(Healthy Eating and Exercise)
Weight: 168.2

UPDATE:  Posted the Guacamole Chicken Tostada reciepe on the Forum.

I'm back - didn't update Friday or post yesterday, but both were good days eating and exercise wise.

I rode bike about 40 minutes Friday night and over an hour yesterday morrning.  and I'm not sore.  My muscles feel a bit tired, but not sore!  Most importantly- my BACK is OK so far.  It's hot again today so I am going to do ellipitcal trainer today, or ride bike later when it cools off.  I also walked 2 miles with my friend yesteday afternoon and worked very hard for about 2 hours in the yard, bending and raking and trimming and planting ground cover plants.  So I did fine on exercise Fri and Sat!

Going to catch up on some diaries - have a great Sunday everyone!

Progress as of today: 9.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:
I wrote a comment to your entry before today's and then after I submitted it, a blank came up signifying that you were working on today's entry, hehehe! You are the only person I know of that feels about those grapes like I do. Fascinating. 7 years? Wow, I had no idea! No wonder they aren't producing yet, even though I went so far as to use black cow manure one year and another kind of fertilizer this past time. Pretty, green leaves, though, I'll say and the vines...oh, my, I'll have to see if I can put a picture of them in my entry....the vines have really taken off. That is wonderful about your Daughter. I know you are very proud of her. As for tomatoes, I had a beautiful tomato garden around the back deck one year, but just as soon as the tomatoes began turning slightly red, the squirrels (we have lots of trees and lots of squirrels who live in them) decided to have a big picnic and we went out there to the bushes to find half-eaten (the ripe part of the tomatoes) tomatoes on the bushes! They hadn't gotten large enough for us to pick and bring them in to finish ripening. Another time I had a different kind of tomato bush and it had to be watered twice a day or it would really, really wilt! Got a few very small tomatoes off it and that was it. Not worth it. Oh, guess what???? Yesterday at the farmers market, one of the vendors had PUMPKINS for sale! How tempting to buy one! They were big and round and beautiful, but not bright orange, more of a tan color. Hubby said they wouldn't last and I didn't buy one yet. I think they are so pretty with yellow mums and orange flowers (forgot name) set on a bale of hay! :-D

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:
PS...glad to read that your exercise didn't bother your back. You sure are doing really well with all your workouts! :-)

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
Ahh 40 min. biking, now that's very good!!!!! :-))) I'm so happy you could resist the cake. Today I resisted, too! The quail was really nice, yes! I ate three... or four. Even with 4 it didn't have the quantity of a simple chicken leg, lol... Sangria - I shouldn't have, it's very sugary and I'm not allowed to drink alcohol but what the heck, it was the first time since January...

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
I'm doing the carrot cake soon... I will let you know how it went. :D

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
I saw the recipe, it sounds good, +/- 400 kcal is a very fair dinner/lunch option!!!

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
smoothie!!! But what a great ideia!!! I'm not used to smoothies, they are not that popular around here. I bet the only icey smoothies available are the oversweetened McDonalds'. I mean, milk-based. I really have to give them a try!!! Thanks again, Holly :)

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
I mean, give a try: to make one of your shared recipes. Not McDonald's.. lol

just42day on 08/08/2010:
Thanks for the recipe! I'll try it soon! Oh, when I made the shrimp w/basil, I just sauted it w/nonfat cooking spray because I didn't want to fire up the grill just for me. Plus my shrimp were shrimpy (small!)so they weren't really approrpriate for skewering and grilling. Taste was fabulous non the less!

moogy on 08/08/2010:
You got in heaps of exercise and seem to be doing it without any damage. That is encouraging, I bet you are feeling great - a little sore but in a good way.

2luvself on 08/08/2010:
Have a good one, you have a great plan.

V on 08/08/2010:
I am so glad you did not have any back issues :) have a good evening Holly :)

(Healthy Eating and Exercise)
Weight: 168.2

Yesterday is updated below and was OK.  I found a great new, healthy recipe for dinner and we really enjoyed it!  Husband said he could eat it once a week for the rest of the summer!

