dinner awards ceremony tonight - didnt count.

2150 or so.

still recovering. haven't driven my car in awhile, so, will do that today.

headed out around 10:30am to go to a free tap dance performance at a library that is 15-20 min drive away. i prefer to go out, than to stay home.

Sine i'm going out, i will pick up some fruit on the way home also...means i should put my clothes away that are on my cart  that i bring with me when i go shopping - for bringing groceries up from my car...

Then, i'm coming home for lunch & staying home. I am thinking to do a weights workout around 2pm since i have time. I want to do all the weights lifting in a sitting position, not standing like i was doing.

Tonight i signed up to go to a dinner held by one of the union clubs. i'll be going with Ricky, the only reason i am attending actually because i wouldn't go alone. it's a dinner/social event. it's also FREE...that's kinda nice, i'd say ;)..it's pretty local and later on it starts at 7pm, so i need to be ready around 6pm...and get ready around 5pm for it...ok, glad i wrote this out.

after typing the plans, seems my day has more going on than i previously thought.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

I'm a little behind in commenting. I'm glad to hear that you tried the Express Bus. I think you'll find it worth it - at least for now as you are healing. I did a similar thing when I worked in downtown Chicago. I could take the L (elevated/subway) or the commuter train. The train was more expensive but completely worth it. Better seat, smoother ride, more reliable in winter, ran a set schedule.

Did you get your stationary bike?

Your day sounds very fun-filled and enriching!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
At this small library concert that i went to, a retired court officer sat in back of me - you can see he had a career of health physically bc he might have had a small stomach, but he looked better than most and had high energy levels.

i got the stationary bike, rode it last night. i had some small pain in my left leg though...from riding it - it was aggrivating my shin splints. i won't ride it today...

grannyannie on 09/21/2019:
Lifting weights from sitting is a good idea, works the same. A tap dancing performance sounds fun.

Yes, let your legs heal. Don't push it. I overdid with my shoulder injury and regretted it.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2019:
thanks, Annie. I guess i just need TO LISTEN to my body..

BearCountryGG on 09/21/2019:
It's good to start your car at least once a week...we learned the hard way with my Moms van...the battery died.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2019:
thank you for the advice...i should try to move it each week, indeed!

Donkey on 09/21/2019:
I hope you have a fabulous upper body workout. You have lovely, strong, defined shoulders, back, and arms. Right now, play to your strengths.

And honor and pamper your legs as much as you need to, whether it's a light rub, or some oil or lotion, a roller. The bike will always be there; your legs need your love and care now.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2019:
thanks Donkey. I am so upset over it, but i know i just have to move on.

grannyannie on 09/22/2019:
I know how you feel. I got really depressed when I couldn't do anything involving my shoulder. But it has to be done. It will get better!

kombucha tea 60

breakfast with healthy intentions: wrap and egg 200, avo 150, coffee 50...and a dunkin donuts french cruller 200 from coworker.!!! it didn't taste all that wonderful, but i ate it because it also didn't taste bad! LOL.

700!!! even before a snack....i guess french crullers shouldn't follow a full breakfast, lol.or at least, not a WHOLE french cruller (portion sizes matter!)

snack: almonds

lunch 1/2 a HUGE burger 400 with salad 50/dressing, grilled asparagus 100, few fries 150, croutons 100.  800

snack: apple/banana 250 had a banana on the bus bc I was motion sick on the way home

dinner:smaller  burger 200? On wrap 120 leftover turkey 80, salad 100, ice cream 200. 700

2700 - unplanned lousy count but overall is prob ok for the week...

weekpy avg: 2050

(will prob be a higher cal day, but that's OK as it will average out)

took the express bus and was on time, magically. really, i need to take the earlier bus if i really want to be on time, but the earlier bus is a half hour earlier....might be time to change my hours...i should take the express bus for the rest of the month.

i'm taking the Express bus so i can sit on the entire commute for now. it's double the price and a little longer ride. (the other option is bus / train which is actually faster and cheaper, lol)

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

BearCountryGG on 09/20/2019:
Personally...I have never met a french cruller I didn't like!!! The express bus is probably better while you are healing!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
yeah, it prob is.

grannyannie on 09/20/2019:
Maybe you can change your hours to make your commute easier?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
yes, i may be able to do that or else i may just have to show up to work early...and leave a few minutes early.

yes, i am sure i could quietly shift it a little bit.

i do prefer to take the bus/train which is a lot faster - the bus ride is so long - one hour at least in my seat without moving. the other way, the local bus is 20 min, the train is around 25 min...it goes by so much faster...i hope to feel better and go back to it at some point.

