Hi all, hope everyone had a great weekend. In answer to the questions about the broccoli casserole I made, I found the recipe at allrecipes.com (thanks borntocry!). It's made with rice and a spicy cheesesauce, but I used potatoes instead of rice, and cheeze whiz instead of spicy sauce. I needed to use up the cheese whiz.

Well, this week will be difficult as I haven't gotten groceries in awhile and I know that we need more chicken and more bread. But for the next couple of days it will be potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes. And when they're done i'll be all potatoed out for a good couple of months.

I did well over the weekend, but since we were out all the time it was difficult making good choices. We spent the weekend in the city with BF's two sisters. One of them lives there, but she doesn't have a lot (going to school) and we ate out all the time. I ended up getting nachos with chili and cheese on Friday night because I didn't feel like getting another salad. Saturday I started the day off with a blueberry bagel (only half of one), then a chicken sandwich for supper (with salad, not fries). Sunday was hardest because I drank way too much orange juice and chocolate milk, had a rather large breakfast (with hashbrowns), and purchased a bag of soy chips. All in all, I made better choices than I would have had I not been thinking about losing weight. And i'm doing good so far - checked the scale yesterday evening and I was 130.5. I had the dehydration thing going again yesterday though, so that's why i'm not too excited.

Today's plan: toast and butter, 1c broccoli casserole (the last of it), 2oz pork chops, the rest of the soy chips (about 100 calories), and 1c chocolate milk.

I also got a lot of exercise walking on Saturday. We walked for 5 hours, and most of it was fast-paced because we wanted to make sure we'd get to the next mall before all the stores closed!

BF and I took Chewie to the kennels over the weekend. Very nice place, with lots for him to do and see. He got his walks twice a day, and food and water and toys to play with. When we picked him up he was extremely happy to see us! He'd ripped apart one of his toys (apparently out of boredom), but other than that he was fine. Really excited to see us though. He wouldn't stop running in front of us and constantly jumped up and tried to lick our faces! It was very sweet!

Since you weighed 130.5 at night, I would think that it would be even lower in the morning. It probably will stay down there. The Soy Crisps that you had, are they the Glenny's? I love them. I only like the apple/cin ones, though. It sounds like Chewie had a fun weekend, too.

I know what you mean about the potatoes! And thanks for the comments. I kind of embraced this denial and now I think I can truly get back to at least the portion control. No deprivation--no getting overly hungry.

I did think for an instant how easy it would be to just stop and give up, but just for an instant!

Sounds like you did pretty well with choices under the circumstances--have a great day!

Thanks, we actually have an entire apartment downstairs that we'll be renting out that needs cleaning, painting and a bit of remodeling. I mostly enjoy the work though and it's definitely good to stay busy. I'm really going to watch what I eat this week so hopefully the scale will be kind to me!

To answer your question, I'm a freelance writer and editor and I also do some Web development. I covered high tech at my last full-time job so I'm continuing that via freelance. Not the most exciting work on the planet but it pays well and keeps me writing.

Argh. How terrible. But, i'm happy today anyways. I think it's because I have tomorrow off and i'm looking forward to volleyball tonight. Two hours of fun! It's so great when exercise is something I look forward to!

Yesterday: (wow, you won't believe this) toast and butter, 1.5c lettuce, 2T light ranch dressing, 12 carrots, 2oz grilled chicken and a taste of my broccoli casserole. Did I resist temptation yesterday or what. Let me tell you about it....

As soon as I got home from work yesterday I started cooking. But, since i'd eaten so quickly the day before, I was getting more and more hungry by the minute. So I grilled up some chicken, threw it in a salad and ate that. When my broccoli casserole was finally done, I only had a sampling of it because I knew i'd already eaten quite a bit. Wow, is that casserole ever good! Probably not a good sign, because now that it's there in the fridge I might be sneaking in more food to my daily tallies! Anyhow, of course later on I got hungry again. BF is still sick, and last night he wanted ice cream in the worst way. I told him I would get him some if he wanted, and he said 'no, I don't really need ice cream'. I told him that it would help his throat and make him feel better. What the heck did I just turn into? I needed - NEEDED - him to say that he wanted ice cream so that I could get some too! He said 'whatever, doesn't matter', and off I went. I had to make a couple of other stops, and by the time I was ready to pick up ice cream, i'd talked myself out of it! I TALKED myself out of ICE CREAM! I went home, poured 1.5L of water into a bottle and drank that instead. Whew! One obstacle down, 10 million more to go!

