Good morning, ladies. Sniffle, sniffle, cough, cough. Arghh....   I was not a good girl in London as you can see by my weight gain. I had lowered my goal weight from 132 to 130 last week. I was 132.6 the morning we left. Can't blame it on water or salt as the scale is 2 pounds less than yesterday morning. Really need to go to the gym but just can't do it yet. Going to workout in my home gym today - exercise bike, dumbbells, floors exercises, squats, etc. Hope I can make it to the gym tomorrow. The spin class should be starting soon and I'm anxious to go.


  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  chicken breast sandwich, yogrut
  • S:  strawberries, clementine
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  packet of baked crisps, hot chocolate
  • Lots of teas and water

TOTAL:  1316

Goal:  130 lbs, a smaller waist, and able to fit into a tankini by May 29th when we go to the US.  

Progress as of today: 31.6 lbs lost so far, only 5.4 lbs to go!

Go girl!! You have done it successfully after each trip which means you are capable of enjoying yourself AND taking it off again. Having the trips spaced so nicely gives you the time between for toning. I can see you in that tankini soaking up the rays on the East Coast!!! Have a nice day!

Hiya ladies! Back home from London. We had an amazing time! My good intentions quickly went down the tube though and I indulged more every day. In a word O.I.N.K.!!!

Walking along the Thames Path to the concert on Sunday:

Back on track today though. Didn't get on the scale this morning but I know I gained, I can feel it. Will get on the scale tomorrow morning.

Woke up yesterday morning feeling stuffy and this morning a sore throat, cough, stuffy head. So no workout today.    I'm just glad I didn't feel sick while we were wandering all over London, or even worse - trying not to cough in the concert!

Greetings lovely ladies of DD!    Thanks for your comments yesterday!

On the train to London now - First Class  - which means free food & snacks.  Yesterday we arrived in Glasgow after 2pm so by the time I got my lunch at 2.30 I was starving!  Not a good thing.  I ordered a club sandwich and chips (fries).  Was really good!  

Dinner I had ham, eggs and chips (fries) which is under 700 cals.  Good. Not high in nutrition but good calorie-wise. However, I also had in total 2 pints of beer and 1 pint of pear cider (hard). 

This morning I started out well - fried egg sandwich and low fat yogurt - less than 500 cals.  However, on the train they came around and gave us tea, oj, and a bacon panini.  Should have skipped the panini as they'll be offering us a sandwich soon.    

Planning to be good for dinner and will only have one pint of beer because at 7pm we go to hear the buddhist monk speak.  Sometime while we are here I'm going to treat myself to a new dessert at our favourite restaurant/pub - ice cream sundae which chunks of brownie and chocolate sauce.  

I tried on a bikini yesterday and it was not good.  Not good at all.   This belly fat has got to go so I'm going to be very very good when we get home from London.  I'll have two months before our trip to the US.  

Changing goal weight to 130.  I haven't gained enough muscle yet for it to affect the scale and I was happier with my belly size when I dipped down to 128 to 130.  So am changing goal for now.

lol, I love the thumbs up to First Class. Thats awesome! I havent had much experience with real train travel, with the exception of the Napa Wine Train that does a big long loop through California's wine country. We made the mistake of riding at night so we didnt see a darn thing on our ride. At least the food was superb (a multi course dinner with wine perfectly paired with each entree).

a bacon panini, oh my! I am a bacon nut so I wouldnt have been able to refuse that, lol!

Hey, do you know if Victoria's Secret ships to Scotland? If so, you should look at their online swimsuit catalog. They have all sorts of suits (including tankinis) that you may like. You can even search by bust size. As far as I know, they have a good return policy, so if you dont like what you chose you can exchange it for something else (they have a complete clothing line as well).

I did some searches on tightening up loose skin from weightloss and all I found was to change your body composition with HIIT cardio (decrease fat) and resistance training + core and ab work (gain muscle), massaging your belly with all sorts of oils/creams/exfoliates to make skin more taut, and of course surgery.

I saw a suggestion on a weightloss forum. They said "duct tape works wonders" haha. They also suggested retailers like Lands End, Women Within, Newport News. I know that in the past I've relied on some sort of one piece that had special tummy control. I hope you find something that works for you!

