Hey Peeps, I know its ages since i updated (and Ive only lost one pound in the meantime) but I have been incredibly busy and Ive got lots of stuff on the go, so I'm finding it inceasingly difficult to fit everything, so finding time on the computer has been hard.

I'm glad to see Mcwoo is back but Ive not had time to read diaries. I have been getting some exercise in and tomorrow I do the 5km raceforlife for cancer research. The weather is looking a bit dodgy, but i'd rather have a little light rain, than the blazing sun that I did it in last year.

My daughter and I are checking out universities, as she has to apply for hers in the coming year. She went with a group of students and teachers from college to have a day at Oxford University and loved it, but its highly unlikely that she will get high enough grades to get in there. We are going to check out Bangor University on July 5th, and shes spent time at a couple of others. She wont apply to the University that I work at (Manchester) as it is very popular, and therefore can pick out the cream of students, with very high grades.

I will try and get on here more often, but I seem to have more and more to fit in these days. Good luck to everyone for the coming week. Do the best you can, and keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow :)

i remember all too well the college search. I went to visit just a few but it is amazing the impression you can get just from a visit! I even stayed over at one university just to realize it didn't even interest me to apply!

Hey - a pound is a pound and I haven't lost any lately so - good for you! Exciting times with daughter and university. We are going to be doing the same with my daughter NEXT Fall. Hi everyone :)

I thought I had better post today as my halo has slipped, and I have had a mini binge. My cals, which I have been carefully keeping at around 1500 have been nearer 1800-1900 today. Nothing too desperate I know, but I am still a little disappointed with myself.

I have got some very good news today, also. I had an appointment with my doctor tonight for my annual review. The doctor makes sure that what he prescribes for me is still effective etc. I have thyroxine for my underactive thyroid, and ramipril (sp?) for my high blood pressure. Now even when I was on the ramipril my blood pressure was moderately high, when my weight was at its highest. Tonight when my doc took my blood pressure my bp was 123/72 and that was after a full day at work, followed by a 20 minute walk to the doctors surgery. He was suitably impressed and I was very pleased with it. I have to call on Thursday morning to have some blood taken, but I feel full of beans (figuratively not literally) so I think my thyroid is still OK too :)

I wish you could have all seen me at lunchtime today. It would have given you all a chuckle. As part of my environmental champion thing, I have to rummage through the waste bins at work !! Today I had to help George (one of the cleaning staff) and Barry ( a Science Professor !) to root through a public paper recycling bin and check if it was contaminated with other rubbish (of course it was, our customers are students !!). One of the top librarians came across to ask us if we'd lost something important in there and Barry tried to joke that we had misplaced a check for �1000s . She didnt think it was very funny LOL !!

I dont have much time these days but I will try and comment on your posts later in the week, or definately at weekend. Talk to you all soon :)

Thank you so much for your encouraging comment, Greengirl. As to the mini binge, I know that can be disappointing, but at least it was not an 'all-out' binge so you will be able to correct it quickly.

yuck! going through the garbage! we recycle at the school i work at and interestingly even the teachers do not recycle correctly! i try...but i can tell there are things mitakenly thrown in! :)

your mini binge can be looked at a little differently. us women always try to be perfect while men get away with some things, or they don't need to be absolutely perfect. let this day be one of those. not perfect, but not breaking your good exercise and eating routine either.

Hi everyone,

I seem to have lost my focus a little this week and have only managed to lose one pound but , hey, at least I am still going in the right direction. The main problem was that I have joined an initiative at work to try and improve the environmental impact of our building. We are taking part in something called The Global Plan, in an effort to reduce our waste, and improve our energy use. This week this has involved me having to attend , not one, but two meetings (one daylong one) both of which included a lovely buffet lunch. The temptation (plus the lack of a decent low cal option) proved too much for me. Also yesterday I was going out, straight from work, to see a local production of 'A midsummer night's dream'. This was very enjoyable, but meant that we went in a pub for something to eat first, and again no low cal option (at least not on the vegetarian menu !!)

Well there are my excuses !! I know that is exactly what they are, fairly feeble ones too!!!

This weekend I am up for a little action. I was up at 6.30 this morning and had done half an hour on the Wii Fit before I even thought about breakfast. Of course it is no substitute for real exercise so I am writing this whilst having a cuppa, before getting the treadmill out. Tomorrow I have already committed myself to a three mile walk with one of my raceforlife companions. I have just worked out a decent route on MapMyRun and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will stay fine.

I am hoping to catch up with some diaries this weekend, this is the first time I have done more than just check e-mail for days. Keep in touch :)

I've just read Maria's diary and just wanted to say that I miss lots of people. Too many to mention really, but in case any of you are still calling by can I sent good wishes to Biscotti, Donkey, Sandra, Moody, BTC and many others who Ive not heard from in a while. Miss you all, folks xxx

greengirl, you soumd very committed to your exercise right now. I always wondered about the wii fit but i've bought too much fitness equipment and i know i couldn't commit myself to use it regularly. a 3mi walk sounds wonderful.

