Good day, girls!  About to head into Glasgow where we'll stay the night. I'm excited about the trip to London, even the train! Unfortunately we're booked on the west trainline instead of the east coast which gives some stunning views of beaches and the North Sea. But it'll be good anyway.

Going to try hard to not overindulge!

Have an amazing day everybody!

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Wow, have a nice trip Annie :)

Wow, I just saw your photo of the moon and venus, AMAZING! How in the world you can do that - it looks almost unreal! I LOVE it!

Have a great day in Glasgow!

Have fun and be careful! And you know if you over-indulge it will just be temporary!!! Look at your recovery from last month so HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

moogy on 03/28/2012:
Maybe you get to go through Birmingham, what a treat for you!! (sarcasm there) I hope you enjoy the train ride. I remember fondly when I was a little girl travelling on the train from Brum to Essex to visit cousins lying on the seat and listening to the constant bump of the train over the tracks. Nice memories:) I trust that you will not overinduldge, you have already been tested on visit away from home and come out smiling the other side:)

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 03/27/2012:
Beautiful pic!! We saw the moon and Venus also, but it was directly overhead! Did you do a timelapse on a tripod? My favorite used to be photographing lightening. I call it heat lightening but my hubby says there is no such thing. It's that lighting that happens when it's seriously hot and there is no rain and no thunder. Sometimes you can get bolts that travel sideways and shatter into many more. I hope you have another successful trip because I really like looking at your photos - I feel like I got to take a vacation!!

Umpqua on 03/27/2012:
That is just stunning! We've had some amazing skies here recently but I have no idea how to photograph them. I know you will enjoy your trip to Glasgow - I can't wait to get there some day. I've heard so many great things about that city so I love hearing about your travels :)

Hi ladies! Thanks for yesterday's comments.  We had a very nice time at our friends' house last night. Dinner was homemade tomato and onion bread, homemade tomato soup, a really tender roast beef, roast potatoes, salad, homemade apple pie topped in hot custard, and lots and lots of wine. Too much wine.

Didn't sleep well last night as I kept waking up with a mouth dry as the Sahara Desert. Went to the gym an hour later than intended.

Workout:

  • 35 mins on the spin bike - intense
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus machines
  • cable/pulleys for biceps, triceps, obliques
  • lots of abs and back exercises (including plank)
  • did 10 squats during the rest time after each set of triceps on the pulley

Home:

  • 4 sets of 10 dumbbells - 5 routines
  • leg lifts with ankle weights
  • glute lifts with ankle weights

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 fruit/nut bars
  • L:  2 eggs, 2 veggie sausages, yogurt
  • S:  apple, clementine
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  oatcakes & pb, hot chocolate
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1672

GOALS:  waistline 30" or less, smaller bra cup size, a firm, toned and strong body!!

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 03/26/2012:
I like your goals Annie!! I've been using the ankle weights just for my leg lift exercises and now I am ordering a 2,3,5 lb pair hand set so I can add a little variety to my still short work out. Last Friday when we walked, I put the ankle weights on my wrist and raised my arms over my head and slowly lowered while I walked. After a mile, I had to give up the weights but I think I am seeing some toning in my arms. I was afraid of "cotton mouth" last night because of all the sodium, so all day long I drank water with lemon and mint and I must have done pretty good, because I only woke up twice for water last night and my rings aren't stuck! That's one of the side effects of too much crawfish! Have a great week!

Umpqua on 03/26/2012:
Great goals! That sounds like an incredible meal last night, I'm glad you enjoyed it, wine and all!

selina on 03/26/2012:
What a wonderfully delicious dinner at your friend's! Have a great day! 30" waistline sounds so amazing! I have to go and measure mine, haha. I have no idea what it is!

Good morning, ladies!  It's a rest day for me and my thighs need it! The sun is breaking through the fog so will go for a wee stroll with my camera.

Will be talking to my oldest granddaughter on Skype later.  The wee one doesn't say a lot yet.

Menu:

B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk (292 cals)
L:  liver pate on oatcakes, yogurt (334 cals)
S:  clementine, apple (115 cals)
D:  we are invited to friends' house for dinner.  (many cals)

TOTAL:  your guess is as good as mine!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Sounds like you are having a great day! Enjoy dinner with your friends!

Your 1st class train trip reminds me of ours, from Paris to London through the channel underground, two years ago. The whole train was first class: foods and wine were included in the ticket price! Unforgettable trip!

