Weight: 116.2

5:15pm - entire pound of strawberries 150.

6pm  green bean chips 3 servings 420, pb 200 on a wrap 150, glass of wine 150

9pm peanut butter 100

1200 total.

i stayed with my folks overnight from last night until around 2:30pm today - did some reading, watched part of the services.  then, i drove straight to get a State Car Inspection and oil change, then went to do a pretty complete shopping at the supermarket so i can cook either tonight or later this weekend. got a lot of fruit. I fasted (for the holiday) till i put my groceries away when i got home to my apt, then gave it up at 5:15 to indulge in lots of fresh strawberries!  i was going to get takeout also, but, decided to just snack around my apt for dinner, not do a whole takeout just because i fasted today.

will do a short upper body workout  before i go to bed.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

snack: almonds?  100

lunch: i brought lunch, not sure i'll want it or eat it all - LOL - ate it all - salad with little dressing 50, palak and a little cheese 250, wrap and ketchup 150 with half burger 100.  550-600

snack: 2 plums 100, seltzer back at apt...doing leg workout now., pb on cracker 100

dinner with parents / dad's 67th bday:

half large chicken breast with skin 300, roasted potatoes 200, salad 100, roasted Brussel sprouts 150, bday chocolate cake 250-300. 1050

2400 total.

Maybe do leg workout tonight before driving to parents, just to get it in...or i'll do it tomorrow.

having dinner with my parents tonight at their place. big deal to leave work, commute home, drive to their house. prefer not to get together during the week, but, this year is the plan for this Jewish holiday / dad's bday. My sister is with her husband's side of family in Hungary so it's basically just me and my folks.

I did laundry last night (since i skipped it on the weekend) and since i wanted it done before going to my parents since i am not even sure what i'm doing about the day on Wednesday that i took off for the holiday but not spending it only at parents...i didn't want to fully plan the day, it will end up being somewhat relaxed

- but no matter what i'll get an oil change and get some more food at supermarket (mostly fruit/veg/wraps) and (possibly) cook at least 1 thing tomorrow.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/08/2019:
That seems like a happy compromise - spending part of Wednesday with the parents.

I like it when I don't eat all of the food I bring to work, because that means that I don't have to think about what to bring the next day - it's already there for me.

Happy birthday, Dad!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/08/2019:
yes! that happens to me with lunch too! i might do takeout instead of eating what i brought, then i don't have to bring much the next day ;) oh yeah.

yes, i'm happy with the schedule with my parents...and it's better to just sleep over after dinner tonight with them and not rush home tonight...

legcramps on 10/08/2019:

grannyannie on 10/08/2019:
How are your legs now?

Horn_of_plenty on 10/08/2019:
They have improved, still healing. i'm still getting a tight left leg calf that even though i roll it, it tightens easily.

my legs are doing a bit better, considering i was on them quite a bit on the weekend.

thanks got asking - i'm trying to get back into my leg strength work with squats / lunges mostly.

grannyannie on 10/09/2019:
Squats and lunges are very effective. I also get on my step and do calf lifts. And do all of them holding dumbbells. At the gym they have a leg press and I really love doing that one.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/09/2019:
yes! i also do calf raises and also a calf stretch. i haven't been as consistent as in the past (but looking to get back to my own consistency)...

a friend of mine showed me some other leg exercises since i don't have a machine at home, they can be done just standing, using the same approach - like the leg curl backwards, just standing it can be done at home as i hold onto something. also, he showed me one that looks like a ballerina when the hold onto a bar and kick backwards with a sraight leg. these are 2 i want to get into my consistent exercise approach also...i have forgotten to do these recently.

thanks for reminding me....

