Weight: 116.2

edit: it was a simple  day, i was able to sleep in. after lunch, i was sleepy after reading and totally fell asleep for another half hour in the afternoon. all good. it was a nice day off and not rushed.

slept till about 7:30am which was a good amount of sleep especially after my workout last night :)

8:30am Breakfast: oatmeal with almond milk and some stevia/cinnamon/pinch of saffron 170, siggis yogurt 140, kombucha 60. 370...

10:30am snack: peanut butter 150

11:30am lunch: i have leftovers - my own wrap 150, sausage200 /peppers/onions/leeks 150 small amount from buffet yesterday that i bought specifically to eatat home today. 500 and chips 150

snacks: raspberries 100, water

5pm dinner: tastes of my sauteed greens 100, sauteed string beans 100, an egg/avo wrap i had already prepared in fridge 300. 500 total. healthy.

exercise: i make take it mostly as a rest day, aside from biking later, but may also decide to walk a little bit. not sure. i have a lot of errands to do and possible dr appt...so we'll see.

after exercise later this evening: plum 50

not sure, but quite possibly a protein muffin in microwave since i bought two at the supermarket today.we'll see....they also have quite a bit of sugar in them - not a great brand but i like how easy they are to make just at 1/4 cup water and mix. 270cal

2120 :)

I was supposed to go to Splish Splash water park  today but the weather is forecasted for possible rain.  so, we changed the day to Saturday. but, i am still taking a sick day as planned bc i had it in my head all week i was taking one and really don't want to go in after knowing i was going to sleep in tomorrow and planning on exercising till late tonight, which i did.

so at home today, i of course have things i can do. i'm glad i got the workout out the of the way though last night and it feels so good to have slept in today.

i want to cook, put $ on my laundry card, possible dr appt since now i have to cancel it for Saturday bc of change of plans, possibly cooking muffins...completely realizing i could go to work...but taking a slow day.

i could also pick up groceries at the supermarket, as well as detergent/fabric softener as well as yogurts and seltzer.

later i'll bike with ricky. sounds like enough to me, plus reading.

cooking greens and an asian string bean recipe.

i want to make a cupcake recipe soon - i think on Sunday - i'll be skipping my weights workout this Sunday to free up some time...

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/23/2019:
Enjoy your day off. I hope the weather cooperates, but who cares? because you have the DAY OFF!! (insert Donkey Dance here)

Horn_of_plenty on 08/23/2019:
it was a cooler weather, calm day. a nice day off. somewhat productive but mostly just relaxed and restful.

grannyannie on 08/23/2019:
Hope the weather improves and you can go to the water park. I make my porridge pretty much the same as you - almond milk, cinnamon, stevia. Haven't tried saffron.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/23/2019:
the saffron is somewhat spicy...i take a bit of it like the size of a small teaspoon but not packed, put it in one part of the oatmeal and eat it towards the beginning that part...saffron is said to have anti depressive qualities and that's why i take it and i find oatmeal a good base to stick it in. i don't eat it with the entire bowl of oatmeal, just a spoonful or two.

BearCountryGG on 08/23/2019:
Your breakfast wraps always sound so good...yet I never think of that in the morning...need to leave myself a note I guess.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/23/2019:
and, they can be made ahead of time too. you can take it out of the fridge for an hour in the morning to get it to room temp...maybe it'd help you eat one if you didn't have to make it early? then again, you are sometimes eating full cooked breakfasts in the morning..

i love my wraps bc they are quite healthy and portable.

happy-1 on 08/23/2019:
Sounds like a recipe for happiness.

someone at work was shocked i'd still take the day off and even though i love the lady, she said the thing i dislike said to me which is "you have no kids, you aren't married, you have no responsibilities....i don't get why you have to take days off like this!"....LOL. it is also relaxing me before 2 hours each way of driving Saturday to a water park and busy day on Saturday. for this reason is the biggest reason i'm still taking Friday off. it's a way to lower stress before a longer day. i know it's a good choice and good way to end the summer. In total, i took no days in July and 3 in August, so i'm not guilty of taking days off all summer.  i'm not mad, at all, of the woman who said it because she didn't mean it to upset me, but she just really thinks that way just like many people do. but really to me, more when men say it, i find it rude and not understanding that we all do not have to feel / act the same as other people all the time. It's my choice to not have kids and kids shouldn't be the only excuse why someone needs to go home on time / not work OT...etc. I used to work a ton of hours, and people would feel i could stay later than everyone bc i didn't have kids...it would truly upset me to hear men talk like that around me....anyways, i'm just glad i will stay home tomrrow, after thinking that was the story all week i wasn't about to change things.