I am still munching on the scuppernong grapes daily.  They are wonderful and this is the only time of the year I can get them.  The muscadine grapes should be in this weekend or next week.  Yum!

I still don't have a work PC so I haven't been on as much lately updated 2-3 times per day.  But I'm still committed.  Sorry I haven't been able to visit your all's diaries much.  The weekend is coming!

Someone brought in donuts at work this a.m. - glazed, powered and my personal fave - coconut cake!  My personal challenge is NOT to eat ANY!  I have done so well.  I might enjoy a donut, but, frankly, I am enjoying my succeess more!  I am wearing a knit top that I was embarassed to wear in public lately.  There is not much mid-drift bulge today!  I like that.  Notice I said not much....room for improvement.  I may weight next Wednesday and update my progress bar.

Today so far:

B:  Coffee 75  Cereal 200 = 275

L:  Guacamole/chicken tostada  400

S:  Smoothie  225

Subtotal 900 so I have about 400-500 to go for the day.

Progress as of today: 9.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 08/06/2010:
Hehehehe!!! LOVE your entry today, Hollybelle! :-D

You and I LOVE our scuppernong grapes, don't we? I'VE ALREADY EATEN ALLLLL OF MINE!!!! Guess I'll have to make a trip back over to the farmers market and get some more, if they have any (they didn't have a LOT when I bought mine). None of the grocery stores I've been in lately have them in yet. As for donuts, DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How I LOVE donut holes, the glazed KK kind. Might give in and have some today, just fit it in with my calories cause I've found that if I start depriving myself of what I truly want to eat, I'm setting myself up for a food binge at nite! :-D

Umpqua on 08/06/2010:
Your dinner last night sounds incredible. I hope you have a terrific weekend!

KathyBlue on 08/06/2010:
ayyy grapes, I'm not allowed to eat grapes... :( Anyway I eat sometimes :D

KathyBlue on 08/06/2010:
so what's the recipe??? :) I hope you keep your willpower and strength and not eat any coconut cake :)

legcramps on 08/06/2010:
Hey, it's a good day - awesome!!! Have a really great weekend - hope that PC issue gets resolved soon.

Maria7 on 08/06/2010:
What a BLESSING to have a fruit and veggie on the corner from your house! Wow! I have to drive quite a ways to get to the farmers market (in the next town)...so add in the cost of gas to the cost of what I buy there and it is more expensive than it would be otherwise, but scuppernongs ARE WORTH IT!!!! Wonder why you and I love them SO MUCH??? I look forward to their arrival EVERY YEAR like an excited little kid. Not only do I like the taste and texture of them, to me, they signal the beginning of the arrival of FALL. (Might sound GOOFY, but that's what it always makes me think of, hehehe!!!)! :-) Thing is, I have 2 bushes out back that give out beautiful green leaves but NO SCUPPERNONG GRAPES! I've fertilized them, watered them, and still NO GRAPES. :-( Soooo I just buy the grapes each year.

You are doing real well, real disciplined with your calories, I've noticed. :-)

sweetpea1977 on 08/06/2010:
Man, that dinner does sound good! I will have to check to see if its on their website. I love Cooking Light!!!

selina on 08/06/2010:
I have to check out that scuppernong grapes when I move back to he US - here in Europe we have the Italian grapes that are just out of this world! I just can't stop eating them - the season for the grapes haven't started yet, though...

Good job on the cals!

selina on 08/06/2010:
Thanks for liking my paintings ;)

moogy on 08/06/2010:
I see what you mean about the donuts. That's the way to do it though. Just don't think about it. Have a wonderful weekend.

2luvself on 08/06/2010:
Your comment really woke me up. Thank you for it. I was kinda struggling last night, But I think I can move forward from all the support I have gotten here.

