(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 141.2

Today I am grateful for being retired!

Spin bike class then grocery shopping - healthy stuff only!  Hubby is off to visit his elderly uncle in the city for the day. I'm hoping to finish a book today (John Lennon - The Life) and start another one - a mystery.

Going to invite our friends for dinner, probably weekend after this.  I'll be due for a higher calorie day by then.  I'll make my homemade veggie pasta sauce with penne pasta, homemade French bread, salad, Scottish smoked salmon terrine on oatcakes or French bread (a jar that friends brought us months ago), oatmeal raisin cookies and ice cream. Red/rose wine.

Workout:
  • 30 min spin bike class - will be torture!
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  pbj sandwich after spin class and before grocery shopping (never shop hungry!)
  • S:  plain fat free yogurt w/fresh raspberries
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad
  • S:  banana, 2 oatcakes & low fat cheddar
  • Teas and water
TOTAL:  1505

Progress as of today: 25.8 lbs lost so far, only 13.2 lbs to go!

Puddles on 03/07/2013:
Sound like a wonderful dinner that you have planned for your guests. Retirement is wonderful. Have a great day Annie.

grannyannie on 03/07/2013:
Yes, retirement is the best. I certainly wouldn't work out 8 hours a week if I wasn't retired, or travelling....

OhioRaven on 03/07/2013:
Give us an obscure/ interesting John Lennon fact. I'm a Paul McCartney fan myself.

grannyannie on 03/07/2013:
He was a heroin addict for a while. He was a genius but he could be very nasty to people. I always liked Paul the best but his behaviour the past few years has turned me off to him.

getmebackto150 on 03/07/2013:
Mmmmm... Your dinner party menu literally made my mouth water sitting right here at my desk... LOL! I agree shopping hungry is DANGEROUS!!!! Have a great day:)

grannyannie on 03/07/2013:
Yes, shopping when hungry is VERY dangerous!

biscottibody59 on 03/07/2013:
Have a great day--lots of sweating I guess!

grannyannie on 03/07/2013:
The class was pure torture! Not as hot as usual but I drank 1/2 litre of water in 30 mins.

Umpqua on 03/07/2013:
Your high calorie day foods sound awesome. Have a good one!

grannyannie on 03/07/2013:
Haven't made that meal for our friends yet. Overdo. Thanks.

V on 03/07/2013:
Hope you had the chance to finish your book :)I wanna come for dinner too I promise not to eat the cookies or ice cream but YES to the wine :P Hope your day was spectacular Annie <3

grannyannie on 03/08/2013:
I'd rather not serve ice cream with the cookies (low sugar & fat) but dessert is expected. But I don't want the leftovers in the house. Might try to think of a lower cal/fat idea.

(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 141.4

Would be nice if the scale went down a pound every single day! But that's not possible or a good idea.

Supposed to be a rest day but I did a 4 mile power walk down our road. I've been wanting to get outside. It's chilly out but there was no wind and I warmed up within a mile. I'll start taking rest days again this weekend.

Workout:

  • 4 mile power walk

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  Quorn patty w/low fat cheddar on 1 slice of whole grain bread and extra light mayo, plain fat free yogurt w/fresh raspberries
  • S:  banana
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts
  • S:  clementine, 3 oatcakes w/low fat cheddar
  • Lots of teas and water, black coffee

TOTAL:  1492

Springtime is in our garden!

Progress as of today: 25.6 lbs lost so far, only 13.4 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 03/05/2013:
Your flowers are beautiful!!! Are those irises? Glad you got your power walk in!! Do you take your camera with you on your walks?

grannyannie on 03/05/2013:
Those are crocuses. I take my phone which had a camera, but if I took my regular camera I'd be stopping too often to get in a good walk.

thenewMLE on 03/05/2013:
I want to take my camera on my bike rides because some of the sites of the boats on the river at sunset are really nice, but I don't want to stop. Maybe I will just have to schedule a photography ride and not worry about my speed or cadence that day!

grannyannie on 03/05/2013:
That's what I do. Exercise is separate from photo-taking trips.

getmebackto150 on 03/05/2013:
Wouldn't it be great if the scale ALWAYS went down every day??? Your menu looks great!