Still not overusing my legs, but they still are burning on the sides a little and my left ankle is def feel abused. i stood on the subway today, no seats. still a hassel for me to do. I just have to rest and start at scratch when i feel better. Still i haven't tried the Express Bus because you need a different metro card that i didn't add money to until last night. Today i'll take that bus home, i've decided..and tomorrow i'll take it to work. we'll see how sitting (there's always seats) on the bus going to and from works instead of a bus and train that i stand on. I hate right now how i am so dependant and how my body feels as rigid as someone who is 75 when i'm 37. i don't understand it...but then again, i do. i overdid walking for a few consecutive weekends and this is how my body reacts.  It's very frustrating to me. I just don't have the musculature of an athlete let alone even most people my age (in my legs, i'm talking about). my arms are actually stronger than most people my age. just frustrating all of it.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/19/2019:
Is it shin splints that you have? I know those are painful. Or is it muscle?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
it is shin splints, but with that, it means the calf muscle is both tight and weak.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
additionally, the left ankle i broke is weak right now.

so, i guess it's 2 things.

BearCountryGG on 09/19/2019:
You have a tiny bone structure....maybe arms are just going to be your strong point...we all have body limitations...heredity and build count.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
yeah, it does.

legcramps on 09/19/2019:
I understand how frustrating it can be to not be able to forge ahead towards your goals. Rest, recover, then try again. That's all you can do. Once you accept where you're at - it will be easier to progress forward. My suggestion would be to start a lot smaller - shorter bursts of cardio rather than trying to tackle a bike ride, a walk, everything in the same day.

Also - I know you love working your upper body, but it's just as important to ensure your legs are strong and ready for the pummeling they take during high intensity cardio. It would be prudent for you to incorporate more into your leg workouts. Just an idea!! Take it or leave it :)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
you are right about getting legs strong before cardio.

i appreciate your suggestions.

i feel though, that i have to WAIT before i TRY AGAIN due to needing recovery time.

i tried the home bike last night, not sure if it helped or hurt. my right leg feels great, but left one burns a little on the outside shin...we'll see.

Donkey on 09/20/2019:
You are right to focus on focusing on your lower body. Maintaining one's mobility is so important, especially as we get older.

I love the idea of shorter, frequent sessions for leg cardio. Also, perhaps start doing the exercises you learned in physical therapy again.

This whole scenario has me thinking that you might need to shift from hard workouts (duration, heavier weights) on the upper body to very focused exercises that seem small scale, on the lower body. Does that make sense?

It would definitely be a shift.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2019:
yes, it seems healing needs a shift from me...appreciate your comments. i feel as though i'm "spinning my wheels" lately in life/career/exercise.

i am even spinning my wheels on DD...feeling like i need a break here too. not because of anyone, just for myself.

i like to record calories, maybe i'll just write about life/other situations on some days but not all.

At the club meeting last night, the only reason i was there is because i do not want to continue saying no all the time i guess. my father was there. i was sworn in as a member. the members are all mostly really old, my father's age. it's hard to get new members there. i am not looking to be a leader, though, in this club. with  my injured state of my left ankle/shin splints, obviously i should just stay here at the union to work and hope for the best / try my best. it seems court officer is a dream but not reality. it's hard to realize this, although it is obvious i'd say.  all my life, i didn't enjoy sitting, but all my life it's what i do.  when i used to play the french horn in multiple groups, practices would be at least 2 hours long if not much more. sitting. then i got this job, and exercised so much at first because i wanted to move and not sit. but every time i push not to sit, i just sit some more. now i went to the club meeting, more sitting last night. but thing is, if i went home, i'd be on the couch anyways. perhaps it's just time to take the possibilities open to me and stop running from them.

grannyannie on 09/18/2019:
Hang in there, you'll figure out where you belong.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
thanks, thanks also for the information.

once again, i have done too much too soon with the cardio. so once again, i have to be patient and let my legs heal. i wanted to be a court officer, but it seems that dream is over.