Today: toast and butter, 2oz grilled chicken, 1 cup broccoli casserole, 1c salad.

I drank 2.5L of water last night. Same going for today.

This morning when I let the puppy out, I stood out there with him and waved at all the passerby. I'm just in a good mood.

One waved back.

But i'm still happy anyways. *sticking tongue out at those who didn't wave back*

WOW...you did great on your eating! I'm curious as to what you put in your broccoli caserole. My family just loves broccoli and I make quite a bit of it. In fact, we had some last night. I boil mine, then I sautee some fresh garlic in oil, throw the cooked broccoli in the hot oil, add some garlic salt and it's done. It is simply divine!

Congrats on NOT getting the ice cream and drinking all of that water. The most water I can tolerate in a given day is 1.5 liters. That's a lot by my standards. Do the 3 cups of decafe coffee count towards water consumption - ha?

Glad your doing well and that Chewy is thriving. As far as people not waving back, well, they were probably on their way to work and they really didn't want to go - or maybe they were running late. Who knows?

Have a great FRIDAY (oops...Thursday). I'm off tomorrow too. Enjoy your three day weekend...I will!

Hi LC, I have a different problem with my dog - he's always ahead of me when we walk. More like pulling me down the sidewalk! Mixing things up with the jogging evens things out a bit - and tires him out, which is key.

The ketatoes are an instant low-carb potato substitute made of dried oats, soy and dehydrated potatotes. They're pretty good and take about 5 minutes to make. As for roasting the whole chicken, I can't say that I do anything fancy with it at all. This one was good and juicy and I just added some seasonings before roasting. I also put a couple of pieces of aluminum foil over the pan for most of the cooking - and just take that off for the final half hour. I baste about every half hour and then make a gravy out of the juice (after skimming off the fat) by adding some white wine and seasonings - always delish!

It's amazing how many illnesses dogs and cats can get that people have, too. Casey has a heart murmur, liver disease, and arthritis in his front legs. He has no effects from the heart murmur or the liver disease, but the special food and medication he's on helps to slow down the progression of the liver disease. He's on supplements for the liver and arthritis that help, too. He has a blast no matter what he does. At 14, he still plays with his toys, takes short walks, and keeps the German Shepherds in line. I've had him since he was about 12 weeks old. Cute little old dude! How's Chewie doing? Wait till he sees snow for the first time!

I read your ice cream episode! I can't tell you how many times I manipulated things so that I could get the food I wanted. I could've been a spy or a secret agent for all the ways I could come up to get it! LOL I'm so proud of you for not eating it!!!! That's awesome!

I just read your comment to Runner about buffets and HAD TO tell you, "Thanks!". Ohh, how you've justified my luncheon buffets at the Biltmore. From what you said, this is THE bargain of the century! Not only is the choice of food exquisite, but the very best part is that the only way I can go wrong is by overdoing the bread. I swear, every single choice is an excellent one for anyone on a diet.

about the oatmeal.. I'm not sure how long it keeps.. but the kind I make is in a big tub box type thing..lol. from Aldis.,.tastes just like quaker..lol.. I made a cup..and put splenda in it .. you can use equal or sweet and low.. whatever you like.. for my boys I put brown sugar.. boy is that good and I have to really talk myself into NOT putting it in mine.. waaaa..lol..oh and alittle butter in the boys as well..

dontcha hate rude people? what would it hurt to just give a wave when someone waves your way.. this world is just plan getting rude if you ask me.. Oh well their loss huh hehee..

Good job on the ice-cream. I also often find myself waiting with bated breath on my husband's decision as to whether or not he wants ice-cream. I'm impressed at your self-control!

Thanks for your comment, by the way. I used to go shopping every day after work, which was a real drag and took up so much time, especially when I started (occasionally) going running after work as well. By the time I got home there wouldn't even be time to cook. But then I read one of your entries in which you said that you had planned out all your meals for the next ten days (I'm sure that was you - wasn't it?). Anyway, I was inspired by that entry to start doing the same, and now I try to get all the week's groceries on the weekend. Of course I often forget something but it's usually something small I can just pick up on the way home after work.

