been relaxing all morning, watching some tv, cuddling with piggies. about ready to start studying Topic 11 now for the last exam. hoping the final 4 topics are a little shorter than previous (seems they might be...). a good goal for me is to finish both topics 11,12 this weekend. but no pressure.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/31/2021:
I wish you a productive day at home with your studies today. A nice change of pace after your outing yesterday. (Perhaps?) Coffee and pie is a lovely way to start off. Something so comforting about pumpkin pie -- I think it's the spices that evoke nostalgia, making it taste even better... :-)

Horn_of_plenty on 07/31/2021:
it was mostly just resting and it was a great change of pace, that's correct, after yesterday.

i agree coffee goes with a nice, delicious slice of pie and yes i guess the spices are what really make the pie! it was actually a little rich and i think i may try again using evaporated milk, but not the whole can like i did last time since those cans are bigger than of the condensed milk...

i do think the spices make the pump pie. i ranted on your journal.

life is good right now; but i do wish i had a partner who would challenge me. i think this will come again for me; but not now; later when I am more open to it. i am in no rush. it's just i do not like outtings where there is nothing to learn, nothing new to see. my friend doesn't care to learn or see. it can be hard. LOL. but i got exercise in; i'm not saying i got nothing out of it :)

Jacky82020 on 07/31/2021:
Yes! August already!

Hope the farm has take out goodies for you & the piggies.

I saw the cutest pigs at petsmart. They had three wide bands around their chubby bodies: white, black & red. Also saw a cutie called a Syrian hamster. B&W

Horn_of_plenty on 07/31/2021:
Now you know me! YES, i hope there's some good takeout veggies also tomorrow!!! :)

also, how nice you got to take a little trip into Petsmart! i would have asked to hold those cuties. 3 stripes is awesome and very colorful! hamsters are so cute too. it's so sweet looking at all the pets...

Jacky82020 on 07/31/2021:
I went to Petsmart to look at goldfish. I bought a 40 Gallon tank at a terrific price. All the goldfish at Petsmart were sick and not for sale. The water was all cloudy with medications. I called another big box pet shop & they said the same for theirs. So will get them at Petco tomorrow. They can grow fast in a big tank, so it will be fun to watch.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/31/2021:
that is so odd they are all sick :(

what about the sea monkeys? can they all be in the same tank?

Jacky82020 on 07/31/2021:
Very strange. They said at the second store they use the same vendor as Petsmart. the sea monkeys will be raised in a jar and fed to the fish. They are just tiny tiny brine shrimp.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/31/2021:
ohhhh! great idea i love this - raising sea monkeys and them using them as feed ;)

Jacky82020 on 07/30/2021:
Great job at maintaining! I find it very difficult. Do you?

Horn_of_plenty on 07/31/2021:
It has gotten easier with time; but there's always the challenge to not get into the habit of indulging again.

I find it easier when my schedule is somewhat busy as i'm distracted and don't think about food.

maintaining was very difficult when i was first starting. but bc i lost weight so slowly at first, i got used to knowing what i need to maintain. also, i count calories; so i base what i eat specifically on that. i count as i go thru the day; knowing if my calories are good or high by dinner.

sometimes i still go over calories, we are all only human, but i find it a lot easier now than in the past.

final answer, maintaining gets a bit easier with time.

bearcountrygg on 07/30/2021:
Blueberries here today too.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/31/2021:
they are so good at their freshest! :) enjoy!!!

Donkey on 07/31/2021:
I hope you had a good time at the beach! Getting all that vitamin D, and listening to the waves. Did you all pack a lunch?

And then you had the motivation to bake a pie! I was surprised and delighted to read this - yay!!! I know you love pumpkin pie for breakfast :-) Now that is something to get up for!

Jacky82020 on 07/31/2021:
I am finding maintaining as difficult as losing, but perhaps I’ve forgotten how miserable it was.

Friday, 7/30 - Vacation Day #6

Hopefully i can add at least an hour to my cardio total above. not as many sunshine hours as I thought i'd get; but decent for the month.

11:15-11:30 am C is arriving at my place to go to beach. nice on a friday; less beach traffic than a weekend day :)

LOOK INTO RED LIGHT CAMERA TICKET...- verdict is i didn't have any other tickets prior like i thought i did. so it's just the one that came today. it's not a red light, but "speeding" in a school zone. get this - $50 for going 36 in a 25 zone before 7am. haha; it was by work. i need to look up exactly the location so i am very familiar and it doesn't happen again!  i haven't been opening my mail lately; though i look to see who everything is from on the envelope always...this weekend i'll organize and open all mail. this bill for this speeding ticket isn't due until end of August. so i'll pay it after i pay my rent this coming week.

Saturday, 7/31 - mostly home.

