I was really tired today. I went to bed around 1am and woke up at 6 for work. i'll update with a real entry tonight! ----------------------------------------------------


WI Points: 24. (no points for exercise and i had a semi-controlled binge at night before bed.)

Today was really good, and I could have EASILY kept calories lower than 1300 today. But, instead, I had a semi-binge late at night when I got home from music practice. I almost never binge at night, because I know it's such a waste considering i'm going to bed. the only good thing is that I will not wake up starving in the am!

Foods: Breakfast: egg, emergen'c, apple. 170

Snack: egg 70

Lunch, BBQ shredded pork, tomato, carrots 260

Large snack at home: 2 and 1/4 cups of fiber one, one cup of soy milk. two strained greek yogurts with the no cal stevia (flavored apricot and dark chocolate). total cal: 490

Snacks during practice: 2 bags of freeze-dried apples. 210 calories total

Binge at 10:45pm: 2 yogurts with no-cal sweetner, honey wheat pretzels, piece of fried tofu, tostitos. this cost me 590 cal.

Total cal: 1790.

I didn't get any exercise, so those calories are borderline too high for today!

otherwise, a good day with work.

I'm trying to learn how to save and wait for good times to eat high cal, denser food. I am trying to eat low cal (not today, obviously) for the rest of the week. I will be going out to dinner on Saturday evening probably. I plan on getting something carby and fatty. LOL, that's what i'm saying now! However, if the rest of the week goes well, I'm going to do just that. Lately, I've been thinking about pancakes a lot! LOL ok, goodnight. I'm gonna be majorly tired tomorrow! however, i am happy with myself and life.

That is what I am doing too. I think about all the holidays and fun occasions in life when I will want to eat what I like without guilt - like popcorn at the movies, or ice-cream on the beach, or my mother's chocolate cake. I would so much rather save my calories for those occasions than blow them all stuffing handfuls of dry cereal into my mouth after work just because I'm tired and bored.

You asked me a couple of days ago whether I ever worry about becoming diabetic. Well, a year or so ago I was experiencing some strange symptoms and was convinced that I was becoming diabetic due to all these years of binging. See, I don't know about you, but I was like this even as a child. I wasn't fat so I wasn't dieting or anything but even then I would go on major eating sprees. It didn't help that my mother is an amazing chef but saved her skills for the huge dinner parties which she hosted every few weeks. My brother and I would sneak downstairs after the guests had finished and we would descend upon the dining table like a swarm of locusts. So these erratic eating habits have been going on for me for many years now and I'm sure it can't be good. But hopefully the situation is finally starting to improve. The funny thing is that I don't even remember what those symptoms were which had me so convinced that I was becoming diabetic!

Thanks for your tip of Fiber One cereal. I don't think that is available here, but I will look for it. Might be able to find it in England. If not then I can always look up the ingredients online and try to find an equivalent at the natural foods store I go to!

Today was a good day. Productive.

Foods: apple, egg; egg; shredded pork in BBQ sauce; protein bar; large dunkin donuts Latte lite; peach; tomato; VERY LARGE SALAD, lots of Lox (smoked salmon), small head of cauliflower with papricka/garlic/pepper, and another peach.

Total cal: 1275. VERY GOOD DAY! :)

Thanks for your comment. I love the fake deli meat! The hickory smoked Tofurky tastes just like real turkey to me. But then, it's been seven years since I last had real turkey, so perhaps I have just forgotten what it tastes like. Unfortunately I cannot get Tofurky here, but I found a kind of fake ham instead. I've never had ham so I can't say how authentic it was but it seemed very meaty. I don't know what the point would be for a meat-eater, but for me, it's good for sandwiches as it's healthier than cheese and sometimes vegetables just won't cut it on their own!

biscotti, I'm looking for a band teaching job for the long term. I probably would look out of state if it came down to it. However, sometimes you need to get a different state license for each state you teach in. There are also states that do accept out of state certifications.

Today's eating was FANTASTIC. really healthy foods!

Breakfast: peach, one egg

Snack: Peach, tomato, 2 greek yogurts

Lunch: lightly seasoned and flavored carrots and broccoli, lettuce, one egg

Snack: Adkins Advantage Bar (this was the only "unhealthy" thing i had all day!)

Snack: Peach, yogurt

Snack: very large yellow pepper

Late Dinner: vegetables with green soybeans and another yellow pepper!

Total calories: 1285 or so.

I practiced the French horn today and I felt really good for doing so! I may have to play it at an audition and I know I need to stay on top of the game!