I started trying out all these ethnic recipes when I became vegetarian, by the way. That's kind of when I became interesting in cooking, too. Before that my favourite dishes were hamburgers, hot dogs, roasts, spaghetti with meatballs... that sort of thing. But when I became vegetarian I needed more variety. I would like to know how you make your broccoli casserole, though... it does sound delicious!

I think i'll be quite happy to maintain this week after yesterday. I ended with under 1400 calories, but part of that was one of those grab bags of nacho chips. I was starving right after work (no, really, I was) and I ate my leftovers right away. Then, later on I got hungry again (duh) and tried to fend it off, but finally gave in. There was no casserole made last night, BF wasn't feeling good so I made him chicken noodle soup instead. Maybe today. We both went for a walk last night with Chewie, took about an hour and a bit. Not sure how far we went, but it was further than it has been in awhile. Usually we just run him around the block a couple times.

Yesterday: 2pc toast with butter, 1.5c caesar salad, 2oz grilled chicken, 1 bag nachos, 1c herbal tea.

I drank 2.5L water. Wow, am I ever consistent with that, at least.

Today: 2pc toast with butter, 1c broccoli casserole, 1 serving grilled chicken.

I woke up not very hungry but had my toast for breakfast anyways. Now i'm hungry. I might add on an extra cup of salad, a few carrots and light ranch dressing at lunchtime if i'm still this hungry.

I hate the painful process of constantly having to tell myself that i'm really NOT that hungry.

Well i was a bit "mellow" yesterday, i always have this strange depression on Mondays, dunno why, sometimes it gets to me, but oh well thanks for the nice comment. I LOST!! yea im off a bit today so that chocolate must have done some good. Oh yea by th way, and this is the truth, i eat a large helping of nacho chips with salsa and quacomole once a week at a Mexican place or wherever and i still lose weight.....so youre not doing to bad yourself! I love Buckleys...well not the taste but how it works. i actually buy the childrens Cherry flavored one and it tastes good and works just as well in my opinion. You just have to use more of it because it's childrens but other than that it's the same stuff I think....but tastes great. Have you tried drinking a big mug of tea when you're feeling hungry but shouldn't be? I'm doing that right now. After lunch, I was starving and felt like I was going to go out of my mind. I made a huge (22oz) mug of tea and am already feeling much better.

Yes, I second Becca27's suggestion. I've stocked up on loads of herbal tea and when I'm feeling hungry I have a big mug of it. It usually does the trick. It must be pretty cold where you are, too!

Thanks for your comment, by the way. It reminded me of the last time I picked up a packet of sandwiches at a gas station. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the nutritional information. I can't remember exactly what it was but I think it was something like 1800 calories. And there was practically nothing in those sandwiches - feta and grilled vegetables. Can you believe it? I will never buy those packaged sandwiches again. They don't taste anywhere near good enough to be worth it!

Telling myself that I'm not hungry is a painful process for me, too...especially when I'm used to eating three meals a day and two snacks a day. Sometimes I'm just not hungry, but I eat anyway...out of habit. I'm learning how to listen to my body, too. It's painful, but so rewarding when I actually do it!

I'm pleased to announce Becca, that our hallowe'en candy is now almost officially gone. The only things left are a few pieces of gum and some sweet tarts! Seeing as I don't like THAT much sugar, i'll be sticking to the gum. Yesterday I had two pieces. BF took another bundle of the candy to family.

Yesterday: toast and butter, two pieces gum, one small boiled potato, 1.5c caesar salad with 2oz grilled chicken and some chocolate at the movie theatre. Crap. I ended around 1100cals.

Today: toast and butter and leftovers. I'll still have to cook for BF because he doesn't have any leftovers (piggy!). I'm thinking of making broccoli casserole, with chicken breast and cheese whiz. Very high in calories but oh so good and I think I need another high calorie day. It's been awhile, I don't want my metabolism to stop working on me. Yeah. Good excuse.

