(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 169.2

Friends dropped by to show us their new wheelchair-friendly vehicle. So they stayed for drinks sitting outside. And I shared most of a bottle of rose’ with the wife.  So that throws my calories off. There goes my pb and honey sandwich I was planning on sometime this week. I really should have given the wife the wine and had her take the rest of the bottle home. And I could have had something else. Next time.

Did a total of 60 mins on the exercise bike yesterday in two sets and will do the same today.  I’m really anxious to get back to muscle work but I don’t dare until I’m totally pain free.

It feels like I'm wearing a corset which is way too tight. Not sure why. I haven't had that kind of pain for a couple of weeks. Rest day.

If anyone is interested in trying Thai dishes (not just curries) this woman gives excellent tips and recipes:

https://www.youtube.com/user/PailinsKitchen

  • B: porridge w/raspberries and blueberries, tea w/soy
  • S: coffee w/coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad w/chicken breast, cheddar
  • D:  Thai green curry with chicken
  • S:  packet of popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Total:  1117 (2383 remaining for the week)

Our trees are just starting to turn colour here but when they do I'll share some photos.  But here's a sunrise from earlier this week taken from our front porch.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 24.2 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/24/2020:
I will check out that website...Thanks! That sky....gorgeous!

grannyannie on 09/24/2020:
Yes! Took more pics this morning but weren't as good as this one.

She has tons and tons of videos and she's really good at teaching.

Donkey on 09/24/2020:
What an odd sensation that must be! I have a back wrap that is like a corset, that I wear when my back starts complaining. It helps me "reset" my posture (back & hips). But if I wear it too long or too tight (or both), then it's very uncomfortable. Do what you're feeling must be terribly unpleasant.

What to say about the wine... well, and this is just my opinion, I think it's worth it, if you had a good visit with your friend. Could you plan the remainder of your calipers for the week, per day, so that you can keep an overage to a limit or minimum?

grannyannie on 09/24/2020:
I had the feeling about a really tight corset before so it went most of the way around me. I think what did it is that when I was doing the bike I'd lean on the handelbars when I was trying to go uphill at a harder rate.

I've decided to increase my limit by 200 calories a week. I guess it won't be a big deal if I should go over occasionally but not routinely.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
thanks again for reminding me that i could learn to cook thai style!

i am having thai takeout tonight because of a REALLY great coupon! by doing pickup, there's some really extraordinary coupons that i keep getting in my email!

um, that nice you got to see friends and enjoy the time outside and with a rose! You can still have your pb and honey later this week...enjoy yourself :)

grannyannie on 09/25/2020:
What Thai dish did you get?

(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 169.2

Yesterday I planned to do 30 mins exercise bike, clean the bathrooms, then 30 more minutes. However, as this was the first time I’ve scrubbed the tub since getting injured, I got lower back pain from all that bending (not the injured part), so didn’t do the second set.

I’ll do 2 sets today. No houswork. Did 30 mins, then some laundry and came back and did 30 more. Felt like a really good workout doing a total of 60 mins.

I’m attaching photos of two choices for female-friendly bike seats. I’ve got one similar to the wider one on my bike in Thailand.  Many bike seats don’t cause butt pain, they cause pain elsewhere, IYKWIM.  I know many women who say they don’t like to bike ride because of discomfort due to the seat.

  • B: porridge w/raspberries and blueberries, tea w/soy (I had ordered far too many berries so having extra blueberries every day)
  • S: coffee w/coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad w/chicken breast and apple
  • D:  Thai green curry with chicken
  • S:  packet of popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Total:  1093 (3887 left of the week)

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 24.2 lbs to go!

jacky82020 on 09/23/2020:
Good choices, I got an extra wide seat for the Schwinn Spinner. It is not as wide as the name suggests! But better.

grannyannie on 09/23/2020:
I have one similar to the top photo on my Thailand bike. My bike at home is the one that bike came with and it doesn't bother me until I've riding an hour or more and all I do is stand up and pedal for a few minutes and it's fine.

bearcountrygg on 09/23/2020:
Are your curries usually spicy...I'm really not familiar with curry but would like to try them.

grannyannie on 09/23/2020:
Husband makes them and he makes the sauces. I like medium spicy so he doesn't make them too hot (although sometimes he goes overboard with the chilis. There are tons of different curries - Indian, Thai, etc. The one we are eating today is a green curry soup so uses green veggies and a green sauce. You can make them as mild or hot as you like. Lots of veggies, meat or other protein, and a sauce.

grannyannie on 09/23/2020:
Hubby makes a huge pot and we have leftovers for the following 2 or 3 days.

