Yesterday is updated.  The dinner was a DISASTER but not because of calories - see yesterday's update.  But calories were OK & excerise was excellent, if I do say so myself!  David Sanborn concert was very good.

Today so far:

I got up early and made the Carrot Soup Recipe with Tomatillo Relish that Umpqua made last weekend!  It was wonderful and I had that for breakfast- 209 Plus coffee  75 = 284 cals for breakfast.

Hope to get a bike ride in later......lots of cleaning and laundry to do.....Have a BLessed Day everyone!

L:  Soup and pnb & honey sandwich 500

S:  mini muffins!  450

D:  Grilled chicken breast - 65

S:  1 C Skim Milk, Tea and a few crackers 175

OOOPS - went over a little but 1475 - exercise = housework

I am sorry that your food was not very palatable :( it is more than a disappointment for a dieter to have a cheat day and the food is yucccky! How expensive is it for you to buy mussels at the grocer?? i have a really good low fat recipe for them

Thanks for the pep-talk comment. I try not to talk about too much in real life either, so I'm sure my friends don't know quite how insensative they were being. They pretty much just know that I am "trying to be healthier"

Sorry I am just getting back to you...Well you can sautee them in white wine,garlic and you can use real butter or one of the substitutes if you want to take it low cal/fat since most seafoods are naturally salted you really don't have to put much more in them :P Do you guy's have Publix or Kroger there? it would surprise you that the Seafood dept in bigger chains now sell mussels scallops and prawns...yes i wish I could let my friend borrow my confidence for a day :( i feel really bad for her!

You're right about the 3:11 emergency yesterday.. and I also agreed... that's why I ended up eating extra calories.. mainly veggies but a grilled cheese sandwich was thrown in there..three days of 1100 calories or less is hard... I don't know how i did it for somany months a couple years ago.

Ewwww! Sorry to hear y'all's disappointment with the meal last nite but it sounds like you had a good desert. Who wants to eat calories that are not tasting good? Sounds like you did real well with the desert instead! :-D

Did you think to send the food back? It sounds as if it was really bad, in which case sending it back would have been appropriate. I don't balame you getting a dessert to make up for the dissapointment. Do you feel like writing to complain? You may get your money back or at least have expressed your feelings. It looks like today will be a better day, I hope you enjoy it!!:)

Yesterday is updated - ended up with 1330 cals and no exercise - was tired and husband and I went to dinner - he wanted pizza so.....I stuck with my own small pizza and intended to eat half, but wound up eating 3/4 so higher cals than I wanted but was OK anyway.  Didn't exercise - was tired and went to bed early. 

today so far:

B:  coffee w creamer etc.  100, apple 60, part of a fruit & vegetable smoothie  50 (put raw carrots in it and didn't like the texture - maybe steamed ones next time...) = 210

Getting ready to do some laundry and the ET today.  Tonight - David Sanborn concert.   Tomorrow am supposed to go for bike ride with neighbor to the big trail!   

Exercise Update- 45 minutes on ET - almost 400 cals burned/average 5.2 mph 62 rpm - 20 minutes on Sprint 8 Program and 25 minutes on Watts Program at 95, 85, & finally 75 Watts


L:  1 C chicken Noodle "casserole" made from left over noodles and Cream of chick soup (FF) and canned chicken.....150

D:  Very disappointed - husband and I wanted a splurge dinner at a very nice restaurant (or so we thought!) last night.  The food, although premium priced was very mediocre at best - I would say BAD - I had 7 teeny mussels, 5 itsy bitsy chewy clams and 4 tiny shrimp, and one bite of two hugh NASTY scallops.  I could not eat the risotto with which this was served because the sauce tasted like swamp water.  so I wound up with 1 piece of bread w a little butter, a ceasar salad and the little bit of seafood named above......I'd say maybe 300 cals???  So we went to another restaurant for dessert and I had Creme Brulee and coffee which was excellent and I probably "shouldn't" have, but WTH after that dinner!  So Creme Brulee and coffee = I'd say 675 So......... about 1100 cals for the day??  But they weren't very nutritious......Good exercise, though.......

Progress as of today: 13 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

Well have an amazing time this weekend... as for the carrot texture, it's definitely hard to get over... do you have a juicer??? That could be a good option, but they are expensive for one that actually works well... but probably worth the investment.

