Happy Sunday, ladies!  Sunshine yet again! England is getting tons of rain and some flooding but we're basking in the sun up here in Scotland.

Rest day but did do all the housework I didn't get around to yesterday. I was busy researching which android to upgrade to.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  1 egg, polenta, yogurt, dry multigrain toast
  • S:  banana, clementine
  • D:  leek/potato/bean soup, multigrain seeded homemade bread with light spread, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, soya dark chocolate pudding
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1414

Took some garden pics yesterday:

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

So, so, so , so BEAUTIFUL! Jealous over here.

Beautiful pic Annie! So good to hear that it was indeed a sunny weekend for you <3

Happy Saturday, ladies!  Sunshine yet again!!   (that's a big deal here!)

I completely ran out of steam yesterday and was unable to do my home exercises after the gym. So I'm doing them today. I do struggle to do them after my 1.5+ hours at the gym, even after lunch and time to rest and digest it. But there doesn't seem to be any other way to do it. Since small muscle work should not be 2 days in a row, don't know what else I can do.  Maybe I can split them up as legs are not small muscles so I could do the squats, lunges, leg lifts with ankle weights on non-gym days, and do planks, dumbbells, pushups, abs and dips with weight on gym day. Hmm...will experiment with this and do a bit of research.

Workout:

  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, legs/glutes with ankle weights, squats, side dips with weight, lunges with weights, lots of abs
  • housework!

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 eggs, polenta, yogurt
  • S:  pineapple, satsuma
  • D:  leek, bean, and potato soup, multigrain seeded homemade bread with light spread, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 oatcakes

Teas and water

TOTAL:  1392

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

V on 04/28/2012:
I am sure after tweaking your at home routine so you won't work the same muscle group back to back, you will have lots of steam young lady <3 I hope for more sunshine for the rest of your weekend Annie :)

Umpqua on 04/29/2012:
I like the idea of splitting up the exercises. I know in my BeachBody videos they always say you should just work the muscles to the point of fatigue, that's the goal. Any more than that and you risk injuring yourself. So as long as you're feeling that burn/fatigue in your muscles you are doing it right young lady!

Hiya ladies!  The sun is shining!  Had a great gym workout!  Still have my home exercises to do but feel very tired now.  I suppose I could wait and do them tomorrow as I've got no workouts Sat or Sun except housework and maybe a walk.

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for obliques, biceps, triceps

Home routine:  either today or tomorrow depending on whether I get the energy today.

  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, legs/glutes with ankle weights, squats, side dips with weight, lunges with weights, lots of abs
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout 2 oatcakes with pb
  • L:  2 eggs, polenta, yogurt
  • S:  pineapple, grapes
  • D:  Quorn fillet, boiled potatoes with light spread, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, dried apricots
  • Teas and water

What is Quorn? I admire your discipline in keeping up with the exercise. I do not like "formal" exercise per se but I do a lot of walking in my development and I also maintain the lawn and shrubs/flower beds so I think that counts for something. Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Hiya ladies! Went to spin class this afternoon. The daytime classes are only 30 mins long and since they only began this week it wasn't extremely tough. I've signed up for next Thursday doing a 12:15 - 12:45 and then the 1:00 - 1:30. Got a big compliment from the instructor at the beginning of class. She was writing out a slip of paper to tell us our target heart rates by age and when I told her I was 60 her eyes got huge and she said 'you're 60?!' like she found it hard to believe.

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin class

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  1 slice multigrain with pbj, yogurt
  • S:  grapes, 1 satsuma, 1 oatcake
  • D:  chickpea/aubergine curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  dried apricots, hot chocolate
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1319

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 04/26/2012:
What an awesome compliment!! And good going on spin class, sounds like fun :)

legcramps on 04/26/2012:
Awesome! Way to rock the spin class!

selina on 04/26/2012:
Amazing compliment by your teacher, I'd be all smiles all day long! I got inspired by your hubby's menu and tried cooking my own chickpea/veggies(bell peppers, onions, celery stalks) curry and rice. I used indian curry from a very nice spice market in my town and I really liked it! I usually use thai curry (or japanese), but the indian curry is also good.

selina on 04/26/2012:
I did not eat the rice though I think it's the best part ;)

moogy on 04/26/2012:
Oh nice compliment! I bet you enjoyed that one:) Like I said you must be the fittest grannie in Scotland:) Just look at that graph and those progress numbers .8 to go to goal. How exciting:)

Hello ladies!  Back from Inverness!  Saw my hubby's first grandchild, an adorable wee boy named Mason.  So that's 3 grandkids between us now.    As for eating, well...... I won't mention what I ate and drank.

