Hi ladies. I'm posting again this week now I'm feeling a bit better but I won't update my stats til my weigh-in day, Thursday. I'm sorry to hear that so many of you are feeling unwell. I put it down to the time of year. There are always lots of interesting germs floating about at work at this time of year. The new undergraduates come in September, from all over the world, bringing whatever viruses are prevalent in their countries with them and a few weeks later we are picking up all sorts of weird bugs!!!!!

We have had a couple of misty mornings in the last week which is quite unusual. Since the clean air acts that were introduced in the 1950s the UK doesnt suffer so much with fog/smog type weather. I tried to take some photos with my mobile phone out of the windows (I work on the 3rd floor) and I will try and post one, but mist doesnt photograph very well.

On the diet front I have been doing well. People are noticing now and I have gone down a dress size. My husband is being wonderfully supportive this time. I am doing a couple of miles a session on my treadmill in under 40minutes, which I am pleased with. At the moment I am on a roll :)

I would love to be down to under 200lbs by Christmas but I wont be disappointed if I'm not. I've already decided to let myself really enjoy Christmas food wise, and then get serious again in the new year. Must go now I'm in the middle of reading diaries. Keep up the good work ladies!!!!

Hey everyone, it's that time of week again - my weigh-in day. I'm happy to say that this week I have lost another 2 pounds making my total loss 15lbs. Normally I would be thrilled to bits by this but tonight I can't seem to summon up the enthuisiasm. I think I'm coming down with a virus or something. There are alsorts of bugs going around at work!!!

I think my current weight loss is down to an increase in my exercise. I am doing at least 30mins, five days a week on the treadmill. I've got my time for the first mile down to 18mins then I slow down for the rest of my session. No exercise today tho'. i just feel too crappy. I've got a splitting headache, the first one I've had in weeks. I think drinking more water has been helping me out in that respect. I've definately been having less headaches since I've been drinking more water. I'm going to log off now and have an early night, I will catch up with diaries when I'm feeling a bit better. Roll on weekend!!!!

Good morning fellow DDers. I just have a few minutes to update my stats but I will try to get on later and read more diaries. This morning my scale read 214lb when I stood on it then flicked over to 213.5. I think I'm probably somewhere between the two and the scale couldnt decide which. I will accept the 214 and save the few odd ounces to help with next weeks weigh in. Anyway that means I have lost another 2 pounds in the last week, some of which must be due to the increase in my exercise courtesy of the new treadmill.


I was almost tempted to take a photo of it and post it!!!! My only problem is that it measures distance in kilometres instead of miles so I have to convert them (ie 1.61km = 1 mile) I've been walking 30 minutes and managing a mile in about 22mins but I'm not really breathing hard at that speed so I think I will up the speed next week. I feel great afterwards, sort of exhilarated. That must be the endorphins or something. I will try and read diaries, and comment later tonight. I forget to allow for the time difference between here and the US sometimes. Keep up the good work my friends :)

Congratulations on the treadmill! Am glad you are enjoying it so much.

I have the same problem with my exercise bike - it displays kilometres rather than miles. My scale is also in kilograms rather than pounds. Very annoying as I'm not used to the metric system. There's this great website I use to do conversions: http://www.onlineconversion.com.

**sigh** I am in love..... with my new TREADMILL. It is sooo beautiful!!!! Also thanks to all who left me comments yesterday. You are so full of encouragement and it means a lot to me. Anyway I have decided to have my own personal mantra to help me with my diet, and other aspects of my life. I will repeat a sentence that I was given many years ago. In fact I was in school!! I was naughty in class one day and the teacher gave me 100 lines and what I had to write was " The hallmark of civilization is the ability to control oneself"

I must admit it has never been useful to me in the past 40 years but I am going to put it to use now!!!!

Keep the faith ladies :)

Hi everyone. I have been very busy with work this week which hasn't left me with much time for commenting on diaries but I have tried to read as many as I can. I'm sorry to see that quite a few of you have been a little down in the dumps (depressed) this week. Perhaps it is the time of year.

Here in the UK the nights are getting longer and I always find that a bit depressing. This year I am feeling much better about it tho' as I am feeling so motivated and I am already feeling better for losing a bit of weight. Today is my weigh in day and I am happy to say that I have lost another pound!!!!!!! I know it is only one pound but if I can lose just one a week until Christmas I will be very pleased.Also my husband has been very supportive of me this time. I think he realises that I am truly serious about changing my whole lifestyle. Anyway he has ordered me a treadmill which is being delivered tomorrow morning and I am THRILLED TO BITS!!!!! Another weapon in my war against the fat :)

You might be interested to know that Bill Clinton was in the city where I live, yesterday. It has been the Labour Party Conference, so our Prime Minister has been here all week too. I'm afraid all it means to me is more inconvenience and more traffic jams on the way home from work!!!!! I can honestly say that I have never seen as many policemen in one place at one time, as I saw on the streets of Manchester yesterday.

I wish everyone the best of luck in the fight for good health this coming week and I sincerely hope that those of you who are feeling a little low at the moment will soon be back on top form. I couldn't have made it this far without all your support and inspiration. You are all wonderful. **hugs** to you all xxx

Another pound, fantastic!! I hear that your prime minister, Tony Blair(e?) is going to resign with a year, Brian is happy about that....too bad ours does not do the same, lol. I once wrote to Brian and it was something to the effect that at one time Tony Blair slept on a park bench, just a little tidbit from our newspaper. I then wrote "whoever he is..." Brian thought I was joking but I wasn't, I was not up on world polotics obviously but that was a bit much, lol.