Grits are SOOOO GOOOD! I love 'em! I microwave my grits (unless I'm cooking a potful for more people than just myself) but I don't buy them in individual serve packs...I just measure out a couple spoonfuls from the big bag that I keep in the fridge and add water and microwave. They be done quickly.

Yesterday is updated and although my cals were higher than they have been in several days I stayed very close to my highest range with 1636 cals.  The only exercise was walking around downtown at the festivities of the WEGs.  Higher cals were due to eating some favorite foods at Cracker Barrel and resturant where husband wanted to go for dinner.  Could have been MUCH worse.  Today no worse for the wear - I am marching right along with good habits!

B:  Tea, Apple 60 

S:  5 almonds  35

L:  1/2 turkey w/spinach and tiny bit mayo, 7 baby carrots and 14 pretzels  235

D:   Cheese and pepper pizza  750

S:  Smoothie  250

Total cals 1330         Exercise - None 

Progress as of today: 13 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

Great attitude! I love me some Cracker Barrel! My favorite side dishes are their fried okra and hashbrown casserole. And dont get me started on their country fried steak, sausage gravy, and biscuits! :)

I love to eat at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant and shop and browse in their beautiful store! Did you get to look around in the store part?

As for the washer and dryer, they are both GE...just the basic kind. I think they are a little smaller than the old set but that's fine, since it is just Hubby and me here in this house. :-)

I am hungry tonite but am NOTTTTTT giving in! :-( Hope you're having a nice evening over there in beautiful Kentucky (that Hubby and I love...it is our very FAVORITE STATE besides SC). We especially love the mountains there.

Yesterday is updated 1230 cals and no real exericse - a little stretching and walking 15 minutes.......

This morning I got up and did YOGA.  I stretched with a strap like Loveray showed me last weekend after doing some of the poses I remembered moving down my body from the class on Monday night.  I feel really good.

I have to run and meet a man to look at fixing my stove in 10 minutes so - more later.......

B:  Smoothie 250, Tea 

L:  Grapes125, 1/2 turkey and spinach sandwich w tiny mayo 125. 8 Pretzels 56, raw carrots 20 =    326


AAAUUUGGGHHH !  They are doing it again - Brownies today!  Hot and gooey!  It's odd but after yesterdays cookie "episode" I am finding it pretty easy to eat my apple and drink my tea.  It's like I can look ahead beyond the goodie and see that this will pass and I can indulge or NOT.  Not for me, right now is better.  I have a choice and I'm making it.  Apple and Tea! 60 cals.  

D:  Sweet Potato Casserole and cornbread dressing, corn pudding!!!  I'd say about 1000 calories!  Got together with my friends after work last night and they wanted to meet at Cracker Barrel.  I couldn't resist the first two side dishes above - two of my favorites.  Later on husband and I went downtown to Thursday Night Live (music and food, drinks, etc.) and although I didn't order a dinner at the restaurant he wanted to go to I did get a side of corn pudding. 

1636 Calories!

No exercise except walking around downtown for an hour.

Yesterday is updated.  I did great on calories - 1215 for the day and although I didn't ride bike I walked over an hour with husband and dogs.  I really do not feel like walking is a workout and probably need to step up my exercise to burn more cals - ET or bike rides will do it.  But Husband wanted me to walk with him and dogs.  After being gone all weekend I though it was the least I could do - LOL!

So far today:

I am feeling hungry today so I'll make sure I eat enough lunch and that it is healthy stuff.

I bought a new cookbook last night - Taste of Home Healthy Food or something like that.  I think Sweetpea may have this cookbook......I'll have to ask her.  It looks really good - like stuff I would really make.  So I am hoping to have some good recipes to recommend and post on the site......fingers crossed!

OK this is NO FAIR - they are making choc chip cookies in the oven in the office - those pre-portioned ones from the store!  They are warm and gooey and I would like to have one, but oh, no, I am in my office eating an apple.  It is delicious.  My brain wants cookie, but my body is better off with an apple!

Burrito sounds yummy! Back when I was working full-time I walked on my lunch break most days. I also hit a point where it didn't feel challenging and I began to wear 1/2-pound wrist weights. That definitely helps if you don't mind wearing them. Hope you have a good one!