About to leave for the gym and this is my plan for today:

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for obliques, biceps, triceps
  • back sit ups

 At home:

  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, legs/glutes with ankle weights, squats, side dips with weight, lunges with weights, abs

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  fruit and nut bar
  • L:  multigrain toast with pbj, yogurt
  • S:  banana
  • D:  chickpea & aubergine curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate
  • Teas and milk

TOTAL:  1368

Edit:  at the gym today I discovered that the spinning classes have begun. All the daytime classes are only 30 minutes though. I was hoping for at least 45 but those are all around dinner-time and I'm not going all the way into town at that time.  Anyway, signed up for a class tomorrow.

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 04/25/2012:
Congratulations on the addition of Mason to your family. Will they let you do two spinning classes? But on second thought - they probably don't offer them back to back. Maybe if they are popular they will add time to the classes. I want to try spinning again. I tried it a long time ago and didn't like it, although you know I love to ride bike. I think it was because the instructor yelled the whole time. I didn't like that - very demotivating!

selina on 04/25/2012:
Congratulations on the new baby, yay! I hear that being a grandma is amazing!

Great to see that you are back and doing your exercises and all! I love that curry and basmati rice that your hubby cooks for you, yum!

I'm sure you'll be back in your groove soon--have a good evening!

Happy Saturday, lovely ladies!

I'm going to have to stop baking!!!  I could not keep my hands out of those yummy granola bars yesterday! My husband really liked them as well and kept dipping his hand into the container as well. This is quite a compliment as he doesn't behave that way.  So I've put the box back in the laundry room on a high shelf as having it them in plain view in the kitchen was a disaster.

Workout:

Got lots of little re-organizing projects to do around the house, so will be busy with that. Might get on my exercise bike later though. I'd like to power walk but the clouds outside are quite dark.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 slices turkey bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice multigrain toast with dab of light spread, yogurt
  • S:  strawberries, 1 clementine
  • D:  probably aubergine (eggplant) curry with chickpeas and veggies, basmatic rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 2 oatcakes
  • Teast & water

TOTAL:  1308 and no cheating!!

Goals:  keep building those muscles!  Get down to 129 by May 28th for our trip.  This morning I was 132.

Have a great weekend!!

Edit:  tomorrow morning going to see hubby's grandson who was born late last night.  So we'll be gone till Wednesday night.

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 04/21/2012:
I was just commenting to thenewmle that I don't see how she can bake cookies for the kids and not have ANY. I just don't make stuff like that because I have no descression when it comes to eating them. I don't know how to "pace myself". Good idea putting them out of sight. I can do that sometimes, but then I hear them "calling my name" from the box in the dining room chest! Have a good day!

Umpqua on 04/21/2012:
I want to try that granola bar recipe, looks great! For whatever reason, I'm usually able to label certain foods for the boys and stay away from them. Of course I avoid baking things that are truly tempting to me...we'll see how this works out moving forward since the boys' appetites seem to be growing and growing. I shudder to think what our grocery bill will look like in a few years!

V on 04/21/2012:
Congrats on the newest addition to your family :) I hope your day went well Annie <3

TinaAnn on 04/21/2012:
Congratulations on the new baby!

thinkpositive on 04/22/2012:
I know what you are saying about putting food out of sight! It usually works for me also. But you are brave to bake. Babies- i love them. There is a baby here that I have to visit every week just to have my baby "fix"!

thenewmle on 04/22/2012:
I have been baking for the neighborhood kids and my biggest temptation is DURING the process. I love raw dough and hot cookies right off the pan. But I stayed focused and gave the cookies to the kids so they would be out of the house. The second batch they ate some that night, but left the rest. I put them in a container and brought them to my niece for her birthday. As rewarding as the cookies used to be, now the weight loss is more rewarding so I am moving away from the dreaded temptation but I am really excited that I can still bake without hampering my food choices. As much as I like the taste of my sugar treats, I get just as much satisfaction when everyone else eats them and raves about them! So I didn't want to lose the ability to bake for others. Congrats on the new grandbaby!!!

Maria7 on 04/23/2012:
I know what you mean about the baking. I love to bake cakes but don't usually unless Hubby and I are going to take them somewhere, like to a church supper, so I don't be tempted to eat most of them, haha! :-)

selina on 04/23/2012:
Those granola bars sound amazing! Yum! Good job hiding them! It's the same in this house, If I keep my food on the counter, the whole family will eat them until it's all gone!

Hiya ladies!  Made some granola bars yesterday and they are good, but not low cal.  Thought they'd be good post workout snacks after the gym.  I'll post the recipe in the forum but it's in metric and really not sure how to convert it.