Donkey on 09/23/2020:
Some chores hurt my back too! Problem is, I'm never quite aware of the pain until it's too late.

The bike ride afterwards - did that help your back pain? I'm thinking that's something I should consider for myself in the future...

I know what you mean about the bicycle seat, lol...

grannyannie on 09/23/2020:
I didn't ride yesterday after cleaning. And I don't feel the back pain until I'm done cleaning. But today was no problem.

Hubby has a male saddle!

legcramps on 09/23/2020:
I like the second one best. I always find the open part in the middle to be my deciding factor. As long as I have some room there for my lady parts, the rest of the seat doesn't seem to matter too much. If it's too big and squishy, it will make it uncomfortable for the rest of your body to ride on it (think about the way your legs move, your hips, your shoulders, etc), which might be worse for your back in the long run.

Butt pain is something that will get better as you ride more frequently - same as me right now with getting back on my bike at home. My seat is horrible though, and I would trade with your #2 choice any day! I guess I should look into that LOL.

grannyannie on 09/23/2020:
My exercise bike is awful and it does hurt my butt. But most bike seats seem to hurt lady parts. You can ride forever on a comfy seat!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
Yes, i can see why some women won't bike ride...i get pain after not riding for awhile and then going for a ride. but, i feel the exercise is worth that pain since the pain does go away eventually!

nice seats. i don't have anything to add since i'm not to familiar with all the types of bike seats / styles out there but legs would have good input for you!

nice job on getting back into exercise! remember when this was far from your mind!?!?!?!?

grannyannie on 09/23/2020:
Yes, I remember when the idea of just moving was too much!

I actually ride my real bike for pleasure, not exercise. Exercise is just an extra benefit.

grannyannie - Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 169.2

Did 30 minutes on exercise bike yesterday. After 30 minutes this seat gets too painful. I might try doing it twice as I have before. I need to clean the bathrooms today, so might do bike, then clean, then do bike again.

Today is pick up groceries day - my adventure for the week. Ordered online and just have to pick them up.

  • B: porridge w/berries, tea w/soy
  • S: coffee w/coconut milk
  • L:  egg salad sandwich
  • D:  Burmese curry with 1 egg on top
  • S:  packet of popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Total:  1177 (4980 remaining for the week)

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 24.2 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
I have an online order going at Walmart for a Friday pickup. I had 5% off inside using Walmart Pay for one year. Gone. Now have to do online & pickup to save the 5%. Will still go inside for my day old yellow tag specials. That 5% adds up! What with pet dogs, cats & birds. Buy seed for wild birds too.

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
Our local store didn't have online ordering or collecting although all their stores in the cities has that. But they started it because of Covid in May? I think. Very convenient.

My sister lives in the US and she says she has to pay for delivery. She is surprised it is free here.

Been a long time since I had a pet but I know pet food adds up quickly!

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
They’ve had at store pickup for a while. Did it twice because they offered $10 off on a $50 order, so one in my name and another in the husband’s. They gave us really nice gift bags full of good stuff. The Walmart home delivery service is about $10 a month or $99 a year. I like getting out once a week.

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
I think my sister pays $9 per delivery which sounds high to me. If they keep this pickup after Covid is gone I still intend to do it - although I will go inside the store too. My nearest town has 1 major store (but not a superstore) and a medium sized which I don't like. That's it. Many people here take the ferry over to the city and do a big shopping. Cheaper. Can't do it now though.

Donkey on 09/22/2020:
I sometimes break up my bike rides into 2 sessions. I feel that I get more performance from 2 shorter sessions than 1 long session. However, I do single sessions, too, as there are benefits to those as well.

I've mentioned the pickup option to husband, especially for Walmart, but he says orders are like a week out. Not sure if he's checked recently...

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
If my bike had a more comfy seat I'd do it for an hour.