V on 08/06/2010:
Good job on resisting temptation ;)

WI3 on 08/07/2010:
We don't have those grapes here :( I am so bummed! I've been all over looking for them lol. Congrats on the lack of bulge and the knit top! That is hard to do, yay you!!! Have a wonderful day :)

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:
I got some more scuppernongs yesterday...yum. Might should have gotten more as I already had some yesterday and today and don't have much left for tomorrow. Hope you're having a blessed Sunday! :-D

L:  Med. Arby's RB Sandwich, Diet Coke 450

D:  Chicken Guacamole Tostadas!  From Cooking Light Magazine....they were wonderful! 500

S:  Grapes 200 and biscuit w/ jam 200

I am praying that my back hold up after the 45 min bike ride last night.  I can ride longer, but must keep it shorter so that sciatica does not come back!  Pray, please.  My bike rides are very important to me for well-being and peace of mind.  Thanks!

D:  5 triscuit things and grapes  300

D:  (Again) Fried Banana peppers - couldn't resist them! 400

Well, I am just now getting on here to log in the day.  Work very busy today and my work pc has "caught" a virus!  Dang!  I hope they can fix it tomorrow.

B:  2 sm biscuits with jam, coffee 200

L:  Bit of quinoa slaw, squash casserole, turkey and dressing, new potato (this looks like a lot but I ate a quick lunch from the Whole Foods - YUM - hot bar on my way in to the office this afternoon and I only took a spoonful of everything so it actually wasn't much)  300

I resisted key lime pie for a work birthday this afternoon - having a special K protein snack bar instead.  A co-worker also offered me a cupcake with choc icing which I graciously declined!

S:  Smoothie 225

S:  4 triscuit thingys - 150

Subtotal 875 and so far no exercise I got up late this a.m. so must do something before I go to bed.  Probably ET or walk - if it ever cools off - it's VERY hot here today.  My poor flowers were all wilted.  I watered them very well and I hope they come back.

D:  14 Chips and 1/4 C salsa  175

1050 total cals

45 minute bike ride!!

Progress as of today: 9.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

Great job resisting all the sweets today. Good for you!

sweetpea1977 on 08/03/2010:
Good work on avoiding the pie!! And your lunch sounds so satisfying and delicious!

No, I haven't been tested for anemia. They will be doing bloodwork (I think!) next week, so I'll ask her if that is one of the tests they will be running. I dont think I'm taking in enough iron, other than my prenatal vitamin and the occasional bite of red meat. I seem to have adversions to all the other iron rich foods right now. Thanks for worrying about me though, you are so kind!

Now, you be careful if you go walking tonight and please stay hydrated so that you don't wilt. :)

Maria7 on 08/03/2010:
You and I both said no to chocolate today! You with the coworker offering you a cupcake with choc icing and me with my friend wanting to give me a bagful of delicious-looking brownies. WE DONE GOOD! OH, YEAH, OH, YEAH! (I think).

Moody3 on 08/03/2010:
Great day Holly and good for you for resisting that key lime pie and opting for a Speical K bar~Serious dedication!! WTG!

It's so hot and humid here too, thank goodness for my treadmill or I wouldn't be getting any exercise in~There's no way I would get out in this mess and workout~I'd wilt like your flowers in the first 5 minutes!!

Sorry bout the virus in your pc at work...grrrr...hope it gets cleared up quickly~what a pain!

moogy on 08/03/2010:
Oh Well done on resisting the work goodies. Hope the rest of the evening went well.

Yesterday is updated.  Made a peach upside down cake instead of pineapple.  It was wonderful and my first full-fledged dessert (I think) in 2-3 weeks.  I enjoyed it but I didn't feel compelled to eat 3 pieces (like I ususally do!!!).  We went to the play and it was wonderful.  Saw a few people we knew and I came home and read my book until 1:30 this morning.  Got up at 6:30.  Was tired this morning and it didn't wear off so I took a nap - for 2 hours!! this afternoon.  Going to clean the kitchen, finish up some laundry and go for a walk to night.

