YAY!!! The weekend is here!!! Had a pretty good day at work today. We go through a quiet time for a few weeks. We are in between the exam periods, so there are less students in the library, and until the next assignment due dates we have a steady turnover. We are mad busy again just before assignments are due in, and then in May its exam time again and we are packed to the roof!!

This week there has been a glimmer of light coming into the sky on my way into work. I cant wait for it to get lighter earlier. I hate coming to work in the dark.

I was a good friend today to one of my colleagues who I am very friendly with. She needed to get some problems off her chest, and get some reassurance, and I was able to be there for her so I felt pretty good about myself. So I will give myself 10 challenge points for that today.

We have had some good news in the family this week. One of my nieces is having a baby. I am jealous (not of my niece! Of my sister having anothet grandchild!!) . My own eldest son has been married over four years without even the hint of the pitter-patter of tiny feet. I have four step grandchildren, but they have their own grandmas, and call me Anne, not grandma!! In fact we had the youngest one over today, as it is the school holidays, and her mum had to work. I think I will end up being a real traditional old granny!! Anyway, enough of the gossip and down to business!!

I wish I understood how the point system works. There seems to be so many of you using it. My girlfriend Tracy just started to do weight watchers wich is also by points. I'm going to her place tonight, maybe I'll check out her book so I know about this point system!!

Great job on being there for your coworker! I always think that sometimes, we may be the only person in someone's day who gives them a kind word or a shoulder to lean on. It really does make a difference, so BIG KUDO's to you!! Take care =)

My parents are also quite anxious for grandkids, and are always dropping hints to me about it! I don't want to worry them by telling them that I have been trying for a while now. On the other hand, I'm also sometimes tempted to just tell them that I don't want any kids, so that they'll stop asking me about it!

Thanks for your comments and commiserations yesterday, when I stupidly lost my blog before I had time to post it. i will be more careful tonight. I may as well update my challenge points now, even tho it is only 7pm as I have already slightly topped my calorie total. Ive not been binging or anything, just slightly miscalculated and went over.

Challenge points are as follows:-

From next week i will be working an extra 4 hours a week taking my working hours up to 34 hrs per week. I'm hoping this wont change my eating pattern too much. I will have to wait and see what happens. Good luck with the rest of the week girls :)

Hi greengirl,

I also had a "wild obsession" with Jarvis which started when I first discovered him at age 16. I have loads of autographed pictures and promos and stuff. I went to lots of concerts and even got to shake hands with him once backstage! That was cool. But the best was when I went to watch him DJ at a jazz club in London. I got to light a cigarette for him! And he said, "Thanks!" How cool is that?!

I know he lives in Paris now and I'm always secretly hoping I'll run into him some day (hopefully not when I'm looking all messy and horrible from running) and I'll be singing some Pulp song to myself as I go by (not that he would care, haha!).

Of course I probably shouldn't be obsessing about Jarvis any more now that I am married, especially as my husband is also a fan and can do a brilliant Jarvis impression, being the same height and build and having a beautiful deep singing voice just like Jarvis!

Damn and blast!!! I just wrote a long and very informative entry about the ins and outs of my day today and then clicked on cancel instead of update (I think) and the b****y think disappeared into the ether!!

Flowers from hubby, nice weather, watching football (soccer) on telly to keep hubby company, got some flowers in bloom in garden, challenge points 34 (whoopee!!). Today sun is out, sky is blue. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

One would think you can eat MORE as you get smaller and more physically fit..but nooooooooo LOL. That's ok...I don't mind having smaller calorie days, I actually feel better when I'm not on the high end of the calories. *sigh* one foot in front of the other lol

Hi, I've done something simular caught my arm on the Esc key and everything dissapears.I don't know if you can retrieve it but i would feel stupid to ask someone in this house, as they would laugh at me!!I'm quiete proud of myself really as 6mths ago i never even went on a computer.WE had an old one,and the kids just used to play games on it ,no internet, then I've just taught myself really with a little help from my brother-in -law.Is someone in your house into Pulp.My older sister loves jarvis,she even named the cat after him,I think he was going to the Brits last night.I'm not into that kind of music,my niece is 15, and shs goes alot to see alot of new bands.Anyway be good ,Julie

Thanks to everyone for your continued support. It really keeps me going. I have had a pretty good day today and managed to keep in my calorie total. I have moved my daily hungry time from the late evening (when it is dangerous as I tend to graze in the fridge) to the late afternoon when I can cope with it better by distracting myself with exercise. This has got to help (I hope)

Half a pound is still very, very good. And now that you've been losing the weight it is natural that your body is going to start slowing down on giving it up. I went through that when I hit the 50lb mark..and now I am stuck in a holding pattern as well. Which is VERY frustrating! I have decided that I am going to make my snack what I eat when I get in the house from work....do my workout and then eat my supper. Change it up a little and I am going to work very hard on keeping those calories below 1400/1500. Plus I increased the quality of my cardio.

