Made myself do a workout this morning. In my back room. Did 1 set of everything instead of 3 but I'll work up to that again.  Upper body with dumbbells, lower body with dumbbells, floor exercises with ankle weights, abs, planks. Then I did step aerobics using dumbbells and finally did some jump rope.  Feel like I accomplished something. 

I used to do a Tae Bo routine I'd choreographed to music myself (a 30 min or 45 min routine).  I compiled it from the DVDs of this workout which was popular in the 90's. It's really intense.  I picked out the moves I liked the best. I can't remember the routine as I haven't done it since I rejoined the gym 8 years ago (I turned 60 and got a good senior rate) and the playlist I'd compiled was on my old ipod which died. 

Not counting calories but watching that I don't go overboard.

Menu:

  • B: toast, porridge with strawberries, tea w/soy
  • S: coffee with coconut milk, quinoa bar
  • L: salad w/turkey breast pieces and cheddar, cottage cheese
  • D: leftover curry and small portion of rice with asparagus

At various times during the day I'll have one of more of - multigrain cracker with butter, popcorn, packet of baked crisps

Last night dh and I had a gin with diet tonic and lime and likely have the same tonight. No beer. 

Progress as of today: 1 lbs lost so far, only 23.6 lbs to go!

You did great! All you have to do is 1 set. You can build up to more sets later, but for now, getting restarted, all you need to do is one, and make it a habit.

I'm quite impressed that you did your own routines. I'm not so coordinated nor inspired. Tae Bo is an excellent workout! (I'm old enough to remember Billy Banks.)

I love the idea of having a cocktail with my husband. We usually go our separate ways after dinner.

I found some old DVDs of Billy Banks and picked out about 5 of the routines and put them together. Picked a song for each one by beat. Did them for years. Wish I still have the playlist it might bring it back. I can only remember 2 of the routines.

Hubby and I always watch tv together after dinner.

D:  veggie curry and small serving rice

S: packet of light popcorn

Didn't do well over the weekend.  Too much wine (at least it wasn't beer) and packets of crisps.  Counting calories is stressful right now so I'll just do my best to behave and get some exercise in every day. 

Got a mystery I think I can finish today so I'll get on my exercise bike until I'm done. 

Did click and collect at supermarket today and tomorrow I'll pick up what they didn't have online.

I'm really stressed because I mailed a very large check (why are there checks any more??) to my US bank 3 weeks ago today via track and sign.  Apparently Covid has slowed down the mail but it's been sitting in Los Angeles for 9 days! And before that sat in the UK for 12!

Plans:

  • B: toast/butter/jam, mutligrain crackers with butter, banana, blueberries, tea w/soy
  • S:  quinoa bar and coffee
  • L:  salad, hummus, cheddar, apple
  • D:  leftover curry
  • S:  whisky?  packet of baked crisps (I've ordered more packets of lite popcorn)

The mail here has had some issues....I have a sister in law and a great nephew who work for the post office in Detroit suburbs and there have been problems at the metroplex there...we have times where we don't get mail several days a week...and that rarely happens normally...then we get a whole pile all at once...so yes...we have mail issues.

Supposedly special mail isn't delayed, but that's not true. It say in London for 20 days first, the LA since May 30th. I don't know wny it went from NY to LA when the destination is Florida.

We have these metroplexes now...so sometimes our mail that is supposed to stay in Michigan...leaves michigan and comes back again.......what is happening here...is that if I drop a letter in the post office...and it is supposed to go to someone in our own town...it stays here...but...if I mail it from my own mailbox...it goes several hours south...and comes back to our town....things have changed here...it really doesn't seem very efficient.....i once mailed my son an overnight envelope...they charged me $16.95 and put it into a large cardboard container......he knew it was coming and was watching for it...while we were on the phone...he said the mail lady drove right by...we thought maybe someone else was going to deliver it...but no....so he went to the post office...they asked the mail lady...and it turns out she delivered it to the wrong house...had to retrieve it and got mad at my son because he contacted the post office...LOL

Lost a whole pound.  Better than gaining. 

Weather doesn't look good this weekend for a garden party.  So no excuse for drinking lots of beer and/or wine. 

Did a bit of extra snacking last night. 

Exercise bike.  30 mins x 1 or 2 1 or more sets of upper body dumbbells.

 

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/oat milk/ blueberries, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  Quinoa bar, coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  salad w/hummus, bacon, cheddar, apple
  • D:  veg & chicken curry (no rice)
  • S:  whisky (optional)

Total:  1313

Was looking for some inspiration and went back to a post here from 8 years ago today.  It was the year I turned 60 and I had joined the year before in order to get support to do it.  It worked!  Anyway, I weighed 129.2 on that day and I felt amazing and healthy and fit.  I don't want to weight than now, I'll be good with 145, even better with 140.  No less.

Keeping my 3kg dumbbells (still careful with shoulder injury I had for so long so haven't used heavier ones) so I can pick them up a few times a day and do a set of upper body while watching tv.  I have ankle weights that I have occasionally worn walking around the house.  Might do that more often. 

Exercise bike.  30 mins x 2

Menu:

  • B:  soy yogurt and blueberries, toast/butter/jam, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  Quinoa bar, coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  salad w/hummus, bacon, chicken, cottage cheese
  • D:  Thai curry (no rice)
  • S:  whisky, cheddar

Total:  1351

That is a good idea to keep the small dumbbells nearby...I should do that too. I put D's hand exerciser near his chair and he uses it...but never thought to do that for myself...

