Back from taking a night off to get back on track.  I booked a hotel room the friday night before my sleep study at pandemic prices just in case I needed a last minute bail out to get back on track enough days before my sleep study to keep my sugar and sleep habits under control for the study... Friday nights I just tend to derail... So I went where I had no tempting fooods, chores to do, Netflix to watch, mess to be overwhelmed by, or relatives to fight with/feel guilty about... and I put on my jammies and was asleep by 9pm. I did wake up at 3am STARVING and urgently needing to pee.

I also have a weird suspicion that I actually have kidney stones because yesterday I started my third antibiotic and I feel a little worse today than I did yesterday. I went to urgent care on Friday for a culture and more antibiotics though and I have a follow-up GP appointment on Tuesday.

I might need to reschedule the sleep study. No way will this yield a usable result. UGH!!!!

At least I know that works to keep me on track and on habit when things are going wrong. Super tempted to book another hotel room for next Friday just in case... but $$$ vs benefit. Maybe I will decide on Wednesday.

I started keeping score on my 10 benchmark habits. I decided that if I score 10 in 1 day, I get a $1 scratcher lotto ticket. If my stats are in the target range (blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.) I get bonus points to help get me back up to 10 for the lotto ticket. I went through my logs to see when my stats and habits put me at "10" for a day and I had 2 (the two days before that terrible nurse practitioner didn't treat my UTI... aaaargh).

I have a friend who did a sleep study. They said has apnea and prescribed a cpac or whatever it’s called & she hated it and stopped. No repercussions.

happy-1 on 06/12/2021:
I don't want high blood sugar and a UTI to hide a sleep brainwave issue with REM, separate from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea would show up but a brainwave issue would get hidden.

Jacky82020 on 06/12/2021:
Sounds complicated. Good luck with it all.

It's been a long time since I had the sleep test but as far as i know...it just registered how many times and for how long I stopped breathing.........Mine was pretty bad...D's was more moderate...we both got CPAPs .( they were set to our needs as far as strength goes when they arrived)....Mine was set so high..that i found out it could burst a lung and stopped using it.......D eventually stopped using his too. If mine hadn't been set so high..I would still be using it...because both ways have their dangers.....BUT...it's been a few years without it...and I for some reason no longer wake up gasping for air.........like I used to.....so i don't really give it any thought anymore. Actually during the test.....I had a really bad episode and woke up in a panic...both arms flew up in the air...and i was gasping for breath...the tech actually saw that happen...i mentioned it to him in the morning and he said he saw it.....I think that was probably the worst episode i had ever had and he saw it.

i have a friend, not a close one, but i know she recently moved in with her father. she sometimes takes trips and stays at hotels, i am sure it's because she just wants to be by herself also..

happy-1 on 06/13/2021:
LOL. Just a little time to de-stress and not have to answer to anyone or be "on call" to help. Just turn off, tune out, and sleep. No hot boyfriend to also have to coddle and do for... even if there are benefits to the company!

Donkey on 06/13/2021:
Apparently, they don't need a lot of sleep time in order to make an assessment. If rescheduling takes you too far out (time-wise), I say give it a try.

CPAP machines are adjustable. Husband has had his adjusted a few times. They have chips in them that give the doctor feedback, and the strength can be changed. (This is directed towards Bear's comment.)

Last year, we took a trip to see our son, and Husband left a part of his machine at home, so he couldn't use his machine. Oh my goodness, the snoring was so loud and immediate.

When her kids (5 of them - a set of twins and a set of triplets), my sister in law would book a night in a hotel about once a month, use their spa services, and sleep overnight, just to take a break. I get it.

happy-1 on 06/13/2021:
Yeah but if sugar is high that sample time is messed up regardless of how long it is.

bearcountrygg on 06/13/2021:
They set our machines to what they thought were our needs....but no one ever mentioned that we could have them adjusted...and I never thought of it...(mine was really blasting compared to D's ).....I didn't think to ask them to lower it....actually it only took a couple of nights to adjust to....( you have to keep your mouth closed or the air rushes out)....but I did sleep really well with mine ( I'm a sleeper anyway though)....If anyone ever suggested I try it again I would if they set it a little lower.

happy-1 on 06/13/2021:
Amazing. I know my friend had his whole life turn around once he got his CPAP. My dad has sleep apnea and snores a lot. I don't snore at all and Circuul finds no issues with oxygenation overnight. I probably don't have sleep apnea.

TY!! Inch by inch.

Inch by inch I will make my way back up. I can do this. I can, I can, I can.

Took last bactrim for uti tonight. I should feel peppier by now, right? I just dragged all day. No paperwork. No bills. Nothing that digs me out or moves me forward. Just finally pushed myself enough to go grocery shopping. I also went to the dollar store for cat suplies.

