Happy St. Paddy's Day!!

Today I am grateful for a peaceful day with a good book - a mystery - hubby is off to the city for the day to be a good nephew to his elderly uncle.

Finishing housework, but otherwise a rest day. I WILL stick to calories this week.  Next high cal day is Saturday when we have guests for dinner.

I know we shouldn't be slaves to the scale, but my muscle gain is not sufficient to make a higher weight okay with me, although I do have a LOT of muscle.  I can look in my full-length mirror and also feel how much weight I need to lose to be comfortable, and right now it agrees with what the scale says. I know that some time in the future I won't need the scale at all because it won't be an accurate reflection of a healthy and fit size for me. I'll just know.

Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  chicken breast sandwich on whole grain w/extra light mayo, clementine
  • S:  plain, non-fat yogurt w/fresh blueberries
  • D:  veggie curry & basmati rice, salad w/pumpkin seeds, diluted oj
  • S:  small milk chocolate bar or banana (need to choose banana as I chose the chocolate last night!)
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1427

Progress as of today: 26.8 lbs lost so far, only 12.2 lbs to go!

Puddles on 03/17/2013:
I am happy you are having a rest day. Make it a good one. We have to take advantage of those day and pamper ourselves.

grannyannie on 03/17/2013:
Always have to work in at least one of two rest days a week to recover our poor muscles, etc. :)

hollybelle on 03/17/2013:
I took it easy on my muscles with a shorter ride yesterday. Have a good one!

OhioRaven on 03/17/2013:
HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY. AND THAT AIN'T NO BLARNEY.

grannyannie on 03/17/2013:
Cheers!

V on 03/18/2013:
Hope your St.Pat's day was a good one !!

Puddles on 03/16/2013:
Have a great day Annie

hollybelle on 03/16/2013:
Did the workmen get finished? Hope so - what a trial to have them around. Good food. I must take notes! LOL!

grannyannie on 03/16/2013:
Workmen come back Monday plus an electrician and plumber. Should finish by Tuesday. It's worth it though, just like it was worth not really having a kitchen for 5 weeks in order to get a new one!

(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 140.2

Today I am grateful for my husband's cooking!

New heating system is taking longer than expected. But it looks like we won't have to go through the weekend without heat and hot water. The workmen will come back on Monday. The laundry is piling up though as my washer and dryer had to be moved to the garage while furnace is being installed in my utility room. Not as big a thing as it sounds as they are British sized appliances.

Grocery shopping yesterday - all healthy except for a bag of single serve packets of baked crisps (chips) and small milk chocolate bars at 95 cals. Asking hubby to hide the chocolate and give me one when I ask for it. Although he has a tendency to forget where he hides things!

The spin bike instructor told us the spin bike at the gym only gives a calories-burned count by counting revolutions of the wheel. So when you are peddling with high resistance or standing or doing jumps those calories can't be calculated. I watched the calorie counter while I was doing the bike today and found this to be true. On low resistance and high speed the calories added up quickly. But more calories are actually burned doing the standing and jumps. So I'd estimate that instead of 400 calories burned in 30 minutes it's actually more like 600. It certainly feels like I'm burning 600!

Workout at gym:
  • 30 mins spin bike
  • 15 mins treadmill
  • 5 elliptical
  • 5 rowing machine
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12
Workout at home: (might do this afternoon or might wait until tomorrow)
  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-4 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout: 2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  chicken breast sandwich w/extra light mayo, packet of baked crisps
  • S:  grapes
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts
  • S:  plain fat free yogurt with fresh strawberries
  • Teas and lots of water
TOTAL:  1569

Progress as of today: 26.8 lbs lost so far, only 12.2 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 03/15/2013:
That's great that you are burning even more calories than previously thought. I hope your heat and hot water are back in working order today!

grannyannie on 03/15/2013:
Heat never got shut off but will be on Monday when they hook everything up. Yes, burning a lot more calories! :)

hollybelle on 03/15/2013:
Good calories and good exercise. A winning combo!

Puddles on 03/15/2013:
Wonderful routine. Keep up the good work and have a great day.

