(Paleo + beans diet and a 3x a week bootcamp)
Weight: 246.2

Got home a little before midnight, stayed up till 2AM setting up meals last night... Mostly due to interruptions. Next time I do this I'm using a stopwatch and clocking how long this actually takes me without distractions.

4 days of food was super pricey. I've been trying to do meals on $7 a day and hovering around 10, but this was over 17 before delivery... largely due to buying 2 prepared salads a day.  I'm shooting for 4 days because I end up eating out a couple of meals a week and then I just move the prepacked stuff over to the 5th day.

Still need to do the nutritional information and photos to go with it. Looking forward to making this a gift.

Progress as of today: 61.8 lbs lost so far, only 66.2 lbs to go!

Keep up the good work - it looks very organized and thought out!

This idea of shopping online and then just picking up was a huge lightbulb moment for me. This never occurred to me, but it makes sense because a lot of times I'll go shopping for 10 things and come out with a cart full of food. I could see where it might be advantageous to approach grocery shopping and meal prep in this fashion -- especially towards one's budget, even though I'd be paying extra for the services.

I spend so much of my free time on weekends food shopping, too. I must explore and rethinking this option. thank you very much for bringing this to my attention!

Sam's club has free in store pickup, as do some Ralphs and Vons. We can all thank the baby boomers for aging as a group and requiring changes to services.

Ow. Just Ow. OMG.

Did my second workout with the boot camp last night. It was insane. I have no idea how my body kept moving the whole time... must be the "herd" thing. I just about cried walking up the parking ramp... The guy at reception was like "Are you ok?" All I could say was "Squats, so many squats." He just laughed his ass off. I got two cups of coffee at the same time this morning so I wouldn't have to stand up to walk back for the second cup.

Cleaned out the fridge when I got home after the workout. I was in so much pain but weirdly active. I took all my remaining prepped meals and put them in my dad's section of the fridge, which made him obnoxiously happy. They were all grain-based which isn't the menu plan for the bootcamp. I even cooked dinner and took my dog on a run, which shocked her. I never run when I walk her.

Got the breakdown from the delivery service today... They posted a refund for the difference between what I was billed and my total. I signed up with a 30 day free trial, so after this month I will be charged $19.99/mo for the service if I keep going. Here is what it cost me:

Groceries from Trader Joe's - $129.53 (No markup)
10% of bill as Service Fee - $12.95
Flat Delivery Charge - $12.00
Gratuity - $18.00 (I should have added another 1.35 to make it 18% but I did the math wrong in my head)
1/4 of subscription fee, if you assume I get 1 grocery delivery a week= $5.00 (waived in 30 day trial)

So the total additional cost for using delivery was $47.95... But really $49.30 if I had done the math right. Interestingly, one of their competitors that will do a Costco run for you runs about the same without a monthly fee but doesn't offer Trader Joes.

Not terribly cost effective over the long term... Or really this week even... But for just getting setup and started and not tempted off track... a good experiment.

Yes i think taking classes SURELY makes us think we can do more bc we feel we can when part of that group atmosphere. i would always get most sore after those group classes when i did take them in the past in college (over 10yrs ago). They def worked but i guess we should keep in mind that it's OK to go at our own pace? LOL...

Many times i really do workouts that use up like ALL of my energy - i come home and head straight for the couch LOL...sometimes it's good and i sleep SO WELL also.

That's a HIGH cost for delivery, approx $50...it sounds NOT REASONABLE to me as I could never afford such a high markup / additional fee. I agree with you that it's completely not cost effective but maybe if those stores had something you love that can last a long time (like a special ice cream i like thats not available everywhere), it could be worth it as a gift to yourself if you place a huge order...otherwise, yeah i agree with ya! too much dinero!

I’m a little sleep deprived and this morning I lost in sequence my id badge, car keys, wallet and phone. The trackers I bought as part of my hot mess project located them in seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There is an end in sight!

Also... The delivery lady was super nice and it was really easy to get a delivery done. I just waited down in the parking lot and she drove right in and followed me down to my car. I got everything into the cooler... It barely fit! I am super glad I deleted all the extra refrigerated items... only the lunch I was planning on eating today didn't fit. I added a little cash to bring the standard tip up to 15%. I am looking forward to checking stuff off my list and then seeing how I was billed for it.

great idea: everytime you buy something, you put away cash in a fund and once a year buy stock in that company for the same amount. Like a bulk purchase on scottrade.