MAKE SURE I'VE DEALT WITH RED LIGHT CAMERA TICKET

8/16 - Monday, Vacation Day 8

8/17 - Tuesday, Vacation Day 9 - 10am-12pm Volunteering at farm

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 07/29/2021:
I finally noticed you changed your start weight to 115 at some time. So just for the hell of it I tried to change mine just to see if I could. Was actually 134 when I started here 8/20/20, but I lied & said the start was 125. Just playing with the graphs. I will always keep my goal lower than my realistic expectations because I find the flat bar graph ugly looking. LOL

horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
I know what you mean, for sure! i also get very picky with how i like things to look and very into details of things; like you!

I got you completely!!! :)

yes, i have made some changes; rarely lately.

horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
i'm not changing anything now because i don't necessarily want to go lower; and also don't want to force myself not to go higher. kinda in a good place :)

horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
like i told you, i do not weigh myself all the time. it's more when i feel lower or feel higher that i do a "check"

Jacky82020 on 07/29/2021:
Are you rounding up or down? I would never remain at such a constant weight. Always up or down, at least a tad.

I keep the Fitbit scale & an iPad in the bathroom & hop on naked after my morning pee, almost everyday. It’s a habit. No point I can see in more weigh-ins later when I’m dressed & eating & drinking.

horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
i told you lol that i do not weigh often and i do not look beyond the main number...i don't care if it's .2 or .4 or .8...i just look at the number it is to the left of the decimal to see about what i am.

like if it says 112 and not 110...i will realize i am up...it hasn't gone there.

if it says 109.8; i will not change it here.

I would only change it here if it went up constantly above 110 (or wasn't below 110 - sometimes i am; but i just consider it 110 because i'm not used to maintaining lower than 110 and don't want to force myself to do that here). and i do not weigh enough to check if i'm below 110. ...so i'm keeping it at 110 here.

yes, no need to weigh in more. the scale is only a measurement item; but not the item that actually maintains your weight. it's a tool, but a tool i do not need to use much right now...

bearcountrygg on 07/29/2021:
I believe I would put that ticket before eating/sleeping/studying/exercising...

horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
YES......YES.....

horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
i was reminded when i previewed my mail coming today (yes, i have that option) and it says i have something else from the NYC dept of finance (which reminded me it must be related to the ticket i forgot to open oops)

Jacky82020 on 07/29/2021:
Did you hear about the camera tickets that were mailed out? With photos. That showed a cheating spouse or live-in? lol

Horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
NO ...that's pretty darn crazy tho!

Jacky82020 on 07/29/2021:
Pretty funny! Matt sure would have some explaining to do if the city sent a pic here of him with some chick. I’d Dateline them LOL.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/29/2021:
lol, he'd def be exposed to the nation then!

Donkey on 07/30/2021:
I've done that with my mail before, LOL... So has Husband. A lot of our BK clients to that too. It just gets to feeling overwhelming. Sounds like you got the ticket issue under control and have a plan :-)

But I hate it when things like that come up -- it puts the anxiety on highest levels.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/30/2021:
it will be good to go thru all my mail :) usually i do not let it build up so much; but it does happen lol.

Friday, 7/30 - Vacation Day #6

need to confirm time (not too early to meet up by me as less traffic later on) beach with Christine.. planned just this past Monday after work; i'd say it's ok - people taking off often lately. it's much easier to drive to beach during the week than the weekend because of (i am sure) a bit less traffic during the day Friday in the directions we are going.  And it means my weekend can continue as originally planned, with farm Sunday :)

need to confirm time (not too early to meet up by me as less traffic later on) beach with Christine.. planned just this past Monday after work; i'd say it's ok - people taking off often lately. it's much easier to drive to beach during the week than the weekend because of (i am sure) a bit less traffic during the day Friday in the directions we are going.  And it means my weekend can continue as originally planned, with farm Sunday :)

Saturday, 7/31 -

Study some of the new topics...

Sunday 8/1 - August Already!

Almost take Exam 4? (might need to do it the following weekend??)

Farm Sunday 1-4pm

check my progress in accounting course........

Weekend of fri afternoon 8/13-8/16 sunday AM....totally signed up last minute for this educational seminar with the club i'm in thru union (gave into the guy asking i participate)..not sure the topic is great (Covid - like i really need more education on this!?)...we'll see how it is. anyways, i'll prob take days off before/after this event as it's going to take most of the weekend (sleepover 2 nights out east) and i'm totally not ok with working straight, a weekend away for "work" and then back to work with no days off...so i have to plan for this. my parents will be there too...but we'll see...it's a lot of sitting in class, will try to at least get minimal amounts of exercise i like on this weekend..

May not be done with accounting by the 8/13 weekend;

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 07/27/2021:
I don't think I would last a day in accounting......

horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
def better to take the class from a teacher who can give you tips...was hard to take on my own. but i didn't study much, hence my poor grades. however, to do better, i think i'd need a teacher. wasn't fun teaching myself! lol. but glad i took the challenge and i'm finishing it because it was relevant to my job / life.

Jacky82020 on 07/27/2021:
My brother is a CPA & makes a fortune. Sounds really boring to me!

horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
seems an accounting job can be a great job...depending on the type of work done :)

horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
seems an accounting job can be a great job...depending on the type of work done :)

Jacky82020 on 07/27/2021:
He does work for several Silicon Valley multimillionaires & is a multimillionaire himself, but more from real estate investments than CPA $$.

horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
lol, got his # !? LOL LOL.

