Greetings, lovely ladies!  

Had a great workout at the gym this morning!  I love the spin bike, but I wonder why others choose it over the other bikes when nobody stands up on it except me as far as I've seen?  Standing up makes it an intense workout.   Love using the nautilus, etc equpment again! I'm focusing a lot more on my abs and back now as well.  

Had a wee chat with a lady there who was my boss about 10 years ago and told her about the difficulty finding a bathing suit to fit with my excess skin.  She said get a bikini!!  And I'd been thinking the same thing, especially after Morocco.  I've always thought of bikinis as being for young, flat bellied lasses.  But why shouldn't I wear one?!! Maybe I'll take a look for one while in London, and if not, I'll get one in Glasgow.  I'll get a pretty matching wrap or dress to go with it.

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike - nearly half of it was standing
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus machines
  • worked obliques, biceps and triceps using the pulleys/weights
  • lots of abs and back routines on the floor
  • good stretching
  • At home later:  4 sets of dumbbells, leg lifts with ankle weights, squats

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea and milk
  • S:  post workout - 25g of almonds (153 cals)
  • L:  tuna/mayo/onion on 2 slices wholegrain seeded bread, yogurt
  • S:  strawberries, grapes, and some of the yummy French bread that hub is baking
  • D:  veggie curry & basmati rice, salad, drink
  • S:  3 oatcakes, hot chocolate
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1733

I am from Brazil and I always wore a bikini and it feels so good to feel the sun on my tummy, go ahead, get a bikini! Why not!

Yay for a bikini. I was just thinking to myself that I actually feel confident enough to try on some bikinis this year. I wonder if I'll find one that will work with my giant chest? My biggest fear is that it will slip off in the middle of a very busy beach! lol

I've been wearing a tankini with more of a modest skirted style bottom. I did buy some separates pieces and picked up a more traditional bikini bottom with higher legs to wear with the tankini top. I tried it on last weekend and I actually like the bikini bottom better. I will continue to cover my tummy with the tankini top until I lose about another 20 pounds. But Annie, you look great and you should be comfortable sporting a bikini!! Go for it!! I did notice my arm flab almost gone and not sagging between arm and shoulders! That made me feel a little better...

Do it! I think as long as you feel comfortable in a bikini, you should wear one. Great job with the spin bike; maybe those other people you noticed on it don't know how to use it???

Absolutely go for a bikini - whatever fits best and makes you comfortable! I got a bikini last year, my first in many years. I only wore it out in public once but I figure I can work up to wearing it more often this summer :)

Greetings, ladies!  Today was not a scheduled gym day for me but I had to go into town to pick up the car as I had to leave it there yesterday to get a new battery.  So I figured I might as well do today's cardio at the gym.  An hour of serious fat-burning, muscle building, stamina increasing!!  

Workout:

  • 35 mins spin bike - intense!
  • 25 mins elliptical 
  • good streching

Menu:  

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk
  • S:  post workout:  fruit nut bar
  • L:  pbj on whole grain seeded toast, yogurt, skimmed milk
  • S:  2 clementines, choc fibre bar
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  glass of red wine, 2 oatcakes with low fat cheese
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1693

Good 2 hour workout at the gym!  Had some almonds right after to revive me, then visited a friend for lunch.  She's an elderly lady who loves to bake so I knew it would not be a low cal lunch.  She doesn't take no for an answer when she offers goodies.  We had a very nice visit catching up as I hadn't seen her in years.  

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin bike, lots of standing
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus machines
  • obliques, biceps, triceps on the pulley equipment
  • really good abs and back workout using a variety of routines
  • squats and lunges
  • good stretching

Should have done dumbbells and leg lifts with ankle weights when I got home, but was too knackered.

Menu:

B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk

S:  post workout - 25 g of almonds

L:  I think I had 3 of the 1/4 cheese sandwiches, a few wee cakes, biscuits (cookies), a dark bread with butter, some kind of cake with lots of chocolate and caramel  

D: veggie curry & rice, drink

S:  ?

TOTAL:  no idea

The sun finally came out and had hoped to get in a power walk, but got diverted to other things. Hubby couldn't start the car so went to a meeting in someone else's and I had to wait for the AA to come. Made some bread in the machine and some wholemeal scones but haven't tasted them yet. My French grammar book came in the post and I'm browsing through that. Took some pics of the garden and the loch.

I'd love to walk but it's breezy out and only 50F so feels even cooler. Tomorrow is supposed to be my rest day but I guess today is. So I'll either walk or do tae bo/jump rope tomorrow.  

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, raspberries (big and sweet!), skimmed milk, tea with milk
  • L:  polenta, 1 egg, cappuccino
  • S:  clementine, scone
  • D:  veg curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  packet of baked crisps, apple

Edit:  Feeling peckish, think because I'm tired.  Had a fruity cereal bar, and 2 yogurt bars. Didn't eat the apple which was on my menu. Still hungry (I think) but staying out of the kitchen! Urge to pig out.  Nearly 10 pm so I'll go brush my teeth as I'm less tempted after my teeth have been brushed at night.