I don't see my son's two boys much even though they are only two hours away, they are too busy, I cant drive that far etc. However I managed to get son to send me photo's and a video over the weekend. Good morning, ladies!  After yesterday's candy bar and massive bread consumption, I'm much lower cals today.

We're spending the night in Glasgow Weds. and Thursday morning we're catching the train to London and staying there till Monday. This means eating out and drinking beer - in moderation!. Will be sure I do a strength training workout at least twice while we are there and I've instructed hubby to nag me which I should have done for the Morocco trip. We'll do a LOT of walking in London.

We're going first class on the train (not as posh as it sounds) which means complimentary tea/coffee, sandwiches, snacks.  I will want crisps (potato chips) but they'll be the high fat ones so I'm packing some of my baked crisps. Also packing some fruit/nut bars.

We'll have wifi on the train, in the hotel, and via mobile so I won't be out of touch.

Workout:

Plan to power walk 5 miles if the weather cooperates.  If not, tae bo/rope, bike. Perfect day for a walk!  Did 5 miles. My thighs are yelling at me though as I did serious thigh work yesterday.  Guess I'll have a rest day tomorrow.

Menu:
  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  liver pate on oatcakes, yogurt, Alpen fruit bar
  • S:  fresh pineapple, clementine
  • D:  veggie & chickpea curry, salad, drink
  • S:  glass of red wine, packet of baked crisps
  • Teas and water
TOTAL:  1360 (that's the plan anyway!)

Enjoy your weekend, ladies!

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Greetings, ladies!  Did a solid 2 hour workout at the gym this morning!  As I left the gym I realized I hadn't packed my post-workout snack (almonds or fruit/nut bar) and I was needing to be revived.  I went to the grocery store for a few things and for some reason decided that what I needed was sugar/chocolate/nuts and I stupidly bought a Snickers bar.    I should have just bought some more almonds.  I hadn't had a Snickers in years and it really didn't taste great, but I was hungry.  Guess I'm used to having quality chocolate.  So I've had to juggle my calories to make up for nearly 300 calories of rubbish.

I LOVE spicy hot chocolate and bought a mix in Brugge a few years ago.  Been craving some lately so bought a plain hot chocolate mix and some chili powder, so I'll try making some tonight.

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike - intense
  • 15 mins elliptical
  • Cable/pulleys for obliques, biceps, triceps
  • squats
  • lots of ab and back work
  • 4 sets of 10 on each of the 6 nautilus
  • good stretching
  • Will do my dumbells and a set of leg lifts with ankle weights after my lunch is digested

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  Snickers Bar (blech!)
  • L:  liver pate, 1 slice low fat cheddar, 5 oatcakes, yogurt
  • S:  clementine, pineapple
  • D:  veggie chili & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  spicy hot chocolate, packet of baked crisps
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1750  ???

Have a great weekend, ladies!

Edit:  OMG!  My hub has been baking bread again. He does the mixing in the bread machine, lets it rise, then bakes it in the oven. Comes out better than using the machine to do it all. BUT, it's so hard to resist. Just had a couple of pieces warm from the oven. He used multigrain, white, and rye and added sunflower seeds and sesame. STOP EATING THE BREAD!!!

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 03/23/2012:
OH, Snickers used to be one of my favorites. But since I am only eating good quality dark chocolate I'm sure snickers would be disappointing now! Your spiced hot chocolate sounds yummy! It wasn't cold enough, long enough this year. I had only a couple hot chocolates. I like Almond Joy hot chocolate - mix 1 ounce coconut rum and 1 ounce Amaretto into packaged hot chocolate mix and add 4 ounces boiling milk. It smells wonderful and tastes fantastic. I make a Mexican chocolate cake that has cayenne pepper in the chocolate. I really like pepper and sweet together too. Have a great weekend!

supercheese on 03/23/2012:
snickers :D haven't had one in YEARS!!! YUM :D

sweetpea1977 on 03/23/2012:
The only time Snickers come into our house anymore is on Halloween. Thankfully, Ethan is old enough to eat them now. We ate most of his candy on his first two Halloweens! Anyway, it looks like you'll still get plenty of good foods in though, so just brush it off as a learning experience!