I ordered delivery when they first started it here but then decided I should leave those slots for those without a car and the elderly. Pickup is just as safe. I never tried to start my order the day before so don't know if the slots are full by then. I usually start my order on Friday for Tues pickup and edit it about 4 or 5 times!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
when you say trying it twice, do you mean cutting the 30min session in half? that's a good idea.

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
No, 30 mins, take a break and do 30 more mins. Although today I did the 30 minutes then cleaned both bathrooms and when I was done my lower back hurt (forgot how I that always happened by bending so long). I hadn't cleaned the tub/shower since I hurt myself.

bearcountrygg on 09/22/2020:
I break up exercise into 2 or even more groups sometimes......it works...I still see the benefit.

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
When I'm pain free (soon!) I'll get back to step aerobics and very light weights, jump rope and sometimes do the bike.

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
The Walmart pickup must depend on where you live. My friend in NY said it was a long wait, but that was months ago, don’t know if it’ changed. I started my grocery list Sat. or Sunday & add more everyday. All the slots were open. They even had an early one for elderly/disabled. Think it was 8AM

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
My sister orders from Costco. We don't have any Walmarts in Scotland and I don't remember seeing any Walmarts around my sister's house.

legcramps on 09/22/2020:
My bike seat is the same, it's not very comfortable. Sometimes I put a blanket or towel underneath myself and that helps a little bit!

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
I've tried a thin pillow but didn't help. The seat on my real bike is comfy and I can ride that for hours.

innerpeace on 09/22/2020:
That is the main reason I don't ride my bike - it hurts by butt! I have used instacart the last month, I absolutely love it. I may never shop again.

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
Only my exercise bike has a seat that hurts. Real bike is good. They make female friendly bike seats now. I'll post a photo of one tomorrow.

I'm getting spoiled by click and collect. But I would prefer to choose my own mushrooms and berries and tomatoes.

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
Loved Costco when I loved in California. None around here

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
Oh, I thought they were everywhere over there. We only have one here but very inconvenient for us - it's in the city.

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
The nearest ones are over 100 miles away, two in Ohio and one in Pittsburgh. Sam’s Club is here, a Walmart version of Costco. Not worth the membership fee.

Didn't get on exercise bike yesterday but did a very thorough cleaning of living/dining room, kitchen and laundry room.  So I felt like I did a workout! Will do 30  mins on exercise bike today.

There is a possibility we can go to Thailand this winter. In October the Thai government will decide if they will allow a certain number of tourists who plan to stay for at least 90 days (we always do 90 days and our usual house is booked for Jan to Mar). You have to have a Covid test that is negative, and quarantine for 14 days on arrival in an approved facility. You can’t leave your hotel room for 7 days and then must stay on the hotel grounds. This would mean wearing a mask on the plane and you can take off only to eat/drink.

I hate the idea of staying here in winter. We get little or no snow but it feels very cold as we get high winds, cold rain, and the days are very, very short.  We haven’t been here an entire winter since 2012.

B: porridge w/berries, tea w/soy

S: coffee w/coconut milk

L:  6 veg salad, chicken breast, cheddar

D:  a curry with eggs? Burmese curry made with black beans, veg and topped with poached eggs

S:  packet of popcorn, spicy hot chocolate (one brand I bought is really good the other will blow your head off!)

Drinks: diet tonic, or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Total:  1206 (6157 remaining for the week)

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 10.2 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/21/2020:
I hope you can get to Thailand this winter Annie........Lots of restrictions but if it is more enjoyable than staying home than it's a good plan!

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
Except for a few people in quarantine (Thais returning from abroad) there are no cases as far as I can tell. We'd be totally safe. We'd have to wear a wristband the entire time showing we were Covid free. I could easily deal with 2 weeks of boring quarantine to spend 10 weeks there!!

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
There is no lockdown there and the island where we stay has had few cases and no deaths. We could move around freely. Thai government is going to restrict the number of tourists they will allow in.

Jacky82020 on 09/21/2020:
Wow! Thailand! How exciting! My friend had to take a covid test for a colonoscopy.

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
We've been spending every winter there (3 months) for 7 years.

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
I was supposed to book a colonoscopy when we came home from Thailand in March, but then lockdown and I had no desire to go anywhere near a hospital.

Donkey on 09/21/2020:
It would definitely be worth any precautions if it allowed you to travel to Thailand. I remain hopeful that you'll be able to make it!

