(calorie counting, all foods, LOTS of veggies)
Weight: 110.2

Workingit points: 6. everything except calories.

well, like most of you, i'd been doing pretty well for the past 6 days. However, today, day 7, I decided to binge.

I had a good breakfast: oatmeal and 2 eggs. 310 calories

Lunch (that lead into a binge): seaweed salad, one pound of frozen sliced peppers, 1/2 cup of shredded bbq chicken, some carrots, and one slice of WW pumpernickle bread...420 calories

my sister was home today. no problems. but, i was getting all jittery...and soon enough, i decided to eat something else:

started with tam tam crackers: 3 1/2 servings = 520 calories chocolate: 220 calories piroulettes cookies: 7 = 525 calories bravos = 550 calories pepperidge farm huge cookies = 560 calories one pb and jelly sandwich = 390 2nd pb and jelly sandwich and a yogurt = 490 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream = 150 (not so good) one cup granola and soy milk = 500....left a spoonfull because i couldn't eat anymore and felt my stomach ready to explode.

Calorie total for today: 4635 calories

I need to replan how my calories in the next few weeks. ugh, i'm feeling sick.......

I'm ignoring what I had figurred out for the # of days I needed at 1500 for my last binge. For this binge, I need to eat 1500 for 11 days. Then, i should be back to where I was this morning.

I'm so crazy right now. I'm nervous. I will be conducting a piece in the district festival, where I currently am only a "substitute teacher!" however, i'm regarded just like any other teacher by the administration and my colleagues. therefore, when i was emailed along with the other band teachers to see who wanted to conduct a piece in the festival, I volunteered to do so. not all the other teachers wanted to, and my administrator told me I can! I'm dying. Next week I begin steadily teaching at the other school. I begin my grad classes the week after. I feel so sick. ugh.

Progress as of today: 3.2 lbs lost so far, only 7.2 lbs to go!

missingsmokes on 01/19/2007:
i don't get it!

borntocry on 01/19/2007:
You are stressed out, girl, and it's not surprising considering how your family hassles you. And then having all those cookies and crackers and chocolate in the house is just so dangerous. But I guess you can't help it if you're living with your family. Maybe the next time you're feeling jittery like that you should just leave the house - go for a walk or something. But I don't know if you can do that where you live. If not, maybe just leave the kitchen and try to get engrossed in some other activity (you know, like we discussed the other day)!

geevee on 01/19/2007:
I left you a comment yesterday, 1/18, thinking it was 11/19. Just to let you know incase you hadn't checked 1/18.

sharklover on 01/19/2007:
Good luck on conducting!! Sounds like fun! how do you calculate how long it takes to get back from binges?

It sucks that you had such a binge today, but at least you know why, and at least I know it happens to everyone. :-)

Justine6Robert3 on 01/19/2007:
You sure have alot going on, its no wonder your stressed out and binging! I read your diaries regarding the whole sister, mother fight. It's really tough to live at home when your a young adult. My mom started to drive me crazy when I was about 18. I moved out when I was 22 and honestly our relationship was so much better after I moved out. I love my mom, ofcourse she can still frustrate me to no end. I have a sister who is only 14 months older than me and we are so different. We haven't been close for years. She got pregnant when she was 16 yrs old and moved out. She seemed to have issues with me from then on. She was so mean and hurtful and I remember asking my parents why does my sister suddenly hate me?! We recently had a very long overdue talk, about lots of issues that we had never discussed, there was alot of tears. I love my sister but she has done and said so many hurtful things to me that its tough to get over. I am very forgiving and I'm trying to leave the past in the past and work on our relationship. I felt so great when we both finally talked out our feelings and put everything in the open.

Sorry I'm babbling on. I do think you would likely get along with your family better if you moved out, I don't know if that's possible for you right now. I guess your overwhelmed with your life right now as it is. Thats great that your volunteering to conduct the festival. I don't blame you for being nervous but I'm sure you'll do great!

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you:)

Justine6Robert3 on 01/19/2007:
Thank-you for the advice on what to eat for better energy at the gym. I went today and I felt so much better!

missingsmokes on 01/20/2007:
Sorry I should of explained myself clearer.....my bad! I don't understand the calorie adjustments you do if you binge.....man you have a lot of stress. I teach stress mgt classes at work, have you ever tried relaxation, yoga or tai chi? Just curious. Sorry for the confusion.....keep breathing hon!

stringbean on 01/20/2007:
Mmm, pirouettes... I just discovered them, and only bought them once- I know I will get into trouble with them!!

Re your comment: I don't eat ground beef because I don't like the texture, not because it's unhealthy or fatty. The only way I eat it is in thin, well done burgers. It's odd, I know.

WorkingIt points for today: 8!

Today started out CRAZILY and I'm glad everything worked out in the end!

I woke up with my alarm clock but I guess I was still sleeping because I woke up again and looked at the clock and it was majorly LATE! Luckily, I showered at night...because I had to be dressed and out the door in 15 minutes flat!

yeah, so i spent 15 minutes trying to get myself to look my best and flew out the door to teach band and lessons for the second time at the other elementary school. Tomorrow I have off, but starting Monday I'll be there for a couple months straight at least.

I got there more than on time. I had to prepare my lesson at school since none of the materials are mine. I had a good amount of time to do so, but i was still a little combobulated knowing that I could have seriously messed up my success with my colleagues and the students.