Momma cat now has two cat boxes side by side in the bathroom. Hopefully she will stop pooping on the floor and dragging her blanket into the box and I can relax a little. We aren't exactly getting on... To be fair she has been stuck in that bathroom for a while now. I've been letting her out in my bedroom and letting her explore. Today she ignored the cat scratch pad and went for my mom's beloved rag rug. I picked her up and she hissed at me and clawed me a little... which landed her back in the bathroom. We aren't really bonding. She wants food, petting, and to be around me... she does her little "Feed me" dance... but zero interest in cuddling up or sitting next to me when she is out of the bedroom. It's a little disappointing and not really worth the hassle.

Tomorrow, I clip her claws. She keeps sticking to everything she walks on.

I just want to sleep for a million years and then wake up and everything is done and taken care of.

  1. BP1, yes!
  2. 10cr, no

  10. 9bed. sort of... 9:30ish.

I totaled up my habits and "in range" stats last week and had two days I scored at least 10... so I pulled out 2 $1 lotto scratcher tickets and checked to see if I won anything... I didn't... but maybe I will.

Some cats are just stanoffish.....I will say that I had to try several different scratching posts before I found one that sampson accepted...he was using our stairway railing post and that was not going to continue to happen...Would tell him no when he did..and I got some 2 sided tape to apply on it....they don't like that.......he now uses a tall scratching post that seems to be his main place...( there is a 2x4 in the basement that he is shreading down there and we don't care....every once in awhile he scratches the carpet too...usually when he is trying to get my attention......cats and dogs are just opposite....dogs appreciate...cats control...LOL...they do their own personalities....though.

happy-1 on 06/12/2021:
Everytime you talk about Samson I picture a 30lb bobcat mix.

bearcountrygg on 06/11/2021:
I might be wrong...but she may be upset that you are putting her in the bathroom.....they really do like to have freedom to roam the house at will and take being restricted personally......it can take some awhile to warm up to you..and agreed...some never do and are aloof forever. I know when Sampson gets upset with me...he tears around the house at high speed......( getting his frustrations out...as well as scratching his scratching post. He likes to sit on my lap as long as I'm scratching his head...if i stop...he gets down....he isn't a snuggler..he likes to call the shots. He follows me around all day ( unless he's sleeping)...he shows his love differently than a dog for sure. Personally...I consider cats narcissists!!!

happy-1 on 06/11/2021:
It feels a little silence of the lambs… I’m letting her out, seeing what she does and then modifying the environment to accommodate whatever her habits are. I think she wants to be able to look out the window… so I’ll dig my last cat’s scratching post

Donkey on 06/11/2021:
Keep on trying!

My tortie cat (Baby Kitty) is very fickle. She's often skittish around me, but then sometimes she just loves to be in my lap.

My boy cat loves me (or at least he loves my food), and I love him. But he is not a cuddle buddy at all. No lap, but sometimes he is content to share the love seat sofa with me.

My old girl LOVES to cuddle - to the point that I can't even move. So be careful what you wish for.

happy-1 on 06/11/2021:
HA!!!!!! You've got a "Stage 5 backpack" in cat form

horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2021:
thank gosh you are taking care of the UTI...those are the WORST! you suffered too long this time with it.

it may take a couple months or even up to 4 months to bond with kitty kat...

that's how long it took for my guineas to get used to me...and those are the older 2. my younger one is still too energetic to cuddle at all. i got the younger one around february i think...so 4 months hasn't been enough with the little guy.

Still struggling to get back on habit. Today was a lost day. Damn that nurse practitioner.

Started with water and a 14h fast. Stayed up too late and now I have insomnia.

Let momma cat out of bathroom again. Was giving her treats, I ran out of treats and she took a swipe at me. Sweet otherwise.

One foot in front of the other.

Donkey on 06/10/2021:
Gotta keep on trying - and I know that you are. Those road blocks (e.g. nurse practitioner) can be frustrating, though...

That's too funny about your cat. Well, she is a tortie cat, and they are fickle spirits, indeed.

I think most of my daily difficulties are directly related to staying up too late.

happy-1 on 06/12/2021:

Hope it all gets better for you....your cat has some street smarts....there are a few of us here owned or previously owed by a cat....mine has decided that if I ignore his pleas...he should just hiss at me....or knock something off a flat surface.......we do exist for them for sure.

Tried my best today. I can only do my best. Tomorrow I will do better.

I tried not to push myself today. I do need to get back on habit. My sleep study is coming up. I need to be on habit to make that work.

Kept my mind off mom's birthday (and caregiver agency drama) by working on stats. Celebrated by (finally) letting momma cat explore my room and take a nap on my bed. I present to you the first nap of a cat who hasn't had a real home and a real bed in a very long time, and is slightly annoyed I snapped a pic and woke her up.

bearcountrygg on 06/09/2021:
She is beautiful.......Sleep studies are interesting......I don't know if they have changed a lot.....it's been about 20 years since I had one.....my best hints are take your favorite pillow, wear something comfy to sleep in, do enough physical exercise ( wear yourself out) before getting there and try to relax and enjoy the night away...kind of like a mini vacay.....There was a lot of sensors on my face, chest...etc..( maybe it's different now)...i was super aware of not wanting to mess those up...but I think it affected my sleep...i only slept for 4 hours...and it was enough to get a reading..Now I am convinced that if i had affected a sensor...they would have come in and fixed it.....so I would say now...just relax and enjoy the mini vacay......( nothing painful happened)....and they are watching you basically all of the time.....if you need to get up to use the bathroom...( I needed antacids which I brought with me)....you can speak out loud and they will hear you and be right in....all in all not a bad experience.