No, I dont have that cookbook, but I have recieved some of their magazines. All good stuff. Im thinking about getting the one you mentioned though, because of all of just42days success with an older edition from the same company. She has posted quite a few recipes from it in the forums...Im curious in knowing if the new book has any of the recipes she has tried.

Walking is great exercise, but once you reach a certain fitness level walking alone (unless you walk like 5-6 hours a day!) isnt enough. I think as long as you mix the walking with other forms of exercise, like your ET bike and yoga, you'll continue to see results. If I can get my hubby to walk, I'd walk every evening with him just to make sure he got some kind of exercise in! In my opinion, he needs to lose 20 lbs and walking would be such an easy way for him to get them off! :)

i think walking is definitely a respectable "workout" - but i agree that the body needs to be challenged with other types of workouts just like with food. weight training is something i am missing in my workouts recently that i think would really help amp up the after-calorie burn. i am excited to try kettlebells for this reason- seems like a good cardio/weight mix to me. yoga rocks though!! xo

lol... you have a much nicer more sensible more calm head on your shoulder than I do hahaha... I was reading about your neighbor comment and I was like "hhhmm can I be that calm???" Normally I'm good and can stay calm and have a great poker face (probably the years of serving and my years of training at law school) but there are just those people that I feel have no consideration for others... she's the woman who walks in the middle of our parking lot so I can't drive by her when I'm leaving, and when she does finally move over and I drive by at 10mph she screams, SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!! haha I might have to avoid encounters lol

Your menu looks great, but the big hurrah is for the resisting of the baking choc chip cookies. I am not at that place yet. I would have vaulted over my cubicle wall and grabbed the whole baking sheet. *sigh*. So you are to be commended big time.

Hey girl!!! Now as far as my ribs I usually try to find a leaner cut now, country ribs or finger is prob the leanest...I put a dry rub Mccormick's grillmates Roasted garlic and herbs let sit in fridge for at least an hour...Put ribs in a pan/roaster add a can of beer and bake til almost done, drain the liquids and add sauce(since most bbq sauces is loaded with carbs i experiment making my own) The last time I used a low sodium low carb buffalo sauce as a base and added spicy brown mustard and a tad bit of bbq sauce...I broil each side...I bet you make a good sauce Holly! Hint Hint...LOL

Yesterday's LONG entry is updated with calories and exercise.  940 calories - weird day.  And 1 hour of YOGA - Loveray will be so proud of me.  I traveled with husband to Louisville, KY - about an hour away and went with a friend  to her gym for YOGA.  It was a beginner's class and I did ok.  I didn't catch all the names of the poses and I thought the instructor's voice was annoying but it was a REALLY GOOD stretch and strengthening activity. The thing I had the most trouble with was one where we bent over and touched the floor and raised our leg up behind us (try to touch the wall behind you - she said!  - yeah, right - LOL!).  I am going to try to find a few classes around my hometown until I get the hang of the process.  It's bound to help with my flexibility and therefore, my mobility!  I may even try to find a private instructor so I can just learn and take it home with me to continue.  I sure wish Loveray was closer to KY!

B:  Smoothie - the usual - BUT with 2 C baby spinach!  Delicious  245, Coffee  75  = 320

Have to go to professional assoc meeting for lunch so will try to watch cals there.......pre-set menu!

L:  Did good at lunch today despite no choice of foods.  They had Salad, turkey with gravey, green beans and new potatoes, butter and rolls, apple pie - I ate: 

4  grape tomatoes off salad, one roll with butter (their rolls are really good) and green beans, and 5 little quarters of the new red potatoes I will estimate 275 - very low but lots of fat in there with the roll and butter.  I'll watch nutrition tonight and eat low fat, too!  Subtotal so far today:  595

Planning bike ride or ET tonight.  The sun has come back out and it's beautiful so probably bike ride. 


S:  7 almonds X 2 = 70

D:  Shredded Pork Burrito 300

S:  With Husband after walk - Smoothie  250

Total Cals- 1215 

Exercise- 1.25 Hr Walk

YAY do i see spinach AND yoga on the menu?!! i am so excited for you. you must have been trying to get into warrior 3 or standing splits - which is VERY advanced for a beginner class...hmm. like i said, lengthen and stretch your hamstrings, beef up your quads and you should be balanced with a more open lower back and a stronger core in no-time!! love to you.