Grannyannie on 10/11/2019:
Ankle weights are very effective as well.

horn_of_plenty on 10/11/2019:
Thanks Annie - lately I am still laying low on doing too much with legs as they are starting to feel better :)

my sleeping was off i think bc i was too warm with the down blanket. also TOM soon, so my leg/thigh has been bothering me the last couple nights in bed.  i'll be fine though :)

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/07/2019:
Certain aches act up for me right before TOM too: hips, knee... Also, I'm more likely to "throw out my back" (which is really a hip misalignment) right before or during TOM as well.

It does pass. Just kind of hard to get through it. And I'm always left with, Why does this happen to me every month??? Hormones are so frustrating - yet it's better to have them than not.

legcramps on 10/07/2019:
TOM for me sometime this week too :( and I feel the same - all kinds of weird things happen when TOM arrives LOL.

grannyannie on 10/08/2019:
I barely remember TOM. It's been 27 years for me but I still understand.

I wanted to be out and about for much of this weekend because this coming week is not a full week for me with the Jewish holiday.  I am not sure what i'll be doing to observe because my parents changed the plans a little - they are going to "break the fast" on Wednesday after fasting the whole day at their home and watching the services on television - with their friends who live about 15 min from them and also 15min longer drive back home for me if i would go.

I am not eager to go to their friends house, although i do like their friends. The reasons are simple - it's only my parents and the other couple.  None of the other couple's own "kids" (around my age) will be there - they are all doing obviously what's "more convenient" for them. so, why am i going out of my way to be out on a work night having dinner with them and coming home later than i want to before work on Thursday?

Also, if i go to my parents on Tuesday night and sleep there till Wednesday and have dinner with the couple - it means that i cannot be productive at all on Wednesday and do any errands / activities with that time off from work.

Lastly, i don't want to fast all day with my parents, then go home either...? who'd want to leave and drive home after fasting all day - just makes for an unproductive day.

I think i'd rather stay home, get oil change, do laundry, supermarket/exercise....just take it easy on Wednesday a day off this time - i will get out of work on Tuesday early and be off Wednesday.

I was going to go to my parents, till they changed the plan to end on Wednesday with dinner at their friend's house which to me is not relaxing and a longer day than expected out and then around an hour drive back home...

basically, i told my parents i'd see them next weekend to celebrate dad's bday. if nobody else  my age is going (not even the couple's own family kids), why should i have to go. ???

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/06/2019:
Ooo, what movie are you going to see? I want to see The Joker and I also want to see Judy, but I can't find anyone who will go with me. Actually, I'm kind of mixed about seeing The Joker, because I've heard it's very dark. It might be a film that I might do better watching in the privacy of my own home....

Oh I totally get why you would not want to go to fast-breaking dinner at your folks' friends' house. And not just because it would be an unproductive day -- in fact, while I completely understand not wanting an unproductive day, it's more about being the only "kid" there. You should not feel obligated to be there, unless you felt that you wanted to be there to support your parents -- which I don't think they need your support. I get it.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/07/2019:
yeah, with the family thing, if were were just going to end the night together (the 3 of us as my sister is away in Hungary!), like we did last week, i'd go...but i'm not too keen on having so much time off work, to go to someone else's house at 6, just to rush home to work in the morning. i don't know, seems like not a good plan....i really wanted it to be fully relaxed time off, but, i don't know. i guess if i want i can stay at their house all day and fast....i don't really know. having a hard time making up my mind.

also, yes, the Joker was extremely Dark! but it is also good. just touches a LOT on mental illness and sickness.

legcramps on 10/07/2019:
Oh, I watched the trailer for the Joker just last night and oh my goodness I thought it was so dark! Can't wait to see it.

