Photo for the day:  on a bike ride 5 years ago - standing on top of a 5,000 year old burial cairn.

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/21/2020:
You look fantastic! :-)

grannyannie on 07/21/2020:
Thanks. Photo was 5 years ago so I was likely 20 lbs lighter.

Donkey on 07/21/2020:
And I like your menu and workout today!

grannyannie on 07/21/2020:
Was a good workout! And I won't get hungry mid afternoon.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/21/2020:
Looking great in your 5yr old photo!

Good plan to get to the supermarket early so you can have it basically all to yourself!

grannyannie on 07/21/2020:
I used to line up to get in at 7 - but too crowded. Then I tried 7:30, still too many. So I've found arriving at 7:15 is perfect!

bearcountrygg on 07/21/2020:
I get to the store early too......Great pic of you Annie!!!!

grannyannie on 07/21/2020:
Thanks!

Maria7 on 07/20/2020:
Love this photo of you and what a beautiful place!!! Also I enjoyed looking at the pub photo yesterday...that is really pretty with the water behind it. Are you enjoying your electric bike?

grannyannie on 07/21/2020:
Love my bike. Had it for 5 years now. Lots of hills here which is the reason we got electric.

grannyannie - Sunday Jul 19, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 166.8

New week.  MWF 1000 calories, Tu Th Sa 1400.  Workouts M to Sat.  Sunday is flexible and I can have alcohol.

Not sure what we are doing today.  We've got sunshine and also dark clouds.  One couple is having a sister visiting, and the other couple is working on their greenhouse to turn it into a place to sit outside in the rain.

If it looks like we can get out and not get wet, we might ride our bikes 'around the block' - 20 miles.  Pubs and restaurants are now open but distancing is down to 1 metre (not far enough for me!).  There is a lovely pub where you can sit outside a great place to stop for a beer on a bike ride.

Edit:  it is raining.  And husband says he won't go to the pub if one of us has to go inside to order drinks.

Scotland is going really well with Covid but we still need to be careful. I disagree with how much they opening things up.  Looks at Victoria in Australia!  And other places.

This is the pub - down our road 8 miles. 17th century with some sections from 16th.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge with blueberries, tea w/soy
  • S:  coffee and quinoa bar
  • L:  2 fried eggs, polenta, 1 sausage
  • S:  beer and maybe crisps
  • D:  veg and chicken curry
  • S:  mixed nuts - 20 g

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 07/19/2020:
I love the photos!!! A green house sounds very nice.

grannyannie on 07/19/2020:
Yes, the greenhouse does sound nice! Hope it doesn't take them too long to finish.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/19/2020:
is the pub rebuilt or built to look exactly as it had way back when!? it's beautiful! too nice to be a pub!

grannyannie on 07/19/2020:
No, the pub is as it was. I think most is 18th century with parts inside from 17th and 16th. It's a place people used to stop in their carriages and call/whistle for a ferry to take them across the loch. That's why it's call Whistlefield.

Donkey on 07/19/2020:
I don't comment on your photos much, I am really enjoying them. Thank you for sharing!

Sorry to hear that your gathering isn't going to take place, but with the rain, well... maybe it just wasn't meant to be this weekend.

grannyannie on 07/19/2020:
Maybe later this week we can visit our friends.

Don't know if the weather will cooperate tomorrow for a garden gathering with friends, but it will be a higher calorie day and a non-workout day.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge with extra raspberries and blueberries, tea w/soy
  • S:  coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  salad with hummus and cheddar
  • D:  whatever curry or Thai food husband makes
  • S:  1 pack popcorn

Total:  just over 1,000 calories

Workout:

  • Upper body with wrist weights
  • 2 sets x 10 lower body with wrist weights (squats, lunges, calf lifts)
  • 2-3 sets x 10 bum and thighs with ankle weights
  • 2 sets abs, planks, push ups
  • jump rope 3 x 20

Another garden photo:

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Thinkpositive on 07/18/2020:
Hope your garden party works out. So pretty.

grannyannie on 07/18/2020:
Doesn't look hopeful weatherwise. Oh well.

Donkey on 07/18/2020:
Oh I hope you can have your party!

That's interesting that you have your higher calorie days on your rest days. I rather like that, being a "refuel" situation.