Hi everyone, This is literally a hit and run post. I dont have two minutes. I have been pretty good last week, and exercised a few times too (Yay !!). I have lost another 2 pounds and I have lowered my target to 180. Ive decided to drop it to ten pounds at a time. As soon as I reach the current target I will drop it another ten pounds. Hopefully I will be in touch again this week but I have been really busy :) Fight the good fight, people :)

yes, fight the good fight indeed! Someone at work has helped me to see some foods as "worth the calories or not." she figures out ways to put it into perspective why NOT to have a certain food. I love her way of thinking. for instance, there was a bake sale with foods left over from the weekend - obviously NOT a great way to waste calories on OLD fresh baked goods haha! I've been thinking to myself which things are really worth it - and more often than not they're not worth any bit of eating.

Hey ladies (and any gents of course), I know it has been a few days since my last update but I havent bailed again !! The good news is that I have lost 4 lbs in the last week. I know that some of this will be water weight but I am still very pleased. I feel less bloated, and am sleeping a little better because of it. I managed to keep to my 1500 cals every day bar one (Friday I ate about 1800 or thereabouts) and have done a little exercise as often as possible. I have eaten at least 5 portions of fruit/veg every day and started drinking more water again. I WILL be fit again !!

Today I had the treadmill out , determined to do at least 5km , in training for my 5km outing in four weeks time. I am only planning to do it at a brisk walk. Today I decided to set the speed at 6km per hour (a fraction shy of 4mph). I did the first mile (1.61km) in sixteen minutes, three mile in 48mins 23 secs, 5km (3.106 mile) in 50 mins 10 secs and then slowed down to finish on 5.8km (3.6mile) in the 60 minutes. I felt great afterwards, I had got my second wind at about 40 minutes. I'm sorry about all the complicated measurements but I know that we have people from both Europe and The US on here (as well as all the rest of the world!!) so I wanted everyone to understand. My treadmill measures in kilometres (as many do in the UK) but I convert it on the internet. My speed are still a far cry from what they were last year when I could regularly do 3 miles in less than 40 minutes.

I have to go now, my daughter is mithering me to send some photos to her computer but I will get back later this evening to read diaries, and possibly add some comments. :)

Congrats on your success this week. That is exactly what I'm trying to do. It's almost scary at first, to lose the weight and say "ok, now I will continue to lose more."

To see you at that 190 and that you were 10 pounds lighter (original 227) when you began towards your goal than I was...I can hardly wait to get to the 190-200 part..... Hopefully by July 4th...It has been about 12 years since I was <200...About stinkin' time I woke up and decided to do this once and for all!

This is the third time I have started this entry, and then been sidetracked. Hopefully this will be third time lucky !!

Fisrt let me thank you all for the warm welcome back, and for your continuing support. It helps a lot. I have had a good start to this battle in my campaign to gain better health. I have decided to try and stick to 1500 cals a day, and to make sure I eat at least five portions of fruit and/or veggies. So far so good, I have managed it for the last three days. I have also managed to get in some exercise, at least 30 mins per day, and actually did a little longer yesterday on the treadmill. I have decided to make Saturday my official weighing in day, so expect my Saturday entry to include an update of my weight.

It is unusually warm (for us) in the UK at the moment so I will be able to get in some walks around campus in my lunch hours at work, without the rain affecting me too much. I am doing the raceforlife again in less than five weeks, on behalf of cancer research, but I dont anticipate any problems. It is only 5km (3.12 miles) and I can do that at a brisk walk in less than 50 minutes. This year I am doing it with two friends, instead of with my daughter. I am nowhere near as fit as I was when I did it last year but I'm sure I'll survive to tell the tale LOL !!

Well, I'm off to read diaries now, so take care and fight the good fight :)

Good plan - now get going. You are on to something with the plans to walk at work. That really put me forward towards my goal when I was doing that and guess what? Yesterday I started it again! I walked (only 20 min) on my lunch hour and it really cleared my mind. Of course today it is raining, but there's always the next dry day....It is about time for our Relay for Life Cancer Research deal - you may remember that a group of friends (neighbors, really) get together for this cause each summer. Good luck on yours and thanks for participating.

