Well, the visit to the bereaved friends has been changed yet again - next week. So I took the brownies and wrapped each one and put them in freezer bags. Also froze the 3 remaining giant chocolate chips cookies. Big test for me, but I'm going to save these as evening treats. Each brownie is about 150 cals (because I added choc chips or walnuts). And these are not large brownies! Had some small chunks left in the bag equal to about 1/2 brownie and ate those so added them to my calories for today.

So I'll pick up some treats at the bakery on the day we visit them.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back raises on half ball

Workout at home: (did a full strength workout yesterday and don't want to do small muscles 2 days in a row, so I'm doing large muscles this afternoon and will do the rest tomorrow. Then on Saturday will do the full strength routines.)

  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master
Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post-workout snack:  2 oatcakes, pb
  • L:  grilled cheese sandwich w/low fat cheddar and soya/linseed bread, benecol spread; honeydew melon; partial brownie
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain yogurt & strawberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1406

Hope you all are doing well and getting/staying healthy & fit!

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Good work on freezing everything, I know how difficult it is to have tempting desserts in the house. Baked goods are a downfall for me, we still have some of my little one's giant birthday cake in the freezer that older son is slowly working on!

hollybelle on 07/18/2012:
Good job freezing the stuff! I bought a brownie mix which I am planning to add too and make when I have a day that I feel I can afford the calories - I love brownies! Continue to think of you and your friends in your mourning. Stay strong and God bless.

V on 07/18/2012:
Good job on freezing the treats..Thanks for your kind comments, yeah it helps that i love working out, not only does it make me feel awesome, I am getting stronger along the way..Consistency is key <3 You do a great job with your workouts as well Annie! have a fabulous day

supercheese on 07/18/2012:
resist the urge to eat the cookies and brownies!! LOL. I'm the same way with fries...:/

legcramps on 07/18/2012:
Great idea to freeze your baking! RYC - I'm going to Hungary in a few weeks with my Mom. It's a pretty special trip for both of us, but mostly for her as she is Hungarian and we have relatives that still live in Hungary. Should be interesting!

selina on 07/18/2012:
those brownies sound so delish! Freezing them is a great idea!

thenewMLE on 07/19/2012:
Out of site, out of mind! And when you do need them, they are already baked!!! I'm glad you know your big muscles from your little muscles - I need another anatomy lesson! Maybe one day I will reach goal weight and learn all that to define my muscles once I can find them!!!!

Really unhappy with myself for indulging so much yesteray. It was nonstop. I knew better than to bake my favourite dessert and should have just planned to pick up something from the bakery on the way to friends' house. Now the visit has been changed to tomorrow so the brownies and the rest of the cookies are sitting in my house. I've put them out of sight and I'm NOT touching them.

The scale is reflecting my indulgences and so are my clothes. So back on track now before it gets totally out of control.

Workout at home:

  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 types + bridge
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master
It's cloudy out and supposed to rain but I'm going to take a chance and go power walking later, probably 4 miles.  Edit: Started walking and got too cold - it's 60F but windy and it gets very cold walking around the point of the peninsula anyway....so I wimped out and walked 1.6 miles.

Menu (which I will stick to!)
  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 oatcakes w/liver pate, plain yogurt w/raspberries
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  2 oatcakes w/1 slice low fat cheddar
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1316

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 07/17/2012:
OH, I've done that, too. Baked something for someone and then been stuck with it. Good move hiding it away! I have been known to ask neighbors to keep it for me!

Good morning! Here's to a successful day for you <3

Umpqua on 07/17/2012:
I know today is going to go better for you but I'm sure it will be good to get those desserts out of the house!

thinkpositive on 07/17/2012:
I know about chocolate chip cookies... can't have one. You've had alot of emotional angst so I can understand about eating. Hope you and your friends are doing okay. Loved the fb weather map!

LeakingLife on 07/17/2012:
I hope the day's been better for you! Too bad we can't take and mix our climates together and come up with a happy medium. Yours and mine would probably equal pretty nice temps:-)

I hear you on the sweets! I make full-fat (butter) oatmeal-date scones, though not in at least a month of sundays now. I've been known to eat the batch and nothing else. They're great with raspberry jam, but the irresistibility of them is right up there with homemade choc-chip cookies for me!

sweetpea1977 on 07/17/2012:
The brownies and cookies are NOT for you. They are for your friends! How dare you even think about eating their food! ;-)

Menu looks great!

moogy on 07/17/2012:
Funny how we play mind games with ourselves over our favourite food. Like putting it out of sight! LOL I just had a look at your 'pig out' day. Good grief woman, I think that you only think you went overboard because you east sooo healthily almost all the time. Your little taste here and there are probably nothing like the treats your used to have! I might be wrong, but I don't think so! Be gentle with yourself annie:)

The day started out well. Healthy breakfast. Went to the gym. Stopped by grocery store..... downhill from there.

