Good morning, ladies!  Went grocery shopping this morning which is my workout time, so I'll do a long exercise bike this afternoon.  No junk food, not even 98 cal baked crisps!  No guests for dinner in the near future.  Found some lower calorie yoghurts than what I've been buying.

I've been trying to make up for my binge by cutting my calories to below 1200 but it's just too low.  I managed it day before yesterday but I'll just continue with my usual 1200-1300.

Menu for today:
  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, 5g sugar, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 294
  • L:  2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice low fat cheese, 2 bread, low fat cottage cheese - 276
  • S:  strawberries & grapes - 89
  • D:  chicken breast in a curry sauce, rice, salad - 460
  • S:  Melba toast, low fat yoghurt - 123
TOTAL:  1240

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

suziemom on 09/22/2011:
Looks I a really Yummy food plan.

getmebackto150 on 09/22/2011:
Honestly, as long as you stay at 1200, your binge won't even affect your long term progress... Its never a good idea to go below 1200 as that puts the body in "starvation" mode:( I'm TOTALLY jealous of your quorn prices... I would eat it SO SO much more often if it were that cheap... I think its a European based company, so maybe that is why its cheaper there??? Have a good one:)

getmebackto150 on 09/22/2011:
Wow, you guys defnitely have WAAAY more products than us... I'm SUPER jealous, but I guess I should be happy we have some, as a vegetarian, its a GODSEND... I read 1 in 5 households in the UK, thats crazy, here, its probably 1 in 1000 if not less, but its SO SO much better than so many of the other meat alternatives out there!

biscottibody59 on 09/22/2011:
Great on the food and exercise (yesterday too)--keep up the good work!

hollybelle on 09/22/2011:
I think it's osteoarthritis that is bothering my knees. You are right, though - strengthening the muscles around the knees does help. I just have trouble walking very far, very fast - they ache. I have been active all my life. The pain in the knees showed up last October after I did 5 Zumba classes in a row (Over 5 days that is) they haven't been the same since. They swelled up pretty big and I had to rest them completely. I try not to take ibuprophen if I don't have to. I love biking and the elliptical trainer doesn't seem to bother them much.

Umpqua on 09/22/2011:
You're menu looks stellar! I have a rough time going below 1200 calories, that sounds perfect to me. Have a good one!

V on 09/22/2011:
I think that you are doing a fabulous job with the count :) You too are inspiring my friend!! :)

Good morning ladies!  No sweets left in the house except for the vanilla ice cream which was bought for our guests last weekend.  And I'm not a fan of vanilla - too boring on its own.

Workout:

  • 45 mins tae bo and jump rope
  • weights, abs, leg exercises with ankle weights
  • 30 mins exercise bike

(I've really slacked off with stretching and need to get back to it.  My calves are especially tight.)

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, 5g sugar, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 294
  • L:  2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice low fat cheese, 2 bread, fat free yoghurt - 276
  • S:  medium banana - 85
  • D:  veggie chili, rice, salad - 460
  • S:  low fat hot chocolate with splash of milk, melba toast (I was hungry!) - 123

Oops, forgot the total!  TOTAL:  1258

Lots of black tea with lemon, herbal teas

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

ROCK ON! Calories and exercise look right on track. It must feel good!

moogy on 09/21/2011:
Nice menu and calories and exercise. Looking good grannyannie:) Good to only have acceptable foods in the house, I only have 85% dark choc and even if I wanted to eat more one square is all I can manage, it is so bitter, but stops the urge for snacks and chocolate. Magical stuff!!

getmebackto150 on 09/21/2011:
I've heard that the UK has a lot more variety... Ours is getting a bit better, but you mostly have to go to a specialty foods store, the regular supermarkets have only a couple things... Its REALLY expensive here though... About $6.00 per package... How much does Quorn cost there? I really LOVE it:)

V on 09/21/2011:
I am so proud of you for getting all the offending/tempting items out!! Bravo :)

suziemom on 09/21/2011:

Good morning, ladies!

