(Clean eating - serious workouts)
Weight: 157.0

Scale movement - most is fluid I'm sure.  But I'll take it.

Serious housework today, finally getting everything sorted and put away for next trip.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/cinnamon/almond milk
  • L:  oatcakes and low fat cheddar, 2 clementines, yogurt
  • D:  mixed veg curry w/Quorn & basmati rice, salad
  • Tea w/soy milk, coffee w/almond milk, low cal tonic water, herbal teas, diet soda

Going into the city tomorrow to visit husband's uncle and take him out to lunch.  We are spending the night in the city - we thought we'd escape for the day and night as the electricity will be out in our area all day tomorrow (don't know why).  We will have both lunch and dinner at a chain restaurants/pub we always go to and which lists the calories for everything.

Will get on the exercise bike this afternoon and some ankle weight exercises.

Progress as of today: 10 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/08/2017:
Housework burns so many calories...especially scrubbing a tub! LOL. Makes me sweat! I do not clean near enough, but my apt does look organized. Just a bit dusty i am sure...

Congrats on the scale movement. Even if it's water weight, it's the start of further weight loss. Good lady!

For me, oatmeal - no matter what's in it - i def get hungry 3 hrs later if it's a nice big bowl with peanut butter and the works (like added protein powder too..)...i don't know...i am used to eating often so nothing works...

So how long are you satisfied from your oatmeal? I see you eat far less protein than me...so i'm trying to see how it works for you?

But also, if you want to feel more satisfied...maybe try for a hair more protein? Do you eat eggs?

Overall, your menu looks healthy to the max so keep it up! My advice is only because i like to give it (not sure if it's the right advice for you...)

Enjoy your night in the city (which city again...? i have the worst memory but i know you go often when you're home!)...i can't believe you are back home again! your vaca, for both you and me, went by at the speed of light. I hope next year the weather is more typical though...in Thai.

Enjoy your exercise this afternoon :-D

grannyannie on 03/08/2017:
Porridge keeps me mostly full about 4 hours. I did have cheese and the curry has Quorn which is protein. I do eat eggs - I like a fried egg sandwich for lunch. I can also add seeds to my salad which is high protein. Hubby also makes veggie chili often which has beans and Quorn so lots of protein. I'll be eating some meat tomorrow for probably both lunch and dinner. Most people eat far too much protein.

We go into Glasgow for our city trips.

Next winter we are not going to Thailand until January but there is almost no chance they'll have another Dec/Jan like last year. That was record breaking going back decades.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/08/2017:
I think i have a very finicky metabolism and that carbs affect me more than most. I think that whenever I eat carbs, the energy spike is higher & dips down lower than for most people, i think... always been this way.

Good idea for your Thai plans for next year. :-)

grannyannie on 03/08/2017:
Yea, I know protein sticks with us longer than carbs which is why you should have a high protein lunch when you want afternoon energy.

mylilsista on 03/08/2017:
Congrats on another loss! I love watching the numbers get lower (even if some weeks, the loss is minimal)! Keep up the good work! Great menu!

grannyannie on 03/09/2017:
Thanks. Mine have been going in the wrong direction for a year!

Donkey on 03/09/2017:
I hope you had fun in the city :-)

grannyannie on 03/10/2017:
I did!

Slowly getting back into my time zone.  I will catch up with your diaries soon.  Yesterday our friends invited us for dinner.  A few glasses of wine but otherwise healthy calories.

My shoulder now only has some minor twinges.  So today I will carefully do some dumbbells and will stop if it's painful.

My first goal is 149 lbs, then 139.

Challenges I'll have before we go to the US the end of May: spending a day and night in Glasgow this Thursday.  3 night trip to London the end of the month.  Stepdaughter's family visiting us for a few days around Easter.  My trip for 5 nights to Orkney.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/cinnamon/almond milk
  • L:  2 toast w/hummous, yogurt, grapes
  • D:  mixed veg curry w/Quorn & basmati rice, salad
  • Tea w/soy milk, coffee w/almond milk, low cal tonic water, herbal teas

Yeah...responding to your previous entry that pizza isn't gonna help diet and that i thought i responded on weekend saying how I also have had a tendency to overeat when my body clock is screwy after a vaca or anytime i'm lacking sleep...I reach for the energy...but learned to reach for caffeine... ;) instead which sometimes saves me...

