(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 163.6

We were watching the US news yesterday for much of the day for the results of the Georgia race. Then of course it turned into an insurrection at the capitol building. We normally go to bed at 9 but stayed up until almost midnight. More beer than I planned and more snacking. We still got up at 6 as usual and I doubt I’ll have the energy to get on my spin bike.

Menu:

  • B: porridge with strawberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad with chicken and cheddar and apple
  • D:  Thai red curry
  • S: popcorn, possibly beer for a delayed celebration
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 4.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 01/07/2021:
We watched the news at work, in utter disbelief and sadness and disgust. My instinct was to get home ASAP and hit the wine. I had very little energy for anything.

Maybe just a slow bike ride to stretch out the legs?

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
It was far too easy for those thugs to get into the building. Some of the cops had to be in on it. There are certain people who need to be arrested and charged with inciting violence and sedition. They knew this might happen so why wasn't the capitol building surrounded by riot cops?

I did a good workout yesterday and am totally unmotivated today. I'm too angry at what happened in DC.

13 more days.

Jacky82020 on 01/07/2021:
It is unbelievable. One can only hope it never happens again. On the bright side Trump and his thugs have further discredited themselves & we will see more Dems elected. His insanity probably cost the repugs the Georgia senate loss, the nation’s gain.

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
His lunacy has definitely helped the 2 GA senators get elected.

I'm worried about what he will do in the next 13 days. I doubt they'll do the 25th amendment.

Jacky82020 on 01/07/2021:
25th looking unlikely per experts on MSNBC. Can’t be instantly done and the Moron can appeal

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
Yea, they won't do 25th, just talking about it. But he can do a lot of damage in 13 days. He'll incite more riots.

Jacky82020 on 01/07/2021:
He will certainly try. Whenever he goes as low as he can, he outdoes himself.

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
Yea, just when you think you can't be shocked any more, he does.

Jacky82020 on 01/07/2021:
Exactly. And been going on for years. Hope he doesn’t strap a bomb to his chest and blow up the Capital

Maria7 on 01/07/2021:
A lot to pray about in the world we are all living in.

grannyannie on 01/08/2021:
It's a big mess!

Yet another dry but cold today. Blue sky with snow on the mountaintops (but not the ground) is fine with me. Other areas of Scotland, especially in the east and central areas have snow.

Supposed to be snow turning into rain tomorrow. This nice, long spell of dry will be over.

Menu:

  • B: porridge with strawberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad with chicken and cheddar, 1 oatcake
  • D:  Thai red curry (mmmm….my new favourite)
  • S:  1 bottle of beer and a packet of cheddar and onion baked crisps to celebrate a political victory
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Total:  under 1300 unless I have a 2nd beer which is highly likely but I’ll still be under 1500

Workout:

  • Spin bike: 30 mins - running, sitting, jumps, hill climbing
  • 3 x 10 lunges, squats using 2kg weights
  • 3 x 10 side lunges and calf lifts using 4kg weights
  • 3 sets x 10 of 5 upper body routines with the 3kg dumbbells
  • 3 sets x 5 of 5 upper body routines with 2kg and 4kg weights

Floor routines:

  • 3 sets x 10 thighs and bum wearing ankle weights (3 routines)
  • 5 sets x 4 standing abs with ankle weights, bridge, planks, push ups (5)
  • S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 4.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 01/06/2021:
I woke up to unexpected snowing this morning. Drat.

Your post reminds me that I need to try harder to get back into weight training again. I seem to run out of time.

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
I had to go so long without doing any muscle - about 3 months because of my injury - that I feel motivated to keep it up and to get back to heavier weights when I can.

It's much easier to do with when you are retired. No excuses.

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
I also had to go many months without no upper muscle work when I hurt my shoulder a few years ago.

Donkey on 01/06/2021:
PS your "after" picture from yesterday is amazing. Closet looks so neat and tidy now!

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
It much have been years since I last organized it. I went through the folders I have in there and threw out a ton. I had tons of gift bags and wrapping paper.

I WILL keep it tidy now (LOL).

Jacky82020 on 01/06/2021:
Elated over last night’s election results! Appears the Dems have regained control of the Senate. Hallelujah!

