Let's catch up:

Friday's meals - toast with pb and honey, coffee with oat milk, burrito, cobb salad with poppyseed dressing, freezie, vegan chili with jasmin rice. 1,767 calories.

Friday was a REST day.

Saturday's meals - toast with pb and honey, coffee wtih oat milk, vegan chili with pork sausage LOL (that's kind of an oxymoron), naan bread and chickpea masala, ice cream, pretzels. 1,758 calories.

Saturday's exercise - yardwork, 1 hour, burned 224 calories.

Sunday's meals - toast with pb and two eggs, coffee with almond milk, berry protein smoothie, pita bread and chickpea masala, pretzels, coke zero, burrito, freezie. 1,728 calories.

Sunday's exercise - bike ride, 40km, burned 1,289 calories. Also got a sunburn and heat stroke. Yay.

Sick on Monday...

Monday's meals - toast with pb and honey, coffee with oat milk, pita bread and chickpea masala (this was ONE meal that I split into THREE because it is SO filling!), burritos, freezie. 1,782 calories.

Monday was a SICK day.

I had to force myself to eat over 1,700 calories yesterday. I was pretty sick and really not hungry in the evening at all, but I knew that if I didn't eat, my metabolism would mess me up for the next few days, and I want my calories to be as consistent as possible.

We had a crazy thunderstorm yesterday afternoon and there are trees down all over the city; also fences, shingles, you name it. The wind broke one of my adirondack chairs and a fire pot that was on the deck, and tipped over two of my flower pots. It also moved my VERY HEAVY patio furniture about two feet on the deck. Thankful that was all the damage I had - my neighbours were not so lucky with downed power lines and fences destroyed. I sent a little prayer up as a thank you - it could have been so much worse.

I have a lot of things to do this week to prepare for a very busy weekend. Today's work is organizing what i'll be packing for two upcoming camping trips.

I'm very excited about the first one - I signed up for a three hour course on mountain biking at a nearby provincial park, and BF will be meeting me there afterwards and we will be camping overnight - in a primitive campsite. Just a firepit and maybe a table if we're lucky!

And then a group of us booked a cabin (don't worry, we are all part of our covid-19 group that i've been staying to this whole time) for two nights so we'll definitely not be roughing it for a couple days.

After we get back from all the camping trips on Tuesday night, i'll have the rest of the week off of work to unpack everything and just relax! Yay!

grannyannie on 07/14/2020:
Very busy! Hope you've fully recovered. I went mountain biking once. Exciting! But I now prefer smooth roads.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/14/2020:
that photo reminds me of wall art that you can hang up in your house!

Donkey on 07/14/2020:
Oh I love chickpea masala!!! So good!!! I don't know if I'd have the discipline to not finish all in one sitting...

thinkpositive on 07/15/2020:
Sorry to hear about that storm! Nice bike! Having a Covid safe group is a good idea.

Thursday's meals - toast with honey and pb, coffee with oat milk, burrito, freezie x 2, hamburger with bun, pasta salad, coleslaw, coke zero. 1,743 calories.

After work I decided I would go for a walk to get my 10,000 steps in. I was already over 6,000 steps, so just needed 4,000 more. And I decided I would be okay with that as my exercise for the day. I walked about 10 minutes to the start of the walking trail I usually take my bike on, and had the sudden urge to change my walk into a run. I kept alternating back and forth between walking and running and ended up travelling almost 6 km in total. Burned 444 calories.

Then went to a friend's birthday celebration.

Thanks for the concern on the boil LOL, it's decreased in size already and i'm not as worried about it as I was. Still holding off on getting on the bike for at least another day.

I'm very undecided about what to do tonight for a workout. If the weather stays hot today, and i'm not too tired from working all day, I might drive to the lake and go swimming. I would really like that.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/10/2020:
swimming in the lake sounds like a perfect exercise for tonight!

today is rain all day...so i'm happily inside studying and on my stationary bike! can you believe i forgot to do my weights routine yesterday!? was thinking only about work on my course!

grannyannie on 07/11/2020:
Ohhh swimming in a lake sounds lovely!