I'm not sure what I learned from this experience of almost sleeping in too late. I already use TWO alarm clocks. When one goes off, I usually shut off both as I get up. I am not a snooze button presser. LOL, I just hadn't been using an alarm clock for the past 3 weeks and I guess I'll get back into it now that I'll be working on a normal basis.

I obviously forgot to weigh myself this morning! also, i didn't have time to prepare any food whatsoever. I grabbed 3 powerbars that my dad gets (by the case!) from his friends who own a health food store. Regular flavors like apple cinnamon and oatmeal raisin. A few weeks ago I would have told you I don't eat refined carbs, grain, or gluten! LOL. so, they are massively sugary and not the kind of way I'd want to start my day! I had one in my car with water for breakfast. I had another as a midmorning snack. I had the third for lunch. 230 calories each.

I was tired, probably from being "jolted awake" this morning, on my way home from school. I was planning on eating a fast snack, practicing, going to yoga, and then going to a concert. However, I decided yoga will have to wait till tomorrow because I knew I wouldn't be able to fit in a fast snack and practicing before it. I also knew I should practice because I have a rehearsal I need to play in on Friday evening!

So, I was gonna just snack when I got home but it turned into a larger meal. I almost used up all my calories. I had 2 seaweed salads first. Then, 1 block of baked seasoned tofu along with a frozen package of brussel sprouts ( I love them). then, another block of tofu (160 calories each for the tofu) which was going overboard. I was concerned I didn't get enough protein lol and I was also just going nuts. Then, i finished the meal off with some pretzels. In total, the meal was 635 calories. I ended the meal at 3pm. this left about 175 calories for the rest of the night.

I then relaxed and practiced. I even took a half hour walk on the treadmill and then headed out to see my student in her high school band concert. It was very good and she had a French horn solo! I was very impressed by the chorus too, all of them were in the 9th grade. they were so in tune. sometimes, it's difficult with that age, especially with a small chorus like they were. However, this teacher was great and so were the kids!

I got home, took a 15 minute walk. I had another seaweed salad and 1/2 a block of regular tofu. 180 calories.

Total calories: 1505. pretty close to 1500!

To answer some questions:

Lily, yes I play the French horn! There are a few musicians on DD. Maria is also very musical!

BTC, thank you for the advice. You always give the "mature" advice and I appreciate it. It is definitely better not to spark a fire...to spark my mother by bringing things up that she won't go along with. Strange thing is, she brought it up to me tonight in a round about way. I came home from the concert and spoke to her. she made like she was uninterested and said she wouldn't talk to me. I asked why. She said she doesn't talk to people that are rude and yell at her (referring to what I did yesterday morning bc she didn't care about what I had to say about what happened in the car with my sister). I told her I was angry that she yelled at me and thats why I yelled at her. then, the argument, on a much lesser scale, happened again tonight!!!! I eventually said to her that I didn't know why she'd bring it up again, over 24 hours later, when I'd come to discuss positive things like the concert I saw. then, my mom poured herself some vodka. whatever!

so that's my night. Now i'm off to your journals.

by the way, i like all comments. I like that many of you are interested in what I eat or do or whatever else you may be interested in. It's good for us and really benifits all of us to discuss what works and what doesn't in dieting and life in general!

amanda8419 on 01/18/2007:
lol yes i love chocolate milk, which sadly has a lot to do with my situation now. When I was pregnant I would get up in the middle of the night, without realizing it and I would drink almost half the gallon. I was going through 1/2 gallon maybe a little less a day for about 2 months. Also when i was pregnant I would sleep walk/eat chocolate donuts without really being awake. It def didnt help me with the weight department

Runner on 01/18/2007:
HI, there! Good job on staying close to 1500 calories! You and BTC always inspire me to keep my calories low. And I'm glad your day turned out okay, even if you overslept. That's always a fear of mine, so now that I'm married I feel safer, since my husband sets a separate alarm! But when I was single, I was always afraid of waking up too late!

By the way, I'm fairly musical, too, even though I don't spend much time practicing anymore. In high school, I played the flute and piano, and then I picked up the acoustic guitar in college. I come from a family where everyone else is very talented in music...and I'm just mediocre. But that's okay. I actually like it that way. :) My dad also played the french horn, and so did my sister. So I know how to appreciate that instrument!! :)

Anyway...thanks for answering my question about diet sodas, and for taking the time to comment on my entry!

borntocry on 01/19/2007:
That's really funny - I also rely on my husband to wake me up for work, like Runner. So maybe that's what you need to do - get married!

Thanks for the comment you left me. You are so sweet to encourage me like that. You're right, I can't have a record-breaking workout every single day! I am going to try to remind myself of that from now on.

And thanks for saying you appreciated my advice the day before. It seems like your mother just won't let it slide, though! My mother did that to me a couple of times, too - gave me the silent treatment until she got an apology. But it's hard to apologise when you don't feel like you did anything wrong. I hope your mother is mature enough to get over this pettiness.

missingsmokes on 01/19/2007:
ohhhhh...moms eh, sometimes I feel like I am the mom in our relationship...she left my dad 6 years ago and has had 6 years of dating younger men....almost my age...some of them were younger...and she cannot take any constructive critism....so now I just let her come round....I am not going to take the games she plays....!!!!! You are such a healthy eater...don;'t think I could do tofu. lol when i was vegatarian for 8 years I relied on soya products, beans and because I lived in england at the time i ate "quorn"....which is ummmgood but dont know what it is (haha). I tried my red tea last night, mixed it with cinnamon, lemon and a sweetner...wasn't too bad....:).

sandrella on 01/19/2007:
Good job on pulling it together when you could've let one little slip ruin your whole day! :) Have a great weekend!

