5pm early healthy dinner: fish cake over slaw salad, one of the meals i ordered to cook at home :) was very good. the cucumbers spoiled bc i waited too long, so i replaced the cucumbers with small green peppers and radishes from the farm from when i was volunteering a week ago! :) 600  (healthy protein, some olive oil, healthy veggies...felt good to eat this because i haven't been eating very healthy food the past couple weeks).  i have a lot of leftovers, too :) 3 more fish cakes!  dessert is small ice cream 100

 I may skip weight lifting until Tomorrow ...we'll see....but that's not smart, because i will be TIRED after volunteering for four hours straight, on my feet....

starting to crave cookies....will have to purchase something at supermarket soon, along with more seltzer....and hopefully i get some veggies from the farm on Sunday when i volunteer again - may need to supplement and actually buy some at the supermarket, we'll see based on what happens with the farm on Sunday when i go back :)


Tomorrow I volunteer for 4 hours at local food pantry prep / food prep...and now i have good food at home to come home to :)

Sunday I'm going to Farm...hopefully get some free veggies out of it....finally using up all my farm veggies in the next few days ;)

Monday is quiet...my new ADR (paralegal) class starts on Monday though! i have finished almost 2 of the 7 chapters of reading - i will be starting (and possibly finishing) at least one week of the 7 week course on Monday!

I have an interview (connections) Tuesday for a possiblle real job... i'm really thankful for it, i'm thinking it's going to work out, based on the conversation on i had with someone...but, you never know. i'm not sure exactly who will be at the interview, but, i'll  come prepared and dressed appropriately. will take public transportation there and get back into commuting....

Tilapia was a very common fish to eat in Uganda. I never tried it though, but should have.

yes - i could have possibly volunteered a bit earlier like in the summer, instead of only working at the farm...but, now i know there's a lot of possibilities for volunteering and close to me. ...

I'm not needy like the people we are packing food for...and for that i am glad i can do something to help, so yes volunteering is soooo wonderful like you say!

Tilapia is very healthy, light, white fish. healthy. i'm so glad i have some extra patties to eat the next couple days. need more health in my diet. too much junk lately !

Did you get to your weights last night? Sadly, I looked at mine, thought of you, and silently apologized to you for not joining you. I was just done with the day.

I'm so glad that you have found another volunteering opportunity, and how impactful your contribution is. Not that the farm isn't meaningful or impactful - because I wholeheartedly believe that it is (I'm beginning to love your farm) - but working at a food pantry really makes an immediate impact to those who are suffering.

Good luck with your interview! Connections or not, every job interview is totally worth the experience.

i actually did do weights, knowing it wouldn't be good to do it today after volunteering (so glad they are done!)...

Food pantry i hope to do, when i have time (when i go back to work, i will not be wanting to do it often)...so maybe it will happen when i am more free, certain times of the year only...we'll see.

the food pantry was AMAZING. the workers were HARD CORE. i was the weak one! ha! GREAT EXPERIENCE.

former coworker called late in the morning - there's a position open in a queens contracting company (electric) in union...excellent opportunity for me to apply...i did...we shall see...this would be good...


The best thing I could have done is to have signed up to be part of this wonderful organization of volunteers: New York Cares. Today I worked with another group of amazing folks from all places (mostly Queens/Manhattan) /ages/ethnicities (just wonderful) to pack up food for the needy / homebound.  It was in an area called Long Island City which is in Queens (not Long Island haha) and very close to NYC. The traffic was HORENDOUS...and took an hour to get there (no traffic takes 15-20min) and parking was terrble...but the experience was GREAT!   

so, i'll try to see about volunteering in other closer areas to me / use public transportation / get back into the swing of being a public transportation commuter...all good things to do  before I probably go back to work (November?).  No, i don't have a job lined up - but, i am thinking something is going to work out before I lose my health insurance / unemployment. It's going to work out, i'm actually not too worried at this moment in time.

It was packing food / measuring into smaller bagged servings...standing up for around 3 hours...which is better than me sitting on a couch all morning. much better.

I signed up to volunteer again, Saturday morning, closer to my neighborhood (much closer).

volunteering was good, lost some energy once i got home, but, this is good i'm getting up and being more active! :) thank you.

where i was today was not in NYC - Manhattan. It was in Long Island City which is still Queens, one of the boroughs of NYC but not Manhattan. LIC is still slightly less crazy / crowded than NYC. but the parking - blows!

