Hiya ladies!  Been very busy!  Tomorrow we get to see the baby (great niece) who was born the day before the wedding.  The mom was supposed to be a bridesmaid but was busy elsewhere!  

A covered bridge on the trail we did our long bike ride on Tuesday: 

Did my strength routine this morning and a LOT of walking this afternoon in an arboretum and to town.

  • squats/lunges - 4 sets of 20 each
  • side dips - 4 sets of 10 using a 15 lb kettlebell
  • hula hoops moves w/o the hula hoop!
  • triceps dips, back lifts, push ups - 3 sets of 10 each
  • planks - full - 10
  • planks alternating 1 arm 1 leg - 10
  • 4 types thighs/glutes leg lifts - 3 sets of 10 each (no ankle weights)
  • 3 types of abs


  • B:  wheat toast w/pbj
  • L:  hoped to pick up lunch at the arboretum but nothing there but snacks and no restaurants nearby - kashi bar, small packet of pretzels, pack of m & m's.
  • S:  small beer at a microbrewery -  so nice to sit outside for drinks/dinner!
  • D:  Went to Mongolian BBQ which is choose your ingredients and sauces and the cooks stir fry your choices.  Pasta, veggies, tofu, sausage.  Rice. Tortillas. Beer
  • S:  probably have one more beer

They don't sell it down this far south so I have to live vicariously through YOU ;) It is a tasty beer brewed in Kalamazoo <3 That is a beautiful picture..Good to see you are having fun and getting awesome workouts in too! Beautiful covered bridge. Very envious of the long ride. Tell me, when you rode this 34 mi route how many times did you stop, what was the terrain like and how long did it take you altogether? I am trying to figure out what is reasonable to allow. Last Sunday I rode 25 miles but I stopped because I wanted to for a snack. I'd like to have all day one day to do nothing but ride, top and go and snack along the way! Was going to try that last weekend, but didn't feel well. Have a wonderful trip and keep posting. How wonderful to be keeping up your workouts on vacaation!

Hi ladies!  Been very busy so not much time to write/read blogs, etc.  

Yesterday was the 34 mile bike ride, and today we did a LOT of walking.  

Food today....hmmm.....

  • B:  at hotel:  raisin bran, wheat toast w/pb, small piece of homemade banana walnut bread, strawberries, orange juice, mini cinnamon roll. (Hey, I was really hungry!)
  • S:  skinny cappuccino, 1 chocolate covered oreo
  • L:  chicken breast wrap w/dried cherries/walnuts/lettuce, potato chips
  • S:  1 beer
  • D:  grilled salmon, mashed potatoes, asparagus, 2 beers
  • S:  bowl of ice cream

Did a 34 mile bike ride today. So I guess it was ok to have cappucino chocolate chip ice cream.

Wedding was amazing!  The bride (my niece) who is gorgeous anyway was the prettiest bride I've ever seen.  Gorgeous dress. Beautiful ceremony, awesome reception.  200+ guests.  

Dinner was filet mignon and chicken, salad, lots of cakes, open bar. Lots of relatives and other people I don't get to see often 

Never got a pic of me in my slinky, elegant dress so I'll have to put it back on sometime for pic.  I was too busy having fun to take a lot of pics and this is the best of the few I did take - first dance.

Leaving tomorrow morning for a 2 night trip.  Doing the 33 mile bike ride on Tuesday.

Confession time:  dinner last night:  Cuban.  The restaurant was my nephew's choice as yesterday was his final day of high school.  Unusual burgers and all have skinny fries on top of them and then put on the bun (there IS the option of having them leave them off).  I had a black bean burger and the fries on top, and the family ordered 2 extra orders of fries with spicy mayo which were shared.  My drink was a thin passionfruit milkshake with rum.  So yummy!

Only had a bottle of beer when we got back to the house so less alcohol calories yesterday.

I won't mention the frozen mocha that I had at Panera at lunch! The brain freeze I got when I slurped too fast was my punishment for that! Ouch!

Breakfast today was a cinnamon toast and a whole wheat toast - butter.  Need to be good more often while I'm here or I'll regret it.

At noon I'm going with my SIL to a 50 min spin bike class!

The weather has turned weird.  High about 60F/15C today and it's raining.

