Good evening, fellow DDers. Another lovely bright but cold day here. I can do cold and dry. I hate wet and anything!!! I had a really nice day at my sisters today. We got to babysit the baby between us while her mum and dad were doing some decorating at home. She was so good, cried very little. She's so sweet now shes at the smiley age :). I had a good day diet and exercise wise. This was the first day I managed to keep to the 1400 cals that I have settled on. I dont feel hungry either, so its definately doable!!

Thanks to everyone who has left comments for me this week. It gives me lots of incentive! Oh its my weekly weigh-in tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

hey all, thanks for the supportive comments. Hubby and I have had a lovely quiet day today. I woke this morning to a beautifully bright but bitterly cold morning. There had been a sharp frost overnight and it didnt quite thaw out, despite the sunshine. I felt better tho, just to feel the sun on my face. It has been a long, mild but wet winter so far so it was nice to see a change. We had a nice slow walk around the local shops by ourselves today. The kids both had better things to do LOL!! Makes a nice change to spend time alone together. Pete very kindly treated me to a couple of new t-shirts, which was nice too.

I have noticed recently that people in general are changing their attitude to me since I have lost weight. I think they dont even realise that they treat larger people in a different way. An example is, when I catch the bus to work in the morning, i would sit by myself on a double seat, and as the bus fills up, people would avoid sitting next to me. it would always be one of the last places to be filled on the bus. Since i have been losing weight however I have been finding that once all the seats have one occupant, the seat next to me is nearly always one of the first to be take now. I hadnt really thought much about it until now, but its definately happening. Also the guy who gives away the free morning paper in the bus station in town, runs up to me everymorning with a cheeky grin, and sticks his paper under my nose. A few months ago he didnt even notice me as a walked by. I dont think people are intentionally ignoring bigger people, they just dont see them!!! Has anyone else found this sort of thing happening to them??

Enough with the chitchat and down to business. Challenge points for today are as follows

0 points for calories. Just went over, and I tried so hard :(

10 points for positive messaging

10 points for saying one good thing about myself which is, I have got so confident in my walking ability that I am about to enrol on the Tesco race for life next summer, a 5km sponsored walk, jog or run in aid of Cancer Research UK. It is often oversubscribed so wish me luck in getting my name down when the lists open on Monday

Hi greengirl I'm back although i have'nt done any entries i still came and was being nosey at other peoples entries.I saw the picture of you, the before and now picture what a difference.I would'nt even think of putting a picture on DD.I have some stored in the computer maybe when i have shed some weight, i will be brave enough to put them in.You've done brilliant keep it up.The reason i give in too easily is that i don't eat enough at mealtimes therfore i get hungry then i think to myself stuff the diet and grab the nearest thing.Also i tend to stick to the same foods not very creative, although i did cooking for 3yrs, you get sick of doing it.Anyway i've got hubby on the band wagon, so i think it makes it a little easier.I'll leave you in peace now catch up tomorrow, Julie

you know, i understand much of what you have to say with people not noticing bigger people. however, you have also become more confident. I'm sure you display that attitude and people can feel the positive drive you have. this also helps make people notice you and want to be near you!

Interesting observation on the bus - I have never thought about it before, but I see what you're saying!

I can't believe that fellow showed up at your library again. Don't let him intimidate you - just ignore him. After all, it's not like he's going to beat you up in the middle of the library! He's probably just trying to scare you. If he doesn't get any reaction he will soon get bored of this childish game and take it elsewhere.

Oh and congratulations on reaching your lowest weight in 12 years! That's incredible!

The other thing that has happened is that you have become more confident and your entries have become more vibrant...you exude a vitality that you have kept hidden all these years under your weight. That is very exciting and attractive to people and draws them to you like a magnet. You probably also smile AT people more and look at them without averting your eyes. You have energy that draws people to you and a positive aura that allows people to feel comfortable and happy in your presence. As we change for the better, the world changes how they react to us for the better. So do not give them all the credit as most of it is because of everything you've done! Pat yourself on the back for that one! YAY!!! Have a great day!

yea i have noticed the bus seat thing definately. Its so ignorant on other peoples behalf but like you said i dont think people realise they do it. Theyre change in attitude shows how much hard work youve put in and changed physically... congratualtions.

Thanks for all the supportive comments about the complete arse I had to deal with yesterday. I have had a lot of support from colleagues at work too so heaven help him if he tries it again. Strangely he showed his face again today!! he came in, sat down at a work table, watched me shelving some books for five minutes and then buzzed off!!! How strange is that?? I hope he's not going to try stalkng me or I'll have to tell the authorities at work.

