Today was beautiful here in KY!  It was almost 80 degrees and that's unheard of in March!  Everything is blooming ahead of schedule.  I tried to take a pic of the Patio Peach tree out front with the Tulip Magnolia tree in the background, but my phone camera wouldn't download them yet.  I'll work on it.

I have not been able work out vigorously since having the hormone pellet "installed".  They said 5 days but when I protested - they said at least 3 so today I walked a couple of miles and worked out in the yard.  I got the deck and patio started for the spring.  It is obvious I am going to have to refinish  my swing this year.  I am going to try to sand it down and paint it with the same opaque stain we had put on the deck last year.  I think that should help it alot.  There were so many weeds!  I usually don't get the work I did today done until mid April - so I am very happy to have a headstart.  Tomorrow I am going to go down to the plant place and pick up a few pansys to put out.  Our weather  could dip down again, but I don't think it will be significant if it does.  We have really had no spring - it's leaping right in to summer.  Our summer was so mild last year and the winter was, too - that's KY for you - it can be beaautiful or bitter.

Food today - a lot of carbs!

B:  2 waffles with jam, water

L:  1/8 C pimento cheese, pita chips

D:  Stuffed Turkey meatloaf-this was great  I will post the recipe on the Forum soon.  I made some chages andn I think I liked them better than  would have the original......I will make more changes next time, too for a little more flavor             carrots and homemade cornbread.

S:  middle to the day = Iced vanilla coffee yummy!

Updated yesterday's post - see info on results of doc visit.  I hope this works.  I started all the supplements this morning (there are some I take a.m.and some in the p.m.)  It was raining and daughter, boyfriend and husband were in the basement watching ballgame so I didn't do ET!  I will make up for all this weekend - Zumba Saturday and big walk/ride Sunday. 

B:  Two LF Froz waffles and jam, 2 slices of turkey

L:  1/2 turkey sandwich NO mayo!  -Grapes or Apple for later

THANK you all for not judging me on the hormones and vitamins.  I feel oddly embarassed to be taking them, as I haven't been a big believer in a lot of supplements (I think I am skeptical by nature), but I have to do something and one of my good customers (a 40-something year old man) referred me to the clinic and he has done phenomenally in the past few months!  So I was willing to try it.  As I said before - we shall see!  The site of the pellet is a little tender today, but they said that should go away.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

I've never heard of pellets of hormones--interesting. I was offered an estrogen/progesterone replacement, held the prescription, but ultimately rejected it after finding out about my sleep apnea! I still see it as an option, but I'm not dying to try it either.

I was on Facebook last night and a friend in Michigan posted about the tornadoes. So I sent my family messages asking if all was okay. I kept up with what was happening via some local Michigan sites. Scary.

I went on HRT because I was only 40 when I went through menopause. My doctor said at my age he recommended it. Stayed on for 10 years and my doctor here said it was time to quit.

I guess I always expect turkey to be dry. I just got used to the light mayo as I did when I switched to skimmed milk years ago.

Im glad you got some answers on your fatigue. Hopefully the hormones and vitamins will get you in better balance and restore your energy levels! You need lots of energy for those lovely bike rides!! :)

Oh hey, thank you for letting us know about it. You are undoubtedly going to help someone who reads about your experience!

I have a friend who (pre-menopause) decided to have a total hysterectomy about a year ago. It was her call to have her uterus removed--there were other things she could have tried first--to her it was just easier then to MAKE a surgeon remove her healthy ovaries as well. She's 56. She's not on any hormone replacement at all. I don't think I'd navigate that particular scenario without trying at least the bio-identical hormones. She sort of thrives on drama though:-)

I guess the takeaway is that there are as many ways to go through menopause as there are women!