Jmarie60 on 01/19/2007:
I don't rely on a husband to wake me up, but my cat Thomas will bite me if I am not up by 7:30. I feed my cats first thing in the morning so when I am not prompt with their breakfast, they get a little anxious.

I LOVE the French Horn. I think it sounds so peaceful. I played the trumpet and tuba in high school, but haven't touched it since. Played a bunch of other brass instruments, but never the French Horn. I did date a french horn player. He was a good kisser ;-)

I love tofu, but don't really know what to do with it a lot of the times. If you have any suggestions or recipes, I would love to share!

I hope you have a GREAT day today!!!

geevee on 01/19/2007:
I agree with Biscotti's comment yesterday about getting your own place. So many fights that erupt w/adult children still living at home and either their parents or siblings are caused by situations beyond your control. It's difficult to avoid these altercations.

It finally dawned on me when I was 23 that I didn't need to take all of this any more, and that my life would be a lot calmer and simpler if I left, and I did. It was a great decision.

Hello everyone! WorkingIt points: 8!!

I had an overall nice day! I took the time to get some necessary work done on my own and now I'm more prepared with almost all the materials I need for a class I'll be taking. I had to order 3 CDs of pieces i'll be conducting. Luckily, two of the CDs are only 8 dollars each! The rest of the CDs that I didn't order today I bought awhile back when I found a website that had them! Seriously, they're really hard to find! Concert Band music is just not popular!

To those of you that are curious, I wrote about emergen'c powder in my last post. The taste is ok....not VERY sweet, because there isn't much sweetner added, it's NOT full of sugar. I like it, but people who LOVE having loads of sugar won't. I like the cranberry better than the mixed fruit flavor. that's all i've tried so far.

Runner, I don't think I get bloated from too much soda. However, my skin DOES get affected. It gets more acne prone and drier all at the same time! I look terrible when that happens and I guess having the diet soda the other day and stopping yesterday in combination with drinking a lot of water put a stop to any bad side effects of all the soda i drank!

Today's eating was very good:

Breakfast: one emergen'c, two eggs, one orange

Snack straight after breakfast: PB on two slices of bread and a little jelly....this snack was supposed to be two hours later, but I got up late...AND had a MAJOR fight with my sister and mom this morning:

I'll explain the fight: my mom asked me to drive my sister to the train. I said, thanks for asking at the last minute...but I said yes, of course. I would never decline. So, I drive my sister and she starts yelling when I make a right that I should have went to the left because it's faster in the morning. Now, how should I know that!? she kept talking and I said that she should have told me. Next, we are approaching a light and my sister says don't turn...I say, why not, we can bypass the school where the traffic is. (I did end up listening to her) She continuously yells and then yells to make a left and I say where???! the one way street!??! She was telling me ahead of time for that left, because she was frustrated with my earlier mistake.

She yells that she doesn't want me ever driving her in the morning again! I said, good, one day you'll have to walk if mom can't drive you! So, she keeps yelling, telling me where to pull over. So, i didn't pull over so nicely. I sped up and then slammed the breaks and told her to get out and that she's ungrateful.

just so you know, my sister was annoying me since I left the house to drive her. She's yelling "you're walking too slow..." I said, If i'm walking to slow, then you decided to leave the house too late to get to the train! I shouldn't have to rush to get her there. she should get up in time! I was not being slow on purpose...i wasn't being slow in general. she can be a major --- and I WILL NOT TAKE IT.

I get home from dropping her off. my mom is still home. I tell my mom that my sister was rude to me; and my mom yells at me! she won't even listen to what I have to say and doesn't care. My sister already called her from her cell phone while at the train and my mom heard her side and wouldn't take anything from me. she didn't care what i had to say and told me she knows how i can yell and behave. that seriously annoyed me soooo much! I told my mom that she was totally wrong and that she should be ashamed of herself. My mom almost never will take my side over my sister. she is an --- too when it comes to these arguments.

best part, my sister was supposed to work today and come home late in the evening. however, that was not the case. she didn't end up working at all after her class. so, she needed a ride home. I told her i don't drive home people who are rude and obnoxious. she never did apoligize. I even said at one point to her that I question why she'd debate the situation with me more if she was expecting a ride home! she said something I don't remember, then basically asked it i'd give her a ride. I said she'd have to ask nicer. lol. then, i said yes. It's like 20 degrees today.

I get in my practically new car, for some reason it had a problem and some dashboard lights were messed up. She ended up taking a taxi. then, my car did work. ugh! craziness!

Rest of the food today:

Snack: one cucumber and 1/2 cup of some shredded chicken with BBQ sauce. It's good...but too salty. I've been having more prepared foods and I literally taste the salt all day. I'm slowly lessening the amount of those foods that I eat. 140 calories

Lunch: package veggies, baked tofu 320 calories

Snack: 1/4 cup shredded chicken on one slice of bread

Dinner: seaweed salad, lots of brussels, 1/2 reg. tofu 305 calories

lots of tea today. some water. lots of liquids in general!

have a great day/evening!