Is it more painful (ha ha) to eat less on days that you eat less? This question is more for my benefit than a commentary. I'm really focusing more on calorie intake lately. (or trying to, anyways...)

grannyannie on 07/18/2020:
Sunday is my only non-workout day now - I can have alcohol and extra calories. But starting tomorrow it's going to be MWF 1,000 cals and 1300-1400 on the other days. It's actually getting easier to have 1,000 calories. I think juggling is the key. Maybe you could try 2 days a week very low cal?

Horn_of_plenty on 07/18/2020:
what a great place to live with such space for walking and biking!

uh, i'm a little jealous of all these thai food you are eating!!! i may do some thai takeout next week! actually make that, i WILL do takeout next week and it will be thai!

grannyannie on 07/18/2020:
There is loads of space here! Lots of places to walk or cycle.

We used to eat a lot of Indian curries or veggie chilis and hubby just used different veggies or sauces. But after several years going to Thailand in winter he decided going 9 months without Thai food was too long. So he started watching a Thai cooking show on Youtube. I'm not a creative cook at all so I'm very happy he likes to cook!

grannyannie on 07/18/2020:
If you want to get adventurous check out this woman's Thai cooking show. She's great! https://hot-thai-kitchen.com/

Horn_of_plenty on 07/18/2020:
thanks for the info on the show!

grannyannie on 07/19/2020:
It's really good and she also puts recipes online. She is Thai but now lives in Canada.

happy-1 on 07/18/2020:
beautiful!

Thanks!

(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 166.8

Friends dropped by yesterday (unexpected) just before dinner, so brought out the wine and crisps. So calories were definitely more than 1400.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge w/raspberries, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  salad with hummus and cheddar
  • D:  veggie curry, tonic with slices of lime
  • S:  1 pack salted popcorn

Total: about 1,000 Edit: also had a quinoa bar so 1,137 cals

Step aerobics 30 minutes.  Tried some youtube videos - tried the intermediate which had a lot of jumping and just wore me out after 10 minutes. So went to the beginner one which was much easier to keep up with but still a very good workout. So I did at least 30 minutes overall.

One of the many photos of flowers in our garden:

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/17/2020:
Oh you definitely made the right choice to enjoy wine with friends! Frankly, it's not worth being a skinny stick-in-the-mud. That is to say, it would be fine not to drink the wine, too, but do enjoy time with your friends. And enjoying wine together... why not?

I'll tell you a secret. Although I am sober (abstinent), I've often fantasized about coming home from work, and enjoying a glass of wine with my husband BEFORE dinner -- sitting outside, relaxing, etc.

However, because daughter usually comes home for dinner at 5:15p, it's all rush rush rush, so that we can eat with her. When I stay late at work, I don't get to see her at all for that day.

Hopefully, husband and I will have time to drink wine, in the future, probably sooner than I think!

grannyannie on 07/17/2020:
My friend likes rose' and so do I so I've always got a good stash. Her husband likes red so I keep that around too. Usually it's so I'm prepared for a weekend garden party at their house. A lot of times I drink beer or wine because of association - like cold beer at the beach in Thailand, wine with friends, or just sitting out on our patio where I'll have either one. Airplanes - gin and tonic!

bearcountrygg on 07/17/2020:
I love irises....I really don't see them much anymore...we used to grow them......

grannyannie on 07/17/2020:
We have a lot of irises. We have a lot of everything. Every colour and dozens of species. Thanks to hubby.

legcramps on 07/17/2020:
Sounds like it was a good day :)

I am not much for wine, but I do have a taste for ale and really enjoy trying new flavors!

grannyannie on 07/17/2020:
If I could only have one type of alcohol it would be beer - from lager to porter. But I do like rose' which I really got a taste for when we became friends with a couple of in our village.

Lots of good Michigan breweries now and one of my favourites is Two Hearted Ale. So we're never short of good beer when we visit!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/17/2020:
in terms of my own cardio / leg ability, i feel i'd be a beginner on youtube too. it's good you're delving into that website for resources. you won't be bored!

grannyannie on 07/18/2020:
I thought I'd be okay as I still have good leg muscles, especially thighs from all the squats and lunges. But all the jump, get on floor, jump up stuff was too hard!

Maria7 on 07/17/2020:
What a beautiful iris! Love the color! Have been enjoying the gorgeous photos you have been sharing with us, too. Thank you!

grannyannie on 07/18/2020:
Inspired by Kathy! And I used to do that here a few years ago.

Woohoo!  Higher calories today after 3 days in a row at 1,000. Going to stay off the scale and judge loss by how my trousers fit. I'll get on the scale when I know I'll be pleased by what it says.