I have been feeling better since this cold thing I have has come out into the open. I felt much worse for the preceeding couple of days. So Ive decided to start the challenge today with everyone else. I would like to make my next target getting under 180 pounds within the next six weeks. My experience in the last month has made me confident that I can do it. Also I estimate that at the moment I weigh the least I have in the last twelve years!!!I hope this counts as one good thing about myself to take 10 bonus points for the challenge!!

Its just gone midnight here (officially feb 3rd) so my points for feb 2nd are

calories 0 (ooops!!)

Exercise 2 points

No points for avoiding mindless snacking. It was a Mars Bar in the fridge. Wasnt even mine and I pinched it!!! Perhaps I can blame it on the cold!!

10 points for something good about myself. I think that will be the hardest part of this challenge!!

I just caught up with your entry yesterday and can empathize with the problem you had with "the talker" at the library. Occasionally when my computer breaks down I'm forced to go to the library to use one there, and I ALWAYS have a problem w/cell phone users. Despite the fact that there are plenty of signs reminding patrons that cell phones should only be used in the entry area, it's a constant problem. I've gotten into a few verbal fights with these inconsiderate people. The last time it happened, one of the librarians came to my rescue and had some guy stop talking. I was SO grateful and told her so. I simply couldn't think with all the blathering going on. I sure don't envy youu with the difficulty of your job, but you are really helping others who are trying to think and get their work done.

hello everyone. Well I weighed in this morning just to get closure for the month of January but i was exactly the same as I was on Monday even though i have been making good choices since then. Some times its like that isnt it?? A few days with no change and then a sudden welcome drop on the scales. I have been feeling a little ill for the last couple of days, very sluggish with a heavy feeling about my body. Well today I've started with cold type symptoms too so I'm thinking its my turn to have a virus. There have been lots of bugs going around at work and I've been lucky for some time to avoid them.

I am feeling a little unsettled today as I was involved in a rather unpleasant incident with a student and then other weird stuff happened. i guess it was just one of those days!! I was putting some books on a trolley from our holding area which is next to a computer cluster on the floor of the library where i work. The clusters are supposed to be quiet work areas. there are about 60 computers in the cluster for the use of students. Its where a lot of them type up and print their assignments. Anyway this guy sat down at one next to a girl and started to chat to her in a very loud voice. We dont mind if people talk quietly, but loud talking disturbs say at least 10 other students in the immediate vicinity so we have notices up telling them to be considerate, no loud talking, no use of mobile phones, no eating or drinking in the cluster etc. i let the guy talk for five minutes thinking that when he settled down to doing his work he would quieten down, but no, he just carried on talking in a loud, rather upper-class voice, then started laughing VERY loudly and I turned round rather quickly and asked him to make less noise. Because he was making so much noise there was already a hubbub of voices. This is what generally happens. Once one starts, they all start to talk!! Anyway he glared at me then shut up. Yay!! I thought! A couple of minutes later when I turned round he was right there, in my face and towering over me demanding that I tell him what that was all about!! It was very intimidating and I was the only member of staff on the floor at the time. Anyway he was very rude, and talking a load of tripe about academics not having to work in silence any more but I put him straight about the rules of the cluster, and areas where group work could be carried out (in other words, where he could talk and laugh to his hearts content) but he was still scarey. He eventually went off somewhere (probably to complain about my attitude!) and I legged it to my boss to complain too. I was shaking like a leaf. I felt very vulnerable!!! I must admit that I wasnt particularly polite to him but there was no need for him to be so threatening. If I thought that my own sons would treat a poor middle aged woman, who was just trying to carry out her duties, like that I would be mortified!!! One of the problems is that a university education is costing so much now that the students want more for their money. I dont blame them for that but that doesnt mean they have to browbeat the staff!!! Just to top off my day, on my way home I take a shortcut down a little side street where there are a couple of small shops. One of them is a hoover repair shop. As I went past there today, the proprieter was talking to the police and he had obviously been assaulted. His head was pouring with blood from a really bad cut and he looked pretty battered!!! An ambulance was just pulling up as I went by. I heard him saying something to the police about it being a boy who looked in his late teens!! I'm assuming that was his attacker!! That was unnerving too! All in all a most disturbing day for me. Lets hope tomorrow is better.

Sorry for your unsettleing day. I have been struck lately by how (even) much ruder people in general are getting. Here in the the Southern US we have always fancied ourselves genteel and easy going but lately I'm telling you - I have run into more rude behavior. Guess everyone is stressed out - more pressure everywhere. Hang in there. We are always here to be a "quiet refuge" for you! Tee-Hee!

Wow your weight loss so far is really inspiring.... its so nice to break that lower double digit. Yeah and young people are generally rude these days... I think it has to do with to much time in ciber space.... There is no consiquences on the internet...so people just go off... I think this attatude is effecting how our younger poeple interact with others in real life. Its really scary... sorry to hear about your bad day.

