Today I am grateful for my good health!

The annual Highland Games began here yesterday and finish Saturday night. Lots of competitors from around the world, especially Canada and the US--traditional Scottish games, highland dancing, bagpipes, etc. We don't go to the games any more but do try to get to the March Past at the very end when all the pipers march down the town's main street.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 15 mins treadmill
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/strawberries/cinnamon/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout: trail mix w/raisins/dried apricots/almonds/walnuts 125 cals
  • L:  4 oatcakes w/liver pate, low fat cheddar; galia melon
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt w/fresh strawberries
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1294

Have a fantastic weekend, ladies!

Progress as of today: 35.4 lbs lost so far, only 3.6 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 08/24/2012:
The Highland Games sound spectacular! I'm sure you will have more bagpiper photos that look like something from a travel magazine! I'm going to get my livercheese this weekend. I wonder how much healthier it is without the porkfat wrap? I have always pulled that off, the that's before I really looked at nutritional info. I hope all the bad stuff is just in that porkfat. I guess I could look up liver pate for a reference because I only looked up livercheese. Oh, well, I'm craving it anyway!! Enjoy the games and have a lovely weekend!

liza36 on 08/24/2012:
How fun to see the Highland Games, or the bagpipes at least. Have a great weekend.

thenewMLE on 08/24/2012:
Thanks for the info on the pate. That is at least a better estimate than I had from the package including the pork fat! My brain must have been tired yesterday because I kept trying to search for the nutritional info without the fat and of course I came up with nothing! So your pretty weather is over for now?

biscottibody59 on 08/24/2012:
I want to say I had a HS classmate who took part in an event at a "Highland Games"--I cannot remember what it was--throwing something I think? Like a hammer throw perhaps?

Oh well, I hope you have an enjoyable weekend with good weather too:-)

Maria7 on 08/24/2012:
I LOVE to hear the bagpipes played, too. (Also, I play the accordian.) :-D

V on 08/24/2012:
You always go to the neatest events! Love the bagpipes! I know i told ya before ;) hahaha,,Man Em keeps talking about liver cheese and now I want some :P Must put this on my grocery list..I actually found canned Pate at my store too so I guess I will go with the cheaper option(not sure how much either is? hummm) Have a great weekend Annie <3

sailingeagle on 08/24/2012:
Hi grannyannie! Thank you so much for your encouragement. Are you from Scotland? That is so cool! I admire your weight loss setup. I feel that I can learn alot from you. Have a wonderful time this weekend, and God bless. :)

selina on 08/25/2012:
Sounds like a fun festival! Enjoy!

I have an art blog which has been neglected for a while... I can't keep up with another blog, I'm afraid ;)

(Healthy food-getting super-fit)
Weight: 131.6

Today I am grateful for my wonderful, loving, patient husband!

Scale is down again (a little too fast but I'm not worried as I'm sure some is fluid loss). I might increase my calories on my heavy workout days to 1400. Felt a bit low on energy yesterday. Being the indulgent girl that I am  I've made a wee list of treats for when I hit goal weight..... that chocolate ice cream cone I posted a photo of a couple of weeks ago; or a bacon roll; or just a nice lunch out somewhere. Maybe I'll take advantage of the free bus and take a trip to a nice village I've been to many times and have lunch in one of the cafes.

http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/inveraray/inveraray/index.html

Workout:

  • 30 min spin bike torture....emmm...I mean class!

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout: 2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  2 Quorn (veggie) sausages on 1 slice multigrain w/mustard
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  apple
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1289

Hope you all have a lovely & healthy day!

Progress as of today: 35.4 lbs lost so far, only 3.6 lbs to go!

V on 08/23/2012:
Congrats on your loss Annie!

thenewMLE on 08/23/2012:
Congrats on your loss! Shoot for the treat - I would get the ice cream...) have a great day!

supercheese on 08/23/2012:
Have a great day and congrats on the loss!!

liza36 on 08/23/2012:
The village from the link looks lovely. I'd vote for that, and actually the chocolate ice cream too. It would be just like me to treat myself twice!

biscottibody59 on 08/23/2012:
Way to go on your progress--keep it going!

selina on 08/23/2012:
Congrats Annie, way to go on the loss!

