(120 oz water)
Weight: 252.4

I just can't seem to get started with eating correctly or exercising. The only thing that I've had good success with is kicking the regular pop. I haven't had a regular pop since January 1st. I still on occasion have a diet pop. I think the best tasting diet pop for me has to be the Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. It might have something to do with me never having tasted the regular version so I really don't have anything to compare it to. It tastes really sweet and doesn't have any weird "diet" aftertaste to it.

Water intake has been pretty bad for the past month or so. I need to work on that, start watching what I eat, and start some type of exercise.

Progress as of today: 5.6 lbs lost so far, only 52.4 lbs to go!

borntocry on 03/07/2007:
You and your pop. I know what you mean - the only diet one I like is Lime Coke, and I've never had the real version of that one either so maybe that's why. Have you tried it?

greengirl on 03/07/2007:
i always find that diet drinks taste sweeter than the ones with all the sugar in!!!

WorkingIt2 on 03/08/2007:
I LOVE diet dr pepper...love it. Congrats on getting off the regular pop!! As far as motivation, sometimes we have to CREATE our own by just jumping in with both feet and doing it! Have a great day =)

Giving up the regular pop a month ago was a good first step and I haven't had any slipups. It's resulted in the loss of 8 lbs in the first month which is a good steady start. The next step is getting back to a water intake of around 120 oz per day again. After that I'll have to tackle the food issues, cutting down on the snacking / candy and late night 4th meals of the day. I suppose after that, working in some exercise would be beneficial also.

I wish I could just successfully change everything at once, but know that if I tried, I'd probably be "failing" at something almost every day, which would probably drive me to just giving up again. At least taking "baby steps" makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something successfully. The main negative about changing things gradually is that the scale also goes down gradually.

I was looking back at prior journal entries over the years and it looks like it's been about 1.5 years since I was last in the 240's. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to weighing 249.

Oh well, baby step changes for now with the hope that one day I'll just wake up and have a desire to get more serious and bump up the pace.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 50 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 02/02/2007:
Hey! I really like your approach to this. No regular pop for a month is great and you have lost 8 pounds just with that??? WOW! The next steps you havae planned sound sensible and effective, too! I can't wait to see what February holds for you! Have a Blessed Day! Holly

borntocry on 02/02/2007:
Oh wow! You are doing so well!

I know what you mean about setting too many goals and then "failing" at one of them every day. I've done that too and it's so demotivating. Now I just try to constantly remind myself that I'm doing the best I can. And as long as that's true, I'm happy!

Can't wait to see your next entry with the "249" on top!

WorkingIt2 on 02/02/2007:
That is fantastic that you've stayed away from the regular pop. A gal at my office has done the same and lost 8lbs in January and I think that is wonderful. Your kidneys, liver and gal bladder probably appreciate it as well lol. Have a great day and enjoy the journey!

greengirl on 02/02/2007:
Sounds like you have a great plan. You are probably wise not to make too many changes at once. good luck with your endeavours :)

Weight: 251.8

I've been pretty much eating whatever I felt like for the past month. The water intake has been pretty bad lately. The only good point that I've stuck with since the 1st of January is not having any regular pop. I've had 5 or 6 cans of diet pop over the past month, but no Mtn. Dew or other regular pop.

I'm thinking of limiting the times I eat to just 3 meals per day with no snacks and nothing after 7pm. I'll still eat pretty much anything I want, but at least I'll cut out the snacking inbetween meals.

Progress as of today: 6.2 lbs lost so far, only 51.8 lbs to go!

WorkingIt2 on 01/28/2007:
Goog job on the no regular pop! That is a huge thing to be proud of!

greengirl on 01/28/2007:
I cut out the eating between meals, and I found it made a tremendous difference. Keep up the good work!!

Moody on 01/28/2007:
I think it's great to make small changes, get a grip on them, then add another small change..They all add up! Good for you for cutting out the regular pop!! Keep it up!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/28/2007:
as long as you're not starving between meals, cutting out snacking may be a good idea for you! it's all about you and what works. Most people feel that snacking helps because it evens out blood sugar levels. however, you have to plan those snacks. also, when snacking, meals and snacks should be no more than 3 hours apart. meaning, if you eat at 8am, you definitely should have something at 10:30 or 11. something, a snack, could be like an egg or cheese stick. sorry if this didn't help.