Feeling incredibly guilty!  We rarely have junk food in the house (unless we have guests).  However, a friend in the US asked if someone would ship her some British biscuits (cookies) and I volunteered.  So I bought her 8 packets of the 3 types she wanted as well as a big bag of individual packets of Cadbury chocolate buttons for her daughter.  When I took them to the post office they said it would cost £36!  So I took out 5 packets and shipped her 3 which cost nearly £10.  This meant there were 5 packets of biscuits and the chocolate buttons in my house!  A dangerous thing!

I've been doing well just having an occasional packet of the 75 calorie chocolate buttons as part of my evening treat.  Also keep the 98 calories baked crisps in individual packets for an afternoon or evening treat as part of my daily calorie count.

Yesterday I had a strong desire for chocolate in the afternoon and ate 2 packets of the buttons.  After dinner I had a strong desire for more of them.  Since my husband was visiting a relative in the city and wouldn't be back until later there was no one to raise an eyebrow and ask me if I really wanted to sabotage my hard fought for weight loss.    So I had 2 more packets of buttons, 2 Tunnocks chocolate wafers, and the last pack of baked crisps!!  I totalled up the damage and was about 750 calories over my daily allowance.  So I feel the need to make up for it by having about 1150 cals instead of close to 1300 for the next few days.  The rest of the Tunnocks and other biscuits are in the rubbish bin.

On a good note, yesterday I tried on another pair of trousers that have been too small for me for years and they fit!

Workout:

  • 45 mins tae bo and jump rope
  • exercise bike - at least an hour, maybe more

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 274
  • L:  1 egg and 2 slices turkey bacon on 2 slices bread; fat free yoghurt - 294
  • S:  clementine, cherries - 103
  • D:  veggie chili, rice, salad, iced tea - 460
  • S:  none, nada, zip

TOTAL:  1131

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 09/20/2011:
Oh, dear!

V on 09/20/2011:
I am so sorry for the cookie and button fiasco..If the temptation gets to be a bit much give some of them to a friend/neighbor.. What are buttons anyways??

V on 09/20/2011:
Thank you!! I am just happy I found a workout that I truly enjoy :) It does make a world of difference!!

~WI~ on 09/20/2011:
YEP..that is exactly what happens when I have trigger foods in the house LOL I think it is kind of good to know what we can't be around, it's like having another piece of the puzzle and the picture is clearer. Have a great day!

getmebackto150 on 09/20/2011:
Junk food in the house is definitely a recipe for disaster... I'm the same way:( Moving on and doing well today and forward is definitley the best thing... If you make it a one time slip it will not affect your progress... Maybe you have a friend close by you can give the rest to? I know after I've had a binge like that I need to get the culprit out of the house ASAP!!! Have a great day:)

liza36 on 09/20/2011:
It's good the rest is in the trash. That's what I would have to do too. At least you kept track, and continued to exercise, and will be moderate for a few days in your calories. Great way to get back on track.

biscottibody59 on 09/20/2011:
These things happen--hope you've gotten back in the groove today!

thinkpositive on 09/20/2011:
I know what it's like. The other night my husband offered me a ginger cookie to go with a cup of decaf coffee & I it turned out that he had the cookies hidden away & that was the last of them. He knows me well!

moogy on 09/20/2011:
We can only get 200g pkts of chocolate buttons. So not a good idea to buy them as I would eat them all in one sitting. Mind you even if they where in small pks I would probably eat them all as well. Can't resist chocolate!! I wonder why buttons are so delicious, maybe the way they just fit between the tongue and the roof of one's mouth!! LOL Well done with throwing out the biscuits, better in the bin than on your thighs!!:)

Good day, ladies!