BF and I had a 'date' night last night. It's been really hard lately with the puppy around to care for. It seems that during the week there's just no time to get anything done, plus we're always out playing sports or one of us is sitting on the couch watching t.v. and doesn't feel like doing anything (me). Then, on the weekends, we both have loads of friends calling to go out so we have no one-on-one time together. It was nice last night. We went out for dinner and had a good chat. I realized that I was missing just talking to him. Then we went to The Exorcist. I was disappointed in the movie. It was so slow-moving! Some parts were good, but overall the pace of the movie really turned me off.

Yesterday I drank 2.5L water, and today I will drink at least that again. I'm having problems drinking anymore than that, but that's 80oz so I think i'm on track. Today I will also do laundry! lol, that's the only thing I can schedule for myself tonight - so that I make sure to do it!

Looks like you did pretty well with all that Hallowe'en candy (love how you put that apostrophe in "Hallowe'en", by the way). I'm so glad Hallowe'en hasn't really caught on here yet so I haven't been faced with any of the usual temptations.

I'm glad to see you had a nice date with your boyfriend. You guys should do that more often! Or maybe you can just take Chewie out for a long walk together!

I hear you on the Halloween candy - luckily the kids took most of the stuff I like (kit kats and pb cups). It's always good to have a date with your SO - we do it pretty regularly. It's much different when you're out and about in public rather than home and on the couch. Congrats on your loss btw!!

I saw 129.5 Sunday morning, but I know for a fact that it was simply an optical illusion. That, and I went out Saturday night and had a few drinks, so dehydration here we come.

I ate very well over the weekend. I'm quite pleased with myself, I didn't go over 1500 calories on any day! Saturdays seem to be the hardest days though. That was my highest, at 1425. Saturday mornings BF and I usually go out for breakfast. This time, I just had toast and coffee and was happy with that.

Hallowe'en was great, I had a lot of fun - I hope you all did too. BF had a few people over to his place, and then we went bar-hopping. A friend of mine went as a schoolgirl and she had one of those huge lollipop things - I know I stole some of that candy during the night, because I was on a sugar high for most of the night! Anyhow, so I didn't get that much sleep that night, but I lazed around on Sunday totally so I think I made up for it. BF's sister stayed at his place on Saturday night instead of driving home, so she spent Sunday with us and we watched movies.

Sunday morning we had a group of trick-or-treaters come, and of course BF hadn't gotten any candy, so we had to turn them away. I went uptown and bought some soon after that, but we only got a few more kids, so now we have a big bowl full of candy! I put half of it in a bag and sent it home with BF's sister, but there's still so much! I'm not usually tempted with hard candy (none of it's chocolate), but if it's staring me in the face I might crumple and give-in. I think i'll put it in the cupboards and just let BF take it from there when he wants some.

Today so far: 1pc toast with 1t butter (the peanut butter's gone!)

Plan for today: I'm craving salad. Salads all day, maybe with chicken.

I know what you mean about that candy bowl staring you in the face. I had to hide my kids candy in the cupboard totally out of sight. But it's still hard just knowing it's there. You are lucky that you crave salad!! I have to literally force myself to eat any type of veggies. :)

I think this is a new low for me! I don't know, but in the last few days i've really been working my butt off to lose weight! I only hope I can keep it off.

Yesterday: I didn't have time to make hamburger helper, so I had a salad instead, and 12 baby carrots. Then I went to the bar after volleyball and had three drinks. Bleh.

Today so far: 1pc toast and 1T peanut butter. I guess the container was not as empty as I thought.

Plan for today: *sigh*, toast and peanut butter, and for dinner.....i'd love to make something, but i'm babysitting tonight and I don't think i'll have the time to cook. See, this is why I never used to cook! I'm always way too busy around dinnertime! But i'm craving bean burgers or burritos or something with beans. Might just be a salad again tonight.

Yesterday I managed to drink 2.5L water! Yay! I did NOT, however, fold my laundry. You knew that was coming, didn't you?! Today I will finish (or try to) BF's costume, and babysit. Tomorrow morning i'm working on a friend's costume, then my own, then cleaning BF's house so that we can have people over to party. Then it will be Sunday and I hope that I won't be pigging out on greasy burgers and milkshakes. Wish me luck.

Are you going to dress Chewie up for halloween? I think doggies are so Cute when they are dressed up. My mother-in-law has a long-haired, miniature, red dachshound that she dresses up just about every year for halloween. She went as a princess, a clown, a ballerina....I think that's it so far....but it's cute.