Progress as of today: 1 lbs lost so far, only 9.4 lbs to go!

Dear Horn of Plenty? Do you play the French Horn? I love Mozart's concerto (I think in B flat). I used to play the violin but a bit rusty now. I do sing with a choir which I really enjoy. Lil.

LilyV on 01/17/2007:
Is that post readable? I was just asking if you play the French horn? Great job on the healthy eating. Lil.

borntocry on 01/18/2007:
Thank goodness your sister didn't make you crash your car with all her yelling and screaming. I hope you don't have to drop her anywhere again because it sounds like she's a danger to road safety!

I really feel for you when you have these fights with your family, because my family situation was very similar when I was growing up. My parents always sided with my brother because he is two years younger and even if I convinced them that the fault was his, they still insisted that I "should know better" because I am older. Also he was a tattle-tale just like your sister and quite often managed to get his version of the story in first, so there was just no hope for me at all.

The only advice I can give you is to avoid complaining to your parents about your sister, if you know they're only going to take her side. It will just lead to another fight with your parents and put you in an even worse mood. Maybe the best thing you can do when you have a fight with one person in your family is to be really nice to everyone else. That will help get them on your side, or at least make them less likely to side against you!

Just remember it could all change in a few years. My parents totally dote on me now and can't stop criticising my brother!

Umpqua on 01/18/2007:
Sorry to hear you're having family troubles - isn't that always the way? Your eating sounds great and I'm envious of your weight. I don't know if I'll ever see that number on the scale again! By the way, I'm only an inch taller than you so 112 is actually a great weight for me, or at least it was 10 years ago when I was your age ;)

Moody on 01/18/2007:
Sorry about the fight with your sister..I am glad that you stand up for yourself though!! I like BTC's advice about not talking to your parents about your sister when you argue, if they are simply going to take her side..it just upsets you more..I hope things smooth out for you today..Take care..

Family! AGGGGGHHHHH! Your sister and your Mother sound like they take you for granted. That doesn't feel good. any chance you will have your own place soon? I got along soooo much better with my family when I moved away from them - all those years ago - but I still remember! Good Luck and nice day on the food stuff, by the way! I remember just a few days ago you were saying how out of control you were - what a difference just a few days will make - good for you.

Last edit:

WorkingIt Points: 8!!!! yay!

Answers to some questions: I am 5'2". However, I am 24 and the only time someone told me I was 5'2" was at the doctor this year! haha! Usually, I'm 5' 1 1/2". anyway, I'm not very muscular, yet!!!, and I could use more toning. Therefore, a weight of 103....and nothing lower...would be the END GOAL for me...forever. I have weighed that much before and like it. It is definitely the lowest weight on the spectrum for me. However, if I am able to maintain 105, maybe my body will feel best there. Whatever the case, I know I could stand to loose a couple pounds still from what I currently am.

emergen-c packets are a brand of vitamin that is similiar to airborne, that tablet one teacher invented that you put in your water and it fizzes into it. Well, instead of tablets, these are packets containing a substance that looks like the kool-aid powder. However, it is very low in sugar and contains only healthy things and vitamins. Its good to take during exercise. I prefer it in the morning, instead of having juice!

Yoga was very relaxing tonight and I was debating going at first. I felt I wouldn't have enough energy for it; but that proved not to be the case and it was a lot of fun!

I came back and was very satisfied with my dinner. At first, I was thinking in my head I should eat something slightly different than I planned. But, then I ate what I planned and felt satisfied with my meal! Sometimes, when I make changes at the last minute, I run into problems. So, I'm going to try to stick to my plans for now on! I had a steamed eggplant made with garlic and papricka along with smoked teryaki flavored tofu. Dinner was very good, 290 calories. ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- Edit: I went to workout at the gym and found it is closed for the time being for renovatoins...they always do that around the new year at the university gym by me! I wish I knew that it would be closed before i went!

Calories so far: 1110

I had a snack: 1 1/2 cups of strawberries: 75 cal

Lunch: Lox - smoked salmon is the other name ...but we call it Lox in the northeast! Its a common breakfast item usually eaten on a bagel with cream cheese too. Lol, i like it just by itself; as well as served with a bagel and cream cheese. I grew up eating lox and like the taste very much! I also had almost 3 seaweed salads and by that point was sick of it! I did that in order to fill me up! I also had the rest of the cauliflower and broccoli I made yesterday for lunch.

I also had quite a bit of diet drinks...and spilled out half of the jazz drink I bought. Whenever I start drinking too much diet sodas, my skin gets bad and it makes me crave foods. therefore, I think i've had enough for awhile!

I've chosen to go to yoga at 6:15 intstead of 4. I'll update one more time this evening!

Total calories for breakfast and snack shortly after: 725 calories. That still leaves a nice amount for later, kind of! I plan on having a frozen vegetable package, lox, and some soy milk later.

Edit already: I delayed working out this morning. I went on to have a sandwich after breakfast: 2 slices bread, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 2 tbsp tahini and some jelly. It tasted great. 435 calories.

Hi everyone. I woke up REALLY hungry...probably more thirsty than anything. So, i started the morning with a tall glass of water with an emergen'c packet in it. It's all natural, very little calories.