Cold & dry here too. Gas bill rising.

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
I'm elated as well. Just waiting until Ossoff is official and I'm breaking out the beer.

We got a new heating system back in 2010. Air source heat pump so it's electric and computerized. Same temperature in the house all the time and can programme the system for vacation mode. Our electric bill, including the heat, is about £100/month all year. Used to be over £300 just for heat in the winter.

Jacky82020 on 01/06/2021:
What is £ 100 in US dollars? So do you have an averaged rate or whatever they call it. That’s offered here too, but don’t use it. Pay as low as $30 in warm months & $300 in colder. Never did figure out average monthly use. I can tolerate and prefer cooler indoor temps, but have to keep my bird room 70-73F. The electric bill is almost always $100 a month. We do have a big house with 3 gas furnaces. Do lots of laundry & the dryer is electric. So’s the stove, but I barely use it.

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
The exchange rate fluctuates a lot but right now £100 is about $136. We do average rates. Our house is usually about 69 or 70F. It's 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath, open living/dining and the laundry room has no heating. No basement but a loft the size of the house. And I always use a dryer. Cooking is gas.

Jacky82020 on 01/06/2021:
Yep, does seem to fluctuate Think it was higher not too long ago

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
It took a huge dive after the Brexit vote in 2016. It went all the way down to £1 to $1.15 I think. I remember one year the £1 was $2. That made shopping in the US tons of fun! There were people take shopping trips from London to NYC to shop! A normal rate is about £1 to $1.45ish.

Jacky82020 on 01/06/2021:
Wow! That’s amazing!

grannyannie on 01/06/2021:
Back in the 1970's I think it was £1 equals $4. The pound has never been worth less than the dollar.

Maria7 on 01/06/2021:
We haven't had any snow nor ice. But we have had rain.

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
We are normally rain in the winter - very cold rain - and windy. We've been spoiled the last couple of weeks.

Jacky82020 on 01/06/2021:
Trump has been kicked off Twitter for 12 hours & faces a permanent ban. The crazy video is gone. YouTube removed it too.

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
He needs to be permanently banned from Twitter and everywhere else. We stayed up until almost midnight watching the chaos which he incited.

Horn_of_plenty on 01/06/2021:
we are also have LOTS of dry weather. and no too cold. instead of 20s-30s, it's upper 30s to 40. that's nice. doesn't feel bitter.

grannyannie on 01/07/2021:
Winters are normally in the 40's and upper 30s. But we've been at freezing most nights recently.

Supermarket for all the stuff I like to pick and bag myself (berries, mushrooms, bananas) and all the stuff they didn’t have yesterday. Love going at this time. It’s so quiet and fast. I left the house at 7:20, got into the store by 7:40, back in the car before 8 and home by 8:20ish. We are 10 miles from the store.

It threw off my workout schedule by doing grocery pickup yesterday instead of today. Full workout tomorrow. Housework today.

Don’t know what was going on yesterday but I did NOT behave at all food or drink-wise. But I will today!

Stressful week politics-wise.  I will allow myself at least one beer tomorrow (or the next) night to celebrate.

Jacky, you mentioned a book about the last slaves in America. You might like one I listened to recently: Caste: The origins of our discontent by Isabel Wilkerson

Scotland is on FULL lockdown as of midnight until Jan 31st. England is on full lockdown until mid Feb. Changes nothing for us. We are behaving as we have been. This morning I heard Scotland is expected to have everyone over the age of 50 and anyone under 50 with health issues to be vaccinated by April. Hope so!

Menu:

  • B: porridge with strawberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad with chicken and cheddar, apple
  • D:  hubby will make a huge batch of curry or Thai dish - it takes 2+ hours to him to make one with grinding fresh spices and herbs, making the sauces, sometimes using stick blender on sauce, lots of chopping, cooking the chicken, etc so he makes a giant pot which we eat for 6 or 7 days.
  • S: popcorn (still have a box of 24 single packs and won’t order any more)
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Total:  under 1200 cals

Going to start on living room cupboard today. Before photo:

After:

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 4.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 01/05/2021:
Not to be discouraging, but your closet is quite mild in comparison to some of the disasters that lurk behind closed doors in my house. You got this.