This is awesome... Gauge Girl goes shopping at Target and picks products for the week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlabMocms-4

I however did Trader Joes online tonight through a delivery service... Trying to avoid impulse shopping and get time back for homework... But I ended up building my list obsessively all night instead.

Kind of scared about it because a charge came through for $195 when I thought with fees it would be about $120... But I hope it is just that some of the items didn't have prices so they added some padding. $120 is still pretty high when you consider that it only makes 4 days of meals, but maybe I miscounted on the servings and actually have a week of food with some portions frozen.  It also gets pricey because there's no cheap carb fillers like bread and pasta or dairy for protein... It might also be more than I would normally buy in a single trip. I may end up keeping this shopping trip in the cooler all week... Augh.

Produce is much cheaper at Sprouts and normally I coupon. Buying it all at once means I'm going to be stuck eating pretty much the same thing every day for a week.  It would be better if my mom would partner up with me and do meal prep with me, as I could set up meals for everyone,.. but she doesn't want to do that. Very frustrating. My dad would very much like it if someone just made him meals he could stick in the microwave but he won't give up filling the freezer with lean cuisine, which I would need to do meal prep.

And so the cycle goes.

Oh man... my favorite little diet meal pickup place "My Fit Foods" is out of business. They closed and left a lot of people who prepaid for meals to get the discount high and dry. No easy button this week :-(

BUT!!!!  I found this video on 5 min meal prep from Trader Joes from a video blogger on Youtube:

Probably high in sodium but yum.

sorry about your store, I also rely on stores in community and not only my own cooking...so sorry that's stinky! hopefully there are one or two others stores that are similar nearby?

happy-1 on 03/13/2017:
I dunno. I think I will be doing the Trader Joes meal prep thing.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/13/2017:
TJ's IS good...lots of tasty frozen things ... just maybe a hair salt? but good idea, YES!

happy-1 on 03/13/2017:
yeah. it looks like there are a couple of services that deliver. I'm going to try them and see if it reduces my impulse buying and costs less overall also. They also go to Costco!!!!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/13/2017:
OH NICE! the services go to costo? hmmm...would be good if you are sharing with family (big portions!!!) nice...let us know Happy Lady.

Met Jared Spool in person!!!!!  So exciting. He was pitching his new $60k 2 year unacredited program for team design. Augh. If I win the lotto maybe.

Got a hotel room last night with the plan of doing homework but mostly slept. I'm seriously sleep deprived.  I try to go to bed at 11, but my parents go to bed about 2am. Ugh.

At least I had a successful trip to the 99cent store and got lots of canned sardines and a few cans of salmon packaged in ok countries for my poor phosphorus deficient dog.

30 min late to class.

B: bagel / cream cheese

L: MP sandwich

What will I do with all the food in the fridge that isn't on the diet for the fitness program I am doing? Ugh.  Mostly grains and dairy. And peanut butter!!!!  How am I supposed to live without peanut butter????

mylilsista on 03/12/2017:
I tried to go without bread. But in time, I felt very deprived. Eventually I fell into binge eating & gained back the weight I had previously lost. So, this time, I gave myself the gift of 35 calorie bread; it's delicious and I do not feel deprived.

I eat it (almost) daily and have averaged losing 3 lbs a week just by counting calories and incorporating lower-calorie versions of foods that I actually enjoy, into my weight loss plan. That is just MY experience..Perhaps you enjoy your Paleo & bean diet and it works well for you :)

Either way, good luck. You've already lost nearly 62 lbs! That is AMAZING!

Hugs! Lisa

Yeah I don't think anything extreme ever works, but I want to reach my goal and be in good shape so I can do the pct but also have more fun... all the good stuff reuires a min level of fitness

Horn_of_plenty on 03/12/2017:
If you like peanut butter, include it in your diet!

In the end, it's you in charge of YOU!

happy-1 on 03/12/2017:
Good point! I'm not going to make any extreme changes... just going to try to see if I can come up with some recipes that fit the diet. He has greek yogurt in there so it isn't strictly paleo. Makes it harder because I can't just google "paleo meal prep" andstay on target... I'll see what I can come up with.

(Trying to do meal prep for the week as POLR)
Weight: 246.2

In my typical overreaction to things.... I decided to conquer hypothermia and the general feeling of being at the mercy of a cold cruel world with an agressive plan to toughen up. I signed up for a 3 day backpacking trip with REI for the PCT called "Into the Wild". Someone clearly did their maket research and I fell neatly into the snare. Since I cannot even keep up on a level 2 Sierra Club hike, I have decided to go to a fitness bootcamp organized by my old boss who did a career change and is now a fitness trainer. I went to the first one last night, didn't die, and then today I signed up for 69 more... every workout on my schedule between now and the departure date.