Donkey on 07/11/2020:
I wish I were more of a swimmer, but sadly, it's all I can do to keep from drowning, lol.

You're very balanced, it seems, between eating and exercising. I'm struggling with this right now, so it's nice to have you as a "role model" :-)

Wednesday's meals - toast with honey and pb, coffee with oat milk x 2, burrito, rice with beef and broccoli, coke zero. 1,644 calories.

I didn't exercise yesterday, not formally anyways. I did run around at the gym for three hours, so I think that should be counted. It was a good shift, ending with a nice chat with two of my gym friends about the coronavirus and what it's done to our families and friends, reiterating that now is the time to be diligent, and try to keep a positive outlook.

I bought supper for myself yesterday - take out from the Wok Box. I got their mongolian beef and broccoli bowl. Delicious. I have some leftover rice from that to use for meals today. Wasn't very hungry yesterday, calories might be lower than what they could be.

Getting together with friends tonight for a birthday celebration. Same friends I usually meet up with, so no one new and at a friend's place so not even out at a restaurant or anything.

I would try to get out on the bike today, but i've developed a large boil on the inside of my thigh from my gravel ride, and it's a little tender. Biking more would just aggravate it. I'm not sure what to do in place of biking, so i'll have to think about that - maybe go for a walk or a jog if that doesn't exacerbate the boil. This is the not so pretty side of cycling LOL. I should have used lubricating cream, but I only think of it after i've done the ride, instead of before.

grannyannie on 07/09/2020:
Enjoy the birthday party! Boil? Ouch!

bearcountrygg on 07/09/2020:
That boil sounds painful.

Donkey on 07/09/2020:
You are right! Now is the time to remain vigilant.

Sorry to hear about the boil. Can you put some Prid or menthol on it to shrink it?

Horn_of_plenty on 07/10/2020:
also maybe a band-aid might help the boil or other cream...i hope you feel better from that!

good to see your socially distant close friends. i have just been seeing ricky now which is FINE by me!

yes, i'd say walking around a gym for 3 hours counts as movement!

Tuesday's meals - toast with honey and pb, coffee with oat milk x 2, burritos, 1/4 of a lenny & lanny's cookie, lentil soup with udon noodles, freezie. 1,799 calories.

I went on a gravel ride after work yesterday. I had an extra coffee in the afternoon, and it seemed to really give me the energy I needed to keep moving once I got home. I took half a protein cookie with me in case I got hungry, but only ended up eating half of it. It was a nice ride, although towards the end my legs were starting to fail so I really had to push to get myself home. Gravel is hard, especially when it's not packed down. Almost fell a couple of times, but saved myself at the last second!

1 hour, 33 minutes; 642 calories burned.

Tonight I work at the gym. If it is not too busy, i'll try to get in a strength workout.

Horn_of_plenty on 07/08/2020:
i've never done a gravel ride! hopefully i can try it in the future...but i am not so sure i'd enjoy it / have the right tires for it! so, who knows!

but i love that you are being active and i also find that a little bit of caffeine / carbs&protein will give me the sufficient energy for an afternoon exercise session.

i've been biking when it's comfortable out in the evenings, at temps that are better for exercising than when the sun is right overhead.

been biking more as it's less pounding on the joints!

bearcountrygg on 07/08/2020:
Gravel ride sounds interesting and exhausting......glad there were no falls....nobody needs that.

A quick check-in today.

Monday's exercise was yardwork - cut the grass and did some weeding. One hour and burned 254 calories.

Monday's meals - toast with honey and pb, coffee with oat milk, chicken burritos, lentil soup with udon noodles, freezie, pretzels, coke zero.

Slowly reeling in my nutrition, trying to choose healthier options and only eat until i'm full rather than until the plate is empty. A little crazy closer to bedtime, but the pretzels seemed to satisfy me long enough to fall asleep.

