Hey everyone. It's a long, long time since I have posted on here but I know I have to become accountable to myself again. I am very unhealthy and feeling the strain of my weight on my body and my mind. It's good to see that there are still familiar names in the diary entries list and that some people can still maintain their weight loss. This was always the best place for me to write everything down .

Progress as of today: 15 lbs lost so far, only 73 lbs to go!

Good to see you again--I hope to be back regularly posting soon. Have a good week there!

Hi everyone

It was lovely to see your welcoming comments. I will catch up with everyone at the weekend when I have chance to read all your blogs. It feels good to be part of this again. I have been eating really healthily for the last couple of days, and avoiding the bad stuff. I feel like I'm making a good start. Thanks for your support :-) x

Maria7 on 08/06/2013:
You ARE making a good start. Eating healthy and staying clear of foods not the best to consume is a good start. Coming here is a good start also. Hope you've had a nice day and have a good day tomorrow, too. :-)

It's been a heck of a long time since I posted on here and healthwise I have been really bad. I have put weight on and I'm struggling with arthritis in both my knees and with pain in my right foot too so I've not been exercising for some time. Things have been difficult for me at work for some months so I am under a lot of strain and the stress is beginning to tell on my body.

Having said all that I have had the best news in the world , and probably the best incentive for me to pick myself up and get fit again. My eldest son and his wife are going to make me a grandmother :-)   They have been married for twelve years in September and have been trying to have children for some years so this baby ( an IVF baby) is extra special for us all. She is due in December, but may be brought early as my daughter in law suffers with high blood pressure and is being strictly monitored.

I feel as though I am right back to where I started on here, but I am determined to lose weight again and hopefully that in itself will help with my other health problems. I hope to get to know you all again and see how you are all going on.

biscottibody59 on 08/04/2013:
I'm sorry to hear about the pain, but congrats on your future grandchild. And I'm glad to see a post from you:-)

I hope you'll just start where you are and do the best you can--it will get better. Keep trying to focus on the good you're doing yourself now!

I'm looking forward to seeing you on here a lot!

Umpqua on 08/05/2013:
Congratulations on the pregnancy, what fantastic news! It's great to see a post from you and you already know you'll find lots of support here. Whenever I go astray, coming back here is really helpful.

hollybelle on 08/05/2013:
I hear you Anne - give it a good go for 45 days and I'll bet you'll be surprised how far you get. I have been living healthy for 30 days and feel SO much better. Work stress is so hard. We have to counteract that with healthy living - you can do it! Good incentive. As we said on FB a couple of weeks ago - we are gonna be grannies - and we want to be HIP gannies, now don't we? Good to see post from you-<3

Hey people, long time no post from me. I have been spectacularly badly  behaved with regard to health for the last few months and have felt like I have no motivation but a recent very  painful flare up of arthritis in my left knee has given me a wake up call (yet another!!) and I will be back on the wagon as soon as the Christmas holidays are over. I have just finished a secondment at work which was quite stressful but I will be back to normal soon and able to concentrate again on my own life. I look forward to catching up with you all soon when I am off work for the holidays xxx

biscottibody59 on 12/20/2012:
Hey there!

I'll be looking forward to cheering you on after Christmas! Thanks for another word we don't use here--secondment. I looked it up--great word! I don't know how it is where you were working, but if the place you went to was desperate for help, they'll never forget you! (I hope it was a good experience despite the stress.)

Enjoy your holidays!

horn_of_plenty on 12/30/2012:
sorry to hear, Greenie. I have learned one thing this year in particular - and that is to KEEP MOVING. it can be hard in these winter months, especially when we have no time, but it's far worth it. It's worth getting up early for, if need be, on the weekends. I have resigned up for a bootcamp...it will be SIX MONTHS! of getting up early Saturday/Sunday for an hour class. It will be tough (and i do plan to take a "vacation" from it some weekends) but it's a good goal and feat to achieve. Do something you like, and keep it going, you will feel better.

biscottibody59 on 12/31/2012:
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I hope your knee is feeling better. I wish you all the best in 2013 and getting back into a groove. We all have to find something we can live with and I know you can do this!

Happy New Year's Eve:-)

(healthy eating and moderate exercise)
Weight: 0.0

This is a hard entry to write but I might feel better if I get it off my chest. In the last seven years my weight has fluctuated between 238lbs at my heaviest to 160lbs at my lowest. My problem is that although when I am motivated I can shift the pounds, I always revert to the really bad way of eating and put the weight back on. I have  never managed to get to my goal weight before starting to put the weight back on. Early last year I had a real wake-up call when I found out I had impaired glucose tolerance (AKA pre-diabetes). Then I made a real effort and lost weight again, getting back down to under 170lbs but I still let it go again. Now I find myself  almost back to 200lbs with arthritic knees hurting, and uncomfortably full at night so getting disturbed sleep!!   I know I am a fool and I know I'm old enough to know better (that should be my DD name!!). When I had a check-up with my diabetes nurse last April she was really pleased with my progress but now, just three months later I doubt if she would be pleased at all. Ten years ago when my eldest son got married I weighed my heaviest and I hate the photos of me from that occasion. Next week my youngest daughter graduates from University and I know that there will be another set of photographs that should show one of the happiest and proudest moments of my life, but I will hate them too! I am a big disappointment to myself.