Great exercise plan!!

selina on 03/23/2012:
I love the taste of payday (peanut butter brittle, i think), but I'm also spoiled with high quality chocolate after having lived in Switzerland for so many years. Have a great day!

sweetpea1977 on 03/23/2012:
your husband is evil!!! :-)

Kati on 03/23/2012:
bread machine is evil!!! :)

thenewMLE on 03/23/2012:
I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH BAKING BREAD!!! I have a bread machine that I used once a week for 2 years straight without ever missing a week to make homemade yeast rolls. I would use the machine for the kneading and rising and then I would shape my rolls and let them rise again. I would use them for sandwiches all week. I miss that smell... I think I will look into some artisan breads using whole grains and get it going again! I could live on warm bread and butter with a glass of wine...

V on 03/23/2012:
Great workout today Annie <3

Sunshine today!

Trying to shove hubby out the door so I can do housework. He just gets underfoot especially in the living room and kitchen.  He's agreed to go for a bike ride.

There's a bike ride we haven't been on in years and it's 'around the block'. Actually we don't have a 'block' as we are coastal with forest and mountains behind us. But if we do a circle it's about 20 miles. There are two incredibly steep hills we have to go up and I've always walked the bike up it before. Hub would always ride it, say 'nyah, nyah, nyah and call me a wimp  and then whine about knee pain later. With my spin bike workouts I wonder if I can ride up it w/o causing any knee damage?

I ate far too much french bread yesterday and also had a couple of cereal bars last night that were not on the menu!  So lower cals today.  Might go for a walk with my camera after I get the housework done.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/big fat juicy sweet raspberries/skimmed milk, tea with milk
  • L:  French toast with maple syrup (I've been craving it for weeks!)
  • S:  banana, clementine
  • D:  veggie chili, salad, drink
  • S:  3 oatcakes, hot chocolate
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1357

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 03/22/2012:
The bike actually helps my knees - so far. I'll bet you can do it without suffering damage. But, Annie - 20 miles is a bit more than "round the block"! Go for it.

Umpqua on 03/22/2012:
LOL at hubby getting underfoot. I actually get underfoot with mine sometimes, I can't seem to help myself ;) I'm sure that bike ride is breathtakingly gorgeous and I bet it will be much easier for you with the shape you're in now!

supercheese on 03/22/2012:
But french bread sounds so good.....bad calories though. Have a good one annie!!

liza36 on 03/22/2012:
Love your description of the raspberries. It makes me want to go to the store now.

It might be nice to tackle that bike ride, only if you think your knee could handle it.

Thanks for your kind words yesterday. It was what I needed to hear. Thanks!!

sweetpea1977 on 03/22/2012:
lol, my children and hubby always get in my way of my housework. It would be so nice to send them all off for a weekend so I can get the house the way I want it to be! :)

Man, that 20 mile bike ride sounds beautiful. Can I go??? Are you able to ride with your camera? If I were invited, I'd find a way to take mine (backpack perhaps?). Ooh, and I'd make my hubby backpack a simple picnic for us to enjoy!

As for preventing knee pain/damage, I'd do some research on proper seat height on the bike. Hollybelle may have some advice on that.

French toast sounds good, especially overnight soaked oven baked french toast. Mmmm! Sorry, should have kept that to myself! :)

biscottibody59 on 03/22/2012:
Thanks for the BD greetings--I agree age is really just a number. I can't fall into the trap of typical "aging." I think about women in my family (especially my late mother) who are perfect examples that it isn't anything to get all that hung up about. There's much more to focus on:-)

Hope you have a good ride!

thenewMLE on 03/22/2012:
Your bike ride sounds so inviting! I am a frustrated retired photographer and would love nothing more than a coastal ride and photographic journey!! Hopefully your knees will have strengthened and you can nanabooboo him this time! Bike rides = allowable fresh French Bread!! Have a great day!

Greetings, lovely ladies!

Had a great workout at the gym this morning!  I love the spin bike, but I wonder why others choose it over the other bikes when nobody stands up on it except me as far as I've seen?  Standing up makes it an intense workout.   Love using the nautilus, etc equpment again! I'm focusing a lot more on my abs and back now as well.

Had a wee chat with a lady there who was my boss about 10 years ago and told her about the difficulty finding a bathing suit to fit with my excess skin.  She said get a bikini!!  And I'd been thinking the same thing, especially after Morocco.  I've always thought of bikinis as being for young, flat bellied lasses.  But why shouldn't I wear one?!! Maybe I'll take a look for one while in London, and if not, I'll get one in Glasgow.  I'll get a pretty matching wrap or dress to go with it.