Political Stress - the next time I see my doctor, and she asks why I think I've gained weight, I'm gonna tell her "Political Stress." All I can do is pray... and try not to reach for food. The wine is kept in an inconvenient location, so that's not as much of a struggle. But the struggle is real.

grannyannie on 01/05/2021:
The cupboard doesn't look as bad as it is. There is tons of small stuff everywhere and also papers to be filed.

Political stress - US and here! Covid stress. Grief. My husband has beer every day so seeing him with beer makes it tempting for me. I have to be tough.

Jacky82020 on 01/05/2021:
Hell’s bells, Annie your before photo looks better than my afters.

I will see if I can find the book, thanks.

grannyannie on 01/05/2021:
It took me hours to clean out this cupboard. There was loads of junk in there and papers, gift bags, cards, bits to my Gopro, bits to my cameras, unknown cords, etc etc. Adding the after photo because I'm done!

Donkey on 01/05/2021:
PS I wanted to add that I did hear about the UK shutdown schedules. It will be a trying time but Scotland and England are doing the right thing to beat COVID.

grannyannie on 01/05/2021:
I get so annoyed with the news for saying UK because when it comes to Covid rules each countries leader decides - so England is done by Boris, Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland by each ones First Minister. Scotland is until Jan 31st, and England until mid Feb. Boris is doing the worst and always waits too long to do anything. In the begging he just said let's do herd immunity and everybody can catch it. Then he ended up with Covid in ICU.

grannyannie on 01/05/2021:
I'm surprised any businesses survive this! At least nobody goes hungry or becomes homeless here because of it. The government takes care of them. And we also have idiot anti maskers (only it's not politcal here).

legcramps on 01/05/2021:
Take care and stay safe!

grannyannie on 01/05/2021:
Thanks. Same to you. We've been very safe since we are retired and live in a low population area.

innerpeace on 01/05/2021:
Great job, but honestly I didn't think the before looked bad! Well we will all have to do our 'patriotic duty' for 100 days coming up! Putting serving in the military to shame, but oh well! Stay safe!

Maria7 on 01/05/2021:
I need to clean out my closet, too!

Horn_of_plenty on 01/05/2021:
i hear such bad things about the more contagious second strain of covid...

it's turned up in numerous states in the US, including NY State i believe.

Had booked click and collect at supermarket for 10 this morning. However, I was told several of the ‘pickers’ called in sick so they were far behind. I got to the car park before 10 and didn’t get my stuff until nearly 11. I usually get them by about 10:05.

So by the time I got home I was annoyed and hungry and cold and didn’t feel like making a salad after putting away all the shopping.  So had a chicken and cheese sandwich instead.

Changing sheets on our bed.

I keep a document file on my chromebook where I put my posts for here so I can just copy and paste. I have to type in at least one line myself on this site and go to new paragraph before I can paste the rest - otherwise it all disappears. But it always works. My basic menu is always there and also my workouts.

Menu:

  • B: porridge with blueberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  chicken and cheese sandwich
  • D:  panang curry
  • S: popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Total:  ?

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 4.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 01/04/2021:
I've been thinking about doing the same with my diary, so that I can save a copy of what I write for myself. Thank you for the tips to copy-and-paste so that I won't waste time wondering what I'm doing wrong.

That's frustrating about the pickup, but unfortunate to hear that staff is sick. That's not good either!

grannyannie on 01/04/2021:
It took me a while to figure out if I do one line then go new paragraphy I can then paste. There's no way I'd type all the exercises in each time.

I asked the lady if the staff had Covid but she didn't think so. She said the pickers are all kids and it's probably just a Monday morning thing.

Jacky82020 on 01/04/2021:
Noticed the Walmart pickup had far more ppl than usual, but wait under t5 minutes. Usually they come to your vehicle to confirm name & another one brings items out quickly.

grannyannie on 01/04/2021:
We get a text and an email and the email tells you what items were substituted of they didn't have so you know by the time they get to the car. I always arrive before 10 and have to wait until exactly 10 to check in and give my slot number because of alcohol. I've near waited more than 10 minutes - usually 5.