I think it would be good now if I started with a big confession of all my (nutritional!) sins and bite the bullet as regards my weight. How can I lose weight if I am in denial ?? To recap I Joined DD in Aug 2006 determined that THIS would be the time I did it. I weighed 227 then, and by being really good, eating well and exercising hard twelve months or so later I saw my lowest weight of 162. I had lost 65lbs in a year and I was over the moon. THAT was when the complacency set in !! I has two holidays away when I indulged myself, and despite a couple of tries I just couldn�t get back to what I had been doing. In the following November, I had a change of job at work. I started later, meaning I had an extra couple of hours in bed every day. My new working hours meant that instead of getting home in the afternoon and getting on the treadmill I was getting home at 6.30pm and was just tired enough to think �Sod it !! I cant be bothered tonight !� only this was every night. At weekend I kept it up for a while, but hubby always wanted to be going out shopping, and let�s face it, I was easily persuaded to follow him, and blow off the opportunity to exercise. Foodwise, I was eating all the good stuff that I had eaten whilst losing weight, but at night I was eating at least the same amount of calories in CRAP !! Chocolate, biscuits, crisps (chips to my American friends) and chips (fries), a ton of cheese (my biggest downfall). I could cry when I think of it. I was far worse than I had been before I joined here, it was like a madness took hold of me (sounds like a good excuse !!) The be all and end all result is that I have put back on 32 pounds !!!! My god, that looks awful in black and white ! How could I do this to myself . To compound my stupidity, I now have a wardrobe full of lovely clothes tucked away out of sight in my spare bedroom. I�m too ashamed and embarrassed to even look at them.

Well they say that confession is good for the soul, but, honestly I don�t feel any better right now! I don�t really need advice on how to do this. I know how to do it !! What I need is support and encouragement, and a little constructive criticism when needed (that was when Biscotti, Geevee and Donkey came into their own, and I respect and admire their common sense and honesty :) )

I have really missed being here these last few weeks, I don�t want to keep away any longer. I will do my best to support others but I am in a bad place myself just now. Be patient folks, and keep an eye on me !! I�m bad, but at least I�m back !!

Bad choices, perhaps, but that doesn't make YOU bad! You have confessed your sins, now is the time for redemption. You must forgive yourself and get back on track. You CAN do this - you KNOW you can do this. You've taken the first step, now just keep moving forward, and don't look back. It does no good to beat yourself up - learn from your mistakes, using that knowledge to help you get to where you want to be. Have a great weekend!

I also did not put my weight up right when I came back, I actually decided to list it as 100,000. But, then something weird happened to the chart, haha. So I decided to put it around where I'm at now.

Advice. Hmmm. It's all in the mindset. And, we have to realize that if we CONTINUALLY overindulge, it's going to pile back on. The weight comes back. You may be ok with it little by little, but generally this weight is going to do no good for you.

Make sure you have a time every day to reflect on yourself. If we are too busy, or if we are not busy enough, that can put a damper on how we feel and how we act.

Something I've realized is that I did in fact start buying less veggies and fruits this year, without realizing until looking back on it. ALWAYS have a least one drawer in the fridge filled with healthy fruits and veggies. DON'T keep junk in the house. (Since I live with parents, I cannot tell them what to do - but if i were in charge, I would only buy heathy things to eat at home). Don't be afriad to indulge during social events. :) So far, that's what I can think of...

oh...and don't settle for what you weigh or thinking that if you gain another lb, it's still close to what you weigh in. I let myself go up and up even though I wasn't happy at any time I weighed...and I knew I needed to go in the other direction. Don't give in at let yourself reach 200 bc you were there once. Make the decision to go in the other direction now. you know exactly how.

Hiya Anne,and stop beating yourself up about gaining weight.This time last year i had lost 38lbs and put it back on and it's easily done too.Just put it behind you and wipe the slate clean and start again.Yes the family are fine thanks the girls are going out more by themselves around town with their friends.I was thinking my youngest starts the high school in september and i did'nt realise how soon it was, time flies hey.The house has been like a building site for the last month,just need to save for carpet for the two lounges,had laminate in the hallway but the floors are not very good to have it everywhere and ���'s to put right.I need to do a big shop and get some fresh foods been livin off pies fish fingers not good when you are watching the figure but healthy foods tend to be dearer don't you think.Stay focused me dear and stay away from the kitchen!!!Bye for now Julie

I noticed yesterday when reading your entry that you had not put down your "current weight" and when people do that it strikes a red flag to me that there is some denial and not wanting to divulge the most important details for us to realize that those numbers are why we are all here...TO MAKE THAT NUMBER SMALLER...Some are here for maintenance, but most part for just "ridding" of those pounds" FOR GOOD my dear!

Today you have chosen to "face the music" and I am not here to condemn you for gaining "32" back, but am here for your support & ready to cheer you on!

Proud of you for realizing that you NEEDED to step up and post that number regardless....