I wish you luck with the supplements. Please share your opinion and experience. I'm not a medicine taker at all - it took me a long time to realize that I should be taking vitamins. I tried to do it all through nutrition but it becomes obvious that you reach a certain age and you need a little boost. I'm going to be 51 in a couple weeks and I have been suffering with not sleeping at night and serious night sweats. A friend told me about soy isoflavins and the night sweats have greatly diminished. Since the sugar divorce I am sleeping better, but still not all night. A lot of the reading I have been doing seems to point to hormone changes for my weight gain and now my prolonged weight loss plateau. I realize I need to be patient until my hormones settle down, but I don't know if they will without any supplements. So I am really interested in your journey! The muffins were fabulous. I had read about soaking the ww pastry flour in buttermilk overnight and I was very pleased with the results. One thing I did find out, don't buy Bob's Red Mill, buy it in organic bulk like from Whole Foods Store. They say The Bob's Red Mill has an unpleasant flavor. I'm getting ready to go ride my bike. I'm waiting for the sun to go down just a little so maybe it will be cooler. It's in the mid 80's right now. How's your bike adjustments?

Thank you all for your support during my bicycle saddle "crisis"  LOL!!!  I am happy to report (also see update of yesterday's post) that I was able to ride at least 7.5 miles last night - ran out of time before I had to be at church and wanted to clean up a little before I went.  The additional adjustments did help, however, I believe I will have to get a wider saddle as I still feel like I am moving around on the saddle because it is too narrow.  I am going to try lowering it just a smidge tonight and seeing if it can come forward anymore at all.  I have read that it's now thought that women may benefit from a shorter top tube in proportion to their height than men - now all this gobbledy-goop talk is fine, but ALL I want to do is RIDE!  I will however, keep working on it.  I havaen't said this outloud yet to anyone, but there is a bike ride in London KY - that's in the Eastern part of the state called The Redbud Ride - for the wild redbud trees that bloom in the Spring on the mountains.  It is a fairly new ride and I think I'd like to try what they call the Yellow Route - which is the shortest at 23 miles.  It's in April - I think April 21st.  So I am shooting to be in good enough SADDLE SHAPE to do it.  There is a 38 miler, a 70 and a 102 mile ride, too., but I will be happy this year with the 23 mile one.  I have never ridden in an organized ride before.  I rode over 25 miles last year a few times on my OLD bike, so I know I can do it.  But I just need to get used to this saddle or trade it out for one that works for me better in time for the ride.  I will not do the ride unless I KNOW I can be comfortable, because once you start down the road, there is no turning back.  You can check out the ride at this site - if you are interested in seeing what it looks like and details-who knows - maybe one of you will join me???!!!

UPDATE:  I had my follow up with the hormone specialists and found that I was extremely low in all areas of hormones.  No surprise there.  I have opted to try natural vitamin and hormone replacement therapy for no less than one year.  I started today with a shot of B-12 and another hormone that is supposed to support your adrenal system.  Then I also got a tesosterone/estrogen hormone "pellet" inserted under my skin on the top of my hip.  I will have another B-12/adrenal support shot in two weeks and in 6 weeks I will have another blood draw to see if my hormone levels are coming up.  At 11 weeks another blood draw and see where they are then and in week 12 I'll get another "pellet" that will be adjusted according to what the last bloodwork says.  I am also to take natural supplements including  a thyroid tablet, multi-vitamin, an adrenal support pill, probiotics and progesterone.  Now I think I sound like a hypocondriac!  But I hope all this works.  I feel like these doctors understand my issues and offer somethng to help.  As I have said before - We shall see......

Holly- that sounds like so much fun!!! I would love a scenic ride except I wouldn't want to ride fast because I would want to be taking photographs!!! I'm glad you got your ride in last night. We did too. About a half of a mile from my house the old county club was foreclosed last month so we used the cart paths for a bike trail! It was more interesting than the straight a way on the levee, but it was also more scary not knowing the degree of the turns. I actually got a stitch in my side when we got home so I think I may have built up some lactic acid which would be a 1st for me! So I hope it was productive...If I had vacation time I would definitely join you, but the day after my daughter graduates we will be leaving for Cancun which is part of my urgency to get in shape and that eats up my vacay days for the year...

Glad you're enjoying your bike! Shouldn't be long until I can go on mine. I love riding to the botanic garden, having a walk around and stopping at the cafe for lunch. When we visit Michigan in June we're doing a 33 mile ride on a trail that used to be railroad tracks.

This trail is called the Kal-Haven trail. Goes from Kalamazoo to South Haven on Lake Michigan. Mostly flat I think so should be easy unless it's too hot.

That is great that you are taking care of your hormones and vitamins etc. I had some test done last year and found out I was way low on vitamin D and B-12. I've been slacking off on making sure I am taking my suppliments. I need to work on that.