OhioRaven on 03/15/2013:
Good job on hiding the snacks, Hubby.

lolla on 03/15/2013:
I agree, you are burning 600 for sure so get hubby to get you a piece of chocolate YOU DESERVE IT!!!! Your food looks very healthy.

grannyannie on 03/15/2013:
LOL. No chocolate in my menu yet, but very soon. :)

biscottibody59 on 03/15/2013:

Today I am grateful for my family.

I have booked a house for a week in Ireland in mid-September for hubby & I and my sister.  Faces a gorgeous Atlantic Beach.

Menu:

  • B:   homemade whole grain seeded toast w/lite marg and jam (couldn't have my porridge because the workmen used up all the milk in their tea yesterday!), tea
  • L:  pbj sandwich in the car, then grocery shopping
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad
  • S:  banana, 2 oatcakes w/low fat cheddar

Sounds lovely, Annie! Good work with exercise and foods, I see you are back on track.

OhioRaven on 03/14/2013:
Sorry to hear you didn't get your porridge.

Puddles on 03/14/2013:
That will be a nice holiday for you. I would love to go to Ireland. My grand mother is from Ireland. Have a great day.

grannyannie on 03/14/2013:
I love Ireland. Haven't been since 2006. Quite similar to Scotland with enough differences to make it worth a visit. (I have O'Brien ancestry and my hubby's grandad moved to Scotland from Ireland.)

supercheese on 03/14/2013:
hoping its not too chilly!!

grannyannie on 03/14/2013:
Heat won't go off until tomorrow. Taking longer than expected so no hot water/heat/washer dryer until late Monday!!

Weight: 140.2

Today I am grateful for my stamina!

Sooo.....I've been a bit of a piggy for a few days, but at the gym today I was thinking about how it wasn't worth it. The food/drink are good at the time, but ONLY at the time I am consuming it. I'm trying to keep in mind at all times how much better I felt at 130lbs or less.

Next high cal day will be when we have our friends for dinner a week from Saturday.

They are putting in our new heating system today. Heat won't be turned off until tomorrow and will also be off on Friday. We'll use electric heaters in the mean-time and cold water, but when they are done the house will be warmer and our heating bills will be slashed. It will even be cheaper to pay for the heat AND and the loan than it is costing us now.  The loan is interest-free through the government as they are pushing for more eco-friendly and cheaper energy.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike - absolutely killed this machine today!!!
  • 15 mins elliptical
  • 10 mins rowing machine
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-4 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)

Menu: and I WILL stick to my calories today! Need to get hubby to hide the oatcakes!

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  chicken breast sandwich on whole grain w/extra light mayo
  • S: clem
  • D:  bean/veg stew on tagliatelle, salad w/walnuts
  • S:  2 oatcakes & low fat cheddar
  • Teas & lots of water

TOTAL:  1480

Progress as of today: 26.8 lbs lost so far, only 12.2 lbs to go!

OhioRaven on 03/13/2013:
Good Attitude, Annie !

biscottibody59 on 03/13/2013:

supercheese on 03/13/2013:
WOrkout machine!!! Thats an awesome loan. Snuggle up with the hubby when it gets cold!!

grannyannie on 03/13/2013:
LOL! Hard to snuggle if I'm doing dishes or warming up the leftovers though. :)

Puddles on 03/13/2013:
I know what you are talking about. My cheats are soo not worth it but I find it makes me more determine to do better. Have a great day.

grannyannie on 03/13/2013:
Yup, cheating is only good during the short time you are enjoying them. Then you pay dearly for it later.

lolla on 03/13/2013:
Your workouts are amazing and this is a bumpy road to a better body so hang in there and keep trying with every new day there is a new opportunity to do better!!!

grannyannie on 03/13/2013:
Yep, I'll just keep looking at the bar graph for Oct that says I averaged 128. Felt good and will feel good again.

hollybelle on 03/13/2013:
Great workout! Your post make me think of the saying: A moment on the lips - forever on the hips! LOL! We put in a new heating and cooling system last year. It has helped. Good luck with that. Keep on your path to health. It's so easy to get off. I think my low energy is due to recent 15 lb gain! I am gonna conquer it, though!

