Hey everybody. It was lovely to log on tonight and see the names of old friends visiting here !!! Cheered me up no end !!

Ive had another couple of good days since I last posted. Managed to keep the calories under 1500 and been getting some exercise in too. Got on the treadmill at weekend, and even managed a walk in my lunch break at work today. It was bright and dry but very cold. I got my time down to 30 mins and 27 seconds for my two miles on the treadmill yesterday, then slowed down for the next five minutes.

On Sunday afternoon I went into Manchester city centre to support my daughter as she was running a mile for charity. She isnt really a runner but she managed the mile in just under ten minutes so I was very proud of her. I may post a photo of her at the start if I get the chance tomorrow. My new laptop should be delivered tomorrow so I will be spending some time getting that up and running. will be in touch again soon. Have a great week, everyone :O)

Hope you enjoy that new laptop....YAYYYY!!!...good on the 2 mile walk, too....and keeping the cals under 1500...double YAYYYYY!!!!

Your daughter did real well, too in doing a mile in under 10 mins...YAYYYYYY!!! for her, too!

Take care and have a wonderful evening!

borntocry on 03/18/2008:
Oooh, do post that picture of your daughter! Running a mile in under 10 minutes is very impressive!

Thanks for your comment, and your advice on my job situation. So you think an hour's commute each way is feasible? I was also planning to read on the train - I used to read a lot when I was small but have all but given it up in the past few years. It's just hard to do with my husband around. So maybe this new job would give me the chance to get back into it. I have so many books lying around which I have yet to finish (or start in some cases!).

hollybelle on 03/20/2008:
Hey there. Good to see your posts! I am have some good days some not so good, but I am still at it - so to speak. I need to have breakthrough and have many good days in a row and more exercise.......then we'd have something to talk about, won't we?

Another good day on the calorie front. I have eaten just under 1300 and I may have a cup-a-soup or a piece of wholemeal toast in a couple of hours before I go to bed.

Hubby has ordered me a new laptop and I have promised to pass this one on to his granddaughter (my step-granddaughter) if I can get it working a little better. I think I will reboot it from scratch. I have had some of the keys off today and cleaned a few crumbs out from under them, and they are working a lot better, but I think I have some problems with the registry which are slowing it up. Our granddaughter is only 10 and will be moving up to the big kids school in September so I think it might be good enough for her to use for schoolwork.

We have been looking after her today, as her mum and dad had to work so I have walked for miles round the local shops with her. My feet are killing me !!!! Tomorrow my daughter is running a mile for charity in the local city centre. It is for Sport Relief, and she has done it before, a couple of years ago. I promised I would go into town to watch her, so I wont be getting much relaxation in this weekend. Next weekend however I have booked an extra day off work to tag onto the easter break so I will be having a five day weekend !! Sounds really good doesnt it ???

Well , as we say here in the north of England, I will love you and leave you. Take care and have a great weekend. Stay strong :O)

mmuraro on 03/15/2008:
I love that old jazz song Love Me or Leave Me. There's a version by Nina Simone that's just amazing. Seems like you have a lot of family around this weekend. Enjoy! I have been feeling home sick, but I talk to all of them everyday (they all live in Brazil and i live in the US). Have a great night :)

mmuraro on 03/15/2008:
Yes! Thanks! Next tornado, though, if the weight loss is going well, i intend to survive in a two piece :) Ok, bad joke. :)

Beth201P on 03/15/2008:
Sounds like you are keeping busy this weekend. Well I hope you have a good day tomorrow. Take care, until tomorrow. LOL Nite

Well I have finished the week well and it is reflected on my scales. YAY I have lost a few pounds this week for the first time in ages. I feel pretty chipper too !!! Also I have been sleeping a lot better as I have not been going to bed feeling bloated because of overeating in the evening. Good news all round for me, and I hope all of you are doing well too.

On the laptop front, the problem with my eyboard has now spread to the letters i, u and k. I have to keep going back to fill in the missing letters. Hubby says he will buy me a new one (he's really in my good books tonight!!!). I have to say that I have had my money's worth out of this one. I have really given it some hammer.

Let's hope we all have a great weekend. Keep strong, people :O)

Hey everyone. I've had another couple of good days with calories well under the 1500 that I am allowing myself. I'm stll having a problem with lack of exercise. The weather here in England has been really bad, so there's not been a lot of opportunity to get out for a walk. Having said that I have been feeling very perky this week. The library I work in is extremely large so at lunch times I take a walk around the various floors, and staircases to try and cover a little ground at least !!

