Here I am again. Long time - no post!

Missed you guys.

I am doing OK. Just lots going on. School started again and daughter got schedule straightened out.

On the eating and exercise fronts - I am doing OK "holding my own". I am looking forward to Fall and coolet weather when I will feel more like walking outside, etc.

I did some rough calculations on how many calories I am taking in per day and I believe it is about 2200-2500 per day. This is evidently enough to maintain my current weight which I believe is around 152. I STILL want to lose 10 lbs. It's OK with me if I do it between 9/1/07 and 9/1/08. Based on last years experience I seem to do well in the Fall and Winter and Spring and Summer. Maybe it will be that way again this year.

Husband hasn't found a job yet. Could use your prayers on this issue!

Will check out everyone's diaries very soon. Wishing you all motivation and success!

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

jmarie60 on 08/16/2007:
Welcome back! Best of luck with that last 10 lbs. I'll be sending employment vibes your way for your husband!

Sorry about the hubby not finding a job yet, i will pray for you guys. Good luck on the 10lbs! I know you can do it! :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/18/2007:
lol, you said that you tend to so well in the fall and winter and spring and summer. i guess that means that you are good at eating and diet year-round? that's a great way to look at it.

wow, school started early for your daughter. around here, we have 3 weeks left till school.

good luck to your husband, i can understand the frustrations of looking for a job, for sure!

Good morning! Finally am getting to post a bit.

Birthday party went well - but we had too much cake left over. Have been enjoying that - but must stop now. It's all gone - Ha-ha. Seriously - I helped myself to cake and some hersey kisses full knowing what I was doing. I am over it now. Don't think too much damage was done becaus over all calories were still fairly "reasonable". It's so hot here, though, I haven't felt like walking outside. I will get on Eliptical Trainer tonight - for at least 30 minutes. That will help. It's funny -even though I had cake and chocolate - I wasn't "out of control". It wasn't "mindless eating" at all. I know I will stop and get back on healthier track. Like I said I'm now over it so I can go on.

Summer is good because of all the wonderful vegetables and fruits there are to eat. I am so happy with just vegetables for dinner and to snack on. The tomatoes are so good right now. We have a farmer's market close to our house on Sundays and I have been getting wonderful "heirloom" tomatoes. They are so unusual and tasty. One vendor has over 100 varieties of heirlooms that he grows. They take getting used to because they aren't traditional looking. Some are purpleish and some are really odd shapes and kind of ugly but if you try them you will not want regular ones as often.

Anyway - hope all of you have been doing well. I've been checking on your diaries even though not leaving many messages. I will get around to that soon. In the meantime - Here's wishing you all blessings in the form of motivation, inspiration and personal strength to take care of yourself (me - too!!).

starfish on 08/07/2007:
hey! Great job on the eating sweets but not going overboard :) I really need to eat more fruits and vegetables too!

ad_vitam on 08/07/2007:
Hi! I am big fan of tomatoes in season as well. All the veggies are so flavourful in season, really easy to eat light and healthy. I guess we picked up the right time to slim down:) Good luck with your goals!

mcwoo40 on 08/07/2007:
Hi,they say everything is fine as long as it is in moderation.I don't know when to stop that is my problem!!I have started to buy tomatoes on the vine they seem to have more taste to them.I love the juicy peaches this time of year, the juice dripping down your chin. The weather is improving here in England, the passenger side window of my car has been fixed yesterday, it would'nt go down, and i looked like i had been on the spit roast when i stepped out of the car but no lbs lost though through sweating!!Keep in touch,Julie

greengirl on 08/07/2007:
Hey Hollybelle, time to ditch the birthday cake now !!! Only kidding LOL :o) I am going through a tomato phase too at the moment but with me it is cherry tomatoes!! I eat them like they are going out of fashion!!Good luck with getting back on your healthier track :o)

gerri on 08/07/2007:
yaaaaaaa moderation really is the key .. thunmbs up on being able to control the amounts of the good(mmmmm)/bad foods .. i'm a dill pickle fan .. good i can eat them by the jar full ... im sure tomatoes and peaches are better for me tho...hehehe

fattyfatty2by4 on 08/08/2007:
Thanks for the welcome! Parties have always been so hard for me in the past. That's great to see you were not "out of control". Great job!