Breakfast: one packet of emergen-c, an apple, toast with cinnamon and nutmeg, and an egg. Then, I had one more packet of emergen-c (instead of something like another piece of bread...which would surely lead to more eating!)...oh, then I had an apricot about 20 minutes later. 290 cal.

I am going to try to incorporate more healthy carbs and dairy back into my diet. My binges were all on refined carbs...cookies, chocolates. so, I might as well add in the healthier ones too!

Progress as of today: 1 lbs lost so far, only 9.4 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 01/16/2007:
Yeah, I have to have some of everything in my diet or I just wind up craving it like crazy. When I think about it I think all fod is good if we don't over do it. Even things like sugar if having a tiny bit helps us from binging on it. Just some thoughts. You really do eat very balanced and healthy. Just curious, are you really petite? 103 is awfully thin unless you are 5' tall or less.

moody on 01/16/2007:
I've been wondering what emergen-c packets are?? And what is lox? LOL ..I am sheltered!!!

I binged on cookies last night..finished them all off, figuring then they'd be gone..my binges are ALWAYS refined carbs.

borntocry on 01/16/2007:
Mmmm, that toast with cinnamon and nutmeg sounds so good. I'm getting really hungry now...

geevee on 01/16/2007:
How is it possible to eat lox without a bagel and cream cheese?

sasyredneckgirl on 01/16/2007:
Looks like you are starting the week off good :):)

WorkingIt on 01/16/2007:
Great idea on getting the carbs (healthy ones) Back into your diet! That's kind of how I did it when I was on a low-carb diet, when I binged...I did it on cookies and cakes UGH =)

Donkey on 01/16/2007:
Yes, good idea about bringing back carbs... That is something I will have to explore myself. I think you are right, that it will help with bingeing, etc. At least that's what I hope!

I love lox, too!!

Do you get really bloated when you drink diet sodas? I used to drink more of them, but I always felt so gassy and bloated afterwards!

Great job today woohooo!! Diet pops always make us crave sweets, it is all the artificial sweetners and citric acids....carbs are what we need! As long as we all follow the white death rule (lol)....no processed white carbs, (white rice, white bread etc etc_)....salt and sugar and white flour....will lead to our deaths in the end...haha very morbid of me he!....jk anyhow keep up the good work and thanks for the encouragment!

Sounds like you had a great day today! What are emergen c packets? Is it to flavour your water, to make you feel full, or is some kind of natural energy drink??? I think your doing great, you make such good food choices. I hope you are just as succesful tomorrow!

Hope you enjoyed yoga! Keep up the good work! :)

Congrats on the points and on keeping control of your day, that is huge!! So happy for you! I'm going to look for the emergen-c powder and give it a try. Have a great day, Horn!

(calorie counting, all foods, LOTS of veggies)
Weight: 0.0

WorkingIt points: 2 fruit/veg, 2 calories, 1 exercise, 2 water.

Total calories today: 1505...5 above what a wanted, but no biggie. I'm glad to be on track today. However, it was almost a no-go today with calories.

I started off the day nicely at 8am, with an emergen-c packet in my water, an apple, and an egg.

I followed that with lots of tea and eventually got hungry again by 10:30am. I had that jittery feeling...hopefully is was real hunger, not emotional hunger. I think it was real.

at 10:30am I had a seaweed salad, and a nice amount of broccoli and cauliflower and a piece of tuna steak. I was full. However, at 11:30am I went and had a SMALL CARB BINGE (I say small compared to my usual): a whipped mousse yogurt (I thought I was gonna have that and be ok, but it lead to other things), 6 cookies with chocolate hazelnut filling, and 3 truffles. So now, it just turned to 12pm noon and I had 1155 calories for the day spent.

I didn't eat again until 4pm when I had a seaweed salad before going to yoga at 5pm.

I got back from yoga around 7pm and had another seaweed salad, because it's so filling and a microwavable eggplant parmasean.

I am done with not having carbs and dairy. Too good. Maybe it would be good to eat only up to one microwavable meal/food product (veggie burger, for instance) per day to limit sodium. The eggplant parm was soo good, I have no reason to eliminate it from my diet unless for health reasons. However, I don't have any health reasons. So, I'm gonna keep on eating it and things like it.

I weighed myself after eating breakfast and it was a little more than 6 pounds higher than 106. I may weight myself tomorrow morning and start recording again, although I don't want to. Gotta face the facts. By early february I should be back to the weight I came home with right before January 1st. Maybe a little higher. I want to really be able to go back to it. I know I can.

As long as I drink water/tea I shouldn't have too much of a sodium problem, I don't think. I wonder if straying away from the no gluten/starchy carbs/dairy diet will make it hard to get back to where I was. If so, I might try it to some degree on and off. But for now, its off!

Thanks for all your comments. Runner and BTC, we're all in the same boat and I've been having similiar frustrations, especially with my focus on food lately. I hope going back to work will eleviate some of my issues; and NOT bring on more!!! LOL. It shouldn't, since I should just go in and have fun...starting this Thursday. (I thought it was last thursday, but I made a little mistake on that one!)

Goodnight everyone.

Justine6Robert3 on 01/15/2007:
You really do struggle with those binges. You sure eat alot of great healthy stuff. You eat alot of "Seaweed salade". I didn't know such a salade existed until I read your diaries! Do you actually enjoy it, it doesn't sound very tasty. I wish I could force myself to eat some of the veggies you eat, I'm sure my body would be thanking me!!

