Good day ladies!  I appreciate your comments.  

I've posted in the forum about my food plans for a 3 week visit to see my family over the holidays.  

The sun is shining and there are very few clouds.  It's about 8c/45F right now at 10.30, so chilly.  But this is cardio only day so will walk at least 4 miles.  Bringing my camera along and hoping it doesn't mess up my stride.  

On my walk this morning.  These shots are down our road.

Menu:  

B:  porridge & tea

L:  2 veg sausages on bread with mustard, yogurt

S:  2 satsumas

D:  homemade veggie/bean soup, toast with pb, salad, drink

S:  dried apricots & hot chocolate

Lots of teas, water

TOTAL:  1314

These pics are great - did you take them? The tall ship - do you know the namae of it? I went on a windjammer "cruise" back in the day on The Polynesia and it looks alot like this. It was so fun! We had a storm at sea that was "interesting" and made for a great story. Great idea taking camera on walk - love it! Have a good one. You are amazing, really!

Wondering if during your trip you're going to be encountering family/friends who haven't seen you in your fabulous bod (and soul)? And their reaction could be--live it up--you can always lose the weight (again--egad!) later. Or something like that. And all you want is to enjoy it all (the trip, the experience and the loved ones) on your own terms. Ah, I'm just thinking out loud:-)

I was busy this morning!  Hubby is doing his good deed and went into Glasgow to help out his elderly uncle.  So I cleaned the bathrooms, washed the kitchen floor, threw in a load of laundry, and then did my workout.  

Workout:

  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope
  • weights
  • lower body toning - added a couple more
  • ab crunches

Menu:

B:  porridge & tea

L:  2 veg sausages on bread with mustard, yogurt

S:  2 satsumas

D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink

S:  melba toast or prunes or dried apricots, sparkling juice

TOTAL:  1314

Have a nice quiet afternoon planned and will finish the book about Eleanor Roosevelt.

I'm glad you had a nice time in Glasgow. I liked your comments about the full length mirror. I try to avoid mirrors - it's not a pretty sight! Your realization about seeing yourself at this size and the reward of that is very inspiring to me. That's one thing I hope to gain sooner or later.

Happy Sunday, girls!  

When we were in the hotel in Glasgow I caught sight of myself in the full length mirror and it occurred to me that seeing myself this size is a lot more satisfying than the pleasure I get eating lots of fatty, sugary foods.  And I don't mind anymore that our big bedroom wardrobe doors are all mirrors.  I don't have to try avoid seeing myself in them any more!  

Power walked 4 miles this morning.  The last mile or so one of my quads started to ache and feel tight. I didn't stretch after my weights and lower body toning yesterday.  I did a lot of squats which I'm sure is the reason for the pain today.  No excuse as I have a sign up the room which says S.T.R.E.T.C.H.

Good day, girls!
 
Had a nice couple of days in Glasgow - even with the rain - at least it wasn't cold.  I didn't see any reason to lug my camera around, so no photos.  Glasgow is just an hour and a half away but for an evening concert and leisurely time there, an overnight stay is the only way (ferry timetables).  Nice concert. Had between 2300 - 2400 calories Thursday.  Friday I couldn't even guess but probably about the same.  Oink. I was proud of myself for choosing tea and a banana instead of a cappuccino and chocolate muffin at the museum!
 
Friday after a breakfast of pancakes & bacon (British bacon - more meat than fat) we went to a museum we really enjoy.  We were surprised to see a small group of 6 or 7, the centre of which was Kofi Annan (for those who don't know - the former Secretary General of the UN).  One of the guides told us that Dr Annan was very surprised that entry to the museums here are free.  
 
After some really frustrating bra shopping I finally had a clerk measure and fit me.  I've been wearing the wrong size for years!  I bought a 32FF.  The clerk noticed all my extra skin and said after it tightens up my bra size will change again and recommended I only buy one bra for now.  
I was 134.6 on Thursday morning when we left for Glasgow, was 135.2 this morning.  
 
Cupboards and fridge were bare, so had to shop before working out.  I try to avoid Saturday grocery shopping, but I'm stuck.  
 