Puddles on 03/05/2013:
I love to see the crocuses come out in spring through the snow. It is the sure sign that winter is over. Have a great day. I agree the scale is not always co-operative lol lol

grannyannie on 03/05/2013:
Very little snow for us this year which is fine with me! Love when the flowers begin to bloom.

Umpqua on 03/05/2013:
Beautiful crocus - I can't wait for ours to appear (I planted a few new varieties in the fall)! Congrats on the continued loss, you are doing great.

grannyannie on 03/05/2013:
Thanks! I had hoped never to see 140 again, but oops...

biscottibody59 on 03/05/2013:
Still good to see the scale move down I'm sure! Good going on the Power Walk! (woops--hit the button and didn't think it was activating:-)

V on 03/05/2013:
In a perfect world you wold be able to do so but i think you are doing an awesome job just the same Annie :) Have a stellar evening my friend :)

(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 142.2

Guess the 3.6 lb loss since Friday is now more than just fluid and is now becoming fat loss. My belly is a bit smaller.

I'm anxious to go out and power walk or ride my bike, but still too chilly. I will power walk when it hits 10C/50F if it's not windy or wet.

Getting a new heating system installed in 10 days (air heat pump) so the house will be in a mess soon and cold while the heat is off.  Our heating costs will be cut by about 2/3!

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins treadmill
  • 5 mins rowing machine
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-4 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post gym workout:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  grilled low fat cheddar on whole grain bread, plain fat free yogurt w/fresh raspberries & strawberries
  • D:  tofu curry & rice, salad w/walnuts
  • S:  apple
  • Lots of teas and water

TOTAL:  1496

Progress as of today: 24.8 lbs lost so far, only 14.2 lbs to go!

Puddles on 03/04/2013:
Good job keep it up. Have a great day.

grannyannie on 03/04/2013:
Thanks!

getmebackto150 on 03/04/2013:
Glad to hear our weight continues down and yes I agree now turning into fat loss! I think heating costs cut by 2/3 is worth a short period of cold and mess... Heat is EXPENSIVE!!! Your menu and workout looks great!!!

I saw you post on Umpqua's diary that you used to be a vegan too, I did as well, but it is HARD!!! Are you still vegetarian? Or eat mostly vegetarian??

supercheese on 03/04/2013:
aww yay for losing belly fat :D !!

Umpqua on 03/04/2013:
Good going on your loss, you'll be back down at goal in no time. Maintaining is the hardest part - it always has been for me!

V on 03/04/2013:
Nicely done Annie! I love your workouts for today :) I really miss doing that 7 minute arm routine, I do so many dam pushups in most every workout, my arms are pretty much cashed every day.Tomorrow I am shooting for it though since I am working the lower body.. i will let ya know how I did :) Have a wonderful day <3

Looking good! Those pounds are going, going and soon-to-be GONE--woo-hoo!

I wonder if you've got a super-duper, special jumprope? I'm not anywhere near fit enough to do it now--but I will be attempting it (again) in the future. I used to use a plain rope, but I have one with handles that I bought quite a long time ago.

grannyannie on 03/03/2013:
Thanks. I give it till the 1st of May to get it all off!

grannyannie - Friday Mar 01, 2013
(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 145.8

Thanks for comments yesterday! Went to the gym then grocery shopping today. No junk food whatsoever. I'm also trying to keep artificial and real sugar to a bare minimum. So I bought plain, fat free yogurt and raspberries & strawberries to mix in and will eat it without any sweetener. Didn't buy any hot chocolate mixes either - fake sugar.

I got on the scale this morning and updated my status.

In the UK weight is measured in stones (14 lbs) and pounds. So I have to lose at least 1 stone. Goal is before May 1st.

