Hello ladies!  Hope everyone is planning a good weekend.

Well, my headache went away after I ate my lunch yesterday.  I think the coffee made it worse.  I never drink black coffee and haven't for years.  I drink an occasional cappuccino or mocha.

This morning my schedule is off again.  Went grocery shopping as we are having guests for dinner tomorrow night.  Yes, I will go overboard on the calories tomrorow night but I'll just make up for it after.

Now I need to start cleaning house and getting in a workout.

  • B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 274
  • L:  chicken/low fat cheese/light mayo sandwich, packet of baked crisps, clementine - 364
  • S:  fat free yoghurt - 75
  • D:  veggie curry, rice, salad, drink - 476
  • S:  melba toast, strawberries - 101

TOTAL - 1290

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

Oh, and Zumba is a whole lot of fun! I like to dance, and Zumba follows very closely with choreographed dance moves. Love it!

I was reading that it is better to be a flexible dieter (having the occasional splurge) than a rigid one (allowing no treats and being really strict, then collapsing in a total binge). So enjoy your dinner and your friends:)

Hope you have a good time with your dinner:-) Hard work, but I hope you can enjoy it all too!

Workout:  Hmmm.....  Short bike ride.

This morning hub and I went to a friend's house (B & B) so I could take photos for their website. Even though I said I preferred tea I was given strong black coffee.  Had a big mug and a half and I was wired.   My husband and our friend are both very talkative and I couldn't get hub to stop talking so we could leave.  I started to get a 'hungry headache' (low blood sugar) about 1.30pm.  By the time we got home so I could have my lunch I was starving!  So in addition to my sandwich I had the packet of baked crisps I was going to have for my evening snack, also had a packet of Cadbury chocolate buttons, aTunnocks dark chocolate wafer, and milk in my tea which I've only been having in my first tea of the day.    Not going to have the two clementines or yoghurt that were on  my menu for today.

  • B:  bran flakes, banana, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 287

I survived the storm and lack of power yesterday.  A few branches down in our garden but not bad.  We were prepared for it.  Had about 300 extra comfort calories so could have been worse.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet to track and calculate my calories every day.

  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope (high intensity workout)
  • weights, floor exercises with ankle weights, abs
  • 30 minutes exercise bike

Menu plan for today which I will not stray from! (oops, spoke too soon.  Forgot I had bought some fat free yoghurt, so will have one).

  • B:  porridge, strawberries, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 269
  • L:  chicken & low fat cheese, mayo and lettuce sandwich; 1 clementine, fresh pineapple, yoghurt - 384
  • D:  veggie curry and rice, salad, orange mango drink - 476
  • S:  packet of crisps, lite hot choc - 148

TOTAL:  1277

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

thinkpositive on 09/13/2011:
The comfort food was totally called for. Your exercise is fabulous! How do you make your orange mango drink?

Maria7 on 09/13/2011:
Glad you are okay from the storm. I would have allowed 300 extra calories, too! :-)

Weight: 145.0

Delaying my workout till this afternoon as I need to go grocery shopping this morning.   As for my calories - I like to keep them below 1300.  Most days my only exercise is my actual workout of about 90 minutes and some housework.  So I'm not running around going to a job or doing a lot of walking or chasing little kids around...etc.

Later.  Should be doing an aerobic one and weights.

B:  porridge, raisins & almonds, skimmed milk, tea with milk - 274

L:  2 veggie sausages on 2 slices bread with mustard, 2 clementines, strawberries - 374

D:  veggie curry, basmatic rice, salad, orange mango drink - 476

S:  lite hot choc, packet of wheat melba toast  - 125

TOTAL:  1249

Okay, no more posting my menu until I have eaten it.  I usually stick to the plan, but I went shopping today and bought some individual packs of baked crisps (potato chips in American English)  so am exchanging one for melba toast.  98 cals instead of 75.

Feeling totally lazy this afternoon.  I'm blaming it on the weather.  Getting very windy and showery here.  Supposed to get hit by remnants of a hurricane today.  At least I can enjoy watching the loch get really wild and maybe get some pics or videos.

