Greetings, ladies!  Measured my waist this morning and want to know WHY it won't shrink?  I know I can blame some of it on loose skin from weight loss, but that doesn't help. Argghhhh....   I'm doing lots of planks, abs, and other obliques exercises to firm it all up. But it's still 31.5". Aye, I know.  Patience!

Workout:

  • legs/glutes lifts with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges with weights

Super-cleaning a spare bedroom (my home gym)

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  tuna sandwich w/light mayo, celery, onion on wholegrain bread, packet of baked crisps (they go together so well!)  
  • S:  fresh pineapple
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 squares of dark chocolate
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1469

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

Good Morning Annie :) I feel you about the excess skin..I have been at it for a more than a year after reaching my goal weight and it does seem like it takes forever to see a change, but keep on doing your thing my friend..Have a great weekend <3

I feel about my hips like you do about your waist!!! I have not moved off of 43 yet my waist is down almost an inch and a half and so is my chest. Just keep doing your routines but maybe change them up a little. You are so dedicated I know you will ultimately have success! Have a great weekend!

Spot-reducing doesn't work. Yes, the muscles are built, you get stronger and fitter, but when it comes to losing inches/fat/weight you lose all over. At least that's the conventional wisdom. YMMV.

If you think you've done all you can, you might try cutting your fat intake and increasing your starches--oats, potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice. Keep the greens, fruits--cut out the chocolate and milk if they have any fat. For starch-based eating to work, you have to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. Repeat. You cannot let yourself get hungry for very long. No need to count calories.

When I ate starch-based back in Dec '11 (for about a week) I checked my fiber for one day, but not calories. It's a very satisfying way to eat. It's been hard to get back to though.

Just a thought!

Wow, 6" from your waist is impressive! I actually found and bought a bikini today!, and I'm actually not embarrassed to wear it! It came from Walmart believe it or not! I may post a pic later because at 155 I look pretty decent! I found the secret for me is not buying the bottoms too small where it pushes that excess over the material, so I still bought a large bottom. Should I post my Christmas picture which was my heaviest at 170 and this bikini pic or is that too much info?

Hello ladies!  TGIF for those of you who have jobs! I'm feeling more fit and have noticed changes in certain areas of my body, but still have quite a ways to go. Going into Glasgow on Tuesday to take a friend out to lunch whose child is in the hospital there. Going to look for a tankini or one piece swimsuit again. I might just buy the tankini I really liked but that didn't fit around my middle because of the excess skin. Optimism. Also looking for a dress for my niece's wedding the beginning of June. 

Workout at the gym:

  • 30 mins spin bike (changed the workout to make it more intense like the classes - harder resistance, and also did the jumps where you stand a few seconds, then sit a few seconds, stand, sit, stand, sit. Hard!)
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for obliques, triceps
Workout at home (after my lunch is digested):
  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, back sit ups, side dips with dumbbell, lots of abs
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout boost:  2 oatcakes with unsweetened organic pb
  • L:  big salad with spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrot, tomato, celery, radishes, cucumber, a few walnut pieces, fat free vinaigrette,Quorn fillet.  Also had an oatcake with the last of the liver pate, and a yogurt
  • S:  fresh pineapple
  • D:  broccoli/peas/low fat smoked sausage in rice, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 dark chocolate squares
  • Teas and water
TOTAL:  1576

Thanks Annie! I will try upping the calories again. I spent one week sick and I really think that screws things up too! Good Luck with the swim suit shopping again. I like dress shopping I guess because it's not so revealing! Have a fun weekend and enjoy your morning at the gym. I've never been to a gym, but my SIL invited me to try a spin class for free next Saturday. I figured I will try it just to experience a different exercise, but I have no intention of joining!!!

Have a great time in Glasgow visiting with friend. Good luck shopping - it's always fun but can be a challenge. I remember a couple of years ago I was looking for a dress to attend my nephew's wedding for sooooo long and finally found one, by chance, when I had a two hour delay in Lyon, France. I just went into town to look around, to kill time, and voila - I found my perfect dress! I never forget!