V on 03/13/2013:
That is super cool that the gov offers interest free loans for eco friendly home improvements! Stay to your meal plan today Annie, you can do it!

grannyannie on 03/14/2013:
Thanks! Yes, I did do it!

getmebackto150 on 03/13/2013:
I TOTALLY agree with you about splurging on food and drink... It is ONLY enjoyable at the exact time... The REST of the time, I'm annoyed that I indulged... Great attitude!!! You can do this and get back to goal!!!

grannyannie - Tuesday Mar 12, 2013
(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 140.2

Today I am grateful for a world of diversity to explore!

Not a workout day. Been doing a bit of extra snacking last few days.   I guess I was feeling deprived. Been doing all the laundry today in preparation for my utility room being out of commission the next 3 days. Getting new heating system. So the house will be cold except for electric heaters. And no hot water!

Between loads of laundry and other chores, I've been doing research on a cottage for a week in Ireland with my sister and hubby in September, and a hotel in Thailand in January for niece's wedding. NOT going to spend 2 weeks or more at the wedding hotel as the cheapest room is £155/night (about $200!).

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  banana
  • L:  grilled cheese w/low fat cheddar and whole grain bread
  • S:  skinny cappuccino, several oatcakes, 1/2 pint of hubby's new batch of home brew
  • D:  tagliatellie with bean and veg curry, salad
  • S:  clementine, dried apricots
  • Teas & water

Probably under 1800 cals

Tomorrow:  back on track!!!!!!

Progress as of today: 26.8 lbs lost so far, only 12.2 lbs to go!

OhioRaven on 03/12/2013:
You've been a bad girl. I've been bad too.

biscottibody59 on 03/12/2013:
Good going on feeling 41!

I think I felt late-20ish at 41, but now in mid-50s I definitely feel my age. It's a function of a few things, almost all of which I have control over. Glad you brought it up though--one more thing to push me forward!

Hope the heating re-do isn't too much of a pain!

Umpqua on 03/12/2013:
Wow, future travels for you, how exciting! Good luck going with the heat/hot water for a few days, that's roughing it :)

grannyannie on 03/12/2013:
Hope we aren't w/o hot water and heat for all 3 days!

Yea, this is a very busy travel year. Next year as well.

supercheese on 03/12/2013:
Ireland sounds so nice!! Snacking is okay....maybe means weightloss soon? Maybe? lol AW that sounds like no fun about the loss of heat. Bundle up!

V on 03/12/2013:
Hope you found some reasonable rates. RYC I don't mind the Spring Breakers, they are alot more tamer and can handle their booze more than ANY full fledged adults, beleive it or not the mid 40's - 60's are the ones who get arrested on the beach, sad but true.LOL

grannyannie on 03/13/2013:
Actually, I do believe you when you say the 40-60's group are worse!!

Today I am grateful for having so much stamina at the ripe old age of 61, going on 41.

I was NOT good yesterday, but I'm not stressing about it. I had a feeling I wouldn't stick to my planned calories yesterday. My calories have been quite low for the amount of exercise and I guess I was due for an increase.  Had wine, oatcakes and cheese, oatcakes and cheese, wine, etc......

I've restarted my French programme and in trying to get in some daily practice, I counted reps in French at the gym. I will do the same with my home workout.

You're as young as you feel, Annie. It's NOT just a saying.

grannyannie on 03/11/2013:
No, it isn't. And I do feel physically 20 years younger than I am. :) Although I really don't know what 61 is 'supposed' to feel like!

Puddles on 03/11/2013:
Are you taking french classes. I am french - you can write to me in french if you want. Have a great day.

grannyannie on 03/11/2013:
Merci! No, I am using Rosetta Stone, an online site, and also using a grammar book. I'm very much a beginner.

Umpqua on 03/11/2013:
I'm going on 41 and you are seriously kicking my booty in the exercise department! Don't worry though, I'll be back and going on 21 again soon ;) Good for you for keeping up with your French, what a great way to practice!

grannyannie on 03/11/2013:
Yeah, for going on 21 soon! :)

supercheese on 03/11/2013:

Weight: 140.8

Today I am grateful for my two granddaughters and my two step-grandsons.

I have finished the last bottle of concentrated juice w/artificial sugar that I've been drinking with lunch and dinner. Very low cal and delicious, but I'm off artificial sugar and this was the last food or drink that contained any. I might try regular juice and just dilute it to keep the calories down.