Just wanted to say what a cool pic that was of the moon. It makes me want to do some homework with my camera--it has lots of features for a fixed lens and sadly after a year I haven't done much experimentation. Time to get on the ball I guess:-)

Good day, girls!  About to head into Glasgow where we'll stay the night. I'm excited about the trip to London, even the train! Unfortunately we're booked on the west trainline instead of the east coast which gives some stunning views of beaches and the North Sea. But it'll be good anyway.

I remember fondly when I was a little girl travelling on the train from Brum to Essex to visit cousins lying on the seat and listening to the constant bump of the train over the tracks. Beautiful pic!! We saw the moon and Venus also, but it was directly overhead! Did you do a timelapse on a tripod? My favorite used to be photographing lightening. I call it heat lightening but my hubby says there is no such thing. It's that lighting that happens when it's seriously hot and there is no rain and no thunder. Sometimes you can get bolts that travel sideways and shatter into many more. I hope you have another successful trip because I really like looking at your photos - I feel like I got to take a vacation!!

Hi ladies! Thanks for yesterday's comments.  We had a very nice time at our friends' house last night. Dinner was homemade tomato and onion bread, homemade tomato soup, a really tender roast beef, roast potatoes, salad, homemade apple pie topped in hot custard, and lots and lots of wine. Too much wine.  

Didn't sleep well last night as I kept waking up with a mouth dry as the Sahara Desert. Went to the gym an hour later than intended.  


  • 35 mins on the spin bike - intense
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus machines
  • cable/pulleys for biceps, triceps, obliques
  • lots of abs and back exercises (including plank)
  • did 10 squats during the rest time after each set of triceps on the pulley 


  • 4 sets of 10 dumbbells - 5 routines
  • leg lifts with ankle weights
  • glute lifts with ankle weights


  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 fruit/nut bars
  • L:  2 eggs, 2 veggie sausages, yogurt
  • S:  apple, clementine
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink

GOALS:  waistline 30" or less, smaller bra cup size, a firm, toned and strong body!!

I like your goals Annie!! I've been using the ankle weights just for my leg lift exercises and now I am ordering a 2,3,5 lb pair hand set so I can add a little variety to my still short work out. Last Friday when we walked, I put the ankle weights on my wrist and raised my arms over my head and slowly lowered while I walked. After a mile, I had to give up the weights but I think I am seeing some toning in my arms. I was afraid of "cotton mouth" last night because of all the sodium, so all day long I drank water with lemon and mint and I must have done pretty good, because I only woke up twice for water last night and my rings aren't stuck! That's one of the side effects of too much crawfish! Have a great week!

Your 1st class train trip reminds me of ours, from Paris to London through the channel underground, two years ago. The whole train was first class: foods and wine were included in the ticket price! Unforgettable trip!

I don't see my son's two boys much even though they are only two hours away, they are too busy, I cant drive that far etc. However I managed to get son to send me photo's and a video over the weekend. Good morning, ladies!  After yesterday's candy bar and massive bread consumption, I'm much lower cals today.  

We're spending the night in Glasgow Weds. and Thursday morning we're catching the train to London and staying there till Monday. This means eating out and drinking beer - in moderation!. Will be sure I do a strength training workout at least twice while we are there and I've instructed hubby to nag me which I should have done for the Morocco trip. We'll do a LOT of walking in London. 

We're going first class on the train (not as posh as it sounds) which means complimentary tea/coffee, sandwiches, snacks.  I will want crisps (potato chips) but they'll be the high fat ones so I'm packing some of my baked crisps. Also packing some fruit/nut bars.  

We'll have wifi on the train, in the hotel, and via mobile so I won't be out of touch. 


Plan to power walk 5 miles if the weather cooperates.  If not, tae bo/rope, bike. Perfect day for a walk!  Did 5 miles. My thighs are yelling at me though as I did serious thigh work yesterday.  Guess I'll have a rest day tomorrow.  

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  liver pate on oatcakes, yogurt, Alpen fruit bar
  • S:  fresh pineapple, clementine
  • D:  veggie & chickpea curry, salad, drink

Greetings, ladies!  Did a solid 2 hour workout at the gym this morning!  As I left the gym I realized I hadn't packed my post-workout snack (almonds or fruit/nut bar) and I was needing to be revived.  I went to the grocery store for a few things and for some reason decided that what I needed was sugar/chocolate/nuts and I stupidly bought a Snickers bar.    I should have just bought some more almonds.  I hadn't had a Snickers in years and it really didn't taste great, but I was hungry.  Guess I'm used to having quality chocolate.  So I've had to juggle my calories to make up for nearly 300 calories of rubbish.   