Jacky82020 on 01/04/2021:
Thanks again, Bear, for the substitution inside info. I was afraid of accepting them until you provided that, thinking I’d wind up paying more for the brand name, but it has always worked to my advantage. They didn’t have my 6 pack of bottled diet root beer, so they gave me a 12 pack of cans for the same price last time.

Jacky82020 on 01/04/2021:
Yes, indeed! Love saving money on food etc. thanks, Bear.

Annie, same here. They send an email maybe 1/2 before pickup slot to mention substitutes and then another 15 min before time saying it’s ready. We usually go 10-11 Friday. The husband gets off work then.

If you don’t like a substitution you have to tell the pick up ppl. I only rejected one, can’t even remember what now. Probably had too many calories, or too much fat/sodium

grannyannie on 01/04/2021:
I rejected a lot of them today. I wanted whole mangoes (hubby makes smoothies) and they wanted to give me cut up fruit. Wanted broccoli and cauliflower and they wanted to give me both that were cut up already. Also a different brand of porridge. First time I've rejected so many.

We get an email and text at the same time and the email tells me substitutes or not available. I tell them my parking spot number. And when they come to the car they confirm my name and if I want substitutions.

Jacky82020 on 01/04/2021:
Can’t blame you on those! I’d have done the same. For a while, I picked up all produce inside after they gave me lousy snap peas for my parrots. Had enter store that day & they had discounted (past best used by day) that were better than the ones I paid full price for. My birds love mangoes!

Jacky82020 on 01/04/2021:
Annie, have you heard the reports Dump may be fleeing to Scotland on 1/19 to escape the Inauguration? Lol. Poor Scotland.

grannyannie on 01/05/2021:
Yes, I've heard they are prepared for a US military plane to arrive on Jan 19th and they have been doing checks on his golf resort nearest to that small airport. We do NOT want him here! And we are on FULL lockdown so till the end of Jan so he shouldn't be allowed in anyway. Nobody else allowed in.

Jacky82020 on 01/05/2021:
Maybe the Gates of Hell can open wide for him.

Scale says 163.6. So I'll go with that since I've been 163 or 164 four times in a week.

Trying again to clean the bathrooms!  Did an extra thorough job in the living/dining room yesterday and wore myself out!

I’ve got the cupboard from hell in the living room to sort out. So instead of making it a big daunting chore, I’ll give myself a goal of one shelf.  There are 4 shelves and the floor has all my camera stuff.

Menu

  • B: porridge with blueberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk, quinoa bar (last one, not buying more)
  • L:  6 veg salad with chicken breast and cheddar and apple
  • D:  panang curry
  • S: popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Glorious views!

I keep meaning to bust out my Canon EOS 620 digital . Great camera & I have some good lens. Bought when I was selling photos of my parrots to bird magazines. Lost interest and poor thing sits idly in the cabinet along with a few 35mm cameras I can’t bear to part with. Used to have a home darkroom years ago. Early on the mags purchased only B&W prints & color slides.

grannyannie on 01/03/2021:
I sometimes use my Canon especially when I need to really zoom in, but I mostly use my phone camera. Just got a new one about a month ago - Samsung S20.

grannyannie on 01/03/2021:
The bottom photo is using the wide angle setting which my previous phone didn't have. And I never bought a wide angle lens for my camera.

Jacky82020 on 01/03/2021:
Amazing what those phone cams can do!

grannyannie on 01/04/2021:
There are better androids than the one I bought but it costs a fortune. I will not pay £1200 for a phone!

Donkey on 01/03/2021:
Those are really beautiful photos!

I came to the realization that I need to clean out my linen closet sometime this year. Sooner would be better, but kind of like with the pantry and my personal closet, I'm sure this will take some time to actually achieve, with many days of complaining and wistfully looking at the closet, thinking, Gee, this really needs to be re-organized and cleaned out. One shelf at a time is a good idea!

Pretty good with the scale!

Housework - living/dining/kitchen floor, laundry room. Might do bathrooms if I feel energetic since I didn't do them yesterday.