Donkey on 07/27/2021:
A lady I went to college with became a CPA. She moved up in her company very quickly. Two years later, she left that life to join the Peace Corp.

So glad to hear that there will be a beach day with Christine :-)

Protein muffins not the best? Or too expensive?

horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
yes, finally, we are going to beach together. Friday is less traffic than a weekend, surely makes me happy that way!

the muffins don't have a great taste and are so low in sugar that i do not get any "energy push" from it; in comparison to what i have been eating. would have been better with a banana at the same time... but yes, not worth the money for the product, taste, effect.

bearcountrygg on 07/27/2021:
I would be bored out of my mind........I remember taking a college entrance exam and they were talking about the results...there were several of us in the room around the table and the administrator was talking about choosing the right major and minor and class selections.....he pulled a test out randomly and said something like.....now this persons score was off the charts at reading level...but very low in math...I see they have chosen psychology as a major and sociology as a minor.....that's appropriate for this person because basically if a person leans to psychology and sociology...they will not usually be good in math...something to do with the different sides of the brain....I was so glad he didn't point out that it was my exam he was looking at...LOL...and so true...The one and only college level class that was required was not but pure agony for me....and I was so glad to pass it...by the skin of my teeth.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
lol that is funny. i was average in math; did better when i applied myself. accounting is def something else! :) in college, i took ONE math class and it was hardly even college level.

bearcountrygg on 07/27/2021:
I also remember having to go outside to study for that math class....( I would sit out in the Pavillion and not allow myself to go inside until I had read a certain number of pages and got the problems done......trying to do that inside...I kept getting up and doing housework too often...just to avoid it.....luckily it was warm weather....Looking back now...i can see that I treated that math class like I treat exercise equipment now...LOL..

Horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
i know what you mean! studying in my apt is a lot more distracting than if i went to a library to study. i also do better studying somewhere that is not home (hence, why i enjoyed it on the subway...nowhere to go; nothing else to do...so studying works out!) same with reading on the subway...excellent time for it :) i should get back to that later a little in the wintertime! when not studying, i should commute a little more by subway since traffic will increase and i should READ :)

Maria7 on 07/27/2021:
Hope you are having a good day, HOP.

horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
a lil tired, but it's a good day. good people in this office!!!

Jacky82020 on 07/27/2021:
Just noticed that Sea Monkey ad says they hatch instantly. LOL We shall see.

I should just order a kit from Amazon. Setting up a 40 gallon tank soon.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/27/2021:
well well! i am guessing you already had the tank....sea monkeys...i have heard of them but need to look them up.

you MUST post photos of this.

Jacky82020 on 07/27/2021:
Oh, thought I was talking to Bear about the monkeys. Lol

horn_of_plenty on 07/28/2021:
LOL

happy-1 on 07/27/2021:
Mick Jagger is a CPA.

horn_of_plenty on 07/28/2021:
LOL, Happy!

Jacky82020 on 07/28/2021:
No, he is not. But he did take a few accounting classes before dropping out of college to pursue music. Wise move!

horn_of_plenty on 07/28/2021:
lol lol.

Jacky82020 on 07/26/2021:
Been selecting my own Bananas at Walmart pickup. They kept giving me these baseball bat bananas that came in at >200 Cals Plus, it’s hot, so they’re ripening quickly. Then Matt won’t eat them, leaving me to slice & freeze. Too many lately. But good in the Torino syrups.

horn_of_plenty on 07/26/2021:
they do go bad so fast, bananas!

in china, they package them with the range of ripening for like 5 bananas, so they all ripen perfectly per day ;)!!!

good idea to freeze them, i need to make a shake with mine...i have a few frozen that i forgot about!

Donkey on 07/26/2021:
Congratulations on passing Exam 3!!!! Woo hoo, now you're moving forward. I think you *can* finish Accounting before the 8/13 weekend, but the real question is, Would it be worth it? Meaning sacrificing relaxation time, outdoor time, fun reading time, etc.

What I CAN probably say with confidence, is that you probably don't want to start Business Law AND still have the Accounting final exam looming over your head. Bleah....

horn_of_plenty on 07/26/2021:
that's right...and i really DO NOT want to postpone business law! i think i postponed it 2x already and it's been prepaid...and it'll be nice when i am no longer doing any more studies, thinking about studies, or have studies planned for future. the break later will be worth it.

you have it right; i do not want to be doing accounting while doing business law! ugh!

I will try to push it; i think the last 4 topics may be broken up to more easily get thru ....i haven't reviewed yet to determine if i'm right..but i would guess that i just got thru the hardest of exams (3) and that exam 4 will be a little easier...

Maria7 on 07/26/2021:
Hope you are having a good day!

horn_of_plenty on 07/26/2021:
yes, a pretty good Monday if i do say so myself! REST UP Maria!!!

bearcountrygg on 07/26/2021:

Jacky82020 on 07/26/2021:
Trying to find the emojis here. Can’t! Maybe it can only be from my post & not a reply?

