24.50 January "Sunshine Hours" (per Donkey, love the sound of it!)

Lookahead...

I'm reading Orwell's  Homage to Catalonia, based on the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939...i may stop reading it when the course begins Monday.

Look for 2nd set of iphone headphone adapters that i have...maybe with my old work stuff at home or in the desk drawer at my home...

Sunday, March 7th 9:30AM Check in - Bring one of my older GP's to the exotic vet shop around 45 min away (most shops refuse to see GP's I have learned).  He continues to have sores/hair loss on his fur despite using OTC spray on him. :(

Monday, March 8th: Bankruptcy Course Begins, i think it's 7 weeks but not sure, need to check that.

Cooking: TBD...
  • use up my riced cauliflower & maybe cook up the "fried cauliflower rice" using 1 batch of the frozen riced cauliflower ...to be eaten at work this week along with the mashed potatoes and leftover meat in the freezer! :)...TBD...
  • cook up homemade mashed potatoes using all 4 potatoes i've had in the apt for weeks!...TBD...really hope to do this soon, even Friday night :)

Upper/Lower Body Workout tonight but will make it only upper if i do not feel like lower tonight; no extra cardio today beyond typical commute.

Donkey on 03/04/2021:
You can buy a night guard (the "retainer" you talk about) at the local pharmacy. I paid a dentist $600+ about 25 years ago to make me a custom made night-guard. My daughter has a similar problem with night-grinding and spent maybe $25-$30 for her night guard from Walmart.

Your Saturday volunteering sounds wonderful!!! I hope you will let us know how it goes.

And I'm so sorry to hear about your GP. Is this Ricky that's having the problems? I hope that you get some answers or help from the pet store.

I am getting to the point where I NEED to call the dentist for an appointment. Also, I need to call my doctor's office and see if they are having annual physicals. I am overdue - but in no big hurry or need of - for annual bloodwork. Also, the doctor wanted me to have a mammogram, but then COVID hit and I never did it. So I would need a new doctor's order for one.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
I will try the local pharmacy night guard, thank you for telling me!!!!

Yes, very looking forward to saturday and i was glad the vet was open sunday so i wouldn't have to do too much driving all in the same day after a workout of volunteering :)

Yes, it's Ricky. still not doing great. :( maybe they'll give me oral medicine...I will keep you updated.

I was 3 prs of pants last night, worked out well :) delicate cycle for my dress pants..

I'm overdue for a gyn...I'll wait as long as possible on that...i'm 38, so i figure there's a little wiggle room to skipping an appt or two (for a year or two). luckily i had my regular physical last year, in MARCH, right before lockdown!

Good luck making your appts...

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
* I washed ...not I was

bearcountrygg on 03/04/2021:
Covid restrictions sure messed up a lot of peoples and pets care.......I need to get into a dentist too.....

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
I hope you can go to the dentist when you feel comfortable about going xoxo

grannyannie on 03/04/2021:
Have you been told you have TMJ Disorder (temporal mandibular joint)? I had that decades ago but it was form clenching my job a lot during a stressful period. I couldn't afford any treatment then but when I realized it was clenching my jaw that did it, I was more conscious of it and stopped it. My jaw would actually get stuck so I'd have to yank it open!

My sister grinds her teeth at night and she wears a retainer to stop it.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
when i sleep, i realize my jaw on the right side that rests on the pillow gets totally out of line...if you look that up, it's a thing that can happen...

i am going to try a cheap retainer from amazon that has good reviews...no diagnosis, but constant clicking and now it just is much worse, and the sound that i hear is that the jaw on the right side is completely not aligned and constant difficulty opening mouth fully without some difficulty...

oh, like you said, it's the problem with the joint, like you said, on one side, the right side.

yes, same problem as you, very stuck.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
maybe i'll wear the retainer somewhat at work as well?