Workout:
  • power walk 4 miles unless it's raining - if so, 45 mins tae bo/jump rope
  • free weights
  • abs
  • lower body toning
 
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk
  • L:  2 veggie sausages on 1 slice bread & mustard, yogurt
  • S:  2 satsumas
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, baked crisps
  • Lots of teas and water
TOTAL:  1292
 

Progress as of today: 31.8 lbs lost so far, only 2.2 lbs to go!

Good day ladies!  Shaking things up with varying my workouts and calories is a fabulous maneuver! Got 0.4 pounds more to go!  WOOHOO. Although the scale I had been using all along would say I had another 1.4. No biggie!  

About to do my weights and lower body workout, then I'm going to power walk up and down a hill. Sun is out but it's only about 48F.  That's okay, I'll warm up quickly.  

I might add a photo from my walk today - hoping the horses will be in the pasture.  

No horses today but glad I brought my camera:

 

Menu:

  • B:  porridge & tea
  • L:  tuna/lite mayo/onion/lettuce sandwich, yogurt - added packet of baked crisps because they go so well with tuna!  And I deserved it.
  • S:  2 satsumas
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad

  • Lots of teas, water

TOTAL:  1318  1416

Tomorrow we go to Glasgow for our overnight in the 'big city' and a concert.  Might be just a wee bit obsessive, but I've planned my meals there already (we'll eat at the same restaurant for lunch, dinner, then breakfast and they list their calories online). 

My intentions  are to eat:

B: usual porridge & tea

L:  cheese ham toastie (535) or Sweet thai noodles with chicken breast (546)

D:  veggie burger & chips (839), super salad no dressing (70), 2 pints of Fosters (386)

Intermission at concert - glass of wine (150?)

TOTAL:  under 2300

Well, those are my plans anyway.    Haven't decided on breakfast the next morning but might have pancakes and bacon.

Good day ladies!  Your encouragement, support and lovely comments mean a lot to me.  

I know I'm being impatient about wanting my skin to just snap back like a rubber band.  So I'll just keep working hard and try to be patient.  

I'm feeling very confident about being able to maintain this time.  I'll continue to count calories and weigh my food but will have treats and splurges on social occasions. I'm determined I'll never need to diet again (maybe a couple of pounds after a holiday, but that's it).  My main reason to lose was for health, not vanity, so I need to remember that.  I feel fit and I certainly don't feel like an almost 60 year old, although I've no idea what it's supposed to feel like.  LOL.  

After we return from Morocco for the big birthday the end of Feb I'll be re-joining the local gym!!  I've already got a workout schedule made and I'm anxious to use the resistance equipment again since I haven't been a member since I retired in 2007!

I think you're doing great even without the gym membership! :o) I wish I could have the same self-discipline as you, or the same love for these types of exercise. I just love group exercises and overall, the WATER. So, I need to relocate, as our bathtub doesn't serve me... hehe

Gorgeous dahlias! RE the skin, you probably already know this, but cocoa butter and vitamin E are great too. My night cream has royal jelly and I've been reading some wonderful things about that so I may try that on my problem areas as well. Have a good one!

Good morning, ladies!  Hope you all a good weekend.

All your support and compliments are appreciated!  Nearly to maintenance!  My hub was in the city yesterday and came back with a gift for me - a nice (small) box of dark chocolate chili penguins.  They are 60 cals each.  Yummy, but could barely taste any chili.  I had two.

I still feel like I'm BIG.  I've lost plenty of times before but don't remember still feeling big. When I hit 40 and got to 120 pounds (from 155) I'd put my hands on my waist as it's something I often do, and I remember always being delighted and surprised at how small it was.  

I feel smaller when I look in the mirror and I'm wearing smaller trousers and the buttons on my shirts aren't about to pop.  Not pleased when I have nothing on as I just see all that excess and saggy skin.  It will tighten up when I build the muscles underneath it, won't it???    Right??!

I was going to do tae bo/jump rope this morning for my cardio but the sun was shining so I walked again.  It's such a pretty walk but that 1/2 mile with the wind blowing right at me is rough!  Brrr....

Workout:

  • 4 mile power walk - 65 mins
  • weights (changed to the one dumbell triceps extension as I wasn't happy with routine I was doing, also have changed my biceps routine)
  • ab crunches
  • lower body toning

Menu:  (not doing extra calories today because we're going for our overnight in the city Thursday and I'll get extra calories then!)  I SO deserve it!