6 day 1965, pretty awesome ;)

Tonight is strength workout....i will refrain from writing more until what i have to say is finalized.

also, i have decided to stick with my typical hours as i do like waking up at a normal hour and do not need any stressors that aren't necessary. i am better right now and feel better right now with the hours i have. so keeping my schedule and not going earlier anytime soon.  maybe i'll change hours at another point, but not now.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 08/22/2019:
I've never been much of a morning person either, so I understand your choice. Have a good workout tonight.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2019:
it would have been nice if i enjoyed waking up early in the morning...but i tend to love to sleep in - and i figure since i like to exercise that most of the healing occurs during sleep - some science proving that the sleep we get at the later part of the morning hours being very beneficial.

Donkey on 08/22/2019:
Oops, I posted another comment on yesterday's entry, about working hours. It applies to your entry today, as well: what works for you.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2019:
yeah, in the end i think i wouldn't be very happy with the early rise. it's kinda nice to get ready at my pace in the morning, time for stretching or to massage my feet before work...i do not want to rush my mornings.

like you said, i can always do more in the morning before work - i can even do a little walk, etc.

legcramps on 08/22/2019:
Exactly; whatever works for you! I have never been a morning person either, and there have been many, MANY people who have judged me because of it. Successful people aren't always the ones who are up at the crack of dawn getting things done! Sometimes, they are the ones who work well mid-morning, or mid-afternoon, or at night. Geez! LOL see, it gets me worked up!!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2019:
yeah, i have tried the earlier mornings and looking back on how i felt, i felt very rotten. so, i guess i'll keep my hours as the difference isn't substantially going to help me timewise to do the earlier work hours.

happy-1 on 08/22/2019:
Do you make your own breakfast wrap?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2019:
Yes. I hard boil eggs several at the beginning of the week or whenever i need to. Then, each night or morning (and sometimes i'll make more than one wrap and leave it in the fridge for the next day), i'll take a whole wheat wrap (around 120-130 cal), and i'll spread 1/4 avocado (used to be half an avo but i've learned to use just 1/4), i mash it with a fork on the wrap, then i use everything bagel seasoning and mix a lot of it into the avocado, then i take a hard boiled egg, slice it in half and place the halves face down on the avocado and roll up the wrap. it tastes very satisfying and filling with a cup of coffee that i get from the work keurig, free. it's a simple breakfast that i love but i sometimes get sick of it because i rely on eating it every day at work...i guess i can further change up the seasonings i use...but soon i'll take a break from this breakfast, even though it's super healthy.

i do not like a breakfast that has too much liquid/fiber (like oatmeal) at work, bc i'll have bathroom issues. i prefer something not too big to eat with coffee that has both protein and fat and some carbs :)

excellent question.

i wouldn't be buying wraps as they'd be huge, and easily double the calories if i bought the sandwiches made in the city.

So jealous of your day off -- and yet, I have time off to take as well. If I didn't work in a den of wolves, it would be easier to discern whether or not to allow myself to take time off. Sounds like you have a lot planned.

I fail to understand why having kids is a requirement to taking time off.... just shakin' my head. I'm sure that your co-worker's comment had more to do with HER situation rather than YOU taking time off. I'm pretty sure of this.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/23/2019:
good point and yes it has to do with her situation ;) i could only laugh when she said it.

kombucha 60

snack: almonds 100

lunch: need to pick up a protein at buffet, but i have veggies cooked from home :) around 600 - veggies, seafood, chips.

late dinner: blueberries 180, plum 50, yogurt 170. 400. forgot the craisins 100

1700 total

5day: 1970

exercise: maybe walking of 1 mile, but nothing overdone today is a rest day / early to bed.  just commute walking, walking at lunch as usual and a mile after work.

tonight i will prob stop at 2 places on the way home - fruit stand for plums and any other fruit that looks good as well as buying some amino protein powder of a new flavor since mine are almost used up.

I am contemplating changing my working hours from a start at 8:30am to a start at 7:30am! The reason is because with school starting, my commute is going to start getting longer with more traffic on the road. I KNOW i can shorten my commute if i start an hour earlier though i KNOW it will be hard for getting up so much earlier (though i realize i can get used to this again).

I also figure that when Winter comes, it will be nice to leave work at 4pm and not 5pm and i can get started a bit earlier on my workout when i get home, too, as well as (hopefully) going to bed earlier.