BearCountryGG on 09/18/2019:
I'm sure the change in plans is disappointing....but maybe it is a blessing in disguise....it will probably take a lot of stress off. I can see why you need to go to the meetings since your Dad is going and you don't want to dissappoint him....it kind of sounds like as those older men retire...the club may just dissolve and then you won't have to worry about that...luckily it's not meeting too often so it's somewhat do-able.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
yes, maybe a blessing in disguise. a guess there's no more of a push to get my cardio to a certain level and no more push to even lift the heaviest weights. Now, i'd say it's a push to regain my health and just stay healthy. To work as long as i can in this industry. that's it.

as with the club i was talking about - the union was built on people "showing up" and putting in the effort i guess to do more and show up when they were asked to. this particular club is the oldest one in the union for the NYC area. It's been around almost 100 years. it shows an end to the era - and end to people thinking they need to put in extra hours outside of work, after work, on weekends to clubs and other affiliations. people are more interested now to spend time with family or do their own hobbies. it's scary to me to see that many things like these types of clubs are dying. that's why they were so happy to take me in as a member. but also, it's a religious club...and we all know that being affiliated in religious houses of worship / church / temple is dying too in this tri-state area. maybe it's the religious aspect that shows a slow death and not just that members no longer want to show up. also, the club meets in Queens in an area where electricians have MOVED AWAY from. no longer does everyone live near where these clubs meet. people live in MUCH MORE diverse areas and it's harder to come to a club meeting after work on a weekday, i guess. there's so many reasons...but yes, it seems a slow death which is startling and sad as i hope it doesn't also link the the electrical union's death one day (non union electrical companies are now taking over somewhat in many types of projects instead of union). a lot of info, i know.

BearCountryGG on 09/18/2019:
I think I see now that it is a group made up from the union members.....( I'm familiar with unions, D was in the Detroit Carpenters union )....but I'm not aware of clubs witin the union though there may have been. But apparently it is voluntary and if it isn't convenient any longer for so many. Unions built this country...I sure hope they don't get over run by non union groups.......but I can also see that trend here in Michigan.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
EXACLTY. it's all a scary thought of what's to come and further changes going on in the country which have the power to change the middle class around in ways that may not benefit people such as myself.

but yes, the trend around the union areas, of unions not having as much power, yes.

and yes, it's a club within the union.

evening: tbd - have a meeting to attend tonight, might be some free dinner. promised i'd go to the religious club dinner - a club in the union - it's a meeting - and i promised i was going to join the club as well. must attend.

problem with trains on commute so i was standing extra. legs haven't had a chance to get better yet, but i'm laying low on any unnecessary exercise until October. so frustrating. i may go back to weights soon and i may just close the door on the court officer thing soon.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/17/2019:
Is it mostly shin splints or other problems too? :-( I'm sorry you are going through this.

Well... I still hope that you will derive pleasure from your new exercise bike, especially in the winter. The leg workout that you get from a recumbent bike is much different than walking. And the winters can seem so long...

It sounds like you do have some soul searching to do. It was a hard realization when I came to the conclusion that my running days were over. I still feel the urge to tempt my fate... oh but the risk of hurting my back --- not worth it. We'll see.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
yeah, i will have to give up the court officer dream at this point. my body will not magically improve and it's mostly about maintenance at my age, not improving to be a runner i do not think. it's like what you said. i will have to move on...

it's mostly shin splints, which are caused by also imbalances, like my left ankle which is also in pain. i guess i will not be running.

grannyannie on 09/17/2019:
Hope you leg pain eases up.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
thank you, it seems i will have to overcome it and that it will take awhile (a few weeks).

I had plantar fascitis once - it was miserable.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
i can imagine. these bone situations are the worst in the lower body, since we need to move our lower body often.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
yes, this is my darn experience now for sure. you hit it on the head :(

grannyannie on 09/18/2019:
I had plantar fasciitis 3 times but due to prevention that I practice I haven't had it for nearly 4 years now. Anyone need advice I can help. :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
yes, what is your preventative measure(s)?

grannyannie on 09/18/2019:
I tried tennis ball, and exercises etc, but didn't work. So I bought one of those braces you wear to bed (Amazon) - keeps your foot straight instead of bent. At the time only had PF in one foot. Then NO going barefoot EVER. Always have arch support. I have PF sandals, slippers, trainers with arch support and orthotic inserts for shoes without built in arch support. Nearly 4 years since I had it.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
thank you so much..i do have one of those boots at home for sleeping - i should find it.