I think that you are right about eating some carbs and dairy. I think your body needs to have a little bit of something from all the food groups. Maybe if you allow yourself to have a little bit of it, you won't crave it so much.

By the way, you mentioned going on a date. I think you have every right to be picky, anyway if your not attracted that's something that just can't be forced, even if he's a great guy.

Going back to work should be a good distraction for you, maybe you'll think about food a little less. Your bio says your a band teacher, is that what you'll be doing? Sounds like a fun job, do you enjoy it?

Hang in there, its great that your able to get back on track even after having a couple bad binges. Thanks for all the positive encouragement on my diaries! Its kind of comforting to know I'm not the only one who never stops thinking about food!!

I try not to discuss it with family and friends because I know they are so bored with it. I am a little obsessive by nature but it can be a good thing in this type of situation, right?!

Hope you enjoy your yoga class!

amanda8419 on 01/15/2007:
Im not crazy about veggies. I can handle a regular salad, or carrots but thats about it. I like em raw, not cooked, and my parents always cook em. I bought a couple bags of carrots a couple weeks ago and forgot about them till they expired. This past friday i bought two bags of salad but just realized my dressing is way expired 8-(

I couldn't not have carbs..I get too goofy without them. Congratulations on having a great day!!

Runner on 01/16/2007:
Yeah, we are in the same boat! I find it difficult to give up carbs completely. I need SOMETHING starchy to keep me feeling full...like a sweet potato or some All-Bran. It's tough to eat a no-gluten diet...I'm learning that firsthand!

borntocry on 01/16/2007:
Hi Horn of Plenty,

I think going back to work will help you. I know that weekends and holidays are always the worst for me. If only I could get really engrossed in some activity which would take my mind off food, like reading a really good book or something. But it's hard to do that with my husband there. We inevitably spend the weekends lounging around watching TV and then there's always plenty of opportunity to get up and fix myself a snack. At least I can't do that at work, because I can't keep a lot of food here and I wouldn't want my co-workers to see me eating all the time and start teasing me about it.

Thanks for your comment on my diary. Of course I didn't mind that it was all about you, haha! I do that all the time too - leave someone a comment and then realise that it was just like a mini-update of my own! But sometimes the best advice we can give is just to share our own experiences and insights and hope they help. Thanks!

WorkingIt points: 5 (0 for staying in calorie range, 1 for exercise...no yoga today)

Hey all. My life has been a major food battle since the New Year! Today I binged. However, I do not feel totally out of control now and I still figure I can make things better. Like I say in people's journals, it's never too late to make a change. I'm working on it.

I ate so healthy at the beginning of Sunday morning:

Breakfast: 3 apricots, one emergen-c drink, 1 egg, and one seaweed salad. I was actually full before the salad but I had it anyway. 200 calories total for that big breakfast!

Snack after going for a jog/walk: baked teryaki tofu, apple, tomato: 270 calories.

I decided I was too tired from the exercise to go to yoga, since it would start in only an hour and a half from when I got back home after jogging and walking. I then fell asleep!! This never happens!!! I slept for around 1 hour.

After I woke up, I had a whole pound of frozen sliced peppers (only about 100 calories!). I wasn't even hungry when I woke up. arg. I was then freezing after consuming such a cold thing!

Then, I had some tea to warm me up but was still cold and the binge began....

I started with a microwavable eggplant parmasean...with cheese even though I've been staying away from dairy. It was VERY good. Then I binged on LOTS of "tam tam" crackers that are similiar to ritz crackers, tons of cookies with hazelnut filling, some caramel popcorn, and some tostitos. I also had one of those "whipped" mousse chocolate flavored yogurts. Oh, I also had some pretzels too. LOL.

I then went out to eat at a mexican restaurant on my date with someone I met through a friend this past Friday. I orderred a chicken salad with lots of grilled chicken but it also included some sauteed vegetables and dressing on the salad. I didn't realize there would be dressing. I definitely didn't eat the whole thing, but enjoyed the sauteed peppers and onions.

I hope today didn't go over 3500 calories. That is what I am recording for the day. Before I went out to dinner, the total was 3002 calories. As I said, lots of binging in the afternoon!

I did some calculations, and now my progress (or setback) will be halted 23 long days! yeah, 23 days is what it takes to fix my calories and adjust for my binging...which has been happening like every two days almost, steadily since new years!!! agh!

goodnight all, thanks for your comments. I'm still loving the seaweed.

My date was good. But, I'm not attracted to him physically. yeah, I do feel it's important to be attracted somewhat by looks. I may hang out with him in a group, but probably not alone again. We'll see. No point in leading someone on. and, although I don't date often, I still don't feel the need to go out with him again. He's a nice guy, though. Perhaps i shouldn't be as picky as I am?

I really want to fix my eating! I am sick of these binges. I don't want to add refined carbs in; but that mousse yogurt was soooo good. and pure sugar! Is that what I want to eat???

I'm not sure what type of diet I want. the carbs make me feel good after I binge! I'm gonna have to think long and hard. I'll let you know what I decide.

borntocry on 01/15/2007:
Hi Horn of Plenty!

Thanks for your comment, and for saying you missed me!