Our power went off and on for a  couple of hours.  Had gusts of about 70mph.  Can't read without proper light, no tv, no internet except on my android phone.   Feeling a bit edgy so I indulged in an extra packet of crisps, packet of melba toast, and glass of wine.  I'm guessing the damage is a total of 1550 cals for the day.  Could be worse.  And no workout today.  Tomorrow - serious workout!

Progress as of today: 22 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

Are you in a rural area of Scotland? I'm sure it's beautiful, I've always wanted to visit there. I have to keep my calories on the low side too as I'm short, especially on days when my boys are in at preschool and I'm home sitting at a desk working. Have a good one!

getmebackto150 on 09/12/2011:

hollybelle on 09/12/2011:
I know what you mean about not posting until it's eaten! I do that - what I have to watch out for is not FOGETTING anything. LOL! Hey, if you don't mind me asking - how did you come to be in Scotland? How long have you lived there? Sounds lovely on the loch!

biscottibody59 on 09/12/2011:
Your comment to Umpqua made me think of the movie "Local Hero," which I haven't watched in a long time. Good movie! I think it was one of Burt Lancaster's last ones.

Have a good week!

Buying an individual sized package is a good idea. At least it's portion controlled. Have a great day!

moogy on 09/12/2011:
I see the reference to Local Hero, beautiful movie and music. I love a good storm but only if everything is nailed down well. I can understand the need to hunker down and a little comfort eating. Not too much damage either. It would still have been a weight loss day!! So yay for that!! :)

V on 09/12/2011:
I am so happy to hear that you agree with weight training :) It takes alot of time and effort for women to bulk up...Personally I think there is nothing sexier than women with muscle definition( my personal goal is somewhere in between defined and bulked up..Almost there)

I've noticed lately I'm okay with what I get to eat and the amount of calories.  I started counting calories on Aug 29th.  I'd been using my own judgement before which was working, but very slowly.  For the first week or so on calorie counting I felt miserable and kept whining in the evenings that I was starving!  But I'm realizing now I'm okay.  I save a few calories for a small evening snack and that helps.  And I make sure I have a big salad with my dinner.  Hardly any calories in that rabbit food!

  • 45 mins tae bo and jump rope

TOTAL:  1231 cals

It's such a sad day today.  10 years since that horrific day.  I was already living in Scotland then and became dreadfully homesick for months after those events.  Only time I've felt homesick.

Feeling more energetic lately.  Maybe it's an emotional thing as well as physical as I've been meditating every night without fail and it makes me feel more contented in general.  My hub made me a (seiza) meditation bench which makes it easier to get comfortable and keeps my posture good while I meditate.  What a sweetheart!  Of course, he benefits as well because I'm a nicer person when I meditate faithfully.

RYC abt the shingles: Yes I got the antiviral med in the earliest stage and I have to think (since I'd never had shingles before) that it made a huge difference. I got to the eye dr early and have been monitoring the eye, though my eye wasn't infected with shingles. We can get the vaccine here in the US starting at age 50 and once I get completely past any signs symptoms related to the original infection, I'm going to get it.

I hope you don't ever get it again--not a fun time even with a mild case!

Another cloudy day and probably rainy.  Sigh.  Wish I liked to walk in the rain!

Might get on the scale every 2 weeks instead of monthly, although the full length mirrors which are the doors of our big wardrobe tell me a lot, usually more than I want to know!

Didn't put any artificial sweetener, sugar or honey on my porridge and it was fine.

I bought a super-cool raincoat this year, and since then I have no problem walking in the rain! :-)

KayBee on 09/08/2011:
Yeah the latte's are very bad, because they have sugar and normally the milk there is from powder... a liter of skimmed milk has like 350 kcals, it's not that much if you count cooking with some, too, incorporating it into your main dishes. I just have too much coffee (and I'm unable to drink coffee without milk) per day, at home, then with colleagues several times a day... and this adds up.