I really should not have driven today bc the traffic at the time i went was just terrible. On Saturday, I will prob take a local bus to another closer area in queens with bad parking as well...no need to get frustated finding a spot when i can take a bus (Saturday!)

but driving into the city, especially now with covid and more traffic, is not usually worth it...unless you want to blow your money on a parking spot....driving into the city should be done sparsly! :)

today i got lucky: found a metered spot after prob searching for 15 minutes...it only cost $5 to park instead of $15-$20 in a garage, thank gosh

I would be a total wreck driving in a city now. I haven't done it for so long. When I go into the city - Glasgow - I park in town at the ferry, take ferry, then train right into the centre of the city. No stress. Costs a fortune to park there, plus taking your car on the ferry.

OMG I'd give anything to be able to do a day trip to Glasgow...but, Covid.

Good Morning.

I've been productive with phone calls / finishing up some organizing. slept in till 9am but overall feeling good today.

I will call a lawyer who interviewed me a week ago...see where he is at in terms of hiring...DONE...he said he's call me, LOL.

Weather is great, I would like to head outside for a walk to pick up a battery for the smoke detector at dollar store. DONE

applied to a few jobs...DONE

6-7:30pm later (late afternoon?) is also weights for upper body. DONE!

I am reading my book for ADR (paralegal) DONE for today

studying on my app for the PM (project manager) test...tonight DONE!

I was going to cook another meal, but i see that as possibly happening tomorrow instead of today :)

well, another exciting, good thing i'll be doing is bagging food to be delivered to the needy by volunteering at a food pantry site tomorrow morning until noon :) ...feels good to do good!

plan to volunteer at least 1x a week with the food pantry / NY Cares foundation because there's tons of volunteer opportunities they have lined up online! :)


breakfast: change of pace - the noodle dish i made last night with some walnuts / cheese in it - small amount 400, coffee 50.

6 Advanced Topics - in the process of registering / choosing classes and making sure i get refunded for dropping the course i was going to take in January and instead taking it with these courses for a combined Advanced Certificiate (i admit it's not going to help much as jobs require EXPERIENCE, but, it can help if i am able to get myself into either NYC or NYS Law for future.

below is not the exact order i'm choosing to take them, except for ADR, which i will take starting in 5 days...

1- Alternative Dispute Resolution (Amicable Dispute Resolution) - my interest, related to how my union resolves a lot of conflicts for it's workers so i feel it's sort of related to my job now...and i already had the book because i prepurchased it thinking i'd only take a course on Alternative Dispute resolution, but I realize that combining studies here with the topics below is more helpful to me....taking this one NOW

2- Business Law

3- Bankruptcy Law - job market is good - i see lots

4- Real Property Law

5- Estate Planning - job market is good - i see some

6- Family Law - job market

Good Morning, I slept in as usual, but i feel good and will try to study and read throughout most of today.  It's a rainy day, so, it's now noon and there's not much else i need to do today besides stay home and read/study :) maybe cook, too :)

How’s the poison ivy? I picked up a contact dermatitis a while back from the little dogs. No idea what they encountered in the backyard. OTC creams worthless, but PCP prescribed a strong corticosteroid. Worked!

that's correct, nothing really helped the poison ivy much except TIME. i did use OTC benedryl spray and also Bactine which is also a cleanser that gets rid of many germs which is good for preventing infection from all my mostly previous scratching.

i made a decision to try to make it thru the poison ivy without a dr visit for rX and i made it thru...it's FINALLY starting to itch a bit less compared to previous days. i've had it since last tuesday and it got worse for a few days...finally it's getting better / less itch since this AM. the skin still needs to heal but i'm so glad it's not getting any worse!!

steroids seem the only REAL relief, according to the internet!

There are the 6 topics i've chosen (out of about 15 offered) for my Advanced Paralegal Certificate which I will take over the course of this entire year, October 2020 thru October 2021. 

It's $400 per course. (def cheaper than college, but pricey). I've decided on topics that interest me (like the Victim Advocacy) but mostly the topics are in the most common job areas i've seen advertised on Linked in for Paralegals.  I will be paying for these courses with money I have saved up that I do not mind reaching into for furthering my education and learning new things (that hopefully will help me in the future, if not now.).  I certainly plan to apply to work in the New York State courts when those options come up in the next several years (they come up every 4-6 years and right now it seems the ability for me to apply will come up around the year 2022).  Last few years i was so set on being a court officer, i didn't realize there were other jobs I could have applied for...and been in the running to have...there were previous tests i missed out on for court jobs (not court officer) that are great government jobs - tests i missed came out in 2017 and 2019...ah well....i have my future chances. :)..there is also a New York City test i just took in September for Paralegal Aide position...i may take that if/when that oppotunity to begin / work in that nature comes up (i already took that test this past September online..)