There are so many yummy QUICK meals you can make with Black Beans. I love beans so I eat a lot of them even though I don't have a lot of time either (I work WAY TOO much!)

I get a can of black beans and a can of corn and mix them together (draining the juice) and put them in a pan (or microwave safe bowl) and heat them up. That doesn't take long at all. Then I just but about 1/2 C on a tortilla with some salsa and it's soooooo good. Not TOO many calories. I think the tortilla is 180 depending on what you get and the salsa is like 25 for a tbsp, I want to say that together the corn and beans are like 100 or 130. I cna't remember. So the whole little wrap/burrito thing is about 300-330 calories.

Just a suggestion. So quick to make.

I'm big on a pot and some canned vegetables all mixed together to make soup. Quick and easy.

Yesterday I had: yet another pc of toast and peanut butter, and a salad for dinner. Boy, was I ever rushed yesterday. After wallyball I had a cup of tea and went to bed.

Today so far: 1pc toast with 1T peanut butter. 1/2 c tea.

Plan for today: haha, more toast and peanut butter (almost done the peanut butter container, thank the lord), and hamburger helper for dinner. It's going to be another rushed day, because I have volleyball tonight for 2 hours.

I finished my 2L of water yesterday, AND I worked on BF's costume (it's almost done - one more night), AND I went for a jog with Chewie. I did not fold my laundry. *sigh*

Today I will finish 2.5L water and fold my laundry for goodness' sake.

Chewie is a very good puppy. He listens all the time; last night we took him to wallyball with us so that everyone could take a look, and he listened to me the whole time, even though there were so many other people around to excite him. When he's in the yard, he listens to me when I call him. I've taught him to sit, shake a paw, lay down, and roll over already. He's a good and obedient dog, without naming the many things and people he chews on.

We don't let him out of our sight when outside - honestly, he's almost always on a chain unless we're walking to the car to go somewhere. We let him loose in parks, where we can keep an eye on him always. Our dog was stolen right from inside BF's house, not from the back or front yard. He is licensed and has a collar with a tag on it, unfortunately only with his name. I need to get an ID tag. We would never intentionally leave Chewie unattended, and we didn't that day either. We were simply asleep. I realize that there were steps that we could've taken to prevent this from happening, and trust me, I will do my best to take those steps from now on - hindsight is always 20/20 though. I feel guilty because I know he is just a little puppy who cannot take care of himself, and I feel guilty because we found him outside in the cold in a container filled with ice and snow, and I feel guilty because we didn't start looking for him until hours after he had been taken (I went home and BF thought I took Chewie with me). I just feel so darn guilty about this whole thing. And yes, I think the next-door-neighbors should be evaluated by a psychiatrist as well!

hello sweetie..dont feel guilty for something you didnt do or have controle over.. I mean geesh you have to sleep right.. no fault of yours at all.. I still cant beleive they got into bf's apt.. let alone took him.. how rude.. and you didnt know that bf thought you took him hun.. only other thing you can do is just tell each other who is taking him.. :O).. he will be ok.. You are doing so well in training him hehe.. I bet he is so cute doing all that.. My Molli does a belly craw ehehe.. kinda like in the army.. and when I say.. wanna snack she is on her hind legs and goes around in circles hehe.. and when I say.. wanna go outside.. while I put my shoes on she is jumping up and tapping my booty..lol.. its too cute.. hehehe..

Hope bf likes the costume your making :O).. I am sure it will be neat.. my little boy is gonna be a vampire this year..lol and my oldest doesnt wanna dress up :O(.. he will be 14 in december..he is growing to fast.. :O(..I remember the last year I went.. I was 16.. but times have changed..lol.. I was still playing barbies at 14/15.. but not now a days :O(.. they all wanna grow up so fast... why I ask..lol.. its just all bills bills and more bills..lol..

oh and that show you were talking about .. is it where then men dress as women..lol. I seen a talk show (Oprah) had soem tof the guys on it..lol.. too funny.. but we dont have cable here.. so I just get the basic channels..are you watching The Biggest Looser on Tuesday nights? love that one.. hehe..tonight I watched surviver.. I think I have a show on just about everynight.. except Fri and Sat..lol.. on Sunday I watch Extreme Makeover Home Addition.. :O) and most of the time I cry..lol..

