(Low cal - moderate carbs - cardio and muscle work)
Weight: 161.6

Still a lot of coughing and woke up a lot.

Just going to count calories and not carbs. I know what’s too high in carbs.

Menu:

B: Soy yogurt and strawberries, tea w/soy milk

S: coconut/almond milk cappuccino, quinoa cranberry bar

L: 6 veg salad w/cheddar

D: veggie curry, tonic water

S: dry roasted peanuts

Total cals: 924

I'll catch up today with how everyone here is doing.

Progress as of today: 5.4 lbs lost so far, only 16.6 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/09/2019:
do you have any nighttime cough medicine? i find it helps me sleep thru the night when i'm sick.

continue to feel better soon!

your menu looks fantastic and healthy. i like reading your veggie dishes/curry as i am sure it is so filling especially because of the flavor. i have an indian dish with me for lunch today, actually. indian prepared spinach, similar to cream of spinach.

grannyannie on 09/09/2019:
My cough is caused by post nasal drip and nothing can really stop it draining. My sinuses will have to clear up first.

happy-1 on 09/09/2019:
fresh pineapple is amazing for sore throats and coughing. better than cough syrup

grannyannie on 09/09/2019:
Thanks. My throat isn't actually sore any more. But my cough is from the dripping, especially when laying down. On a normal night when I'm well I will cough at least a couple of times within the first 15 minutes of lying down. Allergies and rhinitis. Blech.

legcramps on 09/09/2019:
Hope your cough gets better! I kind of love happy's comment about pineapple - pineapple is the best :)

grannyannie on 09/09/2019:
I love fresh pineapple. Just had sweet and sour curry which was made with pineapple.

When I've had the flu (it's been years) my favourite medicine is hot water, whisky, lemon juice, and honey. If you have enough of them you no longer care that you are sick! LOL.

BearCountryGG on 09/09/2019:
WEll...as annoying as drainage is...at least it is moving...much better than beeing all stopped up! Can you add an extra pillow?....

grannyannie on 09/09/2019:
I've tried that but find I can't really get good sleep. I always sleep on my side. But I could try.

Maria7 on 09/09/2019:
Hoping you are better soon. Do you think you may have bronchitis? Sometimes that can take a while to clear up.

grannyannie on 09/10/2019:
No, not bronchitis. It's definitely sinsus drainage.

Feeling better. Not 100% yet - still cough and runny nose. But we had guests last night that we arranged weeks ago. Husband made 3 Thai dishes as well as veggie fried rice, a brown mixed rice we bought in Thailand, and basmati rice. Also a cucumber/pepper/vinegar salad. Ice cream with fresh berries for dessert.  Later we had assorted cheeses and crackers.  Lots of wine.  Oink.

Today we've finished up the ice cream, the crackers and will have lots of leftovers for dinner. I might have a beer.

Tomorrow I'll be at 1,000 or less calories per day, and no alcohol.  And I will stick to this when I'm at home. I won't get on the scale for about 2 weeks - was indulging when I was sick.

I'll decide on gym in the morning - if not I'll do muscle work. I will definitely go on Tuesday. Weds I have a hair appointment and after that an eye exam. Will count the calories at lunch time.

Progress as of today: 5.4 lbs lost so far, only 16.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/08/2019:
Oh my what a delicious dinner party!!! I hope you enjoyed it - the calories sound like they were completely worth it!

I tend to indulge when I am sick too. Nothing tastes the way it should. I'm serious when I say that mint chocolate chip anything has healing powers... or at least it tastes like it does.

I suppose though that once you are 100%, it's back to getting "back on track." Part of me kind of wishes it didn't have to be that way, you know what I mean?

grannyannie on 09/08/2019:
It was a very nice dinner and it was nice to see our friends. I'll be counting calories again tomorrow.

BearCountryGG on 09/08/2019:
I'm glad that you are starting to feel better.......you did eat a lot of healthy things...and when we are sick...some things just sound a lot better than others....

grannyannie on 09/08/2019:
Thanks! Yea, it's hard to be good when you feel bad.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/08/2019:
you sound a lot better. the meal your hubby made sounds outstanding and healthy too. love the salads and fruit for dessert with it.

grannyannie on 09/09/2019:
Yea, hubby is a great cook - healthy and creative. I am lucky! Yes, feeling better than before. It's been 2 long weeks. Too much of a setback.