Hi ladies!  Started out foggy with thick clouds this morning and was still like that when I went inside for my spin classes at noon. Came out just after 1.30 and it was gorgeous, sunny and warm!   Took some pics with my phone camera while sitting in the car having my sandwich.  

Workouts:

at home - 4 sets of each:

 

  • legs/glutes with ankle weights - 10 reps each of 2 routines
  • squats - 20 reps
  • lunges with weights - 20 reps

2 - 30 minute spin classes with 15 min break in between - much harder than last week so I struggled with the second one but did keep up. So I'll just do one class next week. I'll also work in some of the moves into my gym spin bike routine. More resistance, more fast speeds, and adding the jump where you peddle standing for a few seconds, sit for a few, stand, sit....

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  pbj sandwich on multigrain bread, yogurt
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  chili hot chocolate made with skimmed milk/hot chocolate mix/chocolate syrup/cinnamon/chili powder, also having 2 squares of dark chocolate - mmmm
  • Teas and huge quantities of water

TOTAL: 1566

Hello ladies!  Hope you are all having a fantastic day!  Another lovely sunny day here.  Wish it was warmer though - it'll hit about 60F. Supposed to cool down again.

I'm struggling trying to learn French. I'd be so proud of myself if I learned it on my own as I never bothered to learn a language before, at least not with all the proper grammar rules and not good enough for a conversation. I would be so pleased to go to France next year and be able to deal with trains, restaurants, and hotels totally in French!  

Gym Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps

Home workout:

  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, side dips with dumbbell, lots of abs

Menu:

  • D:  veggie curry (Quorn, aubergine, green beans, mushrooms, etc) & rice, salad, drink

Its gonna be 86 degrees here! Perfect for swimming in the pool, but it isnt open yet!

I learned Spanish in high school from a Chinese woman and a German man. I only took those classes to fulfill the foreign language requirement. French was the only other option and I stayed away because that class was tough!! I regret not taking French though. I mean, Im part French for crying out loud I dont know my ancestor's language! Anyway, good luck on learning it. I think it would be so cool to order food and ask for directions in the native language of the countries you're visiting!

Great exercise plan!

I really should have studied French because of our French heritage. But since Katrina, my Spanish has been used a lot. Most of our work force is Honduran (they were here before the storm, but they are now the main trust of the city's work force) and my Spanish was so rusty!! French spelling always intimidated me whereas Spanish was more phonetic. I'm sure you will be fluent enough to eat well and get directions by the time you go!! Great workout! I only know a smattering of French, and I live in Canada! I'm sort of ashamed of that, since I did have enough french courses to learn how to communicate in French, but at the most all I can do is the introductory sort of stuff (hello, my name is, how are you) and simple words that are easily comparable to English.

HI ladies! We've got lovely sunshine and it might even get all the way to 60F!  

Workout:  Doing the lower body part of my at-home workout.  

  • legs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges with weights

Starting a round of super-cleaning the house a room at a time...all that stuff that doesn't get done during regular cleaning.  Today is kitchen - the most work.  Climbing up on the counters to get the tops of cupboards, washing the windows, cleaning the glass doors on the cupboards, the hood over the cooker, shining up the stainless steel cooker (ugh), cleaning microwave, kettle, toaster, etc etc etc. No one would notice all this but I'll know it's cleaner.  

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  grilled cheese sandwich, yogurt
  • S:  1 clementine
  • D:  veggie curry or veggie chili with rice depending on what my chef decides :-)  salad, drink
  • S:  packet of baked crisps
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1376

Annie, that cleaning is more strenuous than your hardest workout day!! I hate cleaning over the stove because those are the arm muscles that are the weakest and polishing chrome takes real muscle!! Enjoy your clean kitchen! I will start the house pick a part after our trip. I have really neglected my Saturday usual house cleaning because Hubby has been pushing to ride bikes all day, which I am not complaining about, but my house has suffered! But I guess that is repairable after we repair our bodies from all those years of neglect!! have a great day!