B:  Hash Browns, 2 biscuits with jam, coffee 400

L:  2 biscuits with jam and grapes - the SCUPPERNONGs are in and they are wonderful.  I look forward to them every year!!   This week we should be getting the Muscadines and I will love those, too!  300

D:  1 BLT and an extra slice of BACON  330

I really haven't eaten that much today  -  but I've enjoyed everything I have eaten all weekend long so I am satisfied.  I may have another piece of peach cake tonight, but there are only two pieces left and I think I should save them for daughter and her boyfriend.........they have gone to visit the grandparents and will be home soon.   Only 1,000 cals so far and I should eat more.  Probably will not be a problem LOL!

S:  Smoothie  185

Total Cals = 1185

Exercise 2 mile walk with husband, d and her boyfriend and dogs!  What a crowd we were walking down the street!

Progress as of today: 9.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

CoverGirl on 08/01/2010:

loveray and I live in two different suburbs of Atlanta and have met up several times since meeting on here. We've had get-togethers with Grumpy and another former DD member known as UNCGrad. Anyway, every time we meet up we talk about organizing a healthy DD retreat weekend with all the members on here. Wouldnt that be fun?!! :)

That peach upside down cake sounds amazing. Currently, my favorite fruit has been peaches so that sounds like the perfect dessert to me!

sweetpea1977 on 08/01/2010:
Glad you like the idea, I'll pass your interest on to loveray. I think it would be so awesome cool to meet up with so many amazing health conscious women. I mean, just imagine all the inspiration we could get from each other? :)

You are talking my language when you say scuppernongs grapes and muscadines grapes! I always like to think that when they come in, fall has begun! They are soooo delicious! Your 1200 cals yesterday looked real good. Your menu today does, too. Your peach cake sounds delicious. Hope you have a real nice evening, Hollybelle.

L:  1 peach, 8 bean and cheese nachos - low fat chips and not too much cheese 300

Tonight we are having BBQ chicken - this instead of ribs!  And I don't know what else......we'll see - vegetables and maybe pineapple upside down cake???  Then we are going to see a friend perform in The Sound of Music at the local Opera House.  Can't wait - it should be good and we'll probably run into lots of people we know......

D:  Sm piece BBQ chicken breast, sm mashed potatos, 1 regular size piece peach upside down cake  550

1200 calories

No exercise except house work :o(

(Healthy Eating and Exercise)
Weight: 168.2

Yesterday was updated and I did fine.  Today I got up and did my Elliptical Trainer time - 20 minutes of Sprint 8 on level 6.  It actually felt good - getting be to less of a "big deal" to do it.  And after only about 4-5 times.  Just goes to show - keep at it and it's gets better, huh?  Food is seeming like an OK thing now and not something to be stressed about. After all, it can't "make" me eat it, can it?  I have a choice!

B:  Coffee, sm serving oatmeal porridge 150

S:  Protein Bar 110

L:  Arby's Med Roast Beef Diet Coke 415

Subtotal 675 Kind of high, but had to run an errand downtown at lunch and Arby's was best option.  Medium fills me up.  I have a peach for snack this afternoon.

Weather finally let up on the heat it's beautiful and I plan to get on my bike this afternoon for a "tour of the neighborhoods".

S:  5 Triscuit Thingys 185

D:  Almost 2 BLTs and a little bit of fresh corn off the cob  575 (the BLTs were made with  35 cal bread, regular mayo, two slices of bacon and homegrown tomatos and lettuce)

Total calories 1435

Exercise 20 minutes of ET in the a.m.+ 30 minute bike ride  in the p.m.  The weather was WONDERFUL - perfect 74 degrees and lower humidity!!  I can't believe it is so nice after having been so rotten for 3 solid weeks!!!

I feel like I have done good things for myself today, but I haven't been tense about it or over the top or anything negative - gee I even had BACON for goodness sake and fast food.  But under 1500 cals and two sessions of moderately strenuous excercise is fine!