For some reason, i feel traffic will be better at laest in the morning and i'll just have to get used to leaving earlier. It means i'll be leaving home somtime between 6:30-6:40 or possibly even 6:45am to get to work by 7:30am. we'll see how that works. Currently, i have to leave a bit over an hour to get to work, but if i start earlier, it will prob just take 45min to get to work....might be worth it. i already discussed it iwth my boss who is fine with it. so i'll start this in September.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 08/21/2019:
Changing your hours sounds like a good plan - and leaving earlier in the day is always nice.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/21/2019:
i have a hard time waking up, but it seems the better option right now. the bus and train will also be a little less crowded and easier for me to find a good spot to sit/stand and read my book. lately, it's so crowded i cannot read at the train all days of the week...so it seems the better option to get things done.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
thinking i may not change my hours after all....

Donkey on 08/21/2019:
I think that's a wonderful idea to change your work hours, for all the reasons you mentioned. I don't know if I'd go back to regular hours in the summer, even.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
yes, i think of i have to bite the bullet and just get up early. i can still sleep the same hours, but it might shave time off my commute and help me to change up my focus / refocus. things are getting sort of dull and it seems i need to shake it up to progress.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
thinking i may not change my hours after all....

innerpeace on 08/21/2019:
No joke! today was the first day back to school for the girl and most other schools in the area and it took me an extra 15 minutes to get to work. Maybe because it was the first day, I sure hope its not this crowded everyday. I don't remember it being so bad before...I guess I just got used to it. Have a great day!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
yes, that's what i'm afraid of!!!!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
thinking i may not change my hours after all....

BearCountryGG on 08/21/2019:
Got to get all of the fresh produce in now...because it will be down to just apples, pears and squash in the fall soon.......enjoy well you can!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
loving the fresh produce! always been a lover of plums.

legcramps on 08/21/2019:
Having to work at an earlier time sounds nice, but it can get hard. I've toyed with the idea myself, just so I can get off earlier and do more things. But i'm not sure I would accomplish anything more, since I would be even more tired at night than I already am - I would go to bed much earlier, and struggle to find energy to workout. It's a dangerous balance for sure! Often you won't know if something works until you try it out for a bit! Will boss let you give it a go for a couple of weeks?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2019:
i have tried it last year...and i did feel not so hot so early in the morning. i think i will just keep it as i am - and realize i do not need the challenge of getting up early right now. i can always try it and see how it goes....i'm sorta under the radar at work and it will not bother my boss to try it, etc.

perhaps it's better i get my sleep and wake up in normal hours and not on the early schedule...i'll give it more thought during the next couple weeks before school starts here which is the beginning of september.

Donkey on 08/22/2019:
It's OK to change your mind about working earlier. I'm sure it would be beneficial, traffic-wise, for all the reasons you stated, but if it doesn't work for you personally, then it's definitely not a good idea.

Could you try to start your own day at home earlier? Just to see how that works for you, but leave the apartment at your regular time? That way, you could see how it would feel to get started earlier.

Just an idea, but I think it's fine to stay with a schedule that works for you.

We had avocado, but I had to throw two out that went bad before we can eat them. DH is in the habit of shopping at Sams and he buys a bag of 8 and these last two we couldn't eat fast enough. I prefer just getting one or two at a time...for reasons I hate buying in bulk.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/20/2019:
yes i agree that avos are a pain in the neck as when they ripen there isn't many days that good by before they spoil and it's hard to eat them constantly..it sometimes takes me a few days to finish one as i put only pieces of it in my wraps, etc.

yes, i'm not a fan of bulk grocery shopping either as the food does generally spoil. only thing i usually have some luck with is fruit...but this time around i even lost the battle with 2 whole pounds of strawberries :( so sad.

i do prefer paper towels and toilet paper in bulk though! haha!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/20/2019:
and the avocados are so pricey these days...when they are the 50 cents deal, i don't feel bad if one spoils...

grannyannie on 08/20/2019:
Yea, you really need to buy just a couple of avocadoes at a time. My dh sometimes buy a bag of them and ripen at the same time.

HOP, good plans as always.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/20/2019:
I'm with you regarding the avos. i prefer to buy the smaller size since it's only me eating them...and i tend to buy a few and then refridgerate them when they are ripe and hope for the best ;)

thank you!

