Chewie IS very cute, borntocry! I'm sure you'd fall in love with him as fast as I have!

I've been pretty busy here lately, which is why I haven't been commenting on other diaries. I've been reading them all though. Hopefully today i'll have some time to comment.

Yesterday I ended up having pork and a mixture of yams, carrots, and potatoes for dinner. This morning so far i've had eggs and toast with coffee again for breakfast. Oh, and yesterday I also had a banana and an apple. I haven't tried the avocadoes yet, i've never tasted them before and they look a little disconcerting! But i'll try them out today, before they start to ripen too much.

I went for a walk yesterday, not much of one because I had the puppy with me, but still a walk. He's much better at staying beside me now. And, except for the slight accident when BF came home and Chewie got a little too excited, he's been toileting in basically one area in the backyard! Yay! I'm excited! The only thing left that he MUST be taught is to not bite. That's proving to be a struggle.

Today's plan is a tuna salad sandwich for lunch, and leftover pork and veggies for dinner. I have a banana for the morning, and i'll grab an avocado for this afternoon's snack. A walk after work, coffee with a friend, a few phone calls regarding my volleyball team, take in a movie, and call it a night. Easy!

geevee on 09/28/2004:
Avocado is rather bland. I like to cut it up in cubes, then add sliced onion, half a lemon or lime(we're big on limes in Miami), salt and a bit of olive oil. I usually eat a half an avocado and then quickly cover the other half before it turns brown. Squeezing lemon or lime on it will do the trick too. It's also good in a salad.

I'm glad things are getting better with Chewie. Pretty soon, all your work will pay off and he'll be the model dog. It sounds like you have a great plan for today. Keep up the great work.

borntocry on 09/29/2004:
Hi legcramps! Thanks for your comment.

Good job on training Chewie not to use the bathroom all over the yard! That must have been difficult. Well done!

As for avocados, I think they're good diced, in salads, or sometimes I put a slice on top of a veggie burger or in a sandwich. They're nice that way too. I also make my own guacamole by chopping a little onion, tomato, garlic and cilantro and adding it to mashed avocado, with some lime juice so that it doesn't darken. That's the problem with avocado - once it's cut it starts to turn black. Apparently wrapping it in seran wrap can help preserve its colour.

Weight: 132.0

Well, I kind of figured that I wouldn't be able to maintain that weight without proper exercise and SOME kind of fitness regime! But, I should be very thankful that all I put on was half a pound. It could've been much more!

I was sick over the weekend, but by Sunday was feeling much better, and today I think i'm as good as new. Well, almost, anyways. Seems I had a little infection, and since my immune system is shot, I really wasn't able to fight it myself. But even with the meds, I still felt terrible and I hate feeling that way. Thanks for all the concern showed to me the past few days, it's really appreciated. Unfortunately, I work in a setting where it's very easy to pick up any little bug, and I seem to be under the weather quite a bit because of that. But, on to more positive things!

I ate well over the weekend, with one splurge on a cheeseburger and 16 ounces of root beer yesterday. To add to my batallion of oranges, apples and bananas, I now have avocadoes, nectarines and honeydew melon. I don't think i've seen this much fruit in one place in my whole life! And I think I ate peanut butter with every single piece of fruit I had! Oh, i'm almost peanut-buttered out!

Chewy is learning to walk and follows behind me quite well now, although he has an odd habit of jumping around like a kangaroo! We went to the park yesterday and had a great day plowing through the tall grass and eating pine cones. He's VERY good at growling now, and almost always barks when he doesn't get his way! He's into everything, and is taking a lot of energy out of BF and I, but we shall prevail, and be wiser people in the end! Actually, it was a lot of fun this weekend with the puppy, and i'm sure he will be a lot more fun once he can run around and play with us!