  • B:  porridge w/strawberries, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  coffee with coconut milk, quinoa bar
  • L:  2 fried eggs, polenta, 1 cumberland sausage
  • S:  banana
  • D:  Thai green curry, tonic with slices of lime
  • S:  1 pack salted popcorn

Total: just under 1400

  • Upper body with wrist weights

  • 2-3 sets x 10 bum and thighs with ankle weights
  • 2 sets abs, planks, push ups

On a bike ride a few years ago:  Isle of Bute

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/16/2020:
Were you hungry on the lower calorie days?

grannyannie on 07/16/2020:
I started getting hungry mid afternoon. But otherwise okay. And porridge in the morning lasts longer than toast and yogurt.

grannyannie on 07/16/2020:
But next week I'll do 1,000 every other day.

legcramps on 07/16/2020:
Your menu today looks delicious! Enjoy!

grannyannie on 07/16/2020:
Lunch was gorgeous! Mmmmm

Horn_of_plenty on 07/16/2020:
OMG! i want to go travel to the Isle of Bute to also go on a bike trail one day!

you seem to have a good appetite and ability to be satiated! jealous!

grannyannie on 07/16/2020:
It was tough not to give in and snack!

Isle of Bute is lovely. My husband used to teach there back in the '80s.

bearcountrygg on 07/16/2020:
I want your menu!!

grannyannie on 07/17/2020:
Lunch was yummy and dinner is always good (and healthy) because hubby makes it.

Yucky weather again today.  Need some sun!

Yesterday my oldest granddaughter turned 15.  Hard to believe.  I was extra generous with gifts this year for her and her sister whose birthday is August.  They will be missing their dad especially on their birthdays.

Reading a fascinating book so my workout today will be step aerobics for 15 mins, then I can get on my exercise bike for 30 minutes and read.

My shoulder is fine.  Only used the 0.5kg wrist weights doing my muscle work yesterday instead of dumbbells.  Tomorrow I might try doing some upper body muscle work using the wrist weights instead of dumbbells.

Menu:

B:  porridge w/raspberries, tea w/soy milk

S:  coffee with coconut milk - no quinoa bar

L:  6 veg salad with hummus, cheddar

D:  Thai green curry, tonic with slices of lime

S:  1 pack salted popcorn

Total: about 1,000 (maybe a bit less)

More garden photos: from the back

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/15/2020:
Happy birthday to your granddaughter. I hope she enjoys the gifts you sent.

A good book is a treasure. Enjoy!

grannyannie on 07/15/2020:
She got one of them a week ago - laptop and she loves it. Also got her a book which she got the day before her birthday. I can't believe how fast she's grown up, but then I only see her annually so never got to really watch her grow up.

Donkey on 07/15/2020:
And well done with the calories!!!!

grannyannie on 07/15/2020:
Proud of myself for sticking to it. Tomorrow I get higher calories! But next week will be 1,000 cals every other day.

bearcountrygg on 07/15/2020:
Happy birthday to the girls...one now...and one next month...I'm sure your gifts will be greatly appreciated.

grannyannie on 07/16/2020:
Thanks, I think they'll like the gifts.

grannyannie - Tuesday Jul 14, 2020

I did get hungry yesterday afternoon, but did not snack.

Plan for next week.  MWF 1,000 cals. Tu Th Sa 1300-1400 cals.  Sunday flexible - some alcohol if a garden party day - small amount if not.  5 days/week aerobics or muscle workout.

Went shopping today (masks are mandatory now and everyone wore one but who are these idiots who think it only has to cover your mouth FFS?). Bought some mixed nuts and mixed seeds to add on higher calorie days and will add some other fruit - banana, clementines.  Healthy stuff. However, I bought some cumberland sausages as a treat and will have one with lunch on some of the higher cal days.  And I love egg salad sandwiches and I have some bread in the freezer and will have that every couple of weeks.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge w/raspberries, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  coffee with coconut milk - no quinoa bar
  • L:  6 veg salad with hummus, cheddar
  • D:  Thai green curry, tonic with slices of lime
  • S:  1 pack salted popcorn

Total: about 1,000 (maybe a bit less)

Workout:

  • No upper body with dumbbells
  • 2 sets x 10 lower body with dumbbells (squats, lunges, calf lifts)
  • 2 sets x 10 bum and thighs with ankle weights
  • 2 sets abs, planks, push ups
  • jump rope 3 x 20

A photo in our garden.  Love the lillies!

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/14/2020:
Calorie plan sounds good!