  • D:  leek/bean/potato soup, multigrain seeded homemade bread w/light spread, salad (spinach, lettuce, carrot, red cabbage, radishes, celery, tomato, cucumber - 1 tbsp low call vinaigrette), drink
  • S:  packet of baked crisps, diet pepsi (bad, I know)

4 weeks from today we begin our journey to Michigan to see my granddaughters, my niece's wedding, warm/hot weather, a week at a Lake Michigan beach, shopping for cheaper American stuff including new Asics, gym outfits!

Goal is to be 129 lbs before we go. I've changed my weight listing as it's been consistently 132 recently.  

Progress as of today: 34.6 lbs lost so far, only 2.4 lbs to go!

Yes ma'am, I am one proud Momma!!! I can't believe time as gone so quickly. My daughter was so excited to see me yesterday - she kept calling me skinny minny! She said she is even more excited because when she starts to have wedding parties she knows I won't be frantic about what to wear. She really made me feel good about myself. Happy Saturday, ladies!  Sunshine yet again!!   (that's a big deal here!)

I completely ran out of steam yesterday and was unable to do my home exercises after the gym. So I'm doing them today. I do struggle to do them after my 1.5+ hours at the gym, even after lunch and time to rest and digest it. But there doesn't seem to be any other way to do it. Since small muscle work should not be 2 days in a row, don't know what else I can do.  Maybe I can split them up as legs are not small muscles so I could do the squats, lunges, leg lifts with ankle weights on non-gym days, and do planks, dumbbells, pushups, abs and dips with weight on gym day. Hmm...will experiment with this and do a bit of research. 

Workout:

  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, legs/glutes with ankle weights, squats, side dips with weight, lunges with weights, lots of abs
  • housework!

Menu: 

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 eggs, polenta, yogurt
  • S:  pineapple, satsuma
  • D:  leek, bean, and potato soup, multigrain seeded homemade bread with light spread, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 oatcakes

Teas and water

TOTAL:  1392

I like the idea of splitting up the exercises. I know in my BeachBody videos they always say you should just work the muscles to the point of fatigue, that's the goal. Any more than that and you risk injuring yourself. So as long as you're feeling that burn/fatigue in your muscles you are doing it right young lady!

Hiya ladies!  The sun is shining!  Had a great gym workout!  Still have my home exercises to do but feel very tired now.  I suppose I could wait and do them tomorrow as I've got no workouts Sat or Sun except housework and maybe a walk.

Home routine:  either today or tomorrow depending on whether I get the energy today.

  • S:  post workout 2 oatcakes with pb

What is Quorn? I admire your discipline in keeping up with the exercise. I do not like "formal" exercise per se but I do a lot of walking in my development and I also maintain the lawn and shrubs/flower beds so I think that counts for something. Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Hiya ladies! Went to spin class this afternoon. The daytime classes are only 30 mins long and since they only began this week it wasn't extremely tough. I've signed up for next Thursday doing a 12:15 - 12:45 and then the 1:00 - 1:30. Got a big compliment from the instructor at the beginning of class. She was writing out a slip of paper to tell us our target heart rates by age and when I told her I was 60 her eyes got huge and she said 'you're 60?!' like she found it hard to believe.  

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin class

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  1 slice multigrain with pbj, yogurt
  • S:  grapes, 1 satsuma, 1 oatcake

Amazing compliment by your teacher, I'd be all smiles all day long! I got inspired by your hubby's menu and tried cooking my own chickpea/veggies(bell peppers, onions, celery stalks) curry and rice. I used indian curry from a very nice spice market in my town and I really liked it! I usually use thai curry (or japanese), but the indian curry is also good.