I think you should do what works for you. If you didn't take your family's feelings into consideration, what would you decide to do?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/07/2019:
lol, i'd not do anything, literally, and just relax after getting out of work early tomorrow and do laundry then and then exercise and do my own thing Wednesday! hahahaha.

that is NOT the real plan though.

i'll mostly spend it with my parents and prob sleep over from Tues till Wednesday with them. It's not like i have SO MANY PLACES i need to be. i will prob even watch some of the service with them on Wednesday on TV, we'll see. ;)

sometimes it's not good to be alone all the time either.

popcorn 400 and sf drink 50

snacking trying samples all over the food court lol 150

dinner chipotle with a lot more leftover  popcorn 900

I slept in like I usually do on days off. around 9.5-10 hours from around 10pm until 7:30/8am. this amount of sleep is what i love!

When i woke up, i had some kombucha and also did some light abs exercises.

Moving abs and pushups to the morning mostly before work has been awesome and a time-saver for after work and not needing to do any really long workouts anymore in the evenings.

Today i'm off to drive from Queens to Westchester. visiting my friend C there to see a movie (Britney Runs A Marathon). We have been wanting to see the movie since late August, lol, and it's good it's still playing.  This movie theater is in the Palisades Mall...so after it's done, we'll get a snack, visit some other stores & have dinner there at the mall also. I'd like to get frozen yogurt and researched where it is in the mall, lol, so we can go there. and i also looked up a few other things of interest - there's climbing wall but i don't plan to do that today and BUMPER CARS (considering asking if she she wants to) and a baby clothing discount store.

It's a huge mall, if you look it up, Palisades Mall i believe in Westchester or near that area in NY. So many stores, restaurants, activities...endless!

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/05/2019:
Good amount of sleep. Makes all the difference. Enjoy your day and the movie.

horn_of_plenty on 10/05/2019:
Felt nice ! She was tired due to a long night she said but I was actually quite awake until a big dinner :)

Donkey on 10/05/2019:
Have fun today! The movie looks really good - let us know what you think!

When we exercise has a lot to do with getting it done. When I was doing push-ups daily, in the evenings, I would forget, until I got into bed. Well, then I didn't want to have to get up and do them! If you have the time in the morning, go for it. I don't always get up at the same time during the week - I try, but am not always successful - so it's hard to make it a habit.

horn_of_plenty on 10/05/2019:
On Friday I got up too late and that’s why I didn’t get the pushups in that day - it’s nice to get some things out of the way before the day starts.

I agree a lot of my exercise right now is to do it so that I don’t “lose it” - lose the muscles

BearCountryGG on 10/05/2019:
Enjoy the movie and the mall walk!

I slept in a little so i'd like to do my pushups tonight, after work :) and possibly along with some arm weights and then i will not have to do them over the weekend :)

I cannot wait to go home and go to bed early tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!

when i get home, i may be stimulated to workout, if so, i'll have some fruit and try for a workout - rather get it in, before the weekend, than think about it when i wake up tomorrow ;)....will try for this tonight.  but i have been rather sleepy all day at work...the heat is on high but that's because otherwise i was cold LOL....what a complainer.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/04/2019:
for me i cannot lie, i didn't work Monday and the week went fast :)

BearCountryGG on 10/04/2019:
Do you make your own spinach spred or buy it?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/04/2019:
When i write it as the Indian Palak - i buy it at an Indian takeout place that is a few blocks in Manhattan from my work.

i used to work in a fully Indian area and there was TONS of restaurants with it, but now i have limited options around here in NYC Indian isn't that popular.

Where i live in Queens, it isn't popular in my neighborhood, but it's very popular around a half hour drive away there's tons of restaurants too.

Donkey on 10/05/2019:

after work plan: haircut back near me - i was debating growing my hair back out but it's just a waste of my energy as it's really nice to wake up and go - and not worry about a blow dryer or anything else. so, it will stay short, despite not going to be a cop or court officer, LOL.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/03/2019:
Short hair is much easier to take care of.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/03/2019:
yeah, thanks for the extra reminder - i think back to my years of long hair and i just don't have the type of hair that naturally lies well when it's long...so no more long hair for me :)

grannyannie on 10/03/2019:
I've had every style of hair there is I think. Long, short, medium, layered, permed!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/03/2019:
YEAH, this short hair thing simplifies things so much.

i never did a perm, but i did do all the lengths as well as a keratin technique that makes the hair shiny (but it was a process and i got it done cheap and it ruined my hair). therefore, i am 37 and really do think i'm keeping short hair for life.