harleygirl79 on 08/09/2007:
Yes, you definately want to stay away from those empty calories, but I know how you feel, you see it, you want it. I am on a fruit kick lately. I am craving pineapple and nectarines and bananas. I made a small fruit salad with that the other day. It was yummy and cool. Take care and no more cake LOL

It's me again. Doing OK. It's Friday and daughter's birthday party is tomorrow night - expecting about 30-35 kids. Having it in the boyfriend's neighborhood clubhouse. Ours is not set up quite as nice as theirs. Food and music 8 p.m. to Midnight. That's about it. Having Cake and Ice Cream. I am making coconut cakes. Having sub sandwiches and fruit, chips and dip and some other snack type things. Daughter has made all the music CDs with suggestions from a couple of people. There are kids coming from out of town that she met at the Governor's School Program she went to this Summer.

I have continued to exercise almost daily. I walked 3 miles on Wednesday night with husband, daughter and dog. Last night I spend on my knees - not in prayer - although I NEED to do MORE of that - for sure. Daughter vaccumed the hard wood floors for me and I SCRUBBED them and waxed them. They look so good now. That was alot of exercise, really. We had angel hair pasta and vodka sauce for dinner, with salad and bread.

Hope I don't munch too much at the birthday party. I plan on having some of the cake, though. It is SO good. If you like coconut-that is.

Many blessings to you!

have a big fruit salad...you can buy them in the supermarket pre-made! you can have soooo much fruit compared to the amount of cake you can have for the same calories. lately, this is what i've been telling myself! I haven't had much starch/bread, besides potatoes one night, since Sunday. I'm eating a lot of fruits....but could have been worse if i ate a lot of high cal food!

Greetings dear DD friends! It has been a while since I posted here. Much is happening.

First of all my husband has left his job - kind of under mutual agreement with his employer of 19 years. This has been very tramatic for us all - but especially him.

Daughter has begun driving, planning for the 16th Birthday party this coming Saturday and catching up with old friends, helping with husband's job search and many more things which I won't name here - not the least of which involve some teenage issues....these are the things that have been occupying my time of late.

But......not to worry - I have been staying strong on the nutrition and exercise front through it all. AND.......if I can do it - YOU can too. I am making it a point to exercise - husband likes to walk, too - now we have some time for it. And I have been eating good foods.

The weather is VERY humid here as it is August, after all.

I will catch up on your diaries very soon. I miss each and every one of you and look forward to meeting new posters.

Wishing you all many blessings. Until next time - Holly

Well, It's me again. yesterday was OK. I was really sturggling with the medication I am taking - I got a phone call back from the Nurse Practitioner who prescribed it and she told me it was OK to cut down on it like I was doing and to continue to do so and I should NEVER take it again. I say - NO PROBLEM THERE - I SUE won't.

Daughter's 16th birthday was calm. The GPs came and we went to dinner. I didn't overeat at all because the food was terrible. Ate at Tony Romas-daughter's choice. She loved her ribs (Those of you who have been on here with me awhile know what a milestone that is for her)! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich because wasn't sure how much I could enjoy anything due to strange drug reaction, etc. It wasn't even etible! I wound up going home and eating two pieces of toast with blackberry jam and a big glass of milk. Didn't want to make a big deal of it as everyone else liked their food OK. I didn't want daughter to feel bad about restaurant choice, either!

Anyway will have lunch with a friend today - Italian Special. We'll see how that goes. I want to get out and walk tonight when it cools off a little. We had bad thunder storms here last night. Neighbor's tree fell in our driveway and missed one of the cars. Whew. Many trees down on the street. Supposed to storm more today and then cool off for weekend. I hope so!

Keep posting everyone. I am getting so much from your diaries. I hope to post menus tomorrow. I have promised so many times to do that, though-so I don't promise. I like to see what others eat. And I stay on track better when I write it down. Keeps me honest. But I have to make sure I don't obsess! Which I certainly can do!

Reviewed a few of my VERY earlier diary entries. Will do more later. It appears one of my goals was to "live the healthy life God intended for me" and I concluded that included taking better care of myself. I haven't lost sight of it - as a matter of fact I am doing much better in a lot of ways than this time last year - but I need to keep it more in the forefront.

Have a Bless Day, everyone! Holly

hi Holly. this is an entry that demonstrates your motivation to be successful and positive throughout your life. If you can look back at your own life, and see you are doing better a year later, that takes patience and the desire to become a better person in society.