I think I may only weigh myself on the 1st of every month. I've had enough for the time being.

At this time next year, I hope I have a tenure track teaching position that I have done well at and will be able to continue the following year. Lately, I look at myself, 24 years old, in my mid-twenties, and wonder how much longer it will be till I will be able to live on my own. Earlier this year, I was paid as a teacher because I had a leave position. Now, the teacher I'm covering for is just using his sick days; and I am being paid like a substitute. I can't move out until I have something MUCH more permanent and with better pay. It's year number 3 since I finished my undergrad and now I'll be done with my masters this summer. I hope to find a job BEFORE summer begins. I'm doing everything I can!

I feel that I performed nicely last night at the band rehearsal I went to, thanks to the practicing i've been doing. I had a nice French horn tone and I should think about that tomorrow and make sure I get some practicing in before I loose it all!

Total calories today: 2390.


well, today started off alright. however, things went downhill at 2:30 when I had my late lunch followed by a binge.

Breakfast: fiber one, soy milk, apple, egg. 370 cal. Snack: chicken salad, carrots, red pepper, tofu. 280 calories.

I guess you can say I was a little bingy in the morning.

Snack: 100 cal balance bar.

Lunch: tomato, salad, portabella muchrooms, 2 yellow peppers, one whole eggplant and tofu. Then, 5 minutes later...I should have LEFT THE HOUSE!

Binge following Lunch: 4 servings of pretzels (440), one mousse yogurt (140), 2 cookies (200), and one cup of cottage cheese (240).

Total calories so far: 2240. could be worse.

lately, its one day is a binge the next 1-2 days I watch myself. then repeat. all January. eh, I would rather February be a little calmer food-wise!

I think as long as you are keeping track of what you are eating, you are fully aware of you're actions. So you do have some control of the binging. That's a start! I hope February goes better for you. Remember, it takes baby steps!

we all go through stages its just u have to recognise them and make up for the next day or week the more we resist and stop ourselves the worse we fall when we do i have had much worse binges !!

They say that you need 3 days to make a new habit stick. If you can get past the 3rd day, then the new habit becomes easier to stick to, e.g. quit smoking, stop bingeing, etc. I think you are trying to break the cycle, just having a hard time getting over the 3rd day. Keep trying!

I have found that it helps me to not be so hard on myself therefore if my eating is not perfect I wont feel as tempted to binge to punish myself for my eating not being perfect.

Not only are you feeling tense because of the rehersals, you are also tense because you have a strong desire to move out on your own. I've noticed that on the days that you do your Yoga, that you are in more control. Almost like because you planned a healthy activity for yourself that you stick to all the aspects of your healthy lifestyle. As far as being required to be out of the house at a particular age...one of my younger brothers lived at home with the parents until he was 28. Reason being, he had a mountain of student loans to pay off, and didn't start out with a high paying job after college. He eventually landed that job and was able to move out. It will all happen..just keep doing what you've been doing and it will all fall into place! Have a great day! =)

Thanks for the reminder about adding some fiber to cottage cheese and yogurt. I had gotten out of the habit. I like to sprinkle a couple of spoonfuls of either flax meal or wheat germ over the fruit and dairy. It's also good on salads.

You've been very busy the past few years teaching and working on your Master's, so don't fret. With the high cost of rents nowadays, more and more adult children are staying home because they simply can't afford to move. You most assuredly are not alone.

And here I am on the other side, having taken in my son and his two kiddies who are here every other week. This is the son who left home the minute he graduated from high school so it must be difficult for him to be back. An adult living with one's parents is not the ideal situation and does require care and caution to make it work, but it can be done. I'm just happy to be able to provide a cushion at a bad time.

I tend to eat worse if I see a loss on the scale too- which is why I put the scale away. It's like that loss gave me permission to have extra food- which I know is insane, because I work HARD for my losses, I shouldn't give them up so easily for crap food that makes it null and void and makes me feel like crap. Other than your after-lunch binge, you look like you're choosing good foods!

question, if I drink 8 glasses of liquids, does that count? for instance, do herbal teas count as water? otherwise, I will usually not get the water points.

Today, instead of leaving school right away, I stayed after for a half hour and finished lesson planning for next week. I feel so good and relaxed that I will not have to think about lesson planning all weekend! Maybe I should do that more often.

It is the end to a long week, my throat is a little sore. I just hope that it gets better overnight! I taught at school, then gave a lesson, then went to a rehearsal, followed by an outing to the nearby diner. I stayed on track today and even took a half hour walk on the treadmill.