I bought some spinach for the sole purpose of those fabulous green smoothies. I have some protein powder that needs to be used up (so I can buy the right kind next time!) so I'll be having a few this week. Hopefully, Ethan wont drink it all before I get a chance too. :)

I love yoga because it really does help you stretch everything out, and definitely increases flexibility. I would still be practicing yoga, but it's really hard to find locally and I don't really have the finances for it anymore. You guys are really starting to sell me on the spinach smoothies. I might just have to buy me some spinach.

LOL on the instructor's voice! :) I understand you, I gave up a really nice training video because of the irritating instructor there... Come on, why don't they hire Hollywood actors for these videos... :P I find Pilates hard, and they say it's lighter version of yoga. I'd love to try yoga, will have to look at the agenda of the place I go.

There's a yoga program om PBS - Priscilla's Stretches or something like that. She is good. Maybe you can get the program in your area. I think she's in NC.

I'm just not self-motivated to do the poses by myself. I need a class. They can be pricey too, but worth it.

Oh I am moving wayyyy slow on adding the carbs...My problem is that if I think too much about it I get all stressed out about gaining or not losing so that is my major concern

Please note the change on my current weight.  This is 1.2 lbs below where I was a few days ago (last Wednesday??? maybe) when I last weighed and posted the change!  How much of this might be attributed to the DD Retreat in Blue Ridge, GA - well, who knows - but I'm just saying.......

The retreat was great!  It was so wonderful to meet in person some of the people I have gotten to know on this site through the years!  We had a terrific time sharing stories, recipes, eating healthy and exercising.  I didn't do any cooking - which was amazing to me - but I started the fires (yes it was cool in the mountains) on the deck by the hottub a couple of nights-which allowed me to sharpen up some rusty girl scout skills! 

There are some funny stories - my friend Teresa (she came with me - adventurous soul that she is) suggested we write an account of all the funny stuff that happened as we went along, but of course being distracted by simply being there together we didn't......Some things that come to mind:

The cast - Me, of course, Loveray, Sweetpea, Umpqua and my friend, Teresa.

The Cabin - it was not the rustic abode that the word "cabin" conjures up - it was more like a mountain resort home.  Very beautiful and spacious with a hot tub and lots of deck space and beautiful views.  There should be pictures on someone's diary soon.  My camera batteries died and I am technically challenged when it comes to posting picture on anything other than faceboook.

The Dog - when we arrived we noticed a "well-aged" friendly little beagle.  He hung around so much we nick-named him Homer!  He had clean ears, clipped nails and didn't look like he had missed too many meals so we figured he belonged to someone, somewhere.  He had a pesky habit of barking on the front porch by the front door!  We finally figured out that if we let him IN at night he would just lay down on one of the rugs and go to sleep and be perfectly happy - not bothering anyone.  He was obviously used to this treatment at this cabin!  He went with Teresa and I on a short hike near the cabin and basically was "our dog" while we were at the cabin.  We all agreed he should get "billing" in the advertisement for this vacation rental......something like - "Beautiful mountain cabin, spectacular views and comes with it's own beagle....."!  Since I am definitely a dog lover it was kind of neat and makes for a good story!!

The food - oh my goodness!  We ate some terrific, healthy food. it turned out I didn't cook at all. The most amazing thing to me was spinach in smoothies                  (ala Loveray).  You can't tell it's there and I will be putting it in all my smoothies from now on - my smoothie recipe is on this site - so just add spinach - it's a great way to get a vegetable and fruit serving in deliciously and without too many calories!  We had the most delicious carrot soup with tomatillo relish (this definitely adds the "mojo") by Umpqua.  Great turkey chili and muffins by Swedtpea.  Loveray made salmon, asparagus and sweet potatoes which were awesome.  I can't wait to make ALL these recipes for my husband (and daughter).  

Our only dessert was roasted marshmellows by the fire at night.  90 calories - in case youre wondering!