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike - nearly half of it was standing
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus machines
  • worked obliques, biceps and triceps using the pulleys/weights
  • lots of abs and back routines on the floor
  • good stretching
  • At home later:  4 sets of dumbbells, leg lifts with ankle weights, squats

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea and milk
  • S:  post workout - 25g of almonds (153 cals)
  • L:  tuna/mayo/onion on 2 slices wholegrain seeded bread, yogurt
  • S:  strawberries, grapes, and some of the yummy French bread that hub is baking
  • D:  veggie curry & basmati rice, salad, drink
  • S:  3 oatcakes, hot chocolate
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1733

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

lolla on 03/21/2012:
I am from Brazil and I always wore a bikini and it feels so good to feel the sun on my tummy, go ahead, get a bikini! Why not!

sweetpea1977 on 03/21/2012:
They dont stand up on it because they ain't cool like you! :)

Yay for a bikini. I was just thinking to myself that I actually feel confident enough to try on some bikinis this year. I wonder if I'll find one that will work with my giant chest? My biggest fear is that it will slip off in the middle of a very busy beach! lol

Great job on the exercise and foods!

thenewMLE on 03/21/2012:
I've been wearing a tankini with more of a modest skirted style bottom. I did buy some separates pieces and picked up a more traditional bikini bottom with higher legs to wear with the tankini top. I tried it on last weekend and I actually like the bikini bottom better. I will continue to cover my tummy with the tankini top until I lose about another 20 pounds. But Annie, you look great and you should be comfortable sporting a bikini!! Go for it!! I did notice my arm flab almost gone and not sagging between arm and shoulders! That made me feel a little better...

selina on 03/21/2012:
Bikinis sound great! Woohoo!

legcramps on 03/21/2012:
Do it! I think as long as you feel comfortable in a bikini, you should wear one. Great job with the spin bike; maybe those other people you noticed on it don't know how to use it???

moogy on 03/21/2012:
I think that nowadays no body cares what anyone wears and if you want to go for it:) Excellent work on the bike I bet your legs are looking good:)

V on 03/21/2012:
You are hardcore so that is why you stand!! I think you should show off all the hard work you put in with a nice flattering bikini<3 Oh RYC.."Project Ab Mayhem: is all about getting at LEAST a 6pack ;)

Umpqua on 03/21/2012:
Absolutely go for a bikini - whatever fits best and makes you comfortable! I got a bikini last year, my first in many years. I only wore it out in public once but I figure I can work up to wearing it more often this summer :)

thinkpositive on 03/21/2012:

Greetings, ladies!  Today was not a scheduled gym day for me but I had to go into town to pick up the car as I had to leave it there yesterday to get a new battery.  So I figured I might as well do today's cardio at the gym.  An hour of serious fat-burning, muscle building, stamina increasing!!

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike - intense!
  • 25 mins elliptical
  • good streching

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk
  • S:  post workout:  fruit nut bar

  • S:  2 clementines, choc fibre bar
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink

Good 2 hour workout at the gym!  Had some almonds right after to revive me, then visited a friend for lunch.  She's an elderly lady who loves to bake so I knew it would not be a low cal lunch.  She doesn't take no for an answer when she offers goodies.  We had a very nice visit catching up as I hadn't seen her in years.

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin bike, lots of standing
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus machines
  • obliques, biceps, triceps on the pulley equipment
  • really good abs and back workout using a variety of routines
  • squats and lunges
  • good stretching

Should have done dumbbells and leg lifts with ankle weights when I got home, but was too knackered.

Menu:

B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk

S:  post workout - 25 g of almonds

L:  I think I had 3 of the 1/4 cheese sandwiches, a few wee cakes, biscuits (cookies), a dark bread with butter, some kind of cake with lots of chocolate and caramel

D: veggie curry & rice, drink

S:  ?

TOTAL:  no idea

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

That was an awesome workout. Good job! As for the lunch, dont worry about it too much. You are super-disciplined, so it probably wont even amount to anything. Just keep truckin'! :)

LOL your friend sounds like my grandma ;) she's a real food pusher! In fact, for her birthday last year we gave her a card with her Top 10 Reasons We Need To Eat listed all over it; it was hilarious!!!

Have a great week :)

So hard to say no to the elderly. Won't it be good when the time comes when everyone obeys our every word?? LOL