Going for the same foods today. I needed a nap after work yesterday so i'm not sure how today is going to go. It's hot here and that just zaps the energy right out of me, even though i'd rather have heat than cold. But if it is not too windy after work, maybe a gravel ride would be nice. If not, I always have the spin bike I can jump on for a bit.

bearcountrygg on 07/07/2020:
I think healthier options are the way I'm naturally heading now too...besides...if we have in the nutrition then a little treat on some days won't hurt anything....new habits....breaking the old ones....and giving health a bit more attention...GOOD JOB LEGS!!!! Hope you are feeling better these days.

legcramps on 07/08/2020:
Thanks BCGG, I am feeling a bit better and a little less stressed :) :)

I hope it lasts!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/07/2020:
cutting grass and gardening is hard work! goooo you!

my nutrition is different lately - having a very hard time the past couple days eating meat.

i also reach towards carbs in particular in order to sleep. it seems to work amazingly for me, always.

you are very active so if you need a nap, it's prob a good thing to take it! or coffee ! haha

keep on, you sound really good! you still have some nice energy from your vacation! :)

legcramps on 07/08/2020:
Thanks!

Carbs give me energy - good carbs, that is. It's amazing how much better they make me feel!

Donkey on 07/07/2020:
Where I have problems is that brain signal that tells me when I full. It doesn't kick in quick enough.

legcramps on 07/08/2020:
Yes, I really have to force myself to slow down when I eat and let my stomach catch up to me.

Here it is, already July! Where does the time go?

We left for my cousin's on July 1st and just got back home last night. It's the longest stretch of "away time" we've had for months, and I really have no words to describe how wonderful it felt to not be at work, at home, or anywhere in the immediate vicinity of either of those things.

Truly unplugged for a few days.

Got a lot of visiting in with family as well. Mostly though, we spent time paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, boating, floating, and napping.

My cousin makes her own bread - it is gluten and soy free, among other things. She also makes her own snacks, and we enjoyed her sesame 'crack', and kale chips with a zuchinni dressing or hummus. for breakfast, we had toast with honey and pb, and espresso. We ate at a smokehouse twice, which was delicious. I had brisket both times, with sweet potato and chipotle sauce. There were enough leftovers from this for two more meals. The only other meal we had was when we roasted hot dogs near the water. There was so much to do, we really didn't focus on food until Saturday night, when we all had a touch of heat stroke and I was in desperate need of ALL the sodium.

I'm going to try to really watch what i'm eating this week. I have quite a few home-made chicken burritos that I am storing in the freezer, and I think i'll bring some of those out for this week because they are really healthy with lots of veggies.

I'd love to make a big batch of vegetable salad - maybe with couscous, and eat from that this week as well. If I can get to the grocery store today, i'll do that.

So far, i've had toast with honey and pb, and coffee with oat milk. I do love and appreciate my oat milk!

bearcountrygg on 07/06/2020:
Nice to hear that you had a wonderful relaxing time......you were due for that. Hot dogs here today too.

grannyannie on 07/06/2020:
Sounds like a great trip!

Horn_of_plenty on 07/06/2020:
i mostly do the almond milk, taking a break though from it and mostly having coconut milk now (also low cal at 50 cal per cup!)

your trip sounds spectacular especially all the exercise. i've been taking a break today from most exercise and in general i'm not pushing it due to my ankle bothering me as well as a broken toe!

but your trip sounds good because you were active and enjoying time in the sun, you even napped. it sounds spectacular.

i was "on vacation" for awhile here, now just trying to get some work done at home for my class!

Donkey on 07/07/2020:
Your post has shown me that I need a break away as well.

Maria7 on 07/07/2020:
Hope you have a good day.

I did not do very well at all with eating yesterday, but - even though I was so sore - I went for a walk in the evening and got my 10,000 steps in at least.

But for real, I was having some trouble walking yesterday LOL. Feeling a little less sore today.

The weather has been anticlimactic around here. We were preparing to get a whole lot of rain, but all that's come so far is a steady drizzle for the last couple of days. Now I know how people who live in BC feel when it is raining all the time.

My aunt with the recent health issues is back at home resting. I think we'll leave her alone while she is still recovering, and head to my cousin's as we had initially planned. I am so looking forward to some time away without the requirement to do much of anything.