When you're ready for a bike ride, you'll know it. It's coming soon! Yay!

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
Exercise bike is easy since I don't lean on the handlebars.

I'm nervous about getting on my real bike!

Yes, Thailand is our winter home and I hate to miss it!

jacky82020 on 09/21/2020:
Never did a colonoscopy. Did cologuard. The insurance pays down to age 45 now.

Saw article in Washington Post re Thailand officials mailing trash left at National parks back to the littering ppl. And hefty fines. Weird how they know who left it.

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
We do the annual test we get in the mail - like cologuard I guess. But can also get colonsocopy. I'm in the UK so everything is 'free'.

I hate people who litter! They should be given huge fines.

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
Looked up the article about litter and you have to give your address when you use the national parks.

jacky82020 on 09/21/2020:
Oh, very interesting, Annie

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
Yes!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2020:
Well...cleaning the house def burns calories! :)

when i clean the shower, oh, it's a workout for sure!

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
Yea, dusting, moving things around to hoover, washing kitchen floor, etc is a workout. Cleaning bathroom especially tub/shower is a workout!

legcramps on 09/21/2020:
Well the possibility of travel to Thailand certainly gives you something to look forward to!

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
Yes, it does. I hate the idea of not going to our winter home! Same house, same people, same restaurants.

grannyannie - Sunday Sep 20, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 169.2

Had a lovely afternoon yesterday with 2 couples - socially distant. Brought wine for me and beer for hubby and I always bring a bottle of wine for our hostess.

Doubt we’ll get another sunny and warm weekend like this so no idea when I’ll have alcohol again.  Not riding my bike yet so I walked about 1.5 miles roundtrip to their house.

Starting my weekly calorie allowance like Bear does. I figure that 8,400 is good (averaging 1,000 x 3 days, 1200 x 2 days, 1500 x 2 days).

Weight this morning:  169.2 (up from Friday)

  • B: porridge w/berries, tea w/soy
  • S: coffee w/coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad, chicken breast, apple
  • D:  veg and chicken curry
  • S:  packet of popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic, or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea
  • Total: 1037 (7363  left for the week)

Exercise bike this afternoon.  No muscle work until I am pain free. Getting close. Doing housework today while hubby is outside cutting the grass and trimming.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 10.2 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 09/20/2020:
Your menus always sound good. I will have to try coffee with coconut milk. Been adding chocolate protein drink.

grannyannie on 09/20/2020:
It's great with coconut milk. Hubby puts coconut milk on his porridge but I put oat milk. And soy in my tea.

bearcountrygg on 09/20/2020:
I'm excited to see you onboard.....I think you will like it! Plenty of room for higher as well as lower cal days with no guilt!!

grannyannie on 09/20/2020:
I've done my plans for the week and by Saturday I'd extra calories to use - planning on pb and set honey on a slice of bread - so I can have that when I have a hungry day.

Donkey on 09/20/2020:
Oh, I'm very interested to see how the weekly calorie plan works for you!!!

I hope your ride on the exercise bike is pain-free and enjoyable. See, you're making steps towards a full recover. That's wonderful! I do agree with you though, no workout unless pain-free. ABSOLUTELY.

That's rather sobering to think that you may not have another warm-ish weekend until next Spring. Winter is coming!

grannyannie on 09/20/2020:
I did heavy duty housework today and felt I'd had a good workout, so skipped the bike. I'm so anxious to get back to step aerobics and light weights! But not yet. (possible we might be able to to Thailand as planned!) Winter in our area is cold, windy, rainy, and dark. Very little snow.

Weight: 168.4

Gorgeous day yesterday (and today). Hubby went out kayaking from in front of our house and got some nice photos that I’m sharing here. I didn’t walk but wandered outdoors for a while to enjoy the sun and did exercise bike for 30 mins.

Upper 60’s and sunny today. So we are visiting friends outdoors for a 'cocktail party'. I'll bring wine. No snacks.

  • B: porridge and berries, tea w/soy
  • S: coffee w/coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad w/chicken breast and cheddar, clementine
  • Garden party with friends.  Wine.  Will try to avoid any salty snacks if someone brings some.
  • D:  veg and chicken curry
  • Drinks: diet tonic, or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Progress as of today: 2.6 lbs lost so far, only 9.4 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/19/2020:
Beautiful pics Annie!

grannyannie on 09/19/2020:
Thanks. Hubby gets credit for these. Taken from his kayak.

