Today I am grateful for that we don't get much snow and it doesn't stay long when it does!  (had flurries yesterday but didn't stick)

Flurries coming down the loch during sunset, which made the sky look a strange colour:

Less coughing, less nose blowing today.  Slowly but surely.

Mostly clean eating today - if I can stay away from the caramel rice cakes! Also doing quite a few taste tests of husband's delicious home brewed beer.

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Great colors in that picture! Good to hear the cold is slowly giving up on you:-)

V on 10/27/2012:
What a cool picture :) I hope your weekend is going great for you :)

thinkpositive on 10/28/2012:
Sorry you've been sick for so long.Love the picture.

thenewmle on 10/28/2012:
Beautiful picture Annie! That cold is stilling hanging on? That's a pretty stubborn bug you got! We don't get any snow. Maybe once every 10 years we get some flurries, but its a rarity. I left for work Friday in a sleeveless top, jeans and sandals at 86 degrees at 6am. After work we left for Baton Rouge and as we stood outside waiting for our tickets it dropped 30 degrees! Of course I didn't have a jacket and it was uncomfortable, but today was in the 50s and 60s and lovely! Hope you wake up tomorrow and that cold is history!

Today I am grateful for sunshine and autumn colours!

Have a great weekend, ladies!

Made it to the gym today. Decent workout but certainly not a full one. Clean eating today.

Workout at gym:

  • 15 mins treadmill (couldn't do any more so didn't push it)
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12
I will do a full strength training routine at home tomorrow.

I have an appointment to get my teeth cleaned Tuesday so hope there is no coughing and no need to blow my nose.

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 10/26/2012:
Yay for getting back into the workouts, that's my goal for next week. Hope you have a nice weekend!

V on 10/26/2012:
Great workout yesterday Annie! Happy Friday :)

TheMother on 10/26/2012:
I so miss the autumn color of the trees although we do get a little (and I mean a little) here in central FL in January. Hard to believe it comes that late but it does. Enjoy your fall weather.

Today I am grateful for friends!

Better than yesterday, coughing less, still blowing my nose. Depending on how I feel when I wake up tomorrow, I'll go to the gym but won't overdo.

Keeping up on the presidential campaigns in the US. Mailed in my absentee ballot a couple of weeks ago. I'll be staying up all night election night to watch the returns. I'd rather just stay up than to get up in the middle of night to watch. Needless to say, there will be snacking and alcohol!

Workout at home:

  • 40 mins on exercise bike

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  scrambled eggs w/reduced fat smoked sausage, multigrain toast, V8, cantaloupe
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  tofu curry & rice, salad
  • S:  skinny mocha, yogurt
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1467

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 10/25/2012:
Good to know your cold is finally letting up! Enjoy your workout and your day!

Today I am grateful for having enough energy to do a fairly decent workout!

I'm not dragging nearly as much as I was but just can't get my lungs cleared so still coughing. Also either runny nose or congestion. So I don't think the gym is a good idea yet. I was able to workout at home today, not quite the full strength workout but close.

I can attest that the traditional treatment for a chesty cough does work fairly well - lemon, whisky, honey and boiling water.

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
  • 20 mins on my exercise bike

Menu: (haven't been very good for more than 2 weeks so really need to get back on track!)

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk/cinnamon, tea w/milk
  • L:  salad w/walnuts/3 clementines/2 ginger lime Quorn fillets, 1 slice multigrain w/Benecol spread
  • S:  cantaloupe
  • D:  veggie curry & rice
  • S:  yogurt, skinny mocha
  • Lots of teas & water

TOTAL:  1354

Hope you hit 100% well soon! I thought about you while I tried planks for the first time. I realized I have no core or it is just rotten like an apple!! I am trying to increase to more than 2 twists but my muscles are still screaming from the weekend!! I admire that you have that kind of strength to be able to do SETS of things! That was my grandma's recipe for a cold - but it was just honey and lemon and whiskey - no water!

V on 10/24/2012:
Awesome job on getting your workout in Annie..Have a wonderful evening <3

Today I am grateful that I'm finally getting better.

Thanks for all your well-wishes during my whining.

Clean eating today.  Will do my strength training this afternoon and some time on my exercise bike. Will go the gym tomorrow and see what I can do. Will not even try spin class Thursday! I'd swear my glutes are heading south again.

I'll browse the blogs today and catch up on how you all are doing.

Still have a cold after 9 days although it's much better. No exercise, won't even mention what I've been eating and drinking. Our friends went back home yesterday. My husband went with them into town every day to enjoy the Gaelic music and festival. I just couldn't do it but did manage to eat out with them Friday night.  My husband now has the cold though.

The scale says I'm 130.4 but I'm wondering if that's because all my muscles have dissolved?!   J/K.

Healthy eating today, but that's because all the junk has been eaten! I don't know if I can manage the gym tomorrow as I'm still coughing and blowing my nose, but I do need to go grocery shopping. I will at least do my strength training at home.

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Ugh.  Coughing coughing coughing.

No gym again. Really hard to workout when you're blowing your nose and coughing non-stop.

