Today I am grateful for the amazing historical sites all around me!

Skipped spin bike class today to do a tour of a church with a long history down our road. I've lived here 12 years and never did a tour, just wandered around taking pics. Didn't bring my camera today and wish I had. They had the most amazing stained glass windows - unlike any I've seen.  A bit of history:  http://www.argyllmausoleum.org/index.asp?pageid=347039

This is a pic I took last year.  The ruin is from the 12th century, but some type of church/monastery/burial ground has been on this site since the 8th century. I love this country!!

Eating today...hmm... well after my tour of the church I went into town for lunch and grocery shopping. Had a bacon roll and hot chocolate. Then when I went shopping some chocolate-covered ginger biscuits jumped into my trolley.    I love them and haven't had them for years.

Guest next week and I've bought a brownie mix, low fat ice cream, trail mix.

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Beautiful!!! As I lay recovering, I've been watching BBC's "Doc Martin". Love the scenery and I would love to live in Port Issac (I think it's in Cornwall??) You are such a lucky lady to live in such beautiful scenery. Someday I hope to get to England, Scotland and Ireland!!! I just love anything with old history. And I really think they get it right...a cuppa does cure everything. Cheeers and have a lovely day!!!

liza36 on 10/11/2012:
I love stained glass windows. It must have been lovely!

thenewMLE on 10/11/2012:
Beautiful picture Annie! I can't believe you didn't bring your camera for the church tour!! Light through stained glass is one of my favorite subjects! I know about stuff jumping into the basket - would you believe today a piece of fried chicken jumped in mine?? My co-worker brought a piece back from a lunch and said to taste it. After saying no thank you 4 times, it smelled insanely fabulous, I pulled just a little piece off. Well, it was the thigh - my favorite part! And it was spicy and crunchy and juicy....Long story longer, I washed my hands 5 times as I kept swearing that was my last taste until I had cleaned it to the bones!! Oh, well, I hadn't had a misstep like that EVER!! I hope you enjoy your company!

biscottibody59 on 10/11/2012:
Those biscuits (in US cookies?) sound lovely. You gotta have a treat from time to time:-)

Thanks for sharing the pic!

V on 10/11/2012:
You always find the most interesting places to check out, that is one of many things that I love about you Annie :) I am not sure what your profession was before you retired but you would be an excellent history teacher IMO :) Have a wonderful evening!

Today I am very grateful for sunshine and how blue it makes the water!

The 'old lady' swimsuits I bought yesterday. I'll try again in springtime for tankinis.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins treadmill (too much chatting today!)
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 5 resistance machines (chest press was out of order)
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12
  • back lifts on half ball - 3 sets of 10

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)

Clean eating today....that's the plan anyway!

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

LOVE the suits!! You look great!! You are an inspiration to dedication and achieving results!!

zoe1 on 10/10/2012:
Looking great!:)

inmorning on 10/10/2012:
I love you in the suits. Thanks for you kind comments always. I wanted to tell you a funny story about "old lady suits". My daughters like the animal prints, which I sort of detest. I just don't like them for whatever reason. A couple of years ago, I bought my daughter a swimsuit I hated but I thought she would like because they were an animal print of some sort. I got it home and gave it to her and noticed she was trying to be polite but didn't like it. We had to go to some function with some others at the synagogue and there was a new guy there that was understudying the rabbi. (In Hawaii, nobody really thinks twice about going to the beach and wearing swimwear around each other unless it is really skimpy or something). She begged me to trade suits with her because she didn't want to wear the "granny" suit. Being a mum who loves her kids, I finally relented and traded. To add insult to my injury of wearing a suit I did not like one bit, I got a little weak and asked her to trade back before we put them on. She says, "No way am I wearing the menopause suit". Anyway, I hope the story made you smile. Yours, btw, are in no way old lady suits and they look lovely.

LifeInATeaCup on 10/10/2012:
Thanks! I'm glad to be back! And the swimsuits look great! (And btw, I love the picture of the flowers in the background) :)

Umpqua on 10/10/2012:
Annie you look fantastic! Those are SO not old lady swimsuits, they are extremely flattering and you should be proud of the way you look. You are inspiring me to get my butt in gear!

sweetpea1977 on 10/10/2012:
lol, those are not old lady swimsuits!! I had a completely different picture in my head when I read that! Anyway, you look great!!!

