(Trying to do meal prep for the week as POLR)
Weight: 246.8

A new year, same me. 250.8. Was at 248.8 2 days ago.

Bought a fancy meal prep lunchbox so I can be super healthy and save money.

Progress as of today: 61.2 lbs lost so far, only 66.8 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/26/2017:
I like this lunchbox idea...it has compartments is my guess?

For me, i am also doing something new this year - my lunch always includes a starch, protein, and my extra veggies of course...i make sure to have a healthy starch - not what used to be popcorn and chips which wasn't healthy! i may even move into trying those bean pastas!!!

oh and i'm eating more beans and potatoes...things that i used to steer clear of...trying to be healthier and not discount the higher calorie / denser foods that i used to be afraid. i find i am more satisfied when eating some potato / beans / rice with my meals!

and extra veggies always.

keep on, that's not a major change of weight...just keep on girlfriend!

good to see you post!

happy-1 on 01/26/2017:
Mmmm. Popcorn

Here's the bag... super excited.

thank you - i'll take a look at the link shortly! :) .... THANK YOU!

happy-1 on 01/27/2017:
Yeah, I also went to the dollar store and they had little silicone lunch bottles for dressing that are big enough to hold half n half for a lunch bag (yay afternoon tea) so I bought 6 of those, and 6 little square glass dishes with snap lock lids that I can use for baking individual servings of besan omlettes for breakfasts. There is a whole foods across the street from the new office and if I don't want them to have my whole paycheck, I need to pack a day's worth of food with me. We work 10-7, and I try to be in early, so that means I eat almost my entire day's meals at work.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/27/2017:
Yes good idea to be organized and bring a ton of food to work to be able to eat all day - i mostly bring everything also..and lately changing my meals around to be healthier, buying even more & bringing less chips (but still some days like today) and more healthy carbs like potatoes (they have good potassium), rice, and beans. i used to be anxious eating those foods because of the higher calories, but they are healthy!

Donkey on 01/28/2017:
Ooo, so I actually looked to see what the bag looks like -- what a GREAT idea!!! I hope you find it very helpful!

happy-1 on 01/28/2017:
It arrived last night... I have to say It's pretty cool. Not too huge. It pretty much fits:

1 bottle of kombucha 1 travel coffee cup (though I wouldn't put it in with hot coffee next to cold Kombucha... maybe iced coffee) 1 snack box (sandwich sized) Sistema knife fork and spoon set (although not fond of it.. will look for something better) and a bandanna for a napkin 2 frozen capri sun packs (when they defrost you can drink them with dinner!) 3 divided meal containers from Rubbermaid Other various snacks in and around the edges.

So now I just have to work backwards from what I can fit in the bag to do 4 rotating meal prep menu plans and shopping lists.

I want to get it to where I have 4 lists and 4 plans I just cycle through and prep. My new rule is that when I bring food home from the grocery store, it goes into meal prep containers before it can go in the fridge. Do not stop, do not pass go, do not collect 200 until everything is broken into single serving containers.

happy-1 on 01/28/2017:
Putting it all in an excel sheet... Here was my packlist for today... I probably won't eat it all but I want choices so I don't spend on outside food during the week. (I splurged today and got a cheeseburger. It was a rough week and my inner child needed comfort food)

Bottle Slot 1 Kombucha

Bottle Slot 2 Coke zero

Meal Tray 1 WAFFLES AND EGGS fake omlette, cheese, 2 turkey sausages, 2 blueberry waffles with butter and syrup

Snack Tray - Cold EZSNACKS - Apple slices, carrot sticks, hummus cup, 2 mozarella sticks, half and half

Snack Bag - stuffed in cracks Blueberry crackers, almonds, peanut butter cup, coffee packet, hot chocolate packet, tea bag, honey packet

Meal Tray 2 CHICKEN AND SPINACH RAVIOLI Spinach ravioli, mozzarella, fake Alfredo sauce, chicken strips, frozen veggies

Meal Tray 3 FAST TURKEY SANDWICH White bread, turkey, cheese slices, lettuce, tomato for slicing, mayo packet, mustard packet

happy-1 on 01/28/2017:
I still need to work on the calories/nutrition though. I am starting with what is in the fridge I need to use up and just recording what I prepped. Once I get to the point of being able to start with an empty fridge I'll make more perfect plans. I really miss the diet service meals, but too expensive to do that regularly... I'll just try to make a couple of their meals here and there and assemble what I can from stores.