I'm going to visit my friends' tomorrow, the ones who just lost a child, and also to see the mum's parents who are flying back home to the US on Weds. Thought I'd be nice and bake them some brownies. Also picked up a batch of giant chocolate chip cookies in case the brownies didn't turn out well. You can guess the rest...    Chocolate is NOT a good thing to have this house. I made one batch of brownies with walnuts and the other with chocolate chips. Had to test both batches, right?

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lift on the half ball

Either this afternoon or tomorrow I'll do my at-home strength training.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout boost:  2 oatcakes & pb
  • L:  2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice low fat cheddar on 2 slices soya/linseed bread; 1 packet of baked crisps
  • S:  1 of the giant cookies, then baked the brownies and did taste testing - batter, brownies.... oink.   Somehow didn't get to the clementines on my menu
  • D:  chickpea curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  umm....think I already had it
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  anybody's guess

Progress as of today: 32.6 lbs lost so far, only 6.4 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 07/16/2012:
That was nice of you to bake for the family. I am sure they will appreciate it. Just remember, it is only a temporary side track. I don't foresee you eating brownie batter everyday, do you? Good work out this morning. I hope your visit can be uplifting. Hugs {{{}}}}}

liza36 on 07/16/2012:
Baking a batch of brownies would have me doing the same thing. In fact, it happened to me on Friday night. So kind of you to take the family the treats.

sweetpea1977 on 07/16/2012:
You've had a very emotional event happen to you right after coming back from a long vacation, so its gonna take time to get yourself in the groove again. You are already on your way, since you've gotten back into your exercise routine. Just keep trucking and cut yourself some slack as you heal from your recent loss. Hugs to you!

Hi ladies. Attended a sad but lovely funeral yesterday for a sweet 9 year old girl. Gorgeous church and music (violins, bagpipes, singing). Met some expat ladies I hadn't seen in many years and I'll confess that before noon we were all drinking pints of beer. Througout the afternoon I had a panini and 3 1/2 pints (UK 20 oz pints) of beer.

Start of a new week and my moping about and indulging is finished.

Very tired this morning as we didn't wake up until 9 due to a shortage of sleep on Friday night. Enjoyed dinner with our friends Friday night, including lots of wine, then had to get up at 5.45 to get to the funeral in the city. So, too much alcohol 2 days in a row plus an emotional day has zapped me.

I've been feeling the need for some outdoor exercise like power walking or riding my bike. Next dry day I'll do one or the other.

If the weather cooperates, hubby and I are taking his elderly uncle to the horse races tomorrow. If not, I'll be at the gym.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  1 egg & 2 slices turkey bacon on 2 slices of soy/linseed bread
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie & tofu curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  plain yogurt with strawberries and sugar
  • Teas & milk

TOTAL:  1306

Progress as of today: 32.6 lbs lost so far, only 6.4 lbs to go!

Thank you for the welcome back to DD. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like it was a beautiful service. As far as the alcohol, hey, sometimes we need to soothe our soul and is just as important as our physical being. Hope you get to get out soon like you want to :)

Tomorrow is funeral. We'll eat lunch out and I'm going to try to stick to 2 pints of beer. It's going to be a drown-your-sorrows type of day. Yes, I know. Doesn't work any better than comfort eating.

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
Baked some oatmeal raisin cookies and didn't manage my at home strength training. I went next door to neighbours to see if they knew about the child dying. The girl's family rented our house from us while we lived in Uganda for 2 years. As usual, I stayed and chatted with them for 2 hours over tea and biscuits.

Going to our friends' for dinner tonight (the ones who have multi-course meals and lots of wine). We usually stay very late at their house when we go to dinner, but we have to get up at 5.45a.m. to get into Glasgow for the 10.00 service.

B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
S:  post workout - 2 oatcakes w/pb
L:  egg and turkey bacon sandwich with soy and linseed bread, plain yogurt mixed with sugar and strawberries and blueberries
S:  had to taste test the cookies, right?  (they are a gift along with a bottle of wine for our host/hostess this evening
D:  ??

