Weight: 134.5

Yesterday's changes:

food: added 1/2 cup mashed potatoes and 1 serving pretzels. did not have the 2nd granola bar.

exercise: did not get on the bike, but took the dog for a walk instead.

I feel bulky today. I threw on my favorite shirt and pants to make me feel better because I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. But my favorite pants are tight around the tummy. I wonder if i'm bloated. Will try to wear them again next week.

food: toast with light margarine and a slice of balogne, granola bar, salad, chicken breast with lettuce, red pepper and mashed potatoes, granola bar.

exercise: 1.5hrs painting, 1hr Aquasize.

I grilled fish on the bbq last night for dinner and since my boyfriend usually gets home late, saved some for him on the counter. Unfortunately (I say that a lot) the dog got to taste it before he did. Was I ever angry! But it may have been a good thing, because I was feeling pretty rotten after eating dinner yesterday and thought that it might have had something to do with the fish. Of course, the dog was fine.

borntocry on 07/20/2005:
Hi legcramps,

Sounds like you had a pretty horrible day. That sucks! Hope today goes better for you.

Thanks for your comment. I can so relate to what you wrote about not wanting your boyfriend to get pizza after you've eaten. I have exactly the same problem. In fact I always try to eat dinner at the same time as my husband because otherwise I know I'm going to be tempted to have whatever he's having, even if I'm already completely full!

And thanks for your encouragement on the running front. I kept thinking of your words "get out there and run" all day yesterday. Unfortunately (you see I say that a lot too) I didn't end up doing it, once again, but not for lack of motivation this time!

I had a very short weekend, and although it wasn't as wasted as I initially thought it would be, I still didn't get much done. I'm starting to hate the fact that there is so much to do during the summer and absolutely diddly-squat during the winter months.

Being away from the house on the weekend did nothing to help my diet. Friday night we did end up going to the bbq, where I had a hotdog and some different salads (macaroni, greek, taco). I also had a few crackers with three different cheeses that were extremely good. The next day I watched ball all day, and didn't have much to eat besides bacon and eggs with salad in the morning, and a few fries in the afternoon. Sunday was my off-day, and boy was it ever off! I can't even think of all the things I ate because it will make me feel nauseus if I do.

food: granola bar, greek salad, grilled fish with lettuce leaves and red pepper, small amount of light Ranch dressing, granola bar.

exercise: 15 (maybe 20) min stationary bike, 1.5hrs ball.

I burned myself whilst making bacon on Saturday morning. Some of the grease from the pan splashed onto my shirt and unfortunately right onto bare tummy skin. It's pretty nasty-looking, and it hurts a bit still. The point? Invest in an apron.

borntocry on 07/19/2005:
Hi legcramps,

You know, a couple of months ago when I was losing weight at the incredible rate of almost a pound a week, I was taking an off-day every week too. It usually wasn't deliberate (hehe) but it obviously didn't set me back too much and may even have helped me by keeping my metabolism up. So don't worry too much about Sunday - just concentrate on the week ahead.

I'm sorry you burned yourself! Sounds like an awkward place for it, too!

food: yogurt granola bar, salad with 3 spare ribs, chocolate mousse with granola, chicken breast with salad, yogurt granola bar. granola granola granola kick!

exercise: 15 min stationary bike, 1 hr Aquasize class.

Hoo, that class last night kicked my butt AGAIN. I'm not feeling it yet, but by tomorrow everything will be sore. My day was so full that when bedtime finally rolled around, I dropped to the pillow and didn't move an inch. As soon as I got home yesterday I started cleaning the house. Chewy must not be feeling well because he had "accidents" all over the place. I had to clean that up, clean up the shoes that were strewn all over the living room, and start a load of laundry. Next I prepared dinner and washed whatever fresh vegetables I bought the day before. We ate, then I cleaned up the leftovers, filled up my water jug and jumped on the bike. It's much more convenient now that my boyfriend offered to carry the bike to the main level of the house. It used to be in the basement, but since it rained so much here lately, the basement is musty and damp and I don't like being down there if I don't have to. After working out I had a meeting to attend, then soon after was swimming class. What a full day! I can't believe I made it without passing out on the couch.

We are supposed to attend a bbq today after work, but i'm really hoping my boyfriend doesn't want to. It just means that more than likely nothing will get done tonight, and nothing will get done tomorrow. I hate it when weekends are wasted.