Today's plan: breakfast was two eggs with toast and a cup of coffee. Lunch will be leftover yams and carrots, and a peanut butter sandwich. Dinner might be either porkchops or a baked chicken, not sure yet if i'll have the time for the latter, with side of yams. My exercise will be outside in the back yard with Chewy, trying to teach him to go to the bathroom in only one spot instead of the whole yard! I don't know how many times i've had to clean off my shoes! Have a good one today!

borntocry on 09/28/2004:
Hi legcramps! I'm glad to see you're feeling better. I was a bit worried about you!

Chewy sounds so cute, by the way!

Weight: 131.5

I forgot to weigh myself this morning, as I won't be here tomorrow or on the weekend. Well, I guess Monday i'll post what it is.

I'm not extremely chipper today, still very tired. I'm getting quite sick actually I think. I'm going to try and make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow because I have the day off. I'm not sure what's wrong, but my back and abdomen hurt, and i'm always ready to sleep. It's probably not major, but better safe than sorry, right?

I ate a ham sandwich yesterday for dinner, then later had a couple cups of coffee and a glass of crangrape juice. I also ate an orange and an apple last night. Today i've had eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast, and brought a banana and some crangrape juice to work. I went out and bought some fruit last night to try and flush out my body, so for the next few days hopefully i'll be eating a lot of that, and drinking a lot of fluids.

I hope to do nothing this weekend. I need some rest. It's not that I can't exercise, but the simple fact is - i'd rather complain about being sick....

Becca27 on 09/23/2004:
Have a wonderful weekend and rest up!

TheMother on 09/23/2004:
Very smart move to visit the doctor if you're not feeling better by tomorrow. Hopefully, you will be able to find out what it is, treat it and feel better over the weekend. Enjoy (as best you can) your 3-day weekend. Next week I'm planning a 3-dayer msyelf (Friday is my BD so I thought I'd take the day off - can't wait!!!!).

Take care,

SarahBeth on 09/23/2004:
Hope you feel better soon!

borntocry on 09/25/2004:
Hey legcramps! I hope you're feeling better by Monday. Weren't you sick just recently too? I think it's a good idea to rest yourself and to have a lot of fruit and fluids. Take care of yourself, girl!

Weight: 131.5

Okay, i'm tired.

Yesterday I had leftover rice and veggies, then made a ham for dinner. I didn't have any of it though. I ate a couple pieces of toast with peanut butter instead. I just wanted to sleep last night!

I feel like we've started over with Chewy about 10,000 times now. Every time I think we're making progress, he does something intolerable and makes me absolutely crazy! But he's so cute when he tries to bark! And, i've almost taught him to 'come'. I think 'sit' will be next.

No exercise.

Today: rice and veggies for lunch, ham for dinner, pictures of Chewy, shower and sleep. That's all I can handle today.

nettyb40 on 09/22/2004:
Don't let the doggie make you crazy. He can't help it, he's just a baby. Just keep working and he'll get it eventually.

Keep at it. Both the doggie and the weight loss will be worth the effort.

subway girl on 09/22/2004:
I'm feeling you on the "need sleep" thing. I am exhausted too! The best thing for us- eat well balanced meals and catch up on those z's! I hope you are feeling more rested tomorrow! Have a great wednesday.

Becca27 on 09/22/2004:
You can make it through the puppy stage. Just think, this is preparing you for parenthood. It will get better. Great job eating - you seem like you're managing well.

malh on 09/22/2004:
I hate being tired...its one of my number one reasons for me to overeat.... Your "chewy" sounds adorable...My son who is 15 keeps wanting a dog and then my 22 year old son keeps emailing me pictures of cute dogs from the humane society....I would but I've been through that puppy stage one too many times...

Weight: 131.5

Hello all.

My eating was alright yesterday. I had some leftover chicken from Sunday's dinner for lunch, and then I made brown rice with veggies and a mushroom sauce with grilled peppers. Lots of veggies for dinner! Today is leftover rice and veggies for lunch, and hopefully i'll get a ham in the oven and that will be ready for dinner tonight. Then it's ham sandwiches all week! Yum!