Foods: Breakfast: egg/apple Snack: egg Lunch: chicken, carrots, tomato Snack: balance bar Snack: yogurt Dinner: tofu, seaweed salad, pound of peppers Diner after rehearsal: salad, vinegar, hard boiled egg.

Sounds like a great day! Good idea to finish lesson planning at work on Friday instead of having it hang over your head the whole weekend long. I find that if I put off doing something, it "nags" at me until I get it done. And that "nagging" feeling can grow into stress which often leads me to food, if you know what I mean.

calories were pretty good up until 4:30pm, when I ate dinner before my band rehearsal. I ate well, but then binged. It was out of major anxiety about rehearsal. I have done this ever since I started having these rehearsals, SEVEN years ago.

My calories for the day up until 4:30 were 840. I binged on 1265 calories worth of food from 4:30 till 5:15. Instead of starving myself after rehearsal, I came home and had a grapefruit and an eggwhite(although my stomach is still protruding!).

Total Calories Today: 2220.

I had kinda caught up on my craziness with calories yesterday, so of course I make things hard for myself for binging today!!! lovely, now I need to make some deficits again!

hmmm. that's about it. busy and content. Everything's alright, but exercise is slacking...

Howdy! I almost can't even remember writing here this morning! I wrote: "the pickles weren't pickled" LOL!!!! I meant, the PEPPERS weren't pickled, lol!

so, I ate well today. Although, from the hours of 3:30pm on my way home stopping at Wendy's for an awesome salad till 5pm, I ate a bit more than I planned. But, no binge! At first, I was going to prepare food once getting home, but sometimes I feel better buying food before I get home so that I don't enter my house frazzled and more prone to a binge.

I orderred a Mandarin Chicken Salad from Wendy's. It contains mandarin oranges, romaine, and chicken. I thought that's all I'd eat, but it also comes with roasted almonds and some crispy noodles in little seperate baggies so you don't have to have those ingredients in your salad if you choose not to. However, I also had this salad yesterday and today I was in the mood for those extra additions. so, the calories were a bit higher than just for a salad. ok, and so on!

Today was a busy day at school, the good kind of busy. I had just enough time to get done what I needed and I feel like I accomplished things. Always a good feeling!

Eating has been healthy lately. Mostly whole foods, some processed. It's a good balance and this weekend will be a little busier than normal which I guess will help me in the end. When I wasn't working, it was difficult for me to feel "accomplished." I felt as though I wasn't giving back a thing to the community; and only taking. For instance, I was going to yoga, something for my own benifit. But, what was I doing for others!? so, today was the day that I felt back into the true swing of things at this new elementary school. It was an all-in-all productive day!

I have to say, I have missed yoga lately!

ummm, food. Breakfast: apple, egg, emergen-c, water, tea.

Snack: egg. (I felt hungry, like I wanted more, and it took some pressure for those feelings to pass...this afternoon, I was sucked into those same feelings and did get more food.)

Lunch: Large tomato, baby carrots, bbq chicken salad.

Snack 1: wendy's salad; Snack 2: Dunkin Donuts Late Lite; Snack 3: greek yogurt

Late Dinner tonight: Seaweed Salad, red pepper, lettuce, tofu, tomato.

yesterday was a long day and my internet wasn't working so i couldn't even make a journal entry! so, good morning!

slipstream, yeah, like you I have an intense addiction to the feeling of euphoria or whatever it is when your body ingests a lot of food and your insulin is all over the place. by that point, i am usually confined to my house for a few hours at least until I can resume to my self and not have to simply sit at my computer or chill out so that I feel better after all that food!

the pickles were NOT pickled, thank god! I do like pickled foods, especially pickles, but, I'm glad I did't have a pound of them. they were just a bag of frozen red, green, and yellow pickles!

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and your struggling a little. I am also finding the last few days more challenging, I'm not sure why!! Its my birthday tomorrow so that means dining out and cake. I hope I can not go overboard with the food this week-end. I haven't yet ate out since starting this, so I'm hoping I can manage to exercise some self discipline!!!

You'll get back under control, you seem to be very determined to succeed with your food battle!! Hope your day goes well.

Yeah, the website was down last night. I am definitely addicted to sandwiches - I have had a turkey and cheese sandwich nearly every weekday for lunch since about the third grade! And I like them extremely plain - one slice of cheese and turkey. That's it!

I'm getting more and more obsessed over my yoga classes, but that's my personality - do something I like so much and so often that I'll eventually start to not like it all that much anymore!