thank you also for the info on importance of arch supports.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/18/2019:
it's all too bad that my legs are this aggrivated, this easily. oh well. it's time for me to move on ;)

My legs are very beat up. yup. they were getting that way over the course of the week, i think initially started by both the 5miler one weekend and then the labor day parade with much additional walking last weekend then all the extra cardio this week followed by a lot of walking yesterday.

it all did me in, now i have burning legs. more than anything, it may have been two weekends of long walks.

after talking to a couple people, i'll be laying low this week again....and once my legs are better, i will do more training again, but half as much.

if i continue to have leg disturbances, i will quit thinking about court officer.

this type of pain isn't new to me, it's not at its worst, i just need to rest my legs.

I still have walking on my commute and standing. a lot of both. so, it's not like i can quit it all totally. however, it also doesn't mean i have to push extra. so, for 3 weeks until 10/7/19, i will do less, again.

- i will keep my leg strength exercises going though, anything that doesn't give me pain, i will continue to do.

the bike, indoor stationary, will be delivered today.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/16/2019:
Do you do a lot of stretching after running? I find that when I don't that I get really tight muscles.

Enjoy your new bike!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/16/2019:
i do a little stretching, doing a bit of foam rolling these days on my calfs which helps.

i find myself frustrated getting the same pain issues again. seems i cannot do too much walking (i am not running at all and i wasn't running before either) without an overuse injury. it seems i cannot get past injuries with my legs...soreness and burning from overuse. it's a big disappointment.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/16/2019:
i will enjoy the new bike, for sure.

Maria7 on 09/16/2019:
Get some rest. Hoping you feel better.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/16/2019:
thanks, shin splints are the worst.

grannyannie on 09/17/2019:
I won't run any more as I find it too easy to hurt myself. I do the treadmill on a fast walk or power walk outdoors, but no running.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
i hurt myself walking, that is the scary part.

Donkey on 09/17/2019:
When is the court officer exam?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
there's one exam written, coming out in Spring. the next one is 5-6 years after that one.

the fitness tests will be probably this time or a little earlier in 2020 after the written test in the Spring.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
the scary part is my legs were hurt this time around from walking too much.

bearcountrygg on 09/17/2019:
I got an ingrunial hernia from jogging...that stopped that pretty quick....I've alwayss heard that walking was the best anyway.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/17/2019:
the problem is my injury this time around is from walking. i haven't jogged in a long time (a year)

1950 2-day

So i bought these seasoned pork patties in the meat produce section. didn't read ingredients till i got home - has some MSG. tasted them, they taste ok. so i'll eat them, rather them throw them out. of course i won't buy them again, but they tasted really good after being fried in the skillet, stove top.

Took my walk in AM, just like 15 min...crazy how i tired i get from a walk...glad i'm continuing my exercises in AM. Got laundry going too.

Getting food prepped - the pork i cooked up as a meat for the week, i have a few eggs already cooked for now from last Sunday that i didn't eat yet,

i have some fruit - enough for the week although i may supplement during the week with more,

i cut up my lettuce head that is still good aside from a few outside leaves from Misfits delivery 1.5 weeks ago, and i'm going to also cook up Frozen veggies. I no longer buy many or any veggies at the market now that i have Misfits delivery. it is convenient and when i run low on fresh veggies, i realize i can use frozen on those weeks and/or pick up anything else i want at the supermarket, but in terms of prep, frozen that i already have at home comes in VERY handy rather than extra trips tothe supermarket for produce....

I only get Misfits every other week, because each week is too much. so on the second week, i figure i'll start supplementing more with frozen things i have at home that need to be used up, too. and i still have my leftovers that are frozen..!

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/15/2019:
Isn't it kind of disappointing when you read the ingredients or nutrition labels and then realize that whatever food it is, wasn't what you thought.

Are you sensitive to MSG? If not, you should still be able to enjoy the patties.

Glad to hear that the Misfits is working for you! I can totally understand the convenience!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2019:
yeah, i don't want to throw the patties out. and yes i wish i knew that it was in them, i wouldn't have bought them! now i know to check even the meat/pork/poultry selections for msg...

misfits really has served me well.

grannyannie on 09/15/2019:
It's awful that it's so hard to get 'natural' foods. MSG, salt, HFCS added to so many foods.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2019:
yes, it was a pork patty and i had NO IDEA it'd be sprinkled with that stuff. grrrr!