We've been looking for new Netflix or Prime series and just heard that 2 of our favourite cop shows will be back soon. Love binging on a good series, especially when it involves solving crimes.

Beautiful. To see that everyday...

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:
Normally it will be rainy and stormy in winter but we're having a spell of sunny days which makes the cold much easier to take.I can sit in my recliner in the bay window all cozy and warm and enjoy the view.

Donkey on 01/02/2021:
OK what ARE the 2 cop shows that you are excited about???

Whoa, my daughter would be so thrilled to have ships pass her house. Maybe it gets old after a while? I'd be willing to give it a try, LOL :-)

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:
They are British so you may not get them but they are Line of Duty and Unforgotten.

It's easy to take the view for granted. But when we get bad weather for a week or so and then a sunny day I appreciate it again.

Jacky82020 on 01/02/2021:
Wonderful pic, Annie! You have had the coolest global adventures and wound up in paradise. Fair& Square! Karma!

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:

LOVE cop shows...there's also a firefighter show that i LOVE...i think it's called 911...it's on a regular local channel, not sure if it's on netflix, etc. GREAT show! so good!...it's fictional.

grannyannie on 01/03/2021:
We used to watch Law and Order SVU and some other American cop shows, but now mainly do the British ones. We also like the forensic ones which show how they figure out a crime.

Hope you all have a happy new year. Too much beer and chocolate liqueurs and snacks last night. Bed by 9.

I’m having a really hard time with going into a new year. It feels like I’m leaving my son behind. And I’m not the only one that feels that way. It’s common in my 6,000+ Covid Bereavement group on FB.

Might or might not clean the bathrooms.

Have to renew my driver’s licence online. It’s every 10 years here until you are 70 - then it’s every 5. I first got my UK licence when I was 49 so have to renew for my 69th which is in Feb. But I still have to renew again at 70 like everybody does. So 2 years in a row. Only £14 though.

Menu:

  • B: porridge  with raspberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk, quinoa and drk choc snack bar
  • L:  6 veg salad with hummus, 3 oat cakes and apple
  • D:  panang curry
  • S: popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Total:  under 1300

Workout:

  • Spin bike: 30 mins - running, sitting, jumps, hill climbing
  • 3 x 10 lunges, squats using 2kg weights
  • 3 x 10 side lunges and calf lifts using 4kg weights
  • 3 sets x 10 of 5 upper body routines with the 3kg dumbbells
  • 3 sets x 5 of 5 upper body routines with 2kg and 4kg weights

Floor routines:

  • 3 sets x 10 thighs and bum wearing ankle weights (3 routines)
  • 5 sets x 4 standing abs with ankle weights, bridge, planks, push ups (5)
  • S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S

Progress as of today: 3.2 lbs lost so far, only 8.8 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 01/01/2021:
We renewed our licenses online this year, but often do. Not sure how often one has to go in for a new photo.

6000! I am so very sorry. A tragedy made worse by a crazy narcissist President. I am so disappointed in America. They elected a carnival barker conman over one of the most qualified candidates in history & a nation mourns. Certain we will hear much from this greedy bastard in the years to come,

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
We don't have offices to go in to renew licences - no written or eye test. For those who can't go online they can do it at the post office. Don't remember how I did the photo 10 years ago, but this time just gave them passport number and they used that photo.

The FB group I'm in is almost all people in the UK, so any group in the US will be much bigger. It's been very helpful to be in this group. They chose a yellow heart for the symbol. I found them only a few weeks after my son died. It was on BBC.

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
The UK total covid deaths is 73,000. The US has 340,000+.

Happy Hogmanay!

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
Thank you. Yes, it's Hogmanay here.

Jacky82020 on 01/01/2021:
They just do a brief eye test and take new photos here. If you lose the license, they issue a new one with the old photo. Once I lied and said it was lost because I looked like a fat pig in the pic. So I wound up paying for the same photo already on file. Lol. Understand they will rephotograph if your appearance has drastically changed. Maybe a sex reassignment surgery would have done the trick.