Donkey on 09/19/2020:
Oh how lovely! If I lived near water, I would get myself a kayak, too! Mistakes Girl lives about a block away from the town lake, and she does that.

(Do you ever have to worry about your house flooding? That's my greatest fear about living near water.)

The cocktail party sounds lovely! Very spirit- lifting! (No pun intended)

grannyannie on 09/19/2020:
No chance of ever flooding here. Our house is slightly uphill plus this a sea loch and flows into the Atlantic about 20 miles away. So the ocean would have to rise first. I love living on the water.

Had a great afternoon. Another couple came that we hadn't seen in a while. She's American and he's English and they live just down the road.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/19/2020:
thank you for sharing your beautiful photos <3

also, 30 minutes on the bike already!? go you!!!!

grannyannie on 09/20/2020:
Exercise bike doesn't involve my bike - so very easy!

grannyannie on 09/20/2020:
Oops, I mean my back.

I was curious so got on the scale this morning. Lost 2.6 lbs since Sunday! Some will be water weight of course, but that's okay. I will weigh myself again on Sunday morning.

Went for a walk yesterday - 3 miles. It was a gorgeous day and I stopped and took a photo.

Tomorrow is to be upper 60's and sunny so I hope to get together with friends for a garden gathering. That means wine or beer (only time I make an exception to my no alcohol rule). But I’ll be starting my weekly calorie allowance on Sunday.

B: porridge and berries, tea w/soy

S: coffee w/coconut milk

L:  6 veg salad w/chicken breast and cheddar, apple

S: pack of popcorn

D:  veg and chicken curry

Drinks: diet tonic, or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

30 mins on exercise bike or go for another walk

Hey, congrats! Great loss And lovely pic.

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
Thanks!

bearcountrygg on 09/18/2020:
Nice loss!!! What a beautiful place!!

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
Thanks. Love it here. Water and mountains and forest. Only thing missing is one of the white sandy beaches they have further west of us.

innerpeace on 09/18/2020:
So beautiful. I started taking pictures of my walks too. I find peace in my walks. Have a great weekend!

When I was in Saudi Arabia, I remember it getting light very early too, made it hard to sleep late on the days I actually could.

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
Lots of great places to walk were as well - along the shore or in the woods.

We have very dark drapes in our bedroom to clock out the sun. Otherwise it will hit us right in the eyes about 4:30ish.

Donkey on 09/18/2020:
Well done! A 3 mile walk is quite impressive! No soreness?

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
I didn't do it at power walk speed, just faster than a stroll. So it was tiring but didn't get sore. I am sooooooo out of shape from sitting for 6+ weeks.

Maria7 on 09/18/2020:
Congratulations to you! Pretty photo, too! Have a happy day!

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
Thanks Maria!

legcramps on 09/18/2020:
Great job on the walk! So glad you weren't sore and didn't feel any pain! SCORE!

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
I'm slowly getting there!

grannyannie - Thursday Sep 17, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 171.0

My new recliner got delivered yesterday instead of today! I can sit in it without pain in my back (as long as I don't turn to left to talk to hubby), so I can give up sitting in the dining room chair!

Got my ballot by email yesterday, so I’m going to mail it this morning. Hope the USPS is working well enough to get it there before Nov 3rd! Used to take a week from UK to US. But not now.

I found a goal. I always use upcoming trips to motivate me to lose but no idea when our next trip is. So I’m going to use Nov 3rd.  I always stay up all night for big elections - both US and UK.  It’s also a good excuse to have forbidden snacks and beer. So that’s just less than 7 weeks. It’s very reasonable to have under 160 as a goal.

I’ll do 30 minutes on the exercise bike again. I can attach my kindle to the display with rubber bands so I can read while doing it. I did 35 minutes yesterday because I wanted to get to the end of a chapter.

It is so sunny and mild out I think I'll walk after lunch instead. I've got the book I'm reading on Audible as well, so I'll begin where I left off while I walk!

  • B: porridge and berries, tea w/soy

Great that you can sit in the new recliner...we LOVE ours!!

grannyannie on 09/17/2020:
Yes! And I'm back sitting in the front window with a better view of the water. I love that is has cup holders in it as well and front pockets for phone and kindle.