Hey Holly!

Glad your daughter had a nice birthday. I've only eaten at a Tony Roma's once in my life and loved the ribs. However, I didnt know a thing about ribs back then and have found a much better place to enjoy good BBQ.

Anyway, I hope all is well with you and yours. Hope to see you posting again in the near future!

Hello all. It's a good day here in La-La Land - I will be so glad to be off this medication! It's better since I am cutting down the dose, but LORDY!!!

Anyway - today is daughter's 16th Birthday! The Grandparents are coming (Paternal) and we are going out to eat. The BIG PARTY is on August 4th.

Last night it was just daughter and I for dinner and we had some errands to run - returns and stuff to 3 places so we decided to eat at the local "home-cooking" resturant in our neighborhood. It was incredible. This place features seasonal vegetables and we just got vegetable plates. I had: Kale, Fresh Cut Corn off the Cob, fried green tomatoes and green beans. It was all wonderful! I topped it off with a BIG splurge - a large piece of butterscotch pie! Sorry I'd like to report I passed it up, I have SO MANY times in the last year, but I caved. It's kind of funny because I ate, I enjoyed it so much, I don't feel guilty at all BUT I also don't feel like I will go back to unhealthy eating habits just because I had the pie. I realize that sometimes I actually feel that way when I eat something that is not all that healthy. I wrote something on someone else's diary a minute ago that really hit me. It's one of those obviious things - that we all know when we are "in the zone" but we forget for some reason - chemical or otherwise.....that is - it's not about the numbers - don't concentrate on the numbers. Eat heathy choices, exercise consistently and the numbers will take care of themselves. They REALLY will!!! This is a reminder for me right here.

I have been thinking of going back and reviewing some of my old posts and seeing how I have evolved. It's been about a year since I started on here. I think I will do that soon. More to take stock and remind myself of things like this "not about the numbers" thing.

Have a Blessed Day - Holly

(-: Splurges are a must... You are going to be eating healthy the rest of your life... it isn't a fad but a new lifestyle so sometimes you just have to "cave" and have that pie !!! Your veggies sound soooooooooooooooooo good... :-)

you had veggies ... no calories in veggies ... thne you had something that you were craving .. we all have to give into cravings at times its what happens before (like sticking to healthy eating for days and days) and after ( not letting it ruin the good habits you made in your life style) once in a while it actually helps us ... treats are what makes the tough times bearable .. and you r right its not just the numbers .. i feel great again soon i will look great again .. thanks ... high five

Good morning! I checked in with some of your diaries yesterday and was glad to see your posts, but didn't have time to post anything of my own. So here goes - quickly....

Dance competition went very well. Was able to exercise ALOT the WHOLE time there. Walked and walked and walked - all uphill mostly! Food was OK. Ate what I wanted at meals - within reason of course - and didn't really eat in between. The place we were - Gatlinburg, TN is (not to be unkind) like "hillbilly heaven" and there was NOT much fruit or vegetables to be had. I thought there would be home-cooking type places - but NO.....so I was craving fruits and vegetables badly yesterday.

As I said last post - poison ivy and flea bites (from neightbor cat) required a docotor visit. I have had to take steroid type drugs which just made me completely WILD. Really took a toll. Couldn't sleep on the trip and really feeling ragged out. I am almost done with them. They have worked, though and skin is doing OK - but what a price.

This week goal is to keep up exercise and good eating. I am still craving vegetables in particular so plan to load up with lots, although I have a coupon for free pasta from Fazoli's for lunch.

I will post more tomorrow. In the meantime have a blessed day and keep us posted on YOUR progress! With Love, Holly

I know what you mean about craving fruit. My daughter and I had this conversation the other day. I want pineapple and nectarines. I bought some nice cantalope and honeydew the other day for my husband and he ate them up. I think it's the weather being warm, that makes us crave this. Not so bad.

jon'smom on 07/17/2007:
Glad the steroid drugs are working. Enjoy your fruits and vegetables.

