Happy Sunday ladies!  Gloriously sunny day but too cold to go outside.  Not 100% over my cold, but close. I wasn't able to find enough energy to workout yesterday, so I'll do my tae bo/rope today instead of the rest day I'd planned for today. Also felt extra hungry last night and had an extra cookie, oatcakes and dab of pb...  up to nearly 1700 cals. Not the end of the world.

Dear hubby has gone over to Glasgow to visit his elderly uncle who seems extra 'confused & paranoid'. So I'll use the peace and quiet to work on my French after I've done my workout and had lunch.

Workout:
  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope (completed and now exhausted!)
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  1 oatcake with pb (was trying to make this for tomorrow after the gym and the oatcake broke into many pieces, so I'll just have to eat it today).
  • L:  2 turkey bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice multigrained toast with light spread & all fruit jam
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate & 2 oatmeal raisin cookies
  • Teas and water
TOTAL:  1479

Hope you all are having a good weekend!

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

Sorry to hear about hubby's uncle, I hope you have a nice quiet day.

Congrats on your "arrival to Scotland" anniversary--here's to many more!

moogy on 04/15/2012:
Do you have a Scotish accent? An English friend came over recently and confirmed we sound Australian, although Australians think I sound English????? Not happy about that!!! You do love that veggie curry and I was wondering if you had posted the recipe. I should go and have a look and will when I have finished replying to my lovely diary readers. Have a lovely day Annie:)

thenewmle on 04/15/2012:
Enjoy your quiet time to finish your recuperation. Do you do your jump rope in the house? I've been trying to jump rope, but my ceilings are not high enough. I don't have room in my backyard because of the pool and I hate jumping in the front yard because all the little kids want to come and talk to me! I hope you are 100% tomorrow!!

thinkpositive on 04/16/2012:
Sometimes nice to have the day to do what you want. How's the French coming ? We bought it for Christmas & haven't opened it yet! Although no incentive except that Sat night at the French restaurant all we could say was Bonjour and that was sad. :(

Happy weekend, ladies!  My glutes and abs (especially glutes) are very sore today!!  Woohoo!    Keep up these routines I'll have 6 pack abs and buns of steel!!  Ok, ok.  Got carried away.    But I can aim for those.

Hoped to power walk today but although it's sunny it's very windy and upper 40's (another cold wave is hitting), I doubt it would be a wise thing to do when I'm nearly over this cold.

Probably do a tae bo & jump rope routine.  Haven't done that since before London.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 oatcakes with liver pate or low fat cheddar, yogurt
  • S:  banana
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 oatmeal raisin cookies
  • Teas & water

That's wise - to wait until you are better healed until you hit the cold outdoors! Good job on the exercises!

Happy anniversary on the move - I imagine a beautiful Spring welcomed you to Scotland 12 years ago!

thenewmle on 04/14/2012:
Don't you love the feel of a good workout? Stay in and use your home gym so you don't get to much exposure to the cold right now. Last thing you need is a relapse! It will be in the 80's today with high humidity. Winds are strong too so we are going to use it as resistance for the bike ride. I know the bike ride won't completely clear my mind, but it is a start. I don't understand how someone cannot realize the impact their death places on those around them that love them so much. and why wait until that child was several thousand miles away? just so tragic..

Have a great day!

Hi ladies.  Hope everyone is doing well and getting fit(ter)! Feeling about 90+%. Good gym workout followed by good home workout.  Now I'm exhausted!

Hubby and I should both be fine by the time we do an overnight in the city next Tuesday for our anniversary.

  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus resistance machines
  • cables/pulleys for obliques, biceps, triceps

At home after my lunch was mostly digested:

  • dumbbells
  • 4 types of planks
  • pushups
  • squats
  • lunges with dumbbells
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • lots of abs
  • floor exercises with ankle weights for legs, glutes
  • good stretching

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post gym snack:  fruit/nut bar
  • L:  4 oatcakes with liver pate or low fat cheddar, yogurt, strawberries, 2 clementines
  • S:  post home workout: 1 oatmeal raisin cookie
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 oatmeal raisin cookies
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1614

Just over 6 weeks before our trip to the US. Looking forward to seeing granddaughters and other relatives, niece's wedding, a week at the beach, and some shopping. Modifying my away-from-home strength training routine which I swear I'll do 3 times a week!! There will be lots of other exercise like walking, riding bike, and some canoeing, but nearly 4 weeks w/o strength training is waaaay too long!

Progress as of today: 36.4 lbs lost so far, only 0.6 lbs to go!

selina on 04/13/2012:
So glad to hear you are almost there! Slowly you'll build up the strength, I'm certain! It's always like this after getting sick.... at least it is for me!

Coming back to the usa on vacation sounds a lot of fun! Do plan to go shopping because everything, especially clothes, is so inexpensive! Bring an empty suitcase and plan shopping while here!

Good morning, lovely ladies! Not 100% but better than yesterday.  Couldn't stop munching yesterday. I think I was looking for some energy. Didn't do too much damage as there was no 'forbidden' food in the house. Just went a bit over 1800 calories, so could have been worse.

Finally catching up on housework (other than just keeping up on laundry and the kitchen clean). I made some oatmeal raisin cookies and going to freeze most of them. Need to ration them out and avoid being tempted. The smell is filling the house and driving me nuts! I get to have two for my evening snack with hot chocolate. Not sure how they'll taste as I made them Benecol light instead of real butter like last time.  :-O

A couple of shots from a short walk around our garden yesterday: Bleeding hearts (Dicentra spectabilis) and Kerria japonica.