Your flower is beautiful! Is that a daffodil? I love raspberries too. The blueberry muffins were incredibly and I bought some apple sauce today to add to some of my recipes, but I don't really know what to sub out of the muffin recipe for the apple sauce. I intended to use it in place of some of the splenda, but that is adding more moisture and I don't know if that would make my muffins too wet. The 2 cups of ww pastry flour has been soaked in 1 cup buttermilk. Should I use less buttermilk or just try the straight out sub of some of the splenda without changing the milk to flour ratio? I've only had scones at high tea with lemon curd and I don't know if I would like them not super sweet. Are your scones just like very dense little cakes or a cross between a cake and cookie and biscuit? Enjoy your rest day and tomorrow is always available for exercise!

Good day, girls!  Gym day. I need to rearrange my carefully planned gym/shopping/bus schedule as it's not working out. I was hoping to be able to do the majority of our grocery shopping every MWF after the gym (on the free bus - saves a bundle on petrol!). I've realized the time I've allotted myself at the gym is not nearly enough. Plans to get up early this morning and catch an earlier bus didn't work out. MW I got home after 1.30 and that is too late for me to have lunch. My body needs lunch by 12.30. I did bring 2 oatcakes with pb to eat after just after my workout and it was very reviving! So always going to bring a healthy snack.  

So I've changed my plan to driving every Monday and doing the heaviest shopping.  Weds. no shopping, Fri early bus and a couple of bags of shopping after.  So I'll get in between 1 3/4 and 2 hours workout each time.  

Got soreness in my thighs, triceps, and sides of my back from some of the nautilus machines.  But that's good. 

Workout:  

  • 30 mins spin bike (about 10 mins standing) - plan on 45 mins each time in future workouts
  • 3 sets of 10 on 6 nautilus/resistance 
  • abs/back on floor using 1/2 a ball 
  • pulley/weights to work my sides
  • This afternoon I'll do my dumbbells and also the squats & lunges I didn't have time to do, probably some more abs

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout - 2 oatcakes with pb in between
  • L:  2 eggs, polenta fried in spray and 1/2 tsp oil, yogurt
  • S:  clementine, banana
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, fruit/nut bar
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1609

I was coming to your diary to ask about your family in MI and I went to Em's diary to check on her first and saw where you said your family is OK. Thank goodness. It is a bad tornado season this year. Thanks for your comments - it IS A LOT of supplements. I hope they help. I am a little embarassed to be taking them all as I have not been a big believer in supplements, but since my customer had such a good experience with this clinic, I am giving it a go. Good plans and great idea on taking healthy snack - when I do that I am so happy.

About no mayo - no I haven't found any light mayo that tastes good to me. When I use it on sandwiches, though, I will use only enough to "say" there's some on there - I actually put it on and scrape it off LOL! So I don't slather it on, although I'd LIKE to! Anyway It's not so bad without any. The turkey and bread was moist.

Good day, ladies!  

Went through all my clothes this morning and every single piece of 'big' clothing are in two big bin bags and will soon be headed to a charity shop. I even had to get rid of some XL tshirts that I had. Got rid of trousers, skirt, shorts, capris. Think I'll go to the British Red Cross Shop with them this time. One of the pairs of shorts that I kept were bought in the mid 90's I think.  They fit well now, but I remember when they were so big I couldn't wear them - they were huge in the waist. That was during one of skinny periods when I weighed under 120 pounds.  It broke my heart   but I have to give away my very favourite capris. I wore them in Uganda all the time, even when I lost a lot of weight and had to hold them up with a belt.  Comfy and have good secure pockets with zippers on them.  

This morning the scale said 131.8 but my waist which was down to 31 is now 32.  Huh?!    Oh well.  I'll just keep working and do my programme at the gym and at home. I'll vary my calories as well to higher on gym days.  

Goal:  29" waist (28?), supertoned everywhere, strength, stamina!

Workout:

Housework, cleaning out closets, cupboards. laundry, etc. 

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, raspberries, skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  polenta, 2 eggs, yogurt
  • S:  banana
  • D:  soup, 4 oatcakes, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, packet of baked crisps
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1411 cals

I know it feels good to empty out the closet, but it does feel like you are giving away old friends!! My empty outs have always been in the other direction- giving away clothes that had become too small. My rational was that if I could ever fit them again they would be out of style and I should treat myself to something new!! My weight gain was very gradual so it took several years before something just didn't fit anymore but I had to learn to let it go!! Congrats on the weight drop and good luck on the toning! I know you can do it! Your diary weight record is an inspiration to me to see that it really can happen!!!

The railroad bike trails must be popular everywhere. There is one a couple of hours north of here in the state of Ohio called The Little Miami Rails to Trails path - it's 100 miles of paved trail along the old RR tracks. Goes through little towns with cafes, etc. I want to ride it, but everytime I try it has rained! Good work on the closet purge!