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
Used to get mine renewed every 3 or 4 years in the US. My US licence was only good for one year after moving here. Then I had to take a long written test and a driving test. From some countries you can just transfer but not the US because rules are different and they have so many big roundabouts. Driving on the left didn't take long to get used to.

Jacky82020 on 01/01/2021:
Usually it can be done online. Only visited DMV once since moving here in 2011. Think I was due to come in recently, but they waived it due to covid & I had to pay but not go in. So still the porky pig pic. lol

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
The place that processes all drivers licences here is in Cardiff in Wales. Very fast service.

Jacky82020 on 01/01/2021:
Breezing through your Uganda blog. Fascinating! See top of my feed for a few of my favorite photos,

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
Did you start at the very beginning before we even went?

Donkey on 01/01/2021:
I never thought about the connection between leaving time behind with the loss of a loved one. Logically speaking, I can see why that would happen. Emotionally speaking, I'm so sorry and my heart aches for you.

I am in a double bind with my driver's license. Not only do I have to get a vision test, because I wear glasses, but I also have to convert to the Illinois Real ID - so that the DL's are compliant with TSA regulations for air travel. BOTH of these things do not allow me to renew online. BLAST IT ALL. When the DMV's opened after the first COVID shutdown, I wasn't about to wait in line for 4-5 hours to get a new DL, and then they shutdown again because of the rise in COVID numbers. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and stand in line soon. In the dead of winter. Brr...

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
I never thought about a time connection either. But it started to hit me and I didn't know why. Then people posted in the bereavement group and they felt the same. So I knew what it was.

We don't do vision tests for our licences. Probably had to list if we wore glasses on our first one. We don't have any option to combine a DL with air travel. I'd guess nearly 100% of people here have a passport. I think I had to mail everything for my first licence here 20 years ago. Had to have the test results and the practical driving test to submit, and my photo.

Jacky82020 on 01/01/2021:
Didn’t they put the Real ID on hold?

Think I started at beginning. Was it 2007? Terrific pic of view from your house to the loch

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
Yes. 2007. Look in archives in the sidebar.

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:
Read ID?

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:
Real ID?

Jacky82020 on 01/01/2021:
Yep! I found the animal pics! Wonderful! Reminds me of Pete’s Pond in Botswana. They once had a web cam I watched often. Gone now as far as I know.

Maria7 on 01/01/2021:
So sorry for your loss, Annie. Glad that you have a special support group who are going through the same thing, to help you and them. We lost friends last year, quite a few, too. I know it is not the same as you losing your Son, but still grieving. But none of them are ever left behind with going in to a new year. They are still loved and in our memories of them. Take care and know that we all love you here, Annie.

grannyannie on 01/01/2021:
Thanks Maria. It makes it more real to know he won't be here in 2021. Haven't even had a memorial for him yet. Or buried his ashes.

Maria7 on 01/01/2021:
Give yourself time. We didn't even get to attend our friends' funeral (they were husband and wife who died 2 days apart) cause only 10 people were allowed to attend (it was back in May of 2020 and they had a big family).

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:
Being in different countries makes it even more difficult.

Horn_of_plenty on 01/01/2021:
ha, i always wait so long to clean things....and always wonder why i waited so long when it's such a simple, faster task than i originally thought it would be....well, i cleaned my shower and bathroom floor today and i hope it motivates you to do the same!

driver license renewal in NYS is now every 8 years, i believe, from what i believe? was 10 years previously. it is MUCH more money. like $80 minimum or something like that. here, anything having to do with a car is outrageously priced.

i'm sorry you are feeling bad about your son. it was too early for his departure. at least you have lasting positive memories.

were you going to stay up till Midnight? i was mostly undecided but when i felt like sleeping after a thousand phone calls, it was already 11:45pm....and i said, might as well...GO TO BED! fast asleep by midnight!

grannyannie on 01/02/2021:
Last time we stayed up until midnight was 2013.

(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 167.8

Got 2 coats of oil on both kitchen counters. Looks nice. Shiny and warm.  That's it for at least a year.

A very light dusting of snow early this morning. Up to about 40 degrees now so it melted, as usual.