I def have poison ivy. i did scratch earlier this week, so i def made it worse than it had to be...it's my first time with poison ivy.  It takes up to 3 weeks to heal, i'm trying to just deal with it...not really wanting to go out to a dr today...i feel i already made it through a week - so it should be much better in another week?!

doing more laundry, re-washing my things again...

happy to be home today. 

doing reading for the new class i'm going to take....and then studying a little for PMP.

So that rash was poison ivy, not mosquitoes? Never had that, did get poison oak on the west coast years ago

YES...def not mosquito bites...poison ivy gets worse over the course of a few days and stupid me scratched it like crazy the first few days, making it worse / spreading it a little bit possibly. i'm sure poison oak is similar feeling and burns like crazy too - both plans contain the same poison substance.

well...i guess the ones with the most employment???

but, it's all new areas to me, really, so I am interested in all of them right now since i do not know a lot about any of them.

there's a lot of immigration in NYC where i live, so, I'm thinking that would be a great field for me to work in - but i do not speak fluent spanish and it's been a job requirement for some jobs!!!! yup, fluent in Spanish is required for some jobs (because of where i live).

it's really uncomfortable, the PI, but, I may go back to the farm tomorrow anyways because it's good exercise. I just will wear long sleeves...i'm thinking it's some of the best ways i'm using my time (being active) and not to stop..

Great choices for legal studies! Most immigration jobs require Spanish speaking fluency. Every once in a while, I'll see a job posting for Polish.

I feel that you can't go wrong with bankruptcy, but that's federal law not state. The water law would be very niche. Interesting but very specialized.

My in laws lived in westchester county, Thornwood. Loved visiting them and taking the train into Manhattan. They moved there from the Bronx.

i have never heard of Thornwood (i def don't know all the towns in Westchester) i'll have to look it up...Bronx is on the way up there, uh huh! and that is what happened, as the boroughs of the city changed, people left the bronx and went to westchester for a more suburban, quieter feel..as well as safety..

Thornwood is a small “hamlet” in the town of Mount Pleasant. Very nice, at least when we visited. They had over an acre, very nice lot. Pretty lawn and trees.

no more PMP books, really only one book called "PMP" for short...and the app...

so yes, to answer your question to the point, it's a paralegal book that's on "Amicable Dispute Resolution" also called "Achievable Dispute Resoulution" mostly known as "Alternative Dispute Resolution" - anything out of court / litigation i believe...

the book is "short" in that it's soft cover and smaller than a textbook, but it IS 500 pages...and so far it is a tough read...lots of vocabulary...but i understand it well enough. i'm getting a head-start on the class which will start Oct. 19 - supposedly it's a 7 week course only (pretty sure on this - but i could be wrong) and it should be around 10 hours a week of work (way less than the other course i took - Paralegal Certificate Course)

actually, it's not even a paralegal book...it's actually written more for lawyers i think...it's just on the Alternative Resolution processes, i am at the beginning still...and i don't think it's specific to paralegals..i'll let you know.

Wow! You need to wear sleeves! I even bought a net that goes over my hat. I am extremely sensitive to mosquito bites. I wear gloves to protect my hands, I cover everything, often with multiple layers.

Yeah I never had this ! I just picked up a benedryl spray and it seems to be working.....to decrease the horrible itch

Yikes, that's really bad. Have you tried calamine lotion too? You'll look like a leper but it's supposed to bring relief.

I may also pick that up later today - I was thinking about it - maybe good for nighttime relief ! It’s pretty uncomfortable....fingers crossed that it heals a bit in the next couple days.

Yikes! I hate mosquitoes. Used to swell up when they bit me but since I'm on antihistamines I don't. Bendadryl cream works fairly well if you put it on right away.

I should have used something as soon as they started itching- I did try aloe which really didn’t work but nothing more. Also used alcohol to try to dry them out - didn’t work.

i slept the mornign away, literallly...i don't regret it necessarily, but it's done. i will go out for bike riding in the afternoon - or - just walk around here. i will also be doing weights today (upper body).  it's a nice day, i really should go out in the sushine even if it's only for a half hour.

