(Healthy Eating and Exercise)
Weight: 0.0

Another good day to report.  No real exercise.  Was too tired from getting up at 4:30.  Daughter had an early morning and I got up with her and made coffee.
I didn't over eat at all.  Can't remember all what I ate - but very low calories.  I was due a day like this - needed it!  First one in a LONG LONG time.  I feel a little lighter  -  a good feeling, although I know it's because of water weight loss.  It's a start.  I think my foods were:  Iced coffee, 1/2 apple, a few grapes, vegetable beef soup, small piece of cornbread, a few crackers and cheese and trail mix - 1/2 C (1/4 C at a time).
Today I am going to try to write something for the Community Political group I have become acquainted with regarding the ACA replacement.  How did I get myself in this?  I don't want to do it, really, but can't resist trying it for awhile.  We'll see how it goes.
I am going to have another good food day and I'll work on exercise.  I have a lot of reading to catch up on for my church group and I need to start work on cleaning out my clothes closet!  A task I have been procrastinating on for months and months!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/08/2017:
Remember to take care of you, Holly! Your daughter is adult so you do not always have to get up with her...but i think you said she just moved in - so everyone is getting used to all the changes in your household (i forget what it's like as i live on my own, so perhaps my first couple sentences here are a bit harsh and no understanding of a home situation where it's not just one person living there...).

Glad it was a light day, if you can be moderate the rest of the week, this light day will pay off. This is what i do- moderate all week and a light day here or there totally brings the average calories for the week lower and i do lose weight if i keep doing this over a period of a month or so.

Are you sure you do not want to do it? You do not like the challenge? Maybe the challenge is good for you? for you intellectually?

Keep up the good work, I was cleaning up my closets this winter and hope to clean extra maybe late Spring or Summer...there's some things that don't fit....

and i took shoes from my mom that are a half size too small, not gonna wear them! why'd i even take them!? maybe they'll fit better with stockings / tights.

grannyannie on 03/08/2017:
Well done on the loss Holly. Yes, go for it on fighting the ACA replacement!

Donkey on 03/09/2017:
I enjoyed this! You sound very busy - thank you for your work regarding the ACA.

So far a great day.  I walked two miles, I have eaten fine.  I had a birthday lunch today at a famous steakhouse and just had to have the filet they are famous for.  So.....only iced coffee for breakfast.  Ate 1/2 the steak for lunch - brought the other half home and finished it for dinner.  I had one roll with butter and corn pudding (a souther specialty I love and this restaurant does very well).  I am going to have grapes for snack in a few minutes and call it a day.  Husband is out of town on business until Thursday so should be good for the diet.  Daughert and granddaughter should be home anytime.

It's good to report a good day.  Food was kind of high in calorie, but I think cal count was ok.  I am going to work on eating when I am hungry now because I'm bored or because it's "time" to eat according to the clock!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/07/2017:
2mi is excellent for muscles and bones and everything! Nice! Still I do not walk as much as i'd like...but now i can also do 2mi and feel good after! Walking is so healthy & wonderful when it's done outside and not on a treadmill..

Good idea to save your cals for the lunch. I sometimes try to sleep in late also on days where i don't want to be eating all morning (on weekend). It works well if i take a sleeping pill, sometimes it doesn't work. lol...

Sometimes we have a high cal day...but if we are moderate about having those days, it all works out!!

It's been two months since I've posted!  I have been up to no good while I've been away!  I have not exercised much and I have gone back to bad eating habits.  I have a plan of attack, though.  I have been eating when I am not even hungry so I am am going to work on getting hungry before I eat.  I remember when I have been healthyier before that is what I did.