Does anyone know about woodticks? My dog had one on him a week ago. We got it off, but i'm not sure how long he'd been sucking and from what I hear an animal can get lime disease from woodticks. Since he hasn't been feeling well i've been worried that he might be really sick. Just thought i'd ask before calling the vet.

tabbylove74 on 07/15/2005:
You're quite right..ticks can transmit 3 types of disease, lyme disease being one. I would get your dog to the vet, as he may need a course of antibiotics.

borntocry on 07/16/2005:
Hi legcramps,

I have also heard that ticks can transmit Lyme disease. My dog used to get them all the time and he never got sick, but perhaps you should take Chewy to the vet just to be sure, especially as he hasn't been feeling well.

Thanks for the comment you left me. Don't feel bad about not having the time to go running - I think when it comes to exercise you should never choose something that's inconvenient for you. It's hard enough as it is to overcome the natural reluctance to launch oneself into any kind of vigorous activity without also having to contend with all kinds of other obstacles. Stick to whatever is fun and easy for you to work into your schedule, and you will be less likely to blow it off!

food: granola-yogurt bar, salad, hamburger patty and potatoes, a handful of chips, french vanilla coffee.

exercise: 1.5hrs ball, 30 min dog-walk (including a little jogging), 15 min stationary bike

I completed my goals for yesterday, except for water. I drank only 1 litre instead of 2.

My goals for today:

2 litres water, 15 min stationary bike, 1hr Aquasize class

I'm told that this class burns 400-600 calories in one hour. I thought perhaps that was pushing it a bit, but after Tuesday night's class I tend to agree. My calves are killing me.

Today will be busy again as I have a meeting to go to just before class tonight. It will take much effort to get on the bike after work and still have enough time to make dinner. I know i'll be able to do it, but i'll be a tired little sport tonight. Those yogurt-granola bars are pretty good. I had a strawberry one yesterday and a vanilla one today. I bought a box of 30 for $10CDN. I don't know if that's a good deal or not, but they're good so i'll pay it. Yeah, grocery shopping yesterday was not fun. I paid an arm and a leg for my boneless skinless chicken breast, and boneless skinless salmon. Unfortunately I can't complain too much though, because I COULD take the time to do it myself if I really wanted to save that money. With my time schedule as it is right now, I don't think I want to be sitting at the kitchen counter de-boning fish and cutting off pieces of fat from chicken breasts. So suck it up and pay the extra money. It's just that it was a lot when you're buying enough to last for two and a half weeks! Just wait until I have a family - boy will I be complaining then! Cheapskate!

Hi Legcramps!

It is good to see you're still posting - I read up on your latest ones - you seem to be doing well. How is Chewie? He must be full grown by now. I was up in your neck of the woods last month - actually, I can't remember which Province you live in - H & I went to QC for our anniversary (15 years). It poured the ENTIRE time. We still had a good time, though. We had wonderful food and stayed in a beautiful hotelr - I would like to go back, though, when the weather is nicer. I know the French Canadians have a snobby reputation, but everyone we met was very nice - perhaps that's because we were tourists and they depended on our patronage - either way, I was scared to death going up there, but was pleasantly surprised.

Have a great weekend!!

Hello world!

Now that i'm back in reality (after having four straight days off), i'm having major difficulties getting back into the swing of things.

My days off were well worth it, don't get me wrong, but I seem to always become more laid-back than usual and end up getting nothing done and feeling terrible about myself and my lack of determination in certain matters. Then I come back to work and struggle to maintain/gain back any degree of normalcy I once had.

I did accomplish something while I was off - I wrote down on a calendar that i've posted up on the wall where everyone can see it when i'm going to exercise until the end of the month. I also wrote out a grocery list for today that i'm hoping I can live with until the same time. I usually get one of this and one of that, but i'm concentrating on frozen vegetables and meat due to efficiency and laziness. And yes, i'm lazy. So i'm getting six of this and three of that instead.

Anyhow, according to my calendar, I have plenty of working out to do today, considering I also have to take care of ball business. It goes like this: after work get groceries, unload groceries, call secretary regarding meeting, call coach regarding meeting, call board regarding meeting, set up reservations regarding meeting, i think i wrote down 10-15 minutes on the stationary bike and close to two hours of ball. After that, I need to unload and fold our laundry, try to take the dog for a walk or at the very least outside, take a bath and hit the sack. I need to fit in dinner and a snack in there somewhere too. Plus, another litre of water. Stop me at anytime....