I didn't get any exercising done yesterday. Once I got home from work, I had to look after Chewbaka, then cook supper, then run to my apartment to pick up some more supplies while i'm staying at BF's temporarily (okay, I didn't run...) until I can get packed and moved. I was pooped after that and I fell asleep while BF watched a couple of movies. Then Chewy woke me up every few hours for a potty break and now here I am. I blasted myself with cold water in the shower this morning just to try and wake myself up! Oy, it's going to be a long one today, I think! Already I have things planned right after work which means I probably won't get home until later on tonight, so i'm not sure about exercise again. But the eating's going well, and hopefully i'll at least maintain this weight for the week. My goal weight is 130 pounds right now. I'm not really very skinny at the weight i'm at now, I have an odd body shape. My torso is very long, and my legs are very short, so although the weight is distributed evenly, it looks like my lower body is much bigger. It's kind of frustrating, but if I keep toned and get to 130, I might be content with that!

Well, back to work I go. I've been watching all the Star Wars movies lately, because of Chewbaka, and i've caught myself talking like Yoda. A little bit crazy, I am.....

Have a good one today!

Becca27 on 09/21/2004:
You're almost there!!!!! I'm only 5'3.5" but I, too have a very long torso. My legs are short and my butt is big. Of course, I have no chest either. It can be frustrating. I can't wait to read when you reach your goal! I haven't watched the original Star Wars movies in ages. Hope all is well with your Chewbaka. Have a good one!

shellybelly on 09/21/2004:
Have a good today!

TheMother on 09/21/2004:
Hello and thanks for the helpful comments about my food plan. Just to clarify, the reduced calorie bread (Pepperidge Farm) is the 7 or 12 grain type, not white. I've basically given up white bread not to mention bagels which I love. Haven't had one since early July and to tell you the truth, I really don't miss it.

Congrats on the new addition to the family. I love the name!!!! My family is Star Wars fanatics so I know all about Chewbacca. Enjoy your new pet. We have a cat (named Fluffy) and we love her dearly. She is a true member of the family. You will grow to feel the same way about your puppy.

Have a GREAT day...

gigi43 on 09/21/2004:
Thanks for the comment - to answer your questions I do around 20 minutes of upper body work to keep my back strong because of my scoliosis and then I do between 30 and 45 minutes of cardio. I also throw some crunches in there - about 200 or so. Hope your plan is going well - sounds like you're doing just fine!

borntocry on 09/22/2004:
Hi legcramps!

I had to laugh at the comment you left me... because I actually think that getting up at six and going for a run is bit out there, too! I'm so lazy I have to be dragged out of bed just to get to work by 9:45. And that's where one of the advantages of working in France comes into play... people have a much more laidback lifestyle here.

You must be happy to be so near your goal weight. I'm afraid to weigh myself now... I fear what I might see on the scale! But maybe I'll get around to it on the weekend.

It seems like you're becoming a master chef, by the way! That mushroom sauce sounds really good!

Umpqua on 09/22/2004:
Wow, congratulations on the weight - you're doing so well! And the puppy also, although I'm sure he's a handful. We got our dog when he was 2 and fully trained and he was still a handful - still is! Enjoy though, there's nothing quite like having a puppy around. And keep up the great work!

Weight: 131.5

I'm logging in kind of late today, but i've been a little busy at work, so, you know...

Doing good lately, even with the puppy around to keep me busy! I stayed in almost the whole weekend, looking after him. Boy, did he ever keep me awake! We did finally come up with a name - actually, it was the first one I suggested to BF. Chewbaka. I don't know if that spelling is correct. Remember Star Wars? Then you should remember Chewbaka, the sweet lovable whatever the heck he was...puppy is named after him and also because he chews just about everything he can get his teeth into!! Our short name for him is chewy...

