Hey everyone!

Not a big entry.

I'm going to take a half hour walk, then have dinner, then do some studying and preparing for tomorrow - my school's concert! I have lots of work to do before the Holiday for my grad class!

also, i have to order chocolate music notes for my co-workers and principal as a "goodbye" and holiday gift! Personally, I wouldn't want this gift, but, chocolate music notes are cool anyway!

Today started off great. Then, I ran into some little problems: I didn't have any more blank mini video tapes to record myself with for conducting. After much deliberation in general to decide how my schedule would be today, in terms of taping myself conducting, I found myself snacking. I ate a lot, more than 1000 calories, before 11am.

Luckily, I found the tapes at an Eckerd and I was able to begin my project. However, I was supposed to go the the Dermatologist. I didn't want to go because I knew how long it might take to do the conducting. I ended up cancelling my appt and hopefully I'll get one real early tomorrow. It took me till 5pm today to finish the conducting, with some breaks at home in the house throughout the day! I was so glad to be done! However, I still have another whole piece to do. I can't do anymore right now, the brain is fried!

I met with the "health guru" today at the nutrition store and she motivated me to stay on track. She told me that its alright to be different when going out to eat and not to worry so much on this cruise what others may think of me just because I have my own food preferences. I believe she is right and that she did give me good advice; and not just because she works there or is a health nut herself!

I'm so tired. I have a lot to do this week and it's hard to think about!

ohhh, I had some diet snapple, a jazz drink, and sprite zero today. NOT good. I did't have soda since Thanksgiving! However, I may for now give myself the option of having what I want to drink on the weekend, although it's not healthy.

Edit: Cool, now I can have a nice background, thanks to reading Tourguidebarbie's entries!!! my weight was back down to 108.6 today, no complaints. I had a rather large, but satisfying and binge-free breakfast. Off to videotape myself conducting...I was once again too tired last night! ahhh.

by the way, breakfast was 2 eggs with salad inside 2 dried nori seaweed sheets with olive oil and a whole grapefruit (about 400 cal.) I just had a snack of PB and an apple. I will not binge!

edit: I had a really good dinner tonight! Salad greens with one small spaghetti squash mixed in and a double amount of tofu. I sprinkled papricka and pizza spices on top and had a whole grapefruit for dessert. VERY filling. in all, just under 500 calories. I can't stop counting calories! ahhh, this is bad! lol.


Yeah, my weight is up - I had a minor binge last night, but nothing compared to the weekend :) but I am very motivated to keep it low, especially because my average for this month is lower than today's weight!

We had a really good concert in front of the kindergarden and 1st grade! Next monday will be for the rest of the school and the parents in the evening! The kids impressed me and I'm happy for them!

I will be starting my next job in the 2nd half of January...which makes for a good rest after coming back from the Cruise and my responsibilities at this current job. I feel much better now!

Things are currently looking up! (even my weight, lol!) But, I feel good in general!

I'll probably update one more time tonight!

Friday, day 0! My countdown is OVER. Weight: 110.4, due to the excessive eating yesterday, I presume.

Weight is lower than the starting weight, though. That's good.

Because I binged yesterday, my eyes were all red and I was too groggy to videotape myself conducting for a class. I'm going to try to do that this Friday evening. Then, I will not have to worry about the first piece and I can concentrate on learning the other one...and just videotaping it! ahhh. too much!

Thursday, day 1.

I overate today at dinner, but not as much as Sunday. I presume today was over 2000, probably around 2260 or so. Not great, but also not 3000! Thankfully.

yeah, if I can't get vegetables for breakfast on vacation, I'll settle with an egg white omelette with veggies in it or something.Or just eggs, if need be!

Busy day at work today. Tomorrow is one concert.

I have a job almost planned up for January, at a different elementary school in the district! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time! I'll be "starting over" and continuing in someone else's footsteps. I don't want to mess up and I hope that he has set the music aside that he plans on using in the spring concert, because I don't think i'll be there all the way through June. The teacher is having some sort of surgery after the new year. I will discuss with him further tomorrow.

Alright everyone, I'll respond to your diaries shortly, but for now I need to do some work before bed!

Wednesday, day 2.

Good evening and thank you for the awesome comments today. BTC, you said it very well, to try to establish a balance on this cruise. I don't want to frustrate myself, but I fear that may happen a little. I've been eating vegetables with olive oil and an egg for breakfast and I'm unsure if i'm gonna be able to get the on the cruise. I'm not going to drive the staff crazy if I can't get vegetables in the morning, though. It would be nice!

Mattscat, tofu has a smooth texture and the best tasting kind of my preference is the most firm there is. If you look at the label, there are many consistencies, soft, firm, extra firm. I like the firmest, the light tofu that is firm is also good. You may want to start by stir-frying it with veggies and see how you like it. Tofu is very bland and takes on the tastes of the food/spices/sauces it's cooked in. Some people do not like tofu cold/uncooked/unseasoned. I do. They also sell seasoned tofu, which contains some salt, and I do NOT care for it at all! It tastes pretty nasty to me! Also, before you try cooking it yourself, you may want to order some if you go out to eat. Chinese always offers tofu dishes. Some good ones are: cabbage and tofu soup, tofu with mixed vegetables, tofu and mixed vegetable soup. Workingit, you may want to try that as well.