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” ~Maya Angelou

Workout:
  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope
  • weights, abs, floor exercises with ankle weights
  • 30 mins exercise bike
Menu:
  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, skimmed milk, tea with milk, V8 - 304
  • L:  1 egg, 2 slices turkey bacon on 2 slices bread, fat free yoghurt - 294
  • S:  clementine, strawberries & cherries - 90
  • D:  veggie curry, rice, salad, drink - 476
  • S:  packet of baked crisps - 98
TOTAL:  1262

OMG!  I was overcome with a strong desire for chocolate.  So I had two wee packets of Cadbury Buttons, 75 cals each.

New Total for today:  1396!

My first cuppa tea in the morning has skimmed milk (the way I like it best), and the rest of the day is black tea with lemon and in the evenings herbal teas like chamomile, fennel & nettle, green tea.

I've cut way down on using Splenda and anything with artificial sweeterners in it.  Recently cut out diet sodas as they make me hugely bloated and apparently artificial sweeteners do the same.  My fat free yoghurt has aspartame as the last ingredient listed, and I'm not cutting that out.  My hot chocolate mix has it so have cut down on that.  My orange/mango diluting drink has aspartame so I'm cutting that out.

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

KayBee on 09/19/2011:
Do you know why people started to put milk in the tea? :) Because in those times porcelain cups were really thin, and broke on contact with the hot tea. So they poured milk first, and then the tea... ;-)

KayBee on 09/19/2011:
How about Stevia? Or Xylitol?

hollybelle on 09/19/2011:
I use stevia, going to cut back on diet coke beginning today!

getmebackto150 on 09/19/2011:
agghhhh I hate the chocolate cravings!!!!! Hope you have a great day!!

V on 09/19/2011:
Love Maya!! You are doing such a wonderful job Annie :)

KayBee on 09/19/2011:
stevia is not artificial, it's a plant, 100% natural. :)

Umpqua on 09/19/2011:
I know what you mean about the chocolate cravings. You are doing great, keep up the excellent work!

biscottibody59 on 09/19/2011:
:-) What a trip it would've been to make your dinner party:-)

Good for you cutting back the sweeteners. (I'll try to update my experience with aspartame in your forum entry at some point.)

Enjoy your week!

liza36 on 09/19/2011:
Cutting back on the artificial sweetners is a good idea. Good luck with that.

nomoreforme on 09/19/2011:
Have you tried Pukka herbal teas? I love them, have 8 flavours on the go at the moment. They sell them in Tesco and Sainsburys.

Hello ladies!  Hope everyone is planning a good weekend.

Well, my headache went away after I ate my lunch yesterday.  I think the coffee made it worse.  I never drink black coffee and haven't for years.  I drink an occasional cappuccino or mocha.

This morning my schedule is off again.  Went grocery shopping as we are having guests for dinner tomorrow night.  Yes, I will go overboard on the calories tomrorow night but I'll just make up for it after.

Now I need to start cleaning house and getting in a workout.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 274
  • L:  chicken/low fat cheese/light mayo sandwich, packet of baked crisps, clementine - 364

Believe you can.  Believe you can't.  Either way, you're right.  ~Henry Ford

Workout:  Hmmm.....  Short bike ride.

This morning hub and I went to a friend's house (B & B) so I could take photos for their website. Even though I said I preferred tea I was given strong black coffee.  Had a big mug and a half and I was wired.   My husband and our friend are both very talkative and I couldn't get hub to stop talking so we could leave.  I started to get a 'hungry headache' (low blood sugar) about 1.30pm.  By the time we got home so I could have my lunch I was starving!  So in addition to my sandwich I had the packet of baked crisps I was going to have for my evening snack, also had a packet of Cadbury chocolate buttons, aTunnocks dark chocolate wafer, and milk in my tea which I've only been having in my first tea of the day.    Not going to have the two clementines or yoghurt that were on  my menu for today.

Menu:

  • B:  bran flakes, banana, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 287
  • L:  chicken/low fat cheese/light mayo/lettuce sandwich; tea with milk, packet of baked crisps, Tunnocks dark chocolate wafer, Cadbury buttons (oink oink) - 594!
  • D:  veggie curry, basmati rice, salad, drink - 476

TOTAL:  1357 cals

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!