Anyhow, eating was alright. I kept to my cooked meals except for dinner on Friday night and dinner last night. I just was too tired to cook at these times. Anyhow, I won't get into it in detail because I, of course, didn't write anything down and so can't really remember everything I ate. I know I had a cheeseburger on Friday night, with about 16oz pop, and on Sunday I had chicken fingers with dip and a salad with ranch dressing. The rest of my meals consisted of stew and chili, and a breakfast of bacon and eggs! I think I did alright, but eating wasn't on my priority list this weekend.

I already missed our home-opener hockey game because of puppy, and I won't be going to wallyball on Wednesday because I would be gone for too long. I did take him out for a walk on Sunday morning, but he can't really walk yet (he's kind of clumsy and wobbles all over the place!), so we go fairly slow! I'm hoping he'll have a little more control over his legs soon so that we can go for long walks together. In the snowy cold. I also went downstairs to the gym twice on the weekend and rode the bike and lifted weights, while chewy was sleeping.

Well, hopefully soon my exercise regime will get back to normal so that I can keep this weight off! Until then, i'll keep posting here and watching what I put into my mouth. I'll never give up!

Take care!

Becca27 on 09/20/2004:
The first few months with a pup are hard. To me, it was like having another kid. It will get better. We used to crate ours even if we went to buy milk - now she has free reign over the house all day. You chose a cute name. I'm impressed with your active weekend! I'm much better able to exercse during the week. Sat and Sun never work - too many activities for kids.

Runner on 09/20/2004:
Congrats on your weight loss! You'll be out of the 130's in no time! What is your goal weight? Keep up the good work! :)

borntocry on 09/21/2004:
Hi legcramps!

Congratulations on the weight loss. Now that I've found out how tall you are, I know you must be pretty skinny at that weight...

Good work keeping up with the exercise despite the new arrival. That shows real determination, in my opinion. I know that for me, exercise is just about my lowest priority activity, hehe. If ever anything else comes up, exercise loses out!

legcramps - Friday Sep 17, 2004

Weight: 131.5

A-ha! I knew it! Woah, i'm flabbergasted.

Yesterday after work I had 1/2 an egg salad sandwich, a cheeseburger and 1 cup potatoes. I had some pop too, hopefully that won't come back to haunt me in the next couple of days. Anyways, even after all that bread, I still managed to record a pretty big loss this week! I'm very pleased.

I have other good news as well - my BF and I just got a puppy! He's a mix, black lab and a couple other ones I can't remember. We haven't named him yet - can't think of anything. Anyways, I was up all night because he was screaming and crying so often. I couldn't sleep because of it, so I just sat beside him and tried to get him to sleep. He slept probably as much as I did! We were thinking of getting a dog, but we weren't expecting one so soon! We weren't ready for it, and because of that the dog didn't have much of a bed, or space to play, etc. Today i'm going to head out and buy some much needed equipment. All we got yesterday was food, some treats, and a couple toys. The food he didn't even eat; this morning BF had to run to a corner store and get soft cat food because that was all there was. We tried softening the dog food, but no go. He just doesn't like it. Anyhow, he loved the cat good, so go figure. I hope it's alright that we fed cat food to a dog. I'm going to go to the store today and get soft dog food for him.

Because of the new arrival, I did no exercise yesterday. I'll try to get some this weekend. I want to get some supplies and start cleaning my place and organizing things. I'm probably going to move to BF's while he's out of town working, so that I can save some rent money. That means lots of packing for me!

So, anyone have any unique dog names?

geevee on 09/17/2004:
ALL RIGHT! Way to go! Geez, you were at 133 for awhile. How long? It's like me with 127. I won't even talk about the couple of odd days when it was 126.5, a little more than 15min., but not much! You're just around the corner from the 120's!

Weight: 133.0

I'm so looking forward to my weigh-in tomorrow. I won't screw it up tonight so that tomorrow i'll hopefully have a great new weight! But I woke up this morning feeling and looking very bloated, and i'm not sure why. This is what I ate yesterday, after work: snack of 2oz cheese, 6 crackers and 1 slice ham, one egg salad sandwich and one cup of stew (had beef, sweet potato, carrots, celery, onions, and beef boullion). I don't understand? The broth maybe? Oy. Anyways, I know it wasn't much, so I know this temporary bloating will go away if I only give it time!