My friend's personal problems are adding up, and they're taking their toll on me. I'm trying to help so much, which is putting a strain on my other relationships and putting pressure on me to always be there for her. People - please don't take a friend's help for granted! Don't suck the life out of them because in the end, they won't be much help at all!

I want to sleep, but there is no possible way. Until tomorrow...

food: chef's salad, chicken breast with potatoes, peas and swiss cheese, 1 slice of chocolate cream pie. The pie was 350 calories.

exercise: walking dog, 5 minutes elliptical. Hoy, that thing kicked my butt on Wednesday. Woohoo, 5 minutes....

food: salami sandwich on brown, corn chowder, 2 buffalo burgers (patty only), potatoes, cooked veggies, watermelon with a scoop of Cool Whip. I ate a lot yesterday.

exercise: unfortunately, due to a friend's personal problems, I did not get any exercise in. I will never choose exercise over a friend's needs.

Plan for today: toast with margarine, salad, chicken ceasar salad. water, water, water. After work I want to get a workout in, because otherwise I won't be able to.

I cleaned and cleaned on my day off yesterday. Actually, it wasn't supposed to be a day off, but I took one anyways. I'm supposed to have Monday and Tuesday off of next week, so maybe i'll work on Tuesday to make up for taking yesterday off. We'll see. Anyways, I cleaned the living room, dining room, laundry room and kitchen. My boyfriend cleaned the bathroom, did the dishes and cut the grass, all with a bum knee! We made quick work of the house, and it looks so much better and feels so much more calm than before. I hate messes, but it's so easy to live in them without realizing it.

borntocry on 07/08/2005:
Hi legcramps,

Cleaning is exercise too, you know!

Seriously, in answer to your comment, I'd love to say that I don't have to force myself to exercise and that I just do it for the fun of it, but the truth of the matter is that I'm quite simply the laziest and greediest person ever (and I'm not just being modest - everyone who knows me agrees) and so the answer is yes, I have to force myself every time. But it usually isn't so hard once I actually get going, so I try to just get myself out there by telling myself that even if I stop after two minutes, two minutes of exercise is still better than just lazing around on the couch doing nothing.

Also, I just read yesterday that people who exercise in the morning are something like 40% less likely to put it off. Now I know that the idea of waking up early to exercise sounds like a fate worse than death to us lazy people (at least to me it does), but that's what I had to do in America because that was the only time it was cool enough, and surprisingly I actually did go running almost every day, which is more than I can say for myself over here, where I'm happy if I go every other day.

I'm surprised that you call yourself lazy, though - I always think of you as such an active person. You seem to like sports - why don't you focus more on that? I think a lot of people find the social and/or competitive aspect of sports much more interesting than solitary forms of working out. My husband is almost as lazy as I am, but he loves sports and rarely puts off a basketball game or a tennis match.

So i'm feeling pretty comfortable at this weight, so we'll see where it leads me this time around....

My computer died on me yesterday and I wasn't able to make an entry, so i'll make up for it today.

Monday is a distant memory already, but i'll try to remember how my day went:

food - toast with light margarine, chef's salad, one slice pepperoni pizza. (We were rushed for dinner on Monday night because I had to play two ball games that I didn't know about.)

exercise - keeping true to my word, I played two games of ball and then took the dog for a 45 minute walk. I was then going to hit either the elliptical or the bike, but decided against it in the end. No need to go overboard quite yet.

food: toast with light margarine, coffee with sugar, beef taco salad (oy! that was all the cafeteria had left besides a citrus salad, and I can't stand fruit in a salad!), spanish rice, crabmeat and a jello smoothie.

exercise: Aquasize class - kicked my butt.

Today will be much the same with food as yesterday. My exercise today will be walking the dog, and hitting the elliptical and the bike. Wish me luck!

I almost cried yesterday when I found that my puppy had eaten my very best pair of dressy sandals. I blocked him out of the front entrance today, but he can so easily jump that little baby gate. He knows when i'm pissed off at him, because he just wags his huge tail and looks at me out of the corner of his eye. I guess he's making sure he's ready in case I bolt towards him with the evil eye.....

Soon2BThin on 07/06/2005:
It sounds like you're doing really well. So much exercise! Sorry to hear about your good sandals. BTW, how do you make that jello smoothie? Have a great day!