BearCountryGG on 08/20/2019:
I have thrown out more avocados than I have ever eaten.......I really don't think I know how to guage when they are ready.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/20/2019:
i'm not sure if you are asking for advice, but, it is a learned process for sure knowing when they are good...

lately the ones i buy are poor quality so some of them have dark spots and aren't perfect on the inside, but good enough for the price.

happy-1 on 08/20/2019:
i made guac and the garlic turned overnight :( so sad

Back to work, happy...most things going as planned, some changes.

i didn't cook the bok choy over the weekend from misfits so i had to throw most of it away (the leaves were very dried out and not looking good at all) but i saved some of the stalk to cook tonight along with green peppers. i may just cook those veggies in broth and olive oil with some seasoings tonight. light and tasty to eat tomorrow / Wednesday.

i'm going to bike tonight a little bit for like 20-30 min. then cook. bed soon after is my plan..

Have a good day!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/19/2019:
it will be, Annie!

BearCountryGG on 08/19/2019:
Nice that you were able to salvage at least part of the bok choy......I don't believe I have ever had that.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/19/2019:
it's very popular in supermarkets here. i believe it's Asian and we have lots of Asian people here in Queens too...it's great and low cal. it's perfect to cook up instead of cabbage. very tasty. i'm sorry you haven't had the opportunity! being in a big city here, i have that advantage of being able to try a lot of different foods. i'm sorry you haven't had the chance, yet..

Donkey on 08/19/2019:
Your plans for the bok choy sound so yummy!!! I hope it turns out!

And what a nice thing - the bike ride - end the day :-)

Horn_of_plenty on 08/20/2019:
bike ride ended up being a little longer and was great...bok choy got cooked with green peppers and an eggplant :) good eats now!

happy-1 on 08/19/2019:
Bok choy is yummy. I’ll have to go do an asian market run next month.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/20/2019:
it is very good and healthy...seems it's the month for it to be harvested here!

8:30am-9am Oatmeal with almond milk 170, sweetened with stevia as usual, dash of saffron on a bit of it for health, and i tried a coconut yogurt that was dairy free to which i also added steiva. it was good that way but i will stick to my regular yogurts in the future bc it was low on protein but only high in fat not sugar. a nice yogurt for people who can't have dairy. 150. 320. and iced coffee 30.

2day: 2125 per day

last night i took a sleeping pill because after the rather active afternoon, i wasn't inclined to do anything at home productively and i was constantly reaching for food. so i decided around 7pm to take something and i guess i went to bed shortly afterwards. i slept around 12 hours, till around 8am.

today is a day mostly that i will spend at home. i'm temped to start laundry, but first will start my strength exercises.

i have a lot of food leftovers from last week...i should freeze some of the mashed carrot/potato that i made instead of throwing it out...

cleaned my shower and the hamster cage. i didn't cook....ran out of time and i want to go to bed now...all in all i got a lot done today.

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/18/2019:
You will thank yourself later if you freeze the mashed vegetables today. What a nice thing to reach for when time is tight or ambition is low. (I'm thinking on a cold winter night.)

That's very interesting about the coconut yogurt. If I ever decide to go dairy-free -- or reduce dairy intake -- I might give it a try. May I ask what brand?

Horn_of_plenty on 08/18/2019:
the yogurt is a cashew based yogurt with coconut flavor...Forager is the brand. i did like the consistency. it was like a thin pudding a little. not greek or thick though.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/18/2019:
yes, i didn't stick them in the freezer yet, but will do it before i go to bed so they aren't wasted!

grannyannie on 08/18/2019:
We sometimes have leftovers when we have visitors and I've discovered there is a lot I can freeze.

Coconut yogurt is the only kind my husband likes - he had it in Australia and I can't find it here.

I use soy yogurt and mix with fresh fruit. Also use Stevia.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/18/2019:
yes, i must freeze the food i didn't eat this week tonight..

i love the liquid stevia bc it's so versatile. i use it daily.

Maria7 on 08/18/2019:
Good to have premade meals frozen...that way if you don't feel like cooking, just take it out, microwave it and enjoy!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/18/2019:
yes, i must freeze it soon before bed. good to have these options, and it costs me relatively nothing!

BearCountryGG on 08/18/2019:
Frozen veggies turn into awesome soups too!