Day 2 with no pop / cookies / candy / chocolate / chips / etc. Had just over 120 ounces of water intake for the day. There were a few headaches during the day, probably from the lack of caffeine. Off to work....

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 58 lbs to go!

Moody on 01/03/2007:
Great job AGAIN!! You're doing awesome..keep it up!! Hope the headache goes away soon..I hate those caffeine headaches! Take care..

TOADY on 01/03/2007:
You are doing so well. I remember how awful it was to give up the caffeine. It takes time but before you know it you won't even miss it. Good luck!

sasyredneckgirl on 01/03/2007:
how are you getting in all that water??? wish i could :)

Well, I made it through the 1st with no pop....and over 120 ounces of water. I'm sitting here starting on my first bottle of water for the day. No snacks, candy, chips, or chocolate. I ate a couple of full meals and then had a piece of fried chicken before bed.

I figure I'll weigh in every few days or week, if I can wait that long.

I have to get some work done today, but am dragging my feet wishing the holidays could continue just another week...... or 5.

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 58 lbs to go!

tourguidebarbie on 01/02/2007:
good job! My sister stopped drinking pop, did nothing different and ended up losing 10lbs! I wish the holiday was like 51 weeks long... haha. Wouldn't that be nice.... haha *With Holiday pay of course... haha*

It's been years since I've successfully lost weight, which I of course gained back. I don't like the thought of going on another diet. I'm sipping on water bottle #1 right now, just 4 more to go after this one. I usually change over to pop around mid-day, but will try to just keep on with the water.

Progress as of today: 0.8 lbs lost so far, only 63 lbs to go!

WorkingIt on 11/07/2006:
Welcome. And you are already on a 'diet'. A diet isn't something you do, it is a lifestyle. Change your lifestyle diet to something that allows you to burn more calories than you consume, and you will be fine. Water is very important so good luck!

Moody on 11/07/2006:
Water is so important for weight loss!! Keep drinking it!

mattscat3295 on 11/07/2006:
Welcome, you are going to do just fine. This place is filled with such inspiration and support. You will love it here. Hope to read more of your entries. Have a good evening and keep drinking that water.

Scruffy on 11/08/2006:
Don't diet. Just change what and how you eat. Move more.

111 days left in 2006.

I've been without normal pop for the past 3 days now. Water intake hasn't been good and eating habits haven't been good. I'll probably just concentrate on no regular pop for the next few days and try to up my water intake. I'll worry about eating habits after I'm able to start getting the 120 ounces of water in.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 62 lbs to go!

kattygirl on 09/11/2006:
I am terrible at the water thing too. Today I have been mixing Crystal Light with it so that I can get it down. Due to the Crystal I have been able to drink more water today than I normally do.

Great job staying away from the pop!

graindart - Friday Sep 08, 2006
(120 oz water)
Weight: 262.0

There's 114 days left until the end of the year. The past couple of years have not been good for me weight-wise. The rest of my life has been going pretty well, but it's time to try to tackle the weight problem again. I think this about the 10th time this year that I've decided to give it a go.

I'm 32 years old now, father of 2 young children, and need to get my weight and eating habits under control again. I'm guessing that my ideal weight would be somewhere around 175lbs. I doubt I've weighed that since I was in the early years of high school or maybe even middle school. I did lose over 50 lbs in 2003 to get down to 195, but then decided that I could go back to my old ways of eating and drinking boatloads of pop. I ended up gaining it all back over the course of a few months.

I remember it felt really good being under 200 lbs. The 190's are a pretty comfortable weight for me, still a bit of chub, but I could still go swimming without a shirt without feeling too self conscious. Weighing 175 lbs would be about as low as I'd want to go and that would be with a pretty low fat percentage. Although I'd be more than happy to get down into the 190's again. I'm much more interested in being able to be more active with my family than I am about looking good for others. So the first step is to get below 200 again and then I can evaluate what feels comfortable.