And we are GLAD you are back, Greengirl and thanks for sharing. We all need to share from time to time, it helps to keep us accountable (to ourselves)...You know, I regained weight also more than one time, but the thing is, as you know it, if you really COMMIT yourself to getting to goal, with the good Lord's help, you can do it! I've seen you VERY COMMITTED when I was coasting along and not very committed cause at that time I was giving in to nitely sweets binges...like you, I did REAL WELL during the day and only to give in and eat the same or MORE calories at nite than I did during the day. I think one of the biggest things for me is NOT giving in to nite-eating. After it's dark, I do my best to stick with low-cal drinks like tea or coffee (or water) to feel full and it really does help me a lot. Well, like you say, you DO know how to do it...question is: Are you willing to make some CHANGES??? Such as putting those pretty clothes BACK in your regular closet (yes you CAN make room if you eliminate some of these larger clothes you are now wearing) to help yourself get the mentality back that you ARE going to be fitting back into them (the smaller clothes)? I think that would be a good first step in motivation. I know you, Greengirl...and this is what I have learned about you...it doesn't take you long once you make up your mind and get on track to accomplish what you set out to do!!! That is what I KNOW about you! Happy day to you, dear Friend!

Well, you certainly got lots of good comments on here before me. I'm glad you are back. You have been in my thoughts many times and I missed you. I, too, have gained back a substantial portion of the weight I lost. I don't know if I ran out of steam, or if I began thinking - oh, well, I'm to the weight I wanted, I don't need to "watch" what I eat anymore - I'll stay at this weight now-so there-something like that or WHAT, but I know I can do it again and I will do it this time with the fore-thought that I can't revert back.....that's just the facts. I'm glad you are back. Sorry to hear of the death of your friend. I know that's happening to me more and more these years. It is an eye-opener and I don't want to live the rest of my life feeling like I feel right now - I'm tired all the time and, like you, I can't get into MOST of my clothes EITHER! So hang in there with me and let's get our kiesters moving and our mind making good choices!

Hey everyone, long time no post from me, eh??? As I am sure you have all guessed I have been stupid and put on a load of weight. Strangely I am still keeping pretty fit but I know it is time I came back here and faced the music. I need support or everything goes to pot !!! Last week I went to the funeral of a friend who was only a few months older than me , and that has brought me to the realisation that I am ruining my health by putting the weight back on again. To add insult to injury there was a man there who I have not seen for about a year and he had lost five stone (70lbs) since the last time I saw him. now I think , if he can do it so can I (again). So, here we go again . I will spend a while catching up with old friends tonight so watch out for me. Its good to be back :)

You did it once, you can do it again. That's the best way to look at it! I also have put on a load of weight, keeping somewhat fit - but NOT as fit as before. I am taking a class that has a final on Sunday. From then on, the only thing I am concerned about is weightloss till the end of the school year (teaching, not me going to school). So, for the next month and a half, I'm right with ya here!

Hey everyone. I thought that I would upload a photo of my daughter just before she ran a mile for charity last week. I have had a great session on my treadmill today. I did the first half mile in 7 minutes (I know that is only half as fast as you do it BTC but its good for me LOL !! ) then went on to do 2 miles (3.22km) in 30mins 40secs, slowed down but carried on to three miles (4.83km just under 48 mins) and finally called it a day at 5km (just under 50mins). Thats the first time since I registered for this year's race for life that I have bothered to do the full 5k on the machine. I just need to speed up a little now. The fastest I did it last year (when I weighed less) was 39 minutes, and I'd really like to do it in that again if I could. Calories have been a little higher today, around 1700 but I think with the exercise that's not too bad. Back to work tomorrow and much stricter with the calories. No more than 1500 from now on. Will catch up with you all soon :O)

50 minutes still sounds like a good time!!! Especially that first mile! Good luck with cutting down the time, I'm sure you can do it!

Hey Everyone. I hope you are all enjoying a Happy Easter. I am pleased to say that my recent hard work has been paying off and I have lost seven pounds since my new start !!! I have done a little backsliding this weekend but not enough to do any great damage. I am hoping to have lost 20lbs by 15th of June, when I am taking part in the Race for Life.

I went down to the pub with a friend last night and came home feeling no pain (if you know what I mean). This morning I awoke to a bad head, and the sight of five inches of snow outside!!!

I have my new laptop up and running, covered by security and have downloaded itunes to keep my ipod going :O). It has double the memory of my old one but I miss windowsxp. Vista seems to create problems where there were none. I am now reloading my itunes library, which is taking up some time. I will be back in touch soon. Keep up the good work:)

Congrats on the weight loss. Sounds like a great goal and I am sure you can do it. I am learning how to make podcasts (yeah, I was this bored! hahahaha) and as soon as I figure out how to publish them on the web, I'll make one for the DD girls to download to their ipods and exercise with (I was an awesome DJ in my past life! :)

I'm glad I bought my laptop when I did, as it was just before Vista came out, so I still have XP. My husband has Vista and I refuse to use his computer. I just don't like it at all!