A lot has changed since I last posted.  Daughter has moved back in with us along with granddaugher.  Granddaugher is with us at least 4 nights a week.  Without going into details, and you can see from my last post this was not totally unexpected.  It will work out in the end, but I suspect that it will take a long time to even out and smooth over.  Son in Law is unemployed at the moment, althouth he has had some good interviews and at least one second interview in the last two weeks.  Daughter is applying to the local police force.  She has several friends and training clients (she is the personal training director at a swank local gym currently)  who are on the PD and they had been talking to her about applying for a long time.  She decided to make the break with husband and apply to the PD.  Her application process is done, now they need to do her background check and she needs to take a polygraph test and then she should find out if she is accepted or not.  The police academy is local and highly respected as a training facility.  Although we are not thrilled, we understand her motivation.  The pay is good (believe it or not), the benefits are good and they pay for college courses - which she is interested in taking advantage of.  Once she graduates from the academy she must be on patrol for minimum of 2 years and then she is free to apply for any job that is available.  She is interested in becoming the trainer for the police personnel who need help with fitness and nutrition.  The person who holds that job currently is probably going to retire in 3-4 years.  No there is hope.

Anyway - I have a lot of motivation to get fit and lose some pounds!  I have some vacation/trips coming up this Spring and Summer and a class reunion (45th) in August.

grannyannie on 03/06/2017:
Hope everything works out well for your daughter's family (and yours). I have not been good either. Too indulgent on holidays. My biggest downfall is beer.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/06/2017:
A big welcome back to DD since you were here last :)

You must be home more & I can understand it being very stressful with extra people (your daughter) in the house now...that could def skew your routine...you must remember to care even MORE about YOU...that's what i'm starting to think now as I am responding to your entry here..

Yeah, it seems police pays well all over the country it's decent. Same in NYC. Starts low but the increase is really nice after 5 years on force. Good luck to her & keep us updated as I will reinstate my application process in the very EARLY fall and hope to enter come January '18 as my own application will max out after that & i'll be disqualified.

That's a great job she could have....and safe as a trainer at the PD. Cool & good luck to her...and your SIL on his interviews!

Thank you for the encouraging words. Life is nothing if not a series of adjustments. :-)

Eating is somewhat better - but far from where I need to be.  I walked 3 miles - on Monday but laid off today  -  other duties called.  The 3 miles was slow because was with the baby girl and husband and dogs, but it was nice.  I pushed the stroller.  We have had unusually warm weather here again but it's going to drop again by the end of the week.  Baby girl went back to school today.  It was so quiet around the house!

My former employer has offered me a job - they say it is part-time and the salary offer is fair, but I think it is going to require more time than I want to put in and I don't know if I want to get into all that again.  I like those guys and part of me wants to do it, but I think I will have to turn it down.  I want to pursue my contract enrollment job.  My friend in that business assured me I can make the salary I need to make by 4th quarter 2017 so we'll see.  Your all's comments on my last post about this helped.  There is one compelling reason to maybe go back to work, though.  Daughter's home situation may change at some point (maybe soon) and I would like to have extra $$ to share with her until she could get on her feet completely.  I know I shouldn't consider this, but it is a concern.

Tomorrow either walk or elliptical trainer again.  Must eat good stuff.

grannyannie on 01/03/2017:
Sounds like a nice walk, even if slow. Nice to help out daughter. They are always our babies, aren't they?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/04/2017:
Same here with the unusually warm weather here too...that's why i'm heading outside at lunch to do an errand!

as you do not have to say YES to every offer.

Maria7 on 01/05/2017:
Good to see you on here likewise. Glad you are doing well.

Well, here I am again.......I posted a cute New Years video on the DD FB page if you care to check it out - it's a parody of an Adele song.

This has been the worst holiday eating season for me in about 7 years!  I broke the bad choice streak this morning when  got on the elliptical trainer and did 18 minutes at power 6 / 55-62 RMPs an 1.1 miles.  Must make this a habit!

Happy New Year!

grannyannie on 01/01/2017:
I've been bad as well. Well done doing the elliptical. I like to do intervals on that and it feels like a very productive workout.

hollybelle on 01/03/2017:
Yes, interals are killer. I did manual program for a start - it was just about like intervals. Let's get back to work!