I didn't weigh this morning, but I think I might be up. Yes, especially after the chicken fingers on Saturday night. Which is actually alright, because i'm at a crossroads at the moment. I was down to 133, and I noticed this too when I was under 130, and I could feel my ribs digging into.....well, my body. That's kind of a disgusting feeling, and one i'm not into feeling everyday. It was hard to get comfortable on the couch, laying down, sitting up, doing basically anything. I think i'd rather have some cushioning there so that I don't have to hear my bones squeak together. So, my new plan is to work soley on my lower body, which was the only thing really bothering me in the first place, and exercise more. That doesn't mean i'll forget about my diet, but i'll work on maintaining instead.

Today: coffee with sugar, chef's salad, water water water. Later on - no idea, but there's lots to cook so i'll figure something out.

Exercise tonight: bike and elliptical.

mummypod on 07/04/2005:

I think it's fantastic that you are listening to your body more. We all need to do that. You have felt uncomfortable at a certain weight and have decided to change your focus a bit. Good for you!

I used to do easily 60-90 minutes of cardio 3 times per week and while of course it helped me lose a bit of weight, I have since found that by doing squats and quad work I have reduced my hips, inner thighs and toosh so much quicker and also that horrible "disease" called cellulite is disappearing like lightening.

As they say, a change is a good as a holiday, maybe you need to try something different *smiles*

Hi legcramps,

Wow! My husband occasionally complains that he can feel his ribs digging into his lungs and I always thought it was just his imagination. But I guess maybe it does happen!

I don't have that particular problem, but I would like to slim down around my hips without becoming completely skeletal above the waist. I also think that exercise, rather than diet, is probably the key (if anything). Hope it works for you!

As I predicted, it rained too much yesterday to play ball. Instead, I went to my boyfriend's sister's graduation. That was my exercise. Whoopee.

I added 1/2 cup of ice cream to my intake yesterday. It was just one of those rainy, nothing-to-do days. I indulged, and now my week's not looking as hot as it was in the beginning.

1pc toasted brown bread with 1 pat lite margarine, jello smoothie, raw veggies with dip, strawberries, rice, grilled fish patty and cooked veggies in sauce.

My neck and shoulders are so sore. I think i've been sleeping incorrectly. Everything hurts today, and i've got Aquasize class tonight to get through. This time i'm not sleeping through it.

Chewy has now 'chewed up' a pair of my good shoes, a pair of my boyfriend's sandals, and a pair of my sandals. He's also been caught munching on my runners and taking the soles out of every shoe in the house. I think it's time to get those shoes upstairs or into a container. Lesson learned.

skinnyjill on 06/30/2005:
I hate how rainy days acn ruin your plans and your mood.

My neck and shoulders hurt today too. I was wondering if I slept on them funny too. I haven't done too much work on them lately. Maybe they are crying out for attention.

Chewy sounds like my BF's labrador Wilbur. He shews EVERYTHING. He's cute and all... but man he is a handful. He's my walking buddy though, so I shouldn't complain!

I hope you and Chewy have a great day!

Umpqua on 06/30/2005:
Hehe - my friend's dog also has a "thing" for chewing shoes and she's lost many a pair. Now she keeps them stored in an enormous tupperware container under her bed. Good luck with Chewy!

borntocry on 07/01/2005:
Hi legcramps,

Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you sympathise! I don't think I'm quite as secure in my thinness to go to an all-you-can-eat buffet on my own just yet - I think I'd feel too much like a greedy glutton just there to pig out! (Which is what I would be, of course, but I'd rather be a bit more subtle about it!)

Well, I hope you get a good night's sleep soon. That can make a world of difference. I always seem to eat more when I haven't been sleeping well.

I think i'm stuck at a standstill or something, but at least i'm not gaining.

Yesterday: 1pc toasted brown bread with one pat lite margarine, cherries, chicken salad (without dressing), one cherry tomato, jello smoothie, grilled salmon patty, a bite of a hot dog (wiener only), spanish rice, cooked veggies. This seems like a good day for me, I don't think it's too much, so if i'm not losing like this then I doubt I should be losing. What was I thinking trying to get below 130?! You know what? I also had a little slice of a cinammin bun. I swear it was forced down my throat. Maybe that's cause for the standstill. I forgot about that.

1pc toasted brown bread with one pat lite margarine, jello smoothie, raw veggies with lite ranch dressing, 1/2 cup spanish rice, 1 cup strawberries, grilled salmon patty (not breaded by the way), more spanish rice and some cooked veggies.

No exercise last night because I slept through Aquasize class, and tonight it's raining so I doubt we'll be playing ball.

So much to do, so little time....