Workout at gym:

  • 30 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins treadmill
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 5 mins rowing machine (wanted to do 10 mins for a solid 60 min cardio but ran out of steam!)
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/slivered almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout: 2 oatcakes w/natural pb
  • L:  chicken breast sandwich on whole grain bread w/extra light mayo
  • S:  red grapes
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad
  • S:  plain, non-fat yogurt w/fresh raspberries, glass of V8
  • Lots of water and teas
TOTAL:  1502

A couple more pics from our trip:

Progress as of today: 21.2 lbs lost so far, only 17.8 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 03/01/2013:
Thank you for sharing your trip photos with us! :-D Hope you have a good day.

thenewMLE on 03/01/2013:
Your pics are gorgeous!! What a wonderful trip. You brought back very fond memories for me. I went to France when I was 16 and my strongest memory was the french bread, butter and homemade jams for breakfast! I also learned how to drink tea with out milk in it there. I wish I could return as the seasoned photographer I am now... Glad you enjoyed your trip. Your weight should come off like it always has plus you got to enjoy a wonderful memorable dining experience! I'm leaving for natchez after work and I will be out for lunch so I probably won't post today but I'll be back Monday. Have a great weekend!

Puddles on 03/01/2013:

grannyannie - Thursday Feb 28, 2013
(Healthy food-fitness-getting back to ideal weight)
Weight: 138.0

Hope all of you are doing well and getting/staying healthy and fit.

Back from France and had a fantastic time even though it was unusually cold. After the architecture and character in medieval villages, my favourite French thing is the gorgeous food. So with the weight gain from a month in Uganda and the week in France I've got quite a bit to lose. Don't know what my weight is but I can see and feel the excess. I won't change the number in my status until I weigh myself in a couple of days.

We stayed at friends' house in the southern Rhone-Alpes region of France, so is Meditteranean in climate and foods. Our host/hostess are fantastic cooks! Lunch and dinner were both large meals with wine served at both, and breakfast mainly being fresh French bread with butter and homemade jam, sometimes Pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant), clementines, bananas.

Some of the other foods we ate: many kinds of salads at both lunch and dinner, fresh French bread (white/brown/seeded) at all 3 meals

paella, prawns, mussels, scallops, squid, clams, chicken, guinea fowl, ham, sausages, tuna, mignon of pork, vegetable soup

varieties of cheeses usually served at the end of both lunch and dinner

fruit salads, crepes, potatoes, veggies

chocolate whisky cake, chocolates, nougat (the nearest town is the nougat capitol), real hot chocolate

beer, wine - red, rose, white, champagne, pastis (liquer)

Soooo......I'm back on track beginning tomorrow. Back to the gym and counting every calorie.

A few of the photos from our trip - we stayed in and were surrounded by medieval villages.

Progress as of today: 29 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

Puddles on 02/28/2013:
You sound like you had a wonderful time. Glad to have you back.

V on 02/28/2013:
Welcome back Annie!! I missed ya..beautiful pics and next time I think you SHOULD take me to France with you guys...LOL Seriously the food all sounds amazing and I LOVE the fact that Cheese(my favorite) is served as dessert there :P YUMMMMM

OhioRaven on 03/01/2013:
Good to finally hear from you. I got your post late. Glad you're back safe and sound. Please book me and V with you next time. I like (love) the old cities. I'd like a time traveler.

Ugh! I've been snacking and pigging out. Way too much wine at our friends' on Saturday night. Tomorrow we go to Edinburgh to spend the night as our flight is early Weds morning.

Haven't stepped on the scale for several days.

Lovely day today. Cold but sunny.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 15 mins treadmill
  • 10 mins rowing machine
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12

Menu:

Healthy eating plus I stopped at the chocolate shop to get a gift for our hosts in France and picked up a small bag of chocolate buttons for myself which I've already eaten.

Going to have to get VERY strict when we come back from France!!!

Progress as of today: 29 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

OhioRaven on 02/18/2013:
You've been a Bad Girl, Annie ! Now, be a good girl .

V on 02/18/2013:
UH oh.. I know how much you like the buttons..Well I am sure the price of chocolate in France may deter you from buying it there, LOL. I am sure you are getting pretty excited for your trip :) I am sure it will be a blast! RYC yes I am hoping for a little downtime ater I finish cooking and before I go over to my friend's.. All they want to do is play tag..LOL That is really refreshing seeing as though most kids would rather play computer games or veg in front of the telly.. I have a feeling i will be worn out later..Hahahaha..Have a great day Annie <3