Menu:
  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  1 multigrained toast w/pbj, yogurt
  • S:  clementine, strawberries
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate & 2 oatmeal/raisin cookies
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1432

Progress as of today: 36.4 lbs lost so far, only 0.6 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 04/12/2012:
I'm glad you're feeling a little better. I can't believe your bleeding heart is flowering already! I love kerria but I think we're just slightly too cold to keep it year-round here. Have a good one!

thenewMLE on 04/12/2012:
Beautiful photos Annie!! I made cookies last night too and the smell was intoxicating!! But I had to give them all away!! No sugar for me. I'm glad you are feeling better. Last time I got sick it was 3 weeks before I felt normal!!!! Have a great day.

I want bleeding hearts in my garden now that I've seen what they look like! I wonder if they would grow here?? Do they attract a lot of bees??

Oh my, I really want some oatmeal raisin cookies!! Despite my love for chocolate, I think I actually prefer them over chocolate chip cookies. Weird huh??

I hope you are feeling 100% by the weekend!

Thanks for your well wishes, ladies!  Really bad yesterday and couldn't seem to get rid of sinus headache but a bit better today. Hoping I wake up tomorrow and feel it's safe to go the gym. Happy Easter, ladies!  Thanks for your well wishes. Thought I was getting slightly better, but nope. My husband has caught my cold. Last night I coughed, blew my nose, or quenched my very dry throat seemingly all night long. When I woke up I groaned and said to my husband 'shoot me now'. His reply was 'hand me a gun'.    The cause of my cough is drainage but I can't take an expectorant cough syrup and they upset my stomach.

<  moaning over >

I'm sure I can manage some abs and glutes exercises. I'm sure the big loss on the scale this week has been mostly fluid although I'm consuming huge quantities.

I had emailed my sister and told her my problems with getting a swimsuit and that I'd buy a bikini. She wrote back and asked if I was just going to let it all hang out like European women.  She said it was unlikely that at my age that my skin around my middle would have enough elasticity to tighten up.  Well, I see this as a challenge! I'm going to tighten up my middle!  My sis, BTW, has never had a weight problem and is older than me. But she doesn't have a firm middle. She wears clothes to hide it, never tucks in a blouse.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  salad w/2 quorn patties, yogurt
  • S:  banana, strawberries
  • D:  soup, toast w/pb, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate
  • Huge quantities of teas and water

TOTAL:  1276

Progress as of today: 36.4 lbs lost so far, only 0.6 lbs to go!

I am so sorry to come back and read that you are still suffering. You must be exhausted. I am particularly empathetic because with four children in the house I know I will catch a cold which will go straight to my chest, this has been the case for the past five years now. I shall be hacking and coughing in a few weeks and will need to borrow the gun!!! Hugs to you (with a face mask on!)

Good morning, ladies!  The scale has been taking a nosedive every day.  I think it's a combination of fluid, muscle , and fat.  I think these decongestants and sinus pills are affecting my appetie as well.

Eating healthy, keeping calories low.  Been resting a lot.  Still no gym.  I can't really workout when I'm coughing and blowing my nose all the time.  This sucks!  I'm a very bad patient.

I'll do some floor exercises today, no reason I can't work on my abs and glutes.

Going to Skype my sis in law in Australia shortly.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  pbj on 2 toast, yogurt
  • S:  strawberries
  • D:  curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  2 clementines
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1303

Progress as of today: 35.8 lbs lost so far, only 1.2 lbs to go!

Good morning, ladies! Still resting as I think it's the best thing to do so I can (hopefully) be 100% next week. I'll need to get on the spin bike a few times before I join the spin class. I want to be able to stand up everytime the instructor says!

Sorry you aren't 100% yet, but all things in good time. You will bounce back. On the spinning and standing - I don't like standing on my regular bike even up hill if I can help it! BUT, I have found out it give the bum a nice break and can ride further....so maybe.....

selina on 04/06/2012:
Good job on taking care of your health first and foremost! I have never done the spinning classes, group lessons are really intimidating to me... will gather some courage in the future...

sweetpea1977 on 04/06/2012:
Good for you on resting up. You'll bounce back quicker if you let your body fight the bugs in your system. :)

Thanks for the comment!

Thanks so much for the link to the monastery! I looked it up and it's near my alma mater, less than 2 hours from my house. I have a friend who practiced Buddhism for years and still practices somewhat informally. She may be interested in visiting with me, even for a day trip. I'd still prefer to go to France though ;)

Good morning, ladies!  Thank for all your support and confidence in me.    The scale dipped back down to 133 this morning but could be all the decongestants I took in the middle of the night. Still not up to hitting the gym. Didn't get a lot of sleep last night as I kept waking up coughing or congested. Got up about 3am and stayed up until after 4.30. Bundled up in my chair, turned on the fireplace, and had some cups of tea with lemon, and did some internet browsing. No energy for a workout today although I hope to have the energy to get on my exercise bike later - better than nothing.

I'm planning to go on a retreat next spring or possibly summer to the Buddhist community in France headed by Thich Nhat Hanh - the monk we went to listen to in London. It's much more expensive than I realized! Looks like flying is the best option. But my husband will join me when the week is over and we'll do a wee tour around France.