I love my treadmill, I talked my brother into buying one with a t.v. in it, we have cable which is nice. I can see the t.v. from the other exercise machine (elliptical) that we have, really motivates me. Have fun and a big pat on the back for your husband for supporting you, and a huge one for you for doing so well.

Hi ladies (and any gents that might be lurking). Today is my weekly weigh in and , as I suspected last week, my weight loss has slowed down. BUT I have lost a pound so I am still very pleased. Also I had the added problem of my birthday last weekend, including a meal out and 3 boxes of chocolates amongst my pressies. So all in all its not bad news. I think 10lb in four weeks isn't too bad of a start, and it's what I was aiming for. I expect to be fighting every pound from now on.

I've been too busy this week to do more than lurk about reading a few entries here and there. It's freshers week at work and so it has been busier than usual and I've been working more hours. Every year the freshers look younger and more vulnerable, scared because it's the first time they've lived away from home. Having said that, they all smell of beer for about three weeks til they get used to the parties, and nightlife in the big city!!!I always worry about the ones who are on their own, just in case they haven't made any friends yet. I will try to find more time online this week, to read and comment on diaries. Good luck to everyone for the coming week of healthy eating :)

Happy belated birthday! And thanks for your comment. Yes, I knew it was Richard Hammond who was injured, but I didn't know to what extent our American friends were familiar with Top Gear. Although supposedly it is shown in America in a slightly different format.

My brother is experiencing freshers week at the moment too. He says there's pub crawls and speed-dating. Speed-dating?! What's up with that? I thought that was for people who are too busy to meet new people on their own. Seems totally unnecessary for university students.

10 pounds in four weeks, that is fantastic. I have finally got caught up with your entries...you are doing great. By freshers week I am assuming you mean at college of course, lol. Thank you for all the lovely comments, I look forward to reading them...I might need some advice now and then about British men since Brian is coming soon, lol. Actually he is a very lovely man, used to be a consulting engineer after the Royal engineers so he can be a bit of a control freak but I am breaking him of that slowly.

I might be coming your way soon, possibly by next year myself and the boys will be in the UK. I hope we can make it your way....there are so many places and things he wants to show me over there.

Hi fellow dieters, I am in a bit of a pickle today. I am laid up with a bad back and it is frustrating. I did something to it at work yesterday (Friday) and it just locked up. It eased up enough for me to go out for my birthday bash last night, but is stiff and sore again this morning. I have been doing a few minutes stepping every morning to kick start my day and I feel a bit down, with not being able to do it today. It makes me feel brighter somehow every day (must be the endorphins or something)..

Anyway, I went out for a meal with my sisters, daughter and nieces last night but I'm hoping I didn't do too much damage to the diet. Unfortunately I had two boxes of chocs as gifts from work colleagues yesterday. I'm letting the hubby and kids eat those when they feel like one, and I have counted the calories of the ones I have had (58 cals each!!!) I had eaten 885 cals up to going out and I only drank low cal tonic waters while I was out. I didn't have a starter but ate a vegetable balti with rice and salad, and a slice of strawberry cheese cake. The portions weren't huge. What do you think?? I have no idea of the calorie content.

I have added a couple of photos, one of me and my sisters (looking like the 3 witches from Macbeth) and one of my nieces and daughter. Obviously I am the biggest one on the picture of us, and my daughter is the little one in red on the other photo. Sorry about the red-eye, I'm not very good with a camera. Take this as my 'before' picture.

You are ALL lovely! Great to put a face with a journal, thank you! Even if you are laying in bed, you can move your arms up and down and to the sides and that will give you exercise for the day. No need to use weights or anything...and really, no need to do anything until your back feels better so you don't hurt it further! Just relax and think of it as God's way of giving you the gift of relaxation lol.

As far as wondering about the damage last night, I wouldn't. Just let it go and remember it as a happy birthday!

I do hope you feel better VERY soon. **hugs**

This is absolutely incredible, one time Brian wrote to me and used the word "chuffed" and I have to admit that I did not know it's meaning but figured it out within the context of the sentence. I am happy to report that I do know what it means now and was pleased to read it in your diary...little things make me happy, lol. What a lovely looking family you have, you should be proud and looking forward to seeing a photo of yourself as well.

Are you near the River Ouse? I think it is near Ely and Cambridge, this is where Brian is on his boat. Today I think he is in the Denver Sluices, is that right? I also have a good friend, mutual friend of Brian and mine, that lives in Friton on sea or is that on the sea...I get confused. I am looking forward to seeing all these places in the UK, maybe we can look you up too.

hey Brian's girl, thanks for the lovely comments. I do know where the River Ouse is although I am not close. It sounds as if your Brian is further south than I am but if you ever come up north it would be lovely to meet you. Distances are all relative and distances in the UK will probably seem small to you girls from the US who are used to the wide open spaces in such a large country but in such a small and relatively overpopulated country as we are a hundred miles or so is seen as quitea distance !!!