I went for a walk yesterday, didn't manage to get any running in because I had a backpack and my BF with me, so we just went for a leisurely walk. Better than nothing, like I always say!

I've had eggs and toast so far this morning, and for lunch is half an egg salad sandwich with a half cup of stew. Same thing for dinner. Oh, good stew! I love it, it's so tasty! I can't believe it worked out on my very first try!

geevee on 09/16/2004:
It was probably the ham and boullion. Same thing happened to me today, an unexplained gain of one pound. It's SO annoying!

Becca27 on 09/16/2004:
Are you going to Weight Watchers? Good luck on hte weigh in.

Runner on 09/16/2004:
HI! I hope your weigh-in is very encouraging for you! I'm sure the bloated feeling is from the ham, cheese, and soup. All of them are rather salty. I bloat very easily myself.

Have a great weekend!

borntocry on 09/17/2004:
Hi legcramps!

Here's the recipe for Sicilian Lentil Pasta Sauce. I got it from allrecipes.com. I halved the recipe. I'd actually found this recipe ages ago but was a bit hesitant to make it because my boyfriend/husband is a bit picky when it comes to vegetables. But he went crazy over it. He couldn't stop talking about how great it was.

Anyway, here it is:

2 teaspoons olive oil
1 cup chopped onion
2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
1 small zucchini, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup dry lentils
3 cups water
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
1/2 cup water

DIRECTIONS:
Bring lentils and 3 cups water to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook 45 to 60 minutes.

In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onions, mushrooms, zucchini, and garlic. Cook and stir until tender, about 5 minutes.

Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, vegetables, and 1/2 cup water to lentils. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes. If necessary, add more water to keep the sauce from sticking. Be careful not to dilute; the sauce should be quite thick.

Weight: 133.0

I'm still floating around with that 'thin' feeling today. Yesterday was good except for the ice cream treat that I had after dinner. Whoops! I ate a cup of vanilla ice cream, about 200 cals. But, in my own defense, i'd been craving sweets for three days straight and found the willpower to resist each of those three days. I think it was only a matter of time! I'm not craving anything like that today, and so i'm thinking i'll be okay now for a few more days. Oh boy, let that be true!!!

Yesterday I also had two chicken fajitas. One for lunch and one for dinner. I didn't want the chili, so my BF ate it for me. I was just getting sick of eating chili all the time! Today started off with eggs, lunch will be another fajita, and for dinner i'm making beef stew with egg salad sandwiches! I know, but it was a request made by my BF. How can I argue with that?! I picked out a great recipe for the stew, made all by stove top, so I think it should go well. I don't have wallyball tonight, I guess i'm taking the week off as no one has e-mailed me yet to ask if I want to play.

Last night I made it to the gym!! Yay! I went 20 minutes on the stationary bike, then lifted weights for 15 minutes. Not bad. I'll take it; it's better than nothing! Tonight i'm hoping for a walk/jog through the park. I hope it's nice outside later on today so that I can.

I hope you're all doing your very best. Stay strong and have a great day today!

nettyb40 on 09/15/2004:
A one time treat is not that much. It sounds to me like you have a good plan in place. Try to keep variety in your food so you don't get bored and frustrated.

Thank you for your support.

geevee on 09/15/2004:
Hey, 200 cal. isn't bad for such a tasty treat, and you deserve it after your terrible weekend.

About the high solium content of commercial soups in your comment to Teacup - I usually make my own soup for just that reason. I break my rule when the New England Clam Chowder is on sale, 2 for 1. I can't resist.

Princess_Teacup on 09/15/2004:
Thanks for the BF advice. It's really very helpful. He's a really good person but I'm very frustrated and unsure as what the right thing to do is.

As for the soup, I usually make a pot of veggie soup with a handful of egg noodles at the beginning of the week and eat it until it's gone or I can't take it anymore. It does have a lot of salt. I don't know how you get around that. Food that's mostly water tends not to have a lot of flavor. It is my impression that homemade soups would be lower in sodium than canned but I have no information to back that up.