Moody, the reason I didn't want to have the PB sunday is because I wasn't sure if I would be able to stick to a reasonable amount, like I do when I'm working at school. Thank you for your help and advice. Maybe I should "make sure" I have PB every day. That might work to an advantage. Goodnight!

Hi babe,

If you can't get vegetables for breakfast on the cruise, maybe you could just make do with eggs. That should make a nice, filling breakfast for you. And you might even be able to have some tomatoes or mushrooms on the side.

And I think that's good advice on the tofu - it can be a good idea to try something in a restaurant first so one knows what it's like. Recently I've been experimenting with a lot of new stuff which I haven't ever tried before and sometimes I have absolutely no idea what it's supposed to look/taste like! I've had tofu before and I like it, but I've never cooked it at home. I just bought some for the first time last week and I'm still trying to decide how to make it. Apparently if it's frozen first and then thawed, it takes on a chewy, meat-like texture. Being vegetarian, that's quite intriguing to me, so I may try that!

Hey Moody - actually, peanut butter is something I eat every weekday here at school in the morning as a snack. However, on Sunday, I was trying to not have it that particular day last week, and that is what may have caused the binge.

Hey everyone!

I hope you all had a good day today. I'm happy that it is warmer again, especially because I have to stand outside at lunch duty!

Tonight I played in a concert at a community college...a few of us were payed a little bit to perform with them. The orchestra actually sounded very good! I was very impressed by what a community college orchestra could produce!

Tomorrow's another day at school. Giving lessons and preparing for the concert. It's getting real close! I'm making an announcement over the loudspeakers in the morning to tell all Jazz band students with solos to practice every day until the concert on Monday! Anyone have any advice on getting kids to practice even more!?

Sadly, fitness is not something I was able to concentrate on recently. too bad I won't look my best on this trip. some other time I will!

Tonight I had an entire eggplant cooked over a little lettuce with olive oil. I also had a "tofu steak" which is a really firm piece of tofu that is quite large and that's what the package calls them. They are very hearty and satisfying, unlike the usual tofu you find in the store. Dinner was great and I had a small apple after. It got me all the way from 5pm till bedtime.

I wasn't surprised when you commented to me about having peanut butter on the brain before you binged..I noticed from your past entries that peanut butter is something you really seem to enjoy and then it was suddenly cut out of your diet, so I wasn't surprised that it was something that you really caved in on.

What to do about it? I am not really sure..I have certain foods that are like you and peanut butter. The best thing I guess would be to allow that food into your diet in small amounts so you don't feel like you are deprived of it..you may not even realize you are feeling deprived but your subconscious knows better!!

I can't remember when you're leaving for your cruise, and I've never been on a cruise so I have no idea what the food is like, but in all such situations I think you just have to try to strike a balance so that you don't feel too deprived to have a good time, but don't overdo it so much that you end up regretting it and ruining your nice memories of the trip. Since you do seem to like healthy food maybe now that you aren't counting calories as strictly as before, you can try to fill up on healthy options and then you won't have to worry so much about overdoing it on dessert.

OH! I didn't know you were still having PB in the mornings!! Maybe you should just allow yourself to have it daily then and see what happens! Time will tell! It's all about trial and error and seeing how your body reacts!

I have never had tofu in my life, what does it taste like? I am curious and trying to think of some new things to make. As far as getting kids to practice, I never really had a hard time dealing with it, my daughter just always loved playing and was always wanting it to sound perfect when having a recital. I think a reminder will do just fine though. Have a great evening.

Monday, day 4.

well, weight is a little up, but it will probably be up more tomorrow morning.

I had a really good rehearsal with the band this morning and the kids really helped me out a lot. I guess when you have such a select group, it's hard not to have things go pleasantly well!

Eating was difficult in the morning and afternoon. I feel like I was having some after-shock from yesterday and it was difficult to get back into some kind of normal mode after a binge. 16 days is, sadly, a lot of days for me to go without binging. It's a hard to break habit, probably like smoking or something. I am a food addict!

I might have had a little too much carrots and dip (babagonoush (grilled eggplant with mayo and other spices) this afternoon. I figured I would eat it until I was satisfied because I realized I was hungry and couldn't concentrate on my work or anything.

Lunch was not that great, breakfast was not that great, and dinner was terrible. The spices and seasonings I used, ranging from garlic, pizza spices, black pepper to vinegar and also bragg's (an amino acid based soy sauce) just didn't cut it. I still ate most of everything though. I destroyed the brussel sprouts I made for dinner and they tasted terrible!

Better luck tomorrow, red peppers...