It's funny, I've been having quite a lot of seaweed lately as well, which isn't really like me. But it seems to be a pretty healthy food, with lots of protein, iron and calcium, for very few calories. So maybe I should make a habit of it!

I can understand your reluctance to add refined carbs back into your diet, but it might not be such a bad idea. I followed a high-protein diet for a while and lost a lot of weight (okay, just a few pounds, but for me that's a lot!), but I did find myself binging on carbs on a pretty regular basis. Now I aim for more of a balance and seem to binge less. (Although it's quite possible that the next binge is just around the corner, so you never know!)

Runner on 01/15/2007:
I love sushi, too! It's so cheap here in Asia. I can eat it all the time and it's so affordable. Thanks for asking about BTC and myself! It's just been such a busy time lately...I haven't been avoiding this site on purpose, but I would like to actually lose a pound one of these days and be able to record it!

Runner and BTC, I hope all is well!

WorkingIt points: 7. I was skimpy on the walking. Everything else was great.

Dinner: TWO seaweed salads, one smoked teryaki flavored tofu that I never tried and love, and a few grape tomatoes.

Total Calories: 1505, over by 5 or so. Not bad.

Now I'm back from yoga. I'm pretty hungry but don't have many calories left due to a rather large, but better than usual for this week, lunch! I just had one seaweed salad. Now, I'm having another. Anything that will really fill me up. I tried another seaweed today and it was horrible!! I felt like I was eating ocean water! I returned it and got my money back!

Tomorrow I have a lesson to give and then i'm going out to dinner with a guy my friend was nice enough to introduce me to. He's a nice guy and I had a good time hanging out with him Friday evening when a couple of my friends were there too. We'll be going to a restaurant around here. LOL, he even knows that I'm a little, or a lot!!!, nutty with food! He didn't seem to mind!

I may update one more time tonight, maybe not!

Goodnight everyone! _______________________________________

Snack before teaching a lesson: small piece of steamed tuna

Snack after lesson: whole pound of frozen sliced peppers

Lunch: 2 containers of brussel sprouts, bag of salad, smoked salmon (LOX), one grapefruit, seaweed salad (finally my order came in so I have a lot of them in my house now!), and 8 braided pretzels. for desserts, I've decided to incorporate some refined carbs when I like! LOL. I was satisfied before I had the pretzels, but I figurred I'd use some of my caloric budget on them!

so far today: 1245 calories.

I bought some really good foods today...smoked tofu, lox, some "pulled bbq chicken," lots of veggies, seaweed salad. I figure that for snacks and refined carbs, I'll eat what's readily available in my house...no need to spend my extra money...since I spend a lot buying things people in my house don't eat/want... when we have enough cookies/snacks here. I live in a very healthy house, but we have a cookie/chip often enough that i don't have to buy them.

For diner: I plan on having another seaweed salad, smoked tofu, and something else for 55 calories (I'm not sure what). Maybe just another seaweed salad..but that doesn't sound good. Maybe I'll have an orange. That sounds good. So far today, so good.

Breakfast, 430 calories: one low cal (not artificial) packet in my water, one apple, two medium tomatoes, two whole packages of nori (20 sheets total), one egg.

I had nowhere to be early in the morning, although I woke up at 6am! so, I had a little more food than usual, but I tried to eat foods that would take awhile and leave me satisfied and not craving more. It worked!

I teach a French horn lesson at 11am and I plan on doing yoga later at 5pm. I'll catch up with all of you during the day!

maria777 on 01/13/2007:
Looks like you're doing real good! Keep up the good work on you cals!!! Big Smile!

Hey all. WorkingIt points: 7. I'm not proud of how little i'be walked in the past couple days! I've got to improve my walking! Will work on that more starting tomorrow!

I stuck to 1500 today! yay! I ate REALLY awesome things and I am excited to do the same tomorrow:

Breakfast: 1 fizz drink, 1 egg, one apple

Lunch: 2 yellow peppers, 1 frozen pound of brussel sprouts!, 1/2 a package of tofu, 1 orange.

Snack: Carrots and tahini

Snack: 1 tomato

Snack: 1/2 block of tufu, some hummus, some guacamole

Dinner: one yellow pepper, salad, one tomato, lightly seasoned microwavable cauliflower and broccoli, some tuna steak.

I want to enjoy tomorrow's meals like I did today's!

maria777 on 01/12/2007:
Wow, looks like you really did TERRIFIC today with the foods you ate and calories!!! What is tahini? The tuna steak sounds delicious...how did you cook it?

Justine6Robert3 on 01/12/2007:
Sounds like you had a great day, good going! I've never tried tofu, does it have any taste or is it awful? The tuna steak does sound tasty! Tuna is one of the few "healthy" foods I actually enjoy eating. I totally understand the urge to binge. For me I am always tempted in the evening. I LOVE munchies, potatoe chips are definetly my weekness, oh and ofcourse chocolate. I try to make sure there is very little chocolate in my house, my will power can be very weak. It would be so much easier if my hubby would stop bringing all the "treats" home! I think I could be so much more succesful if I could convince him to join me in healthy eating!!!