I had a dr appt today to which the dr didn't show up at 8:30am. so i guess he was trying to refill my rx without me seeing him and that might be why cvs was calling me (constantly) to tell me i had a rx ready. in the past, they have filled it even when my insurance wasn't covering it - to make more money i presume. insurance limits what's covered over a specific period of time, but cvs will gladly fill rx without insurance for more money...so i thought it was this type of "scamming" by cvs but now it SEEMS my dr placed an order as well...as he wasn't there today and i guess he was making sure i was covered. then again, i'll have to go to cvs to see what's up. either way, dr never told me he wanted to cancel. i'd have slept in a bit more as the only reason i woke up early today was for the appt, that i admit being 10min late for!

even though i didn't go to dr, i went to bank nearby to get some cash, bought some tomatoes/plums at the fruit/veggie stand for a discount price, got a haircut at my fave barbershop with my favorite barber!...and soaking my feet in epsom salt bath now....all before 10:30am!..

soon off for biking with Ricky...we are going back to central park area for biking as well as possibly stopping by a fair called "city streets" where they close roads for bikers and walkers in the blocks directly below central park. should be nice. we'll be having Meatballs for dinner ...and it should be AWESOME.

I also posted to your yesterday post about job changes.......unfortunately law enforcement is not being respected like theyn used to be,....it's a tough time to be in their shoes.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/15/2019:
yes, all careers and ways of life have a pattern of changing and not being how they used to. i totally agree.

I'll have to continue seeing how i feel and not forgetting about my fitness training. i have a year left of it for this process. we'll see where i am at....!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/15/2019:
i did read those comments, thank you. yes, i have seen court officers in action - they do sometimes seem to not be moving that much and standing for long periods.

Maria7 on 08/16/2019:
Hoping you are enjoying your Friday off. Have a good day.

horn_of_plenty - Wednesday Aug 14, 2019
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 116.2

On the way home, i bought fruit at the fruit/veggie stand near the train and here's how much i saved:

2 combined dry pints of raspberries: $3 ---- supermarket would be like $8

3lbs of strawberries for $3 total ---- in store would be at least $5 or much more if no sale since lately there's a sale of 3 for $5...but sometimes they are like $5 each!

1 dry pint of blueberries $1.50 ---- in store at least $2.50-$4.00

5 avocados for $2.50 (50 cents each!) ---- in store they are currently $2.99ea so 5 of them would have been $15!!!

so, i saved at least we can easily say around $25!!!!!

i should have bought the cherry tomatoes for $1.50 - in the store they were $2.99 - i went to the store to buy cucumbers for the beach so i can cut them up as i actually didn't have enough veggies to cut up for the beach, LOL. I didn't buy the tomatoes since i know i can get them at the stand for a better value next week or tomorrow.

kombucha 50

breakfast: wrap and egg, spices, avo, coffee 350.

snack: not sure, prob salt and pepper peanuts 130

(out of almonds at the moment) chocolate 120

lunch: very similar to yesterday, with a bit of tofu as i only have 2 fried shrimp left 200 as well as tons of veggies 250 - will add some dressing and goldfish crackers 200

snack: plum, maybe more peanuts  candy 30

dinner: small plum and a ton of raspberries 200; extra moist dbl chocolate warm protein muffin 250 with whole milk greek yogurt 150. i added extra chocolate chips in and they melted perfectly. kombucha. yup, a sweet tooth decided on my dinner ;)

and a wrap

5day avg: 2000 per day, very good.

exercise: not much planned, rest day...bed early on purpose - busy week/weekend ahead until Sunday which will be very, very relaxed LOL. Friday and Saturday  I have major plans (fun) but plans, so Sunday i'll spend quietly at home.

I do need to pick up fruit on the way home. preferably a lot of it...plums, strawberries, apricots...we'll see what the selection is.

(thru Tuesday - 1985 4-day avg)

thoughts regarding being a peace officer (court officer) - not sure i can reach the goals. i probably have around a YEAR still i can be preparing until any sort of physical test presuming i can pass the written portion and get a high enough score that i am contacted. supposedly info for the test is coming out in December. it has been very difficult for me to change my level of fitness, though i am not in a mood to quit now. i just see that i have been at this point several times before and i see it might be a dream and that's it. the test is far easier than being a cop for the new york city PD. i don't necessarily want to waste my time training for something i cannot pass anyway, but, perhaps i have to continue to train smart? really, i SHOULD be able to  do this - it's 4 tests only - situps (i'm near the top score, but not there yet) , pushups (i have reached top score already), and two running tests. i will begin AGAIN training for these two running cardio elements after the summer simply because i cannot balance it with my daily schedule and weekend plans right now. i WILL injure myself if i have to both train now doing extra hardcore cardio and keep the plans i have with friends. the plans involve cardio and i cannot simply mix walking at a water park barefoot with additional training, it's just too much and will cause injury.