Progress as of today: 9.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

Yes, good for you. I missed you too! I don't know why it takes me to be at a really bad place before I react. Wouldn't it be so much easier not to let things go this far? But anyway, i set a primary goal of losing about 10% of my weight, so we will see how that goes. And we'll go from there. xoxo

loveray on 07/30/2010:
awesome, sounds like a plan!! hope that you have a wonderful weekend. xo

legcramps on 07/30/2010:
Yes, we have a few things in common, don't we?! My goal weight is totally realistic for me these days, especially seeing as i'm living for myself and not for the number on the scale. I used to weigh under 130lbs and felt like I was always obsessing over the numbers. These days, i'm more inclined to live life rather than worry about how I look. How I feel is far more important to me. So, 155lbs is my goal because I know i'll be better able to move around at that weight!

sweetpea1977 on 07/30/2010:
So very true! Love that saying!

Your comment made me smile, thanks!! If I am not dreaming about food (most recently, it was frozen yogurt from a place I have yet to try) or the book I am reading, I am dreaming about being at the ocean. I recently started listening to an ocean waves cd (from Target) at bedtime...so relaxing! Thankfully, most of the beach dreams are peaceful ones. :-)

LOL, no I didn't think you were suggesting my weight target should be lower! I guess I was blabbering on about it because I needed to defend it to myself more than anything. Sorry about that!

Maria7 on 07/30/2010:
Well, you enjoy your 'tour of the neighborhoods' and be safe. Sure sounds like more fun than inside exercising! :-)

Maria7 on 07/30/2010:
Update...your tour of the neighborhoods on your bike inspired me to ask Hubby to join me in a neighborhood walk...it was really nice. The humidity was low even though it was very warm, so was very enjoyable and good exercise, too! :-D

Moody3 on 07/30/2010:
Great job on the workout~YES, it DOES go to show, that when you stick to it, it gets easier~It's amazing how quickly endurance builds if you keep at it!

V on 07/30/2010:

Maria7 on 07/29/2010:
Wow, you did REAL WELL yesterday with your calories and exercise!

Good idea about giving to the local food bank.

I was telling Hubby yesterday about how the Bible says in Rev. chap 20, that we will be judged according to our works so I believe that doing things like that to help others is definitely counted as a work. Jesus speaks about giving to help others in Mat. 25:31-46. I believe we all have a responsibility to GIVE to those in need. God has so RICHLY blessed us with so much food, we have to be careful to not overeat it, so why not take some of that food and give to help others who have less so that they can have something to eat, too? :-)

great job with food yesterday, ive really started to do bad again the past few days :( hope u have a good one!

KathyBlue on 07/29/2010:
i never eat oatmeal... I will try it next month! :)

don'tstoptrying on 07/29/2010:
How long has it taken you to lose 10 lbs. I'll round up for u even if u wont'lol. Anyway it seems like my body just wants so bad to hold on to this weight. I eat at least 5 x a day and I'm trying very hard to incorporate more exercise, and stick to mosty whole foods with lower cal. So frustrating. Thanks for ur advice about finding out how others stretch pts. I'll make it a point to ask at my next WW meeting. I'm thinking about visiting one tonight mine is normally on Mon. I forgot to pick up my new log sheet so I can get another tonight if I visit.

You're doing great - nearly 10 lbs lost. Milestone! Keep up the good work and, as always, thanks for your comments, too!

liza36 on 07/29/2010:
Thanks for your suggestions to combat nighttime snacking. I do think if I keep myself busy it would help. Most of the time I'm in front of the TV, and that's just a trigger for eating. Have a great day!

Umpqua on 07/29/2010:
I need to start adding oatmeal back too now them I'm carbing again. I hope you're having a great day!

CoverGirl on 07/29/2010:
mmmm donuts :)those are one of my absolute faves too :)

sweetpea1977 on 07/29/2010:
Oh my gosh, I love fried green tomatoes. Did you make them? I am wondering if there is a healthy recipe since I am the only one who will eat them I make them.

Your oatmeal sounds yummy. I usually eat a lot of oatmeal in the winter months to warm me up, but every now and then I'll make it this time of year.

moogy on 07/29/2010:
Have a wonderful healthy eating day.