I shall post photos when I get my proper computer in the sea shipment. I'm using the laptop and this thing is not equipped with downloading photos app. :) Have a great day!

Hi grannyannie! Thanks for my warm welcome! Have a great weekend. :)

nunnermack on 08/23/2012:

And wow!! The scale is down again? You go girl!!!

Today I am grateful for my granddaughters! The 7 year old read me a book on Skype yesterday and the 2 year old sometimes listened.

Both my parents are gone but if they were still here they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Monday. This is one of my favourite pics of them. Think they were still newlyweds then.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike (seriously intense!)
  • 20 mins treadmill (power walk on an incline)
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines (included quad machine - no problem)
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
Workout at home: (will do after my lunch has digested)
  • dumbbells - 4 sets of 10 - 7 routines
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells (I'll know if my knee and quad are okay by how they feel when I do this)
  • thigh master
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  homemade trail mix - almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunfloweer seeds, raisins (157 cals)
  • L:  multigrain toast w/liver pate, oatcake, small glass of V8
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt & fresh raspberries
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1317

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

supercheese on 08/22/2012:
Wow, that picture is amazing!!! Captures the time so well and they are both very handsome :) Workout looks awesome!

thenewMLE on 08/22/2012:
Beautiful picture of your parents!! I worry about the future generation with pictures because now anyone can take anything but they don't print or label pictures anymore and when the computer hard drive fails, the pics are gone. And the pics that don't go away, who will know who the people are 60 years from now? In the past, photography was a luxury and people cherished and valued their photos. Liver pate, yum.. We don't really get that much but I used to enjoy it when we visited our friends in Canada. Maybe I will get some liver cheese and satisfy that craving. Have a nice day!

Maria7 on 08/22/2012:
What a happy-looking couple. :-)

V on 08/22/2012:
What a beautiful pic of your parents Annie! I think you look like your Mom <3 Thanks for sharing! That is so sweet that your granddaughter read a book to YOU, usually it's the other way around ;) Hope you had a great day my friend <3

selina on 08/22/2012:
wow! your parents were so good looking, especially your mom! Thanks for sharing!

(Healthy food-getting super-fit)
Weight: 132.0

Today I am grateful for fresh, sweet fruit, a soothing hot shower, and classical music. I am also grateful that today is the day I get extra calories!

Wanted to shake up my routine so did a tae bo this morning. My knee is still a bit sore but I only notice during certain moves. I'm sure I hurt my quad and knee during the week I did all the biking, especially trying to ride up a steep hill along with a very intense strength spin bike class.

Scale is down again but it appears I've lost 2 pounds since Thursday. Although I do feel smaller I suspect at least some of that is fluid loss. I'm keeping an eye on the scale and my energy level to see if I may need to adjust my calories upward.

Workout:

  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  cantaloupe
  • L:  2 Quorn (veggie) sausages, 2 eggs, 1 slice soya/linseed, 6g Benecol spread
  • S:  plain greek yogurt w/fresh raspberries, small glass of V8
  • D:  veggie curry, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  skinny mocha, dark chocolate squares (85% cocoa)
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1687

Progress as of today: 35 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

V on 08/21/2012:
Congrats on your steady drop on the scale :) I hope your knee feels better <3

sweetpea1977 on 08/21/2012:
Taebo is a great workout!

I hope your knee feels better soon!!

Maria7 on 08/21/2012:
Yes, we def have to monitor our energy levels to make sure we are consuming enough nutrients daily. That is an important one. Hope you have a good day. :-)

hollybelle on 08/21/2012:
Glad you are taking care of your knee. I am so afraid of knee pain! Luckily I'm ok at the moment, but I try to stay aware.

biscottibody59 on 08/21/2012:
Hope you continue to get over the soreness--take it easy if you have to!

Today I am grateful that my sweetheart and I are both retired, healthy & fit!

  • bridge (for glutes)

Thanks for asking - the bruises, contusions and abrasions are all healing pretty nicely. The lower elbow will be the longest to heal. It's still quite tender to pressure, but I can move it with no trouble. Sigh :-/

Maria7 on 08/19/2012:
Wow, you're almost at your goal! :-D

Maria7 on 08/19/2012:
Missed you, too! How's everything over your way in Scotland?

grannyannie - Saturday Aug 18, 2012
(Healthy food-getting super-fit)
Weight: 133.4

Today I am grateful for friends and sunny days!