Donkey on 07/27/2021:
Cannot use emojis in replies. Cannot use phone emojis. Limited to emojis in original posts only. <<< Learned this the hard way, LOL

Donkey on 07/25/2021:
I understand the work retreat much better now, with your description on yesterday's entry. (Thank you for sharing it!) OK, so it's not a luxury hotel experience. It's good that your folks will be there, plus a friend & her husband, if I read that correctly. Perhaps after class, you can walk with your friend. She may want to stretch her legs too.

I understand that the seminar is industry related but not directly related to your job. And it looks good to your club, and your participation may also reflect well on your dad, so there's that, even if you really don't want to go. I just realized that you will probably be done with Accounting, and resting up before Business Law starts up. Hmm... Maybe not the ideal way to "rest" but at least you won't have the pressures of classes to also deal with.

I'm wondering if you can print out some other articles of interest to read during the presentation, so that you have something interesting to look at, if you're bored to death with the COVID talk. I presume there will be handouts, if there is a PowerPoint presentation.... or note taking... Maybe sit in the back.

Oh and absolutely NO to the fishing trip. No way no way no way. Who wants to be stuck on a boat with a bunch of smelly fish? I never understood the appeal of fishing, other than tartar sauce.

I hope you are able to take Exam 3 tonight (and pass)! It would help your timeline immensely, but it is what it is, and you can only do what you can do. Good luck today!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/25/2021:
right!? especially if i have hardly a soul to bring...def not a fishing trip! it goes against my very being...hate being tied down for long periods of time! ha!

you totally get me on everything you wrote above, yes.

thank gosh Exam 3 is over. taking the final exam, after i finish exam 4....may be a little nutty! :) just fingers crossed now to get thru exam 4.

and yes, i will have to mention my desire to walk with the friend.

bearcountrygg on 07/25/2021:
Good luck with your exam!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/25/2021:
thank you, passed by 2 points, so happy. need this course to be done...i don't want to quit, but it's taking a lot of patience!

Jacky82020 on 07/25/2021:
I’m back to fat free Greek yogurt after a lengthy hiatus. Used Torino vanilla syrup & cocoa in my last serving. Good! Needed a way to use my two big bottles of vanilla syrup. The bottles are ~$13 on Amazon, but 4 of their choice for ~ $35: chocolate, caramel, hazelnut & vanilla. Glad I finally found a use for the vanilla!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/25/2021:
glad you found a use! i love he 2% fage yogurt. it keeps me more satisfied than fat free. it's good you know what works and have a way of meeting your sweet tooth with those syrups.

Jacky82020 on 07/25/2021:
I accidentally bought a quart of 2% & it was 130 Cals / 4% protein vs 90 Cals 17% protein in nonfat Greek. 3/4 C serving. So the hi protein satisfies me longer. Buy the quarts because I like a strong cocoa, coffee flavor or both.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/25/2021:
by 2%, i meant 2% GREEK which also has a ton of protein. 4% doesn't sound right, it must be regular yogurt and not greek. I am quite positive on this.

i wouldn't be saisfied on 4% protein either.

Jacky82020 on 07/25/2021:
Probably not GreeK then! I’ll check for 2% Greek.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/25/2021:
2% greek has slightly more fat than 0%, but VERY satisfying bc of it...you'll see the difference right away.

Jacky82020 on 07/25/2021:
I’m sticking with Walmart & the cheap fat free Greek. Then if it’s not filling, I’ll eat a key lime pie.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/25/2021:
haha ;) whatever works !

happy-1 on 07/25/2021:
Ok... Trying to read your entries... I get confused because some of them have the same text day to day... Which section am I supposed to look at?

horn_of_plenty on 07/26/2021:
haha...look at the text for the day that it is...i update the current day as the day goes by... ;)

Wait! You’re going on a two day covid retreat? Tell that union to pay a dollar a week for everyone to get a digital NYT subscription. You’ll learn more than you ever wanted to know on the virus.

horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
I’m annoyed if this is all we’ll discuss ! Hope not !

horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
Really didn’t want to go - got sucked in, it is free though so there’s that

bearcountrygg on 07/24/2021:
How ironic...lets all get together in person and talk about how we make each other sick...LOL...............There has to be some kind of kick back on that one!!!

horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
Ha- there is ! Jk- you must be vaccinated to attend lol

Jacky82020 on 07/24/2021:
LOL. I’m always reading about how these business retreats are company paid excuses to party hardy, drink & have sex. Seriously. But I know you are a very good girl.

trust the, this retreat isn't like that at all...smaller thing, i've done it once before. also, the type of people i'm with are all mostly married or will bring someone in their family like their spouses. LOL.

the last time i went, there was some drinking afterwards, but that really isn't my thing and i was frustrated that i had to sit at a table while people talked and drank. its def not high-end and the property is actually owned by the union for eduational retreat purposes. i really didn't want to go as i don't love it and i'm single (so i have no spouse to bring for fun etc), so hopefully the course will offer more than just covid stuff...it usually is also politcally motivated (which is fine with me).