I havent had enough veggies last week either but hopefully made up for it with plenty of fruit!! I didnt drink enough water either. I need my routine to do well!! Sounds like you have been busy. Greetings! Just a quick note before I leave town for the Dance Competition. It has been crazy around my house for a few days. Daughter has had a FULL rehearsal schedule and has been trying to catch up on sleep and nurse a sore knee. The dog sitter decided to take a vacation instead of dog sit for us so I had to find another one on short notice. Older Brother and Sister of one of the other dance girls are coming and staying at our house and sharing the duty. I am thrilled and hope to be able to use them in the future, too. More complications - I have poison ivy! Have to go to the doc today. I always use this stuff called Tecnu to wash with anytime there is a possibility I have been exposed, but couldn't find it in the house after picking blackberries last week. Thought I would be OK if I didn't go get some that night and waited until the next day - guess it didn't work. Misery! It's only on both my wrists at this point and I have had it MUCH worse. Also - took care of neighbor's pets while they were gone and evidently their cats had fleas and I have been bitten over 35 times! Like I said - it's been crazy!

On the food and exercise front - exercise has been limited to my daily ab work! I have been doing very well on food, though. I haven't overeaten at all. I would say have been 1400 calories all days since last post - or under. I just haven't had any time to exercise.

Will post more when I return. In the meantime - eat well, yourselves and take care! Wishing you blessings! Holly

wowsers! you've been under some pressure, in a good way...except for the poison ivy part! you'll make it though! that's exciting that your daughter has another performance so soon! :) Lucky you to be able to see it! sorry exercise has not been it's best, but you have kept up doing lots of things, keeping your mind busy. when you do get back to exercising more, your body will be extra ready.

your entry today in my journal made me smile! Thank you for the kind, motivating, strong words! I couldn't have asked for something more generous and well written! :)

Greetings Friends! Just a REALLY quick note to say hi and get down on paper how things are going in my world.

Picked up Daughter yesterday about 9:30 a.m. She looked wonderful. We already knew that because her picture was on the front page of the Arts section of the Saturday newpaper-a shot taken the day before in rehearsals. She lost a little weight, but all the dancers did. They worked so hard for 3 weeks. So count another prayer ANSWERED in a very positive way!

Food - well - yesterday was weird for food. Did fine at Breakfast and lunch but went out to eat with other parents and kids and overdid it a bit. Then daughter wanted to go to IHOP this morning/afternoon when she woke up. I joined right in and had pancakes and the works. I havaen't been hungry at all the whole rest of the day, though and it's about 9:00 pm now - so I guess that's some consolation. I am back on the "wagon" now though. I don't feel tempted to KEEP ON eating at all.

I must exercise more this week. We leave for TN for National dance competiton on Wednesday afternoon and will be back LATE Sunday night.

Hang in there all you DD'ers! Thanks for prayers, comments and continued efforts on your own behalf. Keeps me motivated. Love to all - Holly

Yesterday was OK. I stayed good on calories. Probably around 1035-1135. Wasn't that hungry. I started keeping track of food again.

Breakfast: Granola Bar and Iced Coffee

Lunch: 1/2 Salmon Croquette/Cup of Cream of Brocolli Soup/Carrot Salad

Dinner: Baked Chicken/Grapes/sm amt Cheese Grits/WW French Bread with Smart Squeeze (if you haven't tried the Smart Squeeze - DO IT today! It's great. I love margarine or butter and hate substitutes, but this one is really good. 0 Fat and only 5 cals per Serving.

Well, we pick up daughter tomorrow from the Summer Program. I am nervous. I will be so glad to see her, but am not sure what to expect. I hope she hasn't lost too much weight. I know that sounds funny to us on this site. Some of you may not know - my daughter is recovering from an eating disorder. She is two years + into recovery but this is the first time she has been away from home on her own. I expect she will have lost SOME weight, because it's a dance program she has been in and they work VERY hard, but I just hope not too much! SIGH. We all have our struggles and she has hers. Those of you who pray - please pray about this for me and her.....I should have asked for prayer sooner!

Well, want to get house in order tonight for daughter's return. In the meantime you all keep the good times rolling. Love, Holly

let us know how it goes picking up your daughter! I'm sure you can't wait to see her perform!! :) That's ALWAYS a proud moment. my parents routinely sent me to music camps and came up for many performances!

i'll have to research smart squeeze...i've actually NEVER heard of it...but then again, i'm not the knowledgable on cheese/milk products. haha.

your foods sound good...mmmm, what's in the carrot salad??? I'd love that. good incorporation of fruits/veggies.