2pm lunch: small amount of chicken 150 on an english muffin 150, wiith some light spread (calories low)..followed by a clementine 50...and later iced coffee 50. 400.

snacks between 5-6:30 chocolate 120, pb 160...approx 300.

looking to get fried chicken for dinner and ride my indoor bike tonight as i watch tv. ..never went outside for a walk, but i did get my weights in.!

dinner: Arby's - fried chicken 350 (hopefully not much more), fries 300. 650.

Late snack - white chocolate 100

1900. Looking to eat a little healthier tomorrow. And be more active as well. No cardio today.


did my laundry, studied a little bit, ...

signed up for advanced paralegal certificate course that can be taken in 6 increments and I have up to ONE YEAR to finish it - VERY possible. I will take one course to start (you can take up to 3 in one shot), and also be continuing some PMP studying also...I should EASILY manage 6 short courses over the course of this year, i KNOW that..and those courses will add up to a final ADVANCED paralgeal certificate with 6 specialties that i have studied...

i know i wasn't going to take any courses while studying for PMP exam, but, turns out I feel i have enough time for both and especially bc i am not sure when i'm starting work / getting a job...even if i DO get a job...i will just do the courses...it's as easy as taking ONLY ONE course per session...these courses are easier (10 hours per week?) than when i took the first paralegal course this past Summer/Fall. still waiting for my grades.

the advanced paralegal gives me training in 6 specialties of my choice such as: bankruptcy law, matrimony (i think?), trusts and estates, immigration law, etc...it could be great to add to my resume to show i DO in fact have some training...because now i do not have ANY training in the specialties - that's right, none. so, it's not costly and i will use some of the money i had originally wanted to use for signing up for the Advanced Dispute Course (which i will still take - but as part of the Advanced Certifiicate instead of on it's own....this certificate could be VERY helpful for me...i'm not done thinking about paralegal, even if i enter bACK to the union (most probably), I dream a future in the NYS courts as my last and preferable career path.


mom made this yesterday - chicken thighs and lemon potatoes - a Mediterranean/ Greek recipe and it was great! Also spinach and roasted asparagus ;)

and those were the leftovers...it was really healthy and tasty...i could have done without dessert! at least it was decent calories even with dessert and not a "big loss" of a day like i used to have! :)

more dad's bday so I can't wait to give him his presents and eating dinner with family and we walked at boardwalk about half hour ride away. I was a little late to parents at 2pm and not 1pm so mom not happy ugh .

Keep applying for as many paralegal jobs as you can that you think will be good for you. That's part of the learning process too. You got nothing to lose.

picked up masks and shirts for dad, kept them in my car for his bday tomorrow...

then, a 45 min walk with dad - very nice

lunch- by dad - canned good chicken soup with extra chicken added 450. Slice pizza small 200

 3:30pm back at home fell asleep studying until  4:15pm!

4:15pm cookies, too many 300...pb on cheese crackers and also two last butter cookies...also going to have some veggies - ratatouillle 100

been having some less healthy eating days lately...

back to some studing followed by weights later today...

5:45pm grapes, greek yogurt with stevia & instant coffee grinds mixed in before weghts/legs workout 200

7:30pm chocolate 50, almonds 100..

2250...rough day in terms of eating right..

went to pick up the mask/shirts for dad and it was surprisingly 5 minutes away from where my parents live! Just a coincidence since it was the next town over and could have been slightly farther. So I drove to parents and dad walked with me outside and I'll have lunch with my parents. Was supposed to have a recruiter phone call at 11:30 but now it's 11:50 and nothing....I'll go back home later for studying / weights ....all done. ..recruiter called later and it went relatively well. We'll see if it leads anywhere. It was for a firm dealing with asbestos cases on the plaintiff side.


doing the activities i listed yesterday...cooked the ratatouille and it came out well!

need to make sure i have a bday card for my dad for tomorrow..later today i'll check..have it!

and upper body weights-maybe do some lower body strength too.both done !!

How sweet that you and your Dad had a walk together. Treasure the memories. Happy bd to him, too. My Dad was killed in a car wreck when I was 9, so I never did really get to know him but I loved him. He was a good person.

It’s very good and I added a bit of spices (dried from pantry) in. I made sure the carrots / squash cooked enough - will try to make it more often or similar cooked veggie dishes - very healthy