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
what are your tips for me?

grannyannie on 03/04/2021:
Mine wasn't from sleeping on it although once I had TMJ I'd wake up and have to yank it open. My cause was clenching my jaw during the day so I just became aware when I was doing it and I stopped.

grannyannie on 03/04/2021:
I think a retainer at night is what you need.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
ok, i'll try it :)

Maria7 on 03/04/2021:
Looks like you have a busy weekend ahead planned.

Horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
I am looking forward to activities that are a change of pace...if my gp gets better i'll skip the vet, but, it looks like i should just bring him! :)

Jacky82020 on 03/03/2021:
Dang, girl, you are so much like my dear old Mom. She keeps this daily running list. It’s on a big whiteboard in the kitchen. Lists her books, her chores, donating & dry cleaning clothes, cooking & shopping. And people to call, different ones everyday, the same every week. Even a distant cousin in Italy! She used to take the occasional class as well, but not for the last year. Her most recent was on stained glass, making pretty little things. She’s talking about learning Italian online now, but has never been much for computers.

She’s been keeping in touch (phone) more because of covid & I think it’s great for all parties, except sometimes I’m not up to it. A running joke is for my sisters to erase my time slot. LOL

horn_of_plenty on 03/03/2021:
i LOVE how she does it on a whiteboard, that would totally be me!

also, i would also be the daughter like you, who tries to get their slot erased each week when she finds she doesn't want to chat....oh yes....that IS ME after work, daily, with my family!

grannyannie on 03/03/2021:
You are sooooo organised. I am a list maker and keep lots of spreadsheets for different things - calories, shopping lists.

Mmm...grilled cheese!

horn_of_plenty on 03/03/2021:
maybe the grilled cheese, maybe a change my mind AGAIN!

lists and organizing to me is fun but also productive...i doubt i'd remember everything without lists...mostly here...i am really used to these lists! :)

sounds like you are quite organized, yourself! and you are here, too, when you report everything (like chores, food, exercises, etc).

Maria7 on 03/03/2021:
So, how did you store your fresh potatoes for weeks? Did you keep them in or out of the refrigerator? I am curious, cause I am doing an experiment of instead of keeping mine in the refrigerator, I am now storing them in big brown paper bags in a cool room and that is working out very well.

horn_of_plenty on 03/03/2021:
my parents always stored them in a cool, dark space.

I stored mine out of the fridge, on a lower shelf in the kitchen. they grew some spuds, so i'll take those off and the potatoes are still ok for cooked mashed potatoes. they are very old indeed.

horn_of_plenty on 03/03/2021:
possibly over two months.

grannyannie on 03/03/2021:
Re your book on Catalonia.....When I go on Scottish independence marches there are always lots of Catalan flags as well.

Husband read that book back in school. He loves Spain and Catalonia.

bearcountrygg on 03/03/2021:
Prices for everything here are way up too....food and gas are climbing fast.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
it's like, what!?

Jacky82020 on 03/03/2021:
HOP! LOL!

Jacky82020 on 03/03/2021:
I have never kept potatoes, garlic or onions in the fridge. All can easily last until they’re gone. A good month or so, idk.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
always kept the potatoes out; but always keep the garlic and onions in!

grannyannie on 03/04/2021:
We keep potatoes in the drawer in the fridge because it's best to keep them in the dark and I don't have another spot. Garlic and onions always out of fridge.

horn_of_plenty on 03/04/2021:
oh always did garlic and onions in the fridge!...hmmm

1 choc near end of workout...

2150 cals, seems fine to me!

i think i've gained a couple lbs, may need to watch calories, but, not totally worried just yet.