Donkey on 06/09/2021:
SO ADORABLE!!!! Oh I love her already!

Both my Husband and my co-worker's (Nice Lady's) grandson have had sleep studies done, which have both resulted in CPAP machines. Both said that they didn't feel that they slept long enough for a good study, but the sleep-ologists have said to both men, that they had enough data to make an analysis. So there's that.

Yep, all you can do is your best. Maybe that's enough? I mean, if we all tried our best every day, then that's all that can be done.

innerpeace on 06/09/2021:
I agree- your best has to be enough! I had a take a sleep study - they gave me a case with straps and an oxygen cannula to put on my nose and told me to turn it on when I went to bed and turn it off when I got up. I then sent the entire case back and it was able to relay the information it recorded during the sleep.

I love your cat!

bearcountrygg on 06/09/2021:
Oh that is interesting that IP was able to take hers at home.....I've had heart monitors done at home...but not a sleep test...interesting.

horn_of_plenty on 06/09/2021:

Today was another exhaustion day. Didn't have to be... apparently GP office never followed up on my uti issue... I could have had antibiotics 2 days earlier. Excluding all data since wednesday through the end of this week while I get back on track and habit.

Awww...Hope you feel better. Time to relax and heal.

Donkey on 06/08/2021:
Keep trying! It's good that you are stepping back to reset yourself. It's hard to do when you're distracted by an annoying UTI.

I'd be kind of annoyed with my doctor's office for dropping the ball on the UTI, probably not enough to change doctors, but still... kind of disappointing, and something not easily forgotten.

horn_of_plenty on 06/08/2021:
oh my, UTI is terrible without relief of antibiotics, i hope you feel better soon.

Jacky82020 on 06/08/2021:
Once when the PCP wouldn’t prescribe for a UTI unless I went in, I ordered hundreds if not thousands capsules from an American owned pharmacy in India. Cobbled together enough old antibiotics from around the house to take care of that UTI, but never had another since my stash arrived. I have quite the home pharmacy here

happy-1 on 06/08/2021:
Smart. I do get a little nervous about the foreign pharmaceuticals.

Jacky82020 on 06/09/2021:

Jacky82020 on 06/06/2021:
Sorry you’re having trouble sleeping. I always do and expect no end is insight. Sucks! Take one smallish Xanax at bedtime. Sometimes it helps a little and other times not at all. Did Ambien for 10 years and quit. Became progressively useless. OK at first. Tried everything under the sun.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/06/2021:

Did my best today... knew it was going to be hard...dad had a health appointment and that always wears me out. I planned aheaf that today would be a recovery day and I wouldn't have to do anything... but I still stayed up too late and ate the wrong things. Mostly because I was so tired it took me forever to pull together doing my nails.

Mama cat passed her giardia test, but had worns. Already had her dewormer... I would let her out of the bathroom but I pulled my room apart looking for my uti test strips and I am worried she will pooop everywhere. Weirdly she poops in her box and directly next to her box... what is up with that?

Progress as of today: 101 lbs lost so far, only 56 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 06/05/2021:
She might be in her littler box but missing the box...she may need a larger one......I have used the plastic storage boxes occasionally in the past when a cat was doing that...( the larger low ones...they are hard to dump out when it's time to totally change the litter though.) She may also be kicking the litter out and then seeing that on the floor think it's okay to go there.

Jacky82020 on 06/05/2021:
Maybe a deeper box? I use a dish pan, or whatever they call it for washing dishes in the sink. Also, Walmart has big litter boxes. Not as deep as the dishpan, but bigger. I have one of each for my 3 cats. But even so, they occasionally get their butts too close to the edge and a poop flies out. YUK!

Donkey on 06/05/2021:
She may be a little picky. These are some of my suggestions, based on my experience, so I've done all of these at one point or another:

I would start by cleaning out her box more often.

Also, you can put newspaper or a piddle pad under the litter box, to help you with clean-up and germs (if that's your thing).

Perhaps a 2nd box? You "should" always have 1 more box than you have the number of cats. Many cats will use one box for tinkles and one box for poopies.

I like the idea of a deeper box. If the box you have has a lid/hood, some cats don't like that.

She may improve once she's rid of the worms. Poor kitty! She's so lucky you rescued her!

Let me say, that I do and/or have done all of the above, and yet still, I have a cat that will miss the box on occasion but I hope some of these ideas might help.

bearcountrygg on 06/05/2021:
Jacky and Donkey have some good ideas.