Love the photos you posted yesterday too!

liza36 on 10/10/2012:
You look fabulous in the suits, and they are not "old lady" as I was expecting.

V on 10/10/2012:
You look fantastic Annie! I like both suits :) Your hair has gotten longer since the last pic you posted.. You are looking fit and fine my friend! RYC agreed men are NOT organized at all..LOL Have a great evening!

Today I am grateful for Glasgow stores and restaurants!

Spent the day in Glasgow in a last ditch search for a swimsuit. Very little choice as it's past the end of season. However, I found two! Both are one-piece and were not what I would have chosen if there was a huge variety. But they'll do.They fit although one is a UK 8 and one is a 10 (I think that's a 6 and 8 US). The 8 is a more snug fit, but still okay. There were plenty of bikinis on sale but most didn't have the matching top/bottom. I might post a pic of me in one of the suits tomorrow.

Took some pics with my phone camera. The ferry I take, and a view of our peninsula.

Exercise today....lots of walking! Meals....no comment!

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

zoe1 on 10/09/2012:
The pictures are beautifull:)

V on 10/09/2012:
Nice Pics! Congrats for finding 2 suits! Yayyy The two piece are impossible to find a perfect match for me since my boobs are rather small(that is being generous! LOL)and I have curvy hips..I have my only 2 piece that fits perfectly, by Roxy(they are surf inspired suits) Anyhoo I am sure you will look fabulous in both! Have a great evening Annie!

Maria7 on 10/09/2012:
Oh, how BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for sharing these pics with us! :-D

Today I am grateful that I'm a spoiled westerner and don't live in crushing poverty!

Goal for today is clean eating.

Last chance to try on swimsuits so am going for a day of shopping in Glasgow tomorrow. Big sales on but choices will be limited. I'll just have to buy whatever I can find that fits. Will have access to a couple of swimming pools while we are in Uganda in January. I'd prefer not to have to buy a bikini but will if I have to.

We are debating whether to spend a couple of nights at a very expensive lodge in Uganda, my favourite!

Still can't upload photos, even small ones. Has that ability been removed due to bandwidth limits?

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins treadmill
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12
  • back lifts on half ball - 3 sets of 10

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

V on 10/08/2012:
Good morning! I think a couple of nights at your fave lodge sounds awesome:) Sorry I can't answer your photo question, you might want to ask Supercheese, she posted a pic a few days ago, maybe she can help you out..I hope you find the perfect swimsuit, have a great day Annie :)

thenewMLE on 10/08/2012:
Hey Annie! I'm trying to post a pic right now (VERY SMALL) and it just won't send to the server. I thought the server might be down so I was going to wait a little while. Good luck with your swim suit shopping!

biscottibody59 on 10/08/2012:
The webmaster may not be aware of the picture problem after the maintenance to the site from last week--maybe send an email.

Enjoy your day and week!

Maria7 on 10/08/2012:
Sounds like you have been very busy making plans for your trip. :-) Hope you are having a good day.

sweetpea1977 on 10/08/2012:
I say go for the expensive lodge. You only live once so enjoy your favorite place some more!! :)

Great workout routine!!

liza36 on 10/08/2012:
Good luck with your swimsuit shopping. I agree with Sweetpea - go for the good place you love!

Today I am grateful for another day of sunshine!

3 months from tomorrow we fly to Uganda for a 4 week visit. Very excited about seeing our friends and the country. I've just managed to find a programme on my android phone that lets me upload a Word file which has all my Runyankole notes (language of the SW area). I loved using the language when we lived there and the locals were always so delighted.

This is a non-workout day and clean eating.

Have a happy Sunday everybody.

Today I am grateful for sunshine which we are forecast to have the next 3 days!

A non-workout day.

I am battling my 'oatcake addiction'. I find it so easy to just take one out of the cupboard, then another, and another. The calories add up at 36 cals for the thinner ones and 43 for the rough ones. There is no junk food in the house at all so they have become my indulgence. I like the thin ones much better by themselves so I'm just going to buy the rough ones. Don't want to give them up as they are healthy and are my favourite after gym workout snack (with pb). Ingredients: oats, oil, salt. The scale jumped to 130 a couple of days ago so I need to behave. Doesn't sound like a huge gain but 130 can easily turn into 140, etc....