Nice to see friends...by getting into a routine, it should in fact be sustainable. So including these get togethers and dinners should def be incorporated! :)

I am so glad your shoulder is getting better. It takes time, but injuries heal. Lately my back is sore...I think from a lot of extra sitting and not even stretching??????

If you want, on your trips...you can challenge yourself to pig out on veggies like i do....and eat the rest in moderation. Does NOT cause weight gain ;) ....Luckily i don't do Easter but we do celebrate Passover...but it's only 1 night, luckily.

grannyannie on 03/06/2017:
Hubby made the pizza and he doesn't use a lot of cheese, and does use lots of tomatoes and veggies. He did put on my sliced salami and we can't find pepperoni here. And the pizza isn't huge - just 4 slices.

We don't do a big Easter dinner, it's really just a good time together - easter goodies for grandson and our anniversary and grandson's 5th birthday is that week.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/06/2017:
Lots to celebrate about...it's true i shouldn't mock your pizza then...carbs are def necessary and healthy. :) you win ;)

Back home and been busy unpacking, doing laundry, etc.  On the scale.     Sleep is slowly getting back in my time zone.  But we're going to bed by 7:30 or 8 and getting up around 5.  Last night has a couple of beers and crisps.  But that's the end of that.

Still lots to do in the house, and still groggy but plan to start my home workout tomorrow.  The gym is STILL closed - since mid Sept but they claim it will open this month.  In the meantime I'll do my Tae Bo, dumbbells, etc.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raisins/cinnamon/almond milk
  • L:  toast w/low fat hummous, yogurt, grapes
  • D:  mixed veg curry w/Quorn & basmati rice, salad
  • Tea w/soy milk, coffee w/almond milk, low cal tonic water, herbal teas

Ugh, hubby is having fun using our new pizza maker and he made some more while I  was having lunch.  I was still very hungry so had some.  Body clock still messed up.  I wake up at 5am starving!

Been busy enjoying the last of our time on the island.  Also been packing up the house and the luggage.  Birthday today so extra treats.  I'll be back on after we get home and recover a bit from jet lag.  Then I'm getting serious!

Progress as of today: 11.6 lbs lost so far, only 6.4 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 02/26/2017:
Happy Birthday GA! Hope it's a good one for you!

Just curious what region of Thailand you're in. There's an Anthony Bourdain show on CNN later tonight on one specific region of Thailand.

Do you have a blog on this or any of your Thailand adventures by any chance?

As for politics as you mentioned in an entry awhile ago, in the US it seems like we're in Year 30ish (not day 30ish) of "The Donald" as prez! Somehow we'll get through this mini-crisis. The women's march the first weekend was a real shot in the arm.

Have a safe trip!

grannyannie on 02/26/2017:
It was good! We stay on the island of Koh Samui in a quieter area. I haven't been great about keeping up my blog this winter, but this is it: http://anniedannysamui.blogspot.co.uk/

I really hate being angry all the time about T! I'm doing my part though sending emails to my reps in the state where my vote gets counted.

Thanks. Leaving for airport. No such thing as calories on birthdays on when in transit.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/27/2017:
Oh cool you do have a blog! Totally gonna check it out!

I am very angry as well about T. I do feel he is wrong to lead us as I do not think he is a politician but someone with a very poor mentality to make good judgments - i feel he more just wants to get people to like him and that he enjoys creating anger and fear and storms amongst people. He is more for entertainment - and should have stayed in that industry and his own businesses rather than take up the business of being our commander. It's really unfortunate he won.

Happy Birthday.!!!! I hope you enjoy your 1x per year celebration! How wonderful!

I am going to look into flights to thailand. I was thinking Haiti, but the flight is $600 round trip and that's not a good price.

grannyannie on 03/02/2017:
Thanks. Had a good day! Yes, check out Thailand!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/27/2017:
plus haiti is pretty unsafe as far as sickness and health and all that. as well as safety...i think it's possibly risking too much for me to fly there...

museumgirl on 02/28/2017:
I'm late, but happy belated birthday!

grannyannie on 03/02/2017:
Thanks!

jayhawkjen on 03/02/2017:
I have never hated a president before... The Donald is killing me.

I'm going to check out your blog too.

grannyannie on 03/02/2017:
I've never hated anybody as much as I hate Trump!!!!!