That New Year's craving where you stayed up tll 1:30 AM prepping all your meals for the week and now it is time for lunch and you just want to go get a pastrami sandwich...

So it turns out a Pinterest tip is true... If you order a bunch of super hot wings and eat those with no dressing or veggies before your pizza arrives you will eat less pizza and reduce the glycemic load of your meal. The capascin in the hot sauce makes you feel fuller faster and the pizza doesn't have that "more more more" quality.

But t takes a lot of wings.

Ordered with my parents (and now they are actually nice... like Jekyl and Hyde), but my dad won't go to bed and is determined to sleep in the chair by my bed instead. He wouldn't eat wings and salad first and had like half the pizza after a full day of other meals so his blood sugar shot super high. It's like trying to get an angry, beligerent drunk to give you the car keys.

B - Buttered roll (yum)

S1/L1 - Mac and cheese, coffee, half and half, chai, hummus, snack pack (carrots, grapes, cheese, pretzels)

L2/S2 - beef, carrot souffle and spinach mini meal

S3 -  7 Quorn fake chicken nuggets, bbq sauce

D - Hot wings, salad, light italian dressing, 1 slice of pizza, coke zero.

Progress as of today: 61.2 lbs lost so far, only 66.8 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/03/2017:
yep - Pastrami sandwiches are good oh yes! Especially those from the Jewish Deli - nice and hot on rye bread with some mustard! wow! yum!

seems you are eating very healthy today! since i had the time this AM, i fully prepped my meals also for the rest of this week. They are in containers, ready for me to take to work - i am wondering why the veggies (some) have already gone bad? maybe some were older than i thought ? stinks! they smelled bad so i ended up throwing some out! haha...i had already placed them with the rest of the food...but the smell was like...yeah...take that part out and throw that part away...hopefully i do NOT get sick this week..lots of mixed up things of leftovers to bring to work this week!

anyway, my point - good job with your eating. sounds healthy. good job adding veggies in and fruit.

innerpeace on 01/03/2017:
I was tempted to by some Quorn - how is the taste/texture? I would like an idea before I spend my $$$.

happy-1 on 01/03/2017:
I really like the chicken nuggets. They are better than real chicken nuggets and I like to dip them in bbq sauce. Which brings up uncomfortable questions about fake chicken nuggets.

Bought a pre-cooked spiral ham on sale at Trader Joes for $4.99 a lb and brought it home. My mom flipped out and we fought for two hours. I was exhausted and must not have heard my alarm (I have to put in earplugs to get to sleep, then it takes a couple of snooze sessions on the alarm for me to actually wake up). I don't remember what happened, but somehow I slept till 9:30 and missed taking my morning dose of adhd meds. The email announcement that payroll was in came at &:30 so I I missed the first two hours of work this morning.

Something has to change. This is awful.

Still have the day off due to no payroll at work. Tempted to go to Ikea and buy some glass lunch containers for meal prep. Healthier than plastic. But a) payroll is late. And b) I have homework. And c) i need to stop doing retail therapy for self soothing, even at the dollar tree.

I advise a big fat NO on the glass because - glass is HEAVY and annoying to carry to and from work. I have glass that i use at home and still bring plastic to work - usually i eat the food cold.

OR, only buy one glass container and bring the food in plastic. and at work, transfer to glass to heat up.

i got so sick of carrying around heavy glass.

Good to keep in mind! That's what I have been doing. Maybe I will just keep on keeping on.

If you wake up late, is it better to shower and blow dry your hair anyway knowing you will feel better all day and be more "with it" or do you skip the shower and blow dry to make up time, but feel lousy all day?

Working from home today. Planned to go toa user group meeting at 6 in the OC... but it is all the way out in Placentia and I don't know that I can pull that off. 57 min if I leave at lunch now. An hour or more if I leave this evening. The other location the group meets at is closer to the train and easier to get to. Augh. It would have been ok if I had gotten up at 5 and left at 5:30 I think.

If I go, I will feel more happy and connected the rest of the week.If I don't go I can keep working here and do homework after work. Decisions, decisions.

Ha totally missed that they gave us the day off to deal with stuff since they don't have funds for payroll. Guess I get to go to my user group meeting after all.