I try to stick to veggies, fruit and whole grains in my diet while adding protein from fish or chicken. Of course, this varies a lot depending on my mood ! but all in all I do well on this eating plan. Your plan sounds quite similar to this, and I would definitely tell you to go for it. Heck, we can always change it up if we don't like it, but we can at least try it out for a bit, right?!

So, on Sunday, was that a pound of pickled peppers? Oh my - I am so relieved to hear that you, this tiny thing, can eat so much in a binge. I feel so much better! Thank you!! I don't know about this food or that carb causing my binges. I only have them on Fridays, regardless of what I start out with. It does seem that once I eat too much of anything with calories, it's so much easier to psychologically justify the eating of everything in sight. Can you relate to that? I see it as a need for something pleasurable. I think I haven't been getting enough sex - that's what i think. Either that or the food is providing something even the sex doesn't. It's filling some gap. What causes addictive gambling? Or compulsive shopping? I think there must be a similar root. What do you think? I'm rooting for you! Oh - and I love pickled peppers!

I am thinking of going on the unprocessed, unrefined eating style again. what are your feelings on that? I enjoy vegetables a lot, so that is not an issue for me. I think sugar addiction is my issue, and once i had a little, it was all downhill. I believe that i can allow myself all sugars still, like at parties and any kind of occasion that allows for them. meaning, those foods are not off limits, like i considered them from after thanksgiving until the new year.

I just want to say that i am not happy with my current eating. I went food shopping and bought lots of healthy vegetables and things. I will strive to eat a lot of whole foods from now on. They are what make me feel best. I ate terribly last week and came down with a stomach virus friday. do you think the sickness and poor eating were related? hmmm.

i'm struggling right now. I don't believe i'm looking for a fast fix really. I'm looking for a fix!

hi. my stomach was definitely not all better this morning. but, i woke up around 4am with an appetite. I kinda slept it off. then, around 5, i made some cereal, fiber one, two cups and one cup soy milk. soon after, i fell back to sleep.

I woke up around 8am and had an apple and then a yogurt.

shortly after, i had two pieces of bread with 2 tablespoons of pb and one tablespoon tahini.

i snacked on a pound of peppers at 11am and at noon I had eggplant and two eggs.

calories up to that point weren't even too bad for all that food: 1225.

then, i binged!!! yeah, and my stomach isn't even fully better. I don't know, but i'm having a really tough time. it hasn't gotten better, yet!

my dad had brought home a box of "godiva biscuits" which are all types of cookies with chocolate and nuts and stuff on them. I had two of one thing, 3 of another cookie, and 6 of a third type. then, I had 9 crackers in my house. I followed that by 4 mini butterfingers that i found. then, i followed that by a powerbar. don't ask!

ugh. what is my problem!?

total calories so far: 2900. and, i hope it's not more! i had to guess the calories in the godiva biscuits cookies because it didn't list them, not even online!

Did you take apart the Godiva box? Usually the calories are on a small square of paper, floating around in the box.

Just catching up on you..do you think your binge today had anything to do with starting the day out with cereal? Although it was a healthy cereal it's still high in carbs I would imagine...and I know for me that when I eat carbs with nothing else, I end up bingeing..

I think its a good idea to avoid processed foods for awhile. I did for this past week and felt GREAT. Last night I ate terribly processed foods and I feel soooooo sick today. I just wish I liked veggies as much as you do - I love fruit but that's lots of sugars!

Same here - I think sugars spark off a lot of my binges. Cereal and cookies are probably my biggest killers. If I were you I would just try to include some starches in my diet, like oatmeal, potatoes, whole grain bread, etc. to stave off the deprived feelings and cravings. But avoid the highly-processed refined sugars because those don't really fill us up and always leave us wanting more. And the calories add up really quickly too. Good luck!

I can tell you certifiably that refined sugars totally set off binges for me. Talk about a trigger! Very dangerous! I'm not so sure about the whole foods approach. I'm starting to think that the vegetarian thing is what is setting me up for binges. However, I cannot possibly entertain the idea of ingesting the DNA of over 1000 cows (ground beef) at this point in time. I'm going to give vegetarianism a little more time and re-evaluate after I'm done moving. But you seemed to be more in control when you had the whole foods approach. Don't you agree? Thats what I would look at, what was I eating when I felt the most in control? Because this bingeing thing has got to stop. Trust me, before it becomes something that needs an outside intervention to quit.