I am having a few problems with my laptop at the moment, so if you happen to notice any letter i's missing just ignore it. It is jamming and I have had to go through this twice to put them in, by banging down on the key very hard. Its irritating so I will call t a day !!!

normajean on 03/12/2008:
man exercising has been hard for me lately too! however, the weather is beautiful so I just lack motivation to get out and do it! my keyboard does that all the time and it is soo annoying! I feel your pain haha

maria777 on 03/12/2008:
Fantasticon 1500 calories days! Sounds like you're getting plenty of exercise going up and down those stairs and walking around that huge library! Hope your weather gets better soon. As for laptop, mine misses on the 'u' and sometimes I have to rekey it a time or two.

biscottibody59 on 03/13/2008:
You're getting back to it despite the weather--good job! Hope today's a good one as well!

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my post yesterday. I know I'm not alone in my current struggle but I still find it depressing that it's so easy to find yourself on the slippery slope that I'm negotiating at the moment. Particular thanks to Biscotti who can always be relied on to tell it straight. Sometimes you just need to hear the unvarnished truth. You are right, I need to worry about me at the moment, and if just writing down what I have been doing today helps me to keep myself accountable I will do that, even if I have nothing much of interest to say to help anyone else.

That being the case I have done OK today. Calories came in at 1405, and although I have done no formal exercise I have been very busy, on my feet all day at work, and took the stairs a couple of times instead of the lift (elevator!). In my lunch break I made a quick dash between showers to the local museum to buy something for my sister, so I even managed a bit of a walk outside. The weather is absolutely appalling here in the UK but as soon as the sun shines I will be walking for half of my lunch hour.

Lets hope we all have a great day tomorrow :)

Glad you're doing well in your calories today and good job on taking the stairs! I wish I could hear your accent saying the lift! English people have the best accents! (I am assuming you're english, but maybe you just live there).

anyway, have a great day!

Hey friends on DD

I have not been here for nearly a month and we all know that doesnt bode well for me !! In fact I've not been doing too bad, especially this week but you will notice that I have removed my progress bar and current weight as I am a little depressed by them. However I have recently rediscovered my motivation. Now all I need is more opportunity to do what I need to in the exercise line.

This weekend has been a good one for me. Yesterday I ate 1337 cals (according to sparkpeople) and I exercised on the treadmill for 45 minutes. Today I have eaten 1368 cals and have exercised on treadmill for 40 mins. My problems start during the week, when I dont get home from work until about 6.30pm and by the time I have had something to eat ( a necessity after a full days work) it is too late to get the treadmill out, as I live in a semi-detached house and the noise would be disturbing for my neighbours at that time of night. I do have other machines that make less noise but I dont think they are half as effective as my beloved treadmill.

When the weather is dry I can get out for a walk round campus in my lunch hour, and I'm hoping that will be happening more often as the year progresses into spring. The weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow is for severe weather so I doubt I'll be getting a walk in tomorrow.

I have registered, with my friend, to take part in the Race for Life again this year. It is a five km charity event in aid of cancer research, in June, and some of you might remember that I did it with my daughter last year. This is one of the things that is motivating me again, as I would like to be at least in the same shape I was when I did it last year.

I'm sorry I have not been supportive to you all recently, but until I can set my own shop in order, I would feel a complete fraud to be offering words of advice to other people. However i can still wish us all the best of luck in our endeavours in the coming week. Fight the good fight !!!

Beth201P on 03/09/2008:
Glad you stopped back in. I know the feeling on giving advice. LOL Well good luck with the race. What a great cause. Have a good week.

mmuraro on 03/09/2008:

biscottibody59 on 03/10/2008:
It's always a struggle and it is daunting sometimes--do what you can 'til the weather cooperates! Have your neighbors complained--maybe they don't care?

Oh well, glad you're still checking in from time to time--I don't always have anything to contribute, but judging from a few people coming back here from years ago (who put back on anything from 30-100 pounds), my decision long ago has worked out well. It was that this was for me, primarily, and if anyone got anything positive from my ups and downs, well--good! But I'm unabashedly in this for me FIRST. Period!