Changed my mind for now on the book / blog. I simply do not have the time to commit. Aside from you all, it seems there are very few regular folks interested. maybe it's something for the future, but my time is limited for now.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Donkey on 03/02/2021:
Indeed! And if you start up with another paralegal course, you'll have less time than ever to devote to a separate project. I was aware of this. But now you have the idea, so you can always revisit it at a later point in time. It would really be a project for yourself, and if others benefit, then great, but if not, you've done something for YOU :-)

You did very well with your "sunshine hours" for the month of February, especially considering that February is a shorter month.

horn_of_plenty on 03/02/2021:
in fact, the Bankruptcy Course is starting this coming Monday & i'm looking forward to it!! :)

Donkey on 03/02/2021:
^^^I'm so excited for you. I hope you enjoy it!

horn_of_plenty on 03/02/2021:
Thank you Donkey, I'll try to take what i can from it to enlighten myself just about what it means really to File for Bankruptcy and just to have more information about it than i did before taking it :) something to read and be constructive about along my commute, too :)

Maria7 on 03/02/2021:
I know what you mean. There are always things to do but we also have to take into account our energy level and most of all, I current commitments that require a lot of energy, too.

horn_of_plenty on 03/02/2021:
yeah...i like my sleep so i'm not gonna lose sleep over those other activities and doing them...and i like to read...and i just see it as not something to include in my life now....or maybe not at all ever. we'll see. Cheers.

grannyannie on 03/02/2021:

I'm thinking to do that youtube channel, which is not going to be successful right off the bat, but can get there, maybe (or not but at least i tried...)

I'm reading my next Orwell novel, it's nonfiction too, called Homage to Catalonia, based on the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939...even the intro by another author is written well! good book already!

look for 2nd set of iphone headphone adapters that i have...maybe with my old work stuff at home or in the desk drawer at my home...

walk home, adding a mile to commute, hoping it helps me with some bathroom issues. sorry, TMI!

Monday Eats:

1/8 big slice of pie that i made pumpkin brownie 400, coffee 50.

snacks: one candy...time went by fast this AM 50

lunch: cauliflower rice small box frozen already in a cheese sauce ate half 50, to be had with leftover rice 150 and some corned beef 200. small portions...400.

snacks: choc 150

dinner: tbd picked up cheap chinese tofu vegetable 200, chinese chips 150, wanton soup 250...600, cabbage and pork 200...800...i think that's it...

1850

thinking to do some sorta youtube channel called "Calorie Queen" or something...ideas are welcome here...where i rant off what i ate for the day...several times a week...and soon to answer questions to viewers...it's an idea that came to mind after reading your comments. or like "Calorific,"  "JacKcal"...but honestly, i do not think i have the energy to do this...along with work....i have to give it a tiny bit more thought.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Donkey on 03/01/2021:
How did the pumpkin brownie pie turn out? I was picturing more of a pumpkin pie thing, but it's actually more like a brownie pie thing, with pumpkin in it. Sounds delicious - but did it turn out to your liking?

New week, new month!

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
for breakfast, it tasted good because when you eat first thing in the morning everything tastes sweet...it was good for breakfast. i'm not sure if the regular person on the street would like it, though...

omg, happy MARCH...we are so close to SPRING!

Donkey on 03/01/2021:
I write this comment separately in case you want it deleted. My suggestion -which feel free to reject or delete this (or ask me to delete) - is "Jackie Chat". You could do short vlogs (video blogs) on weight training techniques, recipes, diet/nutrition, diet/cooking, diet/psychological, things that you've found helpful in cooking, coping, dieting, working out, but even things like city life, single life, piggies, volunteering, etc. Sort of along the lines of the FB videos you've done, but maybe just a little longer.

IDK sounds like a fun little project. I'm not very versed on YouTube and making videos, although if Associate Attorney can do videos on his phone, surely it's not all THAT complicated, since he's very technologically challenged. (I suspect his teenage daughter helped get him set up with a video editing app.)

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
i will think of more, i do like how my name is in it...will have to think more about it...i like how you are mentioning many aspects of life...i will have to copy and paste your post here...speaking of which i need to go back and copy paste your comments on the courses whcih i don't think i ever did...good i could go back in time here...and find them! :)

i will have to see, not really a public speaker, but maybe i need to get over that...! will be thinking about this...

bearcountrygg on 03/01/2021:
You Tube channel may be a very good idea....if you get enough subscribers it could become monetized.