Justine6Robert3 on 01/12/2007:
Oh, on the subject of boobs. I'm going to miss having the extra cleavage but I miss having slim thighs more! Hubby's always been a leg and butt kind of guy although I don't think he minds the little extra bonus up front. Time for him to say good-bye to the fun bags!!!

destiny on 01/14/2007:
Wish i could fill up on all those veggies, it would make dieting alot easier. Being in renal failure they control the amount of fruits and veggies you can eat. 5 servings total in a day. I think you're doing awesome. How does smokes tufu taste like, and where would you buy it. Is it high in sodium? I have to watch that too , thats why i had to quit eating alot of the meat alternatives.

5 WorkingIt Points...nada on calories

Yesterday's foods: Breakfast: 1 egg, two yellow peppers, one fizzy drink packet

Snack/turned into Binge: 1/2 package of tofu in car...when I got home: 2 tomatoes, carrots, grapefruit, cooked tuna steak, tahini (like peanut butter but made of sesame seeds), 4 piroulettes cookies, 6 jell cookies, 8 double chocolate truffles, 5 large m&m filled cookies.

Late after yoga: Large seaweed salad, entire light package of tofu.

Total calories: 2500

I didn't fight the urge to binge today, and binged. It wasn't as bad as a couple days ago. Today's calories are 2500. It's alright. It's over, tomorrow will be better. I'll explain what happened:

I thought I had to work today. I went to work and the teacher I'll be subbing for told me he meant NEXT THURSDAY!!! so, I came home. I wasn't upset at all, but I guess I was flustered and realized I'd have more time to get things done and not have to do it all on Friday. I also binged! I had a really healthy lunch, but it wasn't planned well. I didn't want the lunch I was going to have at school so because I changed my plans I didn't think soon enough and the binge came on. It started with chocolates and ended with cookies. blah blah. you know the deal.

GG, I guess you've been away from refined carbs so long..but do you ever think about them? what do you do to keep yourself from them? gosh, I love these healthy foods...I haven't even been loving the taste of the refined carbs! I don't know. I feel like I'm fighting myself!

weightlossyoyo on 01/11/2007:
WOW! You had a busy day today, but you are right it is over, you will do better tomorrow.

sasyredneckgirl on 01/11/2007:
its ok tomarrows a brand new day like you said we all have those ups and downs just cant stay in those ups and downs.. hugs

smiley2 on 01/12/2007:
I have a BIG problem with refined carbs too. I guess if you stay away from them long enough, you will actually start feeling sick once you eat them again. But i have yet to try it ;)

geevee on 01/12/2007:
I guess you could call my eating yesterday, a binge, though it didn't seem like one at the time. Everything a ate was "good" food; nothing processed. It's those darned carbs! (bread and tortillas/potatoes).Those calories add up quickly and I had as many as you did. Sandwiches are just as attracting to me as Key Lime pie and cheesecake are.

geevee on 01/12/2007:
Oh! Tahini is such a weakness for me! That's why I've stopped making hummus. Once I start eating it, it's addictive and I CAN'T stop. I LOVE hummus. It's so nutritious.

Fortunately I've been able to eliminate cookies from my list of dangerous foods, but if in a room with Pecan Sandies, there's no telling how many I'll eat!

At the moment, there are too many other delectable foods that I simply can't resist. I don't eat junk at all. Just regular, good food will do me in. I love good food. The worst part is that like BTC and GG, I have an appetite problem. I can eat and eat and never get full. I NEVER have that problem of feeling overly full or sick from eating too much.

WorkingIt points: 7! No walking on treadmill today, sadly!

Today I did nicely. I cought myself in that "feeling" I have before I binge. I tell you, it's one strong set of emotions!

Calories for today were 1210.

Menu for today: Breakfast: 1 egg, one water supplement fizz drink thing, one large tomato, one small yellow pepper.

Lunch: Seaweed salad, one full head of cauliflower, 1/2 a package of tofu, baby carrots, one pickle, and one apple. yeah, lots of food...great food!

Snack: Grapefruit...my body kept thinking it wanted more food...but I stopped there.

Dinner: Package of brussel sprouts (my favorite, I stick them in the microwave for about 6 minutues until they're soft!), 3 sliced red and yellow peppers, one cucumber sliced with oil and vinegar and spices, lots of tofu (although I just bought some cooked tuna at the store...I'll have some tomorrow!)

Big meals...I enjoyed eating all those healthy foods today! I plan on staying this way for awhile! Of course, it's easier to eat this way when you're having meals at home. Tomorrow I'll be having lunch at work...so it wont be like today's. It'll be more like carrots and tuna steak (a good filet, steamed - next time i'll get it seared..almost not cooked at all since it's the same tuna they use for sushi - which is raw - from the fish market!)

Busy day today with the plumber. we had a leak with our boiler today..I'm glad I noticed!!!! It's still not completely fixed, although for the moment it working!

weightlossyoyo on 01/10/2007:
Food intake today was great!

sasyredneckgirl on 01/10/2007:
HOrn you did great on fighting back those urges today even though it was hard.. it just seems to get easier each time even though every once in awhile we those "emotion" to bing, eat more get the best of us.. you did great on your calories

WorkingIt2 on 01/11/2007:
That is such good news that you were able to recognize those feelings before a binge and to halt the mental process that leads to the binge. What a fantastic breakthrough!

I found that if I give myself something to eat after my workout, before I go to bed..it helps me into the next day. So I know what you mean about that!

Seriously, I have a big smile on my face and even said "atta girl!" when I read this entry. I am so happy that you are taking control of the binge/starve cycle and that you will find so much strength and power because of it. Way to GO!!!
