Good Morning Annie :) I love your profile pic in your blog..I am super excited to see pics from your trip to the Castle in August! have you been there before? It looks amazing :) Have a good day

liza36 on 07/02/2012:
I'm glad you had a good time on your trip. Lovely pictures! Sounds like you are getting back in the swing of things.

thenewMLE on 07/02/2012:
Good morning Annie! Your photos are beautiful! The colors and the composition are pleasing. I used to really like to do sunsets too. RYC, my temporary crown I think is sitting too high which is what has my bite off. I am hoping that they can push the crown down further when it is ready. Once they hit the nerves the day they did the temp, it was very painful to bite down as hard as I should have to press it in. But now I am fighting this bad bite for a couple weeks. Have a nice day and good job on your workouts! I need to get back out on my bike, I took the weekend off!

Umpqua on 07/02/2012:
Wonderful photos Annie and I agree about your profile pic on the blog, you look great! You seem to be hard at work with exercise and eating, great job!

Weight: 135.2

Hope you all are staying cool as I know so much of the US is so hot!!  We're low 60's again.

Expected the scale to stay the same this morning, but nope, down again.  My bra is not as tight as it had gotten while I was away! My thighs, especially inner, are sore this morning. Means I did a good workout yesterday with the squats, lunges and ankle weight!

Rest day, sorta.  Doing housework.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 oatcakes, liver pate, 1 slice low fat cheese, plain fat free yogurt w/fresh raspberries & 5 g sugar
  • S:  1 clementine
  • D:  chickpea & veg curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  glass of wine
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1404

Progress as of today: 31.8 lbs lost so far, only 5.2 lbs to go!

Love your photos!! So many of them remind me of where I grew up. So beautiful and lush!! Looks like you just missed the heat back there too!!

I see it's (your camera)a Canon? I may have to cheat on my employer and invest in a Canon. SHHHHHHH!!! Don't tell them!! I'm a huge photograhy fan (my hobby). Why I don't have something with all the bells and whistles is beyond me!! (well....$$$$...that's why!!) Have a great day!!!

nunnermack on 07/01/2012:
BTW..I'm amazed at the color of the lake. Which lake is that? I have cousins up in MI. I think it's about time I visit them. Looks lovely!!!

(Getting back to maintenance weight/fitness)
Weight: 136.0

Down another pound but guessing most of the loss has been fluid. So that means I hadn't gained as much as I thought, although it was still too much. I'm no longer consuming massive quantities of calories so the weight will come off easily just due to that.

Not over jet lag yet but will be fine by next week. Cardio at the gym today and it was a struggle but not nearly as hard as yesterday. The spin programme I use has segments of standing for 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 minutes of standing and pedaling but I just cut some of them short instead of pushing it. Did a partial at home workout yesterday afternoon - 3 sets of dumbbells instead of the usual 4, some planks, abs, squats, lunges, pushups.

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 25 mins elliptical machine

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, strawberries, skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  postworkout:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  grilled cheese on multigrain bread using Benecol; yogurt made with plain fat-free yogurt and fresh strawberries/raspberries/cherries - added 5 g of real sugar (20 cals) as I found it too tart yesterday and don't want to use artificial sugar
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  2 oatcakes
  • Lots of various teas and water

TOTAL:  1385

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 6 lbs to go!

supercheese on 06/29/2012:
Whooo another lb!!

Thanks for your comment. It is so hard to stay on track when on vacation but looks like you're doing real good getting back to where you were. Hope you have a nice day.

thinkpositive on 06/29/2012:
A few more days of jetlag & hopefully you'll be fine. Sounds like you are back in your routine. Enjoyed seeing pictures of your vacation, it looked amazing.

TheMother on 06/29/2012:
Welcome home! Glad your trip was so successful and you had a wonderful time. Now it's back to business. I'm sure you will have that vakay weight off in no time.

thenewMLE on 06/29/2012:
Glad you are getting back to your routine. Fluid seems to be a big problem when traveling. I think our bodies just get so confused with the sleep routine and altitude changes and of course the different style of eating! RYC, my brother, the boss, is on vacation for the last 10 days which made ME the next in charge! So I wish I was retiring, but I'm not! I wish I was changing jobs, but I'm not! I'll just go back doing just my job and not his too! Have a great weekend!

V on 06/29/2012:
Awesome Annie! Congrats and good for you getting back into the swing of things right away..No need to dwell on what ya ate on vacay, you are rocking it out my friend <3 I am so proud of you!