BearCountryGG on 09/15/2019:
MSG is a flavor enhancer...that's probably why they taste so good....but it can cause headaches......which is why so many get headaches after eating chinese food. It does cause me problems sometimes.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2019:
yes, i am quite sure it's why they taste good ;) grrrrr!

Maria7 on 09/15/2019:
Good idea on supplementing with frozen veggies...each supermarket trip for fresh can also cause more buying of other items that was not planned.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2019:
it's good to have a convenient option and yes, good point that i prob would buy more at the supermarket if i had to go out there...!

(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 116.2

Kombucha 70, later 2 plums. woke up late, trying to be patient bc going to food events and i want to sample a few things = save calories for those events ;)  i want a coffee at the first event, in flushing, a food festival....or,if not coffee, just to sample what's there ;)

12:30pm nasty fish/chive dumpling and some coffee 400 everything was gross

food at 2nd festival around 2pm - gumbo soup 200 so good! Fried shrimp 150, fries 300. 650 and water

5pm Snack 300 fruit, whipped cream iced coffee

7pm chips and guacamole 200, English muffin, egg, butter 300

ricky and I are driving to a couple festivals today. one is with the union and the event is in the bronx about 30-40min away with good food / beer. The other is an Asian event closer to us, 15-20 min with crappy parking but we are interested to see the food. lol, he told me that he intends to indulge today. lol, as always, i try to be moderate ;).  ricky has a very fast metabolism, never fat and small boned. very thin guy.

I aid in bed for like 45 min this morning (from like 8am when i got up without an alarm until -8:45am)- not worth it. Afterwards, finally took a 10min walk and did abs. My routine now inludes a need to wake up one of the weekend days to do abs / light cardio. Felt good...i most def need to keep getting up for the walk, i noticed i am in a big habit on the weekend of wanting to get up and eat right away....a mental thing.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/14/2019:
It's really nice to read your weekend plans. I'm such a homebody - which sometimes is OK, but sometimes a bit boring or sad. I hope you will post recaps on the foods you tried!

I do not like to linger in bed, but I do, trying to grab more sleep. It's so much better to get up and get started, and then go to bed earlier. I must remember this.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/14/2019:
yes, lingering in bed is not good for me on weekend especially, if i am waking up naturally i might as well get up when i wake up. right.

it's nice to have plans, but a little tiring of course...

BearCountryGG on 09/14/2019:
Not 1 festival but 2...sounds like a fun day!!

horn_of_plenty on 09/14/2019:
First festival was crowded and not my style bc the food was poor quality in my opinion but ricky liked it - not my type though. but second festival food was amazing and had a pretty good time watching a keg toss ;) competition:-)

horn_of_plenty on 09/14/2019:
Ricky likes dumplings but I don’t as much :)

Maria7 on 09/14/2019:
Festivals sound like fun!

horn_of_plenty on 09/14/2019:
The second one we much better than the first ;) great gumbo soup and fried shrimp :-)

grannyannie on 09/13/2019:
Today your birthday? Happy birthday!

I bought myself some smoked salmon today as well. I'll have scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for lunch Sunday.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
it was Monday, but we planned to go out today for lunch :)

Donkey on 09/13/2019:
Have a great work celebration today!

I am familiar with the Sunny brand. I looked into their rowers, actually, for myself. Good choice! I hope the bike helps you!

I think you'll really appreciate it in the winter!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
i would have even used it last night - it was drizzly so i skipped the bike ride. not raining, but, drizzly. i took it as an opportunity to get extra sleep, LOL. i'm glad to hear you say the brand is favorable.

BearCountryGG on 09/13/2019:
Never had lox...is it cooked or raw?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
it is smoked lightly, practically raw...see the link here as to what it looks like (not what i am getting, i just wanted to show you a picture):

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
it's a bit pricey, salty, but low calorie and very tasty. i've been eating it my whole life and love it.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
looked this up for us:

Cold Smoke Process

Brining Before the actual smoking of the salmon sides are done a brining process is required. The proteins in the fish are modified (denatured) by the salt, which enables the flesh of the salmon to hold moisture better than it would if not brined. In the United States, the FDA regulates the addition of salt as it is a major processing aid to ensure the safety of the product.