Maria7 on 01/01/2017:
Good on the elliptical!

hollybelle on 01/03/2017:
Hi there, Maria! So good to see you on here! I will check out your diary tonight. Thank you for your comment!

Horn_of_plenty on 01/02/2017:
I totally forgot about our FB DD page! Is it very active? Maybe I will follow it. I wonder if I am still in it. Taking a look later :)

Your bad streak is over and so is the holiday season. Now it's winter and you can work on getting yourself back on track.

Are you still doing the same work with the hospital i think it was?

hollybelle on 01/03/2017:
No, he FB page isn't very active so that's why I mentioned my post on there. YES I am motivated to get back on track. I am not working at all now. I did some contract benefits enrollment work in November but nothing since then, although I am going to post about this in diary today - the agency I used to work for has offered me a job with them, again. I don't think I am going to accept. I'll comment more about this on my diary.

Oh my gosh - how did I ever have time to work?  Between cleaning house, scheduling and meeting repair guys, getting ready for Christmas and working a little here and there I have been busy.  Notice not much exercise in there. Weather is poor so no outdoors activities for days.  I may have to breakdown and go to a gym????

Anyway - no more work days scheduled for now.  I have an appointment to speak to my old employer at the insurance agency Thursday - they think they want me to come back to work for them, but I am lukewarm about it.  I don't want to work too many hours and although they said on the phone "you can call your own shots", etc.  I don't know that it would work or if I want to do that.

I am keeping baby girl Mon-Thurs beginning the 19th through Jan 3 - so that will keep me busy.  I am planning on taking her over to my friend's house a couple of days to play with her grandkids of various ages - that she is keeping for the school break.  Should be interesting.

I will post more often and am off to look at your all's posts.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 12/06/2016:
OMG – there’s always a thousand things to be done INSTEAD of work! haha…And anyways, this is the holiday season especially for folks celebrating Christmas. Less for me as I don’t celebrate and we don’t even always get together at my parent’s house anymore for Chanukah. It’s not a big holiday for us – especially when not a kid and presents aren’t given really…All our bdays (mine, sister, and parents) are in the fall so we just gave presents!

If you aren’t feeling that the old employer is going to work out, I’d say DEFINITELY GO WITH YOUR GUT. Sometimes you know, and there’s NO NEED to even try it out. You remember how you felt while you were there - so figure it will be much of the similar unless the employees changed a bit…

Your decision whether to go back reminds me of me deciding whether or not to go on a 3rd date with this dude. First date was decent, but I wasn’t attracted like I felt I should be. 2nd date went rather strangely especially towards the end of the date. And we kinda called it out & both of us saying we didn’t think it could work. But he was kind enough to ask me recently (after around 1 month), if another date I’d be into…and honestly I don’t think so because I was never attracted to this guy in all the times I’d used to see him at an old gym I went to while still living with my parents. It’s just not meant to be – I don’t think a 3rd date would change my gut feelings that I have now. What do you suggest? Do you have any advice on this matter?

That’s nice you are watching the babygirl….are the parents going away for a vacation? Where?

as always, i am looking forward to your future posts and hearing from you more often if that's in your plans!

innerpeace on 12/06/2016:
I know right? How does anyone have time to work? I would much rather be at home deciding on what needs done there, than be at work.

grannyannie on 12/06/2016:
I wonder how I had time to work as well! I know so many women who say they didn't want to retire because they'd be bored. They aren't saying it now - too busy enjoying retirement! Envy you having grandbaby for a visit.

Hey guys.  Sorry for the long absence.  I took on some part time work!  I love it, but I am not sure how busy I can stay with it.  I signed on as a benefits enroller with a voluntary/worksite benefits carrier.  It involves travel to various employers and meeting with their employees, explaining their benefits programs and helping them fill out paperwork.  There is more to it than that, but that's the gist of it.  I have worked 4 days so far.  It pays very well and I hope I can get enough work through them throughout the year that it will see me through to full retirement age!  I can accept or reject jobs as they are offered.