BearCountryGG on 10/03/2019:
I'm a 70 year old with long, actually very long grey hair. I feel naked without it. My hair grows super fast and always has ( as do my fingernails).....Like I have always said...I do my own thing and don't worry about what others think...I have been to a salon exactly one time in my life. I do cut/trim my own hair....but I believe that we don't owe anyone an explanation about how we choose to wear our hair, what clothes we wear...( of course we could get arested for some things...LOL, so don't do that)...do what makes you happy and rock it!!!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/03/2019:
great advice over here!!!!!

yeah, i shall keep it short as it works for ME :)

legcramps on 10/03/2019:
/| /| what she said :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/03/2019:
yea, i shall do what works for me :)

btw, if i had your hair, i'd keep it longer, you've got that fine, straight, shiny type.

legcramps on 10/03/2019:
Awe, thanks! I like it long too. I think I look terrible with short hair :(

Horn_of_plenty on 10/04/2019:
yeah i love your hair <3 it's easy to manage!

Donkey on 10/04/2019:
Go with what works for you! I personally cannot have short hair because I have too many cowlicks, so my hair is all over the place when it's short. And I don't have the time or skill to style it.

What I DON"T like is when women think that they MUST have a shorter hairstyle because they are of a certain age. What?? FORGET THAT!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/04/2019:
short hair works so well...because it is just SO SIMPLE!

like Legs, you have hair that lies easily straight when long ;) OR, you blow dry it, but it looks easy to dry. mine is NOT easy. and blow drying it sets it off more.

grannyannie on 10/04/2019:
True you don't need short hair because of age. I think that many figure they are tired of dealing with long hair, just say hell with it, and get it chopped.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/04/2019:
that's my reason.

grannyannie on 10/04/2019:
I've had many different lengths and about 3 or 4 years ago I had really long hair. We were in Thailand so I just put it in ponytails, then I realized my hair doesn't look good so I went to a Thai hairdresser and got it cut just above my shoulders. Looked so much better! I'm getting it chin length before we go this year.

How did the leg exercises go last night?

Oh how I hate not having enough vegetables for the afternoon munchies at work. It makes reaching for those potato chips far too easy.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/02/2019:
lately i'm lower on the veg and it's easier to digest and i haven't had stomach issues for awhile...but i do sometimes like a much fuller feeling to get me thru work. but this seems healthier...and i have no stomach issues lately! so it's good, but i'm still not used to eating a higher carb volume at lunch.

I always have to consciously choose a vegetable at meals. Even while being aware of needing my veggies, I still have trouble choosing to eat them. My family has never been much for eating huge amounts of veggies - we were primarily meat and potato people, LOL, but I do love vegetables - I just love meat more!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 10/02/2019:
growing up my parents were very into health and veggies so it's been easy for me...except NOW i will have to make a conscious choice at the supermarket to buy them bc i am no longer doing misfits...i was beginning to get too many of things and it wasn't a balanced order in my opinion.

You just remined me that I have an avocado in the fridfe...do you keep yours out or refrigerated?

Horn_of_plenty on 10/01/2019:
once the avocado is ripe (darkened skin, and you can push it and it will push in a little bit), i move it/them to the fridge until i'm ready to eat them. only put the Ripened avocado in the fridge or it will not ripen correctly. once i eat some, i stick the rest in the fridge and it will only stay for 24hrs more once cut.

if it's not ripe, it can take several days to ripen. i eat them often, so i kinda have a knack and knowing when they are ready...etc.

BearCountryGG on 10/01/2019:
thank you .....I didn't know that about avocados...I have always put them in the fridge and half the time I forget about them.