Still feeling sick - coughing all night.  But managed to get out of the house to go grocery shopping today. Now I'm exhausted!  Not logging food, not counting.  Needless to say, no exercise.

Thanks for the get well wishes.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/02/2019:
Did you get sick because of the trip or something random? feel better.

grannyannie on 09/03/2019:
I caught a cold on our weekend trip to Glasgow/Edinburgh. And it's a nasty one!

Donkey on 08/28/2019:
Apparently, I woke up this morning to learn that I am fighting off something as well. I'm not feeling as poorly as you - yet - but I can sympathize for sure. I'll start doing zinc swabs up the nose today.

I think you did OK with the peanuts and beer - there is some nutrition there (even with the beer!), and the beer would help with sleep, I would think. I hope you feel better soon!

grannyannie on 08/28/2019:
Thanks. Yea, at least the peanuts are good protein and other stuff.

Just wish I had some energy. I wake up with sore throat and stuffy head which clears later, but still feel yuck. Runny nose and sneezing.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/28/2019:
i think i may have some tonic water soon, ode to annie. you tempt me.

grannyannie on 08/28/2019:
All different flavours. Refreshing with some pieces of lime or lemon in it.

Ugh. I knew when I woke with a bit of a sore throat yesterday morning that I might have caught a cold.  Yep. Woke up with sore throat and blocked nose today and not feeling energetic at all. Might try to do my muscle workout, but don’t know. Need to go grocery shopping since we’ve been gone.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/27/2019:
i hope you feel better. excellent menu. do you ever change up the veggies in your salad?

welcome home! boy did that weekend come and go quickly!

grannyannie on 08/27/2019:
Salads are always some type of dark leaves, usually including spinach, carrot, cucumber, pepper, celery, tomato....so I always stick to that. Get plenty of veg in our curries for dinner so figure I'm good.

Donkey on 08/27/2019:
Ugh, I hope you clear up soon. I am so dreading getting sick. I've been hypervigilant about it lately.

grannyannie on 08/27/2019:
I can't remember the last time I had a cold. A couple of years at least. But I was visiting in a hospital and then in crowds of people all weekend, so I guess I wasn't careful enough although I'm fanatical about washing my hands.

BearCountryGG on 08/27/2019:
Hope you feel better soon.....zinc tablets help around here.

grannyannie on 08/27/2019:
Thanks I've tried zinc and other things - no luck.

(Low cal - moderate carbs - cardio and muscle work)

Didn't do that great on our weekend - but could have been worse I guess.  We did a LOT of walking and much of it was uphill.

Too much alcohol and some snacking. So I'll just get back to counting and not beat myself up.  Next cheat day is Sept 7th when we have guests for dinner.

Just came home so having lunch here.  This is a gym day and I don't want to mess up my schedule again, so I'll do my muscle workout at home tomorrow, then back to the gym on Weds as normal.

Menu:

  • B: restaurant - Small Scottish breakfast: 1 egg, 1 potato scone, beans, 1 sausage, 1 bacon (415 cals), tea w/milk
  • S:  cappuccino
  • L:  6 veg salad w/cheddar
  • D: veggie curry, tonic
  • S:  dry roasted peanuts

Total:  1182 cals - Carbs: don't know as I don't know the breakfast carbs

Hope everybody had a great weekend!

Progress as of today: 5.4 lbs lost so far, only 16.6 lbs to go!

Good plan to get back to the watching things...life is for living...you didn't do anything but live...now on days where you can...you watch it even more....good job!!! Dieting shouldn't be our whole life...just a part of it.

grannyannie on 08/26/2019:
Very true!