  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulleys for obliques, biceps, triceps
  • back sit ups

At home:

  • dumbbells, planks, push ups, legs/glutes with ankle weights, squats, side dips with weight, lunges with weights, abs

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  cinnamon berry granola bar
  • L:  4 oatcakes/liver pate/low fat cheddar, yogurt
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  leftover chicken, potatoes, veg, salad, drink
  • S:  1 oatmeal raisin cookie
  • Teas and water

Hi ladies!  Thanks for your comments on our anniversary and trip!  We had a very nice time.  Spent yesterday in Stirling and visited the castle and the newly refurbished royal palace.  Took some pics but I'm not done sorting them yet.  Here's a building I liked in the town centre and a royal potty chair.  LOL.

I've slipped back into the bad attitude of thinking a trip away from home gives me a license to pig out. I've got to change that before the upcoming trip to MIchigan for almost an entire month!  Decreasing the calories for at least a few weeks. Would be good to have a 'credit' of a couple of pounds before we leave the end of May.

Husband bought a tagine which is like a clay slow-cooker. They had them in Morocco and they made everything tender and tasty. So he's making us some chicken breast with potatoes, veg in a sauce tonight.

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike - lots of standing
  • 25 mins elliptical

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  liver pate, 1 slice low fat cheddar, 4 oatcakes, yogurt
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  chicken breast/potatoes/veg in a sauce, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, 1 oatmeal raisin cookie
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1308

Edit:  still had quite a bit of the chocolate covered coffee beans left that hub bought me for anniversary.  He said he wouldn't help me eat anymore so I fiinished them off.    I'll be bouncing up and down soon.  Well, I'll be good from now on and, after all, I did burn 600 cals at the gym today.

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 04/19/2012:
That is a pretty commode! :) Thanks again for your help with Flat Stanley, I'm glad he's safely on his way home now. And if I traveled as much as you do I would be in trouble because I also like to let loose on my trips. So good for you for planning ahead and being mindful of that. As the boys get older we plan to travel more and more and I know I'll be facing the same challenges!

  • dumbells, planks, push ups, squats, lunges with weights, side dip with dumbbell, abs, ankle weight routines, etc.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  Post workout - fruit/nut bar, 2 oatcakes with pb

Moogy mentioned that we must really like veggie curry, and it does look like we eat the same thing nearly every night.  Hub is the cook and doesn't use a recipe.  The ingredients he uses varies and does/can include:  onion, peppers, aubergines (eggplant), courgettes (zucchini), chickpeas, marrowfat peas, other beans or lentils, green beans, potatoes, sweet potato, cauliflower, broccoli, Quorn mince or pieces, tomatoes, mushrooms, various spices and seasonings, garlic, etc etc.

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

Happy early Anniversary!!! And I am glad you are feeling better. My hubby got sick Saturday night and had to fly out this morning and there is nothing worse than traveling when you can't be sure you can be away from the bathroom for more than 25 minutes!!! Happy Anniversary!

grannyannie - Sunday Apr 15, 2012
(Maintenance - healthy eating - toning/strength)
Weight: 130.8

Happy Sunday ladies!  Gloriously sunny day but too cold to go outside.  Not 100% over my cold, but close. I wasn't able to find enough energy to workout yesterday, so I'll do my tae bo/rope today instead of the rest day I'd planned for today. Also felt extra hungry last night and had an extra cookie, oatcakes and dab of pb...  up to nearly 1700 cals. Not the end of the world.

Dear hubby has gone over to Glasgow to visit his elderly uncle who seems extra 'confused & paranoid'. So I'll use the peace and quiet to work on my French after I've done my workout and had lunch.

Workout:
  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope (completed and now exhausted!)
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  1 oatcake with pb (was trying to make this for tomorrow after the gym and the oatcake broke into many pieces, so I'll just have to eat it today).
  • L:  2 turkey bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice multigrained toast with light spread & all fruit jam
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate & 2 oatmeal raisin cookies
  • Teas and water
TOTAL:  1479

Hope you all are having a good weekend!

Progress as of today: 36.2 lbs lost so far, only 0.8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 04/15/2012:

Do you have a Scotish accent? An English friend came over recently and confirmed we sound Australian, although Australians think I sound English????? Not happy about that!!! You do love that veggie curry and I was wondering if you had posted the recipe. I should go and have a look and will when I have finished replying to my lovely diary readers. Have a lovely day Annie:)

thenewmle on 04/15/2012:
Enjoy your quiet time to finish your recuperation. Do you do your jump rope in the house? I've been trying to jump rope, but my ceilings are not high enough. I don't have room in my backyard because of the pool and I hate jumping in the front yard because all the little kids want to come and talk to me! I hope you are 100% tomorrow!!