There are two main curing methods that are typically used to cure salmon prior to smoking:

1. Wet brining: Brining in a solution containing water, salt, sugar and many times other selected spices for up to 24 Hrs.

2. Dry curing: This method is a method often used in Europe, in which salmon fillets are covered with a mix of salt, sugar, and sometimes other spices (traditional London Cure smoked salmon uses salt only). Dry curing tends to be faster than wet brining, as the salt tends to draw out moisture from the fish during the curing process and less drying time is needed in the smokehouse. Smoking Once the Salmon Sides are wet or dry-brined they are smoked at no higher than 80°F for between 10 and 15 hours, depending on the smoker, and the size and type of salmon and this is where the art of smoking comes in. Cold-smoking is a style where the burning wood and smoke are somewhere else and get blown over the salmon from afar over a long period of time. Cold smoking does not cook the fish, resulting in a delicate texture. Although some smoke houses go for a deliberately 'oaky' style with prolonged exposure to smoke from oak chips, industrial production favors less exposure to smoke and a blander style which gives a softer silkier taste and feel.

Originally, prepared fish was upside hung in lines on racks, or tenters, within the kiln. Workers would climb up and straddle the racks while hanging the individual lines in ascending order. Small circular wood chip fires would be lit at floor level and allowed to smoke slowly throughout the night. The wood fire was damped with sawdust to create smoke; this was constantly tended as naked flames would cook the fish rather than smoke it. The required duration of smoking has always been gauged by a skilled or 'master smoker' who manually checks for optimum smoking conditions.

BearCountryGG on 09/13/2019:
Interesting...I never see it here but have heard of lox and bagels....I see what you mean about lind of raw...but kind of cooked....

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
yes, i grew up with lox on bagels ;)

Maria7 on 09/13/2019:
Enjoy your birthday lunch!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/13/2019:
It went well, coworkers liked the place :)

happy-1 on 09/13/2019:

Horn_of_plenty on 09/13/2019:
ohhh, me too!!!! :)

i didn't see any lox at this particular (crappy) supermarket...so, it's still on my mind ;)

I am still waiting on the stationary bike because it's a gift from my dad and he was away a few days. he chose the bike, it was $149 on Amazon. And he asked if i might like that one, to which i agreed it looks good. It's the recumbent type of bike, if you google that you'll see what i mean. I am not sure if he ordered it yet, because he was away on vaca/work with my mom for a few days.

So in the meantime, i'm walking in the mornings. I am more eager actually to bike because it's dark already in the AM and i prefer to watch TV and be home exercising early in the morning, especially as the weather shifts to Winter. I may do walking some days / switching with bike in AM. It's been good to get moving when my body is not used to it.  My body is quite tight in the AM, i have enjoyed pushing it.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/12/2019:
I totally get where you're coming from on the winter darkness. Having my bike is really the only way I've been able to maintain consistent exercise. The treadmill (my mom's old one) is too loud.

May I ask which brand of bike you are getting? Both of mine are Schwinns, an excellent brand by reputation, but I have no particular allegiance. I'm just curious. :-)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
It's the Sunny brand...same as the stepper i got which has met my expectations :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
i'll send you a link when i have it.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
it's recumbent like yours.

grannyannie on 09/12/2019:
I like the recumbent bike as you can do it for a long time and even read or be on your phone, but still get a good workout.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
i thought it might be better than the other option too. and it could be nice to be on the phone and on the bike, yes...i DO plan to use it in this way to catch up with my friend C and be on the bike on the weekends especially.

Maria7 on 09/12/2019:
How SWEET of your Daddy to order that for you!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
yeah, i have a very sweet dad! :)

BearCountryGG on 09/12/2019:
You will enjoy the bike I'm sure....I love mine. This is the third one we have had over the years.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
what brand is yours?

grannyannie on 09/13/2019:
I have a stationary upright bike and don't like to do it for long. I find my back starts to hurt - fine with my real bike outside but not on one of these. So I love the recumbent bike. At my gym you can choose a bike ride to watch all of which are in France.

horn_of_plenty on 09/13/2019:
Good to know my choice was a good one ....rather my dad’s choice !