Tried to upload a photo of oatcakes but the site isn't letting me do it.  ?

Week after next we have guests (another 'mixed' couple - Scottish & American) who will stay for 4 nights. The American is a Scottish folk singer and Gaelic choir singer and she'll be participating in this annual event. This year it just happens to be in our town. http://www.dunoonmod2012.org/

Have an amazing weekend, ladies!

Happy Friday :)

liza36 on 10/05/2012:
What are you reading? I just started a book yesterday called Freakonomics. A so-called young brillant economist here in the US looks at economics in a totally different way. It's for book club, so the girl who picked it said it would produce good discussion. I don't generally go around reading economics books!

Have a good weekend.

Maria7 on 10/05/2012:
Looks like you are getting in a good workout. :-)

I'm with you on the gratefulness for today... I love my books and honestly don't think I could live without them :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

I love good books too. I am not sure what I would do without them. I even like to listen to audiobooks when I don't have time to sit down and read.

Today I am grateful for the area I call home!

I don't know how she manages but my spin bike instructor finds ways to make each class a little bit tougher. It was so intense today!!

After class husband and I went to our botanic gardens for a 'fungal foray' looking for different mushrooms with an expert. About 30 people there. Really just booked it because I knew my hubby would enjoy it but I found it interesting as well. At the end we got tea/coffee and a big variety of homemade goodies. Yum!

Workout:

  • 30 mins intense spin bike class

Menu:

No comment! Not great.

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

liza36 on 10/04/2012:
I still have not tried spinning. So many people love it. I'm not sure I have the strength and stamina for it. Maybe someday I'll try it.

I'm sure your intense class counteracted your "no comment" menu!

zoe1 on 10/04/2012:
I tried spinning and didn't enjoy it. The seats weren't very comfortable.

V on 10/04/2012:
Girl don't worry don't stress about your intake today, I am sure that intense spin class took care of most of the calories! Have a great evening <3

TheMother on 10/04/2012:
Just checking in to see how you're doing. Your excursion sounds "interesting". My hubby wouldn't have liked it though because he absolutely HATES mushrooms of any kind. It's always nice to get a goody bag. Enjoy the treats!!!!

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 10/03/2012:
Great workout! Do you take vitamins or iron supplement? Maybe the fatigue is vitamin related? I little chocolate might remedy that too! Have a great day.

V on 10/03/2012:
I was going to ask the same about the vitamins..How much sleep do you average per night? The reason I ask is I realized that i wasn't getting nearly enough for as much activity that I get in(work, workouts) I usually feel a bit sluggish in the morning if I stay up past 11pm..Anyhoo sorry for the long post about my sleep habits, i am sure it is boring you to zzzz's LOL

Thanks for the wishful thinking..It is really storming now, I am indeed off from work..If only I had a transporter, I could zap myself there and do your at home workout with you and perhaps a glass(or two) of vino with ya afterwards ;) Have a great day Annie <3

supercheese on 10/03/2012:
Ahahaha i bought yogurt covered pretzels and that was my downfall to my eating too but great job on the workout!!

liza36 on 10/03/2012:
Enjoy clean eating today. That's actually my goal for today too. I can handle one day, right?!

Maria7 on 10/03/2012:

Today I am grateful for my washer and dryer!  (remembering the hand washing in Uganda!)

Calorie-counting day - 1400-ish. Woke up feeling really drained but felt better a bit later. I should be doing my strength routines that didn't get done yesterday but I'm going to let it slide this time as it might be overdoing. I did do a 'super-clean' on our hallway. It's a wide hallway with nothing in it but a photo gallery. I did a good dusting of the photo frames, baseboards, a few cobwebs, radiators, vacuuming the edges of carpet, vacuumed, and then shampooed the carpet.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  egg salad/onion/low fat mayo on multigrain bread, yogurt
  • S:  2 clementines, V8
  • D:  chicken curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  rice cake
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1415

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

V on 10/02/2012:
Glad to hear that you are feeling better :) Have a wonderful day!