(Getting back to maintenance weight/fitness)
Weight: 137.4

Back to the gym today. Made the mistake of going straight for the spin bike. Had to sit during about half of the 2.5 min standings. I felt like a 90 year old!  Had an abbreviated workout but realize I have to get back slowly.  I was pretty good the first 10 days or so of our holiday - 60 min spin class, twice on treadmill, twice with strength training. We did a LOT of long walks, the 34 mile bike ride, a climb up a steep dune, and canoeing. Otherwise, not nearly enough intense exercise.

No way I could have handled a spin class today so will go back next Thursday.

Workout at gym:

  • 30 mins spin bike
  • 5 mins elliptical
  • 3 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps

At home:

  • will do what I can with my strength training routine this afternoon

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, strawberries, skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 oatcakes, pb
  • L:  1 fried egg on sandwich, fat free plain yogurt mixed with fresh strawberries/raspberries
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  cherries, 1 oatcake

TOTAL:  1329

Progress as of today: 29.6 lbs lost so far, only 7.4 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 06/28/2012:
A belated welcome back to you! I see your vacation weight is already on the way down and I'm sure it will come off quickly for you. Good for you for getting rid of the artificial sweeteners, there are so many great natural alternatives and I think it's better to do those in moderation than go with the chemicals. Have a good one!

sweetpea1977 on 06/28/2012:
Weight is going down already. Yay!

Great job on your foods and exercise!

supercheese on 06/28/2012:
Ah im sure the weight will come right off. Probably salt?

thenewMLE on 06/28/2012:
It's amazing the "muscle memory" is so short!! I know the 10 days we took off to Mexico, my riding stamina was just not the same! take your time and build up that workout again. don't hurt yourself or get discouraged by trying to pick up where you left off. It will come off quick especially with your food choices too. I'm glad you're back! I missed your photos and your entries!

LeakingLife on 06/28/2012:
I'm sure all the "cobwebs" will dust away quickly as you get back into your groove--hope the jet lag is fading away too!

V on 06/28/2012:
Congrats on dropping the number down, we all knew ya would <3 Keep up the fantastic job my friend, you will be back at goal in no time :)

moogy on 06/28/2012:
Unfair how quickly endurance and capability slice in so short a time isn't it? I am sure you will be back up to speed!!! Pun intended!! in no time at all:)I bet you are glad to me home and back to your routine but sad to have left your family:) Life is tough sometimes:(

(Maintenance - healthy eating - toning/strength)
Weight: 138.6

Hiya ladies!!  I'm home!  Thank you all for your comments!  I'll have time now to catch up on what's been happening with my DD pals!

Had an overnight flight on Monday, transferring in Amsterdam. Home by early afternoon. Since the buses are free for us we just take those (not always fun with luggage!) instead of paying a fortune for long term airport parking. No food in the house and neither of us wanting to go shopping. So I baked a loaf in the bread machine so we'd have breakfast and hubby made rice and beans with some onions we'd had left which were still good.

I'm trying to avoid artificially sweetened food/drinks so bought Greek yogurt instead of my usual and didn't buy any low cal hot chocolate mix or the very evil diet soda. I will however keep drinking this concentrated juice mix which has some artificial sugar.

We slept 12 hours last night. It will take us a while to get back into this time zone. Couldn't resist and climbed on the scale when we got up this morning. OMG!  Might be just a tad high due to fluid but probably not by much. The morning we left I was 129.2 and this time it says 138.6. As usual the first few pounds will simply just fall off as I'm not eating the way I had been. Couldn't manage the gym today but will be there tomorrow. Not ready for a spin class but will sign up for next Thursday.

B:  2 pieces of toast with jam

L:  low fat cheese sandwich w/light mayo, Greek yogurt

S:  clementines, cherries

D:  beans and rice (with veggies added when reheated), salad, drink

S:  last packet of artificially sweetened hot chocolate mix

Progress as of today: 28.4 lbs lost so far, only 8.6 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 06/27/2012:
Welcome home!

I agree, that excess weight will fall of quickly just by returning to your normal diet and routine!

V on 06/27/2012:
Hello there Annie! I bet it was nice to sleep in your own bed :)

Weight: 129.2

Hi ladies! Your comments have been appreciated. We arrived back home today and are very tired.  Won't mention recent food and drink (like that yummy, fresh croissant and mocha I had at Amsterdam airport during our layover). Will go grocery shopping tomorrow and think I'll wait on the gym until Thursday. I'll do my home workout tomorrow - weights, strength, etc. Haven't even started unpacking yet. Jetlag going east to home is much worse than the other way around.

