No exercise last night!  Was going to Zumba - fully intended to go, but didn't do it.  The time just passed right on by.  Didn't do the Elliptical at all, either and no weights.  I'll exercise this weekend.  It is so hot and humid I'm sure there won't be any biking tonight - I have to go to a work function, anyway.  But tomorrow a.m. I might ride around 7:30 or 8:00 while it's still fairly cool. 

I am volunteering at the Animal Shelter from 12:30-4:00.  They have a new facility and I am going to introduce pets to potential new owners or foster parents. 

Sunday our friends are supposed to come over for dinner.  I am not sure what to make, but I'll think of something.

Ready for it to be Fall - this summer weather is too much for me.  I know that sounds wimpy to the folks in the deep south, but, I can't help it.  I can't get my mind switched over to indoor exercise mode!

We spent the morning at the playground and even though we were sunscreened and I had on my floppy hat, the sun still saps your energy for sure. I won't complain about our heat here, we're still cool compared to your area. Have fun volunteering at the animal shelter, what a great thing to do on the weekend!

Early morning bike ride sounds like a good idea. Good for you volunteering at the shelter! If you want to cool off come over to Scotland. We have about 60 for high temp and lots of nice drizzle. :-D

I rode only 10 miles last night due to the heat. I have never sweated at all - ever - and I was drenched sitting on my bike on my front porch waiting for my program to find its GPS location!! I hope you are successful at the animal shelter today. I cry when I see those commercials for pet adoption. I wish I could take them all home with me! Since it is so hot, why don't you think along the lines of big cool salads with either chicken or shrimp but to the greens have fresh cucumber and tomatoes, and my favorite is to cut fresh strawberries into it with candied cayenned pecans. I also like to stuff an avacado or tomato with shrimp or crab salad. A nice cool dessert would be lowfat icecream or frozen yoghurt with fresh fruit on top. Have a great weekend!

You're such a good person volunteering at the shelters!! I myself can't do it. I love them so much and it makes me so sad they don't have a home. I can't even watch a movie if I know an animal is going to get killed!! And forget about those commercials...OMG...the one with Sarah McLachclan singing...oh boy!!

And yes, I do live in San Diego. I thought of a couple things you may like to do and being you are a big bike person, maybe take a bike ride around Mission Bay or take the ferry over to Coronado Island and rent bikes there. It's fun to ride around Coronado on a bike. And yes, take a ride (in the car) up the coast. You will love it! You could go on your bike..alot of people do but...so much traffic and a bit scary. If you like hiking I recommend hiking at Torrey Pines. And I find Old Town pretty interesting. Do you like wine? Temecula is a fun place to go. From downtown it would take you about an hour. Enjoy!!!

Thanks, everyone, for the encouraging comments!  I appreciate it.  I think, and those that have known me for awhile probably have noticed, I have a better attitude than I have had in a long, long time.  I really believe I can stay healthy, live a strong productive life.  I am "only" 58 years oldl!  Hey, the hormones have really helped. 

Well, last night I only rode 7 miles.  We (friend and I) took off with a destination in mind and I rode ahead to a particular crossing point we had pre-discussed and paused to see if she was far behind.  I waited and waited, but "no dice".  I got fearful her bike had broken down so I back-tracked a little and nothing.  Then I couldn't understand how I had missed her so I rode ahead and still didn't see her anywhere ahead either.  She didn't have her phone with her.  We are going to get her a pack to keep it in from now on!  I was so close to home and my legs were tired so I headed home, and she still wasn't there, either.  So I waited and she finally showed up - she had misunderstood where to cross and had crossed another place on the same road and we totally didn't cross paths!  We agreed I will not be "mother hen" next time and each of will proceed.  I just feel so protective, since I got her into this in the first place and SO want her to continue.

ANYWAY - no riding tonight or for the next SEVERAL days (as in a WEEK) - probably-too hot. I will be in bicycle withdrawal!   I hope I have enough energy for Zumba.  My legs do feel more rested after such a short ride last night.  I think that's about 82 miles in 4 days - only avg 20 miles per day, but I usually have a rest day in between or an easy riding day, at least, and I have ridden hard/fast all 4 days. 

Remember the OTHER friend that rode bike with me a couple of weeks ago?  She called me last night and she has taken a $4,000 bicycle home "on approval" until Saturday.  I don't know if she will purchase it, but I am going by this afternoon just to see it.  She broke her hand several years ago and cannot shift the gears on Shimano 105 set up - so they showed her an electronic bike.  She said going up a hill on this thing was like riding on flat road.  I can't imagine.  I wonder if it's still a good workout?  I have to say that I am already ready to upgrade my bike.  I have had it less than a year, but I would like a couple of diff things on the next one.  We'll see.  I certainly don't want to pay $4k for one, though!