Nice that you have the day off to celebrate your new year!!!

horn_of_plenty on 09/30/2019:
Yes I took a day to spend mostly with family - but I will get some things done before I go home.

horn_of_plenty on 09/30/2019:
Yes nice to be off :)

legcramps on 09/30/2019:
Hope your day today is fantastic! Good to see you back!

horn_of_plenty on 09/30/2019:
Thanks legs. Sometimes I think I’m wasting my time on here :( that’s what R tells me :(

legcramps on 09/30/2019:
It all depends on what you're hoping to get out of it, I guess! I come here because I like the community, but i'm sure there are millions of message boards/forums that a person could join. I feel a sense of family here though, loyalty. I always come back even if I need to leave for awhile to re-group :)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/30/2019:
i like to come here, i like the familiarity we all share. i just do a lot of things that are not for profit / career growth, but that i like to take part in, like this.

i'm glad there are others in this group that are working day to day...and that it's a mix of us here. i do like the support.

Happy New Year!

I'm sorry to hear that Ricky thinks your time spent here is wasted. :-( I like reading your posts - so your entries are never "time wasted" to me. However, if you find that posting here is not helpful, then that's different.

I hope you will continue to post.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/30/2019:
thanks for the happy new year! i wrote more to legs, above, it's a great group here and even better that we are a mixed group. i may have to pull back a little from coming on so often or writing so much, but i'm glad to have the support and support others here. it's just too bad that these types of involvements are helpful mentally, but do nothing to help us financially...not that i ever cared, it's just an obvious logical statement. money isn't everything, and i never wanted anything of the sort from the group...but with my career stress, R mentinoed it's not helping me, only reasnon he knows is because sometimes when i'm hanging with him i tell him i'm going on here to write what i ate or that i'm commenting ;)

Well, this is how I see it: Diet Diaries is a LOT cheaper than therapy - so in a way, you ARE saving HUGE money! (ha ha ha ha ha) Not that you need therapy - I'm saying, even preventatively, DD is a great way to unload and sort things out. And it's FREE!

One thing I have been wanting to mention: You were kind of down on yourself, for having a lot of education that you are not using for a career. I get what you're saying, but I am also a firm believe that education for learning's sake - and not for a career - is a noble thing too.

One of my friends from high school, went to college and got a degree in Early Childhood Education. Since then, she's earned several more degrees in math and science. What is her career? She's an artist living in England!

My point is: I think it's great that you have all of this education. OK, so careers didn't come out of any of them - yet - but so what? It's made you a smarter, wiser person. That is to say, you know more now than you did before you had your degrees. I hope that if you love to learn, that you will continue to do so.

(I once had a secret ambition to learn nursing, but around here, they won't let you enter a nursing program unless you do plan to use it as a career, unfortunately.)

i def value my education though i do admit to not always studying or taking my potential as far as i could have gone. i enjoyed learning a little bit about xray and observing doctors at the hospital. i have def seen a lot. at least i have had those opportunities.

part of the reason for the career issue is i did NOT push myself enough. if you were my mom...oh boy...you'd be cringing and upset!

anyways, i have had many opportunities and it seems i will be ok for awhile still. i will def be looking into the next court exam for the court assistant (though it will not come out again for 2-3 years) which is kinda good timing as the project i am on will take around 1-2 years anyways. and with that test, there's no age limit or fitness test.

too bad about the court officer one, though it's obvious i had to let it go.

you are right about this being a therapy site and it sure does help.

And I see what Ricky is saying to you about your time here. Very much a male-oriented comment. He sees that you are stressed about job security, finances, etc. So why would you spend time, effort, and energy that isn't helping you reach that goal? I get it. He's not hating on DD, but rather trying to help you find a solution, I think.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/01/2019:
yes, if i were successful and on here, Ricky prob wouldn't have been able to mention it like he does bc of my other predicaments. LOL true.