Rode 9 miles last night on bike.  See update on yesterday's diary.  I think the adjustments I made made a difference, plus different riding techniques.  Plus building up to longer rides :o)  I hope to ride at least 5-6 miles tonight.  I only have "expected soreness" this morning.  When you first start riding in the spring there is a certain amount of pressure soreness you will have at first - there just shouldn't be extreme pain and swelling!  LOL!

Eatng was OK last night...

L:  At my desk because I wanted to get out early left over pizza slice, orange

D:  smoothie, 10 Gracie's Best cookies - these are teeny tiny bits -  all natural with Sunflower Seeds-

I got to ride a little tonight.  I am going to have to replace the saddle on the bike - although I am getting "used to" it - it does not hit me correctly.  I need a saddle that is slightly wider.  My sit bones are falling to the side.  I only got to ride 7.5 miles tonight as I ran out of time before I had to go to church group. 

Went to see my mom as her house is on the way to the airport - where I went later to pick up husband.  Her old schnauser doggie has been a bit sick lately.  She's lost a little weight.  She belonged to my brother who passed away 7 years ago this May.  I hope she isn't going to get really sick as it would be particularly hard on mom right now.  My brother got her from a rescue and we don't really know how old she is - maybe as much as 12-14, but who knows.  Anyway I see a trip to the vet in my future.

The weather can contribute to being tired, I'm pretty sure of this. You did well to fight against it by biking a bit, exercise boosts your cells and gives you air on so many levels... Extreme pain... in the butt you mean??? LOL... I always feel that after RPM, but it's worse when you ride outside and catch all the bumps and small ditches... OMG, when can I ride the bike again???? Most probably never... but I am so unable to sell my lovely white "horse" just yet!

mycoplasma is supposed to present like walking pneumonia & my doctor took a blood test that diagnosed it and some people get very ill with it.( I spelled it incorrectly in my response before) I just felt exhausted all of the time. Before I even made my bed in the morning I was wishing that I could climb back in. It seems to be very prevalent here in Singapore.I hadn't heard of it before coming here. I'm not saying that is what you have, however.

YEAH on the bike ride!!! I bet you were so excited to get back out there again! Just take the build up slow so that you don't irritate an already irritated rear!! I wanted to ride last night since we now have extra daylight, but I had an eye appointment and my eyes were STILL dilated when I went to bed at 10pm! Hopefully tonight I can hit the country club course...

Ended the day on a sour note yesterday see update - terrible food choices and no exercise -- mind numbing fatigue at the end of the day.  I hope the hormone panel I go to find the results of on Thursday this week show a reason for my fatigue.  I am so tiredall the time.  I havae to make myself do stuff-pretty much everything after 1:00-2:00 in the afternoon!

B:  Protein smoothie, coffee

L:  baked chicken breast (small),. steamed green beans, salad light dressing, choc mousse (light)

Thank you all for the concern.  I don't know why I am SO tired.  It's 2:20 and I could close my eyes and go sound asleep.  Biscotti posted a sleep oriented live chat - tonight at 8:00  I may get to check it out.   

I rode 9 miles tonight.  I was able to study what I was doing to compensate for the ill fit/uncomfortable saddle.  And I think I was stretched out too far forward because I kept pressing myself back on the saddle and into the narrow part of the saddle.  When I got home I adjusted my handlebars - tilted them up and toward me a little bit and rode down the street a bit.  Seemed like I was not straining as much to stay on the right spot on the saddle and was resting easier on the seat.  During the 9 mile ride I also stood up while pedaling more and tried to put more of my weight on my legs instead of the saddle.  I think with all these modifications while riding and the adjustment of the handlebars I will be better next ride.  I just hope I don't get sore on the old "sit bones" again!

D:  Leftover Rotisserie Chicken and beets and turnips.  YUM

Aww Hi Holly!! Missed you so much. I hope your fatigue symptoms get easier. I started taking some supplements I was missing and I feel so much better. Have you had your levels checked recently? It's amazing how our bodies can literally change overnight. Lots of love to you!