Yes, there are some dolts who don't know how to wear a mask. Why is this so difficult?

grannyannie on 07/14/2020:
I know. It's common sense. I just read a post from a woman that said a 'scientist' said it was just as good to wear the mask under your nose. WTH?

legcramps on 07/14/2020:
Gosh, I just love your garden and that view! #goals

grannyannie on 07/14/2020:
I love it too! Hubby is the gardener. I love being next to water.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/14/2020:
wow! that's your garden? what waterway is that?

grannyannie on 07/15/2020:
That's just the front area - it's 1/2 acre. The water is a sea loch. Flows into the Atlantic about 20 miles away.

grannyannie - Monday Jul 13, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 166.8

Had a nice time at the garden gathering yesterday.

Plan for this week:  1,000 cals per day and one day higher cals.  NO alcohol.  Do either step aerobics or muscle work 5 days a week.  I’ll decide at the end of the week how well this is working.  Will probably go to 1,000 cals 3 days a week and 1500? the other days.

Step aerobics: 30 minutes

Menu:

  • B:  porridge w/blueberries, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  coffee with coconut milk - no quinoa bar
  • L:  salad (mixed dark leaves, cucumber, radish, tomato, celery, carrot, green pepper) fat free Italian dressing, hummus, cheddar
  • D:  veg & chicken curry, tonic water with slices of lime
  • S:  1 pack salted popcorn

Total: about 1,000

Photo of the day:  We went to Morocco for my 60th birthday in 2012.  Love the architecture!  And my weight was less than 130 with lots of muscle.

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/13/2020:
Good plan for the week!

Grannyannie on 07/13/2020:
Thanks. I have a diffe

Grannyannie on 07/13/2020:
Thanks. I have a different idea for next week but think I need to kick start things this week.

bearcountrygg on 07/13/2020:
I swear there is no food that beats blueberries......wonderful antioxidant ........

grannyannie on 07/13/2020:
I always buy blueberries, strawberries and raspberries.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/13/2020:
great goals, love to see all the veggies in your diet!

i love that photo, the colors are so vibrant! was it like that all over morocco?

grannyannie on 07/13/2020:
That place was kind of special - a village. But the architecture elsewhere was very nice.

grannyannie - Sunday Jul 12, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)

Not getting on the scale.  I feel motivated one minute and change the next.  I really need to stay motivated. I hate how I feel and how I look.

Today is our garden party - 3 couples - distancing.  I'm going to have wine and crisps.  But otherwise behaving.

No aerobics today - shoulder is a bit sore.

Goal for this week:  no alcohol until weekend if we meet up with friends.  Going to try to do 3 days with calories at 1,000 or a bit less.  Finishing off the bread for toast tomorrow morning, then it's porridge.

Met our new neighbours who bought a big house next door.  Couldn't move in because of lockdown but did so yesterday.  Really nice guys.

Menu:

  • B:  toast, blueberries, tea
  • S:  quinoa bar, coffee
  • L;  salad, pate, cheddar
  • S:  wine and crisps with friends
  • D:  veggie and chicken curry
  • S:  1 bag salted popcorn

Photo for today: this was on one of our long bikes a few years ago.

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/12/2020:
Oh I hope you are able to have your gathering!

I think I will switch back to oatmeal for breakfast during the week. Then on weekends, I can have my low-carb wraps with peanut butter.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure how I feel about how I look or feel with this extra weight. Hmm....

grannyannie on 07/12/2020:
We enjoyed our gathering - 3 couples. But it got too windy and cool but we had about 3 hours so that was good! I've never weighed this much before and I feel like a cow! Our wardrobe in our bedroom is nearly ceiling to floor mirrors!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/12/2020:
i support your trials and working towards keeping these promises of no beer for the week! keep on, we are all supporting you...

also, love, love, LOVE these photos. it's so nice to be able to see what other DDers see and live through your experiences. that bike trail looks divine! oh, how i'd loved to have biked it too!

grannyannie on 07/12/2020:
The bike trail is actually a single track road - we have loads of them. I need to meet my goals!

grannyannie on 07/12/2020:
Not a lot of traffic. Single track roads have many 'passing places' so when a car is coming straight at you from the other direction one of you pulls over.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/12/2020:
does the road get many vehicles on it?

grannyannie on 07/12/2020:
Not a lot. No traffic jams.

bearcountrygg on 07/12/2020:
Motivation has been lagging around here too.....but it will return for both of us!

grannyannie on 07/13/2020:
I hope so!