B - MP - coffee, half n half, oatmeal with raisins

Mmm... yes. The joy of shining, flowing locks.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/30/2016:
If I’m going to be late, I will generally rush to get ready. But, driving here this morning to work in the rain, I said to myself (MANY TIMES) how it’s much more safe to take my time and be late than have to pay for the consequences of a car accident….But no, if I’m going to be late, I don’t take the time, as much, to get ready. At my job, it’s VERY day in, day out & most of the women do NOT look absolutely perfectly-groomed EVERY day at all….Many of us do NOT wear makeup. We wear jeans. It’s in an office and most of us do not get any visitors. Nowadays, I don’t even feel lousy when I do not do my hair – I don’t expect to look like I’m going to a party or out to dinner bc it’s not something I wish to spend more time doing…that’s just me. When I do have extra time or after a few extra days off, that’s when I’ll get up a little early or spend extra time on my self-care and presentation because you are RIGHT, dressing nicer and doing yourself up does FEEL GREAT compared to not.

What kind of user group meeting is it? for drugs or alcohol ? I do agree that being involved and doing productive things to give you a boost for a more productive week, oh yes. In fact, I may go to a free concert this weekend on Sunday at the library. It will feel great to listen to live, professional music (think baby-boomer pop and rock and stuff!) for free too! Turns out the Queens, NY library concerts, performances, exhibits & author presentations are really, really good! Like – just as good many times as a performance at Carnegie Hall! For free!

Enjoy your user group meeting….although still not sure what that is?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 12/01/2016:
i actually blew dry my hair partially today....and thought of you...because i was 10 min late and actually was late and look better than usual.

Donkey on 12/03/2016:
If I'm running late, I will rinse off in the shower (soap up, of course) but not wash my hair. I'm usually good with that. Gotta have that shower.

I was thinking that a user group has something to do with computers... not sure why I thought that, LOL.

happy-1 on 12/06/2016:
Yeah, it is a tech entrepreneurs meetup. Just the thought of my own startup is exhausting but I have a killer idea.

Back on track after a fun but also rough weekend. Thanksgiving was awesome, went to two parties. Love my friends. Didn't take adderall on time which always screws with me.  If adderall calms down the billion butterflies I have in my brain and makes them all fly in the same direction (albeit not always in the direction I need them to go), sleeping in post-party and taking it a few hours late makes them all kind of go in the same direction but it is a jittery back and forth progression to the destination.  I sat down, shut up and did not check messages for several days, so did not see the bike chef this weekend.

Also started carpooling this morning. Hopefully I didn't scare her off.

Hi Happy Lady!

Bike chef? I do not know what you mean???

I hope the carpooling works out lady! Also, I know what you mean by things not working exactly as well as they can in your brain or body...I've had a similar situation but i've learned to kind of shut my thinking off when things go astray.

Breakfast and snacks sound nice. Don't even tempt me with the pumpkin pie...i had a wonderfully rich and not too sweet piece at my parent's house for thanksgiving and that will be it for the season. I do not care for lots of sweets anymore because i have found good alternaties, i do eat smaller treats frequently like small granola bars and other snack bars so it's not like i do not eat sweet things, but the bigger pies and stuff i stay away from because i find it's still hard for me to control myself off just one piece. So in general, i stay away.

How was the meat sauce? made with tempeh or tofu? snack is great - i keep forgetting to hard boil my own eggs here at home - will probably do it later in this week or on the weekend. Depends when i run out of food here. I have soooo many leftovers!

and your dinner sounds nice too!

Keep up the good work.

happy-1 on 11/28/2016:
It was meatless crumbles.

I cheat and buy the boiled ones sometimes. Beats picking something up at Starbucks, price wise.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/29/2016:
better off to buy the healthy convenience food than to buy it quadruple price at starbucks. i agree with you - that it's ok to sometimes pay more if you are paying for healthy convenience. I do this a TON.

Woke up more or less on time and made sunday breakfast. I also did a mini meal prep and setup some eggs for breakfast for the week. I tried to make protein pancakes but made a mess instead. Hot strawberry compote turned out weird so I will try adding some apples for compote later.

And aaargh! I tried to make chicken pot pie soup, but I am out of onions. Have to run out to the store to exchange a bike rack anyway, but wanted to be done cooking for the day by lunch... not still cooking at dinner.