Taking care of myself but hard to get good sleep when I wake myself up coughing. House is clean. Friends arrive in the morning. Just finished making brownies and they smell wonderful. My husband who is most definitely not a sweets eater thinks the smell is awful. What a weirdo!

Picked up some strawberries and raspberries but it will probably be the last time this season. The price is going up, up, up.

V on 10/15/2012:
I am so sorry that you still are not feeling better Annie.. Enjoy your guests :) P.S. your hubby is not the only weirdo, I am not a fan of chocolate or the smell of it either,LOL!

Get better soon my friend <3

thenewMLE on 10/17/2012:
Feel better Annie - I feel your pain now! I think even if I had a pan of hot brownies in front of me, I would pass only because I have lost my appetite and really can't smell anything either. Maybe this will result in a little scale movement? Have fun with your guests. Do you feel like you are at the end of your cold? Hope it doesn't last too long!

thinkpositive on 10/20/2012:
Sorry to see that you are sick just when your guests will be arriving. Hope you are up to enjoying their company.

Today I am grateful for lemon tea.

Cough, sniff, raw throat.

No workouts but I've been getting ready for our guests. Guest room is ready.  Baked oatmeal raisin cookies yesterday and froze them (except for the 2 I ate).

Today I'll finish housework, then rest. Might attempt to do some strength training, can at least do the 7 min arm video routine. Need to pick up a few things at the store tomorrow but not sure if I'll stop into the gym.

Really hope I don't give my cold to the female half of the couple as she's here to sing!

Bummer on getting sick. We have been lucky here so far in that older son and I have recovered from our colds without hubby and younger son getting sick. I think this is a first! Rest up and I hope you feel better soon.

Ugh. Sore throat!  Could barely speak when I woke up (which my hubby enjoyed!) Felt it coming on yesterday. Wouldn't be so bad except we have guests coming Tuesday and staying until Saturday! Not going to the gym this morning. Just going to get some laundry done and otherwise stay on the sofa with a big pot of lemon tea and tons of diluted juice.

Planning to do my strength routines tomorrow and maybe some time on my exercise bike. Got too much to do before guests come! Housework, bake oatmeal/raisin cookies, bake French  bread, bake brownies, make pasta sauce..... ack!!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Umpqua on 10/12/2012:
Oh geez, I hope you can banish the sore throat before it progresses. Beautiful picture from yesterday, you are so lucky to have ruins like that close by. On my few trips to Europe I have marveled at just how old the architecture is - we don't have anything that comes close in this country. Have a great day!

V on 10/12/2012:
Wow so much to do and sorry your throat is giving you grief :( Hope the tea will help your throat, if not maybe a hot toddy before bedtime this evening.. Have a great weekend as well!

Today I am grateful for the amazing historical sites all around me!

Skipped spin bike class today to do a tour of a church with a long history down our road. I've lived here 12 years and never did a tour, just wandered around taking pics. Didn't bring my camera today and wish I had. They had the most amazing stained glass windows - unlike any I've seen.  A bit of history:  http://www.argyllmausoleum.org/index.asp?pageid=347039

This is a pic I took last year.  The ruin is from the 12th century, but some type of church/monastery/burial ground has been on this site since the 8th century. I love this country!!

Eating today...hmm... well after my tour of the church I went into town for lunch and grocery shopping. Had a bacon roll and hot chocolate. Then when I went shopping some chocolate-covered ginger biscuits jumped into my trolley.    I love them and haven't had them for years.

Guest next week and I've bought a brownie mix, low fat ice cream, trail mix.

nunnermack on 10/11/2012:
Beautiful!!! As I lay recovering, I've been watching BBC's "Doc Martin". Love the scenery and I would love to live in Port Issac (I think it's in Cornwall??) You are such a lucky lady to live in such beautiful scenery. Someday I hope to get to England, Scotland and Ireland!!! I just love anything with old history. And I really think they get it right...a cuppa does cure everything. Cheeers and have a lovely day!!!

liza36 on 10/11/2012:
I love stained glass windows. It must have been lovely!

thenewMLE on 10/11/2012:
Beautiful picture Annie! I can't believe you didn't bring your camera for the church tour!! Light through stained glass is one of my favorite subjects! I know about stuff jumping into the basket - would you believe today a piece of fried chicken jumped in mine?? My co-worker brought a piece back from a lunch and said to taste it. After saying no thank you 4 times, it smelled insanely fabulous, I pulled just a little piece off. Well, it was the thigh - my favorite part! And it was spicy and crunchy and juicy....Long story longer, I washed my hands 5 times as I kept swearing that was my last taste until I had cleaned it to the bones!! Oh, well, I hadn't had a misstep like that EVER!! I hope you enjoy your company!

biscottibody59 on 10/11/2012:
Those biscuits (in US cookies?) sound lovely. You gotta have a treat from time to time:-)

Thanks for sharing the pic!

V on 10/11/2012:
You always find the most interesting places to check out, that is one of many things that I love about you Annie :) I am not sure what your profession was before you retired but you would be an excellent history teacher IMO :) Have a wonderful evening!