Yeah, I am also a food addict. I think it's a much harder addiction to break than smoking, because we can train ourselves to think of cigarettes as taboo but we can't do that with food - we have to eat. So we have to learn how to limit ourselves. And at least tobacco comes in tidy little "serving" sizes whereas with food it's not that easy to tell how much you've had. This is why I have to count calories, even if it's just at the back of my mind, because otherwise I tend to eat far too much. This is why filling up on fruits and vegetables as you've been doing lately is such a good idea. Even fats, like peanuts, peanut butter etc. aren't that bad because they do help you feel full.

I think you're doing pretty well. Even your recent binge was so healthy compared to previous episodes where you ate entire cakes and pies in one sitting - remember that? At least on this diet when you consume a large amount of food you're actually consuming a large amount of nutrients, and not just empty calories.

Monday, day 4, 109 lbs.

Edit: Sunday ends around 3000 calories. I know I'm not supposed to be counting calories, maybe that's why I binged?

First binge in 16 days. arg!

edit: so, no yoga.

instead, I had my first binge since Thanksgiving or so. I binged on 4 bananas, like a half cup of dried fruit and mixed nuts, a half cup of salted peanuts, a piece of chillean sea bass fish, 2 apples(and 2 more later in the day), and TONS of peanut butter, like at least 10 tablespoons. as you can see, the binge was in all foods i can currently eat on this new diet.

so far, my calories, estimated, are: 2725. gosh, dumb move so close to my vacation in two weeks. I just kept going. I am anxious about learning my conducting score and going to work and class tomorrow. so, once again, i stuffed myself thinking it'll magically help me concentrate on all my work. hmmm, not so much.

i just screwed myself, that's all. I will probably have some dinner tonight, unless I feel so incredibly sick, which is never the case by then. It's only 12:30pm. Tonight i'll probably have salad, brussel sprouts, and a piece of tofu. It must be sickening to you to see that I'm still thinking about food now. Yes, my stomach is hurting a little.

I guess as long as in the next few days (but to balance out 3000 it's not exactly easy...it'll probably take till Friday morning if I include yesterday) if I maintain how I have been eating, everything will be alright. I ate all the above food in one hour. I can't take back what already happened.

I guess I didn't do good food planning today and it sent me on a binge.

well, it's sunday, day 5, already!

Today I am going to Yoga even though I am nervous I might not get everything I need to do done today. But, I should be able to, since I only need to give one lesson in the afternoon!

The concert yesterday was pretty successful and the chorus and children's chorus sounded nice with our orchestra. Their conductor is a little out of it though! He needs come conducting lessons!

I went out to eat during our break between the rehearsal and concert with two other people. There was a diner across the street and I got a big plate of steamed broccoli, a garden salad, and two poached eggs. It really filled me up nicely!

Your thinking on my food problem is totally correct. I just can't lay down the law and tell me son not to bring home such heavenly delights that I would never in my right mind spend the money for. I am talking REAL, gourmet items.

I daren't ask about Christmas dinner, though I hope he's able to wangle another meal. It was so nice not to have to cook and worry. Everything was already taken care of.

Being able to stick to your diet is something I used to be able to do. If not, I never would have lost 40lbs. At the moment, say, the past year, it has been one, huge struggle that gets ever more difficult.

As for that upcoming cruise - BEWARE of the forced feeding mentality shipboard. Because you are a captive for so many days and have paid X amount, the normal thinking process is to take advantage of the food you've already paid for. BAD MOVE! A friend of mie vowed never to go on another cruise because, "I can't afford to gain a pound a day that I do on a cruise."

That can be a BIG problem! You're so limited as to what you can do that"all you can eat buffets" become extremely attractive, and then you get into the mindset of waiting for the next eating opportunity.

The cruise could very well destroy all the progress you've made plus set you back even farther. Concentrate on the physical activities afforded.

What were you thinking about before your binged? I mean had you been thinking about the foods you binged on? I know that in my past binges I became obsessed with the food until I had it. Just curious if you had peanut butter on the brain before all this or not.

Monday is a new day..dust off the crumbs and move on..you can do this.

The diet that I am getting ready to go on in 2007 calls for one cheat 'day' each week. I don't think I can do that, but they actually tell you to have a day of cheating and NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. Easier said than done, isn't it? But, I find that when I have those days that I don't fret over every single calorie or every second of exercise, that it gives me the mental rest I need in order to refocus. I think I am still a fan of the one cheat meal per week or one cheat DAY per month. Hmmmm....

Edit: my errands took so long this morning that I practiced conducting for about 5 minutes, didn't practice the horn at all, and didn't do laundry. ahhh, and no walking, it's too late and i'm too tired.


Saturday, Day 6!

Today I have a few errands and laundry to do in the morning. I need to go to the bank and I'm on a search for the cooked fish store nearby. After that, I'll practice the horn and some conducting and then go to my rehearsal and concert. I plan on taking a half hour walk tonight when I get home.