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
would be cool, but i guess i'll have to understand it will prob not get $, and it's one in a million that does ;)

will work on thinking about it, yes...

grannyannie on 03/01/2021:
The pie sounds yummy.

Everybody makes youtube videos now. You could do it! Lots of good tips. You could do tips on maintenance which you have definitely done.

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
pie was good for breakfast, extremely filling...

grannyannie on 03/01/2021:
Donkey, I've got youtube videos - easy to do and upload. Mine are all personal though - travel videos, bike rides, etc.

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
love that you have ventured in the youtube world, what inspiration to us! (and personally to me!)

bearcountrygg on 03/01/2021:
I agree...it can cover many different topics in 1 account......

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
that is a good idea to have leeway over many topics over time..

legcramps on 03/01/2021:
I too have a couple of videos i've done which are also personal; it's not difficult. The editing might be a bit time consuming, but i'm sure once you get into the routine of it that will come easy to you! Very exciting!

coffee&calories on 03/01/2021:
One thing I wanted to mention in regards to you saying above that you’re not really a fan of public speaking...in terms of YouTube you really don’t have to be! One channel I watch, the girl has pretty severe anxiety, but she says making videos is okay with her, because she’s just talking into a camera by herself. Although, I do totally understand not wanting to be putting yourself on the internet, if that bothers you. A different channel I watched, the woman actually hid her face and made the voice speeded up. Eventually she did show it. Just some quick thoughts on the matter!

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
oh wow, never would have expected that...i hope it's easy to record videos, etc., on youtube.

i think i do like the name JacKcal

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
JacKcalChats

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
but the name, it sounds masculine...any idea how to make is sound femeine? Miss JacKalChats ?

horn_of_plenty on 03/01/2021:
I meant Miss JacKcalChats

Donkey on 03/02/2021:
Isn't Jackal another word for donkey?

Catching up on sleep!!! A worthwhile weekend activity!

Horn_of_plenty on 02/27/2021:
i'd say so!!! :)

grannyannie on 02/27/2021:
Good sleep!!

Horn_of_plenty on 02/27/2021:
i think it's ok...some people say "how can you sleep so long," but, after being out of work for 10 months and continuously sleeping 10hrs per night, i chalk it up to my body liking long sleeps!

Jacky82020 on 02/27/2021:
Good got you getting those taxes done.

Watching Seth Myers, recorded last night. Says Trump paid $750 in 2016 & 2017. Geez! Crook!

Horn_of_plenty on 02/27/2021:
yeah...i cannot believe that WE won't be able to see his taxes!

coffee&calories on 02/28/2021:
Hey HOP :) you give off such a calmness and serenity about food..don’t fight or struggle with it like I do...How do you manage to never have a day where things are stressful or too many yummy things are present or you’re eating at your parents and just forget about counting and eat way too much (examples of things that derail me). You seem to have discovered something really unique. Most people can’t do it. You should really write a book lol. I’d buy it :-)

Donkey on 02/28/2021:
^Adding to Coffee's question/request, I am wondering, do you eat and then count calories? Or do you think that, most of the time, you're keeping calories in your mind as you serve yourself?

She asks a very good question. I feel like if you had an online video blog or podcast or YouTube, I'd watch it.

coffee&calories on 02/28/2021:
Yes Donkey exactly! I’m kind of addicted to diet type YouTube videos, but I’ve never come across a channel that would use calorie counting in such a sustained, easy going, livable way. It’s either too extreme, like only perfect clean eating or intuitive eating, or the same calorie deficit talk over and over. All of that is appropriate in its own right, but never seems to help me. Even when I was doing great with my weight, I still had days of overeating and off track/bingy behaviour. I’m really truly interested how some people stop doing that completely

horn_of_plenty on 02/28/2021:
I hope to comment back to you in one of my own entries this week ....so many good points to consider. Also, you are a very good writer.

thinkpositive on 02/28/2021:
Lucky to be able to sleep late. That’s my dream!