This is your diary--do what you have to do for YOUR health and fitness! In other words, even if you feel like you have nothing positive for anyone else, do what you have to do for YOU!

mcwoo40 on 03/10/2008:
Hiya Anne,so glad you keep coming back. You have something to work for now doing the race.YOU CAN DO IT.The weather does'nt help does it,i have battled with those winds and it's paid off but i hate getting wet.Keep your chin up,and come and post more often even if it's to get something off your chest I'll listen, take care,Julie

MsKitty on 03/10/2008:
I am so there with you on committing diet suicide for a time. But lets work together to motivate one another out of this diet funk. Ill push you if you push me.

It has been another beautifully bright, sunny if slightly chilly day here in my part of England. Apparently this February has been the warmest in the UK since they started keeping records of such things. I'm not going to complain about it. Ive been feeling tons better since the sun came out to play :).

I have had a moderately good week I suppose. I have dropped a pound (I know its not impressive) but it the change in how I feel that is important to me, and I have definately been far more positive than I have felt in months. I have not felt enthuisiastic about exercise since I started my new job last November and you can tell just by looking at me. I have a wardrobe full of clothes that are slightly too tight to look good but this week I have seemed to get my bounce back. Some more good news is that my husband has just ordered a multi-gym which is on sale at half price . It had been 247.50 (thats almost $500) but it is half that now and it is being delivered on Thursday. I dont know if anyone remembers but I'm not overly keen on using the weights for exercise but I am determined that I will give it my best with this machine!! I want to get comfortable in my clothes again !!

I'm sorry I have not commented tonight. I used to like to go through the list of diaries until I reached my last post, but there are so many people posting at the moment that it would take me days !! I will just wish everyone the very best of luck for the coming week.

Progress as of today: 50 lbs lost so far, only 7 lbs to go!

thinnsidenotout on 02/17/2008:

Biscotti you were right about it being sunny on the photo, in fact in the bottom left hand corner you can see the shadow of my arms holding up my mobile phone to take the picture of the geese !!!

Since the sun has begun to shine I have been much more optimistic, and felt more like exercising, too. Its all good :)

Good evening everybody. It has been a lovely springlike day here in my part of the world today, so instead of getting a lift my daughter and I walked to my sisters for our Sunday afternoon family get together. Its a smidgen short of two miles and we did it in about thirtyfive minutes, and that included stopping to take photos of some Canada Geese that we ran into en route. We walk about three quarters of a mile along a canal towpath which is where we ran into the geese (see photo below !!). I didnt have a camera with me so I had to take it with my mobile phone !! I kept noticing signs of spring which were very welcome :O).

My calories have been not too bad today, so all in all its been quite a good day for me.

Ive got a busy week ahead at work, but I'm hoping (if the weather holds) to get out around campus in my lunch breaks. I wish you all good luck with your endeavours this week. Fight the good fight, folks :O)

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Ive decided to lower my target to 170lbs and then take it down in increments of 5lbs so i dont get discouraged by thinking Ive still got a long way to go.

I was amazed by how many people have posted since I did a couple of days ago. Ive obviously missed a lot of new members so a belated welcome to you all from me, and I wish everyone, old and new good luck with our endeavours. The sun has managed to break through at times this week and I have some crocuses flowering in the garden. Its all put me in a much better mood for shifting some of this excess baggage, before the summer comes along. I will be pleased if I can just regain some lost ground!!!!

I will weigh in on Thursday I think. Its my favourite day at work so it might help me remember to weigh !!

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

shadetree on 02/09/2008:
You have crocuses flowering...I hope I don't 'cause they're under about 20 inches of snow. I love crocuses, always helps to bust me out of the winter blahs!

Good idea to change your target. Helps keep the motivation strong when you are working on more achievable goals - in terms of meeting goals more frequently.

Have a good day!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/09/2008:
yes, we have a perfect amount of time till summer. I know i've been saying this since September but I've been ready. It's the recent stresses, that we all have, that have delayed me. Like I said to Donkey, none of us have anymore excuses!

thinnsidenotout on 02/10/2008:
Crocous are one of the most welcomed sights in winter.....We had a wonderful day here weatherwise and we as a family walked 2 miles and did some yard clean-up...Tomorrow is not going to be so pretty... Short Term goals, especially when you have already lost 49 #, will seem more attainable...

MsKitty on 02/10/2008:
wow 50 lbs that is so inspiring. Were around the same weight catagory and I was hoping we could be a support to one another to lose those next 28lbs. My goal is 150lbs too. Again very inspiring. Congrats