Donkey on 08/26/2019:
I couldn't say it better than Bear! I agree 100%. And no sense in beating yourself up as to what was eaten or drunk - better to savor the memory of a wonderful time!

grannyannie on 08/26/2019:
It was worth it - sitting outdoors drinking a cold beer after lots of walking in the sunshine...ahhh. Not something we can do that often here.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/26/2019:
sept 7 is a big day for me also! i'm walking in a labor day parade followed by a nice meal :)

also, glad to hear you were active. that's so healthy. lately, i'm quite a couch potato. many hours on the couch on the weekend.

i like to keep my schedule for the gym also. just took a minor break this weekend bc i felt it would help give me some energy and change of pace for the weekend, which it did.

grannyannie on 08/26/2019:
Being active is something I don't usually neglect. I feel horrible when I'm lazy!

happy-1 on 08/26/2019:
Ooooh Scottish breakfast... Yum

grannyannie on 08/26/2019:
I would have preferred the 'large' Scottish breakfast, but had to consider calories! Nearly 2,000 just for breakfast would have been a bit too much!

More alcohol than I planned yesterday. It was so nice to sit outdoors mid afternoon with a cold beer.

Hard to post on my phone as I didn't bring my laptop.

Breakfast was supposed to be 550 cal eggs benedict but restaurant out of hollandaise. So its vegetarian with egg, quorn sausage, beans, hash browns and toast. 915 cals!

Lunch will be at the gardens in Edinburgh.

Had egg salad sandwich, shared packeyvof doritos and cupcake with hubby.

2 beers si far.

Dinner?

grannyannie on 08/23/2019:
It's challenging for sure!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/23/2019:
i agree with Donkey! not easy to keep low but you are doing it.

also your salad with liver and cheddar sounds good!

grannyannie on 08/23/2019:
The salad is very filling and healthy. I've got no bread in the house or freezer at all, so can't be tempted to have a sandwich.

BearCountryGG on 08/23/2019:
Youn are keeping the calories down really well!!!

grannyannie on 08/24/2019:
Thanks. This weekend is a test.

happy-1 on 08/23/2019:
I should be this good on the calories and cardio! Well done!

grannyannie on 08/24/2019:

D: veg & bean chili, tonic water

Horn_of_plenty on 08/22/2019:
If you end up at the botanical gardens, i'd love to see a photo down the road when you have time to post one! :)

always nice to go to the movie theater...i go prob most 1-2x per year. especially good when the movie was worth seeing on the big screen - i have seen quite a few blows.

nice job on your menu and exercises. i also do BOTH lunges and squats. do you do your lunges in place? or are they walking lunges? of course, mine are in plcae - i step forward to a lunge and then back and repeat for the desired reps. do you step back also, or is it a walking lunge covering some distance at the gym?

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
I'll post some photos when I get back. :)

I do the muscle work at home, not the gym. I'm not great at doing lunges on alternating feet or walking, so I do a lunge then go down 5 times, and then the other leg. Easier to balance as well. For squats I do 10 at a time. And with both I hold dumbbells.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2019:
i do the same with my lunges, back and forth in place.

for my squats i also use a weighted bar so i'm going down with extra weight.

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
Do you use ankle weights? I really like those for thighs and butt.

Donkey on 08/22/2019:
I've been wanting to see a movie at the theater lately. It's hard to find something that my husband and I would like to see together. We have different tastes.

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
I looked through all the films showing this weekend and not one looks watchable. Haven't been since last autumn I think. We usually agree on movies.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2019:
i just looked at the movies - poor selection :(

also, no on the ankle weights - at least not yet.

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
Nope, no good ones.

Ankle weights are great! Lots of different exercises you can do with them.

legcramps on 08/22/2019:
Love lunges and squats! One of the best exercises out there! During a group session, we did walk-through lunges. You do a reverse lunge (stepping backwards) and then swing your leg up and forward into a forward lunge, and repeat. I think we did it 10 times before switching to the other leg. It was a burner for sure!

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
Yea, they are intense!

happy-1 on 08/22/2019:
love the botanical gardens

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
We have a very good about 5 miles from our house, and the one in Edinburgh is the 'parent' of that one. Haven't been for ages! Been to Edinburgh twice this summer but it was with family and we did castle or museums.