Just getting caught up on your entries. I would say you've had a wonderful attitude for quite a while now and you are a role model for where I want to be in 18 years. I feel healthier now than I've ever been and want to stay that way! Have you been doing measurements? I'm sure you are way more toned now than when you began riding. Have a good one and stay cool!

Well done on all the biking. I couldn't do it if it was too hot either. $4K for a bike! I'd love to see that and go for a test ride. I was hoping to getting in more bike rides while on our trip but as it was we just did the long trail ride and that was it for bikes.

I can relate to your bike withdrawals. I have the same withdrawals with hiking each summer. I've tried hiking in the summertime and it always leads to heat exhaustion and migraines.

Nutella is a potential trigger food for me. In the past, I ate as much as I wanted. Now, I measure out a half serving for this treat and it is more than plenty. I've actually heard that Nutella sold here in the USA is crap compared to the Nutella they sell in Europe, so Im glad I dont have easy access to the good stuff! (: Also, I actually ran across a recipe for homemade/clean eating Nutella. Im too afraid to try it since I fear I wont like it as much as the dirty store bought kind, lol.

As for the stuff I dont sell this weekend, it will either get donated or thrown out over the next few weeks. I went through some of it today while waiting for customers (see my update!) and found stuff to purge right then. Good idea on just giving it away. I may resort to that on Saturday,lol!

Hey girl!! Sorry I didn't get to any entries yesterday, but I'm back today. I didn't ride last night because of the dental procedure, but hubby wants to try again tonight even though it is only 98 degrees today! I have a bottom of the line Trek mountain bike but I really like it. Monday night was the first time for a sore bottom so I think I need a new padded skirt! I love your positive attitude and you have been my role model and encouragement since I started here at DD!! After reading your posts I went out and bought that bike and it has changed my attitude towards my health journey. As you can tell, I don't like formal exercise, but the biking has been enjoyable. And at 51 I too feel healthier than ever! Even when I was lighter in weight, I had no muscle or good eating habits. Don't get me wrong, I ate "good" but it wasn't healthy!! I cooked like Paula Deen and was proud of it!! hahaaha In the long run, I'm much happier now. Stay cool and sneak in a few shorter rides during this heat wave!!! Have a great week!

I have posted an entry twice and it's mysteriously disappeared!  I'll post later!  I am tired of repeating myself for now!!  LOL!!   


OK - here goes again.  Last night rode 18.5 miles and lots of hills.  It was perfect weather - which is going to end tonight.  We are going up to high 90's (as in 98) tomorrow and 101 on Fri/Sat.  We haven't had a heat wave like this in don't know how long!  But for now it's great.  I hope I can get one more ride in.  I worked very hard and rode very fast.  My frieind was afraid she couldn't get 3 rides in this week since so hot later in the week so she decided to ride M-T-W this week and I'm proud of her.  I can tell she is improving - speed and strength.  We have decided that because our bikes and styles and abilities are different we will start out together, and touch base along the way at times, but we will basically "meet up back at the house" at the end of each ride.  I try to circle back and get more work in that way, and it's fine, but sometimes I just need to roll on down the road and she is fine with that.  I think she will feel less pressure to keep up.

Food has been good.  I've not been tempted by much and been eating good # of calories.  I can tell I have lost weight (little by very little) and I think when I feel like I am where I want to be I will weigh one time!  Id say that will be 7-10 lbs from now.  I am not goign to think about it because that drives me nuts - I am just going to concentrate on cycling or other exercise and decent food choices!

BBL's High and Tight is prolly the most painful workout for me. My bum muscles are always burning throughout the class. Im glad though, because my trainer hasnt worked all these muscles like this program has. :) Anyway, glad your posterior is feeling the effect of your bike rides!

Glad you got your ride in and your plan with your friend sounds great! Sometimes if I am in a very hard pushing mode, hubby will fall behind but that is OK, because he knows where we live!! Dentist visit wasn't good - hit a live nerve twice. I told them my lip was not dead at all, so they injected into the tooth to add more anesthesia and that was the first hit. The second came as the anesthesia wore off as they were setting the temporary crown. I definitely am not up to riding tonight as I have had a headache ever since and have company to cook for tonight. I like your philosophy toward the scale. I had a feeling you had not been weighing in because with the amount of miles you have packed in, you should have seen some change!! But what does it matter as long as you feel good and your clothes are starting to creep? Have a great day and enjoy the end of the coolness.