Scale said 164.4 on Tues and Weds and this morning said 163.0. I’ll update profile with whatever it says on Sunday. Going to change goal to 159, then 149 etc. Motivated by the thought of a trip after we get both doses of vaccine.  Probably just somewhere in Scotland - maybe Edinburgh. 21st wedding anniversary is April 17.

New Year’s Eve. Will have 2 bottles of beer I bought for myself, and maybe one shot of  liqueur. Back to calories again tomorrow.

Menu:

  • B: porridge with strawberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk
  • L:  6 veg salad with hummus and apple
  • D:  panang curry
  • S: popcorn, NYE drinks
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Not counting calories today, counting again tomorrow.

Workout:

Spin bike: 40 mins - running, sitting, jumps, hill climbing

S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S

Took this photo of all the varieties of garlic in the supermarket in Thailand.

Progress as of today: 3.2 lbs lost so far, only 8.8 lbs to go!

innerpeace on 12/31/2020:
I guess I am NOT schooled on all the varieties of garlic! Have a happy New Year!

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
I don't know the difference either. I just ran across the photo and thought of Jacky who loves garlic, especially black garlic.

Have a Happy New Year!

legcramps on 12/31/2020:
I've been reading your Uganda blog, and enjoying it very much! What an amazing adventure :)

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
It was an adventure. Lovely people. Lots of inconveniences but the good outweighed those by far!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/31/2020:
after looking at some of your photos on fb, GURL, you look GOOD. lean legs! sooo jealous. you conceal any weight really well! and all your fitness, pays off!

you've been doing a good job MAINTAINING your weight range this year, i'm looking at your scale chart.

yep, i'll be having some drinks too today.

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
I don't have any photos of me since I hit my max this year. But thanks!

Jacky82020 on 12/31/2020:
Wow, all that garlic! Is it expensive? What’s it cost a pound?

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
No idea but it will be cheap. And its per kg. We don't cook in Thailand. We eat out every night. Cheap, delicious and healthy. All we cook is our porridge at breakfast and we buy tons of fresh fruits. Also cheap.

Jacky82020 on 12/31/2020:
The best prices I saw on garlic were from China and one had to order many many kilo/pds. Like hundreds & hundreds

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
Hubby uses garlic but I never buy more than 2 or 3 at a time. Thais uses tons of garlic in some dishes, unless you ask them to leave it out.

Jacky82020 on 12/31/2020:
Used in many ethnic foods, but guess no single person consumes as much as a black garlic aficionado

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
LOL you and your black garlic!

Maria7 on 12/31/2020:
Had no idea there were that many varieties of garlic. WOW!!! Your snow sounds like fun!

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
Only a dusting of snow. Gone by 9am. Fine with me!

Donkey on 12/30/2020:
When I am on my laptop, I will check out your blog! I hope there are pictures too. I could use some sun and warmth right now.

Well done on your exercising! I admire your consistency!

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
I do have some photos on it (they were very hard to upload with the internet speed there) but I do have a link to the photo albums on Flickr).

I feel motivated to do the counter this morning so haven't worked out yet. So now I'm waiting for lunch to digest. Got a new book to listen to .

Donkey on 12/30/2020:
Actually, if work is quiet today, I may check out the blog sooner than initially thought.

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
I browse through it occasionally, starting from the beginning in 2007. Seems like a lifetime ago, and also like yesterday.

Jacky82020 on 12/30/2020:
Thanks, Annie, I look forward to your notes from Uganda

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
Very, very long! Hope you enjoy it. And the photo albums.

Jacky82020 on 12/30/2020:
I am a very very avid reader! From sunrise to sunset. I do exercise while I read & do my stock market thing, but It’s read, read, read all the lifelong day.

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
I love to read as well!

Maria7 on 12/30/2020:
Will be checking out your blog. Hope you have a nice day, Annie.

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
Thanks Maria, same to you.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/30/2020:
i think i will check out your blog, thank you! i'll try to save it to my laptop so it's easy to locate...also, if you are on fb, i'd like to friend you if possible?

Horn_of_plenty on 12/30/2020:
i'm jacquie dana

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
Okay. I'll friend you.