I desperately need to reel in my eating; my cousin's should be a good place to do this - she is on a strict nutrition plan as she has so many allergies. It won't kill me to bend to her plan for a few days. And when I get back i'll have to really start working harder in this area. It's fine while i'm working it off, but as I am not doing the same volume of workouts as I used to do, the weight is starting to pile up and I have been really feeling it the past couple of days.

Started the day with toast and pb, and coffee with oat milk and sugar.

I have leftover chicken fingers, rice and veggies to eat for lunch, with honey dill sauce.

Homemade healthy chicken burritos for supper! With a little dollop of sour cream.

Will try and stick to protein shakes or bars for snacks if I need them.

grannyannie on 06/30/2020:
Good meals.

happy-1 on 06/30/2020:
Hugs. It's hard to do nutrition control when everyone is under so much stress. You're doing a good job of staying in motion. You'll feel so great after you get your food under control. How will you reward yourself every time you make a healthier choice?

bearcountrygg on 06/30/2020:
Glad to hear your aunt is back home now and that you will able keep your prior plans.....have a great trip!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/30/2020:
i FEEL YOU on trouble walking....I stubbed my toe, hard, and may have actually fractured my baby toe ! not doing anything about it, but it's def hurting when i put pressure on it! not much can be done for a broken pinky toe so i'm letting it heal on its own.

ohh the honey dill sauce! sounds lovely as does all your meals today!!!

nutrition can get so wacky...lately i have to actually force in veggies! never in my life LOL was i eating as little veggies as i am now! (just not in the mood for them as much while home!)

Maria7 on 07/01/2020:
Hoping your Aunt is soon better and that you've had a good day today.

Donkey on 07/03/2020:
I'd be interested to hear if staying with your cousin helped with your eating.

KathyBlue on 07/06/2020:
oh interesting with the cousin, keep us informed how it goes!

BF and I were up late playing games on our iPads last night, and now i'm almost zombie-like at work. However, I am impressed with the amount of work i'm still managing to get through. My only hope is that i'm actually doing it right and won't have to backtrack and do it all again tomorrow. I know I keep saying the same thing, but I really need to get to sleep earlier when i'm with BF.

I applied for another job last week, but this one is even further away and i'd have to find somewhere to stay during the week and just come home on the weekends. It's not very appealing, but again - I might not even get an interview for these positions. Often, they already have someone else in mind for them. Will keep looking!

Had a very eventful weekend...

I had some yardwork to do on my day off on Friday, and ran some other errands before driving to BF's. On Saturday we did an early morning workout at the gym, and in the late afternoon we went biking on the trails. I fell, I may have cried, and I tried to nurse the road rash on my leg for the rest of the evening. The weather was dreary on Sunday, and so were all of our moods. We lazed around most of the day, until BF decided to tear apart his upstairs bathroom (he wants to renovate it). I helped with that for a bit, and then we went to the gym again. Up early this morning to head home and get back to work.

We ate fairly well. Brisket burgers on Saturday, and chicken quesadillas last night which were delicious. I also recall a very thick ham and cheese sandwich with lots of mustard, some watermelon, protein pancakes with turkey bacon, hot coffee, and an ice cold smoothie. Last night I had a little vanilla ice cream in a waffle bowl with some chocolate on top.

I work today and tomorrow, and then i'm off until Monday. We were planning to visit my cousin on the farm, but my aunt has since had some health issues and we may change our plans to see her instead, depending on how she is recovering (and unfortunately, also depending on how many people she's had to interact with recently).

Definitely a rest day today. I can barely walk, my glutes and quads are absolutely trashed. Looking forward to my massage chair later!

bearcountrygg on 06/29/2020:
Ice cream always does make boo boos feel better...it's a fact!! No wonder you are sore....((HUGS))

Horn_of_plenty on 06/29/2020:
i've been having chicken bacon :)

the brisket burgers sound really tasty.

sorry about your leggies...i'm sure the massage will help.

it's hard to start a whole new job or even get the interview, i totally understand more than you could ever imagine!