Fri:

1 mi cardio extra on commute home :) - i may try to do more, but my shoes don't offer the best support, so it depends how i feel, no need to overdo.

takeout thai for dinner, order at 3:30 so it stays warm during the commute home :)...instead of ordering two meals as i have done in the past, i'll just order one meal (i used to love to order multiples to have to eat all weekend  or all week...trying to stop doing that as well as cook a couple things myself this weekend..!)

Eats:
7:45-8pm banana and coffee 150
wrap with ricotta 220
almost 10am snack: almonds, tiny packaged cinnamon bun 200.

lunch: an indian paneer palak packet 260-300 that just needs heating up with some leftover white rice 200...if it tastes ok, and i have leftovers, i'll freeze them at work to eat again - bc i have two servings of the rice as well as the spinach thing with me.....500..

after lunch snacks: chocolates, small clementine 100; diet pepsi, granola bar 120, 1 choc 40

dinner 2 smallish chicken dumplings that were really good 200, tons of veggies in a yellow curry (didn't love the quality of veggies or taste of the sauce, was a different restaurant in nyc near my work) 200, dried jackfruit no sugar added 100...500

grannyannie on 02/26/2021:
We are absolutely drowning with headphones, adapters, chargers, cords of every kind! Easy to lose.

horn_of_plenty on 02/26/2021:
reason is i want to keep one pair of headphones at work; and one in my jacket pocket and not at work... :)

yes, easy to replace cords, loose extras...ugh...seems wasteful with all these cords/garbage laying around.

grannyannie on 02/26/2021:
Your mention of panang curry made me want some. Haven't had any for a while so hubby is making some tomorrow.

horn_of_plenty on 02/26/2021:
enjoy...i'll be ordering the curry for dinner.

Donkey on 02/26/2021:
You can wear headphones at work? Don't you need to answer the phones?

horn_of_plenty on 02/26/2021:
if i'm at my desk, i can still prob hear the phone even with headphones and other people in the room may say something about my phone or look at me if i didn't answer...

but if i'm ALONE working, and not sitting at my desk, i'll just listen to my phone music without the headphones, so i don't miss any sounds or calls in the office (when alone).

horn_of_plenty on 02/26/2021:
but in general, i do not really have many clients like is your case, it's all business, not client based, and i do not make hardly any calls all day aside from within company calls (very few) or with other subcontractors, again very few calls. it's not like your work at all...

Donkey on 02/27/2021:
I'm finding it hard to imagine a business that isn't client-based. (ha ha ha) How different my work life would be!

Jacky82020 on 02/25/2021:
I may for a diversion.

Trading has become very intense lately. Held the line over a hour last night to talk to TD guy. Asked about day trading rules & he said I had to apply for a margin account. Did this AM & instantly approved. Yay!

Donkey on 02/25/2021:
What do you think is the main cause of your fatigue? Stress? Impending TOM?

horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2021:
I think i really like to sleep for longer periods of time...like i was when i wasn't working...i think i'm one of those semi long-sleepers.

so just less sleep and getting up earlier.....i have always gotten this way...it could also be mental like the week ending is contributing to me feeling tired just because it's late in the week, but, i plan to def sleep in on Saturday!!

horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2021:
I appreciate you asking, i've had this problem for years and years...and when i was a teacher, i always felt tired too a lot of the time bc i was also going to school getting my masters and playing in late night rehearsals....

Did your insurance stuff come in?

Do I understand correctly that you stopped drinking kombucha?

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
with insurance, i didn't open the letter yet and i'm nervous it's the same as the last mailing at not changed...i have to wait to check it when it's not as quiet in the office so people don't hear me opening my mail...

next, i AM STILL drinking kombucha, yes. i have been having some in the morning (but only a few sips today as i ran out the door quickly but wanting some sweet liquid in my mouth before my commute so i took a few sips before heading out...and i have also been having some at night if i know i didn't have much in the AM...def trying not to overdo the kombucha, but i have been listing it still in a lot of my entries, unless i forget to.