I haven't been keeping up with exercise and I have been doing so-so on food.  That will change (AGAIN) though.  I just have to establish my routine.  Having a harder time than I thought.

I cooked Thanksgiving dinner yesterday for family.  Husband's family is coming here for Christmas this year-same crew that comes on Memorial Day.  I bought a new Christmas tree (for baby girl - she LOVED it as in "Oh, it's SO Beautiful, Granny") and it's up, but only lights on it so far.  Going to decorate tomorrow and Sunday.

Ate left overs today.  Only one meal - will just snack for dinner later.

Horn_of_plenty on 11/26/2016:
I am so happy you have chosen to find work and were so successful in doing so! Congrats to you on your new job. Please keep us in the loop with how its going. What an interesting time of year for you to start working right around holiday time. That's great you say the job also pays well...always helps ;)

Yes, it surely does take time to change or make a new routine. Try to keep as much as you can the same i guess, and only change what needs to be right now for the job...and then you can make more changes as you see fit. That's at least the advice i'd give myself if i needed to make a big change...and it's the same advice i hope i remember when my changes come in the summer! :-D

How sweet you cooked Thanksgiving :-). I feel it's not an easy task & many people just can't take it on. Good for you! and i'm glad that the baby girl said she loves the tree. How special! :)

I hope you continue to have a wonderful holiday season. Pleasure to read your entry.

Donkey on 11/26/2016:
Routine is everything, I have found. Once I can establish a habit, I'm good to go. Of course, part of that might just be my personality too-- feeling obligated to meet the requirements of a routine, LOL.

The job sounds really good. Good for you!!

grannyannie on 11/27/2016:
Good luck on the new job! That's great. Well done on the exercise.

Hi everyone.  Sorry for the absences lately......laptop that I usually use to post and comment Is "broken".  It is about 6-7 years old and I don't know if it can be fixed.  My husband's laptop is also on the fritz.  I am using our desk top here at the house.  It is fine, but in the basement and I have to stop and come down here to use it.  It's not in my "routine" in other words.  Or basement is finished and everything, but I just don't come downstairs every day.  I will use desk top until I fix or replace the laptop.  I have been thinking about getting a tablet instead of a laptop since I only use laptop to surf and use the desk top for any business.  Any opinions on that?

I have done OK on food.  Maintaining right now is the name of the story.  We walked on Saturday and Sunday.  Sunday we went to the Nature Conservatory - Raven Run.  I have posted about it before.  We walked/hiked around 3 miles.  There was a lot of climbing, though.

Today I am going to WASH at least ONE of the dogs - probably the biggest one that smells the worst - the Labby Boy.  That will be enough exercise for me today.  If I still have energy and time I will wash the collie girl.  She needs lots of brushing so may brush today and wash tomorrow.

We are having grill chicken tonight, corn on the cob, salad and roasted potatoes.

I applied for a PT job on Saturday, on line.  It is for something very related to some of my experience.  It is a long shot, but we'll see.

I am looking for a Christmas tree (fake) to put up this year.  I haven't done it in many years because no one cared about it but me and it was too much trouble when I was working.  But I like it and think I'd like to have one again.  Need to find a realistic one for a good price.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/07/2016:
Yeah what is it with laptops / computers / iphones! they just don't last forever! and seems they really die out within 4 years or don't withstand the changes in technology! I had the weirdest dreams this weekend about technology actually!

I'm maintaining too...feels good. Have had only small ups which have made it easier to fall back down :) I cannot crash diet & do not really want to face any large weight struggles for many months & years to come. Maintenance is wonderful once I have really started to hack it! still sometimes a struggle, but much less of one.

Dinner sounds tasty & healthy....

have a great day - when the tree is up & decorated, feel free to show us.!!! love photos. & experiencing life thru friends' photos and experiences!