Great day!  Had a review and plan done for me at the gym today. The trainer asked what I wanted to work on and what I've been doing. He corrected my abs routines which often hurt my neck or lower back. He also gave me a couple of new ones using the ball and also one for my back. He also corrected one of my squats routines. I mentioned all the loose skin around my middle and he gave me some moves using the pulley/weight machine. Also had help on the spin machine but needed to bring headphones to use the video with instruction.  A written plan is being done for me and will be there on Friday

I ran into two people I hadn't seen in years which was really nice - one on the bus who invited me to lunch next Monday, and one in the gym who used to be my boss back in 2001.  

Workout:

  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 pieces of Nautilus resistance equipment
  • 20 mins elliptical machine
  • 10 mins spin bike
  • a few abs routines
  • 3 exercises on the pulley/weights equipment
  • 4 sets of dumbbells at home

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/blueberries, skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  after gym - yogurt bars
  • L:  pbj on multigrain seeded toast, yogurt, clementine, 1 oat cake
  • D:  veg soup, 3 oatcakes w/pb, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, yogurt bars
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1494

Great stuff indeed! The earplugs with the music is cool! I think they don't have it here, at least I haven't seen such thing yet. In my gym they have the TV on, but normally they show MTV or VH1... last year they were showing the news but this year, nothing like that.

Good morning, ladies! I'm anxious to get a gym/home routine figured out.  Since spin class doesn't start until the end of April I'm going to use the one they have in the gym. It has programmes to choose or to set up your own. I'll get help with it when I go in tomorrow. 

The scale said 135.8 on Thursday morning after we returned from our trip. This morning it said 131.8.  How much of that was fluid is anybody's guess, but I do feel 'smaller' than when we got home.  However, my main goals now are build muscle, gain strength, be toned, be fit, increase stamina!!!  Oh yea, and for this excess skin to tighten up or simply magically disappear instead of just hanging there looking flabby.  I know, I know, takes time. 

Workout:

  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope
  • abs - since I didn't do any yesterday

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  grilled cheese sandwich, yogurt
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  veg chili or curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  packet of baked crisps, hot chocolate
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1349

I studied Japanese for nearly 10 years (off and on) but still can't read the newspaper, ha! It's a hard language to learn and to keep. I can carry on a conversation fairly easily, though.

I got my ankle weights last night! they have the little pouches where I can incrementally increase or decrease the weight. I got 2.5 pounders. I hope to start tonight. Last night we cooked dinner, entertained MIL, gave an interview to a 5th grader for married couples, and I dropped off some recipes and visited with an old friend until bed time. We did squeeze a walk in after the interview. Enjoy your day and thanks for the guidance!

Went to the gym this morning to renew my membership after nearly 6 years. Didn't get a full workout as I had to do paperwork, choose which type of membership, set up direct debit.  Didn't get an induction as I've been a member before and they were booked up with some newbies. Had to ask for some help on the resistance machines as all the machines were new since I'd been a member. There's only one stepper machine but I noticed one spinning bike so asked about possible spinning classes in the future. YES!!  Woohoo!   The end of April they plan to start spinning classes. I'll have to sign up ahead of time. Weds I go back in and they'll help me work out a plan depending on what I want to work on.  There are classes using the ball as well. Looks like a lot of the classes are at 1.30pm which makes no sense to me. Does that mean I have to finish lunch by 11.30 to avoid indigestion??  

I used my free 'old lady' bus pass to get to the gym.    Then after the gym I bought two bags of groceries and took the bus home.  

Workout - sort of:

  • 10 mins treadmill
  • 10 mins stepper
  • 3 - 4 sets on 5 resistance machines

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  missed the bus and was starving after the gym, so bought some yogurt bars - 142 cals.
  • L:  liver pate and oatcakes
  • S:  strawberries
  • D:  chickpea curry & rice, salad, drink 
  • S:  packet of baked crisps
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1422

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

I'm glad you had such a successful morning even though the workout was cut short for paperwork. I have increased my leg reps and was wondering how much weight do you recommend for the ankle weights?

Bike Riding - My issue is placement of my "ischial tuberosities" on the saddle. Need some adjustments so that I do not "ride up" the saddle over distance riding in the drops, etc. If I can't get proper placement of the wider part of the saddle with the adjustment I may have to purchase a wider built saddle. Excited for your new gym membership - sounds fun.

Yay for gym membership! How exciting about spin classes being added to the schedule!

As for when to eat, I've heard that its best to have at least an hour between a main meal and a major workout to avoid stomach issues.

How exciting to join the gym, and use the bus pass! There are some advantages to age.

I've been debating about joining a gym as well. I have been part of gyms in the past, many years ago, but never went and it was a waste of money. I also don't know how to use all the machines, and a personal trainer is expensive. I'm still debating.

Tokyo- yes, we've been posted there twice before early in my husband's career with the foreign service. I was much younger then, and decided to go back to school. This time it's going to be a totally different experience. We are excited!

Love "senior" discounts & take advantage of them whenever I can find them There has to be some benefit to being 60 & over! Nice to have the option of the gym although you seem to have a good handle on a variety of exercise.

I love my gym, but not using it a lot lately. :-/ My favorite activity there is the circuit training (combo of cardio and strength training). Have fun at your new gym!