Late evening was my trouble time too. Its a little better now that I have gotten used to just not touching anything more after dinner.

You're more than halfway to your goal! That must feel amazing! You should really take a moment to look back at how far you've come, and congradulate yourself!

The late night munchies are also my weakness!! I seem to be able to resist the temptation better during the day. Let me know if your plan works to decrease the late night munchie attacks!

My husband got me into the Red Hot Chilli Peppers when we started dating (13 yrs ago!) I heard they were a decent live performance. By the sounds of it you enjoyed James Brown more, that must have been something to see!

I haven't heard of Jarvis Cocker or his band "Pulp". What type of music does he sing? I love all kinds of music, I grew up with alot of different types of music. There was always music on at our house when I was growing up. I find I'm the same way also. I have it on when I clean, cook, if I'm feeling grumpy (to lift my mood!) and ofcourse to dance, preferably in my house with nobody watching to see what I nerd I am, unless ofcourse I've had a few drinks and then I don't care if everyone see's I'm a goofball! Ofcourse its also great to get me through my work-outs!

Your doing great, you have come a long way in 6 months! I hope I can stick with it for the long haul!

I used to graze at night too...its a hard habit to break but it can be done..sounds like you have a great plan in mind!!

And look at how far you have come..I just looked at your weight loss bar and you've lost over 40 pounds!! Thats Fantastic!! Be proud of yourself!!

Secondly, Im so proud of you getting involved in a race. You are going to feel great when you complete it.

Thirdly, congratulations on wearing that fitted shirt and liking the way it looked. Doesnt that make you feel amazing?!

I'm afraid I am only down half a pound this week. This is hardly surprising after my fall from grace on Wednesday night (naughty friends for tempting me!!). Actually I'm a bit disappointed because yesterday morning (Sunday) my scales read 185.5 and I didnt have a bad day so what happened??? Its just one of those glitches that happens !! However I'm still pleased to be going in a downward direction :)

I'm also planning to go out with a couple of girls next week. There likely won't be much drinking though because we usually just do dinner and a movie through the week.

I am going out to dinner on Friday with my hubby and my friend Tracy and her hubby. This will be my first time going out to dinner since starting to count my calories so I hope I can behave!! This is my best friend however and we haven't gotten together in a while so I'm sure we will have to indulge in at least a couple drinks!! We are getting sitters for the kids so that makes it an official "adult outing" wich will be nice.

My hubby and I would love to see U2 in concert, I hear they are great in concert! How was the show?! My husband definetly won't be coming with me to see Gwen Stefani, not his taste! So I will be bringing a girlfriend. Its nice that your kids can go to the University for more reasonable priced tickets. We just had a new Theatre open in our city (Brampton) called "The Rose Theatre". It just opened at the end of 2006 but it has had some decent shows like "Cats", "The Nutcracker" and some decent comedians and singers etc. I went in November to see "Chantal Kreviazuk". I don't know if she is that well known in the U.K. or the U.S. She is a Canadian singer. I love her, she is an amazing song writer and her voice is so powerful and beautiful. She also play's the piano. She is married to the lead singer of "Our Lady Peace", Raine Maida, and she has co-written songs for artist like Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne & Kelly Clarkson (just to name a few)

Anyway, the theatre is beautiful and its built very similiar to the downtown Toronto theatres with lounges and bars on every level (bonus!!) My daughter will get to do her dance recital there on March 25th.

Half a pound is still a loss, don't be so hard on yourself!! Your already down 40 lbs thats a great accomplishment, not to mention its past the half way mark on your goal!! Keep it up, your doing fantastic! Everybody need's a night out to let their hair down occasionally, right?!!

I know what you mean about "glitches"!! I am weighing myself more often than I used to but I don't freak out anymore about a half pound here or there..so many things cause our weight to fluctuate..Don't feel badly..You're doing great and have come so far!!

Another moderately good day for me today. The calories werent bad although I am struggling to keep to the 1400 I set myself, just going over it everyday but without any binging. Did the exercise and drank the water. I have worked out a new strategy for myself which should keep me beneath the cals monday to friday. I will tell you if it works out for me this week. I have to say that I spent a lot of time today thinking about this and planning out my next assault on the health front. I wore a new t-shirt today which is more fitted than I usually wear and i have to say it looked pretty good!!! But I want to look better!