Yesterday was a very busy day and I was happy.  First was the professional association event that I worked very hard on.  Turnout was good and everyone was pleased.  The meeting was about 40 minutes away in Frankfort, KY (our state capitol)  Then I had lunch with my friend who lives in Frankfort - she is the one who house / dog sat for us while we were out of town.  We went to a little home-cooking place and had vegetable plates.  It was really pretty good.  I had green beans, cauliflower and cheese, lima beans and sweet potatoes.  It was all good except the sweet potatoes.  They also had HOMEMADE pie.  I had a piece of coconut cream pie.  It was good (not as good as mine or my dad's, but good).  I ate very light dinner after that....apple and peanut butter.  After I got home my friend came over and we made 250 presentation packets for her job.  She had asked me to help her because she has a big presentation next week and will be out of town beginning today and didn't know if she would be able to get them done. I have more counter space than she does so we did it here.  Easy but big job.

Husband is out of town until 5:30 tomorrow.  I will have the baby girl tomorrow.  Her school is out.

Blew leaves into submission front and back again this morning.  That is enough exercise for me today.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/04/2016:

I'm Baaaaaaaccccckkkkkk.......

Trip to Florida was great except we had an overnight delay on the flight home!  Only the 3rd time that has ever happened to me in my life. Delta put us up in a hotel for the night and we flew out the next morning.  Home 24 hours later than expected.

Walked almost 5 miles almost every day.  Walking on the beach was a lot harder than usual walking on sidewalk, etc.  Ate OK while in Florida. No great meals.  Have kind of blown it on candy the last two days while at home, though.  The weather was great and the beach was most beautiful - sugar white sand and blue green water (sand is quartz actually).  We didn't do all that much besides read and walk.  Took drives to a couple of state parks and the National Seashore Preserve.  Gorgeous!  Pictures really don't do it justice.  Had forgotten how pretty it is.

Handed out candy to trick or treaters last night.  Baby girl was very cute in her Tea Pot costume.  She was pretty excited about it all.  This is the first year she has understood much of what was going on.  She wanted to "share" her candy with everyone - well, that and eat it all herself.  At one point she had a different sucker in each hand!  She managed to eat some spaghetti and meatballs, too, though.  We had about 100 trick or treaters not as many as in the past, but a lot.  I still had candy left over.  I gave our the snickers, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers, Twix minis.

Worked hard out in the yard yesterday and today-LEAVES.  We have lots of BIG TREES front and back.   Going to wash dogs tomorrow while it is still so unseasonably warm and they can dry outside. Will do that in the afternoon as I have a meeting in Frankfort tomorrow morning for professional association.

The yard work and dog washing will be my exercise through tomorrow as all of that is very physical.  After that I'll get back to walking.

Will try catching up on everyone's posts.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/02/2016:
Welcome back HollyB!....write more also in a lil bit!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/02/2016:
What was the reason for the overnight delay....that could really stink especially if you plan to work or get paid the next day!!!!!!!! but in general, it can be bad. it's good they paid to have you stay in a hotel...

that's great walking and yes i know from experience that walking on beach is another whole feel & challenge!!

omg! i haven't seen any baby girl tea pots! cuteness...do you have a photo of that???? ????

all babies are so cute when dressed up for Halloween!

hollybelle on 11/03/2016:
Rosalie's pic as a Tea Pot is on my FB page. She didn't want to have her pic taken without her Mommy, who was dressed as "Dancing Dead" character (ballroom dance dress and painted face). The delay was for a mechanical problem for which they could not locate a part. It was the weekend, but it would have been bad for people who had to go to work. Also - I'm sure lots of plans were messed up. Our dog/house sitter had already gone home and lives about 40 minutes away but a neighbor was able to come and let our dogs in and out until we got home.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 11/04/2016:
see...i hadn't even thought about how it is a pure inconvenience to everyone those delays! sorry you had to deal with all that. glad you are ok though. i'll have to take a look at your fb page later as i forgot to check it out last night !