Rode 16 miles last night.  Total for Sunday and Monday = 56 miles.  Today is supposed to be a aberation in the weather for the better - 79 degrees and very very low humidity - should be a great ride.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a little hotter and THEN the rest of week is going to be brutal - 98+ degrees - maybe get up to 100 degrees!  AND humid!  So early in the year for this nonsense!  We need rain so badly - and so many parts of FL (for example) are getting too much!!  So, due to weather....probably will do Elliptical Trainer or Zumba Thursday and Friday.  I am working at the Animal Shelter on Saturday and hopefully I willl get another really long ride in Sunday.  I figure if I keep riding in this heat the good weather in the Fall will be a breeze.  

I am getting excited about Fall in general, but in particular, another reason is husband and I are planning a trip to CA in October - on my birthday, actually. We will start in San Diego and go north up the Pacific Coast Highway, probably as far as San Francisco.  I have been to California many times and spent a lot of time in the Costa Mesa/Newport Beach area back in "the day".  And husband and I visited friends (who have since moved) in Sacramento and we went to Yosemite Natl Park, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Nappa Valley on that trip.  But this is shaping up to be a good birthday!   

Busy day at work - more later.......

18.5 miles on the bike.  I rode up a lot of hills very aggressively.  I was planning on riding longer, but wanted to  come on home.  My legs are pretty tired.  I have ridden 74 miles in the last three days.  I'll probably get in over 100 miles this week.  I hope so, at least.  It's going  to be so hot I'm already planning to do Zumba on Thursday.

We are having that 98 - 100 degree stuff now!! Enjoy your day of low humidity. I even told hubby last night while we were riding that the air felt heavy, wet, hot and moist. But I really would have ridden longer if I didn't have to serve dinner. You might be able to keep riding during the high heat, just cut back on the miles. Maybe do an early morning ride and then a late evening ride. Are you on a racing bike or a mountain bike? I'm pushing 14 mph and these racers fly past me like I'm standing still. Hubby says they don't have to work as hard because their tires are thin and don't have as much surface area. I think I am just slow...Have a great day!!

I'm super excited for your birthday trip - PCH is THE best and most beautiful drive I've ever done. We've only done it from San Francisco and north midway through Oregon but one day I'd love to do the whole CA coast. I've stayed in Mendocino a couple of times now, as well as Arcata, so very pretty! When the boys have grown we have plans to do a motorcycle trip along that stretch :)

OK for any of you who MISSED yesterday's post - I rode 40 miles yesterday morning!  Hot hot hot ride!  I didn't mention that this was a lifetime max in one day for me.  With that I stand a chance to have a new LT weekly max as I begin the 'counting week' on Sunday.

Anyway, I hope to ride with friend tonight-probably at least 10-15 miles.  The humidity is supposed to abate and it's going to be only 85 today.  Tomorrow  only 79.  If tomorrow isn't too humid it should be a great day to ride.  We shall see!

Daughter made it back to Louisville, KY this morning around 1:45 a.m.  She should be rolling in here soon!

UPDATE:  16 miles tonight.  Woo Hoo!

P.S. RYC, I know myself pretty well at this point, and even though it's childish, I get resentful if I feel like my exercise schedule is too demanding on my time. I imposed this program on myself and so I'm going to see it through, but I know I'll do better with more flexibility in the future so I'm not taking time away from other things that are important to me. It's all about balance as always...

Good morning!!! No, I don't take anything for the Arthritis. I try so hard to be faithful taking vitamins and such but then I just get tired of it. I know I should. I hear it can help. The photo was taken at Mission Bay - DeAnza Cove. So, bay side and not ocean side. Their 20 mile hikes take all day. I think the most I've ever done is 14 or 15 miles, but I was much younger. I keep saying I should take my bike out but it's a bit dangerous to ride around here. Must get a bike rack!!! Have a great day!!!

Wow!! You are doing so well!! I thought you were going to "ease" back into it after your procedure, but I see that there was no need to ease!! I rode Friday night by myself, but the winds were too brisk for Saturday and Sunday. I feel like a whimp complaining about the winds and you knock out 40 miles. I'm glad your daughter is home. I get nervous with anyone travelling when there are storms in the Gulf or Atlantic. Have a great day!

Woo Hoo! Hot as the devil, too - even though I started early. Had to stop and cool off and hydrate 2 times, but got the whole 40-- even- in! Drinking recovery drink and going to eat my cabbage roll casserole.

Oh I forgot to respond about the "Ultimate Reset" yeah it was recommend not to workout the entire 21 days..Def was a deal breaker for me, in a way that sorta says that this program does not have the nutritional support to fuel working out so it left me a little iffy about it..