Donkey on 09/17/2020:
Vote early!

How nice to have the recliner! I'm glad it brings you much relief.

Good goal too!

grannyannie on 09/17/2020:
Thanks! I was surprised to get the ballot already as I thought they'd email it to me on Saturday. Glad I got it mailed!

Maria7 on 09/17/2020:
I hear motivation talking and yes, you can do it, Annie. I am so happy for you that your very much needed recliner arrived and much better for you to sit on than dining room chair. Bless your heart. Take care.

grannyannie on 09/17/2020:
The sofa hurt my back, the other chairs hurt my back, but the recliner is good if I don't recline it back too much. The dining room chair has a straight back which was what I needed with a thin cushion on the back.

Yes, motivation!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/17/2020:
I do think it will arrive in good time by USPS! :) nice to hear you are exercising your right to vote!

also, your breakfast sounds delish with the berries :)

grannyannie on 09/18/2020:
I always vote! Even from Uganda I voted!

I miss toast but porridge and berries is yummy and sticks to the ribs!

Something I sent in May too more than a month to arrive and I sent it track and trace. So I sent this regular international mail and I have well over a month, so should be fine.

(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 171.0

Getting on exercise bike today - shouldn't cause any pain but if it does I'll stop.  If the sun comes out I might also go for a walk.  I won't try any muscle work until I'm pain free for a few days.

Edit:  Did 35 minutes on the bike - no problem. I don't hold on to the handles anyway.

Recliner is being delivered tomorrow so I’ll put the chair and footstool that it’s replacing in the guest room for now.  Or I’ll get hubby to.

I picked up our groceries yesterday and when I unpacked them found 2 packs of pig kidneys that I definitely had not ordered. We weren’t charged for them either, so got someone else’s.  Wasn’t going to drive all the way back to town, so hubby cooked them to put in a curry today.  He liked it, but when he gave me a taste I spit it out in the trash. Yuck!  I told him I won’t eat any curry he puts it in so he’ll figure out how to have it in just his and not mine.

Edit:  Husband took the kidneys to the beach and fed the seagulls.  I could hear them!  They were very happy!

B: porridge and berries, tea w/soy

S: coffee w/coconut milk

L:  6 veg salad w/chicken breast and cheddar, clementine

D:  veg and chicken curry (without kidneys!)

S: pack of popcorn

Drinks: diet tonic, or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 26 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/16/2020:
Don't blame you...I wouldn't eat kidneys either.......When an animal in the wild kills another animal they do eat the insides first...apparently because that is where the highest nutrition is...but we have vitamins for that....yuck!

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
I was served liver 2 or 3 times when we lived in Uganda, and was very surprised to really like one of the times - not sure how she cooked it. Anyway, hubby is feeding the kidneys to the seagulls on the beach!

Organs are great for iron but I'm just fine!

bearcountrygg on 09/16/2020:
YAYYYY Win for the seagulls!!!!

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
Haha! And for me!

bearcountrygg on 09/16/2020:
I liked liver...occasionally...but haven't had it for quite awhile...I ordered it in a restaurant the last time I had it......and at first it looked okay...and when I cut it...it was raw inside and the plate filled up with blood......( I NEVER SEND FOOD BACK IN A RESTAURANT)...too many horror stories about what they do with it out of anger.....so....I had to that time because it wasn't edible and was swimming in blood that threatened to overflow the plate......so when i called the server over...he agreed it was not right...they did cook it more and i had to accept any result....I did eat a small amount...but haven't ordered it since and haven't cooked any myself....i think I'm over it now....I have had liverwurst ( braunswager or how ever you spell it)since and that settles the desire for liver for me.

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
I never tried it as I'd always heard it tasted like baked mud. So first time I ate it was at age 57 in Uganda. When Ugandans ask you to dinner at their home it's very insulting to turn something down. The time I liked it we were given a plate of meat as a starter, and I started eating it and wasn't sure but thought it was liver. It was delicious. So I asked and it was.