Funeral for the wee girl is on Saturday at a large, beautiful church in the centre of Glasgow. It's my granddaughter's 7th birthday that day as well. So a mixed feelings day for sure.  This girl's leukemia/bone marow donor story has been well-publicized.  Her death was in every Scottish newspaper. If anyone is interested, here is just one of the articles:  http://www.cowalcourier.com/tragic-aillidh-is-at-peace-now/

So, I'm still not feeling energetic at all. But I did the gym today. Might do my home routine later this afternoon.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 15 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps

Menu: which may change througout the day

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/cinnamon/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S: post workout:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  low fat cheddar and mayo on whole grain bread, yogurt, oat cake w/pb
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veg chili & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  don't know
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  don't know

So sorry about your friend's daughter. I went through hell with my sister when her daughter had leukemia . I kept a journal & wrote down all of the blood levels and tried to follow all of the procedures, the bone marrow transplants, as if by understanding the science of it, it would help. She did go into remission for about a year but then it was back & it was just devastating to watch her deteriorate. I kept her pictures, the bracelet that she made for me,the pictures of us together and try to remember all of the good stories from before she was sick & including when she was ill. One picture that stays in my mind is when she had lost much of her vision and she was seated at her easel drawing a picture of a rainbow. So for your friend it is still a celebration of her life, as short as it was that's all she had and it's important to remember and to keep those memories alive forever. Thanks for listening, my condolences to you , my friend.

Thank you all so very much for your kind words.  You're the best!

No date set for the funeral but it will be in Glasgow instead of locally. Getting constant updates on Facebook mainly from the mother, the same as she had done throughout the past 8 months of the illness.

Eating what I shouldn't didn't help at all, so today I'm eating as I should.

Workout at home: (these are my plans, anyway)

  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 types + bridge
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk; tea w/milk
  • L:  salad w/Quorn nuggets, 2 oatcakes, pineapple (edit added a soya dk choc pudding - 115 cals)
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  hubby has put out a bowl of soaking kidney beans so I'm guessing it's veggie chili & rice tonight, drink
  • S:  yogurt
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1439

Feeling extremely low with very little energy of any kind. My friend's sweet 9 year old daughter died from complications of (AML) leukemia on Saturday night. She was diagnosed in November. The family is of course devastated. They've had the support of thousands of people since they started a campaign looking for bone marrow donors around the world.

Dragged myself to the gym today and did most of my usual workout. Might do my strength training at home this afternoon, or not. Did too much comfort eating yesterday and also 2 glasses of wine. Didn't give me any comfort. Not thinking about what I'm eating today and stopped by the bakery for doughnut on my way home from the gym.

Husband has gone across the water to visit his uncle in Glasgow all day. I might just take a hot bath and try to get lost in my book.

My rest day.

A very sad day. An expat friend's 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) last November. This sweet, gentle soul who was more worried about the other kids in the cancer ward than herself, sadly lost her battle last night. My friend's parents arrived recently from the US and her in-laws are by their side as well. There are two younger kids ages 3 and 6.

Menu:
  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk; tea w/milk
  • L:  grilled cheese (low fat cheddar), blueberries
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  curry & rice, salad, drink (diluted from juice concentrate)
  • S:  last tub of Greek yogurt I bought and don't like much - too much honey & lemon (prefer the plain and I add the fruit and sugar)
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1337

I hope all of you in the sweltering heat in the US are doing okay and managing to stay cool.

Edit:  ok, so much for a low cal day. Between the sadness of the tragic loss, and watching the Wimbledon final with a Scot playing to win as the first British men's champion in 76 years, I am feeling the need for indulgence.

So far have added a cappuccino with added artificial sugar (Stevia), some chocolate chips melted in, 2 oatcakes with 1 slice of cheddar. Considering  a glass of wine while watching this tennis match.

Had the wine and later had some soya dark choc pudding and dk choc chips. Total for the day is around 1800.  Could have been worse.  Guess I was due for indulgence.

Progress as of today: 32.6 lbs lost so far, only 6.4 lbs to go!

Em17 on 07/08/2012:
So sorry to hear that. Rest day is needed

moogy on 07/08/2012:
Sounds like the sort of day when priorities change. It sounds like she was a wonderful child and is now out of pain and only has joy to deal with. Living with a child (albeit a 37 year old) who battles for life every day is heartbreaking, my daughter is so brave and just tries to get on with life. I hope that the little girl's family are able to grieve but also to remember the joy this little girl gave so many people. Hugs for you today annie:)