I'll get on the scale Thursday as dehydration from flights will likely give me the wrong number tomorrow morning. Aside from my waistline, the biggest indication that I've gained has been my bras fitting much tighter. On previous trips I've lost the holiday weight quite quickly, although I know this is the most holiday weight I've gained (since I reached goal weight in November).

Progress as of today: 37.8 lbs lost so far, only -0.8 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 06/26/2012:
Welcome home!! I hope it doesn't take you too long to recover from the jet lag. I'm glad you were able to take such a lovely vacation and visit with friends and family too. Don't worry about the weight - you know how to handle that!!! Rest up my friend and I look forward to seeing some pics!

Thanks for your comments, ladies!!  Was my pleasure to drink that Oberon's for you V!  What are friends for?!  LOL.

We have been visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes the past week and going back tomorrow.  We head for home on Monday and I'm ready.  Loved the visit and the trips but tired of suitcases.

I can feel that I have gained a lot.  I have not been good when eating out! My trousers are tight, my shorts are tight. I'm busting out of my bras. Will find out the truth when I get on the scale on Wednesday.    I've become more and more indulgent the longer we've been here. We've had BBQ's, ice cream, lots of beer, and lots of eating out - burgers, etc. Will be back on 1300-1400 cals and serious working out when we get back home.

This does NOT feel good!! I'm very uncomfortable and I KNEW better! Not happy!

Progress as of today: 37.8 lbs lost so far, only -0.8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 06/22/2012:
I'm sure you've had an excellent vacation and you'll be back in your routine once you are home. Safe travels home Annie!

sweetpea1977 on 06/22/2012:
Im sure its super-difficult to stay disciplined when you're visiting a whole other country and its even harder when you spending time with friends and family you never see because you live thousands of miles apart.

Dont beat yourself up too much about this. You have been very active during this vacation, so the weight gain could have been a lot worse!

liza36 on 06/22/2012:
It is extremely tough to be completely strict with yourself when you are traveling. You've been active which is great and I'm sure will have helped more than you think. I know you'll get back to 100% dedication when you arrive home, so no worries. Travel safely home.

thinkpositive on 06/22/2012:
You always seem to get back on track after your trips. I'm sure you will this time as well. Have a good trip home.

TheMother on 06/23/2012:
Try to remember that you're on VACATION and you do not eat like that normally. Since you still have a couple of days before you head home, try to slacken off on the goodies and slowly ease yourself into the "old" routine. I think this will make it a little bit easier to get fully back on the bandwagon once you're home.

Thanks for your lovely comments yesterday, ladies!    We are busy busy!

This morning the 3 of us rented a canoe and went down a rather slow moving river, though it did get very windy and made it hard work at times. We were fast and finished in 1.5 hours when it's normally 2 to 2.5 hours. We didn't pull out at all though or stop to swim. The river was very crowded with people in tubes, kayaks and canoes.  So we did burn some calories!

Had porridge with strawberries the last 3 mornings plus a small piece of raisin toast with butter.

Was really hungry after our paddle and had a tuna sandwich, packet of potato chips (not low fat), a fruit popsicle.  Probably BBQ some chicken tonight.  Our rental house is located close to town so we can walk to the shops or the beach in a short time. Haven't been back to the ice cream though!

Hope you all are doing well and getting healthy and fit. Eventually I'll catch up a bit with blogs.

Thanks for the comments on my last post, ladies!

Been busy.  Can't seem to find a chunk of time when I can do my strength training and take a shower afterwards.  So I hope my muscles aren't shriveling up!

Having a good time but we're getting thunderstorms (which I love) and it's interfering with our outdoor activities.  We don't really want to be paddling a canoe when a possible thunderstorm is on the horizon.

Eating healthy but also having treats, more than I should. But I'm not getting too stressed as my clothes still fit.  I'll get rid of what I gained with 2 or 3 weeks after getting home.

We just love the vacation house I rented online (a year ago)!!!  The Lake Michigan beach is gorgeous and so are the sand dunes.  Being a tourist area there are, of course, lots of ice cream shops.  I think I've had my last one though.  I rarely eat ice cream at home even though I love it, so I guess I've overcompensated.  Oh well....I'll burn it off at home.

On the dunes.  Hubby doing some weird pose!