Workout at home:
  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-4 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  salad w/smoked salmon/chicken breast/low fat cheddar/pumpkin seeds/walnuts (Omega 3 & 6)
  • S:  plain nonfat yogurt w/fresh raspberries
  • D:  omelette with 2 veggie sausages, toast (we only have one serving of leftover tofu curry so I'm heating that up for hubby and having something else.  Two rugby matches hubby is watching today so will be unable to cook! )
  • S:  grapes, 2 oatcakes w/low fat cheddar
  • Teas and water
TOTAL:  1502

Progress as of today: 26.2 lbs lost so far, only 12.8 lbs to go!

OhioRaven on 03/09/2013:
Mornin' Annie. That's a great idea about diluting to your own taste. Who is the Hubby's favorite team ?

grannyannie on 03/09/2013:
Scotland, of course! :)

V on 03/09/2013:
LOL I guess he will be glued to the tv all day, how about you? Are you a fan of Rugby as well or will you do a little reading? Hope that you have a fantastic weekend Annie <3

grannyannie on 03/09/2013:
Not a rugby fan but I do like football (soccer).

biscottibody59 on 03/09/2013:
Have a great day!

OhioRaven on 03/09/2013:
The Lions or the Highlanders ? I don't know the difference, but I'll look for them on Sport Center.

grannyannie on 03/09/2013:
It was 6 Nations Rugby. It was Scotland vs Wales. Scotland lost :(

grannyannie on 03/09/2013:
So Scotland is out of the running. He's now watching France vs Ireland and he's rooting for Ireland.

grannyannie - Friday Mar 08, 2013
(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 140.8

Today I am grateful that I am able to visit other countries (and live in one of them!)

While grocery shopping yesterday and picking up some tofu I was very pleased to see my Cauldron veggie sausages.  My store stopped carrying them a couple of years ago and I have emailed the head store a couple of times to complain.  So maybe that helped?  I don't like Quorn sausages although I like lots of other Quorn products, and I don't like other brands of veggie sausage.  So I'm happy!!  I like to eat them for lunch like hot dogs - on bread w/mustard.

I'm trying to get more Omega 3 and 6 in my diet.  But I don't like to take supplements and don't believe they are very effective. I buy Omega 3 eggs, and eat walnuts on my salad.  But I'm trying to get more sources.  Salmon is a good one but hubby can't eat it.  So I bought some smoked salmon to have for lunch, and also some pumpkin seeds to put on the salad and alternate with walnuts.

Workout at gym: (tried to do a solid hour of cardio but ran out of steam!)
  • 30 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins treadmill
  • 10 mins rowing machine
  • 5 mins elliptical
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  postworkout:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  chicken breast sandwich on whole grain bread w/extra light mayo, plain nonfat yogurt w/fresh raspberries
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  veggie & tofu curry & rice, salad
  • S:  grapes
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1493

Edited weight. Down exactly 5 lbs from a week ago. 3 is probably water so a 2 lb weight loss sounds good to me!

Progress as of today: 26.2 lbs lost so far, only 12.8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 03/08/2013:
Pumpkin seeds are great for Omega 3, I'm trying to be mindful of it as well. I do take a supplement (we keep them in the house for the boys and hubby, who has ADD) but better to get it from food sources, I agree. I like the Morningstar Farms veggie sausages but they aren't the healthiest. Never tried Quorn's. Hope you have a good one!

We don't have Morningstar Farms sausages here. We do have Linda McCartney brand but don't like them and I think they are quite high in fat. Cauldron is 80 cals each.

You certainly kick MY butt in the cardio department. Have a good day, Annie.

Good morning Annie - it helps to voice to the authorities sometimes. I did the same thing with our grocery store here and have gotten them to bring in some stuff I also use. If you don't ask you don't get nothing wrong with trying. Have a great weekend.

You still did really well despite not getting a full hour of cardio--great job!

grannyannie on 03/09/2013:
Aye. The spin bike felt like an hour all by itself!

Well you have been going at it like a beast since your return from France so I am sure it won't make a bit of difference! Congrats on your loss, have a wonderful weekend!