so, i still have time. i'm really trying to have a life balance here. this is why i am not doing cardio training. it's not that i'm not doing any cardio - i'm fitting it in as i can, but i cannot double up - like double the training. like, if i'm biking on the weekend with a friend, i cannot just also practice running. it's just too much and i already know what will happen.

my legs and ankles are a LOT better compared to last month at this time when i skipped a 5k. because i have rested.

so, i'm going to have to listen to my body. who wants to be in a lot of pain and not do anything?

i am able to continuously do more, it's just a pattern of needing breaks more often and time off more often when training than i like to when it comes to cardio / legs.

simply, the reason court officer still looks favorable is mostly a new job atmosphere and good salary. honestly, if i knew how the industry i am in would play out, i'd probably just stay here...but i really don't know.  i guess i can guess - i'll live like i do now for life. not necessarily bad, not great. one thing is i will not have put basically any of my higher education to benefit me. but even as a court officer, it doesn't require a master's degree.

there are a lot of unknowns. i really don't want to think about being in this industry for life though it is a bit tearing at me lately that this will be the case if my fitness doesn't improve. i will know this very, very soon. Come next summer, things will actually be pretty darn apparent, i'd say...

Progress as of today: -2.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 08/14/2019:
Good luck with career plans. And, yes, listen to your body! I ignored the shoulder pain I had and really injured it more.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/14/2019:
yeah, i must admit that listening to my body has been one thing i have learned and that i do a little better now - but i could do it even more and it wouldn't hurt!

legcramps on 08/14/2019:
Life balance is important! Do what's right for you. And, if court officer is no longer your dream, it's ok for that to be your reality. Dreams change!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/14/2019:
the dream i still would like, but if my body cannot do it in the end,i will have to accept it. i will try hard. i looked at the website, the written test will be given this Spring. so i guess it will be around one year before the physical test. like you said, it's ok if my reality has to change.

Maria7 on 08/14/2019:
Like Legcramps above stated...dreams do change...

Horn_of_plenty on 08/14/2019:
yeah she's right. i hope i can still make this one work, but, if my body isn't up to it then it's just not up to it. i'll decide after one more year. i'd like to turn things around very much this year. things have been improving for me for awhile now. :)

Donkey on 08/15/2019:
It's ok to change goals. If you decide to let go of the court officer goal, that's ok. However, if you're undecided, I would suggest to continue to prepare for it. You can always decline to participate in the testing when the time comes, if you are prepared. However, if you are not prepared, then that choice is no longer available.

But it is ok to give yourself permission to let go of this goal, and adjust your training for a different goal/dream.

One thing I noticed is that you wrote that one of the appealing aspects of court officer is a new job scene. Believe me, that will fade really fast. All new jobs are bright and shiny until reality and routine set in. This statement is not to discourage you in any way. Just keeping it real. I hope that's ok.

I mean, if you want a new job scene, couldn't you ask for a transfer or new assignment with your current employer?

IDK, I understand your desire for something new and challenging. I truly do.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/15/2019:
i value what you wrote that all jobs do get old and i'd have to totally agree with you that this one would feel that way, too, once working it a few years. you are totally 100% accurate here.

the pay would be better overall and i feel greater job security as court officer too....assuming i could handle it...

Donkey on 08/15/2019:
Way to go on the fresh produce!!! That was a score, wasn't it?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/15/2019:
unbelievable really! makes me realize just how great it is for my budget to stop by the fruit stand on the way home!!! amazing!

BearCountryGG on 08/15/2019:
Life changes, things change...what we thought we wanted sometimes doesn't look as a appealing later....it's okay to change your mind.....When I had jury duty....I noticed the officer that had to stand next to the jury box for the entire time. Basically he did only a few things.....he repeatedly opened and closed the jury box door as people came in and left....he told the DEFENDANT...that she could NOT bring her breakfast into the courtroom...and sent her out. And someone asked to go to the bathroom twice and he okayed that. Other than that...he just had to stand there all day. I'm sure you have considered the possibility...that a defendant could try to escape the courtroom...and it would be your job to stop him or her....I know that at no time in my adulthood would I have been able to fight a grown male criminal......of course you would have a gun...but you would also have a room full of other people..and you would have to prevent the defendant from getting your gun away from you..that would definately be a change of scenery.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/18/2019:
thank you for your insightful comments...i def have considered it...when i went for jury duty, the court officers did seem bored.