The best I ever felt was when I went on a detox. I gradually took things away for one week. I started with refined sugars. I'm a vegetarian so I didn't have to wean off the meat. then I stopped eating eggs. Then I stopped eating dairy. Then when the weekend came, I would drink water and organic, freshly squeezed juices. I also had organic vegetable broth. I had some wonderful teas as well. I exfoliated my skin, and did a deep herbal cleansing of my body and skin. After the weekend I slowly incorporated whole vegetables and then egg and dairy back into my diet. I ate whole foods and treated myself better. I only do this once a year and am very careful. I don't want to give my body a shock. I fell out of the routine because I was living with my boyfriend (now ex) and he wasn't very supportive of the idea and joked about it. So I went back to my old ways.

I don't know if you got anything out of that rambling, but if it's something you're interested in, maybe I could do it again and we can do it together via DD.

Hey horn.. ya know i cut out my white bread and no rice and no potatoes and it has helped me out tremendously opps and sugar as well.. and noooo diet drinks the aspertame and such is suppose to make your body crave things.. now thats not to say if something like spaghetti sauce has sugar in it i still will fix that i just dont eat much of it.. but it has stopped my cravings for chocolate so much and for other foods.. its not a total sugarbusters diet or a atkins diet just one my dr has made up... but i can tell such a difference i dont seem to crave those bad goods as much ...

Thank you all for your wonderful comments yesterday. I felt better this morning, but still not myself. I've been eating very processed, dense foods today. For breakfast, I started with cereal. I haven't made myself a bowl of cereal first thing in the morning in months!

Breakfast: The first thing i ate this morning was a chocolate truffle. boy did it taste rich! I almost thought i couldn't put another thing in my mouth...

then i had the cereal: cup of soymilk from a container that lists the expiration date as the middle of november 06 but that tastes and smells fine (maybe that's how i got sick, lol), one cup of raisin bran, one cup of fiber one (i'm not sure why this is in my house, because i sure didn't buy it!). so it took me awhile to finish the cereal.

then, i had the second chocolate truffle. after a little bit, i had two chocolates with cherry and cream inside.

LOL. It was a big breakfast. 650 calories. but, with my stomach feeling the way it did, i didn't know when i'd want to eat again! I knew i'd be teaching a music lesson this morning and posible one after that, for an hour. however, that person cancelled again this week because he was sick with fever!

I got home around 4 and had a seaweed salad. i didn't know if i could ingest any vegetables; and it took awhile to eat. However, i felt good after. I stopped by the health food store by me; and i was talking to a different woman who was telling me all about raw foods. she kinda made me believe that raw foods can definitely sustain a person and that's whats gonna get me better. However, i will not become a raw foodist any time soon!

after the seaweed salad, i had canned chicken noodle soup from the generous supply in my house. then, i kept thinking about having more chocolate, but went to have a banana. It was good; and now i'm having an apple. my stomach feels very bloated, but my mind is wanting some more to eat. so, i'm going with that right now!

thanks for all your kind comments, i'm definitely better than yesterday. hopefully i'll be 100% soon!

i also bought some echinacea tea, good for the immune system. It says to have 5-6 cups a day! I have a lot to go on that!

lastly, i bought a really interesting drink at the natural food store. i thought it was going to taste fruity, because it was colorful and packaged so nicely. however, it tastes like VINEGAR! It's called "Synergy," and its organic and raw. It's made from raw kombucha, which is a type of chinese tea cultured for 30 days. It also includes raspberry juice, lemon juice, and ginger juice. that's all. It contains 30 calories per 8oz, for a total of 60 calories per bottle. It also has a trace amount of alcohol, from fermentation (i guess because it's cultured for 30 days), lol.

Kombucha is said to support: digestion, metabolism, immune system, appetite control, weight control, liver function, body alkalnity, anti-aging, cell integrity, and healthy skin/hair. LOL, i guess the company can claim whatever it wants. I'm going to finish this bottle, even though the taste is something to be aquired, which i haven't done.

Interesting drink - the juice sounds good, but the vinegary taste... not so much.

I am also never sure what to do with things which taste and smell fine long after the expiration date. Like I've noticed yogurt tends to last a couple of weeks past the date, which is strange for a dairy product, but I guess maybe it's because it's already sour. The big question is what to do with the barely-touched packet of oat bran in the refrigerator. It supposedly expired about three years ago, but doesn't smell rancid at all. Seems a shame to throw it out...

Glad you're feeling better. You're right, I think these bizarre temperature fluctuations aren't doing anyone any good!