Stringbean on 09/15/2004:
Sometimes those sweet cravings can be killer!! Good for you for keeping it at 200 calories!

Thanks for leaving comments at my diary- I really appreciate knowing someone is there rooting me along! And the crash wasn't major- it actually came from my daughter's room, she dropped a basket of toys. No big deal (you can bet she cleaned it up! lol)

Hi legcramps! Congratulations on that thin feeling. You deserve it after all your good work.

I think you did the right thing by treating yourself to a little ice-cream. I'm a firm believer in the dangers of deprivation. If you let it build up too much it can get the better of you in a big way! (Well, that's my experience, anyway!)

It looks like you're doing plenty of cooking too. It's fun, isn't it? And I think it can be quite healthy to prepare your own meals. That way you know exactly what goes into them. Keep it up!

subway girl on 09/16/2004:
Thanks for your comment :) You are doing great too! My goal is to lose 5 pounds, preferably by October. I weigh myself every saturday morning and the way I keep track of it in my diary is by putting the number that I have left to lose under where it says weight. Hence the reason there is a 3 instead of a much larger number under weight in my diary! I obviously do not weigh 3 pounds!! Oh, and the cereal, haha I didn't put the water on the cereal, I put milk on it, but I drank a glass of water with it! Water on cereal would be pretty gross! Have a great day :)

legcramps - Tuesday Sep 14, 2004

Weight: 133.0

When I jumped in the shower this morning, I couldn't help but realize how much smaller my waist felt as compared to ten pounds ago. My clothes slide on now, instead of me having to wriggle into them! It felt great, so when I got out of the bathroom, I just stood in front of the mirror for awhile. I don't usually give myself a lot of time to get ready in the morning, so needless to say, I was late for work by about five minutes! For admiring myself in the mirror!

I wanted chocolate or chips last night in the worst way. My BF and I were watching movies all last night, and one movie in particular I found extremely boring. Once i'm bored, I either have to do something else, or I get 'hungry'. I sat it out though, and my BF helped a lot when he made no move to offer to go uptown for me! After an hour or so I grabbed some cheese and a few crackers and made do with that.

No exercise yesterday, like I said. My stomach muscles are still sore today, but getting much better. Thanks for all the comments and 'get better' messages you girls left me yesterday. Today I want to hit the gym and do some lifting. I had eggs this morning so far, and lunch is leftover chili. I made chicken fajitas yesterday for dinner, so i'll probably have those leftovers today for dinner. I'm doing really good on the water, considering I was sick over the weekend.

Okay, that's it for now! Have a great day everyone! Stay Strong!

What a thrill to be able to slip easily into clothes instead of tugging and pulling, etc. All of your hard work and dedication is paying off just like the expression "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels". Enjoy it!

When I get bored, I, too, usually turn to food for something to do. That's one of my biggest problems - the other is I eat 1/2 a meal or more just by tasting everything when I cook. That's why even though my family says I'm a good cook, I don't enjoy it. I'd sooner wash windows or work out in the yard because I'm out of the kitchen and away from all of that temptation.

Have a GREAT Tuesday!

I read your entry for today and found it quite entertaining that you were late for work because of admiring yourself in the mirror! I think that is actually a very good thing that you could do that- look in the mirror and be so happy that you just have to keep looking! Congrats :) Also, thanks for the comment and the motivation! It feels so good to be eating right and exercising! Stay focused and you will reach your goals!

Oh I can't wait to be able to see some changes! You are doing really good- Congratualtions!

Yesterday, I went walking through our neighborhood, where there's still a LOT of construction going on, and I swear all those construction workers looked at me like they'd never seen anyone walk before. ::Shudder:: I'm going to try finding a better route- one that doesn't take me through the construction anymore. I'm going to start working Tae Bo into my schedule more, too.

Keep up the good work!