KayBee on 09/08/2011:
oh.. I never put sugar in my coffee. I hate it sweet, thx God. :)

liza36 on 09/08/2011:
Great job on the exercise and menu. Mirrors have a way of really telling it like it is! I try to avoid them. I used to weight myself every day. I now go several days in between, and of course I have my weekly weigh in at Weight Watchers. Whatever works for you, you should do! Have a great day.

Umpqua on 09/08/2011:
Excellent foods and exercise! I don't add sugar to my porridge either, but I always have it with fruit and that's usually enough to sweeten it. My tastes have definitely changed over the years though, I never would have been able to handle that or Greek yogurt without sweetener previously!

getmebackto150 on 09/08/2011:
its raining here too... blah! Your exercise and food look GREAT!!! I agree, mirrors and the way my clothes fit really tell me more than the scale, yet still I'm obsessed with the number... Have a great day!

Anxious to get on the scale as I've pulled out some clothes I had that were too small before and they fit.  But I find it best if I only weigh in once a month.  If I've been really good and find I haven't lost anything I get very frustrated, so best to do it when I'm sure it will say I've lost.

I have a long rental DVD by post to finish watching (that my hub doesn't want to watch again), so today I'll sit on my exercise bike for 90 minutes to finish watching it.

Menu for today:

  • Breakfast:  bran flakes, raisins, sugar, skimmed milk, tea with milk, 100ml of oj diluted - 238 cals
  • Lunch:  porridge, strawberries, skimmed milk, sugar - 254 cals
  • Snack:  2 clementines - 80 cals
  • Dinner:  veggie curry, rice, salad, orange mango drink - 480 cals
  • Snack:  yoghurt, Cadbury chocolate buttons - 195

TOTAL:  1247

Progress as of today: 19 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

KayBee on 09/07/2011:
Woohoo, congrats on the fitting clothes, I know it's a huge achievement and a superb feeling! :o) I had a hunchback and it was corrected by surgery last month. Now I'm taller and have a straight back. The sour part is the bill - the hospital sent me a foreseen 8500 EUR cost and they sent me a 19600 EUR final bill. I'm trying to fight back because I feel completely fooled by them and their system. This is why I requested the help of the in-house lawyer. I can never forget that I'm in a foreign country and I'm a foreigner. As a non-native speaker of the Portuguese language, I needed help to write effective letters to authorities. There's too much at stake. I'm Hungarian anyway, with a Portuguese boyfriend - I like to live here, the weather is nice most of the time, people are friendly... Burocracy is the only - but VERY - annoying part, the country is rather disfunctional because of this flaw...

Umpqua on 09/07/2011:
Clothes are such a wonderful gauge of your progress, much better than the scale. Enjoy your bike and the movie!

getmebackto150 on 09/07/2011:
fitting into clothes is ALWAYS so inspiring... Keep up the good work and you will be so happy when you do weigh in next month!!

liza36 on 09/07/2011:
I love the feeling of fitting into smaller clothes. I have a whole closet full to shop in when I lose a little weight. Keep up the great job!

Umpqua on 09/07/2011:
RYC about maintenance, I actually consider myself to be in maintenance now. I've been maintaining in a 5-pound range (123-128) for several months now, and I'm happy with that. I was originally aiming for 120-125, but my body seems happy a few pounds higher and that's fine by me. For me, this is definitely more difficult than losing! I've been fairly successful overall by eating in moderation and getting some exercise in - the exercise is more of a challenge for me. Reporting on the DD to keep myself accountable is a huge part of this, in the past I have stopped posting and without that accountability the pounds creep back on. So my long-term plan is to bore you folks with my long lists of foods every day and kick myself in the butt to keep at the exercise ;)

moogy on 09/07/2011:
Nice to fit into 'old clothes' and great idea to pedal while you watch. I hope you have another excellent eating day. You are doing really well:))

I think the clothes are a better indicator of your progress...Mixing up your workouts is really helpful if you feel that you have hit a wall... I am certain that in time you will get there...The last 10 lbs will be the toughest, but you can and will do this!! :)