Cute chef I met for ramen off Tinder wed night texted. I liked him. He was way shorter than me but super company and likes to go for bike rides.

Progress as of today: 61.2 lbs lost so far, only 66.8 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/21/2016:
So you get along with the biking dude! that's great. Have you gone out with a lot of men from Tinder? any funny or strange stories about it?

I hope you were able to get your onions. Good job on the eggs...i need to prep some too. They are sitting in the fridge - not sure WHAT i'm waiting for! I actually may grill some chicken sausage this morning...nah, waiting until tonight...

happy-1 on 11/21/2016:
I made a dozen eggs, scrambled and slightly under cooked so I can nuke them, but they still turned out dry. I might try to make some turkey chilli to pour over them next week. My protein pancakes kept sticking so I gave up and picked up some Kashi whole grain blueberry waffles and fully cooked turkey sausage patties (no browning required). Decent breakfasts for the week.

Volumetrics-style chicken pot pie soup actually turned out well. Basically, I steamed and pureed two heads of cauliflower, and set that aside. Then I used some healthy margarine to saute a gigantic pile of onions, celery and carrots, and poured in some chicken broth to soften and threw in some parsley, thyme, and pepper, boiled for 20 minutes. I added leftover parboiled red potatoes and chopped chicken breasts (from meal prep setup), and then poured in the cauliflower and threw in a 1/4 cup of mashed potato flakes. I didn't miss the heavy cream at all.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/21/2016:
PS - I found something cheaper than kombucha - i pour at least 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into a glass and then fill it with seltzer (flavored) and then i add sweetener. Extremely low calories like 10-20 most and has the same effect as kombucha! Will save me as much as $3-$4 per day.

happy-1 on 11/21/2016:
Oooh, I'll start doing that too. I like the flavored vinegars in water anyway.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/21/2016:
It works...you will NOT be disappointed...i tend to require more like between 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup ACV in my seltzer i think. i don't measure.

happy-1 on 11/28/2016:
Yeah... Sweet guy. I had a rough weekend and didn't see him but might circle up this week. There's a few things I can't quite piece together in his story... There's a period of time in his life that is unaccounted for. Thinking maybe a struggle with booze.

One day at a time...

Went and hung out with friends in oc today... Best thing I could have done for myself... Dad was in rare form tonight... I think my shrink is right and I need to avoid cooking nice dinners and trying to sit down to eat together as a family. It just creates more problems than it is worth. He was pretty cruel at dinner, then about midnight got me up out of bed looking for some blueberry fiber one bars I had in my earthquake supplies. I went to look and didn't see them. He accused me of deliberately screwing with him... Super nice... And food hoarding... Which is super weird because I just have normal pantry stuff and then 4 plastic bins of canned goods and stuff that is easy to make on a camp stove if we have an earthquake. It's about 4 days of food and water for 4 people and a dog... Nowhere near FEMA's 14 days... That would be like 2 paychecks. My parents had zero supplies so I stocked Up. I do have a lot of beans and spices in my normal pantry stuff, but I make a lot of indian food. They only sell that stuff in bulk. Like a bag of the right kind of cumin in the smallest size is 1 lb. Plus then I use more spices which have health benefits. I even make my own muscle rub and face masks now. My parents only buy prepared foods and I only buy bulk foods, so we end up with 2 pantries and a lot of conflict. I wish I could do staples like protein powder, dry milk, flour and salt in bulk like at a co-op because it is better quality and super cheap, but my parents would flip out.

B - jack in the box sandwich, iced tea L - trader joes pizza S - mac n cheese cup D - kombucha, tri tip, southwest pilaf, salad w blue cheese dressing. I gave my dog the leftover tri tip Because at least she loves me, lol S - quesedilla S - chai tea, chocolate biscotti

Hi Happy! Nice to see you back here posting again…hope you don’t mind my comments. I like to comment on what works for me and/or relate to what you guys are eating if it’s about food. I also like to hear about relationships, etc.

Yes, maybe the food is really salty when camping? That can lead to water retention? Also time of month might do it also…or it could be cumulative weight gain over more than just this weekend but you weren’t weighing regularly is my guess? Weight can totally sneak up on us!

Lightened up mac and cheese sounds awesome. How do you lighten it? I would probably add cauliflower? or egg whites in it! I hope you do get paid tomorrow, what a royal pain if I had to experience that & pay rent! Omg… Stay well Happy.