Donkey on 03/03/2017:
Thank you for sharing your blog -- all the vacation pictures in one place! I especially liked the videos of the snokeling and fish feeding :-)

I don't think I wished you a happy birthday, so if I did not, please forgive me, and if I already did, well, then I wish you twice as happy :-)

grannyannie on 03/04/2017:
Thanks! I only put a few of my pics on my blog, the rest are on Facebook.

good luck packing...it always frustrates me to the core!

enjoy the new cottage discovery ... direct on beach is so beautiful Annie. It makes me smile :-D

enjoy your day and thanks for sharing nature and travel stories...today i'm thankful.

grannyannie on 02/21/2017:
I hate packing!!! We took a different airline this year and they give us less weight so I have to worry about that. Packing up the house is pretty easy, weight doesn't matter, just need to fit everything in.

Yea, I fell in love with the location when we had lunch and noticed 6 pretty little blue and white cottages. Will share pics.

Donkey on 02/21/2017:
I'm not ready for you to leave your holiday. Can't you stay another week? :-)

grannyannie on 02/21/2017:
Nope. Monthly rental! :) There will be more holidays this year - London, Orkney, the US.

I hope my favourite traveling trousers aren't too tight when we begin our journey home a week from tomorrow.  Oink.

We took a trip to the island capital for some gift shopping.  On the way home we stopped at a beachside restaurant that we've passed many times on the way to another beach restaurant (posh).  Glad we stopped.  What a great place to lounge around.  I talked hubby into booking it for one night this week - Weds.  We gave up on the idea of a posh resort for 2 or 3 nights for my birthday.  It just isn't worth it.  I can think of better things to do with $500+.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge & raisins, yogurt, banana
  • S:  cappuccino & toast
  • S:  I was hot from walking around shopping for the last of the gifts for family - mango smoothie - icy cold
  • L:  Thai omelette - lots of stuff in it like lemongrass and fried lime leaves, 1 sm beer
  • D:  probably stir fried veggies and tofu
  • S:  probably some light beer

grannyannie on 02/17/2017:
It was yummy and NOT low cal! I've got my work cut out for me when I get home!

Horn_of_plenty on 02/18/2017:
Oh...so my friend posted a quote today...i thought of you immediately. it's not only about actual traveling, but i still thought of you:

"It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive"

I was thinking it's about enjoying the process and not just the end goal....but you and your actual traveling struck a chord when i read it...haha.

grannyannie on 02/19/2017:
Planning is fun, but there isn't much planning in coming here. It's simply our winter home.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/18/2017:
oh, smart to take care of the shoulder as much as you can. you are being smart.

I think i'm being smart too - my weights have all increased in my lifting. It's a struggle, but i'm there...but i am being smart and know it'll take MONTHS for the next increase...and to enjoy now my struggles and soon ease with the 35lb dumbells for most of my exercises!

grannyannie - Wednesday Feb 15, 2017
(Clean eating - serious workouts)
Weight: 155.4

6 am bike ride with hubby this morning.  7 miles.  Will bike ride to dinner - about 6 miles.

My shoulder was getting better but now hurts again.  I better just stay away from dumbbells for upper body until we get home.

We leave here in 11 days.  So I'm thinking about packing up and when to do it.  We store lots of things here until next winter - household stuff, personal stuff, clothes, bicycles, etc.  3 big crates, one giant suitcase.  I am NOT looking forward to this trip home.  We took a different airline and were not happy with it.  Two of our flights are one hour, the middle flight will be 13 long hours!!  They did not feed us enough on the way here - thinking of snack ideas.  Always have a packet of M & M's.  Maybe cereal bars? Crackers?  Nuts?  I never ever count calories when in transit.

Hoping we can upgrade to at least premium economy when at the airport.  Can't do it online.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge & raisins, mango and banana
  • S:  sm cappuccino, small biscuits
  • L:  pasta, herbs, cashews, tofu, mango and ginger smoothie
  • D:  probably a stir fried chicken, veg and cashew dish
  • S:  Yes, I'm sure I'll have some light beer

Progress as of today: 11.6 lbs lost so far, only 6.4 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/16/2017:
yes, i was reading in an earlier entry that you had long flights...that is very long...good luck and make sure to stand up and walk as it's not good to sit so long....or sleep! :)

at least the other flights are short. i have been on a long flight like that 2x - to israel...was difficult and not fun lol.

grannyannie on 02/16/2017:
I get up at least every 60-90 minutes. And I can't sleep unless in Business Class. Longest flight ever was 14 hours from Australia to Dubai. Torture.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/17/2017:
But all trips are usually worth that torturous flight...yes, it frustrates me as well...!

grannyannie on 02/19/2017:
Yes, they are always worth it!!