There is not much on the job boards for my area right now... I did apply for a privacy analyst position yesterday, but it is in a city an hour and a half away so i'm not sure how I would make that work. However, sometimes it is just a conversation with the supervisor and an option will present itself ...you never know, so I must try everything.

BF and his daughter came for a visit last night. We did not make it to the lake; BF's daughter wanted to hang out with a friend so we stayed in town. I got all my yardwork done, washed dishes, and even did a load of laundry. We made chicken, rice and veggies for supper and BF brought some creamy honey dill dip for us to try - it was delicious.

Today passes quickly hopefully. I have an evening meeting that i'm not looking forward to, but will tell myself that it will be awesome and so it shall be - right?! LOL

Giving myself the permission to look for a different position has been slightly freeing, and i'm not feeling quite as trapped as I was yesterday. Something will come up, it's only a matter of time.

Another sunny day today! I have Friday off! A weekend full of zero plans!

bearcountrygg on 06/24/2020:
Make the weekend yours...I love no plan weekends!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/24/2020:
Could you possibly move to a different Dept at the hospital ??

legcramps on 06/29/2020:
There aren't a lot of jobs here that are out of scope - most are in the union and since I am out of scope it would be like starting over completely. Plus I would take a large cut in pay if I stayed here.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/24/2020:
Meaning the place you currently work

KathyBlue on 06/25/2020:
oh 1,5h is rough... but can be done, I had jobs like that. Take it as something temporary until you find something closer. Or eventually you could have a deal with them to do 1-2 days home office per week. If there is something revolutionary nowadays in this whole mess, is the employers finally discovering that home office and remote work is not the boogie man, but can be cost effective and productive on both sides.

legcramps on 06/29/2020:
Yes, exactly my thoughts!

legcramps - Tuesday Jun 23, 2020

Oof, it was a busy week and weekend, and yesterday at work was crazy too. Hopefully it will die off a bit now.

It is so hot here today, which to some of you would not seem very hot at all. A nice sunny day. We may try to hit the lake after work to soak up some of these hard to find rays.

I have a great job at the hospital; I am good at it, people trust and acknowledge my experience, and I have a semblance of control over the work that I do. However, for the last few years it's been becoming more and more difficult to work with certain people. My trust in the healthcare system has also waned quite significantly. Due to the extra levels of stress these past few months, it has been even more difficult.

I think I am just at the stage now where I quite dislike having work piled on me as a last resort. Well, I don't know - let legcramps fix it. Oh, this has to be sent in today - legcramps will do it. We need a new template and process for receipting? Yes, i'm sure legcramps has nothing better to do, give it to her.

I've had a discussion with BF, and I am going to start looking for something else. I hate to do it - it's like staring a gift horse in the mouth - but I need to find something that gives me more joy. It may take months for that to happen, but I am going to start looking today, and will continue once a week or once every couple of weeks until I see something that speaks to me. I'll do my best to stay within the healthcare system because I do not want to give up my many perks - as HoP mentions - we also get a good pension, great benefits, etc. and I've been here for over 19 years now. But it's time for me to move on, and leave this part of my life behind me.

innerpeace on 06/23/2020:
Thank you for working during this difficult time. I was also in that situation before moving, I was told I had to say NO more often. Enjoy your sunshine! Good luck job hunting.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/23/2020:
Good luck legs in your search and I cross my fingers that you can find employment in your field just a different office / hospital !!!! You have a nice resume of a long relationship at your workplace so it should work in your favor !!!!!!

bearcountrygg on 06/23/2020:
I also loved my job ( medical secretary)....and if I ever had to go back to work again ( god help me...LOL)...I would head right back to that again....it was the most fulfilling job I have ever had. I don't blame you for not wanting to give up the benefits.....when you do retire you will be so thankful for that pension.....and medical jobs generally have great healthcare perks.

Donkey on 06/23/2020:
Good idea to start looking while you have these luxury of time and choice. See what's out there, meet new people at interviews, learn how people do things differently.

Or, after looking, you might decide to stay where you're at. That happened to me.