Jacky82020 on 07/24/2021:
Is it at least in a nice area?

Horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
yes - it's a retreat kind of area. but not fancy, like i said. it's along the Long Island Sound i believe, not the ocean, if i'm correct. it's very beautiful. most of the time will be in class. then, some people just sit at the pool after class...i'd rather be WALKING. moving after being in class. we'll see. there's a gym there, not sure if it'll be open. i will prob not even try to use it. the first time i went, i used the gym ;)

but this time, my parents will prob leave the place very quickly on Sunday morning, i may see if i could get them to go with me to an adventure park and stay with me while i climb the course! YES, not kidding. it's on the way home...

Horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
it's far out on Long Island, quite the drive. so nothing is too close near it though there's a small town not too far away. and by being on the beach, i mean that. it's on the water, you can walk along the beach. i may be doing it by myself...though a friend of mine is in fact going with her hubby...so i realized just now i'm lucky...

bearcountrygg on 07/24/2021:
Vaccinated people are still getting covid...they usually just get a milder case of it though.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
yes, i know, and it's good it's milder if they do get it.

i am not a fan of the retreats as i'm more of a homebody and don't like a full weekend spent with people that are more my associates than friends. ah well. i'm going as a challenge. plus, my parents will be there. hopefully i won't feel like "their child" while there ! ha!

Donkey on 07/24/2021:
^ I agree with Bear on both of her points, as far as the irony. Still, if work is paying for it, I'd probably go. Maybe there's a hot tub and a gym at the hotel. Or cable... Or even just a *change*.

I'm so sorry that the walking tour was a dud. I know you were really looking forward to it, and you had to pay money, only to get a jerk as a guide. How many other walkers, besides the guide, where there? Was it a large group? Did you have a chance to chat with other walkers? Well, I'm glad that you're not letting THIS experience get you down and that you will continue your park tours into the autumn.

I'd be interested to hear what the next chapters are, for Exam 4, if you're willing to share. :-)

Horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
yes, there's a lot of irony. i wish i were wrong and i hope we aren't discussing covid the whole time because if we are, i think i'll go insane! it's the last thing i'd like to discuss; considering everyone in the room already made the decision to be vaccinated; it's a lost cause having the discussion with us...if you know what i mean. we already did what "we had to do." so anyways, i really hope there's some other stuff to be discussed. the topics always have relevancy.

i didn't chat much to the others because the walk was quite fast and it was quite loud at times due to overhead trains and being in the city and near water; and tight sidewalks, it proved difficult for more than two people to talk at a time. most of the participants were at at least 1.5x my age if not almost double. yes, a few were indeed older than 70. out of about 10 participants; maybe 12; i'd say there were AT LEAST 3-4 that were older than 70. so i'm not kidding. there was one younger guy and i think he came with his parents; they looked to be in their 50's. there was an Asian woman there also, just a little older than myself (she looked to me to be). oh, and one other later around your age. and another single woman around your age. (2 around your age). the two women in their 70's were actually very nice; but like i said it was too hard to talk with them above the noise and tight spaces.

however, i was left with such a distaste for the guide, that i left quickly when it was done; noticing the tour ended around 20-30 min from my car (but those 20 min were left to get back on your own!; not like a nice tour or anything else.).

but i left quickly and saw one of the women around your age leaving. i quickly asked if she liked it and just as quickly told her i didn't like it at all...she agreed it wasn't the best; she mentioned there were "no sites" to be seen (seriously!, aside from ONE!); and she mentioned he read straightforward from his notes the whole time (not a problem, but, he went thru them so fast (in my mind), it was actually confusing to even follow at times.

anyways, rather than leading this as a nice tour; he lead it like it was his job and we were his crew - except, that is NOT what it was and not what i believe he should have done.

yes, i had wanted to talk and was in a talkative mood even on topics not related; but he was not inclined to listen.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
there's a gym there; not a lot of people use it; but i'm not sure it will be open. i'm not even sure i'll want to use it - the weekend is a tiring one with all the sitting/classroom aspect.

also, there's an ocean but people don't swim in it. but there's also the pool. quite small and honestly i'm not sure i want to sit around the whole time in the pool. i was hoping to walk; but, my mom has told me that since she doesn't attend the classes as she's not a club member; she hangs out with other members' wives; going for walks while we are in class and she has told me she will not walk with me again later - so as you see, of course, it's not really optimal for my own sanity to even go, but, since a am sort of a member in this club (yes, i paid the dues), i am going as a challenge on the learning part - although in my mind the last time i went i told myself i never have to go again...hmmmm....here's me once again going back on my own decisions and feelings on what i want to succumb to when i really don't want to.

like we said, it's free. i'll prob hop a ride with parents, although, it'd be nice if I COULD DRIVE, for the experience...