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
not ready to break the kombucha habit...i ordered so much last month that i still have a week's worth left this month...hoping to order again bc it was both the cheapest and most convenient option ! :) have a good day, talk soon!

bearcountrygg on 02/24/2021:
I got some marked down valentines candy and was immediately sorry....now I'm craving it...and D won't touch it.

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
LOL...maybe do what Jacky does...put them in freezer or stick them in a place that's hard to get to, like a garage...you can do thiss!!!!

and it's so good you paid marked down prices...ty for the reminder to search for it today!

grannyannie on 02/24/2021:
Husband asked if I wanted some nice chocolates for my birthday and I said yes but only if he helps me eat them. So it's early but the box has been opened. 85 cals per piece (2 bites each). They are too yummy! But thankfully hubby hid them and is rationing them. Otherwise, I would eat the entire box!

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
so, share with us a link to them so we can "eat with our eyes"

grannyannie on 02/24/2021:

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
God, Taxes! Will begin Monday.

Only thing in today’s USPS alert is a county tax bill. 4K. Expect a bigger one from the school district in July. Paid much lower taxes in California. Stable too. Here they go up every year.

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
ugh 4k...hating i have to release 4k of my savings this year! uhhhhh!

bearcountrygg on 02/24/2021:
Glad you got your paperwork squared away.

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
ME TOO...i really expected it to take longer with more challenges. but it worked out!

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
The only McDonald’s food I can eat is from the breakfast menu. The new cinnamon bun is to die for. Probably a good 450 Cals, not sure. Share with the husband .

Found their chicken McNuggets fake & crappy

Horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
for some reason, i love their nuggets. BK has better fries, but i like how mcdonalds fries are skinny and prob slightly lower cal...i find BK fries greasier.

that cinnamon bun would be good if i could share with someone! great idea on sharing.

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
Tried the chicken fingers at one, can’t remember which, but GROSS! Seems to me , the thinner fries would have more surface area & thus more grease. We could probably compare by weight online.

Donkey on 02/24/2021:
I thought that the (return to) kombucha would help your bathroom issues - which is why I thought you had stopped drinking it. I see though that it's not. Maybe once you're REALLY used to the job, things will change and your GI will learn to relax a little.

Nice Lady has a LOT of mind-body issues when it comes to stress/anxiety and her GI system. Even if we talk it out logically, if she says she's got it handled, her body just reacts a certain way when she's ... not tranquil.

horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2021:
this week i was able to poop a little after work on both monday and tuesday and that made me happy.

horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2021:

snack: if necessary - granola bar 150

lunch: good leftovers tbd rice 250?, meatloaf 250?, cooked veggies 100 - slightly boring veggies but should be pretty tasty with everything alse going on....maybe step out and buy a diet coke, but, the forecast shows 100% rain...but i don't see it!?...diet coke was good, i swear i may just finish the 2.5 serving bottle this afternoon, but we'll see...650 def not more.

snack: reeces dark choc pb 150

1400.....

dinner: tbd, thinking to have more salad (iceberg and add a little cilantro in also for taste, oil, spices), grilled cheese & chicken bacon...maybe half a sandwich as the bread is thick and adds up to 300 calories once i add a tiny bit of butter...so, maybe half the sandwich, not sure.  my own salad (will eat a big one, have tons of shredded / bagged iceburg lettuce varieties) with mcdonalds..$2 for 4 nuggets with free medium fries so i'll eat some of them and save some in the fridge to heat up another day...with these low prices, mcD's will come up weekly probably. salad with olive oil 100, fries 250, nuggets 200. 550-600. some kombucha?

2 choc towards end of workout that did last awhile bc i took too many breaks, but at least i am more relaxed and awake tonight than last night and even all day today :)