The nutrition plan looks disgusting. He really needs to make it more appealing, maybe with some recipes. Pretty sure my current meal prep and half n half with my coffee doesn't fit a "Paleo with Beans" diet.

Plus I really want a brownie.

Just blew $150 at Old Navy for some tall size workout wear. Running last night was really hard... my fancy Lucy gear fro REI was a Fail. The shirt kept riding up and my yoga pants kept falling down.  AAAARGH.  I bought 3 sets of tall size workout clothes all in black since there is a sale plus a discount code (ENJOY)... 3 workouts a week means 3 sets of clothes if I only want one laundry day. Anything that doesn't fit I will just return. I also bought some running shorts since I don't have any quick dry shorts for summer right now. REMOVE ALL BARRIERS!!!!!

mylilsista on 03/10/2017:
Wow...I admire your commitment to workout until your departure date but you are right, the nutrition plan sounds unappealing.

happy-1 on 03/10/2017:
Yeah, I figure I will put together some recipes and meal prep packing plans... See how it goes and then give them to him as a gift at the end. Maybe treat him to some branded meal prep lunch bags. He needs some information architecture and user experience work on his site to make it easier for people.

Donkey on 03/11/2017:
New workout clothes are so motivating! This sounds like an exciting new adventure. I look forward to reading about your preparation and execution of your new goal!

Found my apple watch!

And TMI WARNING ---> Figured out how to reseal the base of my toilet <------ END OF TMI WARNING.

Very proud.

Went to Vons on the way home and tried to pick up some healthier things to space out the prepared foods. Salad, veggies and 60 cal a slice high fiber bread.

Progress as of today: 61.8 lbs lost so far, only 66.2 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/08/2017:
Yeah heard great things about Trader Joe's and easy to heat up their foods!

Resealing base of toilet must have been GROSS ??

Yes, salad and veggies will lighten up the prepared foods...that's what i do too...balance "real food" lol with tons of veggies (also real but the base to my meals as well).

happy-1 on 03/08/2017:
Yeah. Super frustrated about how fast things go bad when you buy them in convenience packaging. I had some butternut squash cubes I bought last week and I steamed and mashed it. I tried it before I cooked it and thought it was fine but today it was vinegary so I think it spoiled :-(.

Donkey on 03/09/2017:
Did you need to replace the wax ring? Or did you caulk around the base? I'm not so sure that fixing a toilet is a gross as having to clean one... That's about as far as I get.

happy-1 on 03/10/2017:
Somehow half the original caulking crumbled away and the toilet was moving back and forth... threatening to break the wax seal. I got some mighty putty to fill in the missing caulk and create a new watertight seal. There wasn't really a way to strip out the old caulk... it wasn't strippable. I don't think it was caulk.

I'll have to fix it correctly someday, but for now no danger of breaking the wax seal.

Bouncing back from hypothermia. Nothing like almost losing a few brain cells or a finger or two to give you renewed dedication to your health.

And missing out a super hot guy that your friend backstabs you to get to. But I digress.

To make sure I get back on the horse, I signed up for a 3 day backpacking trip on the PCT with REI for October. That's my training goal and timeline.

Next I signed up to go to a test class for my old boss' small business... a meetup bootcamp training session. I expect to be abused mentally and physically, cry like a little girl, and puke a lot... but ultimately be a better human.

March 24 I am going to get my car evaluated at Carmax and see what I have to work with to get a 4x4 vehicle.

And to kick off the whole thing I crunched the numbers on my meal prep today. Apparently I thought I was roughly in the ball park... but was nowhere near what I actually need to be just to keep walking around on this planet for any length of time. OH MY FING GOD WHAT HAVE I BEEN THINKING??????? The sodium levels alone must be turning me into a salt lick.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/08/2017:
So how'd you get the hypothermia??? glad you are ok!

Guys are the end all to us women right!? UGH MEN! How they mess with our emotions and sanity! LOL...

Sodium is easy to go over...probably can prevent it by cooking and preparing like you usually do your own food...lately i cook more too...finally baked my cabbage in oven and was SO TASTY...planning to roast / bake more veggies on the weekend or next week :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/08/2017:
also, besides veggies, i'm starting to cook my own meat and hopefully white (light) fish types soon...no fish yet.....

and i also am cooking carbs....like potatoes, cooking bananas, rice & couscous! I feel so cool that I can fully cook :-) and know it's all cheaper and everything! Planning to cook turkey burgers again tonight :)