The positives for getting under 200 lbs:

1. I felt better. Right now I keep having little problems that I'm guessing have to do with my weight. I've strained something on the side of one of my feet a few times and have to be careful how I walk so as not to aggravate it again. My throat also feels fat and sometimes have problems swallowing food if I'm not careful to overchew it and wash it down with liquid. I'm always tired and lethargic. Anything over a 100 yard jog would probably kill me.

2. I looked better. I'm more concerned about this as it pertains to my family. My wife is a beautiful young woman who eats whatever she wants and still weighs in the low 120's; she's 5'9" tall so she looks great at that weight. I'd like to look healthier for my wife, although she says that it really doesn't matter to her what I weigh. Right now my kids are too young to be embarrassed by their dad's weight, but I know that I don't want to weigh the same when they get to school age.

3. I was able to be more active. I'm pretty much exercise free right now. Concerning exercise, not much interests me. I have no desire to do anything that I used to enjoy; paintball, skiing / snowboarding, etc. I've never enjoying walking / hiking, so that hasn't changed any.

4. Clothes fit better. It was nice to have shirts, pants, shorts, etc just fit right. The best was that I was able to wear dress clothing and they actually looked good. Right now I have to dig through my closet to find the right shirts that are large enough and then try to stretch them in the right places to gain a little more room where extra fat pockets require it.

The NEGATIVES for getting down under 200 lbs:

1. Change. I'll have to change my eating habits, drinking habits (pop), and exercise habits. I really enjoy eating food a lot. It doesn't even matter much what it is, I'll over-eat almost anything.

2. Feeling deprived. I hate feeling deprived. Part of me wants what I want, when I want. I know it's a baby attitude and it doesn't come out of my mouth in that way, but it's an underlying thought that I need to squash.

Now to appease my mathematical mind. If at all possible, I'd like to lose 62 lbs by the end of the year, which is about 3.5 lbs per week. I know that the first 10 or so lbs should go pretty quickly (water weight etc.). I also know that I'm not going to limit myself on Thanksgiving or Christmas, it's not even an option. This is just my best case scenario goal. It would still be great to be down 20-30 lbs by the end of the year to start a New Year's weight loss program with only another 30 or so lbs to lose, instead of the whold 60+.

Will check back tomorrow.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 62 lbs to go!

borntocry on 09/08/2006:
1. Find a diet pop that you like!! Have you tried the Lime Diet Coke? Even my husband thinks that's okay, and he hates diet pop.

2. Isn't losing weight also something that you want? Aren't you depriving yourself by depriving yourself of that? I know what you mean though, because I used to hate the thought of depriving myself too. I didn't want a diet to infringe upon my life. But now that I've lost weight and then gained it back several times, I am willing to make the necessary sacrifices to break this terribly depressing cycle and feel good about myself again!

WorkingIt on 09/08/2006:
Welcome! It will be nice to have the perspective of a man regarding diet and exercise! Diet Dr.Pepper is pretty tasty lol

Good luck and I look forward to cheering you on!

cornucopia982 on 09/09/2006:
It sounds like you have the right approach. If you make even more mini-goals, like weight loss per week that you want to have, you may find yourself being able to be more successful. I know that I work better with small goals rather than one big one that scares me to death! Good luck!

(120 oz water)
Weight: 258.8

50 days to mini vacation.

No pop, not enough water, and food was alright. Day to day I'm doing good at dropping the pop, but I just can't seem to get on track with the food yet. I know the major reason is lack of planning. We just don't plan for meals and I don't have any great desire to start doing so.

I also haven't started any type of aerobic exercise yet.

I'm kind of in the mind set that at least I've cut out one of the things (pop) that causes me to stay at this weight. Maybe just cutting out or correcting one thing at a time will work better this time, instead of trying to change everything at once.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 58.8 lbs to go!

Cutting pop was a huge thing for me too :) It wasn't easy but you can do it in time. NEver stop beleiving in yourself. For cardio start with some walking! Thanks for your persepective :) Much appriciated.