I LOVE spicy hot chocolate and bought a mix in Brugge a few years ago.  Been craving some lately so bought a plain hot chocolate mix and some chili powder, so I'll try making some tonight.  


  • 35 mins spin bike - intense
  • 15 mins elliptical
  • Cable/pulleys for obliques, biceps, triceps
  • squats
  • lots of ab and back work
  • 4 sets of 10 on each of the 6 nautilus
  • good stretching
  • Will do my dumbells and a set of leg lifts with ankle weights after my lunch is digested

Edit:  OMG!  My hub has been baking bread again. He does the mixing in the bread machine, lets it rise, then bakes it in the oven. Comes out better than using the machine to do it all. BUT, it's so hard to resist. Just had a couple of pieces warm from the oven. He used multigrain, white, and rye and added sunflower seeds and sesame. STOP EATING THE BREAD!!!

OH, Snickers used to be one of my favorites. But since I am only eating good quality dark chocolate I'm sure snickers would be disappointing now! Your spiced hot chocolate sounds yummy! It wasn't cold enough, long enough this year. I had only a couple hot chocolates. I like Almond Joy hot chocolate - mix 1 ounce coconut rum and 1 ounce Amaretto into packaged hot chocolate mix and add 4 ounces boiling milk. It smells wonderful and tastes fantastic. I make a Mexican chocolate cake that has cayenne pepper in the chocolate. I really like pepper and sweet together too. Have a great weekend!

The only time Snickers come into our house anymore is on Halloween. Thankfully, Ethan is old enough to eat them now. We ate most of his candy on his first two Halloweens! Anyway, it looks like you'll still get plenty of good foods in though, so just brush it off as a learning experience!

I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH BAKING BREAD!!! I have a bread machine that I used once a week for 2 years straight without ever missing a week to make homemade yeast rolls. I would use the machine for the kneading and rising and then I would shape my rolls and let them rise again. I would use them for sandwiches all week. I miss that smell... I think I will look into some artisan breads using whole grains and get it going again! I could live on warm bread and butter with a glass of wine...

Sunshine today!  

Trying to shove hubby out the door so I can do housework. He just gets underfoot especially in the living room and kitchen.  He's agreed to go for a bike ride.  

There's a bike ride we haven't been on in years and it's 'around the block'. Actually we don't have a 'block' as we are coastal with forest and mountains behind us. But if we do a circle it's about 20 miles. There are two incredibly steep hills we have to go up and I've always walked the bike up it before. Hub would always ride it, say 'nyah, nyah, nyah and call me a wimp  and then whine about knee pain later. With my spin bike workouts I wonder if I can ride up it w/o causing any knee damage?  

I ate far too much french bread yesterday and also had a couple of cereal bars last night that were not on the menu!  So lower cals today.  Might go for a walk with my camera after I get the housework done.


  • B:  porridge/big fat juicy sweet raspberries/skimmed milk, tea with milk
  • L:  French toast with maple syrup (I've been craving it for weeks!)

The bike actually helps my knees - so far. I'll bet you can do it without suffering damage. But, Annie - 20 miles is a bit more than "round the block"! Go for it.

Man, that 20 mile bike ride sounds beautiful. Can I go??? Are you able to ride with your camera? If I were invited, I'd find a way to take mine (backpack perhaps?). Ooh, and I'd make my hubby backpack a simple picnic for us to enjoy!

As for preventing knee pain/damage, I'd do some research on proper seat height on the bike. Hollybelle may have some advice on that.

French toast sounds good, especially overnight soaked oven baked french toast. Mmmm! Sorry, should have kept that to myself! :)

Thanks for the BD greetings--I agree age is really just a number. I can't fall into the trap of typical "aging." I think about women in my family (especially my late mother) who are perfect examples that it isn't anything to get all that hung up about. There's much more to focus on:-)

Your bike circuit sounds fantastic! I wish I had that! Well, we actually have a great bike trail that goes on for miles and miles along an old railroad, but the view is not that great.... have a great day!