  • B:  porridge & tea
  • L:  polenta fried in 1 tsp oil, 2 eggs, yogurt
  • S:  1 satsuma, grapes 
  • D:  pumpkin curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  1 chocolate penguin or melba toast or dried fruit
  • Lots of teas, water, the last diet pepsi

TOTAL:  1275

Wow, you look fantastic!

Adding muscle you will add tight layer under the skin, which can improve how the skin looks and take away some of the sag effect. So, continue to strength train (including ab work) by working out with dumbbells/bars and resistance-training machines. Emphasize higher reps with lower weights to maintain your lean physique while firming up muscle tone.

Maintenance is the hardest part of this journey, so continue all the hard work and dedication!

Just like it takes time to take the weight off, the skin is no exception, these things take time as well Annie..My goal now is to tighten some of the excess skin that has lost some of it's elasticity from being overweight for 3 years, especially the abs..It is slowly but surely getting there so be patient and as long as you keep at with as much passion and effort as it took to lose the weight, maintenance will not be a problem!! Have a wonderful day

I imagine over time the feeling of still being "big" will fade. Just keep on keepin' on--your mind WILL catch up--I think:-)

Of course I don't know--I do know what you're talking about and sometimes people will say things to try to derail you back to your former self. You don't strike me as someone who would let those types get to you. At any rate, you know what you've accomplished and no one can take it away from you !

As for the skin, I think it depends on your genetic predisposition. Time I'm sure will help, but the main thing is you're healthier overall. There's always plastic surgery if you're still not happy with your appearance down the line.

the skin problem is a reality to me, too. It's terrible, I know. It can cause self-image issues, on a mental level, seriously. That's why some manage to get plastic surgeries paid by the state... they have vast piles of medical reports from psiciatrists and those help. I was thinking about that, too, right after I lost 130+ lbs. I went to see a doctor because of my arms, because I really hate to see them in the mirror, I look like a freakin' bat, at the house of 30... it's unfair. Or not! Well, moral issues apart, if I'd had the money, I'd go for it. I don't care about excess skins on my belly, etc. but I do care that I am unable to wear a simple top on hot summer days because I feel like a 90-year-old bat.

I have a slimmer that goes from boobs to mid thigh and are very nice under a slinky dress! Not that comfortable to wear though. Clothes hide a LOT, but then there's the naked truth! LOL.

You look absolutely incredible! I agree with V, the skin takes time too but it will tighten and I think that building the muscle mass will help with that. I have been surprised at how much my stomach has tightened up. I still have a small pouch from my multiple surgeries that I will probably always have, but I'm pleased overall considering what I looked like even at this time last year.

Good day ladies!  Hope you are all having a good weekend.  

I did do my full workout yesterday but I struggled.  Tried on smaller clothes afterwards which always revives my motivation.  The pair of trousers I use as a gauge now fit comfortably!

I'm putting my old scale up in the loft today (and getting down my aerobics step for more variety).  It only weighs in stones and pounds in whole numbers, but reads less than a pound more than the new superscale.  So I'm listing my weight from the new scale.  This morning I was 135 on the old scale, and 134.6 on the new one.  So I've actually reached my goal!  The other 2 pounds (actually 1.6) are 'credit' for the christmas trip.

I don't have any photos of myself from my top weight of 167 but I think the one below is probably about 160 pounds.  I put on the same capris yesterday to see the difference - weight was 135 not 136 as it says.  They fit very snugly in the first photo.  
 
 
Workout:  heel blister feels better so I'll put on a plaster and thick socks and go for a walk.  Not supposed to rain and it's not cold.  Probably do 4 miles.  Done:  4 miles - tired legs so a bit slow - 65 mins.

Menu:

B:  porridge & tea

L:  1 veg sausage, 1 egg, polenta fried in 1 tsp oil, yogurt

S:  1 clementine, grapes

That's great! You are my personal inspritation as I weigh about what you did in the beginning and you weigh now is below my goal! So it makes me think I can do it, too. It may take some time, but I think I can do it.

Great motivational pictures! :))) I also have some. I know I can do it, I've already lost 130+ lbs :-) It's just that I'm low on spirits lately. :o(