Met up with the friend I ran into at the gym on Tuesday (after 5 years!). We met up for lunch today and had a nice long chat for 2 hours. She is a fanatic about staying slim so she's not a bad influence.   We both had lentil soup, tea, and I had a roll w/butter but she skipped the bread.

Proud of myself for passing up the yummy looking chocolate pies, the other chocolate goodies and other sweets. But I kept in mind the plan I've made for myself. Keep to my calorie limit for 6 days and on the 7th I get to have up to 1700 cals. It's amazing what a difference 400 cals can make!

Workout:

  • dumbbells - 4 sets of 10 - 7 routines
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells (only did 1 set of 10/leg instead of 4 sets as my quads on one leg are still sore although I don't know it until I do lunges or stretch)
  • thigh master

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  restaurant with friend:  lentil soup, tea w/milk, a brown roll w/small amount butter
  • S: 2 clementines
  • D:  veggie chili & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt & fresh strawberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  had to estimate on the lunch so I'd guess about 1400 max.

Hope you all have a lovely & healthy weekend!

Progress as of today: 33.6 lbs lost so far, only 5.4 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 08/18/2012:
I imagine it's good to have someone who is a pretty good influence like that around food challenges!

grannyannie - Thursday Aug 16, 2012
(Healthy food-getting super-fit)
Weight: 134.0

Today I am grateful for good books to read, my husband's sense of humour, the BBC.

I really need to shake up my workouts but not sure what to do. I am in a rut but my workouts are all good. A normal week is 2 hrs 15 mins a week on a spin bike, 45 to 60 mins on the elliptical. And 5 hours is a variety of strength training. I do like to power walk, hike, or ride my 'real' bike when the weather cooperates, but that's not often enough. I guess I can look at the 3 hours of strength training I do at home and make some changes, or rotate routines on different days.

I'm still trying to get rid of those extra pounds I picked up on our holiday in Michigan in June! So I have promised myself no more cheating! My plan is 1300 cals for 6 days straight, then 1700 on the 7th day. I might increase the cals to 1400/day if I feel short of energy. This is what worked for me before - when I reached goal in the autumn. Social occasions will of course blow my plans to he**.   But that's okay if it's not too often.

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin bike class which is always intense

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 oatcakes w/organic unsweetened pb
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  tofu/chickpea/veg curry & rice, salad w/walnuts & slivered almonds, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt w/fresh raspberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1290

Progress as of today: 33 lbs lost so far, only 6 lbs to go!

liza36 on 08/16/2012:
Your workouts are impressive so unfortunately I don't have any good suggestions on how to change it up. I'm sure others will. What I'm impressed with is your consistency with it all. If you could bottle some of that and send it my way, that would be great! Have a great day.

thinkpositive on 08/16/2012:
Just wonder if the Dr. Furhman diet would get rid of those vacation pounds? I think it's a good way to break the routine and still feel full and satisfied. At least it's working for me right now. As far as your workouts, it seems that you are putting in alot of hours and work. Very impressive!

biscottibody59 on 08/16/2012:
Sounds like a plan to get your where you want to be--keep up the good work!

sweetpea1977 on 08/16/2012:
Do you know if you're hitting your Target Heartrate during your cardio workouts? If not, then that may explain the plateau. Doing short HIIT routines after your weight training may help boost your metabolism.

Its also possible that your calorie intake is too low for your energy needs. Have you used a calories needed calculator to determine what your body needs at your age, weight, and physical activity level?

biscottibody59 on 08/16/2012:
RYC: Actually I had the cake about 6 hrs before "normal" bedtime.

V on 08/16/2012:
Hello Annie :) Sweetpea actually brings up a valid point, you know with as much activity that you do daily, perhaps you might not be getting enough fuel? Anyhoo I am sure whatever you set out to do, you will succeed! You got this my friend...Oh BTW, I posted the workout I did today on my diary, gotta check it out :)