also, it's not a hotel per se, but townhouse style of a two-floor structure with a common kitchen for all rooms. and it's not apartments, but single rooms - i do not htink they even have tv's. it's a place built to be a getaway for learning by the union and on a lovely waterfront. it could prob be sold for a pretty penny but it's not a luxury place. it's just rooms with bathrooms also and a bed and not a fancy place but it was built recently; prob around 10-15 years old, tops. so good condition. the union sold the last place, very old in disrepair; for a lot of money bc the land was in a good location and very expensive. anyways, i will now spend my a few of vacation days to relax on both ends of this "getaway," (both taking days off before the weekend and after...because the weekend is not a "vacation" in my mind. i'll try to be open minded, but, it's not my cup of tea.

i was also asked to attend a fishing trip...which i asked if my dad was going and the man said he wasn't sure. so i called my dad to find out my dad hated the trip too because it's just "standing around on a boat with nowhere to go for 5 hours"...said dad....and it used to be a full day!

so i was like, oh, well, then i won't go...because i feeel the same way! who wants to be stuck on a boat all day.?! and drive at least an hour to get to the boat!? like what.?!

so i'm glad i'm not doing both.

but, i just know i do not want to end up forever in this job...but i seem to still do several things i do not want to do.

all in all, i hope i can get something new out of the retreat course.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/24/2021:
and the trips for this club aren't related to my job, but they are to the overall union. (kinda a confusing thing, i know). but def nobody from my job will be in attendnace.

Friday, 7/23/21

lower body strength - AM - done, instead of walking. glad i got that in before work, after parking.

breakfast: banana 120, pb not much 50, one more italian tri-color cookie 200? coffee 30. 400.

snacks: almonds bbq 50, 10am pb 100, bite size piece of tricolor - and maybe more later. very good tasting. 100.

lunch: hopefully nobody orders ahhhh JOE ORDERED PIZZA! i have some healthy items...ate my squash stewed 100 (bc i wanted to be very full and it helped...), also ate the brocc rabb (tons of it!) off the pizza of two huge slices 200, half a large slice of pizza dough/cheese part 400. 700. was a good taste. the pizza is NYC style and extremely large slices. hot strong coffee.

snacks:

dinner: 5:30pm light snack before workout, decided to do upper body - fruit, small choc, fiber one cookie. total 250

7:45 spicy dill pickle almonds 100, mint chocolates 100 250. followed by reading and sleeping. no workout. possibly tomorow eve, but prob just do it Sunday. old pack some sugar free gummies 100

1850-1900.

will prob eat what i brought for lunch, the remainder of it, for dinner (older eng muffin i've had a while, slice cheese, two turkey meatballs i made). but i may just throw it out and have a lighter dinner of fruit/yogurt, yes, really, because it's not that much of a waste. or i can try to give it to a homeless person but it's not good to eat cold.  maybe i'll heat it up and give away?

I took my notes today; to study at work for the last half hour that i'm here is my plan; to study the accounting as main boss is out, another PM on vaca, and the other PM leaves usually at 2-3pm and i leave at 3:30 so nobody should be around that i need to communicate with during that half hour...(others will be here; but they will be doing their own things).  I may study at other times too, but first there's def things to catch up on first...had enough work work to just stick to real work at work!

I've decided to skip weights tonight & go to bed early so I will enjoy the walking tour tomorrow. So that means just 2x upper body this week; not 3x. LIke i was saying in earlier entries, i'm going to maybe do 2x a week some weeks just bc i've found this schedule/commute a little rough...and try to keep my strength going back & forth between 2x a week some weeks and my better 3x a week approach. (It is what it is - and i am not about to exhaust myself when the most important thing i need to do right now is SLEEP!).  Bed early tonight, i'm sure, around 8pm/9pm.

Saturday, 7/24/21

If i decide to wake up early, i can take notes on the last chapter?

I will drive because in the morning, traffic will be somewhat light as the tour begins at 11am. Going home traffic but after walking on a 2-hour tour, I'll deal with driving in traffic.

Marble Hill Walking Tour, $30, 11am-1pm. i should be able to get there on time if i leave at 9:00am, no problems at all; and read a book on my phone in my car if i'm early.

mcdonalds after tour with a diet coke - while having oil change?

oil change/study notes straight after tour- bring notebook with me in morning so i do not forgot it...

finish last chapter of notes? may need to finish Sunday as well...

Sunday, 7/25/21

Supermarket AM - do a quick stop at supermarket bc not going to farm this weekend. get fruit/veg/any other small items. no need for breads/meat. have a lot of frozen turkey burgers, etc.Laundry AM

Earlier PM - EXERCISE; get it done!

study all notes for all chapters, take exam, see how i do, hopefully pass.

Move onto the Exam 4 study chapters, see above.

8/26/21 - Thurs - Back to work

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Donkey on 07/23/2021:
YES! I completely support your decisions regarding weight training in relation to time/sleep and walking tour. And I also applaud your good judgment to get a little more sleep and drive in today. You do not want to be compromised for your walking tour - which you are looking forward to a lot - nor do you want to be compromised AFTER your tour because you walked too much the day before the tour. Your legs need to rest. And I know the walking tour is very important and much anticipated by you!