Hang in there Holly. Could the fatigue just be true exhaustion? If getting plenty rest doesn't help than maybe you should see your doc before it goes too far. This time change on top of my being sick for 10 days now doesn't have me feeling right either. I took an extra multi vitamin this morning. Take care of yourself and I hope you are back in the saddle real soon! (The rain can cause emotional fatigue too...)

Have you had your thyroid checked? When mine was out of whack, I had the same unbelievable fatigue that I've never felt before. With medication, it's much better now. I hope you find out the cause soon.

Also, if you don't get the answers you need right off the bat from your upcoming appt, keep asking. I recently saw a statistic that fatigue is THE #1 reason people visit a dr, so it's common.

It's awful to feel so poorly when you expect to feel good--hang in there hollybelle!

I am sorry you felt that you had such a bad evening. However, you didn't binge and ate either good food or reasonable servings so don't be too hard on yourself. It is hard to stay sensible when you are exhausted. My illness means that I am useless after midday, I think somnambulant would be a good word to describe me after 1pm. I bet that it is hormones mucking you around holly, hope you can get it worked out it must be a shock to suddenly feel tired so much after being so full of energy:( Hope you get an answer soon:)

When I visited the Dr last year after feeling fatigued I was diagnosed with microplasma even though I didn't have other symptoms. Hope they can find your problem.

Quick Recap of the weekend -

Saturday - worked on the positioning of the bike seat and went for a short (3 miles) ride - jury is still out on if it's "fixed".  Time will tell.  Worked a little bit in the yard and did the kettlebell 15 minute workout.  Ate OK.

Sunday -  Went for a 2.5 mile walk with the dogs and a friend, did the kettlebell workout and worked a litttle more in the yard.  Went to Sam's club/had a friend over for dinner.  Ate excellent.

Today so far:  2 low fat whole grain toaster waffles and jam, coffee.....

L:  Roasted chicken, beets and turnips, granola bar

It is supposed to be 75 degrees today and I plan to either ridie the bike, do Zumba or both.  We will see.   It's pouring rain and no end in sight!  Yuck!  

S:  Orange

D:  Cupcake made by daughter, salsa and chips,

S:  Cereal

Nutrition went down the tubes at the end of the day.  Extreme fatigue and took a nap around 5:30-woke up at 9:45 and stayed up until around midnight.  No exercise.

I got my 25 mile bike ride in yesterday!!! And no saddle soreness. My only casualty was a little sunburn on my arms that radiated heat all night. Sounds like you had a great weekend!

Hope you get the seat you need on your bike. It's important to be very comfy on your bike. Sometimes we ride about 20 miles.

Holly, it's the black and white one. It came on my bike and I guess I was fortunate because my hubby has been trying different saddles and covers and whatnots, but I've been fine. My first trip on the bike was 10 miles and my friend was complaining about her saddle so after the ride she bought a new one. She hasn't ridden with me since to know if it helped. And yesterday's ride was 25 miles and not even a reminder that I rode yesterday. When I was young, I had a Peugot racing bike that occasionally I didn't sit exactly right but I would have that discomfort after my ride. I thought it was because I was too skinny (108 at the time) I figured with my extra padding now, I wouldn't have a problem! But you are right, it's all about the proper fit more than the padding. Good luck! Now, not to sound stupid, what is Zumba? I've seen where a bunch of people "do it" and I haven't had time to look it up. I guess I'm being lazy because I could google it but I thought you could give me some insight! Thanks!

I had one of their women's saddles back in the 70s, and I could ride forever. I don't EVEN come close to riding as much anymore as I did back then. Of course the bod was younger too, but I remember what a revelation it was to have a decent saddle. I think it may have been one of the first companies to make women-specific saddles.

They mention a 30-day return guarantee. I hope they're still making saddles--the website looks a little "old timey" haha!

Didn't up date yesterday but I can tell you I ate too much calories and no exercise.  This morning I had to get up at 6:00 to help husband get off to New Orleans for his conference.  I did my little kettlebell workout and it felt really good. I can tell my legs are getting stronger from the bike ride when  do the figure eight squat/lunges.  

I made the biggest mess in the kitchen you have ever seen!  Making the Crispy Eggplant Portabella Lasagne that I posted on my regular (not DD) facebook page.  It is delicious, though!  

Going to get up here and go for a ride on the bike.....short one so that I don't get the soreness agian, so I can ride again tomorrow!  Fingers crossed.