The Cuban food sounds amazing Annie. They have a drink called a Brain Freeze out where my folks live (the PNW being the coffee capital of the country). It's like a frozen mocha with chunks of chocolate covered coffee beans swirled through ;P Enjoy your day!

Good morning, ladies!  

Breakfast this morning was 2 slices of some really yummy cinnamon bread, toasted with butter (no light spreads in the house).  

Just finished a strength routine:

  • squats/lunges - 4 sets of 20 each

No idea what's for lunch but for dinner we are going to a Cuban restaurant.  Will try to resist the fries and desserts.  

My downfall so far has been 1 bottle of beer before dinner and then red wine with dinner and in the evening. 

Went shopping yesterday for a dress for the wedding. Found one that is very complimentary figure-wise, although I don't really like the shoulders on it.  I'll be wearing my off-white linen jacket with it though unless I get too hot.  Had to buy new shoes as the dress is a royal blue and the shoes I brought were black.  So bought some off-white sandals with a short heel.  The wedding is Saturday and rain is predicted.  I know my niece is very unhappy about this!!

Will post a photo of me in my wedding attire.

Welcome to the States!! Hope you get a good night sleep to be ready for all the fun! And, no, food on vacay is not documented!!! I gained 5 pounds while gone (lost 4 already) but was horrified when we wrote down what we drank!! It was all inclusive including the alcohol that the beach waitress come to you every 1/2 hour. My girls and I counted over 20 different drinks we had! That was the source of my calorie overload. But I enjoyed every single one of them!!! Have a great time and enjoy yourself. I look forward to seeing your beautiful photo when you return.

Heading to Glasgow shortly.  Lunch, then off to the airport hotel for an overnight.  3 minute walk in the morning to the terminal and we've already checked in online.  Love the free buses for us oldies but hate dealing with all the luggage geting them off an on!!

This mornings weight 129.2.  Will make my food confessions on Tuesday night EST, or brag about how good I was. Hmm....

Have a wonderful Memorial Day for those in the USA!

Day 5 of warm, sunny, gorgeous weather in Scotland! Sometimes when it's dreary, grey and cold for a long time it's easy to forget what a gorgeous country this is. But when this happens - bliss!

99% packed for our trip. I've just finished cleaning the house as I like to come home to a clean one after a long trip. Cleaned out the fridges as we're going to turn them off. Freezer is empty. 

Tomorrow after breakfast we take buses into Glasgow, stop for lunch, and head to the airport hotel which is about a 3 minute walk to the terminal. Our flight leaves early the next morning. I'm planning to continue logging my meals and workouts on DD to keep me on the straight and narrow. 


Serious housework!

When my lunch is sufficiently digested I'm going to do my strenth trainiing:

  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • lots of abs
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges with dumbbells

I am pledging to the ladies of DD that I will do the strength routines that I've planned out 3 times a week. Cardio I'm not worried about. I'll get plenty. 


  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 multigrain toast w/pbj, skinny cappuccino with evil artificial sugar 
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  last of the leftover veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  hot chocolate, walnuts/almonds/raisins
  • Teas & lots of water

TOTAL:  1458

Day 4 of perfect weather!  It hit 80 yesterday and that is very rare for this part of Scotland.  Forecast is for the same - sunny and 70's through Monday.  It will be much cooler on Tuesday but we'll be on the plane.  Looks like we are heading to temps in the 90's in Michigan.  

We awoke to no electricity this morning.   No idea why or how many houses are out - certainly wasn't caused by the weather!  Finally just came back on and it's 5.30pm!  Fortunately we have a gas hob we can cook on if we light it with a match.  I had no excuse to spend too much time on the internet so got a lot done.  Finished packing except for a couple of last minute things.  Cleaned the house except for a couple of loads of laundry and the vacuuming. And enjoyed the warmth and sun outdoors for a while. 


  • B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  1 multigrain toast (made in a fry pan!), pbj
  • S:  1 clementine, oat and fruit bar
  • D:  curry & rice, salad with sunflower seeds, drink
  • S:  1 glass of red wine
  • Teas and water

TOTAL:  1579

Countdown til vacay :) Yipee! RYC although the "tropical storm" is on the opposite coast, I am sure we will get some well needed substantial rain and we are clear of the severe weather.. I will def keep you all posted :) I hope you enjoyed some fun in the sun today <3