Wow, poor you!! I cannot believe that incident with the student in the library!! What rubbish he came up with to justify his attitude! Libraries have been places of peace and quiet for hundreds of years! I am glad you stood your ground, even though you were upset. Well done, you!

If only libraries could "bar" people, like pubs! You could get that guy barred from the library! That would show him!

Hi all!! Just been reading diaries and I'm amazed at how many of us there are these days. Good luck to us all in our endeavours!! Just updating my challenge points for the end of the month

Tuesday 8 points (yay!!!) 2 each for everything.

Wednesday 6 points 2 each for calories, water and veggies .

No exercise today but will be back on the treadmill tomorrow. I have managed to scrounge an exercise bike (barely used!!) from my nephew. I'm just waiting for him to have time to drop it off. I will probably alternate bike and treadmill during the week and stick to the treadmill at weekends. I am going to weigh myself first thing in the morning to have a final loss amount for the month of the challenge, but I dont really expect it to be much different than it was on Monday. It's 9.30pm here and I'm thinking of having a cuppa and an early night. Will catch up with you all soon. :)

ohh, have a great evening! relaxation is good for us and it fuels our workouts! I love it when my body is really relaxed and I feel like I have all the energy in the world for a workout!

great score on getting the bike! I'm sure that will be good for you, working slightly different muscles than you do on the treadmill!

Thanks for the comment you left me. I think you and I do have quite a similar problem sticking up for ourselves. The people around us are so accustomed to the way we used to be, that when we finally try to assert ourselves a little, they wonder what's wrong with us!

Hi all. Weigh-in day today and I am very happy to tell you that I managed to get under the 190. I lost two and a half pound this week (not quite as good as Soonie but I'm still pretty chuffed!!)

Thanks to everyone for your continued support and motivation. You are all wonderful and my inspiration. I think this month has been the most successful one I have had since the first four weeks when I joined the site, back in August last year. Thanks you all again, and especially workingit2 for organising the challenge. I will carry on with the challenge until the end of the month and have a final weigh-in on Thursday morning. Good luck to everyone!!!

Many thanks to everyone who was kind enough to comment on my photos yesterday ( especially horn_of_plenty who is my new best friend for saying she cant believe i've got a 30yr old!!!). I was actually married for three years before I had him too (child bride!!! Stupidly married at 19, divorced at 26). Luckily I have been happily married to my second husband since 1984!!!

I have had another good day today. I love the weekend, so much more time to get in the exercise, and nowhere near as tired as during the working week. I will be having a day off from exercise tomorrow though. Gotta have a break sometime. Weigh in day tomorrow. I'm a little nervous but I think ive done enough to reach my mini goal of under 190.

Points for today 7 in total (1 for calories, 2 each for water, veggies and exercise).

Hi all. As you can see I decided to do a before and after (so far) picture. The before picture was taken in the middle of September last year. I think it was 2 or 3 weeks after I joined this site. The after photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. I hope you can see the difference. I certainly feel different!!!

Challenge points for today are 6 (2 each foor exercise and veggies, 1 each for calories and water). Will check in again tomorrow night :)

Hello everyone. Just a short update to bring my points up to date. I know that the challenge has not inspired everyone, but for me it has been just what I needed at this point in my healthy lifestyle campaign. at this moment in time my priority had subtly changed from it being about the weight, to it being about the fitness. I've never really had the fitness bug before but this time I'm well and truly hooked. Anyway here are my challenge points

Thursday 7 points (1 for calories, 2 each for exercise, water and veggies) Friday 8 points ( yippee!!!! first 8 point day for ages)

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will have done enough this week to reach my mini goal of under 190. I've got two more days to work on it and weekends are usually my best times. Wish me luck??

Thats great that your hooked on fitness, it is encouraging when you start to feel and see the results. I haven't lost to much weight yet but I feel great! I have more energy (with the acception of the last couple days, I think I'm fighting off a cold) I'm sleeping better and much happier!

Thank you for the info for fixing my photos so they aren't so huge!! I downloaded the free software that you said is simple to use. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet to see how it works, hopefully I'll get a chance this week-end.

Good job on the weight loss, your almost at your "mini goal", thats great!

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well and have had no problems this week. Unfortunately I have had a lot of stuff going on with the family and have had very little time to get on here and read and comment on diaries. However I plan to make up for it on Friday when I have to have the day off work in order to be home for an electrician, so hopfully I will catch up with evryones news then. Here are my challenge points for the last two days

Tuesday 6 points, two each for water, exercise and veggies. Wednesday 6 points, two each for calories, water and veggies. I am doing ok challenge wise but hope to do better on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a last effort to get under 190. I am confident (ish) LOL.

In the meantime keep up the good work ladies, and I will catch up with you all soon!!