My step-father was Sicilian, and when his parents' generation were still alive (Uncle Joe, Aunt Santa, Grandma, etc.), they would make Italian cookies - from scratch - that were authentic. Soooo delicious! And wonderful while they were fresh, BUT I also liked them very much when they were just a little older (not stale, but not freshly made). It changed the textures and brought out the flavors a little more, I felt. Ohh so yummy and hard to resist. In fact - impossible to resist!

Glad to read that you brought study material to work. Your plan sounds good. If I weren't out in the damn open where I work, I would do the same thing. I have a question: If you leave something in your car (like your study material), are you allowed to leave your office to fetch it out of your car?

horn_of_plenty on 07/23/2021:
car is quite down the road and takes just under 5min to get to it; and nobody goes for walks at lunch and it would take over 5 min just to go to my car and then come back. it's a good idea to get a walk in, but, better to bring the materials with me purposely so i have them at my desk no matter what. with nobody here, i wouldn't want to show either that i'm going walking extra, etc. best to lay low with the materials here; but, i may go outside a few minutes at lunch depending on what everyone else is doing...like if they order pizza (i doubt it, and they are all in the same room, i shouldn't go and instead stay with the group, etc.)

yeah, i need to learn to be moderate in knowing not to overdo both before and after the walk so i'm able to keep going without days off of work :) the life/work balance :) thank you!

Maria7 on 07/23/2021:
Squash sounds good. Thought we were going to have some to harvest from our little garden, but even though they got blooms, no squash yet.

horn_of_plenty on 07/23/2021:
i hope you get some, it's so lo-cal and healthy! you can do a TON with it! GOOD LUCK!!!

Exam 3 - trying for this weekend, ending July 18.

Thursday 7/22/21 -

8am Breakfast: someone brought in the tricolor italian cookies with the raspberry jelly. SO FRESH. calories were totally off on the package. anyways, they are a good size. rather than not have one, I was going to have half a donut i put in the fridge, but i will throw a half a donut away as this was much better! ha. 200 and a banana and coffee 150....350. (lol, no it wasn't satisfying by 10am very ready for something with a little sugar to keep the blood sugar good lol...it's fine...always like my morning with a snack no matter what!)

10am snack: similar to a granola bar 120; pb 120. 250., 11:30 two chocs small 50, one sucking candy 50.

lunch: brought in a thai soup that i had froze bc i wasn't eating it for a week (but now it's older, been in freezer prob at least a week). should be good after heating up.  (omg, very garlicky! but good /fresh. but this time too much garlic taste! maybe bc it's old.. 200. I will prob have it with toast & PB Kelloggs 200cal crackers to add some more carbs/fat. 400 one clementine. 50.

snack: prob a couple clementines...

dinner: prob toasted eng muffins with cheddar just like last night; side of my cooked squash? maybe lay off the kombucha as i've been wayyyy too gassy and having issues lately. it's def posible too have too much of it! haha...if i change my mind to fried chicken/fries that is fine, too....from arbys; with a side salad of my own making...

dinner: tried a new indian place. food is expensive for the portion size, but GREAT! great prep of the spinach/mushroom. i'd def order it again. no cream in this one, just oils. better that way...not that i care as long as i can get Indian food, but their food tastes GREAT. by work. did takeout. spinach and mushrooms sauteed, lots of sauce/oils but tasty and healthy 200?, fried samosa with herbed potato inside 250-300, gummy candy for dessert 200. lol not the best choice. 650. and an alcoholic beverage. (yes, i do seem to splurge when i know i have the calories left in the evening).

1900...

guinea pigs are eating all the farm goods. Def savings this week; not too much; but prob around $10.  That's nice! And that includes i guess savings on my food, too, since i'm eating mostly the weeds! haha  Last summer i think my savings would go up to $15 per week of free food.

Today I commuted, so I added in an HOUR overall of cardio. :)  I have a nice long commute; so it's easy to read over some of my notes each way.  Depending how I feel, I may even do it again Friday (but depends how I feel tonight when i decide to set my clock or not). plus i've added on an extra half hour as i'm walking from lunch to pick up Indian Mushroom Saag (like creamed spinach with mushrooms) from a place around a mile away from work after work today for a change of pace! I will eat with my last hard boiled egg...

Tonight will be weights, maybe only upper so that it's shorter as i know i'll be a little tired after being up early. I went to be very early which is why I knew it'd be OK to do an early day today  :)

Lately, I'm a bit constipated and everything is blocked up, mostly. not totally, so it's not like I haven't gone to the bathroom, but just I'm not able to totally do what I know I have inside me which is quite weird this week!

anyways, it's almost the weekend; and i'm super excited to go on another walking tour Saturday.

skipping weights tonight - will do tomorrow as I'll be getting home late and would prefer to go to bed straight after dinner - will drive to work tomorrow abs do weights after work.

Friday, 7/23/21

lower body strength - AM or PM

Saturday, 7/24/21

Prob will drive.