However, just to prove that there's no fool like an old fool here I am again. I'm going to start afresh, hopefully with your support. I did think of sneaking back under a new name but I'm sure a few of you would have seen right through that  (I'm thinking of you Leaking Life AKA Biscotti, you've always seemed very astute ;-)  )I'm going to put up a photo of me as I look now, and hopefully in a few months I'll have some slimmer ones to compare it with!!

Thanks for listening to my tale of woe , and for putting up with me all these years, Anne :-)

grannyannie on 07/15/2012:
Good luck! We're here to support you!

V on 07/15/2012:
Hello Annie! We def are here to support you <3 You can do this my friend!

hollybelle on 07/15/2012:
Aw Anne, we want you here with us under your same name! I think a rose by any other name would definitely smell as sweet (tribute to Will S.) but let's get real - we are who we are and we have to decide every meal, how we are gonna eat. I have yo-yo'd some through the years. I love food and I love to eat. It's said that a woman's fondest wish is not to meet the perfect man, but to be able to eat anything without gaining weight! I would go with that. Anyway - I'm here with you. I want you to have good health and a happy life. Hang in there-back on track-keep posting!

Maria7 on 07/15/2012:
Hi, Anne...yes, I know it is so discouraging to undo some of the work we have done, as I, too, am guilty. The good thing, dear Friend, is today is a new day! We can always recommit to healthier choices! I still love your photo, btw...you are still gorgeous and look so happy with your hat on by the water...(I, too, like to wear hats)...So...I don't think it will take you long to get back to where you are feeling more comfortable because I hear 'determination' in your writing! :-D Take care.

LeakingLIfe on 07/15/2012:
That picture is wonderful:-)

Oh, goodness--thanks for thinking of me that way--I think?:-) It just shows I've been here forever and longer than I thought I'd be:-) It was (the now elusive) Donkey who figured out that one diarist made an account to pose as her own mother. See I remember this goofy stuff--haha! And I'd miss you if I didn't figure out your new persona, so keep on posting.

As you said, you know what to do--skip the fool part--that makes me a fool too--I've never gotten to my ultimate goal. And I know that once you get into a groove there's no stopping you. So drown your sorrows a bit and come on back as strong as ever. You can (and will) do this!

Have a good week greengirl!

ps I have and probably will sometimes feel like I'm starting over on a weekly or daily basis. All I can say is it beats the alternative.

Umpqua on 07/16/2012:

Hey everyone

I have been away for a few weeks on holiday in Cyprus (a mediterranean island) and I have put lots of weight back on :-(

However I mean to get back to where I was last year for the sake of my health and I will need all the support I can get.  I had a wonderful holiday but now I need to put it behind me and concentrate on losing weight, getting my blood sugar as close to normal as I can and improving my cholesterol level. I will leave you with my favourite photograph of myself from my holiday. It's a picture of me swimming in the Baths of Adonis. In Greek mythology this is the place where Aphrodite met Adonis and they became lovers and had children here. It is a very beautiful and atmospheric place. Talk to you all soon :-)   Anne

V on 06/23/2012:
What a beautiful photo of you in paradise :) Welcome back!!!

hollybelle on 06/23/2012:
Welcome back, and as V said - that does look like paradise. The baths of Adonis sounds so mythical.....LOL. Seriously - I read a book called The Goddesses in Every Woman that was really an intresting book. It was about the how the characteristics of each Greek Goddess can be found in human women and how to identify and bring out the inner Goddess in ourselves.....

LeakingLife on 06/23/2012:
Such a neat little picture--cool mythology tie-in too! I take it you'll have to be around some of the Olympics hubbub this Summer?

Hello people

I know I've not been around for a while and unfortunately I've well and truly slipped off the wagon. However I'm going on holiday on June 7th to Cyprus and I would love to drop a few pounds again before then, even if it's only to fit back in a few clothes. I am going to aim for losing 10lbs in the next six weeks or so but I'm not going to kill myself to do it. I've been keeping up the walking despite eating crappily! I still walk to last part of my journey too and from work so Monday to Friday I'm walking at least three miles a day. I've been walking with my eldest son at weekend, mainly in the Peak District (very pretty area of the country) and sometimes  on a coastal walk in Wales.

i'm going through a hard time at work at the moment. There is a lot of infighting and backbiting going on because of changes to the Library Strategy brought about by the recession. No-one's job feels safe and everyone is tense and ****y.  I don't do well under these circumstances and I can't help feeling that the up and coming young people in the team take me for granted. Changes in government policy mean that I have to work until I'm 66 nowuntil I can retire , so I'm not a happy bunny. I've taken refuge in eating but now I want to be strong again , because I know I'm damaging my health. Anyway I'll keep you posted on my progress :-)  I've taken my current weight down because that is just depressing me! I'll put up a couple of pictures from the last walks I've gone with my son and the dog !