Most of the time we'd be given BBQd goat which I loved.

bearcountrygg on 09/16/2020:
Liver has an unusual consistency....and I used to like it with onions...and a little mustard.....the thing that also bothers me about liver is that it filters the bad things from the body...the kidneys are the same thing.....so as time went by..I decided also that maybe I shouldn't be eating some animals filters...LOL I can see why it was easy to eat it for the first time..not knowing....

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
Won't be trying any more organs!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/16/2020:
pig kidneys!? how odd!

i'm glad something enjoyed them!

Great job on the bike!

I'm planning to get out soon also...walking to the close-by pharmacy!

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
Steak and kidney pie is popular here, but it's not something I'd try. Steak pie, yes.

I'll walk if the sun comes out.

(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 171.0

Going to pick up groceries today (park in designated spot in car park and they bring them out and put them in car). Back felt only a wee bit sore when I tried sitting in the car.  I’ve been sitting in a dining room chair with a small cushion for my back and 2 for butt for 6 weeks as sitting in any other chair was painful and is now just sore.

I won’t be going back to the gym for a long time - I don’t feel it’s safe. So I’m thinking about more equipment to have at home in addition to dumbbells, jump rope, step, and a basic exercise bike.  I’d like an elliptical but it looks like I’d have to pay a lot to get a decent one.  At least £500+ and not sure I want to spend that. I just ordered a recliner chair and have been doing a LOT of shopping on Amazon for many months.

  • B: toast x 2, bowl of fresh fruit, tea w/soy (last toast and have put away the toaster)
  • S: coffee w/coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad w/chicken breast and cheddar
  • D:  veg and chicken curry
  • S: pack of popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic, or iced tea, or low cal fruit drink, lots of water, occasional diet pop, tea

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 26 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/15/2020:
Glad to hear that the car ride worked out for you.......Love our recliners...he reclines...I sit on one leg...bad old habit that I can't seem to break. I also do a lot of Amazon shopping online.....I find the home gym pieces to be so worthwhile...time savers, and amazingly handy for those quick urges to go to and then back to other things.

grannyannie on 09/15/2020:
Back was fine driving the 20 miles roundtrip. Just a wee bit sore where the spot hit the seat. But I've decided 5 hours in the car this week to scatter ashes would likely be too much. Hope for next week.

I saw some ellipticals for £300 or less but they don't look that sturdy. I plan to be tough on it so it has to stand up! I'm sure the ones at the gym cost many thousands £££££££.

grannyannie on 09/15/2020:
It's going to be tough seeing the recliner and I can't sit it yet! It's being delivered Thursday.

Maria7 on 09/15/2020:
Online shopping is the 'way to go' these days, although I do go in stores a little (w mask and gloves on). I hope you are much better soon, Annie.

grannyannie on 09/15/2020:
We don't have a lot of shops around us so even without the virus we do a lot of Amazon. Found that 'click and collect' is working very well now, so no need to go inside the store. Just order online and pick a time and date, then park outside store and they bring it out. But if I need to go in I always wear my mask.

I'm about 95% better now.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2020:
yeah! the prices in exercise equipment have skyrocketed over the course of this pandemic! I'm glad i purchased "everything i need" approx 1.5years before the pandemic and that i didn't have to deal with price gouging!

grannyannie on 09/15/2020:
E bikes are also selling fast here, so glad we already had ours.

Maria7 on 09/15/2020:
95% is wonderful. Soon you will be all the way there! Smile.

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
Nearly there!

Donkey on 09/15/2020:
One piece of advice about buying exercise equipment, especially if you are thinking about getting an elliptical: try before you buy.

I was seeing commercials for the Bowflex Max Trainer, which is very similar to an elliptical. I was thinking SERIOUSLY about getting one. Went to a sporting goods store - this was before COVID - and they had a floor model set up. Oh my goodness, I almost tore up my back with this. The angle was wrong, the stride was wrong - it just was NOT a good fit for my body. I tried the other floor models and funny enough, the most comfortable one was a very cheap model ($150) - one that I NEVER would have considered.

So just food for thought.

You might want to consider upgrading your bike instead. Less risky perhaps?

grannyannie on 09/16/2020:
Unfortunately, there is now way to try one out first. By the time I'm safely able to travel into the city to do that, it will be safe to go back to the gym. The bike I have is one we bought about 10 years ago - just a basic one. I never use one at the gym, only the recumbent. I guess I'll stick with this any my other exercises.