Thanks for telling me about your strategy! I have been going over my calorie limit every day now, so I needed some help. I'm going to try to do something similar by having lunch a little later than usual. Hopefully that way I won't be so hungry when I get home from work. I also tend to eat more later in the day, so it will help me too to have more calories left for that time. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am feeling better after a couple of days back on the healthy eating plan. i want to do the best I can for the next couple of weeks, as I am organising a family party for Friday 23rd of this month, for my second son's 21st birthday, and I really want to let my hair down then!!!! Today I had a good hour on the treadmill. I did my three mile brisk walk in just under 51 minutes, then kept the pace up until I passed the 5 kilometre mark (just over 3 miles), before I started to slow down for my chill down. I am training for my 5 kilometre sponsored race in June. I'm not planning on running the distance but I might do it at a jog if I can build up my endurance in the next few months. The raceforlife is just for women, and you can go at any speed you want. I'm really looking forward to it:)

It's so cool that you are doing this race. I remember when Runner persuaded me to try my first race last year. Unlike her I have no chance of ever winning or anything like that, but it is still a great atmosphere and lots of fun. And it's especially cool to do it for a good cause. I almost signed up for a race to raise funds for breast cancer but it was too early in the morning for me! Still, I would like to do something like that some day. Good for you!

Hi everyone. i'm sorry I have been missing in action since Tuesday but I have had less free time than I anticipated this week. First let me say that I dramatically fell off the bandwagon on Wednesday night. Had a night out with the girls, drank several (?) glasses of sweet white wine, and once I lost all my inhibitions (and common sense!!!) I went on to eat a huge pile of cheese and crisps (what you US ladies call chips). Calorie total totally went thro' the roof but you gotta let your hair down sometime.Because I went out early I didnt have time to exercise either so the day was a total washout challenge-wise!!! Total point for Wednesday , managed to drink the water 2 points.

Thursday was a better day healthwise for me. I went over very slightly on the calories, and managed to get my exercise in, and did the water easily. Points for Thursday were exercise 2 points, water 2 points, no binging 10 points. 14 points in all. Thursday night I had to attend parent-teacher night at my daughters school. It's her last , and most important year at secondary school, before moving on to sixth-form college. She got a wonderful report from all the teachers I talked too. She is very hard working, and on target to get good results in her GCSE examinations. We also received a written report and her form teacher described her as an exemplary pupil, who is a credit to the form and an asset to the school. A lot of the subject teachers have said she has been a pleasure to teach. I am very proud of her!!!

Today has been a good day!! YAY!! Points for today are as follows calories 2 points, water 2 points, exercise 2 points, no binging 10 points, saying something good about myself 10 points. What I'd like to say is that I've been a pretty good parent, who has managed to raise 3 wonderful children to adulthood, who are all a credit to me. Its my most important acheivement to tell you the truth.

It is good having a night out with the girls although i can't even remember the last time that was.I used to go out with my mum alot, now she is no longer with us. My job is very unsociable hours, so i am glad to get in my bed nevermind going out.I was at parents evening on monday and the teachers where made up with my younger daughter(the older daughter is special needs so i have reviews with her teacher and the special needs teacher every term).They are like chalk and cheese in looks, personality and forever arguing!!I would say parenting is the hardest job I've ever done but very rewarding.Get back on track then you will reap the rewards later,Julie

Only 14 points in all

Sorry, no time to read and comment tonight. Tomorrow I am going on a girls night out so i wont be logging on, and on Thursday I have a parents evening at my daughters school but I will log on later that night and write up my challenge points for both days. Quick update tonight. Ive spent too much time already reading and commenting already!!! My weigh-in was good. Another 1.5 pounds gone, hopefully forever!! My nephew has brought round the exercise bike he promised. Its bigger than I thought. Today is my day for no exercise but obviously I gave the bike a 5 minute tryout, and I can already feel that it will be using different muscles than the treadmill. It was quite strenuous for me. I wont count it for the challenge tho'.

Challenge points for today are :-

Positive comments 10 points

No snacking 10 points

Saying something good about myself 10 points. The good thing is that i have followed through on my promise to register for the run for life in June. I have paid registration for myself and my daughter, and set up my online sponsor sheet and i am determined that I will be jogging at least part of the course, not just walking. More incentive to get myself fit for the summer months!!!

Total challenge points 34. i'm very pleased with that:)

Tell me about it,I'm sick of buying sugar and he reckons he's cut down.I have sweetner, and he tried some over the weekend but by his face he was'nt so keen but he said he'll try it again??Good on yer for doing this run,i would end up having two black eyes!!as that is the last place i loose weight.Catch you again Julie