Yesterday is updated and I did ok on eating.  My saddle soreness is MUCH better which leads me to believe it is mostly from not building up to the mileage and not an overall problem with the saddle itself.  We will see.....

I saw a guy doing the kettlebell exercises yesterday at the gym - they remind me so much of the bells that the cows wear around their necks in Switzerland :) Get well soon from the saddle sore...

Im glad your bum is feeling better. :-)

I've been drinking smoothies on and off all winter with my favorite being spinach, pb and banana with chocolate whey protein and milk. I made it with almond milk the other day and it tastes pretty good...and its a lot lower in calories and carbs!

Sorry about the saddle soreness! My hubby is having to build up to his also. He got a new bike last week. I only rode 4 miles last night but I am ready to get back to my 10 mile rides. If the weather holds out we are planning to get to the zoo this weekend. It is 7 miles there on the levee and 7 miles back, so if we break it up with lunch and maybe lock our bikes and walk through the zoo, I think I can make it.

Glad your backside is toughining up! One of my brothers is an avid race biker and he walks funny sometimes and sits gingerly once in a while lol. Praying for you on the thyroid issue as well! This is a frustrating, ever changing and irritating condition that has so many facets of care and isn't a simple solve with a pill as some drs like to claim! With each day I find out more lol. Keep me updated!

Updated yesterday's post.  Check out the good news about my bike ride!  Did a Kettlebell workout, too.  I am paying for the 12 miles on the bike today, however-I am very saddle sore.  I will actually have to wait before I ride again.  :o(  I had to put ice on my bum -brrrrrr- last night.  I am going to play with the adjustment of the seat, some chamois cream and take some shorter rides over the next two weeks if the weather holds out.  It is going to rain all day today.  I was FINE on strength and endurance - and the saddle problem didn't happen until I was finished.  I never relly got used to the new saddle on the new bike last year and it's very different.  I don't think I need to replace the saddle yet - need to work up to it and see what happens.  This is rather common for cyclists.  Over all, though, I love my bike. 

More later.....

B:  so far just coffee, but I'll eat later today Forgot about breakfast ( a no-no)

L:  Salmon, carrots and green beans

S:  Birthday at the office - I endulged in a small brownie and a dab of vanilla ice cream

Need to drink lots of water the rest of the day!  I've been doing better at that lately.

D:  1/2 pork chop, cereal and bread, not a great combo

I didn't get a ride in for two reasons - my bum is still sore and it rained all day and night.

WOW, what a bikeride! (I read about in yesterday's entry.) You are BRAVE taking on that terrain! :-D Have you thought about getting a wider more comfy saddle for your bike?

Nice job on the bike. As for kettlebells, I always forget about used sporting good stores or even TJMaxx. I'll definitely check them out when I feel like I'm ready for more weight.

After eating a bunch of junk yesterday I am vowing to do better nutritionally today. See yesterday's update.  I hope to ride my bike this afternoon.  It is supposed to be very warm today around 50!  This is so wonderful for MARCH!!

Did the Kettlebell already.

B: Cherrios and 1/2 banana, coffee 

L:  1 Cup chili, Sun Chips 100 calorie pack, slaw

S:  Grapes

D:  3" turkey and cheese sandwich on baguette

I rode my bike to church and back tonight.  It was pretty good it's 6 miles one way so I rode 12 miles.  I had a break in the middle because I met with my church group.  I wasn't too sweaty since it was cool weather.  I was a bit self-conscience in my biking clothes inside the church, but there weren't many people there and I just slipped in the side door and went downstairs!  It was a hard ride - lots of hills, which normally aren't much of a problem, but since I was riding the back streets, in town and there are lots of stop signs and traffic lights going into the hills and that leaves no opportunity to build speed to power up the hills so I did a lot of standing in the stirrups.  I don't like that.  I was so glad to get a ride in!!!!!!  It felt so good!!!

S:  Two granola bars 90 cals each

I'll eat a snack in a little while and update menus later/tomorrow - Night all!

Yeah it is unseasonably warm pretty much everywhere..I talked to my Mom yesterday and she said it was 60 in Chicago?? That is unheard of..LOL Enjoy your bike ride today <3