Marble Hill Walking Tour, $30, 11am-1pm. i should be able to get there on time if i leave at 9:00am, no problems at all; and read a book on my phone in my car if i'm early.  Maybe take public trans there; study notes on trans.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 07/22/2021:
I am shocked by the calories in some desserts. Ate a reasonable sized piece of key lime pie last week. Then another. Next day I saw 500 calories in 1/5 slice. It was NOT a big pie. I was floored. So that was a thousand Cals in the middle of the night. Wish I had at least taken 2 Alli & blocked maybe 150 Cals of all that fat. I rode the bike and treaded until my toes hurt the morning after. The pie wasn’t even all that great,

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
really 500!? per 1/5? was there a lot of whipped cream on it?? usually they look under 400 cals...

Donkey on 07/22/2021:
I agree with Jacky on the disappointing number of calories in desserts. I be like, "How can there be so many damn calories can be in this little piece of cake, y'all?" Right??? Just doesn't seem fair.

Good for you for taking public transit!!! It's good to mix things up a bit, from time to time. I hope that you do not get too tired during the day, at work. Try to get to bed early, in a proper way, rather than taking a Guinea pig nap ;-)

If Christine can't go to the beach, will you still take the day off? I know you wrote more about your friend, last week, and in earlier entries as well. All friendships have a different level of "give and take". It seems as though the friendship with her is a lot of giving on your part. Still, that doesn't mean to scratch her off your friends list (yet, or ever). It just means that you'll have to set your expectations differently (like, way low, LOL). Sounds like she has issues, and it's nice that you reach out to her, even if she says no a lot.

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
public transit DEF breaks it up. and it's DEF a long commute to get in some studying...

i think the sleeping gp and me waking up DEF disturbs my sleep...hence being extra tired some mornings, for sure.

yeah, C, she's stuck in a world of rules and it's harder for her since she's not vaccinated. not sure why she isn't asking me to go to beach. i have told her to ask me....she loves beach but i'm not pushing her as she should push herself to plan or ask me to plan?! lol. it's ok. when it's close to when i'll take off again, i'll ask her what days are good / plan around the weather. ...i doubt i'll go much to the beach with her this year...i think we already went once though i can't even remember!? nah, that must have been last year.!...it's al good i have learned what you are saying, take care of my own stuff...

Jacky82020 on 07/22/2021:
They come with whipped cream around the perimeter. Not even sure it’s real. Read made with sweetened condensed milk. Cold day in hell before I have another piece of key lime pie! Could have had Butterfingers or Reese Cups for all those calories & enjoyed it far more. But the pie was there and they weren’t.

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
seems like too many calories for a key lime pie! i agree, better off with chocolate!

bearcountrygg on 07/22/2021:
Jacky mentioning sweetened condensed milk reminds me of a 3 ingredient truffle recipe.....UGH...I never made them...BUT...darn it..i WANTED THEM!!! And I think I saved it in my email in case I ever want to gain weight again....LOL AS IF!!!

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
see if you can find it; possibly can sub in unsweetened choc to save calories; i'd like to see it, maybe add stevia in....maybe i make for work! i want to make a low or no sugar added dessert as i think everyone would like it....and there was one that i made i the past that everyone loved at another workplace...so i may do it again, but not yet, or the other women are going to get annoyed with me. need to be careful not to show off or do anything too much. i'm thinking 1x a month or less.

Easy and Quick Chocolate Truffles ( 2 Ingredients Only ) Prep Time10 mins In the refrigerator1 hr Course: Desserts Servings: 8 Ingredients

100 ml condensed milk ( 3.38 fl oz ) 50 g 100% cocoa powder ( 1.7 oz ) 30 g 100% cocoa powder ( for coating ) ( 1 oz )

Instructions

Pour the condensed milk into a large bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Then pour the cocoa powder over the condensed milk using a sieve. Then stir with a spatula until the cocoa and milk are well combined. Finish mixing the paste by hand. Make a flat disc from the dough, wrap in cling film and let it chill for 1 hour in the refrigerator. Remove the dough from the fridge, and place it on a cutting board. Then cut the dough into several squares. In a plate, pour into a sieve 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Take a square of chocolate paste in your hand and knead it until a uniform ball. Do the same for each square. Place all the balls on the cocoa powder and roll them up so that each ball is well coated with cocoa. You can eat them right away or put them in a air tight container and keep them in a cool place for several days.

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
Thank you!!!!! Will review. this looks great! :)

bearcountrygg on 07/22/2021:
These are only 2 ingredients I see...I thought they had butter in them but I guess not...even easier.....I will put the pic on my diary...it won't let me put it here.

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
I will def take a look, THANK YOU!!!!!!!

bearcountrygg on 07/22/2021:
The original recipe that I saw was one where you did make the flat disk and refrigerate...and then you just cut them in squares and toss in the extra cocoa powder to coat all sides.....I think I would go in that direction so as not to handle it as much....pic is up on my diary.

horn_of_plenty on 07/22/2021:
