Dinner pt. 2: 1 side of plantanes to start and then the house specialty salad w/tomatoes, onions, peppers, lettuce, green beans, peas, crutons, and grilled shrimp w/ balsamic vinegrette and water. I avoided the bread served at the table and didn't eat any of my friend's pizza. . . the date was great, this girl is really cool, I hope to hang with her again soon. . . . She's really smart, studying microbiology and neuroscience at USC, and an avid swimmer as well! :-)

Two years ago I could never have imagined being able to go out with someone, and now i feel like I can date and not feel so self-conscious. . . I can't wait to see how it feels when I get to my goal in a couple of months!

190 or bust 180 feelin' great-ee 175 and bingo

All of the above will be fine with me :-)

Today was a day of productivity, all of course, with the end result of my date, which Im about to head out for. . .

I woke up, did laundry, got my hair cut, washed my car, and came home to clean my kitchen, bathroom, room and living room - all of which were a mess. Then I ironed, and cleaned out my closet and watched a little football with the roomates. While I didn't run or walk today, I definetly was active, especially the car washing, it was all good.

Diet was strong again today. Tonight, we're going out for brazilian food, ill probably stick to a simple salad and fish in my effort to avoid carbs and fatty cuts of meat or pizzas.

Breakfast: oatmeal and water. Lunch: 2 corn tamales w/mole and chicken. Snack: turkey jerkey and cashews. Dinner pt. 1: Tuna w/lettuce, nuts, 1 tsp of mayo, and tomatoes and 2 long pieces of baby broccoli, again more water. Dinner pt 2. ? but definetly something with veggies, since I've been a little light on those today.

Weigh in: 5 more days - goal is hopefully to be at < 220

Today, a great day. In general, I avoided making poor choices at a restaurant, and at my gig tonight. I had the opportunity to eat pizza after a friend offered me some of his, or to eat bread served prior to my meal, and I easily declined. I did eat the honey bran muffin that came with my salad at this restaurant called mimi's, and I decided to not ask for no bacon in my cobb salad. But all in all, not bad.

Excersize: walked all morning at the convention, 25 minutes running in the evening, and then another 15 minute walk around a park near the place where my gig was.

Diet: Breakfast: Oatmeal and water. Lunch: Honey bran muffin (a pretty big one. . . ) Cobb salad w/strawberry, walnuts, bacon, bleu cheese, spinich, lettuce, tomatoes, broiled chicken, balsamic vinegarete dressing, and water to drink. Dinner: Green salad w/spinich, lettuce, tomatoes, bleu cheese, 1/2 broiled chicken cooked in EVOO, lemon, and garlic w/spices and a side of about 2 cups steamed broccoli; water to drink. Nighttime snack: 1 granola bar, 2 small pieces of turkey jerky, and 2 tiny slivers of dark chocolate. More water followed.

weigh in: not for 6 more days. . . .

Its 1:39 am right now and I feel really good. Great excersize and a sufficient diet, thats the key!!

Tommorrow I've got a date I'm really excited about! I haven't been out in a few months, I'm really excited to hang out with someone new. I knew this girl a bit when I was at USC, but I was too shy to approach her. Then last week I ran into her by chance when I visited campus, and its amazing how much more confident I am now that Im a bit thinner. So anyway, i suggested we hang on sunday and go for brazilian food! I'm going to make a healthy choice there too, really excited about this hang for sure. . . keep you posted!

You really choose good foods! Losing those unwanted 40lbs. now rather than ignoring them and slowly but surely packing on more and more will only lead to a portly appearance that has been the fate of my ex. He was so slim in his 20's!

Today was better than yesterday, of course, with me being home all day, it helped in making better food choices:

breakfast: blueberry oatmeal and water. Lunch: chicken/brown rice/black bean chili w/ romane lettuce, onions, garlic, peppers, and tomatoes. Dinner: leftover chili from lunch, 2 large baby broccoli heads, corn, and for dessert 2 tangerines. I drank about 7 glasses of water so far today, ill try and have at least two or three more before bed. Snack wise, I avoided the cupboard, and Im taking a granola bar to the gig tonight, that will hold me over.

Excersize: ho hum my way around echo park lake 2 times in the morning. I had no energy to really run. Probably due to the food choices of the day prior. . .

Tommorrow, i'm going to the NAMM convention in Anaheim, so ill be walking around all day, that will be great excersize. Then straight to a gig. Im going to have to try and make good food choices while down there, because I can't bring food into the convention from outside. . . . . No worries though, Im really going to focus hard on what I did this week.

Breakfast - oatmeal and water. Lunch - chicken/rice/black bean chili w/cherry tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, parmesean cheese and water. Snack - popcorn and turkey jerky. Dinner - grapefruit, 3 slices of turkey breeast, tangerines, and some leftover snack food and nuts. More water.

Excersize - Run in the morning about 3 miles.

Then when I got home, i was pretty hungry. I ended my teaching around 8:00 and had an hour drive home. My roomates had ordered all these barbeque ribs and chicken and fries from the barbeque place down the street, and it looked soooooooo good. So I helped myself to 2 pieces of chicken and about 10 fries. . . a small, but rewarding splurge. This morning i felt pretty guilty, afterall, I've had such great momentum this month, but I really haven't had a cheat meal like this so I guess its okay every now and then. Today Im on a roll again with working out and my meals, ill update at the end of the day to tell you how I did. .. . . .

Im trying to figure out how to be on that fine line of eating enough, but not too much, because yesterday I felt really hungry by the time I got home, perhaps because I didn't eat enough carbs at dinner or had hardly any fat in my diet yesterday - because I was hungry I had the urge to eat the barbeque even more . . . . . . Today Im going to try and eat frequently, filling up on vegitables, and seeing how i feel at the end of the day - I have another long one ahead of me.

Im not weighing in for 7 more days, but my current weight is probably around 221 or 220 right now. My goal is to see under 220 next week.

I see Biscotti got you set up for what you need to find your calories. The only way to make sure you get enough calories to eat, is to count them. The USDA food pyramid is a great place to get your daily needs figured out.

When I started at 213lbs, one day a week I would have a cheat meal and eat whatever I wanted, including a treat, for that one meal. It wasn't an all day cheat, just one meal. I still lost weight. So it is possible!

I used to take Sundays off, from the "dieting". As long as I had exercised faithfully, and eaten correctly EVERY other day of the week, I allowed myself to relax and eat a small amount of absolutely anything I desired. (Stress the SMALL AMOUNT part). This never seemed to have a detrimental affect on my weight loss. In fact, I think it inspired me to be REEEEALLY good the rest of the week, knowing my reward was anything I desired on Sunday. :)

Yeah I agree on the calorie intake, im definetly a little low . . . but i want to make sure im filling up with the right kinds of calories, such as almonds and protein. . .

Ideally, I want to be 175, so that entails I eat about 1800 calories a/day to maintain that weight. So Im going to shoot for a little over that, and drink more water, and Ill hopefully continue to make progress

Im so tired of carrying around these last 40 pounds!! They've been on me for over a year now, and im glad to see in the past 14 days, i've been able to make some progress . . . . I want to be about 205-210 for my trip to Jakarta in March!

Today was great again, although I wish I could have met more of my water goals. I think I was about 70oz today. . . I should be upwards 100-110. . .

Breakfast: Oatmeal and water; Lunch: 1/2 chicken breast and 1 cup cooked brown rice; snack: popcorn and almonds; dinner: grapefruit, turkey breast slices, granola bar, low fat yogurt, almonds, and water.

I just got home, and im hungry again, I think ill go nibble on some fruit or make up a bowl of corn or other steamed veggies. I've got some really delicious chicken tamales in the freezer, but I don't dare eat them at this hour! all that sat fat, plus its about 500 calories. . . . just not worth it to me.

Excersize: ran this morning for about 30 minutes, and then tonight I ran about 5 miles from Hermosa to El Porto beach. . . in total, I worked off maybe 700-800 cals today and my BMR is probably hummin right now. . . although, I should really have made sure I drank enough water through the day for my night run. My kindeys would mostlikely be thankful. . .

In other news, found out im going to Jakarta in March - im really excited about that. Ill be playing the Java Jazz Festival with Renee Olstead, a young jazz singer from here in town.

Alright, things are finally coming my way :-D

Congrats on all that great cardio! And Jakarta is pretty cool (but Kuala Lumpur is better!). I went to Jakarta a couple years back. It's interesting. I would suggest you go to their padang restaurants to eat 'cause that's what they're famous for, but you won't find anything healthy at all!! South East Asian cuisine is pretty unhealthy... but terribly delicious!

LOL! I'm really big on almonds, too. the best part about them is their fiber...when i really try hard to snack on them continuously throughout the morning, they actually do make me feel full when i also include water. Almonds are great if you eat a low fat diet because they help your body take in those healthy fats that are easy to miss. I had THREE servings of almonds today! LOL. That equals about 500-550 cal!

Alright, things are great. Starting today, im bringing back chicken and tuna into my diet, along with turkey jerky and turkey breast.

Today: Breakfast: Oatmeal and water; Lunch: turkey chili w/black beans, turkey breast, cherry tomatoes, red/green/yellow peppers, onion, garlic, dark chocolate (my secret ingredient), parsley and a dash of seasoning, of course water to drink; Snack: (overendulged) popcorn, cashews, granola bar; Dinner: Asparagus, Grapefruit, Chicken Breast and yup, more water.

Excersize: morning 3 miles, at night, 4.5 miles. Total: 7.5 miles running at a good pace about a 7:45 min mile at my fastest, and doing intervals of walking and running - one of the best things you can do for yourself if you're trying to lose weight - interval between slow and fast.

Today would have been a 10 if it werent for me overendulging in popcorn (granted, its light popcorn, no salt or butter), and i ate way too many cashews and dark chocolates afterword - but at least I recognized this, hopfully tommorrow, they'll be a little more out of reach from my annoying mouth/tounge/appetite/or whatever it was that got me fat in the first place.

And FYI, I've changed my start weight to 305. I discovered a food journal from week 1 of diet back in august of 2005, and i logged my weight in at 305, so thats where i really was a few years ago - photos will come soon.

Holy smoke! I've lost 10 pounds in 10 days! I was 231/232 back on jan 5, and tonight I was 222 on the scale! And while I know I didn't lose all that as fat, its still 10 pounds and Im super stoked on track to gettting to 190!

Today I ate:

breakfast: oatmeal / water snack: 3 tangerines and 15 almonds / water lunch: grilled vegitable salad w/brussel sprouts (my favorite) zuccinni, tomatoes, lettuce, spinich, kale, and some other things too snack: 1 apple and water dinner: grilled chicken salad w/ macademia nuts, tomatoes, green peppers, vinegarette, and more misc vegies / water

Im going to start including chicken and tuna into my diet tommorrow, still no bread though for the remainder of the month - im trying to find alternative means of getting carbs, such as brown rice, quinoa, and oatmeal

My goal is to be under 220 in the next 10 days. Im feeling good, and this is definetly helping me to manage my stress. Thanks everyone for all the reinforcement, you guys are amazing

How do you prepare a "grilled salad"? Never heard of it, but it sounds delicious! I am gluten intolerant, so cannot eat anything made with wheat. I get my carbs from nuts, brown rice, oatmeal (certified gluten-free, made in a dedicated plant) and occasionally a few (5 or 6) baked low-salt corn chips.

good on soon to incorporate brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal. Your meals sound tasty, indeed!!! Nuts are soo good for you plus their protein. Another good fat is avocado. About 1/4 of an avocado is 75-100 calories. Only thing is, it is not high in protein like nuts are. But, that fat is really really healthy like that of nuts! :) good job!

Grilled salad - take some zucchini or other winter vegitable, cut length wise, and lightly put some lemon juice and pepper glaze on the vegi strips. Then put on your george forman, in five minutes you have some really tasty vegies, that frankly, give me the same feeling as eating meat in my salad - they sorta become the entree, hence, grilled salad. I like using various spices on them too, depending on the vegitable, or even a tsp of dijon mustard on tomatoes, and then baked in the oven. now that really seems to taste great, much better than rawness. . .

This week has been good, I've been able to manage all the stresses in my family and with my work, and also focusing on cooking all my meals and basically detoxing myself from not only my diet, but the trauma that happened to me over the holidays.

There was a huge confrontation between a few family members, some of which are currently my dad's conservators, and now they're trying to keep me from seeing my dad. Not really sure why, in general they're just angry people I guess. Anyway, they haven't taken care of my dad, stuffed him in a nursing home, and lied to the state about how he is taken care of, for 10 years.

After the confrontation, of which I had no part in, I was then removed from the rest home where I was staying with him, and told to go find a motel. I had no car, no money, It was about 20-30 degrees outside, and I had to walk daily to see my dad. Id like to say that christmas and new years were nice sitting by myself in a motel 6, but that wouldn't really be the case. At least Denny's was open and they were serving turkey on christmas day. And thanks to alaska airlines, I was stuck out there for a few days because they couldn't get me on a flight to Portland fast enough. I was supposed to stay with my mom out there, but she was so upset after what had happened, she left and went back to Portland in her car. That was the best thing though, it wasn't good for her to be around all the stuff out there. This is between me and them.

Anyway, so basically, I found out Im going to have to become my dad's caregiver and legal guardian now. That way I can at least have the right to visit him. I live 1250 miles away from him and I'm 23 years old. I've never really been a caregiver before, in any facet of the word.So I have a lawyer who is going to help me, and Im going to go forth. Surprisingly enough, I know exactly what im doing. I've had a lot of practice being an adult since i was about 13 or so..

Its a long story, and one too difficult to sum up here - nor is it appropriate to. With that said, you can all imagine, as problem eaters, that going through such trauma has effected my diet.

As soon as I got back to civilization in Portland after new years, for two days I binge ate, then didn't eat for a while, then binged, and basically broke down. That was just after new years. Then upon returning to California, I said enough with it all, "oh yeah Im supposed to be losing weight right now", and began to take control again. I feel good now, and its helped me to clear my mind, at least temporarily. My diet has consisted of:

110 ounces of water daily (or 10 glasses/3 nalgene bottles worth)

Proteins: Lentils, beans, turkey jerky, oatmeal

Carbohydrates: brown rice, low fat granola bar,

Vegitables: Tomatoes, lettuce, spinich, green/red/yellow peppers, garlic, onions, parsley, corn, peas, green beans, asparagus, baby broccoli, carrots

Fruits: Bananas, apples, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, cantelope

sugar/dairy/other: brown sugar, dark chocolate, low fat yogurt, popcorn, parmesan cheese, low fat mayo, dijon mustard

no meats, no breads, and nothing white - flour, sugar, white bread, white rice,

This week, I had 4 cheat meals:

Monday: a tuna sandwhich on rye bread Wednesday: a margarita and a beer with my roomates Friday: 1 cup tortellini Saturday: 2 cups leftover chineese food - had some noodles and chicken in it, but I ate w/brown rice and cooked tomatoes, and I nibbled on some tortilla chips w/guacamole - but literally like two of them.

I haven't weighed myself since last saturday and it was something like 231/232, Im not going to weigh in for another couple of days, I want to weigh myself every 10 days, thats the best thing to do. I think Ill be around 225 or so.

Excersize wise, i've been running and walking daily for a little over an hour. I would go to a gym, I had planned on joining one, but I'm saving my money for legal fees right now. . . .

Boy it would be great to be 175, and rid of some things in my life. Maybe someday, that will happen.

And I won't know unless I try :-) So here I go.

wow, i give you so much credit and your age to deal with the situations you are facing. I personally don't know if i would have the strength to do it...but you definitely do!

good foods. Oatmeal, by the way, is a good carbohydrate! lots of fiber and a little, but good, bit of protein.

I wish you the best. You can't chose your relatives. I learned that when I was very young, as I've got issues on both my mother's and my father's sides. I'm glad to see that you've got the fight in you. You've got remarkable strength, be proud of that!

Wow - you have been through a lot in your short life! I hope things get easier for you. I know from my own experience how hard it is when family members can't agree on the care of someone. Please don't let it rip your family apart. It is too hard on your soul. Let it go for now and take care of you.

You sound like you have a good positive attitude. You will see 175 if you keep the good attitude.

Weight: 230.0

Things are going well, i've been sticking to my detox diet and working on eating as many veggies and drinking as much water as possible. I went on a long run last night, and im going to go out and do that now. Today i've had:

1. oatmeal 2. a bananna 3. a few tangerines 4. 2 cups of cooked popcorn 5. 1 low fat granola bar 6. a couple pieces dark chocolate 7. baby broccoli 8. brown rice 9. lentil w/garlic, onions, and parmesean 10. water

tonight, ill probably cook tomatoes again. . .

tomatoes w/a little bit of low fat mayo (half spoonful), dijon mustard, garlic, parsley, cloves, baked in oven 375, for 10 minutes. Probably have a side of corn or grean beans too.

Hardest thing right now is bread, i miss it a bunch. Im working on no bread the whole month. . . . . none at all . . . . . . hmmm, lets see how that goes.

Im looking forward to having chicken again and some tuna too. . . .thats in another couple of weeks.

While my weight says im 230 today, i doubt that, im probably more like 227. but Im not stepping on the scale for another week right now, i don't need that stressor. I feel great and thats all that matters.

My main goal, never to get hungry. . . . .

Thanks everyone! great to hear from you all! And to follow up, dinner was a bit different than planned, I had grilled carrots, broccoli, and zuccini, with some brown rice, beans, and tofu scramble. Then more water, as usual. After my gig, I had a little more popcorn and granola bar, i need to be careful of these foods that aren't water soluable, cause Ill just want to fill up on them! Alright, see y'all tomorrow