V on 04/22/2012:
Hello there GreenGirl :) We have missed you! Great pictures of you, nice to see your beautiful smiling face despite the turmoil at work!

hollybelle on 04/22/2012:
Good to see a post from you. Even though you are stressed about the things at work and the economy - I'm glad you have figured out what it is that is causing the emotions that are causing your stress eating. I am getting close to retirement, too and it doesn't seem fair that the "game is changing" on us here, too. We are having to work longer and longer to retire as we have been planning all out lives to do. I will be 58 in October and I work in the health insurance industry. With the healthcare reform law that passed and is being phased in the last few years, I don't even know that I will have a job in this industry (where all my expertise is) in 18 months. The legislation is the most sweeping that the US has ever passed. Once thing - if we are going to have to work longer, I at least want to feel the best I can, so I am tyring to be motivated by that. Also - if I do have to change employers, I want to look my best and like I am able-bodied, especially at my age. Hang in there with your work and do the best you can for yourself, Anne. Thinking of you. Glad you are getting to go to Cyprus. Sounds very lovely!

Maria7 on 04/23/2012:
Beautiful photos! You still look gorgeous! Good plan on getting back on track...I try not to stay off track any longer than a few days, myself, too. It's so easy to give in to comfort-eating. Just getting into a frame of mind that it doesn't matter what or how much we eat...but then reality sets in when we realize we are not so comfortably fitting into our favorite clothes sizes as we were... :-D Take care, my friend over there in England (I always picture England as such a BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!!) :-D

LeakingLife on 04/25/2012:
Oh, that looks like a great place. Good to see you're looking pretty fit! I know it's hard to stay on that wagon--so many things to distract and deal with. I'd love to say for myself it gets easier, but the only thing that works is keeping it in mind every day, then doing our best!

Good going on the walking too! I'm really glad you've updated here--keep posting whenever you can:-)

Hey people, I'm still around even though I might seem to be AWOL. This is one of the busiest times of year at work. It's one of the exam periods so our library is absolutely packed out and we are open 24/7. I'm working long hours and am tired. I try to eat well and I'm still walking at least 3 miles a day Monday-Friday.  I am not putting any more weight on, thank goodness, even though I have still been eating some goodies left over from Christmas. They are all gone now so I am trying to get back to my old routine, and hopefully I will be back to my posted weight soon. I'll try and find time to read your diaries soon :-)

To be truthful I have put on a few pounds over the last few weeks of festivities. However I do not intend to get despondent about this situation, I am going to look at this in a positive light :-)  This time last year I weighed about 40 pounds more than I weigh now ! This time next year I will weigh 20 to 25 pounds less than I weigh now. This is a promise I am making to myself. I intend to be much more positive about myself this year. Some things in my life are out of my hands, the situation at work, my husband's health issues, the current economy etc. I am not going to let these things get me down and I will control those things that I can control. Last Wednesday I went for a lovely walk in Derbyshire, with my eldest son and his tiny Jack Russell puppy. We had a wonderful walk and decided to do something similar as often as we can manage, at least once a month. It really blows the cobwebs away up there on the moorland. I will put up a couple of photos to show you the views :-)  Good luck to us all in 2012 !!

This is me and the pup in the boundary field at Eyam. You should check out Eyam, Derbyshire on the internet if you have any time. It's a very special place with a very special history of amazing bravery and sadness.

This is a panorama I stitched together from four photos I took from Riley Lane Eyam

this is a rear view of Stephen and Obi :-)

This is St Martin's church at Stoney Middleton. It's another village we walked through :-)

Finally here's one of the small woodlands we walked through. It was chilly and windy but very bright that day. Perfect for blowing away the Christmas cobwebs!

Progress as of today: 60 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 01/01/2012:
Oh, Anne, I must say -- this section of England could almost be in certain parts Kentucky! Beautiful. I'm very happy you are not dispondent about the addition of a couple pounds. Weight does fluxuate and you will be back to pre-holiday weight if you just take it in stride like you plan to do! Beautiful pics and beautiful you with pup!

hollybelle on 01/01/2012:
P.s. Kentucky has the rock fences like this - but unfortunaely most were built by slaves. Doesn't stop them from being pretty, but not a proud origin for our rock fences. We don't have churches that are as old as that one in your pic and I'm not sure the sun shines just like that either. As you can tell I really enjoyed these pics!

These pictures are so lovely -- great places to walk! Looks like a mild winter there in the UK. Yes, no sense in getting into a tizzy over the pounds gained over the holidays. Kind of a losing battle, and it just shows that indeed you have things to celebrate about and loved ones to celebrate with! Now onto the new year and hard work, right? :-)