Thank goodness for Will..I always make the most out of my trips by heading out on the first flight going there and the last one to leave heading back.. That is why I use the Super Shuttle..25 bucks each way and I don't have to bother my friends :) I did see that pic but did you see this one?

Rode 13.5 miles last night.  Bigger ride planned for tomorrow.  Cleaning house today.  Made a wonderful casserole - kind of a deconstructed Cabbage Roll Casserole.  Used Amy's Tomato Bisque for the tomato sauce and it's GREAT.  I had seen many different recipes on line for this type of casserole and kind of used the ideas behind those to create my own recipe and I will definitely write it all down and make it again. I love cabbage rolls, but don't like how the meat is sometimes too dense, the cabbage sometimes gets "stringy" and this eliminates all of that and it's easy and less time consuming than making those darn rolls.  It is more of a Fall Winter dish than Summer, though.

Hi Holly, thanks for the comment on my photo. Cyprus has lots of connections with the Greek gods and Aphrodite rose from the waves there in her human form to take many lovers before falling for Adonis!! I will put another pic up of me in front of Aphrodite's rock where she rose from the sea. There are trees there covered in tokens from people looking for love and/or children. There are temples to Greek gods all over the island. I see you are still keeping up with your exercise regimen. Good for you !!!

It was very hot last night and friend and I only rode 10 miles.  She was feeling very overwhelmed.  I should have ridden more, but our routine is to have a recovery drink after and chat.....I will figure out something to get more miles in this weekend.  It is supposed to be cooler, but apparently more humid.  I will take the heat vs hudmidty....body cannot cool itself if it's humid!  

I am ready to roll, though! 

Food better, much better yesterday.  Today and all weekend will be the same!  No parties or coolouts, picnics or whatnot.  LOL!

13.5 miles this evening.  Nice weather.  Long ride planned to somewhere this weekend.

Sounds like a nice mellow weekend you'll be having. We have get togethers and parties coming up straight through until our vacation so I'm just trying to make good choices and enjoy it. I've also been leaning on Cooking Light for recipes, their stuff is almost always great and people don't notice that they are "light" recipes. Enjoy!

Ok - enough is enough!  Between family cookouts, church patio dinners and the minor medical procedure I had Monday - I have been off off off my whole routine!  Bike ride tonight - woo-hoo!  The sore spot on my hip is healing and I do not have to attend any event or function that has to do with food!

Yay!  More later......

Only 10 miles tonight.  I thought my friend would throw up.  I will ride more tomorrow, Sat and Sun.

Girl, I know how you feel!! I'm very easy to throw off track and the summer seems to have so many more food events and just things that interfere with bike riding! I was thinking about your impressive bike mileage as I watch mine slip away and the rain knock out entire days! Glad you are feeling well enough to ride. Last night's ride was short, but it was delightful as we slipped into 60% humidity!! But I was expected home at a certain time for dinner. At least I did 10 miles! Have a great day!

Hi everyone.  I am ready to get back to exercise soon!  I did weights  for about 20 minutes last night and that's it.  I have eaten too much for the last three days - but not by much.  I know that 3 days will not set me back very much, if at all, but I am not going to make much progress toward weight and fitness goals at this pace.  I cannot sweat and risk infection of the incision site, though.  I will be able to get back to work tomorrow!  So watch out!

Tonight is church ladies summer social on the patio of one of our members.  I am taking dessert!  I am going to make it something light probably angel food cake with strawberries and a dollop of ice cream.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

lol at your comment. I do wonder if they freshen up every five minutes. Some of the workouts are quite choppy - switching from a beach workout to a fitness studio, so its possible they did just that, lol.

Your choice for tonight's dessert is a good one.

Glad your procedure went well. You'll be back on your bike tomorrow. Yay!!

I am sure you are getting antsy...I am sure you probably heard about the 21 day "restart" that is all the rage on bb.. I guess i could deal with not eating meat or having a glass of wine but there is NO WAY I could go 21 days without working out..That is a bit absurd and I don't care how great the results are..hahaha Okay I think i am done..LOL I am getting alot of pics from Vegas via fellow coaches on fb.. What a tease! LOL Next year.. BTW your bike buddy is doing such a wonderful job :) Have a wonderful evening Holly and i am happy that Rach is being a responsible young lady <3 make sure you give me a shout when she completes her p90 cert!!

Nice to know your friend is a self-starter! Must be a pain to hang around because of the flipping hormones:) I have an ingenious plan to stop TOM (I am nearly 60 for goodness sake!) and just carry on with no reprecussions whatsoever!!!