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
I'm friends with 4 or 5 previous members here on FB.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/30/2020:
everyone is still too afraid of "the consequences" of getting the shot around here....most of my friends are good with it, but some are still afraid. ugh. i will get it, of course.

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
I have no hesitation in getting the vaccine. I've had vacccinations for probably 20 things (Uganda). No reaction. Ever.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/30/2020:
on a first glance, the blog looks pretty cool!

grannyannie on 12/31/2020:
Thanks.

Jacky82020 on 12/31/2020:
I will get the vaccine ASAP. Looks like nearly a year in Pennsylvania last time I checked. Not worried. The elderly & sick need it more than me.

grannyannie - Tuesday Dec 29, 2020
(Healthy eating, exercise)
Weight: 167.8

Back to click and collect today after last week's nightmare shopping trip in a crowded store. I've already booked a slot for next week.

Got on the scale to confirm how much I’ve gained. According to scale I’ve lost 3.4 lbs since Sunday morning. Yea, don’t think so. Changes in fluid so I’m probably somewhere in between those numbers. I won’t change the number on here until it’s consistently the same.

Menu:

  • B: porridge with blueberries
  • S: coffee with coconut milk, quinoa snack bar
  • L:  6 veg salad with chicken and cheddar, banana
  • D:  hubby will make a huge batch of curry or Thai dish
  • S: popcorn
  • Drinks: diet tonic, sugar free diluting fruit drink, water, tea & coffee

Total:  about 1250

Progress as of today: 3.2 lbs lost so far, only 22.8 lbs to go!

Donkey on 12/29/2020:
If you were retaining a lot of fluid, it is quite possible that you've lost 3 pounds. However, I completely understand your skepticism and hesitation to change the numbers until they are more consistent.

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
I'm betting I'm somewhere in between the 2 numbers. Oh well, at least I'm not back to the dreaded 170!

Jacky82020 on 12/29/2020:
My dogs want that shoe! I get weird fluctuations too. Here one day and gone the next.

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
I'm not consistent with diet or doing all of exercises but will TRY.

Jacky82020 on 12/29/2020:
My weight can go up or down a good 2 pounds when my diet is the same.. Has to be fluid. Don’t see what else it could be.

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
True. It can go up and down like a yo yo.

Jacky82020 on 12/29/2020:
Ain’t that the truth!

I was trying to recall when I started wearing a mask & can’t. March 2020, but not sure when. Husband thinks midMarch. I distinctly recall at first maybe 20% of Walmart shoppers wore one. Before state mandate. Then 50% and up to 80% and finally everyone. Used to count and estimate percentages and avoid everyone, mask or no mask. Only saw one group of 3 after mask mandate not wearing any. Reported them to the greeter & she said: we can’t deny service to anyone. Never saw any afterwards and don’t know what the store does. They do have more signs saying state law requires masks posted all over the place.

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
I'm pretty sure I did a couple of weekly shops with out a mask but after than I wore one. People looked at me like I was a freak. There would be maybe 3 or 4 of us wearing a mask in the store. Mandatory sometime in summer.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/29/2020:
lol that photo is hilarious.

sometimes the scale plays the same game with me...and like you are, i just have to be logical about it...and know it's not the final average of my weight.

lately, i think the scale as been lower than usual as i'm not having lots of bulk / veggie foods...speaking of which, i'm going to cook some veggies today :)...i'm craving thai veggies again too!

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
Yea, saw in on FB and thought I'd share here. LOL.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/29/2020:
thai veggies = veggies in ginger sauce is today's craving. prob will not get them...i could...but no reason, i don't think...when i have food in the freezer / fridge for NOW. waiting to do takeout..

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
I don't do the cooking but hubby tells me what to order. There's always fresh ginger on hand.

Jacky82020 on 12/29/2020:
My fresh ginger lasts for decades. Lol

grannyannie on 12/29/2020:
Hubby uses up everything I buy - lemongrass, coriander, chilis etc.

Jacky82020 on 12/29/2020:
Sometimes seems like I’ll be wearing one forever Saw a few minutes of Biden on TV Said he will mandate where he can that all Americans wear masks.

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
Good!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/29/2020:
GOOD for Biden ;)

grannyannie on 12/30/2020:
Good!