Weight: 132.0

Yesterday: the usual toast and peanut butter, 1 porkchop, 1c potatoes and carrots, 1 cup caesar salad. I fell asleep around 8pm yesterday, so I didn't get to sneak in anything else! Wow, now that's probably the best way to lose weight - just go to sleep right away! Chances are I would be a total slug during the day though.

Today so far: 1pc toast with 1T peanut butter.

Plan for today: 2 more pcs toast and 2T peanut butter. I'm not sure what i'm having for dinner because we're going to have to leave early today to play wallyball. If I have enough time, i'll grab some lettuce and carrots and make myself a salad or something, otherwise we could be looking at a high(er) calorie day.

I didn't fold my laundry yet. I did cook dinner and work on BF's costume, and I must say that it's going really well so far. Today I want to do that darn laundry and work some more on the costume. Time will be a factor today. Oh, yesterday I only drank 1.5L water, I really wanted to finish 2L. Today I will finish 2L.

I've decided for my hallowe'en costume to just get it spur of the moment. I'm thinking of a go-go girl, and as far as I remember, there are lots of those costumes around, so it shouldn't be a problem. All I really need is a flapper dress and a feather!

I read the saga of losing/finding your pup--glad there was a happy ending and he and you all have bounced back from the ordeal.

I remember when I had my first dog I had as an adult and apparently there were gangs of people going around stealing dogs out of peoples yards to sell them to labs. Now I'm not sure this was true, but it made me a little more vigilant.

Someone would have to tranquilize the dog I have now to get her to go with them.

Thanks for your comment. No, I'm not taking secret tennis lessons! I think I also just manage to "pull out my lucky charms" every now and then, as you put it. I'm still only learning, though.

I just finished reading about what happened to Chewie. I'm so sorry you went through that, but glad that you got him back. When I was ten years old my dog was stolen. He was barely more than a puppy too. I never got him back, even though for many years I never gave up hope. Every time a white dog caught my eye I thought it might be him.

Thanks for your comments! I was reading more about you and Chewie, and you're so lucky to have him back! Believe it or not, we never leave our dogs unattended in the yard. We have a 6' fence and padlocks on our gates. It may sound extreme, but I live near a large city in the midwest, and there is an increase in dog theft. Unfortunately, people don't make pets out of them, it's more for abuse or dog fighting or as bait for their fighting dogs. It can happen in the country or the city. We've seen the results at the vet hospital where I've worked for the past 15 years. Microchipping is one of the best forms of identification, as Becca27 mentioned, too. Unfortunately, there's no radar to tell you where he is, but if he's picked up and taken to a shelter, police station or animal hospital with a scanner, they can trace him back to you. This is also helpful if someone claims your dog as their own.

I always tell our clients to treat your dog or puppy as you would a toddler. They wander into streets unattended, they have minds of their own, they don't come when they're called, they stick everything in their mouths, they can be taken, and they're dependent on us for their safety. Sorry to get on my soapbox. I try not to stray too far from diet-related things, but I thought my suggestions might be helpful.

Chewie, by the way, sounds like an awesome puppy!! :) One of the smartest, most loving dogs I ever had in my life was a Lab mix. You'd think your own dog would be safe from your own neighbors in your own back yard. I think that family next door needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist!

Weight: 132.0

Yesterday: finished off with chicken and salad (and I sneaked in a couple mouthfuls of corn) and then came my usual kicker - ice cream. I had one cup. Still, I finished off the day with 1300 calories. I think.

Today so far: 1pc flax toast with 1T peanut butter.

Plan for today: another piece of toast with peanut butter, salads and chicken, carrots for snack.

No exercise yesterday. Even BF exercised, and I just sat on the couch and watched t.v. Oy-vey.

Today will be better. I'm starting BF's costume for hallowe'en. He's going as a mummy. I'm not sure yet what i'm going to be, hopefully I figure it out soon though. Today I will fold laundry and put it away, cook dinner for BF, work on his costume and do 10 minutes of exercise in the basement. A start is a start is a start, you know?!

Any ideas as to what to be for halloween? A mummy sound great. I hope he has fun with that. I dressed my pumpkin up as a mummy. My BF and I are going to a masquerade charity type thing for Halloween. He's going as a Cowboy. Don't know what I am going to be.