Didn’t feel like salad for lunch so having a burger. 

Menu:


B:  toast/butter/jam, plain soy yogurt w/strawberries, 2 tea w/soy milk

S:  Quinoa bar, coffee with coconut milk

L:  burger on roll with cheddar, mayo, tomato, packet of crisps, and 2 mini cucumbers

D:  Thai curry (no rice)


Total:  1510


Exercise?  Will at least do some dumbbells. Going to dust and hoover the master bedroom.

I feel better when I do some housework or a good workout or even both. The burger was delicious! Had to have for lunch as hubby would not see that as dinner. He's my chef and makes healthy dinners with lots of veggies.

We have our main meal at noon...( hamburgers are ok with us here)...and then we each just find something in the late afternoon or evening......the older we get...the less formal meals we have....and that really may not be so good.

Hubby always makes a big pot of some type of curry or soup or chili which lasts 3 days. I make the rice. If we have guests he will BBQ and he'll eat burgers etc. He can't eat wheat so no bun.

I didn’t get on my exercise bike yesterday, but felt like I got a semi-workout cleaning the 2 bathrooms. 

Had a bit extra so went up to 1500 cals.  That’s what I’ve set as my maximum.  I can’t even guess how many calories I was getting before in order to maintain this weight - I'm sure some days were at least 3,000.

 

I’ll definitely get on the bike today. I'll at least do upper body with dumbbells and maybe I'll feel inspired to do more.

 

Got talked into going 'around the block' on our bikes.  Around our block is almost exactly 20 miles. Nice but hard work.  I felt I deserved to sit on the patio when we came home and have some beer (1 pint total) and a packet of baked crisps.  

 

Menu:

 

  • B:  porridge w/oat milk and raspberries, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  Quinoa bar, coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  salad w/cheddar, hummus, cottage cheese
  • S:   beer and 2 packets of baked crisps
  • D:  Thai curry (no rice)
  • S:  whisky and water (optional)

 

Total:  1278 1480

To remain active is the goal. Sitting, for extended periods, is not so good. Cleaning a shower or tub can definitely give you a workout! So can floor scrubbing if you do not use a mop.

Kept to my plan yesterday except I didn't do any muscle work, just exercise bike.

Grocery shopping this morning.  Arrived at 7:15 am.  No waiting. But all the produce was not yet on the shelves so it was a bit hard to get around. 

Going to clean the bathrooms today. Trying to do some kind of housework every day (aside from kitchen and laundry). 

Menu:

  • B:  toast/butter/jam, plain soy yogurt w/fresh raspberries & Stevia, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  Quinoa bar, coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  salad w/liver pate, hummus
  • D:  veggie and chicken curry (no rice)
  • S:  whisky and water, packet of popcorn

Total:  1268

Exercise:

Getting on exercise bike for 30 mins x 2.  Good spot to read a book.  Might do muscle work.

I'm horrified and disgusted by what's going on over in the US!  Not really surprised though as it's been waiting to happen and has been fueled by a certain person.  I'm worried about my nephew who lives in DC and has been in the peaceful protests.

I really like your popcorn idea. I have those 100 calories bags in the pantry. Something comforting about a nighttime snack.... The carbs would probably help me with sleep, too.

Our country is in such a sad state. November can't come soon enough.

Haven't been doing well. I belong to the Yellow Hearts of Remembrance group on FB for those who lost a loved one to Covid. It's depressing to see so much misery and grief, including my own.  I don't know how supportive I can be here, but I'll do my best.  

Went to 2 garden parties on Sat and Sun.  Tried to stay 2 metres or more apart, but slipped a bit the more alcohol we all had.  

But today is June 1st and I've decided it's time to start counting calories again.  Weekend garden parties I'll do alcohol, but figured I need to allow myself some during the week as well.  Only a shot of whisky with water - 56 cals, no carbs.  And I will allow myself a treat, but I plan to keep my daily intake to under 1500.  

Menu:

  • B:  porridge, blueberries, oat milk, tea w/soy milk
  • S:  Quinoa bar, coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  bacon and egg roll, packet of baked crisps
  • D:  leftover curry, no rice
  • S:  popcorn, whisky and water

Total:  1362 cals

Exercise bike:  60 mins total, some muscle work?

One thing I can't find any more in the supermarket is Quorn pieces and mince (vegetarian) which hubby uses in curries and chilis. So I've been buying boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead (chicken breast is too dry).  Or he uses chickpeas or other beans. Sometimes tofu.

Many people where I live take the ferry over to the city and do their shopping - bigger stores, lower prices, more variety. But they can't do that now as you have to prove that your travel over is essential.  So that means everybody is shopping in the same 2 stores. 

Plans for today:

  • B:  toast, mixed fruit, tea with soy milk
  • S:  coffee with coconut milk, quinoa bar - (cacao and salted caramel)
  • L:  7 veg salad, hummus, ham
  • D:  Leftover Massaman curry w/ small serving of rice
  • S:  packet of popcorn, will try to be satisifed with diet coke to drink

I'll choose a household chore from my list to do today.  Probably clean one or both bathrooms.  Need to make a list of exercises to do every day - even if it's just doing stretches.