The hike - Blue Ridge is a beautiful place to hike.  Getting exercise is not a problem in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  If you go - you can count on a workout getting up the mountain and some beautiful views.  

The Wish -  We WISHED SO hard that ALL (or at least more) our DD friends could be there.  We will have to plan another in the Spring and see if we can get a bigger crowd, anyone who has any ideas - I'm game to help plan and host!!!   

Loveray showed me some yoga "moves", poses, stretches, (not sure what to call them LOL!) that I definitely will continue to do (probably daily) to improve my back, leg mobility so look for comments in my posts about that!  I can already tell a difference - even after driving 5.5 hours home yesterday!

SIGH - I could definitely have stayed longer!  Back to life and our virtual gathering here on this site. 

So far today:

B:  Tea, banana 100

L:  Emergency desk lunch - pretzels, pnb, apple, another banana 420 and I'm full!  More tea

D:  Had to eat with husband at a "seafood" restaurant - one of those that only has fried stuff - we went out of town so he could attend a meeting with a friend and I did YOGA (loveray will be so proud of me) with the friend's wife at her gym while he did that.  I ate 1.5 hushpuppies and about 5 "boom boom" shrimp.  Probably about 400 calories - YUCK!!

S:  Was hungry by the time we finally got home so I ate some extra sharp cheddar about 1 oz or less and a few of pita crackers  (7) 250.  Also some dark chocolate - 3 small squares 70   so 320 for this snack at bedtime......

I calculate 940 calories for the day and 1 hour YOGA for exercise

Progress as of today: 13 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

Good morning! I just peeked at the pics from the retreat,Your hair is sooo cute!!! Did you cut it recently? I am currently pondering doing just the same, I have been trying to let all of my layers grow out however I always throw it back into 2 ponytails so what's the point if I never wear it down right! Well I am glad you guys had a wonderful time I am waiting for the Homer story :)

Back in the day when I was on DD years ago I SO wanted to set up some meetings with the dieters here but no one really showed any real interest so I thought this was SO great when I seen this. We have so many things in life which we cannot choose but forced to do (work, eat, etc... LOL), I don't want to force myself to anything else..

well, i read one book called "lucia, lucia." I believe you would like it, main character is 25 years old living in..hmmm, brooklyn i think? but it was on the NY Times bestseller list and is a very captivating, well-written book. around 200 pages.

the book i stayed up reading was a light read, the first novel ever written by the author. It's called "Stay." It's good, a quick read despite being 300 pages. I read most of it in one sitting, like i said. I think it's more a book geared toward 20-something year olds. Also about a 20-something female who is becoming her own, learning to live in a world that is not always comforting or inviting. But there are many lessons learned and it will make you cry at the end...at least i cried...maybe bc i was so overtired! lol. no, it was good, i enjoyed it very much and i would recommend it to anyone around my age for sure. also, it involves love and lessons in the romantic department.

Lucia, Lucia and Stay are similiar in that the main characters are around the same age and both involve dating and romatic relationships. there is much more depth to both novels and they will both hold the readers attention throughout. perhaps your daughter would like one.

i only read when i have the time...and now that i work part time, i am trying to fit in reading daily for the time being.

It sounds like you had a pretty good day to me, if you are feeling that strongly about getting your exercise in but lacking the 'get up and go' - is there a friend that can collect you from home or phone you up and nag you. I am just trying to come up with suggestions - I struggle with the motivation to exercise myself, so I am not a lot of help to you. I hope you have another good eating day anyway because this one was. You are doing well.

Fell asleep last night at 8:00 and slept through - WOW!    Can't believe it!  No exercise - but must have needed it.  I am riding bike on the 20 mile trail with a friend I haven't seen in awhile - can't wait.


B:  Tea, grapes and apple  160

L:  PF Chang's for birthday lunch with friends - I did well, though - Cup of Sweet and Sour Soup, 1/2 lunch size grilled salmons 1/2 order of brown rice only 400 for a whole order of these things - so half = 200 + a few crispy noodles in the soup - 50 = 250 for lunch!  Who knew it would be so low - I may have had slightly more than 1/2 of the fish - so I'll round up to 300 total

UPDATED total Cals = 1280

Rained so didn't get my bike ride in  :o(  Planned to do ET but didn't......Walk with friend tonight......
